A narrator says, NEVER FAIL BEDTIME FABLE.

The La-La-La’s, small birdlike musical notes, hop up and down on clouds.

Singing, La-la-la, la-la-la

Jambo wears a nightcap.

Jambo shouts, QUIET! I WANT TO SLEEP! I WANT TO SLEEP!

(Chanting, singing off-key)

Jambo plays a French horn.

(Horn blaring)

La-La-La’s singing, La-la-la.

Jasmine and the cat, Dooby Doo, walk over, looking tired.

(Jasmine yawning)

(Sighing)

(Singing grows louder)

Jasmine asks, DID YOU JUST HEAR AN ELEPHANT?

Jambo says in a scratchy voice, AN ELEPHANT? THE ONLY THING I CAN HEAR ARE THE LA-LA-LA'S, WHO WON'T LET ME GET TO SLEEP.

Jasmine says, OH, YOU SOUND SO HOARSE.

Jambo says, I'VE TOLD THEM THEIR BEDTIME STORY SEVEN TIMES ALREADY. AND IT NEVER FAILS TO GET THEM TO SLEEP, BUT THEY'RE WIDE AWAKE.

La-La-La’s singing, LA-LA

Jambo says, THEY SAY THEY WANT TO HEAR IT AGAIN.

La-La-La’s singing, LA-LA

Jasmine says, THEN YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO TELL IT TO THEM AN EIGHTH TIME.

(Dooby Doo meowing)

La-La-La’s singing, LA-LA

(Yawning)

Jambo says, BUT I AM NOT THEIR FATHER!

(Jasmine yawning)

Jasmine says, BUT YOU HAVE TO TELL IT TO THEM, JAMBO!

La-La-La’s singing, LA-LA

Jambo says, I WANT TO SLEEP!

Jasmine says, THAT'S JUST IT. IF THEY GO TO SLEEP, WE CAN ALL GO TO SLEEP.

Jambo says, NO, I'VE HAD ENOUGH!

(Singing loudly)

Jambo turns into a loudspeaker.

Jambo shouts, GO TO SLEEP!

Jambo tries to say more.

(Static)

Jasmine asks, HUH?

Jambo turns back to his usual shape and points to his mouth. He speaks but no sound comes out.

Jambo takes off his head and shakes it.

(Piano keys plunking)

Jambo puts his head back on and tries to speak.

(Gasping)

Jasmine says, JAMBO! YOU'VE LOST YOUR VOICE! GREAT, NOW YOU REALLY CAN'T TELL THEM THE STORY THAT GETS THEM TO SLEEP. SO, WHAT DO WE DO?

(La-La-La's crying)

Jasmine says, NO ONE CAN SLEEP LIKE THIS.

(Horn blaring)

Jambo holds the French horn.

Jasmine says, AH, SO, THE ELEPHANT I HEARD EARLIER WAS YOU PLAYING THE FRENCH HORN. OF COURSE! JAMBO, YOU'VE LOST YOUR VOICE, BUT YOU CAN TALK WITH MUSIC. YOU CAN'T SAY "ELEPHANT," BUT YOU CAN MAKE ELEPHANT SOUNDS WITH THE HORN!

(Drumbeats)

The La-La-La and the other animals blink. Jambo straightens his bow tie. Jasmine stands under a lamp’s spotlight.

Jasmine says, SO, JAMBO AND I WILL TELL YOU A BEDTIME FABLE THAT NEVER FAILS. HE'LL USE MUSIC. AND I'LL USE MY VOICE. ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A-- A MOUSE? A LITTLE ANT?

Jambo plays a keyboard.

(Plinking keys)

Jasmine says, A WOODLAND ELF? YES, AN ELF CALLED MOULDY LEAF! ONE DAY, MOULDY LEAF THE ELF WAS WALKING THROUGH THE FOREST WHEN SUDDENLY...

(Plinking a scale)

Jambo plays a xylophone.

Jasmine says, HE FELL HEAD OVER HEELS. YES! HE FELL OVER AND ROLLED DOWN A HILL. POOR LITTLE MOULDY LEAF DIDN'T KNOW WHERE HE'D LANDED. HE WAS LOST!

Jambo plays a violin.

(Anxious violin music)

The La-La-La’s look scared.

(Whimpering, teeth chattering)

Jasmine says, AND ON TOP OF THAT, SOMETHING WAS PESTERING HIM.

(Kazoo humming)

Jasmine says A LITTLE FLY.

Jambo plays the kazoo.

(Humming continues)

Jasmine says, OR A BEE? A MOSQUITO!

(Giggling)

Jasmine says, AND THE MOSQUITO WANTED TO BITE HIM, SO THE ELF RAN AWAY AS FAST AS HIS LEGS WOULD CARRY HIM!

(Drum thudding)

Jasmine asks, NOW WHERE IS HE?

Jambo plays a drum with drum mallets.

(Thudding)

Jasmine asks, WHAT IS THAT COMING CLOSER?

(Piano keys plinking)

Jasmine says, A HIPPOPOTAMUS? UH... A MONSTER?

Dooby Doo jumps.

(Yowling)

Jasmine says, A GIANT!

Jambo nods.

(Piano keys plunking)

Jasmine says, HE'S SO TALL THAT HE CAN SEE WHERE THE ELF'S HOUSE IS, AND HE TELLS HIM WHICH WAY HE NEEDS TO GO.

(Rattling)

Jasmine says, SUDDENLY, IT STARTS TO RAIN. AND MOULDY LEAF THE ELF SHELTERS UNDER AN AUTUMN LEAF.

(Flute tweeting)

Jasmine says, BUT JUST THEN, HE SEES A LITTLE BIRD.

(Flute tweeting)

Jasmine continues, AND THE LITTLE BIRD CARRIES HIM ALL THE WAY BACK HOME. FAR BEYOND THE BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW THAT SPREADS ITS COLOURS ACROSS THE SKY.

(Flute playing softly)

La-La-La’s close their eyes. Jambo sinks to the floor and goes to sleep.

(Sighing)

Jasmine whispers, IT ACTUALLY WORKED! THE LA-LA-LA'S HAVE ALL GONE TO SLEEP!

A fish jumps out of its bowl.

Jasmine says, SHH!

The fish drops down and shuts its eye.

(Yawning)

Jasmine lies down.

(Jambo snoring)

The sun’s single eye is closed.

The sky changes to daytime and the sun wakes up and shines.

Jambo sits up and stretches.

Jambo says, WELL... AH, THE SUN SAYS GOOD MORNING, SOUNDLAND!

Jasmine says, GOOD MORNING, JAMBO. AH, YOU GOT YOUR VOICE BACK!

Jambo says, YES, BUT I DON'T PLAN ON WEARING IT OUT.

Jasmine says, WHY DON'T WE SEE IF I CAN GUESS HOW. TODAY, YOU'RE ONLY GOING TO TALK WITH INSTRUMENTS?

(Horn blaring)

(Meowing, giggling)

(Music playing)

Jasmine singing, USE YOUR MOUTH FOR TALKING. HELLO! OR USE YOUR HANDS TO SIGN. TAP WORDS ON A PIANO, A CYMBAL CAN SAY HI. MAKE THE SOUND OF RAINDROPS WITH A LONG RAIN STICK MAKE THE WIND BY BLOWING—
