In split screens, children prepare food in time to the music. The children hit pots and pans with kitchen utensils, and mix and shake ingredients in containers. Rows of different dishes appear.

Lewis walks to the back of the house. A woman with long straight blond hair wearing a grey shirt and cardigan walks behind him.

Lewis says, THIS IS MY MUM, JANE.

Lewis’s Mum, Jane, waves and says, HELLO.

The narrator says, HI, MUM.

Lewis stands in front of a kitchen counter.

Lewis says, TODAY I AM GOING TO BE MAKING
CHALLAH BREAD, BECAUSE IT'S
REALLY YUMMY AND IT'S VERY EASY
TO MAKE.

Lewis puts ingredients on the kitchen counter.

The narrator says, LEWIS'S MUM JANE HAS SHOWN
HIM THE FAMILY'S VERY SPECIAL
WAY OF MAKING CHOCOLATE CHALLAH
BREAD, WHICH IS REALLY TASTY.
LEWIS'S MUM AND GRANDPARENTS
ORIGINALLY COME FROM ISRAEL.

A person uses a knife and fork on a plate of food.

The narrator says, SOME PEOPLE IN ISRAEL MAKE A
BREAD CALLED CHALLAH BREAD TO
EAT ON SPECIAL DAYS.
IT'S A SWEET FLUFFY BREAD MADE
IN THE SHAPE OF A PLAIT.

Lewis washes his hands at a kitchen sink and puts a grey striped apron over his T-shirt.

The narrator says,
LEWIS HAS WASHED HIS HANDS,
PUT ON HIS APRON, AND IS READY
TO COOK.

Lewis says, I AM GOING TO BE MAKING MY
VERY OWN SPECIAL CHOCOLATE
CHALLAH BREAD FOR MY FRIENDS.

The narrator says, AND HE'S INVITED GEORGE,
SAMUEL, AMELIA, AND CHARLIE TO
TASTE A SPECIAL INGREDIENT
BEFORE THEY COME ROUND FOR AN
ISRAELI DESSERT LATER.

George is a boy with short dark hair wearing a light orange T-shirt. Samuel is a boy with light-brown hair with bangs wearing a yellow T-shirt with a blue collar. Amelia is a girl with straight blond hair tied back and wearing a pink cardigan. Charlie is a boy with blond hair wearing a blue T-shirt. George, Samuel, Amelia, and Charlie wave.

George opens a cardboard box. He takes out a square piece of chocolate.

The narrator says, WHAT'S THAT?
IT'S CHOCOLATE.

George bites the chocolate and says,
IT DOESN'T TASTE LIKE NORMAL
CHOCOLATE, IT TASTES LIKE...

George chews and makes a face.

George says,
UM, REALLY STRONG...
...DISGUSTING, DARK CHOCOLATE.

The narrator says, YOU'RE RIGHT, IT IS DARK
CHOCOLATE.

Charlie chews a piece of chocolate and says,
I DO LIKE LIGHT CHOCOLATE
BETTER, BUT THIS IS REALLY NICE.

The narrator says, OOH, CHARLIE LIKES IT.

Charlie says, IT'S LOVELY.

Samuel bites a piece of chocolate and chews.

Samuel says, AFTER A WHILE IT DOESN'T
TASTE THAT NICE.

The narrator says, OH DEAR, DOESN'T SEEM
EVERYONE LIKES DARK CHOCOLATE.

Amelia chews a piece of chocolate and says, MM.

Amelia makes a face and shakes her head.

Amelia says,
NOT THAT GOOD.

The narrator says, WELL, LET'S HOPE LEWIS CAN
CHANGE THEIR MINDS.
BECAUSE DARK CHOCOLATE MAKES
HIS CHALLAH BREAD VERY TASTY.

(Bongo music)

Ingredients appear on a light-coloured board.

The narrator says,
AS WELL AS DARK CHOCOLATE
YOU'LL NEED SALT, WATER, DRIED
ACTIVE YEAST, HONEY, VEGETABLE
OIL, EGGS, PLAIN FLOUR, AND
CLEMENTINES.

Lewis says, FIRST I NEED TO PUT THE YEAST
INTO THIS JUG.

Lewis pours a dish of yeast into a measuring cup full of water.

The narrator says, MAKE SURE THE WATER IS WARM
AND ADD SOME YUMMY RUNNY HONEY.
COVER IT WITH A CLEAN TEA TOWEL
AND LEAVE IT FOR A WHILE.
NOW CRACK THOSE EGGS.

Lewis cracks two eggs into a glass and pours them into a measuring cup. Lewis stirs the eggs with a spoon.

The narrator says,
GIVE THEM A MIX.
WIPE YOUR HANDS.

Lewis says, THEN I HAVE TO PUT SOME MORE
HONEY INTO THE JUG.

Lewis puts a spoon of honey into the jug with the eggs.

The narrator says, OH, MORE RUNNY HONEY.
ADD A PINCH OF SALT AND WHEN
THE YEAST IS ALL BUBBLY, POUR
IT INTO THE FLOUR.

Lewis says, IT LOOKS LIKE A HOT
CHOCOLATE.
NOW, I'M GOING TO ADD THE EGG AS
WELL.

Lewis stirs all the ingredients in a green plastic mixing bowl with a wooden spoon.

Lewis says, WHAT I'M GOING TO MIX ALL OF
THIS TOGETHER UNTIL IT TURNS
INTO DOUGH.

Lewis stirs the ingredients in the green bowl until they turn into dough.

The narrator says, NOW, SPRINKLE THE WORKTOP
WITH FLOUR TO STOP THE DOUGH
STICKING.

Lewis says, I'M GOING TO POUR THIS ONTO
THE SURFACE.

Lewis pulls at the dough with his hands.

The narrator says, PUSH AND PULL IT JUST LIKE
THIS, THAT'S CALLED KNEADING.

Lewis kneads the dough on the light-coloured board.

The narrator says, OIL YOUR BOWL.

Lewis uses a brush to oil the inside of the green bowl. He picks up the dough and drops it in the green bowl.

The narrator says, POP THE DOUGH INSIDE, COVER IT
WITH A CLEAN TEA TOWEL, AND
LEAVE IT TO RISE.
WHAT NOW, LEWIS?

Lewis says, I AM GOING TO PEEL SOME
CLEMENTINES.
THEY GO REALLY NICE WITH THE
CHALLAH BREAD.

The narrator says, AND AFTER YOU'VE LEFT THE
DOUGH TO RISE...

Lewis says, IT'S DEFINITELY DONE.

The narrator says, ...TIP IT ONTO A FLOURED
WORKTOP.

Lewis drops the dough onto the light-coloured board.

The narrator says, SQUASH THE AIR OUT OF IT, THEN
ROLL IT INTO A BIG SAUSAGE.
WHAT'S NEXT, LEWIS?

Lewis says, WE'RE CUTTING IT INTO THREE
PIECES.
I'M GOING TO MAKE THESE THREE
PIECES INTO SAUSAGES.

Lewis rolls three pieces of dough on the light-coloured board and stretches them out, side by side.

Lewis says,
NOW, IT'S TIME FOR MY MOST
IMPORTANT INGREDIENT.

The narrator says, WHAT'S THAT?

Lewis says, THE CHOCOLATE.

(Bongo music)

The narrator says, DARK CHOCOLATE IS MADE FROM
COCO PODS THAT GROW ON THE
CACAO TREE.

Cocoa pods grow and turn dark brown on an animated cacao tree.

The narrator says, THE PODS ARE READY TO PICK WHEN
THEY'RE A BROWN COLOUR.

An animated character dressed in a blue and orange rugby uniform picks a cocoa pod from the tree.

The narrator says,
SOME COCO PODS CAN GROW AS BIG
AS A RUGBY BALL.
INSIDE EACH COCO POD ARE THE
COCO SEEDS.

The top is removed from an animated cocoa pod, revealing rows of large light-yellow seeds.

The narrator says,
THEY TASTE SOUR WHEN FIRST
PICKED AND NOTHING LIKE THE
CHOCOLATE WE'RE USED TO.
DRIED COCO SEEDS ARE SENT TO
FACTORIES WHERE THEY'RE TURNED
INTO LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF
CHOCOLATE.

Animated chocolates and desserts appear.

The narrator says,
WHAT DO WE DO NEXT LEWIS?

Lewis says, I HAVE TO OPEN THIS BAG AND
PUT ALL OF THE CHOCOLATE INSIDE
THE BAG.
SMASH ALL OF THE CHOCOLATE
TOGETHER.

Lewis puts pieces of chocolate into a clear plastic bag. He puts the bag on the light-coloured board and hits it with a wooden rolling pin.

(Banging)

The narrator says, THAT IS SO LOUD.

Lewis says, NOW, I AM GOING TO PUT THE
CHOCOLATE INTO THE DOUGH.

Lewis presses small chunks of chocolate into the three pieces of dough.

Lewis says,
I'M GOING TO HIDE ALL OF THE
CHOCOLATE.

Lewis squeezes dough around the chunks of chocolate.

Lewis says,
AND NOW I AM GOING TO CONNECT
ALL OF THESE TOPS TOGETHER AND
THEN I'M GOING TO START PLAITING
THEM.

Lewis twists the three pieces of dough into a plaited pattern on the light-coloured board.

Lewis says,
I'M REALLY PLEASED WITH THIS
CHALLAH BREAD.

Lewis pats the plaited pieces of dough.

The narrator says, MM, YUMMY.
THEN BRUSH THE DOUGH WITH
BEATEN EGG.

Lewis says, IT MAKES IT GO MORE SHINY AND
IT MAKES IT LOOK BETTER.

The narrator says, NOW, ASK A GROWN UP TO POP IT
IN THE OVEN FOR YOU.

Lewis calls, MUM.

Jane puts a baking pan with the plaited dough into an oven.

The narrator says, NOW, IF YOU WANT TO MAKE
LEWIS'S CHOCOLATE CHALLAH
BREAD…

(Bongo music)

The narrator says, FIRST ADD THE DRY ACTIVE
YEAST TO WARM WATER.
ADD SOME RUNNY HONEY, THEN
COVER IT WITH A CLEAN TEA TOWEL
AND LEAVE IT IN A WARM PLACE.
NOW CRACK YOUR EGGS INTO A JUG.
ADD MORE RUNNY YUMMY HONEY.
A PINCH OF SALT, AND GIVE IT A
GOOD MIX.
UNCOVER THE YEAR MIXTURE WHEN
IT'S GONE BUBBLY AND POUR IT
INTO A BOWL OF FLOUR.
ADD THE EGGY MIXTURE.
AND MIX IT ALL TOGETHER UNTIL
IT TURNS INTO A DOUGH.
TIP THE DOUGH ONTO A FLOURED
WORKTOP THEN START TO PUSH AND
PULL THE DOUGH UNTIL IT'S
SMOOTH.
JUST LIKE THIS.
NEXT BRUSH A BOWL WITH OIL
AND POP THE DOUGH INTO IT.
COVER IT WITH A CLEAN TEA TOWEL

PLACE.
PUT THE DARK CHOCOLATE INTO A
FOOD BAG AND BASH IT WITH A
ROLLING PIN UNTIL IT GOES INTO
SMALL PIECES!
WHEN THE DOUGH'S RISEN, TIP IT
ONTO A FLOURED WORKTOP.
THEN PUSH AND PULL IT AGAIN
TO GET ALL THE AIR OUT.
THIS MIGHT TAKE A FEW MINUTES.
THEN ROLL IT INTO A BIG SAUSAGE
SHAPE AND CUT IT INTO THREE
PIECES.
ROLL EACH PIECE INTO SMALLER
SAUSAGES, AND PUSH YOUR
CHOCOLATE INTO EACH SAUSAGE,
HIDING IT IN THE DOUGH.
THEN SQUEEZE THE THREE SAUSAGES
TOGETHER AT ONE END, AND CROSS
EACH SAUSAGE UNTIL YOU GET TO
THE END.

Lewis plaits three pieces of dough together on a light-coloured board.

The narrator says,
THIS LITTLE TRICK IS CALLED
PLAITING.
THEN SQUEEZE THE ENDS TOGETHER
JUST LIKE THIS.
NOW BRUSH MORE BEATEN EGG ON
TOP OF THE LOAF AND LIFT IT
ONTO GREASE-PROOF PAPER ON A
BAKING TRAY.
THEN ASK A GROWN UP TO PUT IT
INTO THE OVEN FOR YOU.
DON'T FORGET TO PEEL AND DIVIDE
CLEMENTINES INTO SEGMENTS.
THEY GO VERY WELL WITH THE
COOKED CHOCOLATE CHALLAH BREAD.
NOW, THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME
FOR LEWIS TO GET THE TABLE
READY.

Lewis hangs bunting and decorates a table.

Lewis says, IN ISRAEL THEY GROW LOTS OF
FRUITS, SO I'M DECORATING THE
TABLE WITH THEM.

Lewis puts bowls of fruit and coasters, placemats, plates, and napkins with fruit designs on a wooden patio table.

Lewis says, WE ALWAYS DRINK GRAPE JUICE WITH
THE CHALLAH BREAD BECAUSE IT
MAKES THE BREAD TASTE EVEN
NICER.

Lewis pours grape juice from a clear pitcher into a glass.

(Doorbell ringing)

Lewis says, MY FRIENDS.

The narrator says, WELL DONE, LEWIS, YOUR
FRUITY ISRAELI THEMED TABLE
LOOKS BRILLIANT.

Lewis opens the front door.

George, Samuel, Amelia, and Charlie say, HI!

Lewis says, COME IN.

George, Samuel, Amelia, and Charlie walk into the house. Lewis closes the door.

The narrator says, EVERYONE'S WASHED THEIR HANDS
AND THEY'RE READY TO EAT.

Lewis, George, Samuel, Amelia, and Charlie walk into a back yard and sit at the patio table. Jane follows them holding a board with challah bread.

The narrator says,
HERE COMES MUM WITH THAT COOKED
BREAD.

Lewis says, I'VE MADE THIS SPECIAL
ISRAELI DISH FOR YOU TO TRY.
IT'S CALLED CHALLAH BREAD.

Janes puts the board with the challah bread on the patio table.

The narrator says, WOW, LEWIS'S CHOCOLATE
CHALLAH BREAD LOOKS GREAT.
AND IT'S READY TO EAT NOW THAT
IT'S COOLED DOWN.

Jane slices the challah bread on the board. She offers bread to Lewis and his friends.

Lewis says, THANK YOU.

Charlie says, I'LL TAKE THAT ONE.

Lewis says, WE'RE USING CLEMENTINES TO
EAT WITH THE BREAD.

The narrator says, THEY GO REALLY WELL TOGETHER.
EARLIER ON ONLY CHARLIE LIKED
THE TASTE OF DARK CHOCOLATE.
DO YOU THINK EVERYBODY ELSE
WILL LIKE IT, NOW THAT IT'S
COOKED IN THE CHALLAH BREAD?

Amelia says, IT IS REALLY GOOD.

Charlie says, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE BREAD.

Samuel says, I THINK YOU'VE DONE A GOOD
JOB.

George says, IS THIS GRAPE JUICE?

Lewis says, YEAH.
WE DRINK IT WITH OUR CHALLAH
BREAD TO MAKE IT TASTE EVEN
NICER.
CAN YOU GUESS WHAT MY SPECIAL
INGREDIENT IS?

George, Samuel, Amelia, and Charlie say, DARK CHOCOLATE.

Charlie raises his arms and says, EASY!

George says, I THINK YOU CHANGED MY MIND
LEWIS AND NOW I REALLY LIKE DARK
CHOCOLATE WITH BREAD.

The narrator says, AH, THAT'S BRILLIANT, GEORGE.

Lewis, George, Samuel, Amelia, and Charlie clink their glasses together over the patio table and say,
TO THE BREAD!
TO THE BREAD!
CHEERS!

Lewis, George, Samuel, Amelia, and Charlie drink grape juice from the glasses.

The narrator says, WELL DONE, LEWIS, THEY DO
LIKE THE TASTE OF DARK
CHOCOLATE AFTER ALL.

Lewis says, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO
MY WORLD KITCHEN.
