Sunny's Quest
Jobim
Jobim is an 11-year-old boy who lives in a beautiful forest setting with his family in Cookstown, Ontario. He is Canadian, Ghanian, Sierra Leonean, and St. Vincentian and loves how multi-cultural his family is! Jobim loves listening to his Dad tell imaginary stories of how he and his brothers are great warriors, like the Ashanti Kings of Ghana! Storytelling has been passed down from generation to generation in Jobim's family; his Mom teaches Jobim about his ancestors from Ghana using their ancestor picture wall at home! Cool, right?! He takes us on a tour of his bedroom where we get to see his cool medals from Capoeira competitions, his books, and his adorable pet reptile, Goku! We join Jobim in his Capoeira class, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, that combines dance, acrobatics, and music! Jobim and his friends demonstrate their favourite techniques to the lively sound of the berimbau, commonly used in Capoeira. Jobim then takes us on a hike through the woods with his family to look for wild mushrooms, but be careful, some mushrooms are poisonous! After all that hiking, it's time for some cooking lessons with Jobim! He's cooking Afro-influenced seafood paella and we get to see his awesome chopping skills and his incredible passion for food! The day couldn't end any better than receiving an inspirational message from one of his role models! Bon appetit!
