Lars

Lars is a 10-year-old boy from Halifax, Nova Scotia. His family comes from Zimbabwe and the Netherlands, and he is a superstar hockey player and surfer! Lars teaches us about the Zimbabwe flag and gets a mini-lesson from his Mom on how to speak Shona, a native Zimbabwean language! Then he's off to hockey practice with his team, the Chebucto Atlantics, and Coach Daryl! He works hard on the ice learning new drills and improving his skills in hopes of one day playing for the National Hockey League! Playing hockey has left him with a big appetite! Lars and his mom prepare Sadza, a full Zimbabwean meal, that they eat with their hands. Delicious! Lars then gives us a tour of his bedroom, showing us his favorite hockey jerseys, hockey medals, and demonstrating his skills on the traditional musical instrument: the Kalimba. Now it's family time with board games! Tsoro yematatu is a traditional game played in Zimbabwe and things get competitive between Lars and his brother! Lars is going to jump for joy at his special message from an inspirational figure.
