Jason puts a square platter on the table. It is filled with sliced plantains and vegetables.
The children say, THANK YOU.

Elsa sets the fishcakes on a tray.

Elsa says, NOW, I'M GOING TO WASH MY HANDS AGAIN.
The narrator says, THAT'S RIGHT. IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING SALT FISH. WHAT'S NEXT?
Elsa says, IT'S TIME TO PUT SOME OIL ON THE FISH CAKES. THE OIL MAKES THE FISH CAKES CRISPY.
Elsa brushes the fishcakes with oil.
The narrator says, THAT'S RIGHT. THEY'LL CHANGE COLOUR WHEN THEY'RE COOKED.
Elsa says, IT'S REALLY FUN, IT'S JUST LIKE PAINTING FOOD.
The narrator says, THEY LOOK BRILLIANT, NOW ASK A GROWN-UP TO HELP YOU.
Elsa calls, DAD, CAN YOU PUT THEM IN THE OVEN, PLEASE?
Jason says, NO PROBLEM.
Jason picks up the tray and puts them in the oven.
The narrator says, IF YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE ELSA'S GUYANESE FISH CAKES AT HOME, ASK A GROWN-UP TO COOK, COOL AND CHOP POTATOES FOR YOU. ADD BUTTER AND MASH THEM WITH A POTATO MASHER.
Elsa’s hands mix the ingredients on the counter.
The narrator says, ADD PAPRIKA AND CHILI FLAKES, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET ANY IN YOUR EYES, AND A FEW TWISTS OF BLACK PEPPER. PEEL THE PAPERY SKIN OFF TWO GARLIC CLOVES.
Elsa uses a garlic press.
The narrator says, AND USE A GARLIC CRUSHER TO CAREFULLY CRUSH THE GARLIC. USE A SPOON TO SCRAPE THE GARLIC OFF, ADD IT TO THE POTATO MIXTURE AND MIX IT, MIX IT, MIX IT. ASK A GROWN-UP TO PREPARE SOME SALT FISH FOR YOU. CHECK IT FOR BONES AND THEN SHRED IT UP JUST LIKE THIS.
Elsa uses two forks to break up the fish.
The narrator says, TIP THE FISH INTO THE POTATO MIXTURE AND DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING SALT FISH. THEN MIX IT ALL AGAIN. TEAR A BUNCH OF CHIVES IN HALF, ADD THEM TO A JUG AND USE SCISSORS TO CAREFULLY CUT THEM UP. ADD THESE TO THE BOWL AND MIX IT, MIX IT, MIX IT. TAKE A SPOONFUL OF THE MIXTURE AND USE YOUR HANDS TO SHAPE IT. PUT THE FISHCAKES ONTO BAKING PAPER, ON AN OILED BAKING TRAY.
Balls of fishcake fill up a tray.
The narrator says, AND CARRY ON UNTIL YOU'VE USED UP ALL THE MIXTURE. AND DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS AGAIN. BRUSH VEGETABLE OIL ALL OVER THE FISH CAKES. AND THEN ASK A GROWNUP TO PUT THEM INTO THE OVEN FOR YOU.
Elsa sets a table and puts out flowers.
The narrator says, NOW, THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME FOR ELSA TO GET THE TABLE READY FOR HER VERY SPECIAL GUYANESE MEAL.
Elsa holds a pineapple-shaped glass.
Elsa says, IT'S TRADITIONAL IN GUYANA TO OFFER YOUR FRIENDS A DRINK WHEN THEY ARRIVE.
[Doorbell ringing]
Elsa says, THEY'RE HERE.
The narrator says, WELL DONE, ELSA. YOUR GUYANESE-THEMED TABLE LOOKS FANTASTIC AND THOSE PINEAPPLE-SHAPED CUPS ARE BRILLIANT.
Elsa opens a front door. Ava, Jessica, and Archie are there.
The children say, HI, ELSA.
Elsa says, HI, COME IN.
The narrator says, NOW, EVERYONE'S WASHED THEIR HANDS AND THEY'RE READY TO EAT.
Jessica says, WOW. THAT'S LOVELY, ELSA.
Everyone sits at the table.
Elsa says, THIS IS A SPECIAL PINEAPPLE DRINK.
Everyone raises their glasses.
They all say, YAY.
The narrator says, HOW COOL IS THAT?
Jessica says, MM, THIS IS DELICIOUS, ELSA.
Elsa asks, JESSICA, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY DECORATIONS?
Jessica says, I LIKE THE PINEAPPLE CUP AND ALL THESE FLOWERS.
Elsa asks, ARCHIE, DO YOU LIKE THE TABLE AS WELL?
Archie says, I LIKE THE LEAVES AND ALL THE COLOURS.
Elsa asks, YOU ALL READY TO EAT?
They all cry, YEAH!
Jason comes in with plates.
The narrator says, AND HERE COMES DAD WITH THE COOKED AND SLIGHTLY CALLED FISH CAKES. WELL DONE, ELSA. THE FISH CAKES LOOK WONDERFUL, GOLDEN, CRISPY AND DELICIOUS.
Jason says, AND I'VE MADE YOU A YUMMY PLANTAIN SALAD.
Jason puts a square platter on the table. It is filled with sliced plantains and vegetables.
The children say, THANK YOU.
The narrator says, AND WELL DONE, DAD. THAT LOOKS REALLY TASTY TOO. EARLIER TODAY, ELSA'S FRIENDS WEREN'T ALL SURE ABOUT THE TASTE AND SMELL OF CHIVES. DO YOU THINK THEY'LL CHANGE THEIR MINDS, WHEN THEY TASTE HER FISH CAKES?
Elsa asks, DO YOU LIKE OUR FISH CAKES?
Jessica says, THEY'RE DELICIOUS.
Archie says, YEAH.
Ava says, THE FISH CAKES ARE LOVELY, ELSA.
Jessica says, THESE ARE REALLY CREAMY AND DELICIOUS. MM.
Jessica eats a forkful.
Archie says, MM.
Elsa says, THIS SALAD IS MADE OF PLANTAIN. THEY'RE LIKE BANANA, BUT A BIT DIFFERENT. YOU GET LOTS OF THEM IN GUYANA.
The children eat.
Ava says, THE PLANTAINS ARE NICE.
Elsa says, THANKS, AVA.
Ava says, THEY TASTE REALLY SWEET AS WELL.
Elsa asks, JESSICA, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE SPECIAL INGREDIENT IS?
Jessica says, I THINK THE SPECIAL INGREDIENT WAS CELERY.
Ava says, I THINK IT WAS LIME.
Archie says, I THOUGHT IT WAS SPRING ONIONS.
Elsa says, IT WAS NONE OF THOSE; IT WAS CHIVES.
Jessica says, OH, YUM-YUM.
Elsa says, DO YOU LIKE THE TASTE NOW THEY'RE COOKED?
Archie says, YEAH, THEY'RE MUCH BETTER COOKED.
The narrator says, IT LOOKS LIKE EVERYONE LIKES THE TASTE OF CHIVES, WHEN THEY'RE IN YOUR COOKED FISH CAKES.
Elsa says, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY WORLD KITCHEN.
