A narrator says,
A FESTIVAL IN A MAJOR KEY.
Jambo strings up a line of bunting inn Soundland. He is a large, blue, lump-like creature wearing a white bow tie and a blue fedora.
(Meowing)
Doobeedoo, the black cat, leaps up at the blue, yellow, and red bunting.
Jambo asks,
HOW DOES IT LOOK?
DO YOU THINK THEY'RE ABOUT THE
RIGHT HEIGHT?
Ta-Da jumps out of its fishbowl, flies over Jambo’s head, and lands in another fishbowl.
Meanwhile, Jasmine carries a xylophone over to Jambo.
She says,
HEY!
LISTEN TO THIS!
Jambo replies,
HEY, JASMINE!
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE
DECORATIONS?
Jasmine says,
OH, NICE COLOURS!
VERY CHEERFUL!
Jambo replies,
OH, THE OCCASION CALLS FOR
NOTHING LESS!
IT AIN'T A MINOR FESTIVAL.
Jasmine says,
NO!
IT'S A MAJOR FESTIVAL, AND
THAT'S WHY I'VE WRITTEN A SONG.
Jambo says,
GOOD IDEA!
A SONG FOR A MAJOR FESTIVAL!
Jasmine looks disappointed.
She says,
BUT IT STILL DOESN'T HAVE ANY
LYRICS.
WHY DON'T I PLAY IT, AND YOU
TELL ME WHICH LYRICS COULD FIT?
OOH!
I'M SO NERVOUS!
(Laughing)
Jasmine adds, I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!
(Playing beautiful, sad melody)
Jambo, Doodoowah, Doobeedoo, Ta-Da, and the Lalalas do not move while they watch Jasmine play.
(All sobbing)
Tears fill everyone’s eyes.
(Sobbing)
Jasmine looks shocked.
She asks,
BUT GUYS, WHY ARE YOU CRYING?
(All sobbing)
The sun begins to cry. Soundland floods.
Jasmine asks,
YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT, DID YOU?
Jambo answers,
YES, WE DID!
IT'S FABULOUS!
(Blowing nose)
(Sobbing loudly)
Jasmine replies,
BUT YOU'RE ALL CRYING!
Jambo says,
NO, JASMINE!
WE LOVED IT!
IT'S A WONDERFUL SONG.
ISN'T THAT RIGHT?
(Sobbing)
Doodoowah, Doobeedoo, and the Lalalas cry on a boat that floats on a river of tears.
Jambo adds,
A REALLY GOOD SONG IS ONE THAT
CAN MAKE THE LISTENER FEEL
SOMETHING, AND YOUR SONG REALLY
MOVED US.
Jasmine replies,
BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE YOU
FEEL SAD!
Jambo says,
WELL, IN THAT CASE, WHAT YOU
OUGHT TO HAVE DONE IS TO PLAY A
HAPPY SONG INSTEAD!
Jasmine replies,
BUT I DON'T WANT TO PLAY A
DIFFERENT SONG!
I WANT TO PLAY MY OWN SONG!
(Grumbling)
Jasmine looks upset. She runs away from Jambo, Doodoowah, Doobeedoo, and the Lalalas. Jambo shrugs.
Later, Jasmine tosses musical notes into a tree while she sits under a shady tree. Jambo walks over to her.
He says,
THERE'S NO NEED TO BE SAD,
JASMINE!
YOU KNOW, THAT SONG YOU'VE
WRITTEN IS JUST BEAUTIFUL!
Jasmine replies,
IT'S NOT TRUE!
YOU WERE ALL CHEERFUL AND
HAPPY, AND NOW EVERYBODY'S
MISERABLE.
(Gasping)
Jasmine lies down.
She adds, AND SO AM I!
Jambo says,
WELL, WE'LL ALL HAVE TO CHEER
OURSELVES UP.
IT'S TIME FOR A PARTY!
COME ON!
HAH!
HA-HA!
Jasmine tosses another note into the water while Jambo turns into an elephant. He pokes Jasmine.
Jasmine responds, HMM.
(Horn honking)
Jambo turns into a dancing ladybug. He hops up and down.
(Chuckling)
Jambo dances with fruit on his head. Jasmine ignores him and tosses another note into the water. Jambo takes off the fruit and eats a pineapple.
Doodoowah walks over to Jasmine and Jambo. It drinks water from the lake.
Jambo says,
DOODOOWAH, COME BACK.
DOOBEEDOO'S CALLING FOR YOU!
Doodoowah turns around and walks past Jasmine and Jambo. It changes colours.
(Laughing)
(Echoing laughing)
Jasmine copies Jambo’s laugh.
(Laughing)
(Echoing laughing)
(Laughing)
Jambo turns to Doodoowah.
He says,
OF COURSE!
YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE EVERY
LITTLE THING IF YOU WANT TO
CHANGE THE MOOD.
YOU JUST HAVE TO CHANGE
COLOUR - LIKE DOODOOWAH!
Doodoowah looks upset. Jambo turns into a rocket ship and speeds back to Soundland.
(Sad notes sounding)
Later, Jambo plays the xylophone.
He says, HMM...
(Sad notes sounding)
Jambo plays the xylophone keys in a different order.
He says,
IT'S THIS ONE!
THIS ONE HERE IS THE ONLY NOTE
THAT NEEDS CHANGING!
LET'S SEE.
(Notes sounding)
Jambo plays notes one at a time.
He adds,
AN A, AN F SHARP.
HERE!
E-NATURAL!
GOODBYE, E FLAT!
(Chuckling)
HELLO, E-NATURAL!
IT'S ALL YOURS, JASMINE!
PLAY!
(Happy notes sounding)
Jasmine plays the xylophone.
She says,
OH!
IT SOUNDS DIFFERENT!
Jambo replies,
YOU WERE RIGHT, JASMINE.
YOU DO HAVE TO PLAY YOUR OWN
SONG, AND IF YOU WANT IT TO
SOUND HAPPY, YOU JUST NEED TO
CHANGE ITS TONALITY, ITS COLOUR.
JUST BY CHANGING A SINGLE
NOTE, WE STOP IT FROM SOUNDING
SAD!
(Ascending notes sounding)
Jasmine plays the xylophone.
(Happy notes sounding)
Jambo, Doodoowah, Doobeedoo, and the Lalalas smile while they watch Jasmine play.
(Sighing contentedly)
The sun smiles in the sky.
(Meowing)
Ta-Da flies into another fishbowl.
Jasmine looks at her baton.
She says,
IT'S LIKE MAGIC!
WE CHANGED ONE NOTE, THEY'VE
STOPPED CRYING, AND NOW THEY'RE
LAUGHING!
Jambo replies,
YOU SEE, SOMETIMES, THE
TINIEST LITTLE DETAIL CAN MAKE
US FEEL SAD OR IT CAN LIVEN UP
OUR DAY!
Jasmine says,
AND NOW, I'VE GOT A TITLE FOR
MY SONG - "A FESTIVAL IN A MAJOR
KEY!"
LET'S SEE WHAT YOU THINK!
Everyone cheers.
Later, curtains open to Jambo frowning on a stage.
He sings,
FROM THE FALLING LEAVES
TO WINTER SQUALLS.
Jasmine sings,
FROM THE SPRINGTIME BLOSSOM
TO THE FALL.
Jambo sings,
JUST AS DARKNESS TURNS THE
DAY TO NIGHT
Jambo and Jasmine sing,
THE MORNING SUN
SHOWS COLOURS BRIGHT
Jasmine sings,
WHEN THE RAIN POURS DOWN
UPON YOUR HEAD
Jambo turns into a red umbrella and protects Jasmine from falling water.
He sings,
HOLD UP YOUR UMBRELLA
BOLD AND RED
Jasmine sings,
YOU CAN CHANGE THE WAY
THE MUSIC SOUNDS
TO TURN WHAT YOU'RE FEELING
RIGHT AROUND
Jambo sings,
WHEN YOU HEAR A MAJOR CHORD
Jasmine sings,
IT'S LIKE A SMILE THAT
SPREADS ACROSS THE WORLD
Jambo sings,
BUT WHEN YOU TURN BACK
TO A MINOR KEY
Jasmine sings,
THERE'S SADNESS IN
EVERYTHING YOU SEE
Jasmine, Jambo, Doodoowah, Doobeedoo, and the Lalalas dance under the smiling sun.
Jambo sings,
WHEN YOU TURN BACK
TO A MINOR KEY
Jasmine and Jambo sing,
THERE'S SADNESS IN
EVERYTHING YOU SEE
