Duane stands in a colourful TV studio. A red screen behind him reads "Help Zone." He is in his mid-twenties, clean-shaven with short black hair. He wears a blue T-shirt.

Holding a green folder that reads "Crying," Duane says HEY, TVO KIDS,
COUNSELLOR DUANE
FROM KIDS HELP PHONE
WITH AN e-mail FROM
OUR FRIEND DAVE
WHO LIVES IN OTTAWA
AND ASKS ABOUT CRYING.
HE WRITES:

Duane reads I GET TEASED AND
CALLED A CRY BABY.
WHAT CAN I
DO ABOUT IT?

He continues FIRST OF ALL, DAVE,
I'M REALLY SORRY
THAT ANYBODY WOULD TEASE
YOU AND CALL YOU NAMES.
THOSE ARE FORMS OF
VERBAL BULLYING,
AND IT'S CERTAINLY
NOT OKAY.
NOW SOMETIMES TO
ADDRESS BULLYING
IT MIGHT BE HELPFUL
TO SPEAK TO ADULTS
THAT WE CAN TRUST.
SO IF YOU FEEL LIKE
THERE'S SOMEONE AT SCHOOL
THAT YOU CAN TALK TO, IF
THIS IS HAPPENING AT SCHOOL,
I WOULD ENCOURAGE
YOU TO DO THAT.
IF THIS IS HAPPENING
CLOSER TO HOME,
MAYBE SPEAKING TO A
PARENT OR A GUARDIAN
MIGHT BE A HELPFUL
WAY TO ADDRESS IT.
LET'S START OFF
BY SAYING THERE IS
NOTHING WRONG
WITH CRYING.
IT IS A VERY HEALTHY
WAY OF EXPRESSING EMOTION.
JUST AS IT'S OKAY FOR
US TO LAUGH AT SOMETHING
FUNNY, SO TOO IS IT
OKAY TO CRY IF WE'RE SAD
OR EVEN FRUSTRATED.
NOW SOMETHING ELSE
TO KEEP IN MIND, DAVE,
IS THAT IF YOU FEEL
LIKE YOU'RE CRYING
ABOUT SOMETHING AND
IT'S AFFECTING YOU,
IT MIGHT BE A HELPFUL
IDEA FOR YOU TO REACH OUT
AND SPEAK TO AN ADULT,
LIKE A COUNSELLOR AT
KIDS HELP PHONE IF YOU WANT.
OR IF YOU FELT LIKE
THERE WAS AN ADULT
AT HOME THAT YOU
COULD TALK TO,
I WOULD ENCOURAGE
YOU TO DO THAT.

He smiles and concludes I HOPE THAT YOU
FIND THIS HELPFUL.
