Transcript: What is Gravity?
A caption reads "TVO Kids presents."
An animation shows the solar system.
A theme song plays I LIVE ON EARTH
I LOOK TO THE SKY
SO MUCH WONDER
FILLS MY MIND
WE ARE SPACE KIDS
SPACE KIDS.
A child says WHAT IS GRAVITY?
[child's laughter]
A girl bounces on a trampoline.
(music plays)
A boy says IT'S A GOOD THING
THERE'S GRAVITY...
OR YOU WOULD JUST FLOAT
AWAY INTO SPACE!
A girl says GRAVITY IS THE FORCE THAT PULLS
YOU BACK DOWN TO EARTH
WHEN YOU JUMP.
EARTH'S GRAVITY IS WHAT KEEPS
US ON THE GROUND
The boy says JUST LIKE WHEN YOUR THROW
A BALL-
IT FALLS BACK DOWN TO EARTH.
ALL OBJECTS HAVE GRAVITY.
HOW MUCH GRAVITY AN OBJECT
HAS DEPENDS ON HOW HEAVY,
OR HOW MUCH MASS IT HAS.
THE MORE MASS AN OBJECT HAS,
THE MORE GRAVITY IT HAS.
AND THE CLOSER YOU ARE
TO THAT OBJECT,
THE STRONGER THE PULL
OF ITS GRAVITY.
THE EARTH IS MASSIVE, SO
IT HAS A LOT OF GRAVITY.
OUR MOON IS SMALLER,
SO THAT'S WHY IT GETS PULLED
INTO ORBIT AROUND THE EARTH.
AND EARTH GET PULLED INTO ORBIT
AROUND THE SUN.
An animation recreates the concepts mentioned.
The girl says HERE'S OUR SOLAR SYSTEM.
THE SUN IS AT THE CENTER.
AS PLANETS MOVE THROUGH SPACE,
THE SUN'S GRAVITY PULLS
THEM TOWARD IT.
The boy says IF THE SUN
SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED
EARTH AND THE OTHER PLANETS
WOULD TRAVEL OFF INTO SPACE.
The girl says GRAVITY IS LIKE THE GLUE THAT
HOLDS THE SOLAR SYSTEM TOGETHER
AND IT'S WHAT MAKES TRAMPOLINES
SO MUCH FUN!
The end credits roll.
The song plays I'M ON MY WAY,
ON MY WAY
TO OUTER SPACE.
