[Wee, giggles]

A finger presses a “My Home, My Life” icon on a screen and starts a video.

[Upbeat music plays]

A girl with long black braids and a yellow shirt waves through an open window.

Natalie says, HI, I'M NATALIE AND I'M 12
YEARS OLD AND THIS IS MY HOME.
AND THAT'S MY FAMILY.

A tall boy with dark hair stands on stone steps outside of a two-story house. A woman with long blonde hair stands behind him, wearing a bright orange dress. A man in dark glasses stands beside her, wearing jeans and a shirt. He hugs Natalie when she rushes out of the house to stand with her family. Natalie’s father kisses her on the head.

Natalie says, HI. YOU WANT TO SEE MORE?
COME ON, COME IN.

The family walks into their house. Two small dogs follow them inside.

[Energetic music plays]

Green grass surrounds colourful animated houses and apartment buildings.

A girl says, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.
EVERYONE BELONGS.
A FAMILY IS A FAMILY,
NO MATTER WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE.

Children’s voices say, THIS IS MY HOME, MY LIFE.

Created by Rennata and Georgina Lopez.

Text reads “Natalie, My Mountain Home.”

A girl’s voice says, NATALIE, MY MOUNTAIN HOME.

[Energetic music plays]

Natalie says, I LIVE IN A HOME
WITH A MOUNTAIN BEHIND ME.

PEOPLE SAY MY HOUSE LOOKS LIKE
A CASTLE FROM THE OUTSIDE.
AND THIS IS MY HOUSE
WHERE I STAY WITH MY MOM,
MY DAD AND MY BROTHER.
AND THIS IS MY DINING ROOM.

Natalie stands beside a table with eight chairs.

Natalie says, YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING
WHY THE TABLE'S SO BIG.

WELL, IT'S BECAUSE
I'M THE YOUNGEST
OUT OF SIX SIBLINGS.

Natalie gestures at a long photo of ten people sitting in chairs.

Natalie says, FOUR OF THEM MOVED OUT,
BUT THEY ALWAYS COME TO VISIT.

SIBLING, SIBLINGS.
KEVIN, JOE, KENZIE,
KIKI, JORDAN.

I'M A REALLY GOOD
LITTLE SISTER.
I'M REALLY SKILLED.
I'M GOOD LOOKING,
I'M AMAZING.

Natalie smiles.

She says, PEOPLE SAY THE YOUNGEST
GETS WHATEVER THEY WANT,
WELL NOT REALLY FOR ME.

A photograph shows Natalie holds an infant.

Natalie says, I'M AN AUNT TO THIS
BEAUTIFUL NEPHEW, BODHI JACK.
I LOVE BEING AN AUNT.

AND THIS IS THE LIVING ROOM.
THIS IS WHERE WE SPEND
A GOOD PART OF OUR TIME.

Natalie high fives her dad sitting on the couch.

Natalie says, MY DAD IS REALLY CHILL.
JUST SPENDING TIME
WITH HIM IN GENERAL,
I LOVE SPENDING
TIME WITH MY DAD.

HEY JORDAN.

Jordan refuses her high five.

[Boing]

Natalie says, MY BROTHER JORDAN,
LET ME TELL YOU.
HE HAS LIKE HIS MOMENTS
WHERE HE WANTS TO BE ALONE.
AND I HAPPEN TO BUG HIM.

APPARENTLY JORDAN'S
TOO COOL FOR HIGH FIVES.

MY BROTHER'S A REALLY NICE
PERSON WHEN HE WANTS TO BE.

An animated cat sits on the couch beside Jordan.

[Meow]

Natalie says, HE CAN BE MOODY.

Jordan says, WHAT?

Natalie says, WHAT?

Natalie walks into the kitchen.

Natalie says, THIS IS MY KITCHEN WHERE
I USUALLY COME HERE
FOR SNACKS THAT MY MOM MAKES.

HEY MOM.

Natalie’s mother says, HEY SWEET CAKE.

Natalie’s mother wraps an arm around Natalie’s shoulder and kisses the top of her head.

Natalie says, MY MOM'S COOL.
SHE IS A NICE PERSON.
I LIKE WHEN IT'S JUST LIKE,
US IN THE HOUSE.

I CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW
YOU GUYS MY ROOM!

Natalie runs up stairs and sits on a bed covered with a pink blanket.

She says, I AM SO EXCITED TO
SHOW YOU GUYS MY ROOM.

Natalie points to a orange fabric wall hanging with and yellow and green embroidered circle in the centre
.
She says, MY FRIEND BROOKLYN GOT ME
THIS WHEN SHE WENT TO MEXICO.
IT MADE ME FEEL
COMFORTABLE BECAUSE IT
REMINDED ME OF AFRICA.
IT'S A BEAUTIFUL SUNSET COLOUR.

Natalie rests her elbow on a transparent dress mannequin.

She says, AND THEN THIS.
I LIKE TO PUT DRESSES ON IT,
PUT SHOES ON THE BOTTOM.
IF THIS HAD A HEAD
I WOULD PUT A WIG ON IT.

An animated head appears on the mannequin.

[Boing, boing]

Natalie gests to medals and trophies on top of a dresser.

She says, AND THEN,
MY MEDALS AND MY TROPHIES.
I'M A VERY SPORTY PERSON.
I PLAY SOCCER, HOCKEY,
SNOWBOARDING, SKIING.

THIS IS A HOCKEY TROPHY.
I LET PEOPLE TOUCH THIS ONE,
BUT IT'S REALLY HEAVY,
SO I DON'T THINK
THEY'RE REALLY GONNA.
AND A LOT OF MY FRIENDS
ARE WEAK, SO...

YOU READY TO SEE
THE BEST VIEW OF THE HOUSE?

Natalie runs up another staircase to a room in a turret.

She says, THIS IS THE BEST VIEW.
WHEN IT'S ACTUALLY
CLEAR OUTSIDE,
YOU CAN SEE
THE MOUNTAINS FROM HERE.

Natalie wears all of her medals at the same time. She winks.

Natalie says, YO!

[Upbeat music plays]

Natalie says, I WAS ADOPTED
FROM SOUTH AFRICA.
MY BROTHER JORDAN WAS ADOPTED
A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER ME,
ALSO FROM SOUTH AFRICA.

Natalie points to a photograph of her with two of her older brothers.

She says, THAT'S KENZIE
AND THEN THAT'S
KEVIN AND THAT'S ME.

She holds up a photo of herself as a toddler.

Natalie says, AND THERE'S A PICTURE
OF ME DANCING
BECAUSE THEN I STARTED TO DANCE
AND I REALLY ENJOYED IT.

[Beep]

Natalie says, JORDAN AND I ARE
THE ONLY TWO SIBLINGS
LEFT IN THE HOUSE.
THE OTHER ONES
HAVE MOVED AND LEFT.
BUT LUCKILY WE ALWAYS
GET TO CHAT WITH THEM.

Kenzie appears on a tablet screen. He wears a baseball hat over his black hair. Beside him sits a blonde-haired woman with a ponytail.

Kenzie says, HI FROM VANCOUVER, NATALIE!

Natalie says, HI KENZIE.

WE'RE HOPING TO COME HOME
AND VISIT YOU SOON
AT CHRISTMAS TIME,
WITH JERICHO AND KELLY.

The blonde-haired woman hugs a dog.

Natalie says, THAT'S GOOD.

Kenzie says, WE LOVE YOU, SEE YOU SOON.

Natalie waves and says, GOODBYE!

MY OLDER SIBLINGS
LIVE PRETTY FAR AWAY.
BUT THEY TRY THIER HARDEST
TO COME AND VISIT.

A woman with light brown hair sits beside a man with black hair as they wave from the tablet screen.

Kaitlin says, HEY NATALIE, IT'S KAITLIN AND
VIC CALLING FROM KENTVILLE.

Natalie says, HI KIKI!

Kaitlin says, JUST WANTING TO CHECK IN
AND SEE HOW THINGS ARE GOING.

Natalie says, GOOD.

Kaitlin says, LOVE YOU.

Vic says, TAKE CARE.

Kaitlin says, BYE.

Natalie blows them a kiss.

[Kiss noise]

Natalie smiles and says, LOVES AND KISSES.

[Whoosh]

[Ukulele music plays]

Natalie plays a canoe oar like a guitar.

An animated drawing of Natalie’s house appears on the tablet screen.

She says, I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN.
A LOT OF TOURISTS COME TO SKI.

I WISH THERE WAS
MORE BLACK PEOPLE.
AT OUR SCHOOL THERE'S
THREE BLACK PEOPLE.
ME, MY BROTHER AND MY
BROTHER'S FRIEND DANTE.

WHEN I GO SOMEWHERE,
PEOPLE ALWAYS ASK ME
WHY ARE YOUR PARENTS
WHITE AND YOU BROWN?
I ALWAYS HAVE TO SAY,
IT'S A LONG STORY.
IT JUST HAS TO DO
WITH ME BEING ADOPTED.

IT'S KIND OF ANNOYING
BECAUSE WE GET LOOKED AT
WHENEVER WE WALK
DOWN THE STREET.

Natalie holds a carved wooden giraffe.

She says, THIS GIRAFFE WE GOT
IN SOUTH AFRICA.

I STARTED LEARNING
ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA
BECAUSE I'VE ALWAYS WANTED
TO GO BACK TO SOUTH AFRICA
AND SEE WHAT'S GOING ON THERE.

AND THEN EVER SINCE THAT
I'VE BEEN TRYING TO LEARN
THE LANGUAGE AGAIN.

Natalie holds up two books.

She explains, THESE BOOKS ARE HELPING ME
TO SPEAK FLUENT XHOSA AGAIN.
WE HAVE LIKE A LOT
OF CLICKS IN IT.

INSTEAD OF SAYING XHOSA,
IT'S [speaks Xhosa].

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW
I SAY HELLO,
IT'S MOLO.

I WAS TRYING TO GET MY BROTHER
TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE
SO WE COULD TALK
TO EACH OTHER
AND OUR PARENTS WOULD HAVE
NO IDEA WHAT WE WERE SAYING.
HE WOULDN'T DO THAT.

FOR FUN I LIKE TO HANG WITH
MY FAMILY AND PLAY HOCKEY.

Natalie and Jordan play hockey in their driveway with their parents.

She says, WE'RE JUST PLAYING
PARENTS AGAINST KIDS.

HOCKEY IS PROBABLY MY
FAVOURITE WINTER SPORT.
I'VE BEEN PLAYING
FOR ABOUT FIVE YEARS
AND I'VE BEEN ON TWO TEAMS.
AND I'M PRETTY
AWESOME AT IT.

Natalie nods.

She says, IF I WERE TO SPEAK TO
ALL THE GIRLS OUT THERE
WHO WANT TO PLAY HOCKEY,
GO FOR IT.

YOU MEET NEW PEOPLE
AND YOU GET TO HAVE AS MUCH FUN
AS YOU WANT ON THE ICE.

I PERSONALLY THINK
I COULD BEAT JORDAN
IN A GAME OF HOCKEY.

MY MOM'S GOOD
AT HOCKEY ON GROUND.
SHE'S NOT THE BEST ON ICE.

Natalie’s mother takes a shot on net.

Natalie’s mother says, OH!

Natalie says, MY DAD'S PRETTY GOOD.
HE'S ACTUALLY GREAT.

Natalie’s father takes a shot on net.

Natalie says, I LOVE MY FAMILY BECAUSE
THEY'RE REALLY SUPPORTIVE
AND LIKE, THEY'RE
ACTUALLY THERE FOR EACH OTHER.

Natalie shoot into the net. Text reads “Goal.”

Voices cheer, GOAL!

Natalie says, THE COOLEST THING WITH MY
FAMILY IS THAT EVERYONE
IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

Natalie, Jordan, and their parents squish together on the couch.

Natalie says, THERE'S NOT TWO
OF US THE EXACT SAME,
WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT
PERSONALITIES.

[Laughter]

Natalie sits on a porch with her mother, father, and brother.

Natalie says, THANK YOU FOR LEARNING
ABOUT MY HOME AND MY LIFE.

The family waves and says, BYE!

I'M A REALLY GOOD SWIMMER,
HOCKEY PLAYER,
SURFER, SKATEBOARDER,
TENNIS-ER, GOLFER,

I HAVEN'T GOLFED
BUT I'M PRETTY GOOD AT IT.

I'M GOOD AT
EVERYTHING I CAN DO.
