(Bright music plays)

A child says, WHEE!

(Giggling)

Text reads, tvokids + Fifth Ground Entertainment Original.

A bee buzzes over a title that reads, Leo’s Pollinators.

Leo says, IT'S ME, LEO!

Leo is a red and blue fish that swims at the bottom of a lake in front of two monitors with the Leo’s Pollinators logo displayed.

Leo says, THE EXPLORER CLUB
IS ON A NEW MISSION.

Text reads, Leo’s Pollinators Explorer’s Club. TVOkids Presents.

Leo says, WE'RE HELPING THE POLLINATORS,
THOSE AMAZING CREATURES
WHO MOVE POLLEN
FROM ONE PLANT TO ANOTHER.

Videos play of worms, bees, bats, butterflies, lemurs and moths.

Leo says, POLLEN IS THE STUFF
THAT HELPS MAKE OUR FRUITS,
VEGETABLES AND FLOWERS.
WITHOUT OUR POLLINATORS FLYING,
BUZZING AND SLITHERING AROUND,
WE'D ALL BE GOING HUNGRY,
EVEN ME!

A bee pollinates a pink flower. Text reads, ‘Nator Navigator.

Leo says, HOUSTEN AND CHLOE ARE IN THE
FIELD HELPING THE EXPERTS,
SO GRAB YOUR BOOTS
AND YOUR NET,
AND YOU CAN BE A POLLINHEAD
TOO.

The Leo’s Pollinators Explorer Club logo is displayed.

Leo says, BRRR! EVEN A CATFISH LIKE ME
CAN TELL THERE IS A CHILL
IN THE AIR.
UH, WATER.
EITHER WAY, THE WEATHER
IS CHANGING.
SO YOU MIGHT BE THINKING,
HEY, OUR EXPLORER CLUB
WORK IS DONE, RIGHT?
BUT NOPE!
TODAY I AM SENDING THE
POLLINHEADS ON A MISSION
TO HELP A SUPER SPRING
POLLINATOR.

Leo watches Chloe and Housten on a monitor. Chloe wears a blue Explorer’s Club shirt under a green jacket. Housten wears an orange Explorer’s Club shirt under a blue jacket.

Leo says, THE MASON BEE IS AT THE TOP
OF TODAY'S 'NATOR NAVIGATOR.
THE MASON BEE IS A NATIVE
SPECIES TO NORTH AMERICA.
IT IS SUPER DUPER FUZZY.
NOT JUST ON ITS BELLY,
NOT JUST ON ITS LEGS,
BUT EVERYWHERE!

Different videos show Mason bee’s around different flowers.

Leo says, BEING COVERED IN HAIR MEANS
IT GETS COVERED IN POLLEN
WHEN IT FLIES FROM FLOWER
TO FLOWER.
AND BEING SO HAIRY
MAKES THE MASON BEE
AN AWESOME POLLINATOR.
THERE LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES
OF MASON BEES.
SOME ARE NOT PICKY POLLINATORS,
AND WILL VISIT ANY OLD FLOWER.
BUT OTHERS, LIKE THE BLUE
ORCHARD MASON BEE,
REALLY LOVE FLOWERS
OF FRUIT TREES,
SO THEY'RE AMAZING
AT POLLINATING TREES
THAT GROW THINGS LIKE APPLES,
ALMONDS, PEACHES,
PLUMS, CHERRIES...
THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.

Leo looks at pictures of the different bees on the monitor.

Leo says, MASON BEES ARE ONE OF THE FIRST
BEES OUT THERE IN THE SPRING,
AND BECAUSE THEY ARE SUCH
GOOD POLLINATORS,
THEY COLLECT A LOT
OF POLLEN, REALLY QUICK,
AND GET THE GROWING SEASON
OFF TO A GREAT START.
THERE'S LOTS HUMANS CAN DO
TO HELP 'EM OUT.
SO TODAY THE POLLINHEADS
ARE JOINING TERRYLYNN BRANT
OF THE MOHAWK TURTLE CLAN,
IN THE MOHAWK SEEDKEEPER
GARDENS
ON SIX NATIONS
OF THE GRAND RIVER.

Chloe through a field with Terrylynn, who has long blond hair and bangs.

Terrylynn says, MY TRADITIONAL ROLE
AS A SEEDKEEPER
AMONG MY COMMUNITY IS
TO BASICALLY JUST ENSURE
THAT THE TRADITIONAL SEEDS
OF OUR PEOPLE,
THAT THEY'RE HEALTHY,
AND THEY'RE PURE,
AND THAT THEY MAKE IT THROUGH
TO THE NEXT GENERATION.

Text reads, Terrylynn Brant, Mohawk Seed Keeper Gardens, Mohawk Turtle Clan, SeedKeeper.

Terrylynn says, HERE AT MOHAWK SEEDKEEPER
GARDENS WE DO A LOT
TO KIND OF DEVELOP SOME
OF THE NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS
THAT WE HAVE.

Chloe says, THAT MAKES SENSE TO ME.
THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY
POLLINATORS
IF THERE WERE NO PLANTS
TO POLLINATE.

Terrylynn laughs.

She says, YEAH.

Chloe looks thoughtful.

She says, I THINK I HEAR SOME BUZZING.
COULD THAT BE THE MASON BEE
THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR?

Terrylynn says, IT'S POSSIBLE, OR IT COULD BE
MY OTHER FRIENDS, TOO.

She smiles. Chloe smiles and nods. A flower is purple.

Terrylynn says, SO THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE
INDIGENOUS FLOWERS,
IT'S IN WHAT WE CALL
THE MARROW FAMILY.
THIS PARTICULAR MARROW PLANT
IS AN INDIGENOUS
CAROLINIAN FLOWER, YOU CAN SEE
HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS.
IT'S PRETTY HARDY,
BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE
ALL THE OTHER FLOWERS ARE GONE.
AND SO THEREFORE IT'S A
FAVOURITE THAT HARBOURS
THE INDIGENOUS BEES,
LIKE OUR MASON BEES.

Chloe nods.

Terrylynn says, INDIGENOUS FLOWERS AND HERBS
ARE PLANTS THAT INSECTS,
PARTICULARLY BEES,
FEED OFF THEM
TO NOT JUST GIVE THEM
THEIR FOOD SOURCE,
BUT IT ALSO GIVES THEM
MEDICINE.

Chloe asks, MEDICINE FOR BEES?
I LIKE THIS PLANT.

She smiles.

In the lake, Leo says, WELCOME TO "WHAT'S THE BUZZ,"
WITH LEO.

Text reads, What’s the Buzz? With Leo.

Leo says, TODAY I AM BUZZING
ABOUT THE MARVELLOUS MASON BEE.
THE HONEYBEE MAY GET LOTS
OF ATTENTION
WHEN PEOPLE TALK
ABOUT POLLINATORS,
BUT THE MASON BEE IS A TRUE
LOCAL POLLINATING HERO.
IN FACE, ONLY 250 MASON BEES
CAN POLLINATE AN ENTIRE
APPLE ORCHARD.
A JOB THAT WOULD REQUIRE
THOUSANDS OF HONEYBEES.
WHILE THE WORLD DEFINITELY
NEEDS HONEYBEES TOO,
WE CANNOT FORGET TO CELEBRATE
AND PROTECT OUR LOCAL HEROES.

A bee climbs a yellow flower.

Leo says, SO I'M HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE
THE MASON BEE
IS GETTING THE EXPLORER CLUB
OUTSTANDING POLLINATOR AWARD.

A bee wears a prize ribbon.

Leo says, IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU GOT
THE RECOGNITION YOU DESERVE
AS A SUPERHERO POLLINATOR.
AND THAT'S THE BUZZ.

Terrylynn says, SO WE CAN MAKE
OUR OWN LITTLE NEST
FOR THE MASON BEE.

Chloe says, COOL!

She and Terrylynn walk alongside a pond.

Terrylynn says, SO THIS ECOSYSTEM HAS A LOT
OF COOL PLANTS IN IT
THAT THE MASON BEE
OR INDIGENOUS BEES
WILL COME TO LIVE IN.
INDIGENOUS POLLINATORS
WILL LOOK FOR PLANTS
THAT ACTUALLY HAVE LIKE,
A TUNNEL
OR HAVE A NICE STALK ON THEM.

Chloe asks, WOULD THOSE WORK AS TUNNELS
FOR THE MASON BEE?

She points to a plant near the pond.

Terrylynn says, YES, THE STALK OF THE CATTAIL
IS PERFECT TO BE CUT OFF
AND USED AS A NEST.

Text reads, Cattail (Bulrush).

Terrylynn asks, WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE ONE?

Chloe says, LET'S DO IT.

She carefully reaches for a cattail. She cuts the bottom of cattails and passes them to Terrylynn. Chloe and Terrylynn sit at a picnic table with the cattails.

Terrylynn says, SO NOW IT'S TIME TO MAKE
OUR MASON BEE NEST.
WE'RE GONNA BE CUTTING THESE,
AND WE'RE GONNA BE PLACING THEM
INSIDE THE WATER BOTTLE.

Terrylynn slides the end of a cattail stalk into a plastic water bottle that has the top cut off.

Terrylynn says, YOU CAN KIND USE THAT
AS YOUR GUIDE,
AND START CUTTING IT IN PIECES.

Chloe cuts the cattail stem with a pair of scissors so it fits the length of the water bottle.

Chloe asks, SO WOULD WE PUT THE NEST
RIGHT BY THE MUD?

Terrylynn says, THEY WOULD APPRECIATE IT,
SO IT DOESN'T TAKE 'EM
AS MUCH ENERGY.
THEY DON'T FLY THAT FAR,
SO THEY WANT THEIR RESOURCES
CLOSE TO WHERE THEY ARE.

She and Chloe add more cattail stems to the bottle.

Terrylynn says, MASON BEES, THEY WILL GATHER
ALL THAT SLIPPERY CLAY
DOWN AT THE POND, AND WILL
JUST SHOVE IT IN BETWEEN,
AND ANY PLACE WHERE THE COLD
WINTER AIR MIGHT BE COMING
INSIDE,
INTO-ACTUALLY, EVENTUALLY,
THEY CLOSE UP THEIR HOME
FOR THE BABY BEES TO BE BORN,
AND TO LIVE IN THERE.

Chloe says, AND A BLANKET FOR YOU.

She tucks the last cattail piece into the bottle.

Terrylynn says, GOOD, SO WE GOT IT PRETTY
TIGHT, SO THAT'S IT.

Chloe says, WHOA!

She looks at the cattail packed bottle.

Terrylynn says, THAT'S THE MASON BEE HOME.

Chloe says, ALL MY FRIENDS ARE SCARED
OF BEES,
AND THE MORE TIME I SPEND
WITH THEM ON MISSIONS,
I JUST LOVE THEM.
WHY WOULDN'T YOU DO EVERYTHING
YOU CAN TO PROTECT THEM?

A bee flies in front of Chloe.

Terrylynn says, SEE THAT?

Chloe gasps

Terrylynn says, HE HEARD-HE HEARD YOU!

She and Chloe laugh.

Chloe says, ALL RIGHT, TIME TO FIND
THE PERFECT SPOT.

Grass rustles as Terrylynn and Chloe walk up to the pond with their mason bee nest.

Terrylynn says, THIS LOOKS LIKE A GOOD
SPOT HERE.
HAVE IT POINTING DOWN SO
THE RAINWATER'S NOT GOING IN.

Chloe says, ALL RIGHT.

She tucks the water bottle nest horizontally between tree branches.

Terrylynn says, PERFECT.

Chloe dusts off her hands.

She asks, WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO?

Terrylynn says, WELL, THEY HAVE THE WATER
TO DRINK,
THEY HAVE THE CLAY TO HELP
BUILD THEIR HOME,
NOW I CAN SHOW YOU HOW TO
MAKE SOMETHING TO FEED THEM.

Chloe says, ALL RIGHT!

She looks across the pond and spots Housten.

Chloe calls, HEY! HOUSTEN! OVER HERE!

Chloe waves at Housten. Housten waves back.

He says, HI, CHLOE!

He meets up with Chloe and Terrylynn.

Chloe says, HEY, HOUSTEN.

Housten says, HI, CHLOE.
YOU DIDN'T THINK I'D MISS A
MISSION THIS AWESOME, DID YOU?

Chloe says, NEVER.

Terrylynn says, CHLOE, CAN YOU GET SOME CLAY?

Chloe says, YES!

Terrylynnsays, HOUSTEN, YOU'RE GONNA BE
THE SEED MAN.

Housten says, OOH, I LIKE THAT!

Terrylynn says, I LIKE TO HAVE ALL KINDS
OF PLANTS, AS MANY AS POSSIBLE.
THAT'S WHAT WE CALL
BIODIVERSITY.
THE MORE DIFFERENT KINDS
OF PLANTS,
THE BETTER FOR THE INSECTS
AND THE BEES TO FEED OFF OF.

Terrylynn stands in a large garden space with Housten.

She says, NOW THIS PARTICULAR PLANT HERE
IS CALLED A BLACK-EYED SUSAN.

A picture of a Black-Eyed Susan as a flower is displayed. The flower is yellow.

Terrylynn says, ALL'S WE HAVE TO DO IS COME
AND BREAK OFF THE HEAD,
SO WE JUST GET THAT NICE LITTLE
HEAD OF THE FLOWER.
GIVE IT A TRY.

Housten trims the heads of flowers off their stems with a pair of scissors. He collects them in a paper bag.

Leo says, WAIT, WHAT?
I THOUGHT HUMANS JUST BOUGHT
SEEDS FROM THE STORE.
YOU KNOW, IN THOSE ITTY-BITTY
PACKETS?
I NEVER ONCE THOUGHT ABOUT
HOW THE SEEDS
GET INTO THAT LITTLE PACKET!

Leo watches Housten collect the seeds on a monitor. Chloe shovels thick mud into a bucket.

Terrylynn says, I HAVE ANOTHER SET OF HANDS
HERE TO HELP US TODAY,
THIS IS MY GRANDDAUGHTER,
KAORI!

Text reads, Kaori Smith, Mohawk Seed Keeper Gardens, Mohawk Turtle Clan, Helper. Kaori is a young girl with blond hair and bangs. She sits at a picnic table between Terrylynn and Housten.

Chloe says, HI!

Housten says, HI, KAORI!

Kaori says, HELLO.

Terrylynn chuckles.

She says, IN EACH ONE OF THESE BAGS,
IS ALL THE BEAUTIFUL
POLLINATOR PLANTS THAT
WE WERE COLLECTING.
INDIGENOUS VARIETIES OF PLANTS.
SO THERE'S SOME CUP
FLOWER SEED, CHLOE.

Terrylynn hands Chloe a paper bag. Text reads, Cup Plant.

Terrylynn says, THIS IS A PURPLE ASTER SEED.

She hands Housten a bag. Text reads, Purple Aster.

Terrylynn says, THIS IS BLACK-EYED SUSAN SEED.

She hands Susan a bag. Text reads, Black-Eyed Susan.

Terrylynn says, WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO
IS TAKE YOUR SEED HEAD
AND JUST KINDA BREAK IT UP
INTO THE BOWL.

The three kids break up their seed heads with their hands over a large bowl.

Terrylynn says, KEEP BREAKING IT UP,
BREAKING IT UP.
THAT'S HOW WE GET ALL
THOSE LITTLE SEEDS.
NOW, WHO WANTS TO GET MUDDY?

Chloe and Housten say, ME!

They giggle.

Terrylynn asks, KAORI, YOU WANT TO GET MUDY?

Kaori says, NO.

Terrylynn says, OH, I LOVE MUD!
THIS IS THE BEST PART.

She pulls out the bucket of mud Chloe collected.

Chloe and Housten say, WHOA!

Kaori says, WHOA.

She sticks her hand in the mud.

Chloe says, YEAH!

Housten says, WHOA!

Kaori digs her hand in the mud. Terrylynn laughs.

She says, SHE JUST ATTACKS IT.

(Laughing)

Kaori says, NOW MIX IT.

Terrylynn says, AND START MIXING IT.

Kaori, Housten and Chloe mix mud with the seeds in the bowl.

They all say, OHHHH!

(Laughing)

Kaori says, IT'S SO SLIMY!

Terrylynn says, KEEP MUSHING.
IF THE SEEDS AREN'T COVERED
WITH SOIL,
THEY GET DRIED OUT,
THEY GET BURNED.
WE HAVE TO HAVE GOOD SEED
TO SOIL CONTENT.

Housten says, SO THE PLANTS HAVE A BETTER
CHANCE OF GROWING.

Chloe says, AND THE MORE PLANTS,
THE MORE POLLEN AND NECTAR
FOR THE MASON BEE.

Terrylynn says, NOW, TAKE IT AND ROLL IT
IN YOUR HANDS.

She and the kids roll balls of mud and seeds in their hands. They line up their balls of mud on the table.

Terrylynn asks, DO YOU SEE THAT BEAUTIFUL
FIELD OVER THERE?

She points to the field behind them where flowers grow.

The kids say, YEAH.

Terrylynn says, YOU SEE IT?
SO YOU GUYS ARE GONNA TAKE
THESE,
AND YOU'RE GONNA WHIP 'EM ALL
OVER THERE, AS FAR AS YOU CAN.
AND EVENTUALLY THESE
WILL START TO BREAK DOWN,
AND SOME OF THE SEEDS
WILL START RIGHT GROWING.
NOW, YOU GUYS ARE GOING
TO EXPERIENCE
AN INDIGENOUS AGRICULTURAL
PLANTING TECHNIQUE.
ARE YOU READY TO HELP?

Chloe and Housten say, YEAH!

Each person takes a ball from the bowl.

Housten asks, YOU GUYS READY?

Terrylynn and the kids stand in the field with the mud seed balls.

Kaori says, THREE, TWO, ONE,
BLAST OFF!

Chloe cheers, WOOOOO!

In slow motion, Terrylynn, Kaori, Housten and Chloe throw their mud balls into the field.

Terrylynn says, WE'VE COME TO THE END
OF THE SEASON,
I WANT TO THANK YOU,
AND IT'S IMPORTANT
THAT WE REMEMBER THAT
THE CREATOR GAVE ALL THINGS
IN CREATION A RESPONSIBILITY,
AND WE'RE HAPPY THAT
THE MASON BEE CONTINUED
ITS RESPONSIBILITY THIS SUMMER.
SO NOW WE HAVE TO THANK IT,
AND ALL OF CREATION,
SO EVERYONE, NIA:WEN.

Housten and Chloe repeat, NIA:WEN.

Kaori says, NIA:WEN!

Terrylynn speaks in an Indigenous language. Housten, Chloe and Kaori repeat what she says.

Chloe says, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TODAY.
WE POLLINHEADS LEARNED SO MUCH.

Housten says, YES, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Chloe says, THE MASON BEE IS ALL SET
FOR SPRING.
IT'S GOT A HOME,
AND SOME FOOD.

Housten says, AND WE HAVE A POLLINHEADS
HANDSHAKE
TO END THE DAY.

Chloe says, SO WE'RE ALL GONNA PUT
OUR HANDS IN THE MIDDLE,
AND RAISE THEM HIGH IN THE SKY.

She, Housten, Kaori and Terrylynn put their hands together.

Chloe says, HIIIIIGH FLY!

The group wiggle their fingers then raise their hands above their heads.

(Giggling)

In the lake, Leo says, DON'T THE POLLINHEADS GET
TO KNOW THE BEST PEOPLE?
AND THE BEST POLLINATORS?
I THINK THE MASON BEE
MIGHT BE ONE OF MY MOST
FAVOURITE POLLINATING PALS YET.
POLLINHEADS ALERT!

A flower reads, PollinHeads Alert!

Leo says, HELPING THE MASON BEES
THROUGH THE WINTER
IS A JOB ANYONE CAN DO
RIGHT AT HOME.
WRAP SOME NATURAL BROWN PAPER
AROUND A PENCIL AND A MARKER,
AND SECURE IT WITH TAPE.
HAVING A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT
SIZES HELPS!
THEN FIND AND CLEAN OUT
AN OLD RECYCLED CONTAINER,
LIKE AN OLD COFFEE CAN,
AND PLACE THE TUBES INSIDE.
TO KEEP THE NESTING TUBES
STEADY AND WARM,
FILL THE AREA AROUND IT
WITH SOIL OR SOME MOSS,
AND... TA-DAH!
YOUR VERY OWN DIY
MASON BEE NEST.

A field is full of different colourful flowers.

Leo says, COMBINE THAT WITH A GARDEN FULL
OF POPPIES,
BLACK-EYED SUSANS
AND PURPLE ASTERS,
AND YOU HAVE DEFINITELY
DONE YOUR PART
TO HELP THE MASON BEE.
NOW THE MASON BEES WILL BE
JUST FINE COME THE SPRING.

(Bee buzzing)

Lep says, HMM, IF ONLY I COULD GET
A LITTLE HELP
TO MAKE ME A COZY HOME
FOR WINTER.
OOH! AND SNACKS
FOR AFTER WINTER.
OR FOR NOW.
ANYONE OUT THERE WANT TO MAKE
THIS SASSY CATFISH SOME SNACKS?

Leo looks around the lake.

Leo says, ANYONE AT ALL?
