Text reads “My World Kitchen.”
A narrator says, WHOSE KITCHEN
ARE WE GOING TO TODAY?
[Door opens]
Reese waves. She wears her long dark brown hair loose down her back. Reese wears a pink shirt and blue shorts.
Reese says, HELLO, MY NAME IS REESE,
AND THIS IS MY HOUSE.
COME IN. THIS IS MY MUM.
Reese’s mother smiles. She wears her long blonde hair loose over her shoulders. She wears a blue tank top with blue denim jeans.
Reese’s mother says, HELLO.
The narrator says, HELLO, MUM.
Reese says, AND THIS IS MY KITCHEN.
TODAY, I'M GOING TO BE MAKING
CASSAVA CAKE.
IT IS REALLY, REALLY YUMMY AND
IT IS MY FAVOURITE PUDDING.
The narrator says, REESE HAS LEARNED
HOW TO MAKE CASSAVA CAKE FROM HER
MUM, RIA.
REESE'S MUM IS FILIPINO, AND
HER FAMILY ORIGINALLY COME FROM
THE PHILIPPINES.
A green arrow points to the Philippines on a world map.
The narrator says, THE PHILIPPINES
IS A COUNTRY MADE UP OF THOUSANDS
OF ISLANDS IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN.
THE WARM TROPICAL WEATHER THERE
IS PERFECT FOR GROWING FRUIT,
INCLUDING PINEAPPLES, STRAWBERRIES,
KIWIS AND COCONUTS.
FOOD AND MEALTIMES ARE VERY
IMPORTANT TO FILIPINO PEOPLE,
WHO SOMETIMES EAT UP TO FIVE
SMALL MEALS A DAY.
DESSERT IS A SPECIAL PART OF
MEALTIME FOR MANY PEOPLE IN
THE PHILIPPINES. CAKES COVERED
IN COCONUT ARE VERY POPULAR.
REESE HAS WASHED HER HANDS,
PUT ON HER APRON AND SHE'S
READY TO COOK.
[Water flows]
Reese says, TODAY, I'M GOING TO BE
MAKING CASSAVA CAKE FOR MY FRIENDS.
Xavier wears his black hair short and a red shirt. He smiles and waves. Meadow wears her red hair pulled up in a bun. She wears an orange and white tank top. Raaga smiles and waves. She wears her wavy black hair loose over the shoulders of her yellow blouse.
The narrator says, AND SHE'S INVITED
XAVIER, MEADOW AND RAAGA TO TASTE
ONE OF THE MAIN INGREDIENTS BEFORE
THEY COME ROUND FOR A VERY SPECIAL
CAKE FROM THE PHILIPPINES LATER.
WHAT'S THAT?
Raaga says, FEELS A BIT LIKE GLUE.
Meadow says, IT FEELS WET AND SLIPPERY.
The narrator says, WHAT DO YOU THINK
IT IS?
Xavier says, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS.
The narrator says, IT'S COOKED
CASSAVA. DO YOU LIKE IT?
Xavier says, IT TASTES A BIT PLAIN.
Meadow says, IF IT WAS COOKED
DIFFERENTLY, I WOULDN'T MIND
TRYING IT.
The narrator says, THAT'S GOOD.
Xavier says, I DON'T WANT TO EAT IT.
The narrator says, OH DEAR.
LET'S SEE IF REESE CAN CHANGE
THEIR MINDS BECAUSE CASSAVA IS
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT
INGREDIENTS IN HER CASSAVA CAKE.
Ingredients appear as the narrator lists them.
[Popping]
The narrator says, AS WELL AS CASSAVA,
YOU'LL ALSO NEED COCONUT CREAM,
COCONUT MILK, EGGS, VEGETABLE OIL,
MILK, SUGAR, VANILLA EXTRACT,
GRATED CHEESE AND FRUIT.
SO, WHAT'S FIRST, REESE?
Reese says, FIRST, YOU WANT TO
CRACK THE EGG INTO A CUP TO SEE
IF THE EGG IS GOOD OR BAD.
YOU ALSO WANT TO SEE IF THE EGG
HAS GOT ANY SHELLS IN IT.
[Cracking]
The narrator says, GOOD IDEA,
REESE. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR
ANY EGGSHELL. OH, THERE GOES
THE SECOND EGG.
[Clanking]
Reese says, NOW, WE'RE GOING
TO WHISK THE EGGS.
THEN, WE'RE GOING TO ADD IN OUR
TWO EGGS INTO THE BOWL. I'M GOING
TO WIPE MY HANDS WITH SOME TISSUE.
[Sloshing]
The narrator says, WELL-REMEMBERED REESE.
Reese says, I'M GOING TO ADD IN OUR
COCONUT MILK, FOLLOWED BY OUR
COCONUT CREAM.
NOW, WE ARE GOING TO ADD IN
EIGHTY MILLILITRES OF MILK.
[Shoshing]
The narrator says, THAT'S JUST RIGHT.
ADD SOME VEGETABLE OIL.
AND WHAT'S NEXT?
Reese says, NOW, WE'RE GOING TO ADD
IN SOME VANILLA EXTRACT INTO THE
BOWL. VANILLA EXTRACT WILL GIVE IT
SOME FLAVOUR.
NOW, WE'RE GOING TO ADD IN
SOME SUGAR INTO THE BOWL.
[Thunking]
The narrator says, AHH, THAT'S THE IDEA,
REESE, GIVE IT A GOOD MIX.
Reese says, NOW, WE ARE GOING TO ADD
IN OUR MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT.
The narrator says, AND YOU KNOW WHAT
THAT IS, DON'T YOU? CASSAVA.
CASSAVA IS A PLANT THAT GROWS
IN THE PHILIPPINES. THEY CAN GROW
VERY TALL, TALLER THAN PEOPLE.
CASSAVA PLANTS HAVE
FUNNY-SHAPED ROOTS CALLED
TUBERS, WHICH ARE OFTEN USED
IN COOKING.
THE TUBERS CAN BE CHOPPED UP
VERY SMALL AND USED IN SWEET
RECIPES, SUCH AS CAKES.
CASSAVA TUBERS CAN BE USED
TO MAKE ALL SORTS OF FOODS,
INCLUDING FLOUR, BREAD AND
EVEN BABY FOOD.
REESE IS USING FROZEN CASSAVA
CHIPS TODAY.
[Crinkling]
Reese says, NOW, WE'RE GOING TO ADD
IN OUR CASSAVA INTO THE GRATER,
BUT BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THE GRATER
HAS SOME SHARP EDGES AND YOU
DON'T WANT TO CUT ANY OFF YOUR
TINY FINGERS.
OH, THIS IS GETTING REALLY HARD.
IN COMES THE STRUGGLE, OUT COMES
THE MUSCLES.
Reese kisses her biceps.
[Grinding, kissing]
[Narrator laughs]
The narrator says, SHE'S GREAT.
AND IF YOU FIND IT TRICKY,
ASK A GROWN-UP TO HELP YOU.
[Thumping]
Reese says, NOW, WE CAN ADD IN
ALL THE CASSAVA INTO THE BOWL.
AND THEN, WE'RE GOING TO ADD
IN HALF OF OUR CHEESE INTO THE
MIXTURE. WE'RE GOING TO LEAVE HALF
BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO USE THAT
FOR THE TOPPING.
AND NOW WE CAN MIX THIS UNTIL
IT IS WELL COMBINED.
IT MIGHT SEEM VERY WEIRD THAT
WE'RE ADDING CHEESE, BUT IT
REALLY IS YUMMY.
The narrator says, MMM, LET'S HOPE
YOUR FRIENDS AGREE, REESE, BECAUSE
THIS IS A VERY POPULAR CAKE IN
THE PHILIPPINES.
Reese says, I HAVE BEEN TO THE
PHILIPPINES AND IT IS REALLY,
REALLY HOT.
YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT A REALLY
GOOD MIX, SO THEN YOU CAN TASTE
SO MUCH DELICIOUS THINGS IN
YOUR CAKE.
I LOVE FILIPINO FOOD SO MUCH.
I THINK THIS IS READY NOW.
NOW, I'M GOING TO ADD THIS INTO
OUR BAKING TRAY. GREASE THE TIN
WITH OIL AND WITH THIS BRUSH.
BRUSHING IT ONTO THE PAN.
IF YOU DON'T GREASE THE SIDES,
THEN IT WILL BE REALLY HARD TO
GET OUT.
NOW, WE CAN ADD IN OUR MIXTURE
INTO THE BOWL. THE MIXTURE SMELLS
LIKE COCONUT.
The narrator says, MMM, DELICIOUS.
Reese dances as she sprinkles cheese on the cake.
Reese says, AND NOW, WE CAN
SPRINKLE THE REST OF THE CHEESE
ON TOP OF OUR MIXTURE.
The narrator says, OOH, DANCING, REESE!
[Narrator laughs]
The narrator asks, WHAT ARE YOU GOING
TO DO NOW?
Reese says, THE CHEESE DANCE.
The narrator says, THAT LOOKS LIKE FUN.
[Reese hums]
Reese says, WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED
SPRINKLING ALL OF THE CHEESE ALL
AROUND THE AREAS, YOU WANT TO
GET A GROWN-UP TO PUT IT INTO
THE OVEN. MUM?
Ria puts the pan into the oven.
[Clank]
The narrator says,, THANKS, MUM.
Reese says, NOW, WE ARE GOING
TO CUT UP SOME FRUIT. I'VE GOT
MANGO, PINEAPPLE AND WATERMELON.
THE FRUIT GOES REALLY WELL WITH
THE CASSAVA CAKE AND EVEN TASTES
LIKE A FRUITCAKE.
[Chopping]
The narrator says, CAREFUL WITH THE KNIFE.
SO, THERE'S YUMMY MANGO, PINEAPPLE,
AND THAT'S A REALLY CLEVER WAY TO
CUT UP WATERMELON.
Reese uses a cookie cutter to cut watermelon.
Reese says, THESE ARE LOOKING
REALLY, REALLY YUMMY.
The narrator says, MM, WHAT'S
NEXT, REESE?
Reese says, NOW, I HAVE FINISHED
CUTTING ALL OF MY FRUIT, WE CAN
WAIT FOR THE CASSAVA CAKE TO BE
READY TO EAT.
The narrator says, AND IF YOU'D LIKE
TO MAKE REESE'S CASSAVA CAKE,
CRACK AN EGG, GIVE IT A MIX,
AND POUR IT INTO A BOWL.
DO THE SAME WITH ANOTHER EGG.
ADD THE COCONUT MILK, THE
COCONUT CREAM, AND ORDINARY
MILK. ADD VEGETABLE OIL,
VANILLA EXTRACT, SUGAR,
AND GRATE THE CASSAVA,
AND ADD THAT TO THE BOWL,
TOO. GRATED CHEESE NEXT.
AND GIVE IT ALL A REALLY
GOOD MIX.
OIL A BAKING TIN AND TIP THE
MIXTURE INSIDE.
SPRINKLE ON MORE GRATED CHEESE.
THEN, ASK A GROWN-UP TO PUT IT
IN THE OVEN FOR YOU.
CAREFULLY CHOP UP ANY FRUIT
YOU LIKE... SO YOU CAN SERVE IT
WITH YOUR CASSAVA CAKE.
NOW, THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME
FOR REESE TO GET THE TABLE
READY, SO SHE CAN SHARE HER
VERY SPECIAL FILIPINO CAKE WITH
HER FRIENDS.
Reese says, THIS LOOKS AMAZING.
The narrator says, YES, IT DOES.
[Doorbell rings]
Reese says, THAT'S MY FRIENDS.
The narrator says, AHH, WELL DONE,
REESE. YOUR TABLE LOOKS
REALLY GOOD.
Meadow says, HI, REESE.
Xavier says, HI, REESE.
Reese says, HELLO. COME IN.
[Door closes]
The narrator says, EVERYONE'S WASHED
THEIR HANDS AND IS READY TO EAT.
Xavier says, WOW!
Meadow says, WOW, THIS IS AMAZING.
THIS MUST HAVE TAKEN YOU
AGES, REESE. I LIKE HOW YOU MADE
THE SHAPES OF THE FRUIT.
WHAT'S THIS?
Reese says, WELL, THIS IS BANANA
LEAF. A BANANA LEAF IS FROM THE
PHILIPPINES, AND WE ARE GOING TO
PUT OUR FOOD ONTO IT.
Meadow asks, IS FILIPINO FOOD
YOUR FAVOURITE?
Reese says, YES. HERE COMES MY
MUM WITH THE FOOD.
Ria says, HI, GUYS.
The narrator says, AH, THANKS, MUM.
Ria says, HERE'S YOUR CASSAVA CAKE.
IT LOOKS REALLY NICE.
Xavier says, YAY.
Raga says, IT LOOKS GOOD.
The narrator says, WOW, JUST
LOOK AT THAT.
IT LOOKS GOLDEN BROWN AND
DELICIOUS NOW THAT IT'S COOKED,
AND THE FRUIT DECORATION MAKES
IT LOOK VERY, VERY SPECIAL.
AND YOU CAN SEE, LOOK, THE
CHEESE HAS ALL MELTED.
DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN THEY
FIRST TASTED CASSAVA? NOBODY
WAS VERY KEEN ON IT. DO YOU
THINK THEY'LL CHANGE THEIR
MINDS WHEN THEY TASTE REESE'S
CASSAVA CAKE? LET'S HOPE SO.
Meadow says, THE FLAVOUR AND
THE TEXTURE'S REALLY NICE.
Xavier says, TASTES REALLY GOOD.
Reese asks, SO, GUYS, DO YOU KNOW
WHAT THE SPECIAL INGREDIENT IS?
Her friends say, CASSAVA.
Reese says, CORRECT.
DID YOU LIKE IT?
Her friends reply, YES.
The narrator says, WHAT A GREAT
RESULT. WELL DONE, REESE.
IT LOOKS LIKE THEY DO LIKE THE
TASTE OF CASSAVA WHEN IT'S
COOKED IN YOUR CASSAVA CAKE.
Reese says, THANK YOU FOR COMING
TO MY WORLD KITCHEN.
