Transcript: Experimnet: Storm in a Cup
Lucas sits at a table inside an apartment. He's in his twenties, clean-shaven, with short dark hair, and wears a burgundy hoodie and a gray cap.
On the table sit a globe, a plant in a green pot, a bottle of water, a glass, a spoon and shaving foam, among other objects.
Lucas says HEY TVO KIDS, LUCAS HERE,
AND TODAY, I AM GOING TO
SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE
A STORM IN A CUP.
THAT'S RIGHT, I BET YOU'VE
OFTEN FOUND YOURSELF
LOOKING UP TO THE SKY,
WONDERING,
"HOW DO THOSE CLOUDS WORK?"
WELL, TODAY WE'RE GONNA LOOK AT
IT RIGHT FROM THE GROUND.
SO, CHECK THIS OUT, YOU'RE GONNA
NEED SHAVING CREAM,
FOOD COLOURING OF YOUR CHOICE,
A WATER GLASS,
A SPOON,
AND WATER.
THAT'S RIGHT. SO, I'VE NEVER
DONE THIS BEFORE, EITHER,
SO WE'RE GONNA FIGURE
THIS OUT TOGETHER.
TAKE WATER AND FILL YOUR CUP UP,
MAYBE ABOUT HALF WAY TO 2 thirds.
He pours water into the glass and says OKAY, COOL,
THAT LOOKS GOOD.
NEXT, YOU'RE GONNA SHAKE UP
YOUR SHAVING CREAM
SO IT'S NICE AND CLOUD LIKE,
BECAUSE THIS IS GONNA
BE YOUR CLOUD.
YOU ARE GOING TO FILL
IT UP LIKE THIS.
He adds shaving cream to the top of the glass and says NOT ALL THE WAY TO THE
TOP BECAUSE YOU WANT
A LITTLE BIT
OF ROOM FOR WATER.
YOU'RE GONNA TAKE YOUR SPOON
AND MAKE SURE THAT IT'S
NICE AND SMOOTH.
He smooths out the cream and says OKAY, LOOK.
LOOKS LIKE A REGULAR
CLOUD AND SOME WATER,
OR MAYBE SOME AIR, TO ME.
OKAY.
NOW, TAKE YOUR WATER AND
TAKE FOOD COLOURING,
WHATEVER COLOUR YOU PREFER.
As he pours a few drops of blue food colouring into a small jar of water he says I'M GONNA CHOOSE BLUE BECAUSE
THAT IS GOING TO MAKE IT
LOOK LIKE A VERY DRAMATIC STORM.
OKAY.
GIVE IT A LITTLE MIX.
AND POUR IT ONTO YOUR CLOUD
AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
He pours the blue water onto the shaving cream and says OKAY.
(GASPS)
WHOA! OKAY, CHECK IT OUT.
THE SHAVING CREAM IS
ABSORBING THAT WATER,
SO THAT'S WHAT
CLOUDS DO, I GUESS,
THEY ABSORB THE WATER VAPOR.
AND WHEN IT GETS REALLY FULL...
IT SEEMS AS IF IT STARTS TO
GET A LITTLE BIT LOWER.
SO, TVO KIDS, CHECK IT OUT,
YOU CAN MAKE A STORM IN A CUP
AND FIND OUT WHAT A
CLOUD LOOKS LIKE.
TRY IT OUT FOR YOURSELF AND
LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES
ON TVOKIDS.COM.
