[Upbeat music plays]
In the Big Top Academy gym, Max flips onto a landing mat. Behind him, Celeste spins a hoop on her wrist. Madam Q helps Axel do a handstand.
Max says, HI THERE. WE KNOW THE STUFF WE DO IN THE SHOW LOOKS PRETTY COOL. BUT WE'VE BEEN TRAINING FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE COMING TO BIG TOP, AND HERE WE'RE ALWAYS WITH A PRO COACH.
He glances toward Madam Q.
Max says, SO PLEASE DON'T TRY ANY OF THE MOVES YOU SEE US DO. WE'RE COUNTING ON YOU TO BE SAFE. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE SHOW.
[Cheering and applause]
On the Big Top Academy stage, Mimi Martel is in the spotlight, wearing the shrinking suit.
A person narrates, PREVIOUSLY ON BIG TOP ACADEMY.
In a hallway backstage, Chase’s mom confronts Ms. Martel.
Chase’s mom says, GIVE ME THE MARBLE.
Ms. Martel reluctantly hands Chase’s mom a jewelry bag with a shard of a glowing green marble.
In costume, Chase says, NO MORE JOKES, MIMI. WHERE'S THE OTHER PIECE?
Eric watches from down the hall.
Elsewhere, with April, Erica says, MY MOM HAS THIS GREEN STONE THING. SHE SAID IT WAS A GIFT FROM HER OLD FRIEND MIMI MARTEL.
In a dark room, Erica watches her mom Edie practice aerial acrobatics.
Facing Erica, Edie says, SOON EVERY STUDENT AT ROYAL CIRCUS ACADEMY WILL BE ABLE TO PERFORM EQUALLY DARING FEATS.
Two kids wearing suits do backflips.
Erica says to April, TAKING B.T.A.'S RANKING AS THE WORLD'S GREATEST CIRCUS SCHOOL.
As his clown persona Lumpo, Axel performs before a crowd. Mr. Larocque watches with a smile.
Axel later says, MR. LAROCQUE. DID YOU ENJOY THE SHOW? YOU WANT ME TO COME ON TOUR WITH YOU? BE A CLOWN IN YOUR CIRCUS?
Mr. Laroque says, UNFORTUNATELY, WE ALREADY HAVE 2 CLOWNS, BUT I REMEMBER YOU'RE ALSO PRETTY GOOD AT TRAMPOLINE. AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT YOU'VE GOT.
In Edie’s office, Ms. Martel sits beside Erica.
Edie says, I NOTICED YOU'RE STILL WEARING VIOLETTA'S WATCH.
Ms. Martel says, I'M NOT HERE TO STIR UP THE PAST. I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE MARBLE.
Edie asks, WHAT MARBLE?
In Edie’s office with Edie, Nicholas opens a book titled “The Crown Jewel.” And finds a hidden jewelry pouch with a glowing, green marble shard. Erica puts a silver marble in Nicholas’s hand.
Erica says, NOW GO.
In a forest, Erica continues, DESTROY THIS THING FOR ALL OUR SAKES BEFORE MY MOM REALIZES IT'S GONE.
In the lab, Nicky puts a glowing, green marble shard in the shrinking suit.
[Nicky sighing]
Nicky says, OKAY.
He and Nicholas watch as Celeste zaps the suit with the demarbleizer, and the suit shrinks.
Nicky says, GREAT WORK. CELESTE.
He hugs Celeste.
Nicky asks, NOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN WALK MADAME Q THROUGH DESTROYING HER PIECE OF THE MARBLE?
Celeste says, ABSOLUTELY. SOON, THE MARBLE WILL BE GONE FROM THE WORLD FOREVER.
A marble shard glows in the palm of Edie’s hand.
[Gentle music plays]
In the lab at Big Top Academy, also known as B.T.A., April and Celeste sit at a table with a laptop.
Celeste says, THEN 3, 2, 1, SHRINK.
On a video call, Madam Q furrows her brow in a boiler room. The shrinking suit hangs behind her.
Madam Q says, REALLY? AND THE MARBLE JUST DISAPPEARS?
She holds up a marble shard.
Celeste explains, A PROCESS SIMILAR TO THE OUTFLOW FROM SUPER MASSIVE BLACK HOLES.
Madam Q says, AH.
Celeste says, AND IF MY CALCULATIONS ARE CORRECT, ONCE THE LAST PIECE IS DESTROYED, EVERYONE SHOULD DEMARBLEIZE.
Madam Q shrugs.
April says, GUYS, CLOCK'S TICKING, AND ERICA SAID HER MOM HAS A PRE-PERFORMANCE RITUAL GOING ON.
Celeste nods and says, OKAY. MADAME Q, PLACE THE MARBLE IN THE POCKET OF THE SHRINKING SUIT.
Madam Q says, OKAY.
She stands and puts the marble shard in the shrinking suit pocket.
In a forest, Erica says, WE'RE MOMENTS AWAY FROM THE END-OF-THE-YEAR SHOWCASE.
She stands beside her mom, Edie, and some of her classmates.
Erica says, THE CHANCE TO PROVE THAT ROYAL CIRCUS ACADEMY IS THE WORLD'S GREATEST CIRCUS SCHOOL.
Edie nods toward Erica and briefly smiles.
Edie says, AND THE MARBLE IS OUR PATH TO GLORY.
Erica says, OR BETTER YET, WE COULD USE OUR INCREDIBLE CIRCUS TALENTS.
Edie glances at Erica and frowns.
Edie turns to the other students and says, WHY LEAVE ANYTHING TO CHANCE? WHEN WE CAN GUARANTEE OUR NUMBER ONE RANKING. NOW, FOR THOSE OF YOU WILLING TO USE THE MARBLE, PREPARE TO BECOME INVINCIBLE.
Edie grins.
On the video call, Madam Q says, IN 3, 2, 1. SHRINK!
She presses a button on a remote.
[Whirring]
[Powering down]
April quietly says, YOU SAID THIS WOULD WORK. WE HAVE TO HURRY.
In the forest, Edie says, GIVE ME THE MARBLE.
Erica takes a jewelry pouch out of her pocket. Edie takes the pouch and dumps the silver marble into the palm of her hand.
Edie demands, WHERE IS THE MARBLE?
Her eyes glow green.
Edie says, ERICA.
On the video call, Madam Q says, I HAVE AN IDEA.
She bangs the remote against a fuse box. April and Celeste share a look, and they smile.
[Banging]
Madam Q demands, SHRINK!
She points the remote at the shrinking suit, and the suit disappears into the air with a burst of green light.
[Blasting]
In the forest, a wave of green light passes over Edie’s face. Edie stumbles into Erica.
[Edie grunting]
Erica asks, WHAT'S HAPPENING?
In the lab, Celeste says, WE DID IT, MADAME Q.
April says, YES! YOU DID IT CELESTE!
In the forest, Edie says, MY HEART. IT FEELS LIGHTER.
Erica grins and says, THAT MEANS YOU'RE DEMARBLEIZED. NICHOLAS MUST HAVE FOUND A WAY TO DESTROY THE MARBLE. THIS IS AMAZING!
She hugs Edie.
Edie says, AMAZING?
She holds Erica at arm’s length and glances at the other students.
Edie says, TO HAVE MY SCHOOL HUMILIATED BY B.T.A.?
Erica’s smile slowly drops.
Edie says, THE SHOW IS CANCELED.
[Dramatic music plays]
Edie turns to Erica and says, AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT.
Edie angrily walks away.
[Upbeat music plays]
An amulet opens, and a green light shines out. Circus equipment, including unicycles, juggling batons and aerial hoops float around pictures of Big Top Academy students. The first picture shows Nicholas smiling. Nicholas has short, curly dark hair and wears a blue collared shirt. The second picture shows Maxwell with a stoic expression. Maxwell has short brown hair and is wearing a black jacket.
A singer sings, CIRCUS IN MY SOUL.
Pictures of April and Phoenix smiling show April with long blond hair wearing a long-sleeved shirt and Phoenix with her long black hair in low pigtails wearing a jacket with a plaid hood.
The singer sings, HAPPINESS IN HEART.
The Big Top Academy students practice their skills. Phoenix juggles. Celeste wears a red clown nose. April practices ballet.
The singer sings, BEATING IN TIME, FULL OF RHYTHM.
Chase and Ella smile in their pictures. Chase has thick, curly brown hair and wears a grey blazer over a blue button-down shirt. Ella has long black hair and is wearing an orange pullover hoodie. Chase and Ella perform in their circus costumes.
The singer sings, READY TO START.
A book opens and reveals pictures of Celeste and Axel. Celeste wears her long, wavy black hair in a high ponytail and a purple T-shirt. Axel has chin-length wavy blond hair and wears a multi-coloured blazer over an orange T-shirt.
[Singer vocalizing]
Axel rides a unicycle, and Celeste hangs from a trapeze bar. The students all perform before a crowd. They pose together on centre stage. The title appears: Bit Top Academy. Produced in Collaboration with Cirque Du Soleil Images.
[Gentle music plays]
A bird’s eye view shows the courtyard at Big Top Academy. Text reads, “An Apartment 11 Production in association with Discover Kids Latin America.”
Phoenix says, THE THING I LIKE MOST ABOUT B.T.A. IS THAT WE'LL DO ANYTHING FOR EACH OTHER.
Ella films Phoenix with her phone.
Phoenix adds, WE'RE A FAMILY.
Ella lowers her phone and says, PERFECT. THANKS PHOENIX!
Phoenix says, SURE!
Ella walks down a path and past a student juggling with rings.
Ella says, HEY, NICHOLAS!
Nicholas walks toward Ella while flipping through his notes.
Ella says, DIRECTOR EXTRAORDINAIRE. TALK TO ME ABOUT TODAY'S BIG SHOW.
She films Nicholas. Nicholas continues walking.
Nicholas says, CAN'T. CRAZY BUSY.
Ella says, BUT AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE OPENING NUMBER?
Nicholas stops and says, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO BE LIVE-STREAMING WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Ella lowers her phone, and I'M NOT. YOUR GIRL, PRESIDENT ELLA PICCOLO, IS PUTTING TOGETHER A SUPER SPECIAL VIDEO YEARBOOK. SO COME ON. TALK TO ME!
She films Nicholas.
Ella says, IN A SHOWCASE FULL OF OUR STORIES, YOU MUST HAVE A GREAT ONE.
Nicholas says, I WISH I DID, BUT SO FAR I'VE GOT NOTHING.
Ella lowers her phone and says, NO WONDER. YOU'RE SO BUSY WITH EVERYONE ELSE YOU HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO THINK ABOUT YOURSELF.
Nicholas says, YOU'RE RIGHT.
Ella says, WELL, TICK TOCK MR. DIRECTOR, BECAUSE THE SHOW'S TODAY.
She walks away. Nicholas looks nervous.
[Funky music plays]
In the gym, Ella joins April by the front desk. They watch Maxwell spin around in a large metal ring. Maxwell steps off the ring and turns to face Ella and April.
Maxwell asks, SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
April says, THAT IT WOULD SPARKLE EVEN MORE IF I WAS DOING THIS.
She steps through the ring and kicks her leg up high. April slowly turns Maxwell in the ring and does a pirouette. She steps through the ring on the other side of Maxwell and spins him to face her once again. Maxwell smiles. Ella films the performance.
[Ella gasping]
Ella says, THAT WAS AMAZING. YOU GUYS SHOULD TOTALLY DO THAT IN THE SHOW.
Maxwell asks, LIKE A DUO?
April says, YEAH. I COULD TOTALLY SEE IT.
Maxwell says, BALLET AND CYR WHEEL. NOT THE WORST IDEA EVER.
Aril says, ONE-OF-A-KIND COMBO JUST LIKE YOU AND ME.
[Phone beeping]
Maxwell furrows his brow and puts down the ring, a Cyr wheel. He checks his phone.
Maxwell reads, HAVE YOU TOLD MS. MARTEL YOU'RE NOT COMING BACK?
April asks, WHAT'S GOING ON OVER THERE?
Maxwell turns and says, JUST MY DAD FIRMING UP PLANS FOR OVER THE BREAK. I'M GOING TO NAIROBI.
Ella says, IN KENYA? YOU MUST BE SO EXCITED!
Maxwell says, YEAH... SO EXCITED.
April says, SO? ARE WE DOING A DUO OR WHAT?
Maxwell says, NO. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A SOLO, SO IT'S GONNA STAY A SOLO.
April says, SERIOUSLY?
Maxwell says, SORRY.
He grabs the Cyr wheel and walks away. April looks disappointed. Ella tilts her head and leaves. Erica walks in.
[Door squeaking]
Elsewhere on campus, Erica says, GUYS, WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY.
Erica says, IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY, LIKE POOF.
She sits in a chair beside Maxwell, facing Nicholas, April and Celeste, who sit on a couch.
Celeste says, THAT IS AMAZING. MY CALCULATIONS WERE RIGHT ON. DESTROY THE MARBLE AND BOOM. TOTAL DEMARBLEIZATION.
April says, YOU MUST BE OVER THE MOON.
Erica says, EVERYONE AT R.C.A. IS EXCEPT MY MOM.
She looks disappointed.
Maxwell says, BUT SHE'S DEMARBLEIZED NOW, SO WHY ISN'T SHE HAPPY?
Erica says, THE MARBLE MADE HER COLDER, BUT SHE WAS VERY COMPETITIVE AND ALWAYS HELD A GRUDGE AGAINST B.T.A. NOW THAT SHE CANCELED OUR PERFORMANCE, WE WON'T BE ABLE TO SHOW OUR STUFF.
[Erica sighing sadly]
Erica says, EVERYONE WILL BE HERE WATCHING B.T.A. INSTEAD.
April says, I KNOW THE KIDS AT R.C.A.. THEY'RE AMAZING PERFORMERS. THEY'VE WORKED HARD ALL YEAR JUST LIKE US, AND NOW THEIR DREAMS ARE CRUSHED.
Nicholas glances toward Erica.
April asks, WHAT IF R.C.A. COMES AND PERFORMS WITH B.T.A. FOR THE YEAR-END SHOWCASE?
Erica looks shocked.
She says, YOU WOULD DO THAT?
April says, R.C.A. NEEDS OUR HELP.
Nicholas says, WE CAN MAKE IT WORK. I'LL JUST ADD MORE PARTS FOR EVERYONE. IT'LL BE AN EVEN MORE EPIC ROCK OPERA.
Celeste asks, WOULD YOUR MOM GO FOR THAT?
Erica looks thoughtful.
April says, THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.
On a video call, Edie sits at her desk.
April says, PLEASE, MS. WILLIAMS. R.C.A. DESERVES A CHANCE TO BE SEEN. IT'S ONLY FAIR.
She stands between Erica and Celeste behind Ms. Martel, facing Ms. Martel’s laptop.
Edie says, THAT'S RICH COMING FROM YOU. THE GIRL WHO BEGGED ME TO LET HER IN AFTER SHE GOT KICKED OUT OF B.T.A. AND THEN ABANDONED US THE FIRST CHANCE SHE GOT.
April says, PLEASE. ERICA IS MY FRIEND. JUST TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS. ANYTHING.
Edie looks annoyed. Her gaze grows thoughtful.
She says, ANYTHING? EVEN A PEACE OFFERING? LIKE THAT WATCH VIOLETTA MADE?
Ms. Martel holds up her wrist with Violetta’s watch.
She says, THIS OLD FUNKY HUNK OF JUNK?
Edie lifts one shoulder.
April says, SO, IF WE GIVE YOU THE WATCH, EVERYONE WILL GET TO PERFORM? WIN-WIN?
Ms. Martel says, YES. WHY NOT?
She takes off the watch.
Ms. Martel says, IT ONLY TELLS TIME AND NOT EVEN VERY WELL.
Celeste quietly says to April, IF THAT'S A VIOLETTA FIRTH INVENTION WE CAN'T JUST HAND IT OVER.
April says, CAN I SEE THE WATCH FOR A SECOND? VIOLETTA'S STUFF IS ALWAYS SO COOL.
Ms. Martel gives April the watch, and April passes it to Celeste. Celeste takes a silver marble off the watch and returns it to April.
Edie says, I DON'T HAVE ALL DAY.
April asks, SO, DO WE HAVE A DEAL? WE GIVE YOU THE WATCH AND YOU'LL LET YOUR SCHOOL PERFORM?
Edie says, CONSIDER THE RIVALRY ANCIENT HISTORY.
Ms. Martel takes the watch from April, shows it to Edie, and then closes the laptop. Erica grins and hugs April. Celeste purses her lips and grips the silver marble with red gemstones.
[Gentle music plays]
[Birds chirping]
A Big Top Academy sign hangs outside the gym. In the gym, Nicholas looks through costumes hanging on a rack.
Ella’s voice echoes, IN A SHOWCASE FULL OF OUR STORIES YOU MUST HAVE A GREAT ONE.
Nicholas’s voice echoes, I WISH I DID, BUT SO FAR I'VE GOT NOTHING.
Nicholas walks past shelves of shoes over to a mannequin with an eagle costume.
[Funky music plays]
In a flashback, in a dark room, Nicholas holds an amulet in the palm of his hand. A bright green light shines from the amulet, and a map projection appears in front of the eagle costume and highlights a location. In the present, Nicholas takes the eagle costume mask off the mannequin and puts it on.
Nicholas shakes his head and says, NO.
He takes off the mask and looks at the mannequin.
Nicholas says, THIS CAN'T BE MY STORY.
He walks away and returns to his dorm room. In front of the bunk bed, Chase adjusts his curly, teal hair. Nicholas grabs a notebook and pencil off the dresser.
Chase says, HEY, ROOMIE. WHAT DO YOU THINK? GLAM ROCK GREEN?
He turns and shows Nicholas the straight black hair on the other side of his head.
Chase asks, OR ROCKABILLY BLACK?
He glances at Nicolas, who writes in the notebook. A teal line marks Chase’s face from his forehead to his chin.
Chase says, OKAY. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Nicholas says, I'M REWRITING THE OPENING NUMBER FOR THE SHOW. I'M WRITING MYSELF OUT.
Chase says, WHAT? NO. YOU CAN'T! WE'RE ALL TELLING OUR STORIES. YOU HAVE TO TELL YOURS.
Nicholas walks past Chase and takes a seat on the lower bunk.
He says, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS.
Chase sits down beside Nicholas.
Chase says SURE YOU DO. YOU CAME HERE LOOKING FOR YOUR DAD WITH HIS AMULET FOR A GUIDE. FOUND THE MARBLE, GOT MEAN, FOUND YOUR DAD AND ON TOP OF IT ALL, YOU GOT THE BEST ROOMMATE EVER.
Nicholas continues working.
Chase says, SERIOUSLY, THE EAGLE IS YOUR STORY.
Nicholas says, YEAH, BUT I DON'T WANT IT TO BE.
He looks at Chase.
Nicholas says, THE EAGLE TOOK MY DAD AWAY. I LOST HIM FOR 10 YEARS.
Chase says, I GET THAT, AND I GET HOW MUCH IT HURT YOU, BUT YOUR DAD'S HERE NOW, AND HE'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE. YOUR DAD IS PART OF YOUR STORY.
Nicholas looks deep in thought.
He says, SO MAYBE HE COULD HELP ME TELL IT.
Chase shrugs. In Celeste and April’s dorm room, Celeste holds the Secret Book of Circus Secrets.
April asks, WHAT DOES AN OLD BOOK HAVE TO DO WITH VIOLETTA FIRTH AND A WATCH?
Celeste says, IT'S NOT JUST ANY BOOK. IT'S THE SECRET BOOK OF CIRCUS SECRETS. FOR YEARS, STUDENTS HAVE WRITTEN DOWN CIRCUS TRICKS, PRANKS, AND TRADITIONS.
April asks, AND HOW MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS?
Celeste says, QUITE A FEW. THIS IS WHERE VIOLETTA LEFT ME ALL OF HER KNOWLEDGE.
April stands beside Celeste, and Celeste opens the book.
Celeste says, HERE HOLD THIS.
She gives the book to April and shines a black light over handwritten text on one of the pages.
Celeste says, VIOLETTA MUST HAVE HAD A PURPOSE FOR THE WATCH.
The black light reveals hidden text.
Celeste says, JUST LIKE WITH ALL HER OTHER INVENTIONS.
She furrows her brow and scans both pages with the light.
Celeste says, HERE IT IS!
April grins.
Celeste reads, THE WATCH IS A TIME STOPPER. WHEN YOU SET THE TIME TO 9:15, PRESS THE BUTTON AND AIM IT AT SOMETHING. IT'LL SLOW DOWN THE MOVEMENT OF THE ATOMS TO ALMOST ZERO.
April glances at Celeste.
[Celeste sighing]
Celeste says, WE'RE LUCKY I TOOK THIS OUT.
She holds up the silver marble with red gemstones from Violetta’s watch.
April says, TOTALLY.
[April sighing]
April asks, WHY 9:15?
Celeste says, NO IDEA.
April says, AND FREEZING IN TIME. DOES THAT REALLY WORK?
Celeste shrugs and says, VIOLETTA SAYS IT DOES. WELL...DID. I GUESS IT'S LIKE WHEN A BEAR HIBERNATES.
April says, IT'S METABOLISM SLOWS DOWN. WE LEARNED THAT IN SCIENCE CLASS.
She and Celeste flip to another page in the book. Celeste shines the black light on the page.
Celeste reads, IF AN ACROBAT WAS FALLING, THEY COULD BE FROZEN IN MID-AIR SO THEY COULD BE RESCUED.
April says, OH MY CIRCUS.
She looks at Celeste.
April says, I BETTER GET THAT TIME-STOPPER BACK BEFORE EDIE GETS HER HANDS ON IT.
Celeste nods and turns off the black light.
She says, OKAY.
Celeste takes the book back from April.
Celeste says, AND I'LL FIND OUT IF THERE'S ANY WAY TO UNSTOP THE TIME STOPPER JUST IN CASE.
April nods and says, GOOD IDEA.
She leaves. Celeste takes a seat at her desk and flips through the book.
[Dramatic music plays]
In the gym, Nicholas walks behind a row of bleachers toward the stage.
Nicky says, HEY NICHOLAS.
Nicholas says, HEY.
He walks over to his dad, Nicky. A stagehand sets up a light. Another carries a chair across the stage.
Nicholas says, I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT HOW TO TELL MY STORY ON STAGE TONIGHT.
Nicky asks, AND?
Nicholas says, I'M PICTURING ESMERALDA FALLS IN THE BACKGROUND AS YOU WALK THE WIRE.
Nicky furrows his brow and says, I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
Nicholas says, WE'LL SET UP THE WIRE IN THE GYM AND RECORD THE WALK BEFORE THE SHOW; THEN WE'LL PROJECT THE VIDEO ONTO THE IMAGE OF THE FALLS.
Nicky glances over his shoulder toward the wall behind him.
He says, YEAH, THAT SOUNDS AMAZING.
Nicholas continues, THEN YOU, WEARING THE EAGLE SUIT, WILL DROP DOWN TOWARDS THE CROWD, AND THAT'LL START THE SHOW.
Nicky says, SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE VISIONARY, BUT I'M NOT DOING IT.
Nicholas says, WHY NOT? IT'S TIME FOR ME TO ACCEPT THAT YOU'RE MY STORY. I CAME TO BE B.T.A. BECAUSE I WANTED TO BE YOU.
Nicky says, OKAY, BUT IT'S ALSO TIME FOR YOU TO LEAVE THE NEST AND TELL THAT STORY. SON, THIS IS YOUR SHOW, ALL RIGHT, AND YOUR TIME TO FLY.
Nicky pats Nicholas’s shoulders and walks away. Nicholas’s gaze turns thoughtful.
[Intense music plays]
By the loading dock storage space backstage, April looks around. Erica walks in ahead of her toward an open doorway.

[April taking a deep breath]
April says, YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT TO ME.
Erica says, WHY? WE PROMISED IT TO MY MOM.
She looks at the watch.
Erica says, AND WHO CARES. IT'S JUST A HUNK OF JUNK.
April says, NO. IT… IT FREEZES PEOPLE IN TIME.
Erica says, WHAT?
April says, IT'S JUST LIKE THE MARBLE. IT WAS CREATED TO KEEP CIRCUS ARTISTS SAFE. BUT IN THE WRONG HANDS...
Erica says, BUT IF WE DON'T GIVE THE WATCH TO MY MOM, WE DON'T GET TO PERFORM. SHE PROBABLY DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT DOES.
April says, ERICA, WE'LL FIND A WAY FOR R.C.A. TO PERFORM. I PROMISE. BUT DO YOU REALLY WANT SOMETHING AS POWERFUL AS THE WATCH IN YOUR MOTHER'S HANDS?
Erica lowers her gaze. She hands April the watch, and April turns around. April spots a pile of juggling batons on an antique chair.
[April sighing]
April glances at Erica and grabs one of the batons. She lays the watch on a table.
April says, NOT NOW.
She shakes her head and says, NOT EVER.
April swings the baton toward the watch.
From close by, Edie says, WHY RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD WATCH?
April stops. The baton hovers over the watch. Edie walks toward her and Erica and snatches the watch off the table. April and Erica lower their gazes.
Edie says, AN EXQUISITE PIECE OF JEWELRY.
She holds up the watch and narrows her eyes.
Edie says, EXCEPT FOR THIS MISSING PIECE.
She shifts her gaze toward Erica and April, and April looks away.
Edie asks, ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS?
Erica and April shake their heads.
Edie says, THEN DON'T YOU GIRLS HAVE REHEARSALS TO GET TO?
She looks between Erica and April and waves them away. April returns the juggling baton to the antique chair and leaves with Erica. Edie looks back at the time-stopper watch.
[Gentle music plays]
In her dorm room, Celeste scans a page of the Secret Book of Circus Secrets with her black light. Among storage shelves backstage, Edie sits at a small table with the time-stopper watch and pulls out a magnifying glass. She takes a closer look at the watch.
Edie says, UGH, VIOLETTA. ALWAYS SOME KIND OF TRICK.
In her dorm room, Celeste says, WAIT. VIOLETTA WROTE ABOUT EDIE?
Celeste reads hidden text uncovered with the black light.
She says, EDIE WILLIAMS HAS A KEEN INTEREST IN MECHANICS.
Backstage, Edie puts on a pair of glasses with a magnifying light over one of the eyes.
Celeste continues, BUT WHEN I FOUND HER TINKERING IN MY LAB, I REALIZED I CAN NEVER SHARE MY INVENTIONS WITH HER.
Backstage, Edie tinkers with the time-stopper watch.
Celeste reads, SHE'S NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
Edie turns the hand of the clock on the watch and places a marble in the centre. With tweezers, Edie adjusts the position of the marble.
[Marble clicking into place]
The marble and other marbles on the watchband light up.
[Watch beeping]
Edie sets the tweezers down and holds up the watch. In her dorm, Celeste furrows her brow.
[Celeste sighing]
Celeste says, COME ON, VIOLETTA. THERE'S GOT TO BE SOMETHING IN HERE THAT TELLS ME HOW TO SPEED UP THE MOLECULES.
She flips to another page in the book. Backstage, Edie wears the watch. Nicky walks in and finds her sitting against a shelving unit.
Nicky says, EDIE? WHAT ARE YOU DOING BACK HERE?
Edie takes off the glasses and turns to Nicky.
She stands and says, JUST TINKERING.
[Suspenseful music plays]
Edie says, AND AS A MATTER OF FACT I NEED A TEST SUBJECT.
She steps toward Nicky and raises her hand with the watch face facing Nicky. The marbles on the watch light up.
[Watch whirring]
Edie zaps Nicky with the watch and freezes him.
[Zapping]
Edie walks around Nicky.
She asks, ANY OBJECTIONS NICKY?
Nicky remains frozen in place. Edie smirks.
Edie says, I'LL TAKE YOUR SILENCE AS A NO.
[Edie chuckling]
Edie steps past Nicky and grabs a purple topcoat. She puts the coat over Nicky’s shoulders and wraps a scarf around his neck. Edie places a yellow wig on Nicky’s head and covers him with a transparent blue sheet.
Edie says, YOU LOOK GOOD, NICKY.
[Edie quietly laughing]
Edie walks away.
[Light, playful music plays]
In the costume corner of the gym, the Big Top Academy students wear their circus costumes and makeup. In his white and grey wig hat, Maxwell adjusts his silver jacket. In a pink, white and purple wig hat and leotard, Ella films her friends on her phone. With red and blue hair, Chase slaps his hands against his arms and walks by Phoenix, who stands by the costume rack in her red and blue leotard and wig hat. Ella walks over to a vanity where Chase stands beside Axel, who wears his hair tied back.
Ella says, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PERFORMING WITH JACQUES LAROCQUE TODAY?
Axel spins on his stool toward Ella.
He says, NERVOUS.
Axel wears a red costume and blue and white eye makeup.
He says, SHOULD I DO WHAT MR. LAROCQUE WANTS OR SHOULD I FOLLOW MY HEART?
Ella asks, WHAT'S IT GONNA BE? CLOWNING OR TRAMPOLINE?
Axel says, I WISH I KNEW.
He spins back to face the vanity mirror. Ella pats Axel on his shoulder and walks over to another vanity.
Ella says, ROSA, YOU LOOK HAPPY.
Rosa spins toward Ella, wearing a red and blue wig, hat and costume.
Rosa says, I AM. THIS IS MY BIGGEST ROLE YET. FINALLY I'M NOT INVISIBLE.
Ella says, OF COURSE NOT. YOU'RE A STAR!
Rosa says, EVEN BETTER. I'M A BUTTERFLY!
She grins and Ella lowers her phone. Ella smiles and walks away. Nicholas walks through the room in his grey eagle costume.
Phoenix asks Nicholas, WHAT'S UP?
Nicholas pauses and turns to Phoenix.
Phoenix asks, PRE-SHOW JITTERS?
Maxwell joins Phoenix and Nicholas.
Nicholas asks, HAVE YOU SEEN MY DAD?
He looks around.
Nicholas says, I THOUGHT HE'D BE BACK HERE.
Erica joins Phoenix, Maxwell and Nicholas, wearing a yellow costume with a purple sequin belt. Phoenix and Maxwell share a look.
Nicholas says, I WANTED TO TELL HIM THAT I DECIDED TO WALK THE WIRE.
Among the shelving units, Nicky remains frozen.
From the costume corner, Maxwell says, I'M SURE HE'S GOT A FRONT ROW SEAT, ZOLTA. YOUR DAD WOULD NOT MISS THIS FOR ANYTHING.
Among the shelving units, Edie walks away from Nicky.
In the costume corner, Nicholas says, I HOPE SO.
In an office, Celeste sits at a desk and works on a device with a screwdriver. April walks in with a makeup bag and handheld mirror. Celeste and April wear red and blue costumes that match Phoenix’s and Rosa’s.
April says, THERE YOU ARE. YOU SAID YOU WOULD HELP ME WITH MY MAKE-UP.
[April and Celeste sighing]
Celeste takes off her glasses and sets them on the desk.
April looks at the device on the table and says, TELL ME WHATEVER THAT IS, IT STOPS THE TIME-STOPPER.
Celeste says, I'M STILL WORKING ON IT. I CAN'T BELIEVE EDIE GOT THE WATCH.
April puts her make-up bag and mirror on the table.
She says, IT'S OKAY. YOU TOOK OUT THAT PIECE, REMEMBER?
Celeste says, EDIE'S A TINKERER. SHE CAN FIX STUFF. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM.
April says, I GET THAT, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SHOW?
Celeste says, IT'LL BE GREAT, AND I'LL KEEP WORKING ON THIS DURING INTERMISSION.
She glances at the device on the table. April grabs her makeup bag and offers Celeste a reassuring smile. Celeste smiles and takes the bag.
[Cheerful music plays]
Facing the stage, a large audience fills the bleachers.
[Indiscernible chatter]
Backstage, the students chat and finish getting ready. A stagehand wearing a headset walks through the space. With her make-up and wig hat on, April walks in with her arms crossed.
[April exhaling]
April says, HEY EVERYONE, GATHER UP.
Everyone turns to face April.
April says, TODAY, B.T.A. AND R.C.A. STAND TOGETHER AMONG FRIENDS NEW AND OLD.
The students of B.T.A. AND R.C.A. smile.
April says, STRONGER THAN EVER.
Nicholas says, APRIL'S RIGHT.
He turns to the group.
Nicholas says, THIS ISN'T ABOUT RANKINGS ANYMORE. THIS IS ABOUT US.
April nods and says, SO LET'S DO THIS FOR US.
Chase says, B.T.A. ON 3.
He holds out his hand.
Chase adds, AND R.C.A.!
The other students put their hands forward with Chase’s.
Everyone says, 1, 2, 3. B.T.A. AND R.C.A.! WOO!
Someone cheers, LET'S GO!
The students run toward the stage.
[Dramatic music plays]
On stage, smoke machine smoke billows toward the audience. A video of Nicholas in his eagle costume is projected onto the wall. In the video, Nicholas walks across a tightrope at night under the full moon. Nicholas reaches the end of the tightrope and appears from above the stage.
[Clapping]
Nicholas is lowered onto the stage. He raises his arms and spreads the wings of his costume.
[Intense music plays]
The lights go out. They come back on and show sheets hanging from the ceiling. The sheets are pulled away, revealing different students in circus acts behind Nicholas.
[Clapping and cheering]
Nicholas glances at the other student and steps away from center stage. In center stage, a student performs her hand-balancing act. She rotates between four posts while doing the splits in the air. The student tilts her legs and balances on one hand.
[Clapping and cheering]
The student stands on two hands with her back to the audience. She looks around at the other students on the stage and then back toward the audience.
[Clapping and cheering]
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
Ella and Celeste pose on the trapeze bar and smile at each other. Celeste leans back over the bar, and Ella lies back on top of her. Ella lets go of the trapeze bar ropes and spreads her arms. She slides down Celeste and hangs from Celeste’s feet.
[Intense music plays]
[Clapping and cheering]
Ella steps onto the stage, and Celeste sits upright on the trapeze bar. Ella spins Celeste. Celeste crosses her legs over the bar and leans forward. She flips under the bar and hangs upside down.
[Clapping and cheering]
Celeste pulls herself upright onto the bar and slides across onto one leg. She rides the bar down to the floor. Above her, Rosa hangs upside down with red aerial silks.
[Intense music continues]
The silk unravels, and Rosa drops toward the stage. She stops the fall and hangs upside down. Rosa pulls herself upright. She steps onto the stage and smiles at the audience.
[Clapping and cheering]
Across the stage, April swings in her aerial hoop. She flips upside down and hangs from the top of the hoop. She briefly balances on her hands on the bottom of the hoop. She flips upright and steps onto the stage.
[Clapping and cheering]
April spins the hoop and runs through the smoke on the stage. She lets go of the hoop and drops to one knee.
[Clapping and cheering]
On a trapeze bar, Phoenix hangs upside down. She grabs the bar and swings up onto her stomach. She flips over the bag without touching it.
[Clapping and cheering]
Phoenix grabs the bar and hooks her knees over it. She lets go and flips off the bar onto the stage.
[Clapping and cheering]
On centre stage, Phoenix waves her arms and draws the other students forward. Ella kneels in front of the group. Phoenix, Celest, Rosa, April and Ella spread out. The other student climbs onto their hand-balancing posts. Phoenix and Rosa climb onto a cube frame behind her.
[Intense music continues]
The cube frame rises, and Phoenix and Rosa hook their knees over the top bar. April and Celeste grab the lower bar and hook their knees over it. The other student climbs down from the hand-balancing posts. Phoenix, Rosa, April and Celeste hang from the cube frame in different poses.
[Clapping and cheering]
Phoenix and Rosa hold April and Celeste’s hands and hang them from the frame. The frame slowly spins and lowers April and Celeste back to the stage. April and Celeste step onto the stage with the other student and pose in front of the audience.
[Clapping and cheering]
The students receive a standing ovation. In the costume corner backstage, everyone celebrates.
[Cheering]
Chase says, THAT WAS SO AWESOME, WOO-HOO!
He jumps up and down.
[Bittersweet music plays]
Nicholas stands by the vanities.
Phoenix walks over and says, HEY, WHAT'S UP?
Nicholas says, MY DAD WASN'T IN THE CROWD. SOMETHING'S WRONG. I CAN FEEL IT.
Phoenix follows Nicholas through the gym.
Phoenix says, I MEAN, IT IS SHOW DAY. YOUR DAD MAYBE GOT BUSY WITH SOMETHING?
Nicholas says, TOO BUSY TO TELL ME? TOO BUSY TO WATCH ME PERFORM AS THE EAGLE?
Phoenix says, I KNOW. JUST TAKE A DEEP BREATH.
Nichols says, I CAN'T LOSE HIM AGAIN, PHOENIX.
He and Phoenix walk past Nicky toward the storage shelves.
Phoenix says, HEY. I'M HERE, OKAY? AND WE'LL FIND YOUR DAD TOGETHER.
Nicholas nods and says, LET'S KEEP LOOKING.
[Nicholas sighing]
Nicholas steps past Phoenix, and Phoenix spots Nicky under the transparent blue sheet.
Phoenix says, WAIT.
Nicholas turns and follows Phoenix’s gaze. He pulls the sheet and wig off his dad, who is still frozen.
Nicholas says, DAD?
He and Phoenix look shocked.

Max says, HI THERE. WE KNOW THE STUFF WE DO IN THE SHOW LOOKS PRETTY COOL. BUT WE'VE BEEN TRAINING FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE COMING TO BIG TOP, AND HERE WE'RE ALWAYS WITH A PRO COACH.
He glances toward Madam Q.
Max says, SO PLEASE DON'T TRY ANY OF THE MOVES YOU SEE US DO. WE'RE COUNTING ON YOU TO BE SAFE. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE SHOW.
[Cheering and applause]
On the Big Top Academy stage, Mimi Martel is in the spotlight, wearing the shrinking suit.
A person narrates, PREVIOUSLY ON BIG TOP ACADEMY.
In a hallway backstage, Chase’s mom confronts Ms. Martel.
Chase’s mom says, GIVE ME THE MARBLE.
Ms. Martel reluctantly hands Chase’s mom a jewelry bag with a shard of a glowing green marble.
In costume, Chase says, NO MORE JOKES, MIMI. WHERE'S THE OTHER PIECE?
Eric watches from down the hall.
Elsewhere, with April, Erica says, MY MOM HAS THIS GREEN STONE THING. SHE SAID IT WAS A GIFT FROM HER OLD FRIEND MIMI MARTEL.
In a dark room, Erica watches her mom Edie practice aerial acrobatics.
Facing Erica, Edie says, SOON EVERY STUDENT AT ROYAL CIRCUS ACADEMY WILL BE ABLE TO PERFORM EQUALLY DARING FEATS.
Two kids wearing suits do backflips.
Erica says to April, TAKING B.T.A.'S RANKING AS THE WORLD'S GREATEST CIRCUS SCHOOL.
As his clown persona Lumpo, Axel performs before a crowd. Mr. Larocque watches with a smile.
Axel later says, MR. LAROCQUE. DID YOU ENJOY THE SHOW? YOU WANT ME TO COME ON TOUR WITH YOU? BE A CLOWN IN YOUR CIRCUS?
Mr. Laroque says, UNFORTUNATELY, WE ALREADY HAVE 2 CLOWNS, BUT I REMEMBER YOU'RE ALSO PRETTY GOOD AT TRAMPOLINE. AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT YOU'VE GOT.
In Edie’s office, Ms. Martel sits beside Erica.
Edie says, I NOTICED YOU'RE STILL WEARING VIOLETTA'S WATCH.
Ms. Martel says, I'M NOT HERE TO STIR UP THE PAST. I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE MARBLE.
Edie asks, WHAT MARBLE?
In Edie’s office with Edie, Nicholas opens a book titled “The Crown Jewel.” And finds a hidden jewelry pouch with a glowing, green marble shard. Erica puts a silver marble in Nicholas’s hand.
Erica says, NOW GO.
In a forest, Erica continues, DESTROY THIS THING FOR ALL OUR SAKES BEFORE MY MOM REALIZES IT'S GONE.
In the lab, Nicky puts a glowing, green marble shard in the shrinking suit.
[Nicky sighing]
Nicky says, OKAY.
He and Nicholas watch as Celeste zaps the suit with the demarbleizer, and the suit shrinks.
Nicky says, GREAT WORK. CELESTE.
He hugs Celeste.
Nicky asks, NOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN WALK MADAME Q THROUGH DESTROYING HER PIECE OF THE MARBLE?
Celeste says, ABSOLUTELY. SOON, THE MARBLE WILL BE GONE FROM THE WORLD FOREVER.

In the lab at Big Top Academy, also known as B.T.A., April and Celeste sit at a table with a laptop.
Celeste says, THEN 3, 2, 1, SHRINK.
On a video call, Madam Q furrows her brow in a boiler room. The shrinking suit hangs behind her.
Madam Q says, REALLY? AND THE MARBLE JUST DISAPPEARS?
She holds up a marble shard.
Celeste explains, A PROCESS SIMILAR TO THE OUTFLOW FROM SUPER MASSIVE BLACK HOLES.
Madam Q says, AH.
Celeste says, AND IF MY CALCULATIONS ARE CORRECT, ONCE THE LAST PIECE IS DESTROYED, EVERYONE SHOULD DEMARBLEIZE.
Madam Q shrugs.
April says, GUYS, CLOCK'S TICKING, AND ERICA SAID HER MOM HAS A PRE-PERFORMANCE RITUAL GOING ON.
Celeste nods and says, OKAY. MADAME Q, PLACE THE MARBLE IN THE POCKET OF THE SHRINKING SUIT.
Madam Q says, OKAY.
She stands and puts the marble shard in the shrinking suit pocket.
In a forest, Erica says, WE'RE MOMENTS AWAY FROM THE END-OF-THE-YEAR SHOWCASE.
She stands beside her mom, Edie, and some of her classmates.
Erica says, THE CHANCE TO PROVE THAT ROYAL CIRCUS ACADEMY IS THE WORLD'S GREATEST CIRCUS SCHOOL.
Edie nods toward Erica and briefly smiles.
Edie says, AND THE MARBLE IS OUR PATH TO GLORY.
Erica says, OR BETTER YET, WE COULD USE OUR INCREDIBLE CIRCUS TALENTS.
Edie glances at Erica and frowns.
Edie turns to the other students and says, WHY LEAVE ANYTHING TO CHANCE? WHEN WE CAN GUARANTEE OUR NUMBER ONE RANKING. NOW, FOR THOSE OF YOU WILLING TO USE THE MARBLE, PREPARE TO BECOME INVINCIBLE.
Edie grins.
On the video call, Madam Q says, IN 3, 2, 1. SHRINK!
She presses a button on a remote.
[Whirring]
[Powering down]
April quietly says, YOU SAID THIS WOULD WORK. WE HAVE TO HURRY.
In the forest, Edie says, GIVE ME THE MARBLE.
Erica takes a jewelry pouch out of her pocket. Edie takes the pouch and dumps the silver marble into the palm of her hand.
Edie demands, WHERE IS THE MARBLE?
Her eyes glow green.
Edie says, ERICA.
On the video call, Madam Q says, I HAVE AN IDEA.
She bangs the remote against a fuse box. April and Celeste share a look, and they smile.
[Banging]
Madam Q demands, SHRINK!
She points the remote at the shrinking suit, and the suit disappears into the air with a burst of green light.
[Blasting]
In the forest, a wave of green light passes over Edie’s face. Edie stumbles into Erica.
[Edie grunting]
Erica asks, WHAT'S HAPPENING?
In the lab, Celeste says, WE DID IT, MADAME Q.
April says, YES! YOU DID IT CELESTE!
In the forest, Edie says, MY HEART. IT FEELS LIGHTER.
Erica grins and says, THAT MEANS YOU'RE DEMARBLEIZED. NICHOLAS MUST HAVE FOUND A WAY TO DESTROY THE MARBLE. THIS IS AMAZING!
She hugs Edie.
Edie says, AMAZING?
She holds Erica at arm’s length and glances at the other students.
Edie says, TO HAVE MY SCHOOL HUMILIATED BY B.T.A.?
Erica’s smile slowly drops.
Edie says, THE SHOW IS CANCELED.
[Dramatic music plays]
Edie turns to Erica and says, AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT.
Edie angrily walks away.
[Upbeat music plays]
An amulet opens, and a green light shines out. Circus equipment, including unicycles, juggling batons and aerial hoops float around pictures of Big Top Academy students. The first picture shows Nicholas smiling. Nicholas has short, curly dark hair and wears a blue collared shirt. The second picture shows Maxwell with a stoic expression. Maxwell has short brown hair and is wearing a black jacket.

She films Nicholas.
Ella says, IN A SHOWCASE FULL OF OUR STORIES, YOU MUST HAVE A GREAT ONE.
Nicholas says, I WISH I DID, BUT SO FAR I'VE GOT NOTHING.
Ella lowers her phone and says, NO WONDER. YOU'RE SO BUSY WITH EVERYONE ELSE YOU HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO THINK ABOUT YOURSELF.
Nicholas says, YOU'RE RIGHT.
Ella says, WELL, TICK TOCK MR. DIRECTOR, BECAUSE THE SHOW'S TODAY.
She walks away. Nicholas looks nervous.
[Funky music plays]
In the gym, Ella joins April by the front desk. They watch Maxwell spin around in a large metal ring. Maxwell steps off the ring and turns to face Ella and April.
Maxwell asks, SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
April says, THAT IT WOULD SPARKLE EVEN MORE IF I WAS DOING THIS.
She steps through the ring and kicks her leg up high. April slowly turns Maxwell in the ring and does a pirouette. She steps through the ring on the other side of Maxwell and spins him to face her once again. Maxwell smiles. Ella films the performance.
[Ella gasping]
Ella says, THAT WAS AMAZING. YOU GUYS SHOULD TOTALLY DO THAT IN THE SHOW.
Maxwell asks, LIKE A DUO?
April says, YEAH. I COULD TOTALLY SEE IT.
Maxwell says, BALLET AND CYR WHEEL. NOT THE WORST IDEA EVER.
Aril says, ONE-OF-A-KIND COMBO JUST LIKE YOU AND ME.
[Phone beeping]
Maxwell furrows his brow and puts down the ring, a Cyr wheel. He checks his phone.
Maxwell reads, HAVE YOU TOLD MS. MARTEL YOU'RE NOT COMING BACK?
April asks, WHAT'S GOING ON OVER THERE?
Maxwell turns and says, JUST MY DAD FIRMING UP PLANS FOR OVER THE BREAK. I'M GOING TO NAIROBI.
Ella says, IN KENYA? YOU MUST BE SO EXCITED!
Maxwell says, YEAH... SO EXCITED.
April says, SO? ARE WE DOING A DUO OR WHAT?
Maxwell says, NO. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A SOLO, SO IT'S GONNA STAY A SOLO.
April says, SERIOUSLY?
Maxwell says, SORRY.
He grabs the Cyr wheel and walks away. April looks disappointed. Ella tilts her head and leaves. Erica walks in.
[Door squeaking]
Elsewhere on campus, Erica says, GUYS, WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY.
Erica says, IT HAPPENED SUDDENLY, LIKE POOF.
She sits in a chair beside Maxwell, facing Nicholas, April and Celeste, who sit on a couch.
Celeste says, THAT IS AMAZING. MY CALCULATIONS WERE RIGHT ON. DESTROY THE MARBLE AND BOOM. TOTAL DEMARBLEIZATION.
April says, YOU MUST BE OVER THE MOON.
Erica says, EVERYONE AT R.C.A. IS EXCEPT MY MOM.
She looks disappointed.
Maxwell says, BUT SHE'S DEMARBLEIZED NOW, SO WHY ISN'T SHE HAPPY?
Erica says, THE MARBLE MADE HER COLDER, BUT SHE WAS VERY COMPETITIVE AND ALWAYS HELD A GRUDGE AGAINST B.T.A. NOW THAT SHE CANCELED OUR PERFORMANCE, WE WON'T BE ABLE TO SHOW OUR STUFF.
[Erica sighing sadly]
Erica says, EVERYONE WILL BE HERE WATCHING B.T.A. INSTEAD.
April says, I KNOW THE KIDS AT R.C.A.. THEY'RE AMAZING PERFORMERS. THEY'VE WORKED HARD ALL YEAR JUST LIKE US, AND NOW THEIR DREAMS ARE CRUSHED.
Nicholas glances toward Erica.
April asks, WHAT IF R.C.A. COMES AND PERFORMS WITH B.T.A. FOR THE YEAR-END SHOWCASE?
Erica looks shocked.
She says, YOU WOULD DO THAT?
April says, R.C.A. NEEDS OUR HELP.
Nicholas says, WE CAN MAKE IT WORK. I'LL JUST ADD MORE PARTS FOR EVERYONE. IT'LL BE AN EVEN MORE EPIC ROCK OPERA.
Celeste asks, WOULD YOUR MOM GO FOR THAT?
Erica looks thoughtful.
April says, THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT.
On a video call, Edie sits at her desk.
April says, PLEASE, MS. WILLIAMS. R.C.A. DESERVES A CHANCE TO BE SEEN. IT'S ONLY FAIR.
She stands between Erica and Celeste behind Ms. Martel, facing Ms. Martel’s laptop.
Edie says, THAT'S RICH COMING FROM YOU. THE GIRL WHO BEGGED ME TO LET HER IN AFTER SHE GOT KICKED OUT OF B.T.A. AND THEN ABANDONED US THE FIRST CHANCE SHE GOT.
April says, PLEASE. ERICA IS MY FRIEND. JUST TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS. ANYTHING.
Edie looks annoyed. Her gaze grows thoughtful.
She says, ANYTHING? EVEN A PEACE OFFERING? LIKE THAT WATCH VIOLETTA MADE?
Ms. Martel holds up her wrist with Violetta’s watch.
She says, THIS OLD FUNKY HUNK OF JUNK?
Edie lifts one shoulder.
April says, SO, IF WE GIVE YOU THE WATCH, EVERYONE WILL GET TO PERFORM? WIN-WIN?
Ms. Martel says, YES. WHY NOT?
She takes off the watch.
Ms. Martel says, IT ONLY TELLS TIME AND NOT EVEN VERY WELL.
Celeste quietly says to April, IF THAT'S A VIOLETTA FIRTH INVENTION WE CAN'T JUST HAND IT OVER.
April says, CAN I SEE THE WATCH FOR A SECOND? VIOLETTA'S STUFF IS ALWAYS SO COOL.
Ms. Martel gives April the watch, and April passes it to Celeste. Celeste takes a silver marble off the watch and returns it to April.
Edie says, I DON'T HAVE ALL DAY.
April asks, SO, DO WE HAVE A DEAL? WE GIVE YOU THE WATCH AND YOU'LL LET YOUR SCHOOL PERFORM?
Edie says, CONSIDER THE RIVALRY ANCIENT HISTORY.
Ms. Martel takes the watch from April, shows it to Edie, and then closes the laptop. Erica grins and hugs April. Celeste purses her lips and grips the silver marble with red gemstones.
[Gentle music plays]
[Birds chirping]
A Big Top Academy sign hangs outside the gym. In the gym, Nicholas looks through costumes hanging on a rack.
Ella’s voice echoes, IN A SHOWCASE FULL OF OUR STORIES YOU MUST HAVE A GREAT ONE.
Nicholas’s voice echoes, I WISH I DID, BUT SO FAR I'VE GOT NOTHING.
Nicholas walks past shelves of shoes over to a mannequin with an eagle costume.
[Funky music plays]
In a flashback, in a dark room, Nicholas holds an amulet in the palm of his hand. A bright green light shines from the amulet, and a map projection appears in front of the eagle costume and highlights a location. In the present, Nicholas takes the eagle costume mask off the mannequin and puts it on.
Nicholas shakes his head and says, NO.
He takes off the mask and looks at the mannequin.
Nicholas says, THIS CAN'T BE MY STORY.
He walks away and returns to his dorm room. In front of the bunk bed, Chase adjusts his curly, teal hair. Nicholas grabs a notebook and pencil off the dresser.
Chase says, HEY, ROOMIE. WHAT DO YOU THINK? GLAM ROCK GREEN?
He turns and shows Nicholas the straight black hair on the other side of his head.
Chase asks, OR ROCKABILLY BLACK?
He glances at Nicolas, who writes in the notebook. A teal line marks Chase’s face from his forehead to his chin.
Chase says, OKAY. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Nicholas says, I'M REWRITING THE OPENING NUMBER FOR THE SHOW. I'M WRITING MYSELF OUT.
Chase says, WHAT? NO. YOU CAN'T! WE'RE ALL TELLING OUR STORIES. YOU HAVE TO TELL YOURS.
Nicholas walks past Chase and takes a seat on the lower bunk.
He says, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS.
Chase sits down beside Nicholas.
Chase says SURE YOU DO. YOU CAME HERE LOOKING FOR YOUR DAD WITH HIS AMULET FOR A GUIDE. FOUND THE MARBLE, GOT MEAN, FOUND YOUR DAD AND ON TOP OF IT ALL, YOU GOT THE BEST ROOMMATE EVER.
Nicholas continues working.
Chase says, SERIOUSLY, THE EAGLE IS YOUR STORY.
Nicholas says, YEAH, BUT I DON'T WANT IT TO BE.
He looks at Chase.
Nicholas says, THE EAGLE TOOK MY DAD AWAY. I LOST HIM FOR 10 YEARS.
Chase says, I GET THAT, AND I GET HOW MUCH IT HURT YOU, BUT YOUR DAD'S HERE NOW, AND HE'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE. YOUR DAD IS PART OF YOUR STORY.
Nicholas looks deep in thought.
He says, SO MAYBE HE COULD HELP ME TELL IT.
Chase shrugs. In Celeste and April’s dorm room, Celeste holds the Secret Book of Circus Secrets.
April asks, WHAT DOES AN OLD BOOK HAVE TO DO WITH VIOLETTA FIRTH AND A WATCH?
Celeste says, IT'S NOT JUST ANY BOOK. IT'S THE SECRET BOOK OF CIRCUS SECRETS. FOR YEARS, STUDENTS HAVE WRITTEN DOWN CIRCUS TRICKS, PRANKS, AND TRADITIONS.
April asks, AND HOW MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS?
Celeste says, QUITE A FEW. THIS IS WHERE VIOLETTA LEFT ME ALL OF HER KNOWLEDGE.
April stands beside Celeste, and Celeste opens the book.
Celeste says, HERE HOLD THIS.
She gives the book to April and shines a black light over handwritten text on one of the pages.
Celeste says, VIOLETTA MUST HAVE HAD A PURPOSE FOR THE WATCH.
The black light reveals hidden text.
Celeste says, JUST LIKE WITH ALL HER OTHER INVENTIONS.
She furrows her brow and scans both pages with the light.
Celeste says, HERE IT IS!
April grins.
Celeste reads, THE WATCH IS A TIME STOPPER. WHEN YOU SET THE TIME TO 9:15, PRESS THE BUTTON AND AIM IT AT SOMETHING. IT'LL SLOW DOWN THE MOVEMENT OF THE ATOMS TO ALMOST ZERO.
April glances at Celeste.
[Celeste sighing]
Celeste says, WE'RE LUCKY I TOOK THIS OUT.
She holds up the silver marble with red gemstones from Violetta’s watch.
April says, TOTALLY.
[April sighing]
April asks, WHY 9:15?
Celeste says, NO IDEA.
April says, AND FREEZING IN TIME. DOES THAT REALLY WORK?
Celeste shrugs and says, VIOLETTA SAYS IT DOES. WELL...DID. I GUESS IT'S LIKE WHEN A BEAR HIBERNATES.
April says, IT'S METABOLISM SLOWS DOWN. WE LEARNED THAT IN SCIENCE CLASS.
She and Celeste flip to another page in the book. Celeste shines the black light on the page.
Celeste reads, IF AN ACROBAT WAS FALLING, THEY COULD BE FROZEN IN MID-AIR SO THEY COULD BE RESCUED.
April says, OH MY CIRCUS.
She looks at Celeste.
April says, I BETTER GET THAT TIME-STOPPER BACK BEFORE EDIE GETS HER HANDS ON IT.
Celeste nods and turns off the black light.
She says, OKAY.
Celeste takes the book back from April.
Celeste says, AND I'LL FIND OUT IF THERE'S ANY WAY TO UNSTOP THE TIME STOPPER JUST IN CASE.
April nods and says, GOOD IDEA.
She leaves. Celeste takes a seat at her desk and flips through the book.
[Dramatic music plays]
In the gym, Nicholas walks behind a row of bleachers toward the stage.
Nicky says, HEY NICHOLAS.
Nicholas says, HEY.
He walks over to his dad, Nicky. A stagehand sets up a light. Another carries a chair across the stage.
Nicholas says, I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT HOW TO TELL MY STORY ON STAGE TONIGHT.
Nicky asks, AND?
Nicholas says, I'M PICTURING ESMERALDA FALLS IN THE BACKGROUND AS YOU WALK THE WIRE.
Nicky furrows his brow and says, I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
Nicholas says, WE'LL SET UP THE WIRE IN THE GYM AND RECORD THE WALK BEFORE THE SHOW; THEN WE'LL PROJECT THE VIDEO ONTO THE IMAGE OF THE FALLS.
Nicky glances over his shoulder toward the wall behind him.
He says, YEAH, THAT SOUNDS AMAZING.
Nicholas continues, THEN YOU, WEARING THE EAGLE SUIT, WILL DROP DOWN TOWARDS THE CROWD, AND THAT'LL START THE SHOW.
Nicky says, SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE VISIONARY, BUT I'M NOT DOING IT.
Nicholas says, WHY NOT? IT'S TIME FOR ME TO ACCEPT THAT YOU'RE MY STORY. I CAME TO BE B.T.A. BECAUSE I WANTED TO BE YOU.
Nicky says, OKAY, BUT IT'S ALSO TIME FOR YOU TO LEAVE THE NEST AND TELL THAT STORY. SON, THIS IS YOUR SHOW, ALL RIGHT, AND YOUR TIME TO FLY.
Nicky pats Nicholas’s shoulders and walks away. Nicholas’s gaze turns thoughtful.
[Intense music plays]
By the loading dock storage space backstage, April looks around. Erica walks in ahead of her toward an open doorway.
April runs up behind Erica and says, YOU'RE HERE?
Erica holds Violetta’s time-stopper watch.
Erica says, I'M MEETING MY MOM TO GIVE HER THE WATCH.
April says, ACTUALLY…
[April taking a deep breath]
April says, YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT TO ME.
Erica says, WHY? WE PROMISED IT TO MY MOM.
She looks at the watch.
Erica says, AND WHO CARES. IT'S JUST A HUNK OF JUNK.
April says, NO. IT… IT FREEZES PEOPLE IN TIME.
Erica says, WHAT?
April says, IT'S JUST LIKE THE MARBLE. IT WAS CREATED TO KEEP CIRCUS ARTISTS SAFE. BUT IN THE WRONG HANDS...
Erica says, BUT IF WE DON'T GIVE THE WATCH TO MY MOM, WE DON'T GET TO PERFORM. SHE PROBABLY DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT DOES.
April says, ERICA, WE'LL FIND A WAY FOR R.C.A. TO PERFORM. I PROMISE. BUT DO YOU REALLY WANT SOMETHING AS POWERFUL AS THE WATCH IN YOUR MOTHER'S HANDS?
Erica lowers her gaze. She hands April the watch, and April turns around. April spots a pile of juggling batons on an antique chair.
[April sighing]
April glances at Erica and grabs one of the batons. She lays the watch on a table.
April says, NOT NOW.
She shakes her head and says, NOT EVER.
April swings the baton toward the watch.
From close by, Edie says, WHY RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD WATCH?
April stops. The baton hovers over the watch. Edie walks toward her and Erica and snatches the watch off the table. April and Erica lower their gazes.
Edie says, AN EXQUISITE PIECE OF JEWELRY.
She holds up the watch and narrows her eyes.
Edie says, EXCEPT FOR THIS MISSING PIECE.
She shifts her gaze toward Erica and April, and April looks away.
Edie asks, ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS?
Erica and April shake their heads.
Edie says, THEN DON'T YOU GIRLS HAVE REHEARSALS TO GET TO?
She looks between Erica and April and waves them away. April returns the juggling baton to the antique chair and leaves with Erica. Edie looks back at the time-stopper watch.

In her dorm room, Celeste scans a page of the Secret Book of Circus Secrets with her black light. Among storage shelves backstage, Edie sits at a small table with the time-stopper watch and pulls out a magnifying glass. She takes a closer look at the watch.
Edie says, UGH, VIOLETTA. ALWAYS SOME KIND OF TRICK.
In her dorm room, Celeste says, WAIT. VIOLETTA WROTE ABOUT EDIE?
Celeste reads hidden text uncovered with the black light.
She says, EDIE WILLIAMS HAS A KEEN INTEREST IN MECHANICS.
Backstage, Edie puts on a pair of glasses with a magnifying light over one of the eyes.
Celeste continues, BUT WHEN I FOUND HER TINKERING IN MY LAB, I REALIZED I CAN NEVER SHARE MY INVENTIONS WITH HER.
Backstage, Edie tinkers with the time-stopper watch.
Celeste reads, SHE'S NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
Edie turns the hand of the clock on the watch and places a marble in the centre. With tweezers, Edie adjusts the position of the marble.
[Marble clicking into place]
The marble and other marbles on the watchband light up.
[Watch beeping]
Edie sets the tweezers down and holds up the watch. In her dorm, Celeste furrows her brow.
[Celeste sighing]
Celeste says, COME ON, VIOLETTA. THERE'S GOT TO BE SOMETHING IN HERE THAT TELLS ME HOW TO SPEED UP THE MOLECULES.
She flips to another page in the book. Backstage, Edie wears the watch. Nicky walks in and finds her sitting against a shelving unit.
Nicky says, EDIE? WHAT ARE YOU DOING BACK HERE?
Edie takes off the glasses and turns to Nicky.
She stands and says, JUST TINKERING.
[Suspenseful music plays]
Edie says, AND AS A MATTER OF FACT I NEED A TEST SUBJECT.
She steps toward Nicky and raises her hand with the watch face facing Nicky. The marbles on the watch light up.
[Watch whirring]
Edie zaps Nicky with the watch and freezes him.
[Zapping]
Edie walks around Nicky.
She asks, ANY OBJECTIONS NICKY?
Nicky remains frozen in place. Edie smirks.
Edie says, I'LL TAKE YOUR SILENCE AS A NO.
[Edie chuckling]
Edie steps past Nicky and grabs a purple topcoat. She puts the coat over Nicky’s shoulders and wraps a scarf around his neck. Edie places a yellow wig on Nicky’s head and covers him with a transparent blue sheet.
Edie says, YOU LOOK GOOD, NICKY.
[Edie quietly laughing]
Edie walks away.
[Light, playful music plays]
In the costume corner of the gym, the Big Top Academy students wear their circus costumes and makeup. In his white and grey wig hat, Maxwell adjusts his silver jacket. In a pink, white and purple wig hat and leotard, Ella films her friends on her phone. With red and blue hair, Chase slaps his hands against his arms and walks by Phoenix, who stands by the costume rack in her red and blue leotard and wig hat. Ella walks over to a vanity where Chase stands beside Axel, who wears his hair tied back.
Ella says, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT PERFORMING WITH JACQUES LAROCQUE TODAY?
Axel spins on his stool toward Ella.
He says, NERVOUS.
Axel wears a red costume and blue and white eye makeup.
He says, SHOULD I DO WHAT MR. LAROCQUE WANTS OR SHOULD I FOLLOW MY HEART?
Ella asks, WHAT'S IT GONNA BE? CLOWNING OR TRAMPOLINE?
Axel says, I WISH I KNEW.
He spins back to face the vanity mirror. Ella pats Axel on his shoulder and walks over to another vanity.
Ella says, ROSA, YOU LOOK HAPPY.
Rosa spins toward Ella, wearing a red and blue wig, hat and costume.
Rosa says, I AM. THIS IS MY BIGGEST ROLE YET. FINALLY I'M NOT INVISIBLE.
Ella says, OF COURSE NOT. YOU'RE A STAR!
Rosa says, EVEN BETTER. I'M A BUTTERFLY!
She grins and Ella lowers her phone. Ella smiles and walks away. Nicholas walks through the room in his grey eagle costume.
Phoenix asks Nicholas, WHAT'S UP?
Nicholas pauses and turns to Phoenix.
Phoenix asks, PRE-SHOW JITTERS?
Maxwell joins Phoenix and Nicholas.
Nicholas asks, HAVE YOU SEEN MY DAD?
He looks around.
Nicholas says, I THOUGHT HE'D BE BACK HERE.
Erica joins Phoenix, Maxwell and Nicholas, wearing a yellow costume with a purple sequin belt. Phoenix and Maxwell share a look.
Nicholas says, I WANTED TO TELL HIM THAT I DECIDED TO WALK THE WIRE.
Among the shelving units, Nicky remains frozen.
From the costume corner, Maxwell says, I'M SURE HE'S GOT A FRONT ROW SEAT, ZOLTA. YOUR DAD WOULD NOT MISS THIS FOR ANYTHING.
Among the shelving units, Edie walks away from Nicky.
In the costume corner, Nicholas says, I HOPE SO.
In an office, Celeste sits at a desk and works on a device with a screwdriver. April walks in with a makeup bag and handheld mirror. Celeste and April wear red and blue costumes that match Phoenix’s and Rosa’s.
April says, THERE YOU ARE. YOU SAID YOU WOULD HELP ME WITH MY MAKE-UP.
[April and Celeste sighing]
Celeste takes off her glasses and sets them on the desk.
April looks at the device on the table and says, TELL ME WHATEVER THAT IS, IT STOPS THE TIME-STOPPER.
Celeste says, I'M STILL WORKING ON IT. I CAN'T BELIEVE EDIE GOT THE WATCH.
April puts her make-up bag and mirror on the table.
She says, IT'S OKAY. YOU TOOK OUT THAT PIECE, REMEMBER?
Celeste says, EDIE'S A TINKERER. SHE CAN FIX STUFF. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM.
April says, I GET THAT, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SHOW?
Celeste says, IT'LL BE GREAT, AND I'LL KEEP WORKING ON THIS DURING INTERMISSION.
She glances at the device on the table. April grabs her makeup bag and offers Celeste a reassuring smile. Celeste smiles and takes the bag.
[Cheerful music plays]
Facing the stage, a large audience fills the bleachers.
[Indiscernible chatter]
Backstage, the students chat and finish getting ready. A stagehand wearing a headset walks through the space. With her make-up and wig hat on, April walks in with her arms crossed.
[April exhaling]
April says, HEY EVERYONE, GATHER UP.
Everyone turns to face April.
April says, TODAY, B.T.A. AND R.C.A. STAND TOGETHER AMONG FRIENDS NEW AND OLD.
The students of B.T.A. AND R.C.A. smile.
April says, STRONGER THAN EVER.
Nicholas says, APRIL'S RIGHT.
He turns to the group.
Nicholas says, THIS ISN'T ABOUT RANKINGS ANYMORE. THIS IS ABOUT US.
April nods and says, SO LET'S DO THIS FOR US.
Chase says, B.T.A. ON 3.
He holds out his hand.
Chase adds, AND R.C.A.!
The other students put their hands forward with Chase’s.
Everyone says, 1, 2, 3. B.T.A. AND R.C.A.! WOO!
Someone cheers, LET'S GO!
The students run toward the stage.
[Dramatic music plays]
On stage, smoke machine smoke billows toward the audience. A video of Nicholas in his eagle costume is projected onto the wall. In the video, Nicholas walks across a tightrope at night under the full moon. Nicholas reaches the end of the tightrope and appears from above the stage.
[Clapping]
Nicholas is lowered onto the stage. He raises his arms and spreads the wings of his costume.
[Intense music plays]
The lights go out. They come back on and show sheets hanging from the ceiling. The sheets are pulled away, revealing different students in circus acts behind Nicholas.
[Clapping and cheering]
Nicholas glances at the other student and steps away from center stage. In center stage, a student performs her hand-balancing act. She rotates between four posts while doing the splits in the air. The student tilts her legs and balances on one hand.
[Clapping and cheering]
The student stands on two hands with her back to the audience. She looks around at the other students on the stage and then back toward the audience.
[Clapping and cheering]
[Gentle, cheerful music plays]
Ella and Celeste pose on the trapeze bar and smile at each other. Celeste leans back over the bar, and Ella lies back on top of her. Ella lets go of the trapeze bar ropes and spreads her arms. She slides down Celeste and hangs from Celeste’s feet.
[Intense music plays]
[Clapping and cheering]
Ella steps onto the stage, and Celeste sits upright on the trapeze bar. Ella spins Celeste. Celeste crosses her legs over the bar and leans forward. She flips under the bar and hangs upside down.
[Clapping and cheering]
Celeste pulls herself upright onto the bar and slides across onto one leg. She rides the bar down to the floor. Above her, Rosa hangs upside down with red aerial silks.
[Intense music continues]
The silk unravels, and Rosa drops toward the stage. She stops the fall and hangs upside down. Rosa pulls herself upright. She steps onto the stage and smiles at the audience.
[Clapping and cheering]
Across the stage, April swings in her aerial hoop. She flips upside down and hangs from the top of the hoop. She briefly balances on her hands on the bottom of the hoop. She flips upright and steps onto the stage.
[Clapping and cheering]
April spins the hoop and runs through the smoke on the stage. She lets go of the hoop and drops to one knee.
[Clapping and cheering]
On a trapeze bar, Phoenix hangs upside down. She grabs the bar and swings up onto her stomach. She flips over the bag without touching it.
[Clapping and cheering]
Phoenix grabs the bar and hooks her knees over it. She lets go and flips off the bar onto the stage.
[Clapping and cheering]
On centre stage, Phoenix waves her arms and draws the other students forward. Ella kneels in front of the group. Phoenix, Celest, Rosa, April and Ella spread out. The other student climbs onto their hand-balancing posts. Phoenix and Rosa climb onto a cube frame behind her.
[Intense music continues]
The cube frame rises, and Phoenix and Rosa hook their knees over the top bar. April and Celeste grab the lower bar and hook their knees over it. The other student climbs down from the hand-balancing posts. Phoenix, Rosa, April and Celeste hang from the cube frame in different poses.
[Clapping and cheering]
Phoenix and Rosa hold April and Celeste’s hands and hang them from the frame. The frame slowly spins and lowers April and Celeste back to the stage. April and Celeste step onto the stage with the other student and pose in front of the audience.
[Clapping and cheering]
The students receive a standing ovation. In the costume corner backstage, everyone celebrates.
[Cheering]
Chase says, THAT WAS SO AWESOME, WOO-HOO!
He jumps up and down.
[Bittersweet music plays]
Nicholas stands by the vanities.
Phoenix walks over and says, HEY, WHAT'S UP?
Nicholas says, MY DAD WASN'T IN THE CROWD. SOMETHING'S WRONG. I CAN FEEL IT.
Phoenix follows Nicholas through the gym.
Phoenix says, I MEAN, IT IS SHOW DAY. YOUR DAD MAYBE GOT BUSY WITH SOMETHING?
Nicholas says, TOO BUSY TO TELL ME? TOO BUSY TO WATCH ME PERFORM AS THE EAGLE?
Phoenix says, I KNOW. JUST TAKE A DEEP BREATH.
Nichols says, I CAN'T LOSE HIM AGAIN, PHOENIX.
He and Phoenix walk past Nicky toward the storage shelves.
Phoenix says, HEY. I'M HERE, OKAY? AND WE'LL FIND YOUR DAD TOGETHER.
Nicholas nods and says, LET'S KEEP LOOKING.
[Nicholas sighing]
Nicholas steps past Phoenix, and Phoenix spots Nicky under the transparent blue sheet.
Phoenix says, WAIT.
Nicholas turns and follows Phoenix’s gaze. He pulls the sheet and wig off his dad, who is still frozen.
Nicholas says, DAD?
He and Phoenix look shocked.
