(Upbeat theme music)
Children in split screens wearing colourful aprons use pots, pans, bowls, spoons, and other kitchen items as musical instruments. Food is prepared in some of the screens.
Photographs of prepared food dishes appear.
A title in colourful text between an animated fork and knife reads, “My World Kitchen”
A narrator says, WHOSE KITCHEN ARE
WE GOING TO TODAY?
A boy with short black hair wearing a blue button-down shirt opens a lavender coloured front door.
The boy says, HI, MY NAME IS TALIB, WELCOME
TO MY HOUSE, COME IN.
The narrator says, HI, TALIB.
Talib walks down a hallway with yellow walls. He approaches a woman with curly black hair wearing an olive-green dress.
Talib says, THIS IS MY MUM.
Talib’s mum says, HELLO.
The narrator says, HI, MUM!
Talib stands in his kitchen which has grey countertops over beechwood cupboards. He stands behind a table in the centre of the kitchen.
A red and white casserole dish and a white cutting board sit on the table
Talib says, TODAY WE'RE GOING TO BE
MAKING A BANANA CURRY BECAUSE
IT'S ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS
TO EAT.
Talib places a green pepper and two shallots on a pink plate.
The narrator says, MUM HAS SHOWN HIM A
VERY SPECIAL WAY TO MAKE BANANA
CURRY.
TALIB'S FAMILY ARE TANZANIAN,
WHICH MEANS THEY COME FROM
TANZANIA.
A colourful map of the world is shown. A red arrow points at Tanzania.
The narrator says, TANZANIA IS A LARGE COUNTRY IN
AFRICA.
AND LOTS OF AMAZING ANIMALS
LIVE THERE, INCLUDING
ELEPHANTS, GIRAFFES, ZEBRAS,
LIONS AND RHINOS.
Two rhinos graze on a vast savannah.
The narrator continues, ALL SORTS OF FOOD GROWS IN
TANZANIA, AND BANANAS ARE ONE
OF THE MOST POPULAR CROPS.
THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES
OF BANANAS, AND A LOT OF SWEET
AND SAVOURY TANZANIAN FOODS
SUCH AS SOUPS, STEWS AND
CURRIES WILL HAVE BANANAS AS
AN INGREDIENT.
A bunch of bananas sits on a crumpled orange cloth. Talib washes his hands.
The narrator says, TALIB'S WASHED HIS HANDS, PUT
ON HIS APRON AND HE'S READY TO
COOK.
Talib says, TODAY I'M GOING TO BE MAKING
A TANZANIAN BANANA CURRY FOR MY
FRIENDS.
The narrator says, AND HE'S INVITED ELLA…
A girl with long curly black hair wearing a blue shirt waves.
The narrator continues, ISAAC…
A boy with neck-length blonde hair wearing a grey button-down shirt waves.
The narrator continues, AND MOHAMMED…
A boy with thick brown hair wearing a yellow and white gingham style button-down shirt waves.
The narrator continues, TO TASTE ONE OF
THE MAIN INGREDIENTS BEFORE
THEY COME ROUND FOR A TANZANIAN
MEAL LATER.
Isaac opens a small cardboard box. A slice of banana sits inside.
The narrator says, WHAT'S THAT?
Mohammad says, I THINK THIS IS A BANANA.
Isaac says, I THINK IT'S A BANANA?
Ella says, BANANA.
The narrator says, YOU'RE ALL RIGHT.
IT'S UNRIPENED GREEN BANANA.
The kids each bite a piece of banana.
Ella says, IT DOESN'T TASTE LIKE NORMAL
BANANA.
Mohammad says, IT'S NOT VERY SWEET.
Isaac says, IT'S UNRIPE.
The narrator says, YOU SHOULD ONLY TASTE A SMALL
AMOUNT FOR THIS SPECIAL TASTE
TEST.
Ella says, I DON'T LIKE IT AS MUCH AS
ORDINARY BANANAS.
The narrator says, UH-OH.
EVERYONE'S NOT TOO SURE ABOUT
THE TASTE OF UNRIPENED BANANA.
LET'S SEE IF TALIB CAN CHANGE
THEIR MINDS.
BECAUSE IT'S ONE OF THE MAIN
INGREDIENTS IN HIS BANANA
CURRY.
YOU'LL ALSO NEED GARLIC CLOVES,
BLACK PEPPER, CUMIN SEEDS, A
GREEN PEPPER, FRESH CORIANDER,
LONG SHALLOTS, WATER, BABY
TOMATOES, BLACK MUSTARD SEEDS,
MEDIUM CURRY POWDER, GROUND
TURMERIC, COCONUT CREAM, GINGER
PASTE AND LEMON.
The ingredients are spread out on a white counter. Talib stands behind the table in his kitchen. All the ingredients sit on the table.
Talib says, FIRST, I'M GOING TO TAKE THE
SHALLOTS AND CUT THE HAIRY BITS
OFF.
THIS IS WHAT LOOKS LIKE A
SQUASHED ONION.
The narrator says, CAREFULLY DOES IT, TALIB.
THEN PEEL OFF THE SKIN.
Talib says, MY MUM TOLD ME HOW TO
COOK THIS MEAL, AND THEY
REALLY LOVE IT.
The narrator asks, WHAT'S NEXT?
Talib says, PEEL THE GARLIC.
The narrator says, IF YOU FIND THIS TRICKY, ASK
A GROWN-UP TO HELP YOU.
NOW POP THEM INTO A PLASTIC
FOOD BAG...
AND BASH THEM WITH A
ROLLING PIN INTO SMALL PIECES.
(Banging)
Talib says, THIS IS FUN, BASHING THE BAG.
The narrator says, REMEMBER YOU CAN WASH THE BAG
OUT AFTERWARDS TO USE IT AGAIN.
THEN TIP EVERYTHING INTO THE
CASSEROLE DISH AND GRIND IN
SOME BLACK PEPPER.
Talib says, NOW I'M GOING TO GET THE
GREEN PEPPERS AND PULL THE
STALK OFF.
The narrator says, JUST PUSH AND PULL APART THE
PEPPER AND TAKE OUT THE SEEDS.
Talib says, WHEN THEY'RE OPENING THE
PEPPERS, IT SOUNDS A LITTLE
CRUNCHY.
Talib pulls apart the green pepper
Talib says, TEAR IT UP INTO SMALL PIECES.
The narrator says, OOH, THAT'S IT.
Talib says, I'M GOING TO PUT ALL THE
GREEN PEPPERS INTO THE BOWL.
I'M GOING TO GET THE TOMATOES
AND CUT THEM WITH THE SCISSORS.
The narrator says, CAREFUL THERE, TALIB.
Talib says, I REALLY LOVE TOMATOES.
Talib cuts baby tomatoes in a cup using safety scissors.
The narrator says, AND ADD THEM TO THE DISH WITH
BLACK MUSTARD SEEDS.
Talib sprinkles mustard seeds into the casserole dish which contains green pepper and tomatoes.
Talib says, I'M GOING TO HAVE ONE PINCH
OF CUMIN SEEDS.
The narrator says, AND SOME MEDIUM CURRY POWDER,
GROUND TURMERIC AND GINGER
PASTE.
Talib says, IT'S TIME FOR MY SPECIAL
INGREDIENT.
The narrator says, AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT IS,
DON'T YOU?
IT'S BANANAS.
An animated banana tree grows over a grey background.
The narrator says, BANANAS ARE THE FRUIT OF THE
BANANA PLANT.
Animated bananas appear on the southern half of the world map.
The narrator continues, BANANAS ARE GROWN IN HOT
COUNTRIES ALL OVER THE WORLD
AND MANY OF THEM COME FROM
TANZANIA.
WHEN BANANAS ARE PICKED FROM
THE PLANT, THEY START OFF GREEN
AND AS THEY RIPEN, TURN A
LOVELY BRIGHT YELLOW.
UNRIPENED GREEN BANANAS HAVE A
SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TASTE TO
RIPENED BANANAS, AND CAN BE
PEELED, CHOPPED AND ADDED TO
LOTS OF SAVOURY DISHES,
INCLUDING SALADS, STEWS AND
BANANA CURRY, JUST LIKE
TALIB'S.
Talib says, I'M USING UNRIPE BANANA
BECAUSE IT'S BETTER WITH THIS
RECIPE.
Talib peels a green banana.
The narrator says, JUST PEEL OFF THE SKIN.
Talib says, I LOVE EATING BANANAS.
BANANAS GROW IN TANZANIA.
YOU HAVE TO COOK UNRIPE BANANAS
OR THEY'RE NOT THAT TASTY.
Several peeled bananas sit on the cutting board.
The narrator says, WHEN YOU'VE PEELED ALL OF THE
BANANAS, CAREFULLY CUT THEM
INTO CHUNKS.
(Knife clicking against the cutting board)
Talib says, THEN I'M GOING TO SCOOP THE
BANANAS INTO THE POT.
The narrator says, SQUEEZE LEMON JUICE ALL OVER
THE BANANAS, AS THIS STOPS THEM
GOING BLACK.
THEN ADD WATER TO COCONUT CREAM
AND MIX IT, MIX IT, MIX IT.
POUR IT INTO THE DISH.
Talib says, NOW I'M GOING TO MIX THE
INGREDIENTS ALL TOGETHER.
I THINK THIS WILL LOOK AMAZING
WHEN IT'S COOKED.
The narrator says, AND POP ON THE LID.
Talib puts a red lid onto the casserole dish.
Talib says, MUM, CAN YOU PUT THE POT INTO
THE OVEN?
Talib’s mum wears white oven mitts. She puts the casserole dish into an oven and closes the door.
The narrator says, IF YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE TALIB'S
BANANA CURRY AT HOME...
CAREFULLY CUT THE ENDS OFF LONG
SHALLOTS, PEEL OFF THE SKIN...
AND POP THEM INTO A PLASTIC
FOOD BAG.
PEEL GARLIC CLOVES
AND ADD THEM TO THE BAG.
THEN BASH WITH A ROLLING PIN.
REMEMBER, YOU CAN WASH THE BAG
OUT AFTERWARDS TO USE IT AGAIN.
TIP INTO A CASSEROLE DISH, ADD
SOME BLACK PEPPER, THEN PUSH
AND PULL APART A GREEN PEPPER.
REMOVE THE SEEDS, TEAR INTO
SMALL PIECES AND ADD TO THE
DISH.
CAREFULLY CHOP UP BABY TOMATOES
IN A JUG...
AND TIP INTO THE POT.
ADD BLACK MUSTARD SEEDS, CUMIN
SEEDS, MEDIUM CURRY POWDER,
GROUND TURMERIC AND GINGER
PASTE.
PEEL UNRIPENED BANANAS.
CAREFULLY CHOP THEM INTO
CHUNKS.
AND ADD TO THE DISH.
SQUEEZE LEMON ALL OVER THE
BANANAS TO STOP THEM FROM GOING
BLACK.
NOW ADD WATER TO COCONUT CREAM
AND MIX IT, MIX IT, MIX IT.
THEN POUR INTO THE DISH, GIVE
IT ANOTHER MIX, AND POP ON THE
LID.
THEN ASK A GROWN-UP TO PUT IT
IN THE OVEN FOR YOU.
Talib puts a circular woven wicker placemat on a dining room table. He sets the table with plates, glasses, and decorative golden jungle animals like a lion, a tiger, and an elephant.
The narrator says, NOW THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME
FOR TALIB TO GET THE TABLE
READY FOR HIS TANZANIAN MEAL.
WOW, LOOK AT THAT.
Talib says, WHEN MY FRIENDS ARRIVE, I'M
GOING TO SAY "JAMBO", WHICH
MEANS "HELLO" IN SWAHILI.
(Doorbell ringing)
The narrator says, JAMBO, TALIB.
SWAHILI IS A LANGUAGE SPOKEN IN
TANZANIA.
WOW, YOUR TABLE LOOKS
BRILLIANT, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL
THOSE GOLDEN ANIMALS.
Talib opens his front door.
Talib says, JAMBO, COME IN!
Talib’s friends say HIYA!
They come into Talib’s house.
The narrator says, HIYA, JAMBO!
EVERYONE'S WASHED THEIR HANDS
AND THEY'RE READY TO EAT.
Ella leads the kids into Talib’s dining room. The kids sit around the dining room table, which sits beside a large window.
Ella says, BEAUTIFUL, BECAUSE MY
FAVOURITE COLOUR'S BLUE.
Isaac says, I LOVE THOSE ANIMALS.
THEY'RE LOVELY.
Talib says, THESE ANIMALS LIVE IN
TANZANIA.
Mohammad asks, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO HAVE?
Talib says, IT'S A SECRET.
The narrator says, AND HERE'S MUM WITH THE
COOKED BANANA CURRY.
The kids cheer, YAAAAAY!
The casserole dish full of cooked curry sits on the table.
Isaac and Ella say, THAT LOOKS AMAZING.
The narrator says, AND IT'S COLOURFUL AND
CREAMY, AND MUM'S EVEN ADDED
SOME FRESH CORIANDER ON TOP.
Light glistens off the light yellow curry. Talib’s mum puts a white dish with a small serving of curry in front of Isaac.
Talib says, THE DISH IS BANANA CURRY.
Talib’s mum puts a plate of flatbread onto the table.
The narrator says, LOOK, MUM'S BROUGHT SOME WARM
CHAPATTIS AND PLAIN YOGURT TO
EAT WITH IT.
Mohammad says, IT LOOKS ABSOLUTELY YUMMY.
The narrator says, EARLIER TODAY, TALIB'S
FRIENDS WEREN'T SURE ABOUT THE
TASTE OF UNRIPENED BANANA.
WILL THEY CHANGE THEIR MINDS
WHEN THEY TASTE IT IN HIS
RECIPE?
The kids eat the curry.
Talib asks, DO YOU LIKE IT?
Mohammad says, YES.
Ella says, YES.
Talib asks Isaac, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Isaac says, IT'S REALLY GOOD.
Mohammad puts a spoonful of yogurt on his plate and eats a piece of chapattis.
Ella says, IT TASTES REALLY GOOD AND IT
HAS VERY NICE FLAVOURS.
The narrator says, LOOKS LIKE MOHAMMED LIKES
THE YOGURT.
Talib says, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE SPECIAL
INGREDIENT IS?
Talib’s friends say, GREEN BANANAS!
Talib asks, DO YOU LIKE THE TASTE IN--
FROM THE BANANA IN MY TANZANIAN
CURRY?
Talib’s friends say, YES!
The narrator says, WELL DONE, TALIB, EVERYONE
LIKES THE TASTE OF UNRIPENED
GREEN BANANA AFTER ALL.
Isaac says, THAT WAS YUMMY, CAN WE HAVE
SECONDS?
Talib says, YES, YOU CAN.
The kids eat curry, yogurt, and chapattis.
Talib says, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO
