Wearing a mask, Akin walks in his room.
Akin is in his early teens, with slightly long braided brown hair and wears jeans and a yellow sweater.
Akin's room is full of colourful furniture, has different colour walls, a black and white checkered floor, pink curtains, and a neon sign that reads "Feelings" behind a couch.
He says OH HEY, IT'S ME AKIN.
THE HOST OF HOW DO YOU FEEL?
I'M SURE YOU'RE FEELING A LOT
THESE DAYS.
WE ALL ARE, AND THAT'S OKAY.
I WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT MY
FRIENDS AND I FILMED THE SHOW
BEFORE THE PANDEMIC, SO EVEN
THOUGH WE'RE NOT WEARING MASKS,
OR PHYSICALLY DISTANCING, IT'S
STILL VERY IMPORTANT.
SO IF YOU'RE IN A SITUATION
WHERE YOU NEED TO
PHYSICALLY DISTANCE, BUT YOU
CAN'T, PUT ON YOUR MASK.
IT'LL HELP KEEP YOU AND YOUR
FRIENDS SAFE.
WHICH FEELS GREAT!
ENJOY THE SHOW!
In animation, the opening of the show rolls.
As the sun comes up between the mountains, colourful letters with different mood facial expressions form the name of the show. It reads "How do you feel?"
A song goes SOME DAYS YOU MIGHT BE HAPPY
AND SOME DAYS YOU MIGHT BE MAD
OTHER DAYS THEY START OFF
RIGHT
BUT THEN YOU WENT UPSET
BUT IT'S OKAY
CUZ WE WANNA KNOW
HOW DO YOU FEEL?
YEAH, HOW DO YOU FEEL?
(music plays)
Akin plays with his dog Patty in his room and says WHO'S A GOOD GIRL? WHO'S A GOOD
GIRL?
YOU'RE A GOOD GIRL.
YOU'RE LOOKING AT ONE HAPPY DOG.
BUT IF YOU POPPED INTO THE
FEELINGS ZONE TWO HOURS AGO
YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN A SAD PUP.
SEE WE HAD TO GO TO THE VET AND
SHE DID NOT WANT TO GO.
BUT SHE BRAVED HER
WAY THROUGH IT.
AND NOW SHE'S PLEASED AS PUNCH.
AN EMOTIONALLY PAINFUL
EXPERIENCE CAN
MAKE US SAD OR UPSET.
BUT SOMETIMES THAT EXPERIENCE
CAN MAKE US PROUD
OR EVENTUALLY HAPPY.
TAKE MY GOOD PAL VICKY.
SHE STUCK UP FOR SOMEONE WHO WAS
BEING CALLED NAMES.
SHE FELT UPSET THAT SHE HAD TO
GET IN THE MIDDLE
OF THE FIGHT.
BUT GLAD THAT SHE STUCK UP FOR
SOMEONE AT THE SAME TIME.
HERE TAKE A LISTEN.
(music plays)
An animation rolls as Akin tells the story.
Akin says ONE DAY AT RECESS, VICKY NOTICED
THAT SOMEONE
WAS BEING CALLED A MEAN NAME.
IF SHE WAS THAT PERSON
BEING CALLED NAMES, SHE FELT
LIKE SHE WOULD BE UPSET.
VICKY TOLD THE NAME CALLER
TO STOP.
BUT THEY DIDN'T.
VICKY AGAIN TOLD HER CLASSMATE
TO STOP.
WHICH MADE THEM ANGRY.
SO THEY HIT VICKY.
VICKY FELT LIKE CRYING WHEN SHE
WAS HIT.
THAT SHE STUCK UP
FOR SOMEONE IN NEED.
(music plays)
Akin says VICKY'S STORY REALLY
INSPIRED ME.
NOW I'M GOING TO HARNESS THAT
INSPIRATION AND TURN
IT INTO FEELING-SPIRATION.
WHICH IS A WORD I JUST MADE UP.
IT MEANS I'M GOING TO TALK TO BY
BUDDY DUANE,
ABOUT VICKY'S FEELINGS.
SO DUANE, HOW DID THAT
MAKE YOU FEEL?
He meets with Duane in his back yard.
Duane is in his thirties, with short straight black hair and wears beige trousers, a purple T-shirt and an unbuttoned gray shirt.
Duane says WHEN IT COMES TO BULLYING,
PEOPLE OFTEN THINK ABOUT
THE PERSON WHO CHOOSES
TO BULLY
AND THE PERSON WHO'S
BEING BULLIED.
IN ADDITION TO THE BULLY
AND THE VICTIM
THERE ARE PEOPLE KNOWN
AS BYSTANDERS.
BYSTANDERS ARE PEOPLE
WHO ARE INVOLVED
BECAUSE THEY WITNESS
BULLYING.
IN THIS CASE VICKY WAS
A BYSTANDER.
Akin says SO IT SEEMED LIKE VICKY PUT
HERSELF IN HER CLASSMATE'S
SHOES AND DIDN'T LIKE HOW THE
NAME CALLING MUST HAVE FELT.
Duane says WELL VICKY WAS SENSITIVE
TOWARDS OTHER PEOPLE'S
FEELINGS WHEN SHE SAID SHE
DIDN'T LIKE THAT PEOPLE
WERE BEING CALLED
MEAN NAMES.
SHE SHOWED EMPATHY WHEN SHE
SAID IF SOMEONE WERE CALLING
HER NAMES SHE WOULD FEEL
UPSET AND THEN SHE SAID
SHE WAS PROUD OF HERSELF
BECAUSE SHE STUCK UP
FOR SOMEONE.
AND LET'S REMEMBER THAT SHE
DIDN'T EVEN REFER TO THIS PERSON
AS A FRIEND. SHE JUST SAW THAT
SOMEONE NEEDED HELP.
AMAZING, THE BYSTANDER PLAYS
A CRITICAL ROLE IN MAKING SURE
THAT BULLYING DOESN'T CONTINUE.
Akin says UNFORTUNATELY, VICKY
GOT HIT WHEN
SHE KEPT ON TRYING
TO HELP.
Duane says VICKY SHOWED A TREMENDOUS
AMOUNT OF COURAGE WHEN
SHE WAS TRYING TO STAND
UP FOR ANOTHER PERSON
WHEN I'M SURE MANY OTHER PEOPLE
WOULD HAVE EITHER WALKED AWAY
OR PRETENDED LIKE THAT HADN'T
SEEN ANYTHING,
OUT OF FEAR THAT THEY MIGHT
BE BULLIED.
Akin says SHOULD YOU ALWAYS TRY
AND STOP BULLYING
WHEN YOU SEE IT?
Duane says LET'S BE CLEAR, YOU
SHOULD NEVER PUT
YOURSELF IN A POSITION
WHERE YOU CAN
GET HURT.
IF YOU FEEL SAFE ENOUGH
TO SPEAK UP ABOUT BULLYING
THEN GREAT, I ENCOURAGE YOU
TO SUPPORT YOUR FRIENDS.
BUT IF YOU DON'T FEEL SAFE
OR YOU'VE TRIED SPEAKING
UP AND IT HASN'T WORKED,
THEN THAT'S WHEN
YOU MAY WANNA SPEAK TO
AN ADULT YOU CAN TRUST
LIKE A PARENT, OR A GUARDIAN
OR A TEACHER
TO GET THE SUPPORT THAT
YOU MIGHT NEED.
SPEAKING TO AN ADULT CAN
GO A LONG WAY TO
MAKING SURE THAT BULLYING
DOESN'T CONTINUE.
Akin says VICKY'S A GREAT FRIEND
JUST LIKE YOU.
He grabs a football and says HEY! GO LONG.
Duane runs and says I'M OPEN!
Akin says LONGER, LONGER.
LONGER.
(music plays)
[FANFARE]
(music plays)
[LAUGHTER]
In the basement, Akin plays a board game with his friends.
Akin says WHOA, AHH, AHH! URRGGGHH!
TEN LOSSES IN A ROW!
I NEED A BREAK, PLUS I WANNA
TALK TO YOU GUYS
ABOUT VICKY'S STORY.
HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT HER
SITUATION ON THE SCHOOL YARD?
Lily is around 11, with long straight blond hair and wears jeans and an off white seater.
She says WELL IT MAKES ME REALLY
PROUD OF HER.
WE DON'T SEE THAT A LOT
THESE DAYS.
SOME KIDS JUST DON'T LIKE TO
STAND UP FOR OTHER PEOPLE.
Mahika is around 10, with long straight brown hair with bangs and wears a denim jacket.
She says I JUST FELT THAT SHE
WAS SUPER STRONG, EVEN THAT
SHE GOT HIT.
BUT SHE STILL DID THE RIGHT
THING FOR SOMEONE.
Akin says WHY DO YOU THINK SOMEONE WOULD
CALL ANOTHER PERSON
A RUDE NAME?
Nikita is around 10, with short straight brown hair and wears gray trousers and a blue shirt.
He says I'M MAYBE THEY'RE JEALOUS
OR SOMETHING AND THE PERSON
THAT'S GETTING BULLIED HAS
SOMETHING WHAT THE
BULLY DOESN'T HAVE.
Mahika says MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE THEY JUST
THINK THAT THEY'RE STRONGER
AND THOSE PEOPLE ARE WEAK SO
THEY JUST BULLY THEM.
Akin says HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE CALLED A
MEAN NAME OR WORD?
Mahika says IT FEELS LIKE YOU JUST
WANT TO SAY STOP!
Nikita says BUT IF YOU GET CALLED STUPID OR
DUMB, IT MAKES YOU
BELIEVE THAT YOU'RE STUPID.
Lily says WELL OBVIOUSLY IT
MAKES YOU FEEL
REALLY UPSET AND LIKE HE SAID,
ONCE YOU HEAR IT
A COUPLE OF TIMES YOU START TO
BELIEVE IT.
BUT THAT'S REALLY NOT THE TRUTH.
Akin says IF YOU SAW SOMEBODY GETTING
CALLED A RUDE NAME,
WHAT COULD YOU DO?
Mahika says WELL I THINK IF THEY WERE
BULLYING SOMEONE ELSE
I WOULD SAY 'STOP!' SUPER LOUD
THAT EVERYBODY COULD HEAR
FROM THE PLAYGROUND.
AND THEN THOSE PEOPLE, THOSE
BULLIES WON'T BE ABLE TO
FIGHT BECAUSE THEY'LL BE SO MANY
PEOPLE WATCHING THEM.
Lily says I THINK I WOULD DEFINITELY STAND
UP FOR THAT PERSON FIRST
AND IF THAT WASN'T WORKING THEN
I WOULD DEFINITELY GO TELL
AN ADULT THAT'S AROUND, LIKE IF
I WAS AT SCHOOL
I COULD GO TELL A TEACHER.
Akin says IF VICKY WERE HERE, WHAT WOULD
YOU TELL HER?
Mahika says I WOULD TELL HER THAT IF
I, IF SHE WAS HERE
I WOULD BE HER FRIEND AND
I WOULD ASK HER IF
SHE COULD BE MY FRIEND, WOULD
SHE HELP SOMEONE IN NEED
AND I WOULD BE HER FRIEND WHO
ARE STRONG TOO.
Nikita says I WOULD TELL VICKY THAT
YOU DID THE RIGHT THING.
I AM PROUD OF VICKY BECAUSE
SHE WAS BEING AN UP STANDER
AND NOT A BYSTANDER.
Lily says I WOULD TELL VICKY THAT SHE
DEFINITELY DID THE RIGHT THING.
THAT MAYBE NEXT TIME WITH THAT
SAME BULLY OR EVEN A
DIFFERENT BULLY, MAYBE GO GET
A TEACHER
TO TRY NOT TO GET HURT
NEXT TIME.
Akin says GREAT JOB GUYS!
ALRIGHT WHO'S NEXT?
Nikita says ME.
Akin says I'M DUE FOR A WIN.
Nikita says WHO DOES IT FEEL TO GET TEN
LOSSES IN A ROW?
Akin says OKAY, WOW. I BETTER
WIN THIS TIME.
(music plays)
Back in his room, Akin says OOOF, I'M WORRIED ABOUT
SOMETHING.
OKAY... I'M WORRIED ABOUT
TWO THINGS.
OKAY, BUSTED!
I CAN'T EVEN COUNT MY WORRIES.
WHEN I HAVE ONE OF THOSE DAYS...
OR WEEKS... OR MONTHS, I MAKE
A WORRY WALL.
I WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING I'M
WORRIED ABOUT
AND PUT THEM ON THE WALL.
(music plays)
He sticks post-its on the wall with all his worries and says AFTER IT'S DONE I SPEND TEN
MINUTES, ONLY TEN,
TO LET MY WORRIES HAVE THE
TIME OF DAY.
(music plays)
He tears and crumples all then stomps on all the sticky notes.
[CLOCK TICKING]
He says AHH, ALL DONE.
NOW HERE'S THE BEST PART.
TAKING DOWN THE WALL!
RAAA! RAA!
NOW THAT MY WORRIES ARE
CRUMPLED,
I CAN GET ON WITH
MY DAY.
THANKS WORRY WALL.
(music plays)
Back at the basement, Akin says PATTY HAD A BATH.
SHE DIDN'T WANT TO BUT SHE
GRITTED HER TEETH
AND GOT THROUGH IT.
SPEAKING OF BRAVE, THANK YOU
VICKY FOR SHARING YOUR STORY.
AND TEACHING US THAT SOMETIMES
SOMETHING THAT MAKES US UPSET,
IS STILL WORTH DOING.
OH, PATTY, THE DOGGY DENTIST
CALLED.
SHE SAID THAT SHE CAN FIT
YOU IN TODAY.
[DOG BARKING]
Patty runs away.
Akin says PATTY, IT'S JUST A CHECK UP!
IT'S JUST A CHECK UP!
COME ON!
