(Music playing)
(Thumping)
Jasmine stands on a colourful pedestal and hits a drum with a violin bow.
(Thumping)
Jasmine says, HMM?
(Brushing)
Jambo leans closer to Jasmine, while brushing his teeth with a broom
Jasmine says, OH! WHAT ARE YOU DOING BRUSHING YOUR TEETH WITH A GREAT BIG BROOM?
(Giggling)
Jambo asks, WHAT ABOUT YOU? WHY ARE YOU PLAYING THE DRUM WITH A VIOLIN BOW?
Jasmine says, HUH, I JUST FOUND THE TWO OF THEM TOGETHER, IT SOUNDS SO FUNNY.
(Giggling)
Jambo says, DRUMS SHOULD BE PLAYED WITH DRUMSTICKS!
Jasmine says, I KNOW, JAMBO.
Jambo reaches into his small black hat and takes out a pair of black drumsticks.
Jambo says, OH, IF MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER WERE HERE TO SEE YOU PLAYING THE DRUMS WITH HER VIOLIN BOW.
Jasmine says, AH! SO, THIS MUST BE REALLY OLD!
Jambo says, IT'S AS OLD AS HER VIOLIN. YOU'RE DYING TO HEAR IT, AREN'T YOU?
(Giggling)
Jasmine says, YES!
(Both laughing)
Notes singing, LA-LA-LA!
A black cat chases black musical notes.
(Meowing)
Jasmine follows Jambo to a tree with instruments hanging from its branches.
Jambo says, I KEEP IT SAFELY STORED RIGHT HERE, HANGING FROM THE BOWED STRING INSTRUMENT TREE.
Jambo plucks a trumpet from the tree and tries to play it with the violin bow.
(Scratching)
(Groaning)
Jambo says, BAGPIPES! WHAT'S A TRUMPET DOING WHERE THE VIOLINS ARE KEPT?
Jasmine shrugs.
Jambo asks, AND WHAT'S AN ACCORDION DOING WHERE THE TRUMPETS ARE SUPPOSED TO GO?
Jambo points to a clothesline with trumpets hanging from it. A single accordion is among them.
(Accordion playing a note)
Jambo shouts, AND WHAT'S A TUBA DOING IN THE ACCORDION GARDEN? ALL THE INSTRUMENTS ARE MIXED UP AND IN THE WRONG PLACE!
(Jasmine whimpering)
(Clunking music)
The notes hop past a bush growing musical instruments. The cat stops and looks at it.
(Cat meowing)
Jambo reaches for the accordion on the clothesline.
Jambo says, HMM.
(Meowing)
The cat jumps over to Jambo.
Jambo says, I CAN'T PLAY RIGHT NOW, DOOBY DOO. I HAVE TO TIDY THIS PLACE UP. WHAT'S ALL THIS DOING IN THE WIND INSTRUMENTS GARDEN? THE HARP IS A STRING INSTRUMENT! BUT THE KETTLE DRUM IS PERCUSSION! AND THE SYNTHESIZER IS ELECTRONIC!
(Grunting)
Jasmine carries the harp and synthesizer.
(Meowing)
Jasmine says, I CAN'T PLAY RIGHT NOW, DOOBY DOO. WE HAVE TO TIDY ALL THIS UP. AND THEN FIND THE VIOLIN THAT BELONGED TO JAMBO'S GREAT GRANDMA!
(Meowing)
Dooby Doo jumps on Jasmine’s head and grabs a thread from the blue cloth wrapped around her hair. Dooby Doo runs off, pulling on the thread. The cloth comes off and Jasmine’s curly red hair bursts free.
Jasmine cries, OH! DOOBY DOO, COME BACK HERE!
(Meowing)
Jasmine chases Dooby Doo to the bush.
Jasmine says, HMPH.
She jumps in the bush after the cat. Jasmine stands up and wraps the cloth around her hair.
(Gasping)
Jasmine cries, THE VIOLIN! YOU FOUND IT!
Jasmine pulls a violin out of the bush. Dooby Doo jumps up and down.
(Meowing)
(Tambourine rattling)
Jambo taps a tambourine on his head.
Jambo says, PERCUSSION.
Jasmine calls, JAMBO! LOOK WHAT WE FOUND!
Jambo says, JUST A MINUTE, JASMINE.
Jambo examines a harmonica.
(Harmonica playing)
Jambo says, I'M TOO BUSY TO HELP YOU RIGHT NOW.
Jasmine says, BUT DOOBY DOO--
Jambo cries, IF YOU KEEP DISTRACTING ME, I CAN'T KEEP TRACK OF MY THOUGHTS! SHARPS IN FLAT! WHAT'S THAT OVER THERE? A UKELELE?
Jambo turns into a rocket and takes off.
(Jazz music playing)
Jasmine holds the violin while Dooby Doo watches.
Jasmine says, SHH.
She plucks at the violin.
(String plucking, snapping)
Strings snap on the violin. Dooby Doo jumps in the air.
(Snapping)
(Yowling)
Jambo cries, THIS PLACE IS IN COMPLETE CHAOS.
(Soft music playing)
Dooby Doo pulls at a shoelace on Jasmine’s shoe.
Jasmine says, UH... DOOBY DOO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
(Gasping)
Jasmine says, OF COURSE! WHAT A GREAT IDEA, DOOBY DOO.
(Meowing)
The shoelace is put on the violin.
Jasmine says, THAT'S ONE FIXED. NOW WE JUST NEED THREE MORE STRINGS. AH-HAH, CAT HAIR!
Jasmine pulls at a hair on Dooby Doo’s head.
(Yowling)
(Grunting)
Jasmine says, THANKS, DOOBY DOO!
(Violin plucking)
A second string is added to the violin.
Jasmine says, NOW WE ONLY NEED TWO MORE.
Jasmine and Dooby Doo run off.
(Meowing, humming)
Dooby Doo jumps on the clothesline.
(Meowing)
Jasmine says, HUH? THE CLOTHESLINE!
(Violin twanging)
Another string is added to the violin.
Jasmine and Dooby Doo jump up and down.
(Meowing, humming)
(Electric guitar note warbling)
Jasmine says, AH!
Dooby Doo nods.
(Meowing)
Jasmine and Dooby Doo run to a guitar growing out of the ground.
(Meowing, humming)
(Note warbling)
Jasmine says, A GUITAR STRING?! NOW WE'VE GOT THEM ALL!
The string is added to the violin.
(Violin string twanging)
(Musical flourish)
(Piano music playing)
Jambo says, NOW, THAT'S LOOKING A LOT BETTER, BUT WE WON'T BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO THAT VIOLIN, JASMINE. IT HASN'T SHOWN UP ANYWHERE.
Jasmine says, WELL, I THINK YOU'LL FIND IT HAS.
Jambo says, YOU FOUND IT? WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR WHAT A WONDERFUL, DELICATE SOUND IT HAS.
(Giggling)
Jambo draws a bow across the violin strings. Flowers wilt.
(Discordant screeching)
Jambo cries, TROMBONES! WHAT'S THAT?
Jasmine says, A SYMPHONY OF PLUCKED CAT HAIR, AND A LENGTH OF CLOTHESLINE. SOUNDS FUNNY, DOESN'T IT?
(Giggling)
Jambo says, SURE, IT'S JUST ABOUT AS FUNNY AS TRYING TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH WITH A BROOM.
Jasmine says, IT'S JUST THAT THE STRINGS BROKE THE MINUTE I TOUCHED THEM.
Jambo says, YOU DID THE RIGHT THING REPLACING THEM, THEY WERE WORN OUT. BUT A VIOLIN HAS TO BE STRUNG WITH VIOLIN STRINGS.
Jambo takes strings out of his hat.
Jambo says, THAT'S A DOUBLE BASS STRING. THAT ONE'S FOR A UKELELE. THAT ONE'S A JUMP ROPE. HERE WE ARE.
(Music playing)
Jambo singing, SO MANY INSTRUMENTS HAVE STRINGS BUT HERE'S THE FUNNY THING, YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW WHICH STRING THEY'RE STRUNG WITH.
Jasmine plays a harp, then a sitar.
Jambo singing, SO MANY GAMES ARE PLAYED WITH BALLS BUT YOU CAN'T PLAY AT ALL UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT BALL THEY'RE PLAYED WITH YOU COULDN'T USE A BASKETBALL FOR TENNIS OR PING PONG. TRYING TO USE A SOCCER BALL FOR GOLF WOULD BE JUST WRONG. EVERY OBJECT HAS A NAME, EACH END HAS A BEGINNING, EVERY INSTRUMENT, A STRING TO STRING IT.
Jasmine and Dooby Doo hop over a cream-coloured background with the musical notes and fish following them.
(Violin music playing)
Jambo mimes playing a tennis racket like a violin.
(Music playing)
Jambo singing, USE A RACKET TO FRY AN EGG, YOU'LL FIND THERE IS A CATCH. TENNIS WITH A FRYING PAN, YOU'LL NEVER WIN THE MATCH. EVERY OBJECT HAS A NAME, EACH END HAS A BEGINNING, EVERY INSTRUMENT, A STRING TO STRING IT.
The sun smiles in the sky.
The sun says, HMM.
(Violin playing)
Jambo plays the violin.
Jambo says, HERE YOU GO.
Jasmine asks, CAN I HAVE A GO?
Jambo says, THERE, ALL YOURS.
Jasmine plays the violin.
(Violin screeching)
(Jambo groaning)
A string breaks.
Jasmine says, HUH?
(Music playing)
