HERE'S HOW YOU BUILD IT.
BREAK THE POPSICLE
STICK SO IT'S SMALLER
THAN THE DIAMETER OF THE SPOOL.
THEN PUT THE ELASTICS
ON TOP OF THE PENCIL
AND PULL THEM TIGHT.
THREAD THE POPSICLE
STICK THROUGH,
AND FEED IT ALL THROUGH
THE HOLE OF THE SPOOL.
GRAB THE ELASTICS
ON THE OTHER SIDE
AND PULL OUT THE PENCIL,
AND EVERYTHING WILL
BE THREADED PERFECTLY.
THEN STICK ON THE WASHER AND

LEFT OUT FOR ABOUT FIVE DAYS,
SO IT'S ALL DRIED UP AND HARD.
NOW WHEN MODELING CLAY IS NEW,
IT'S ALL WET AND SOFT,
AND WHEN YOU DROP IT, IT
DOESN'T BOUNCE VERY WELL.
I'VE LEFT THIS PIECE OF
MODELING CLAY OUT TO DRY
FOR ABOUT FIVE DAYS.
NOW IT'S ALL DRIED
UP AND OLD AND...
IT BOUNCES.
NEW,
OLD.
SO, SAME THING WITH THE BATTERY.
GOOD BATTERIES WON'T BOUNCE,
AND BAD BATTERIES WILL.
SCIENCE!

Now the logo of the show appears crushing the screen.

At the lab, Phil says HERE'S A FUN CHAIN
REACTION YOU CAN DO
WITH POPSICLE STICKS,
OR CRAFT STICKS,
BECAUSE THESE ONES
ARE A LITTLE BIT WIDER
THAN POPSICLE STICKS.
IT IS BECAUSE THESE
KIND OF STICKS
ARE SLIGHTLY BENDY,
AND WHEN YOU BEND THEM
AND PUT THEM TOGETHER
IN A PATTERN IN A CERTAIN WAY,
YOU CAN KEEP THEM UNDER TENSION,
AND THEN THEY WANT TO SNAP BACK.
AND THEN THEY'LL FLY.
SO HERE'S HOW YOU
MAKE THE PATTERN.

YOU TAKE A POPSICLE
STICK, OR A CRAFT STICK,
AND YOU PUT IT
DOWN ON THE TABLE.
I KNOW, OKAY, IT'S A SLOW START.
THEN YOU TAKE ANOTHER
ONE AND PUT IT ACROSS.
NOW COMES THE SECRET.
THE SECRET IS OVER
AND THEN UNDER.
YOU WANT TO PUT IT OVER ONE,
AND THEN UNDER ANOTHER,
LIKE THAT.
AND THEN THIS ONE,
OVER, UNDER.
PUT IT OVER THE ONE THAT
LOOKS LIKE IT'S THE TOP STICK,
AND UNDER THE STICK THAT LOOKS
LIKE IT'S THE BOTTOM STICK.
AND THEN IT STARTS
TO HOLD TENSION.
IT STARTS TO HOLD
THE POTENTIAL ENERGY.
CONTINUE THIS PATTERN.
EACH STICK GOES OVER AND UNDER
THE TWO STICKS AT THE END.

AND THAT'S HOW YOU GET
THE CHAIN REACTION.
THEY ALL START FLYING UP.
SO YOU HAVE TO BUILD IT

OF THAT LAST STICK.

TO KEEP A HAND ON IT,
OR ELSE YOU'LL HAVE

FUN, AND YOU CAN
TOTALLY DO IT AT HOME.
NOW, LET'S MAX IT OUT.

He now stands inside a large triangle with 3 laps of intertwined sticks.

Phil says BEHOLD, ALMOST 800 CRAFT STICKS
IN A LONG, NICELY
DESIGNED TRIANGLE.
READY?
TWO, ONE.

He releases the first stick and it triggers a chain reaction.

(music plays)

He says YEAH!
CRAFT STICK CHAIN REACTION!
I'M GONNA GO GET SOMETHING
TO CLEAN ALL THIS UP.

Now back in the parking lot, Phil says ANTHONY AND I HAVE BUILT
A GIANT SPOOL RACER
AND TAKEN IT OUTSIDE
TO TRY IT OUT.
IN ORDER TO WIND IT UP,
WE FLIPPED OVER THE LAST
VERSION ON ITS SIDE.
BUT THIS SPOOL
WEIGHS 200 KILOGRAMS.
EASY TO ROLL, ALMOST
IMPOSSIBLE TO FLIP OVER.

They grunt as they try to flip the giant stool over.

Phil says COME ON!

Anthony says GET IT!

Phil says I DON'T THINK IT'S GONNA WORK.
IT'S TOO HEAVY TO MOVE.

Anthony says YEAH.

Phil says WE SHOULD'VE THOUGHT
OF THAT BEFORE.

Anthony says WELL I'M SURE WE'LL
THINK OF SOMETHING.

Phil says SO ANTHONY
AND I THOUGHT ABOUT IT,
AND THOUGHT ABOUT IT.
AND THOUGHT ABOUT IT.

Phil says I GOT IT!

(ta-da music plays)

Phil says WHAT?
AND THE ANSWER FINALLY DAWNED.
WHAT IF WE ROLL IT THIS WAY?
BECAUSE THEN THAT WOULD
WIND IT UP, RIGHT?

Anthony says THAT'S BRILLIANT!

Phil says BY ROLLING
IT BACKWARDS,
WE WIND UP THE BUNGEE
CORD IN ONE DIRECTION,
WHICH WILL MAKE IT WANT TO
UNWIND IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.
ANTHONY AND I ROLL IT
ACROSS THE PARKING LOT
TO GET IT WOUND UP TIGHT.

Anthony says I DON'T
THINK IT'LL HOLD ANYMORE.

Phil puts a stop under the spool and says OKAY, OKAY.
LET GO.

Anthony lets go of the lumber.

Phil says OKAY, IT'S WEDGED.

Anthony says IT WORKED!

Phil says ALRIGHT, ONE MORE THING.
GOTTA HOOK THE TRIKE
UP TO THIS ONE AS WELL.

Anthony says OKAY.

Phil says OKAY.
SO RIGHT NOW, IT'S ALL WOUND UP,
AND WHEN IT GETS MOVING,
THAT POTENTIAL
ENERGY IN THE COIL
WILL TURN INTO KINETIC ENERGY.

Anthony says EXACTLY.

Phil says NOW JUST IN
CASE YOU'RE TEMPTED
TO TRY THIS AT HOME,
I NEED TO TELL YOU
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
WE'RE TRAINED
PROFESSIONALS, RIGHT?

Anthony says UH, YES!

Phil says YES!
WELL, AS MUCH AS ANYBODY
CAN BE TRAINED FOR THIS,
BECAUSE NO ONE REALLY DOES THIS.

Anthony says ARE YOU READY?

Phil stands on the trike and says READY!

Anthony says OKAY, HERE WE GO!

Anthony takes the stop off and laughs.

Phil says IT'S WORKING!

Phil says SURE ENOUGH,
ALL THE POTENTIAL ENERGY
WE STORED IN THE BUNGEE
CORD STARTS TO UNWIND,
WHICH ROLLS THE SPOOL AND
PULLS ME ALONG BEHIND IT.
WHAT'S MORE, THAT
BIG HEAVY SPOOL
HAS A LOT OF MOMENTUM.
YEAH!
SO WHEN IT GETS GOING FAST,
IT JUST WANTS TO KEEP MOVING.
IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE
I HAD TO JUMP OFF.
UH OH.

Phil jumps off the trike and the stoop keeps rolling till it crashes against a pile of pallets.

Anthony jumps up and down and says THAT WAS AWESOME!
THAT WAS SO COOL!

They high-five.

Anthony says THAT WAS AMAZING!

Phil says ALRIGHT, THAT WAS A
LOT OF KINETIC ENERGY.

Now the end credits roll as gag reels from the show play.

He drops the ball and says WE ARE GOING TO
LEARN HOW TO JUGGLE.

He now appears with dominoes over his ears and says I CAN'T HEAR YOU.
I'VE GOT DOMINOES IN MY EARS.

At the warehouse, he says AND YOU PUT IT IN, WHOA.
AND NOW IT'S ALL BROKEN!

He holds the bowl of batteries and says WELL HERE'S A TRICK...

He stutters and says HERE'S A TRICK!
IT'S ME DISAPPEARING.

Sals holds the broken traffic control and says HA HA, YOU SEE?

Anthony says BLOOPER REEL?

Phil says BLOOPER REEL.

Anthony says OKAY. HI
