An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He’s in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show’s logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

The episode starts with Eric standing in a workroom, he spins on a chair.

Eric says DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN
DRAW A PERFECT CIRCLE BY
BECOMING A HUMAN COMPASS.
IT'S A PRETTY GOOD TRICK.
NO FANCY EQUIPMENT NEEDED.
COME ON, LET'S MAKE THE
CIRCLE HAPPEN.
BUT FIRST...

He makes a small trick where by tapping his first empty hand he gets to pull out a little object.

He says NICE.

(music plays)

Using a chalk, he draws a circle on a blackboard.

He says OH.
YOU MIGHT THINK IT'S EASY TO
DRAW A CIRCLE, BUT IF YOUR
LINES DON'T LINE UP JUST
RIGHT, YOUR CIRCLE WON'T BE
PERFECT, GEOMETRICALLY
SPEAKING, OF COURSE.
YOU SEE, PERFECT CIRCLES
WHERE ALL THE POINTS ARE
THE SAME DISTANCE FROM THE
CENTRE TAKE PRACTICE, AND
SOMETIMES SPECIAL
EQUIPMENT.
A COMPASS LIKE THIS ONE, OR
A STRING, OR MAYBE EVEN A
LID TO TRACE.
ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU DON'T
NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT IF
YOU BECOME A HUMAN COMPASS!
HERE GOES.

(music plays)

Eric appears standing on a black surface holding a large stick. He tries to draw a circle with it by rotating. He fails. Next, he tries grabbing chalk with both legs sticked together and rotating, but he fails again. Next. he keeps on trying but can’t seem to draw the desired circle. He looks frustrated.

He says ER, STAND BY,
THAT'S NOT RIGHT.
ER, TECHNICAL
DIFFICULTIES OVER HERE.
MAYBE I READ THOSE HUMAN
COMPASS INSTRUCTIONS WRONG.
YEAH.

(music plays)

Eric is back in the workroom. He holds a small device and says GOT IT.
OKAY, SO HERE'S HOW YOU CAN
REALLY BECOME A HUMAN COMPASS.
HOLD THE PENCIL OR
MARKER LIKE THIS.

Eric makes a mark in the center of a paper sheet. Next, he puts his hand still and rotates the paper around keeping it centered with the tip of the pen. As he draws, the screen blinks on the base of his hand.

Eric continues
NEXT, PUT YOUR PINKY ON THE
PAPER WHERE YOU WANT THE
CENTRE OF THE CIRCLE TO BE.
I PUT A DOT THERE
TO MAKE IT EASIER.
NOW, KEEP YOUR FINGER
VERY, VERY STILL.
WITH YOUR FREE HAND, SPIN
THE PAPER SLOWLY ALL
THE WAY AROUND.
THIS PART CAN TAKE SOME
PRACTICE AND FINESSE.
YOU HAVE TO PRESS HARD
ENOUGH TO DRAW THE CIRCLE
WHILE LETTING THE PAPER SPIN
SMOOTHLY UNDER YOUR FINGER.
LIKE THAT.
BUT ONCE YOU GET IT,
IT WORKS GREAT.
I CAN EVEN TRACE OVER MY
CIRCLE USING THIS COMPASS.

He checks the precision of it using a compass. Next he draws a new intersecting circle next to the previous one.

Eric says YUP, IT WORKS BECAUSE MY
FINGER ACTED AS THE PIVOT
POINT, AND THE PENCIL STAYED
AT A FIXED DISTANCE ON THE
CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE CIRCLE
AS THE PAPER MOVED BENEATH IT.
PRETTY SPECTACULAR,
IF I SAY SO MYSELF.
music plays)

Eric draws a circle and colours it inside. He taps on it and a new clip plays. An animated clip shows a cartoon version of eric dressed as a constructor. The clip features the cover of a sewer being rounded followed by another one, squared. The last one falls.

He says CHECK THIS OUT.
DO YOU KNOW WHY MANY MANHOLE
COVERS ARE CIRCULAR?
CIRCLES ARE THE ONLY
SHAPE THAT CAN'T FALL
THROUGH THE CIRCULAR
OPENING ONTO SOMEONE
WORKING BELOW.
A SQUARE COVER COULD FALL
THROUGH IF IT WAS TURNED
DIAGONALLY, AND THOSE
METAL COVERINGS ARE HEAVY.
GOOD THING SOMEONE PLANNED
AHEAD BECAUSE THOSE COVERS
ARE EVERYWHERE.

Eric appears back in the workroom.

He says KEEP PRACTISING THE CIRCLE
TRICK AT HOME AND WITH
YOUR FRIENDS.
ALL YOU NEED IS PAPER, A
PENCIL, AND YOUR PINKY.
DRAWING PERFECTLY PRECISE
CIRCLES, IT'S NOT MAGIC,
IT'S MATH.

A big explosion brings the show’s logo back on the screen.
