(music plays)
Wearing a mask, Akin walks in his room.
Akin is in his early teens, with slightly long braided brown hair and wears jeans and a yellow sweater.
Akin's room is full of colourful furniture, has different colour walls, a black and white checkered floor, pink curtains, and a neon sign that reads "Fellings" behind a couch.
He says OH HEY, IT'S ME AKIN.
THE HOST OF HOW DO YOU FEEL?
I'M SURE YOU'RE FEELING A LOT
THESE DAYS.
WE ALL ARE, AND THAT'S OKAY.
I WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT MY
FRIENDS AND I FILMED THE SHOW
BEFORE THE PANDEMIC, SO EVEN
THOUGH WE'RE NOT WEARING MASKS,
OR PHYSICALLY DISTANCING, IT'S
STILL VERY IMPORTANT.
SO IF YOU'RE IN A SITUATION
WHERE YOU NEED TO
PHYSICALLY DISTANCE, BUT YOU
CAN'T, PUT ON YOUR MASK.
IT'LL HELP KEEP YOU AND YOUR
FRIENDS SAFE.
WHICH FEELS GREAT!
ENJOY THE SHOW!
In animation, the opening of the show rolls.
As the sun comes up between the mountains, colourful letters with different mood facial expressions form the name of the show. It reads "How do you feel?"
A song goes SOME DAYS YOU MIGHT BE HAPPY
AND SOME DAYS YOU MIGHT BE MAD
OTHER DAYS THEY START OFF
RIGHT
BUT THEN YOU WENT UPSET
BUT IT'S OKAY
CUZ WE WANNA KNOW
HOW DO YOU FEEL?
YEAH, HOW DO YOU FEEL?
(music plays)
Akin sits at his desk and tries to write a letter to his dog.
He says DEAR PATTY, NOPE THAT'S NOT IT.
DEAREST PATTY, NO!
[GROAN]
[PAPER CRUMPLES]
Akin says DEAREST DARLING DOGGY PATTY, I'M
SORRY I RAISED MY VOICE
AT YOU AND MADE YOU FEEL
SCARED...
THAT'S A GOOD START.
I'M WRITING AN APOLOGY LETTER TO
MY DOG PATTY.
SEE I WAS FEELING REALLY
STRESSED ABOUT A TEST
COMING UP, AND I RAISED MY
VOICE AT HER.
NOW I FEEL B-A-D, BAD ABOUT IT!
He pours a liquid in a volcano game and says SOMETIMES OUR MINDS ARE LIKE A
VOLCANO.
AND WHEN WE FEEL ANGRY OR
STRESSED,
THAT VOLCANO CAN ERUPT.
(music plays)
[RUMBLE]
Akin says AND THEN WE'RE NOT NICE TO THE
PEOPLE OR PETS WE CARE ABOUT.
WHEN THE VOLCANO CALMS DOWN, WE
FEEL BAD FOR THE THINGS
WE'VE SAID OR DONE.
MY FRIEND KB KNOWS WHAT I'M
TALKING ABOUT.
HE SAID I COULD SHARE HIS STORY.
An animation rolls as Akin tells the story.
Akin says SOMETIMES WHEN KB GETS INTO
TROUBLE,
HE GETS ANGRY AT HIS MOM.
KB MIGHT SLAM A DOOR...
[HARD DOOR SLAM]
OR YELL,
[FAST SCREAM]
BUT HE FEELS BAD AFTERWARDS.
ONE TIME HE WAS SENT TO
HIS ROOM.
MADE HIS MOM FEEL,
HE STARTED TO CRY.
KB TRIES HIS BEST NOT TO GIVE
HIS MOM ATTITUDE.
BUT IT STILL HAPPENS SOMETIMES.
ARE HURTING HIS MOM.
Akin plays ping pong with Duane in the backyard.
Duane is in his thirties, with short straight black hair and wears beige trousers, a green T-shirt and an unbuttoned blue and black plaid shirt.
Akin says catches the ball and says I GOT IT!
THANKS FOR SHARING THAT KB.
IT'S HARD WHEN YOU CAN'T CONTROL
YOUR FEELINGS
AND YOU GIVE PEOPLE MAXIMUM
'TUDE'.
BUT IT'S PRETTY COOL THAT KB
COULD BE HONEST
ABOUT HIS FEELINGS.
RIGHT DUANE?
[WHIP WHOOSH]
Duane says RIGHT AKIN.
KB HAS SHOWN A LOT OF
MATURITY.
ANYTIME WE CAN ACKNOWLEDGE OUR
BEHAVIOUR AND RECOGNIZE HOW IT
MIGHT IMPACT OTHER PEOPLE, WE
PUT OURSELVES IN A POSITION
TO LEARN AND TO GROW.
Akin says WHAT ELSE CAN KB LEARN?
Duane says KB MENTIONED THAT HE'S WORRIED
ABOUT HIS MOM
AND I'M WONDERING HOW HE
MIGHT FEEL ABOUT TALKING
TO HER ABOUT THAT.
COMMUNICATION CAN BE A GREAT WAY
TO HELP OTHERS UNDERSTAND
HOW WE FEEL AND IT MIGHT HELP US
TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THEM TOO.
Akin says WHAT'S AN EXAMPLE OF GOOD
COMMUNICATION?
Duane says WELL IF KB'S FEELING ANGRY AND
HE NEEDS SOME SPACE,
AND HIS MOM ACKNOWLEDGES THAT,
THAT'S EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION.
OR IF KB'S MOM FEELS LIKE
THERE'S TOO MUCH ATTITUDE
COMING FROM KB AND SHE'D
LIKE SOME MORE RESPECT,
AND KB ACKNOWLEDGES THAT,
THAT'S EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION TOO.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION MIGHT
LEAD TO LESS FRUSTRATION
AND MAYBE EVEN LESS CONFLICT
MOVING FORWARD.
Akin says IT SEEMS LIKE GETTING MAD AT HIS
MOM MAKES KB FEEL BAD.
SHOULD WE FEEL BAD ABOUT
BEING ANGRY?
Duane says THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
WRONG WITH FEELING ANGRY.
IT'S AN EMOTION AND WE ALL
EXPERIENCE IT AT
ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.
WHAT'S IMPORTANT IS HOW WE
CHOOSE TO EXPRESS
THOSE FEELINGS.
I WONDER HOW KB MIGHT FEEL
LETTING PEOPLE KNOW
IF HE NEEDS SOME TIME AND SOME
SPACE, WHEN HE'S FEELING ANGRY.
SOMETIMES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
CAN HELP TOO.
SO EXERCISE, SPORTS, EVEN
SCREAMING INTO A PILLOW,
ARE ALL HEALTHY AND SAFE WAYS TO
WORK THROUGH OUR FEELINGS.
Akin says THANKS DUANE, GAME ON!
Duane says GAME ON!
(music plays)
[FANFARE]
In the basement, Akin and his friends scream into a pillow.
They say AHHHHH!
AHHHHH!
Akin says THE FEELINGS GANG AND I
FELT OUR VOLCANO BRAINS
BUBBLING AND WE NEEDED SOMETHING
TO DESTRESS.
SO EVERYONE, NOW THAT YOU'VE
RELEASED THE BEAST,
HOW DID KB'S STORY
MAKE YOU FEEL?
Curtis is around 8, with short straight red hair and wears beige trousers and a blue and orange sweater.
He says I FELT SORRY FOR KB
BECAUSE HE REALLY THOUGHT
HE HURT HIS MOM'S FEELINGS.
Calvin is around 10, with slightly long straight light brown hair and wears gray trousers and a blue sweater.
He says IT MADE ME FEEL SAD
BECAUSE, KB, UM, WAS SHOWING
A LOT OF EMOTION TO HIS MOM
AND THAT MADE HIM
EMOTIONAL.
Akin says TALIA, WHAT DOES GETTING
ANGRY FEEL LIKE?
Talia is around 10, with short braided brown hair and wears jeans and a patterned yellow sweater.
She says OKAY SO, IT'S BASICALLY LIKE
I WANNA
PUNCH SOMETHING, I DON'T
REALLY CARE WHAT IT IS
I JUST WANT TO LET MY ANGER
OUT AND PUNCH SOMETHING.
Curtis says IT FEELS LIKE YOU'RE GETTING
REALLY MAD
AND THEN IT FEELS LIKE YOU'RE
INSIDES ARE GONNA EXPLODE.
Akin says WHY DO YOU THINK
WE GET ANGRY
AT OUR PARENTS
SOMETIMES?
Talia says OKAY SO FOR EXAMPLE, SAY YOUR
MOM OR DAD
WANTED YOU TO DO SOMETHING, BUT
THEN YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IT,
YOU GET MAD AT THEM, FOR TELLING
YOU TO DO IT AND YOU DON'T
WANT TO DO IT. ESPECIALLY IF
YOU'RE LIKE DOING
SOMETHING AND YOU'RE
JUST LAZY.
Calvin says BECAUSE, UM, THEY'LL GET MAD
AT US AND THEN YOU
ARE MAD AT THEM BECAUSE,
SOMETIMES IT JUST BACKFIRES.
Akin says WHEN YOU START TO
FEEL ANGRY
WHAT DO YOU DO TO
CALM DOWN?
Curtis says I USUALLY TELL MY
PARENTS ABOUT IT
AND GO TO MY ROOM AND
UNDER THE COVERS.
Talia says I JUST SIT IN MY OLD
ROCKING CHAIR
IN MY ROOM, AND I SCREAM
IN A PILLOW.
AND THEN I COLLAPSE ON MY
BED AND READ A GOOD BOOK
AND POSSIBLY FALL ASLEEP.
Calvin says WHAT I USUALLY DO IF
MY PARENTS DO GET
MAD AT ME, I JUST GO UP
TO MY ROOM AND UM,
WAIT UNTIL IT ALL BLOWS
OVER.
AND THAT STRATEGY TAKES
A LONG TIME,
LIKE AROUND
30 MINUTES.
Akin says IT'S OKAY TO BE ANGRY
SOMETIMES, RIGHT GUYS?
Curtis says WHEN YOU'RE BEING ANGRY IT'S
JUST LIKE YOU'RE LETTING OUT
YOUR FEELINGS.
AND SOMETIMES YOU NEED
TO DO THAT,
IF YOU DON'T THEN YOU'LL BE
ANGRY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
Akin says IF KB WERE HERE, WHAT
WOULD YOU TELL HIM?
Curtis says I THINK, I WOULD TELL
HIM THAT I THINK
HE DID A GOOD JOB TRYING TO
NOT BE MAD AT HIS MOM
BUT I THINK HE COULD AT LEAST
TRY A LITTLE HARDER.
Talia says JUST TRY NOT TO GET THAT MAD,
BECAUSE IT COULD ALSO
HURT THE OTHER PERSON'S FEELINGS
AND DAMAGE THE RELATIONSHIP.
Calvin says IF KB WERE HERE I WOULD SAY
TO HIM JUST IF YOU GET MAD,
JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU DON'T
WANNA GET MAD.
AND UH, LET IT BLOW OVER.
Akin says GREAT WORK GUYS.
They all grab a pillow and scream into it.
They say AHHHHHHHHHHH!
(music plays)
Then back in his room, Akin says IT CAN BE HARD TO GET ALONG WITH
EVERYONE ALL THE TIME.
SOMETIMES WE YELL, SOMETIMES
WE LEAVE.
AND IT CAN MAKE US FEEL BAD.
WHEN THAT HAPPENS THERE'S A
MAGIC TRICK
THAT WE CAN USE TO TRY TO MAKE
THINGS BETTER!
I'LL SHOW YOU!
He shakes a magic wand and says ABARAKADALAGIZE.
[CHIMES]
HOW TO APOLOGIZE!
[HARP CHORD]
Smoke comes out of the magician's hat and a note inside reads "I'm sorry."
[COUGHS]
Akin says TURNS OUT THE MAGIC TRICK ISN'T
A TRICK AT ALL.
IT'S SOMETHING ANYONE CAN DO OR
SAY TO APOLOGIZE TO SOMEONE.
THE WORDS 'I'M SORRY' ARE
VERY POWERFUL.
THEY SHOW SOMEONE WE'RE SORRY
FOR HURTING THEM.
EVEN IF WE DIDN'T DO IT
ON PURPOSE.
WHEN WE SAY I'M SORRY TO
SOMEONE,
TELL THEM WHAT WE'RE SORRY FOR
AND REALLY MEAN IT.
WE'RE TELLING THAT PERSON THAT
WE RESPECT
AND CARE ABOUT THEM.
SOMETIMES SAYING I'M SORRY CAN
MAKE US CLOSER THAN EVER!
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL
MAGICAL!!
[CHIMES]
He puts on the hat and gets covered in confetti.
He says AHHH!
(music plays)
Now back in the basement, Patty plays with Akin's friends.
Akin says I'M HAPPY TO SAY THAT PATTY
ACCEPTED MY APOLOGY.
STILL, WE'VE DECIDED TO PAMPER
HER BECAUSE
SHE DESERVES IT.
I'M ALSO HAPPY THAT KB SHARED
HIS STORY.
AND I'M ALSO, ALSO HAPPY THAT
YOU STOPPED BY TODAY.
NOW IF YOU'LL EXCUSE ME,
I'VE GOTTA GO GIVE SOME
LOVE TO A DOG.
He pats the dog and says GOOD GIRL.
Music plays as the end credits roll.
