Daniel stands in the set.
Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and wears glasses, jeans, and a burgundy long sleeved TVO Kids T-shirt.
He says WELCOME BACK TO
TVOK NEWS.
I'M YOUR NEWS ANCHOR,
DANIEL,
AND THIS IS OUR FEATURED STORY
OF THE WEEK.
NOW, WE ARE ABOUT TO MEET
B.J. AND ALYSA
FROM THE POLAR BEAR CONSERVATORY
IN CHURCHILL, MANITOBA.
B.J. and Alysa appear on a screen behind him.
B.J. is in his twenties and wears glasses, jeans, a blue and black T- shirt, a puffy black vest and a black knit hat.
Alysa is in her twenties, with long straight blond hair in a braid and wears jeans, a puffy blue jacket and a black knit hat.
Daniel says SO B.J. AND ALYSA,
WE WANT TO KNOW,
WHAT IS A PIZZLY
OR A GROLAR BEAR?
Alysa says SO A GROLAR BEAR IS
A HYBRID BEAR,
AND HYBRID MEANS
THAT IT'S A MIX.
SO IT'S HALF GRIZZLY BEAR
AND HALF POLAR BEAR,
AND THEY ONLY EXIST IN A CERTAIN
PART OF NORTHERN CANADA.
SO THERE'S NOT MANY LEFT
IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW,
AND WE DON'T THINK THAT WE'LL
EVER SEE A LOT OF THEM.
Daniel says OH, VERY INTERESTING.
OKAY, SO MY NEXT QUESTION IS,
WHY DO YOU THINK
ALL THIS IS HAPPENING?
Alysa says THERE WAS A FEMALE POLAR BEAR
IN THE HIGH ARCTIC
WHO CAME INTO CONTACT WITH
A COUPLE GRIZZLY BEARS,
AND THEY HAD CUBS,
BUT IT'S NOT
A VERY COMMON THING.
Daniel says OKAY, FAIR ENOUGH.
SO CAN YOU TELL ME
WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE?
Alysa says SO A GROLAR BEAR IS KIND OF
A FUNNY LOOKING BEAR.
FROM A DISTANCE IT MIGHT
LOOK LIKE A POLAR BEAR,
BUT WHEN YOU GET CLOSER,
IT HAS BROWN CIRCLES
AROUND ITS EYES,
AND IT'S GOT KIND OF FUNNY FEET,
AND A HEAD THAT'S KIND OF
HALFWAY BETWEEN A GRIZZLY BEAR
AND HALFWAY BETWEEN
A POLAR BEAR.
SO THEY'RE VERY
FUNNY LOOKING BEARS.
Daniel says OKAY, SO POLAR BEARS
ARE GOOD ON ICE AND IN WATER,
AND GRIZZLY BEARS
ARE GOOD ON LAND.
PIZZLY BEARS ARE GOOD ON BOTH?
Alysa says SO THE GROLAR BEAR OR
PIZZLY BEAR DOESN'T DO WELL
IN EITHER HABITANT,
BECAUSE IT'S NOT REALLY
WELL-SUITED FOR LAND
OR REALLY WELL SUITED
FOR THE SEA ICE.
IT'S KIND OF
AN IN-BETWEEN,
SO IT'S HARD TO STAY HEALTHY OUT
THERE FOR THAT BEAR.
Daniel says OKAY, OKAY.
NOW I WANNA KNOW,
IF YOU COULD CROSS ANY TWO
ANIMALS TOGETHER
AND CREATE A HYBRID,
IT COULD BE FLYING,
OR WATER,
OR WHATEVER.
WHICH TWO ANIMALS
WOULD YOU WANT TO SEE HYBRID?
B.J. says YOU KNOW,
I THINK SINCE THERE'S SO MANY
PEOPLE OUT THERE
THAT HAVE CATS,
AND SO MANY PEOPLE
THAT HAVE DOGS,
WHAT IF YOU COULD JUST
MIX THE TWO
AND YOU WOULD HAVE
THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS?
Daniel says THAT'S SO COOL,
AND WHAT WOULD YOU CALL IT?
LIKE A DOT OR A CAG, MAYBE?
CAG?
B.J. says CAG, I LIKE THAT.
Daniel says YEAH, I LIKE THAT, TOO!
WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH
B.J. AND ALYSA FROM
THE POLAR BEAR CONSERVATORY
IN CHURCHILL, MANITOBA.
NOW, DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT
OUR WEB POLL ON TVOKIDS.COM.
VOTE ON WHICH ANIMAL HYBRID
YOU WANT TO SEE THE MOST.
AND WHILE YOU'RE THERE,
SEND US AN EMAIL
ON WHAT NEWS STORY
YOU WANT TO SEE COVERED.
WELL, THAT IS ALL
FOR ME TODAY.
I'M DANIEL,
AND THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING.
