An animated blue sign that reads "Fish Talk with Leo" falls into the sea.

Leo is an animated blue and orange catfish. She swims near two tablets at the bottom of a lake.

Leo says IT'S
FISH TALK WITH LEO.
THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S ME, LEO,
INTERVIEWING THE EXPERTS AND
TAKING YOU
BEHIND THE SCENES OF ALL
THE AMAZING WORK
THAT'S HAPPENING AT
PARKS CANADA.
DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN BE A
SCIENTIST RIGHT NOW?
YEAH, RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND.
OKAY, WELL, MAYBE NOT
RIGHT THIS SECOND,
BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL
YOU'RE THROUGH UNIVERSITY.
YOU CAN BE A CITIZEN SCIENTIST!

Fast clips show kids doing experiments outdoors.

She continues AND ALL IT TAKES IS TO
SPEND SOME TIME
WORKING WITH A TEAM
FROM PARKS CANADA.
TIM HAS GOT A GREAT STORY ABOUT
HOW ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE,
NOT JUST SCIENTISTS,
BUT KIDS, TOO,
ARE HELPING THE INNER BAY OF
FUNDY ATLANTIC SALMON.

Tim is in his late fifties, with a white beard and matching hair. He wears a blue cap and a purple sport jacket.

Standing by a lake, Tim says MY NAME'S TIM ROBINSON,
AND I'M THE MANAGER OF THE
FORT FOLLY HABITAT
RECOVERY PROGRAM.
WE WORK ON BEHALF OF FORT FOLLY
FIRST NATIONS,
AND WE EMPLOY YOUTH,
ABORIGINAL AND NON-ABORIGINAL,
AND TRAIN THEM UP AS RIVER
TECHNICIANS, SALMON EXPERTS.

Leo says WOW!
HOW DID THIS
GREAT PROJECT GET STARTED?

Tim says WHEN IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE
ATLANTIC SALMON, HERE,
IN THE BAY OF FUNDY
WERE IN TROUBLE,
AND GOING TO BE LISTED AS AN
ENDANGERED SPECIES.
FUNDY NATIONAL PARK
CAME OVER TO VISIT
FORT FOLLY FIRST
NATION, AND SAID,
"WE'RE GOING TO BE
BUILDING A RECOVERY TEAM."
FORT FOLLY LEADERSHIP
WAS REALLY EAGER TO GET SOME
YOUNG PEOPLE TOGETHER,
AND GET THEM TRAINED UP
SO THAT THEY
COULD BE WORKING WITH
THE BIOLOGISTS
AND RESEARCHERS HERE AT FUNDY
NATIONAL PARK.

An animated map homes in on New Brunswick.

Leo says A WHOLE COMMUNITY
COMING TOGETHER TO
HELP THE ATLANTIC SALMON?
THAT'S FANTASTIC!

Jim says SALMON IS ONE OF THOSE SPECIES
IMPORTANT TO ALL CANADIANS.
AND IT'S ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO
THE FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE
ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
FROM THE PACIFIC,
TO THE ATLANTIC,
THEY FEED PEOPLE,
THEY FEED ANIMALS, AS WELL.
AND SOME OF NUTRIENTS THAT
ARE LEFT BEHIND
IN THE FRESH
WATER ENVIRONMENT,
FEED THE OTHER SMALL FISH,
AND THE BUGS,
AND THEN THE LARGER ANIMALS,
ALL THE WAY UP TO BEARS.

Leo says I KNEW THE SALMON WERE A
PRETTY SPECIAL FISH,
WHAT, WITH LIVING IN BOTH THE
OCEAN AND THE RIVERS.
BUT GREAT GILLS!
I HAD NO IDEA HOW
IMPORTANT THEY WERE
TO JUST ABOUT EVERY LIVING
CREATURE.
SO, HOW'S THE PROGRAM DOING?

Leo looks at a video of salmon swimming.

Jim says LAST YEAR,
70 ADULT SALMON RETURNED,
WHICH ISN'T A LOT COMPARED TO
THE HISTORIC NUMBERS,
BUT WAS MORE THAN THEY HAD SEEN
IN THE LAST 30 YEARS.
SO THAT'S ENCOURAGING.

Leo says HOLY CRAY FISH!
IT MUST BE AMAZING TO
BE INVOLVED IN
HELPING SUCH AN IMPORTANT FISH.

Jim says ABSOLUTELY.
IT'S BEEN A REAL PRIVILEGE TO BE
PART OF, YOU KNOW,
DOING WHAT WE CAN TO POTENTIALLY
RECOVER AN ENDANGERED SPECIES.
SALMON ARE THE KING OF FISHES.
THEIR PRESENCE IS SO IMPORTANT
TO ALL THE OTHER FISH,
AND THE ENTIRE WELL-BEING
OF THE RIVER.
THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN A VERY, VERY
IMPORTANT FISH,
NOT JUST TO PEOPLE,
BUT TO ALL THE CREATURES THAT
USE THE RIVER.
THEY WANT TO SEE THEM BACK.

Leo says THAT'S RIGHT, WE DO!
REMEMBER, FISH HEADS,
WITHOUT EVERYONE PITCHING IN,
THE INNER BAY OF FUNDY
ATLANTIC SALMON
MIGHT HAVE BECOME EXTINCT.
AND, NOW THAT WE KNOW HOW
IMPORTANT
ONE CREATURE IS TO THE FOOD WEB,
THERE'S NEVER BEEN A BETTER
TIME TO LEND A FIN.

A diagram shows the connections between different animals.

She continues I BET YOU THERE'S
A CREATURE IN YOUR AREA
THAT COULD USE SOME HELP.
CHECK OUT ALL THE GREAT CITIZEN
SCIENCE PROJECTS
YOU CAN BE A PART OF.
GRAB YOUR BOOTS,
ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES,
AND WORK ALONGSIDE
BIOLOGISTS AND RESEARCHERS
TO HELP THE CREATURES IN
YOUR COMMUNITY
NOT JUST SURVIVE,
BUT THRIVE.

(theme music plays)

The end credits roll.
