LEEK IS A TRADITIONAL WELSH
PLANT.
Lexi pours a bowl of chopped leeks to the green bowl.
The narrator says, ADD THE CHOPPED LEEKS TO THE
BOWL, GIVE IT A STIR, AND PRESS
IT DOWN.
THEN TAKE A HANDFUL OF THE
MIXTURE.
Lexi pulls out a handful of the leek and breadcrumb mixture.
Lexi says, I'M GOING TO SPLIT IT INTO
TWO.
I'M GOING TO TURN IT INTO MY
SAUSAGE.
The narrator says, JUST SQUEEZE, SHAPE, AND ROLL
TO MAKE ALL OF YOUR SAUSAGES.
PERFECT, LEXI.
THEN COVER THEM UP WITH FOIL.
Lexi puts a plate covered with tin foil into a refrigerator.
Lexi says, I'M GOING TO PUT THESE IN THE
FRIDGE.
I'M GOING TO TAKE THREE
SPOONFULS OF FLOUR AND PUT IT
INTO THE BOWL.
The narrator says, CRACK AN EGG INTO A MUG,
CHECK FOR SHELL AND MIX IT, MIX
IT.
THEN TIP INTO ANOTHER BOWL AND
DO THE SAME WITH ANOTHER EGG.
Lexi says, I'M GOING TO WIPE MY HANDS
BECAUSE I JUST TOUCHED AN EGG.
The narrator says, TAKE THE CHILLED SAUSAGES OUT
OF THE FRIDGE.
Lexi says, AND I'M GOING TO BRING THE
FIRST GLAMORGAN SAUSAGE ONTO THE
FLOUR.
The narrator says, AND COAT THEM WITH FLOUR,
THEN THE EGG.
OH, LOVELY.
AND FINALLY THE REST OF THE
BREADCRUMBS.
Lexi says, AND THE EGG HELPS IT STICK TO
THE BREAD.
The narrator says, POP THEM ON BAKING PAPER ON A
BAKING TRAY, THEN BRUSH WITH
OIL TO HELP THEM COOK.
Lexi says, MUM, CAN YOU PUT THEM IN THE
OVEN PLEASE?
Lexi’s mum says, THEY LOOK LOVELY, LEXI.
Lexi’s mum puts a tray of sausages into an oven.
The narrator says, AND IF YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE
LEXI'S WELSH GLAMORGAN SAUSAGES
AT HOME, GRATE SLICES OF BROWN
AND WHITE BREAD INTO A BOWL TO
MAKE BREADCRUMBS.
PUT HALF OF THEM INTO A DISH
FOR LATER.
CRUMBLE THE CHEESE AND ADD TO
THE BOWL.
PULL THE LEAVES FROM FRESH
PARSLEY, CAREFULLY CHOP IN A
MUG, AND ADD TO THE BOWL.
CRACK AN EGG, CHECK FOR SHELL,
AND TIP IT INTO YOUR BOWL.
THEN DO THE SAME WITH ANOTHER
EGG, AND DON'T FORGET TO WIPE
YOUR HANDS AFTER TOUCHING RAW
EGG.
ADD MUSTARD POWDER AND BLACK
PEPPER TO THE BOWL THEN GIVE IT
A GOOD MIX.
CAREFULLY CHOP THE ENDS OFF
BABY LEEKS, CUT THEM INTO SMALL
PIECES AND ADD TO YOUR BOWL.
GIVE EVERYTHING ANOTHER MIX AND
PRESS IT DOWN.
TAKE A HANDFUL OF MIXTURE,
SPLIT IT IN HALF, THEN SQUEEZE,
SHAPE, AND ROLL EACH HALF INTO
SAUSAGE SHAPES, AND DO THE SAME
WITH THE REST OF THE MIXTURE TO
MAKE MORE SAUSAGES.
COVER WITH FOIL AND POP IN THE
FRIDGE TO CHILL.
SPOON FLOUR INTO A DISH.
CRACK AN EGG, CHECK FOR SHELL,
THEN GIVE IT A GOOD MIX.
TIP THE EGG INTO ANOTHER DISH
AND DO THE SAME WITH THE SECOND
EGG.
THEN WIPE YOUR HANDS AGAIN.
WHEN THE SAUSAGES ARE CHILLED
AND FIRM, COAT EACH WITH FLOUR,
EGG, AND BREADCRUMBS.
PUT ALL THE COATED SAUSAGES ON
OILED BAKING PAPER ON A BAKING
TRAY AND GIVE YOUR HANDS ONE
LAST WIPE.
BRUSH WITH OLIVE OIL.
AND ASK A GROWNUP TO PUT THEM
IN THE OVEN FOR YOU.
NOW, THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME
FOR LEXI TO GET THE TABLE READY
FOR HER WELSH MEAL.
THERE'S A WELSH DRAGON, WHOA!
AND SOME DAFFODILS.
Lexi puts a small white cage full of yellow daffodils onto a dining room table covered with a blue tablecloth and navy-blue placemats.
Lexi puts a clear glass jug of water onto the table.
Lexi says, I GOT THESE LEEK BADGES MADE
FOR MY FRIENDS TO WEAR BECAUSE
LEEKS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE
WELSH.
(Doorbell ringing)
Lexi smiles and says, MY FRIENDS ARE HERE.
The narrator says, OH, WELL DONE, LEXI.
YOUR TABLE LOOKS WONDERFULLY
WELSH, COMPLETE WITH DAFFODILS
AND EVEN LITTLE LEEKS.
Small paper leeks sit on the placemats. Lexi opens her front door.
Lexi says, HI, COME IN.
Saffi and Lily say HI LEXI!
The narrator says, EVERYONE'S WASHED THEIR HANDS
AND THEY'RE READY TO EAT.
The kids enter the dining room.
Roman says, WOW, IT'S LOVELY.
The kids sit around the table.
The narrator asks, DO YOU ALL LIKE YOUR LEEK
BADGES?
Saffi says, I THINK THE BADGE IS REALLY
NICE.
Roman says, AND IT'S GREEN.
GREEN IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE
COLOURS.
The kids wear the leek badges pinned to their shirts.
Lexi asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE FOOD'S
GOING TO BE?
Lily says, THINKING IT MIGHT BE LEEK
SOUP.
The narrator says, OOH, GOOD GUESS, LILY, BUT
IT'S NOT SOUP.
HERE'S MUM WITH THE COOKED
SAUSAGES.
Lily’s mum puts yellow plates of sausages and salad in front of the kids.
Roman says, THAT LOOKS LOVELY.
The narrator says, YES, THEY DO.
THE GLAMORGAN SAUSAGES HAVE
TURNED GOLDEN BROWN IN THE
OVEN.
THEY'RE SERVED WITH LETTUCE AND
CUCUMBER, AND LOOK VERY TASTY.
Saffi says, I THINK IT SMELLS REALLY
NICE.
Lexi says, IT'S A GLAMORGAN SAUSAGE.
LET'S EAT.
The kids eat their sausages.
The narrator says, EARLIER TODAY LEXI'S FRIENDS
WEREN'T TOO KEEN ON THE TASTE
OF LEEKS.
WILL THEY CHANGE THEIR MINDS
WHEN THEY TASTE HER SAUSAGES?
Roman says, I LOVE IT.
Saffi says, I'VE NEVER TRIED THIS, SO
THIS IS A NICE SURPRISE BECAUSE
IT IS REALLY NICE.
Saffi cuts a piece of sausage and eats it. The other kids eat their sausages.
Roman says, YOU'VE DONE A REALLY GOOD JOB
WITH THIS, LEXI, HASN'T SHE?
I'M SURE I'LL BE TRYING THIS
AGAIN ONE DAY.
Lexi asks, CAN YOU GUESS THE SPECIAL
INGREDIENT?
Roman says, LEEK.
Saffi says, I'M GUESSING IT IS LEEK
BECAUSE I'M STARTING TO SEE A
LITTLE FEW GREEN THINGS.
Lily says, I'M THINKING IT WAS CHEESE.
Lexi says, IT WAS ACTUALLY LEEK.
DO YOU LIKE THE TASTE OF THE
LEEK INSIDE MY GLAMORGAN
SAUSAGES?
Roman says, YES, OH, WHEN IT'S IN THE
SAUSAGE IT'S REALLY NICE.
Saffi says, IT'S ONE OF THE NICEST THINGS
I'VE EVER HAD BEFORE.
The narrator says, WHAT A BRILLIANT RESULT,
LEXI.
WELL DONE.
IT LOOKS LIKE THEY DO LIKE THE
TASTE AFTER ALL.
Lexi says, THANKS FOR COMING TO MY WORLD
KITCHEN.
Lexi’s friends say, THANK YOU, LEXI.
The kids all clink glasses.
