Children smile as they hit bowls and pots. A boy with short blond hair bangs two metal strainers together. A girl with brown hair bangs two pot lids together. A boy with short brown hair bangs measuring cups. A girl with black hair hits a bowl with a rolling pin. A girl dances as she hits the side of a bowl. Photographs of food appear.

[Rhythmic music plays]

Text reads “My World Kitchen.”

A narrator says, WHOSE KITCHEN
ARE WE GOING TO TODAY?

A girl with black hair in two small pigtails opens a blue door. She wears a pink shirt over an orange blouse and orange pants.

[Upbeat music plays]

Pippa says, HI, I'M PIPPA.
WELCOME TO MY HOUSE.
COME IN.

THIS IS MY MUM, ROSE.

Rose smiles and waves. She wears a black shirt and wears her black hair loose over her shoulders.

Rose says, HI.

Pippa says, TODAY, WE'RE GOING TO COOK
NYAMA, BECAUSE I LOVE IT.

The narrator says, PIPPA'S MUM HAS
SHOWN HER A VERY SPECIAL WAY
TO MAKE NYAMA, WHICH SHE CAN
DO BY HERSELF.

PIPPA'S MUM IS ZIMBABWEAN, AND
SHE COMES FROM ZIMBABWE.

An animated red arrow points to Zimbabwe on a colourful world map.

The narrator explains, ZIMBABWE IS A
COUNTRY IN SOUTHERN AFRICA.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST WATERFALLS
IN THE WORLD, VICTORIA FALLS,
CAN BE FOUND THERE.

Lions walk away from a watering hole.

The narrator says, MUCH OF ZIMBABWE IS COVERED
BY TROPICAL GRASSLAND CALLED SAVANNAH.

AND LOTS OF ANIMALS LIVE THERE,
INCLUDING LIONS, LEOPARDS,
ELEPHANTS, AND HIPPOS.

ZIMBABWEAN FOOD MARKETS SELL
MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF FRUIT
AND VEGETABLES TO MAKE
TRADITIONAL RECIPES SUCH AS
DOVI AND NYAMA.

PIPPA HAS WASHED HER HANDS, PUT
ON HER APRON, AND SHE'S READY
TO COOK.

[Water splashes]

Pippa says, I'M MAKING NYAMA FOR
MY FRIENDS.

The narrator says, AND SHE'S INVITED A
NNABEL, AVTAR, AND ZAHRA TO TASTE
ONE OF THE MAIN INGREDIENTS BEFORE
THEY COME ROUND FOR A VERY
SPECIAL ZIMBABWEAN MEAL LATER.

WHAT'S THAT?

Annabel picks up a small green piece of a vegetable. Annabel has white hair in two braids. She wears a light blue jacket over a pink shirt.

Annabel says, KIND OF GREEN AND CRINKLY.

Avtar wears a navy blue sweater over a white shirt. He wears his short black hair parted on the left.

Avtar says, IT'S GOT, LIKE, WHITE STRIPES
ON IT.

Zahra wears a red shirt. Her black hair is pulled up in a bun away from her face.

Zahra says, IT FEELS SMOOTH AND LUMPY.

The narrator says, MM.
WHAT DOES IT SMELL LIKE?

Annabel says, DOESN'T REALLY SMELL
OF ANYTHING.

Avtar says, IT SMELLS LIKE FLOWERS.

The narrator says, IT'S NOT A FLOWER.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

Annabel, Avtar and Zahra taste the food.

Annabel says, IT TASTES LIKE A LEAF.

Avtar says, IT'S REALLY HARD TO CHEW.

Zahra says, I THINK IT TASTES A BIT BITTER.

Annabel says, I THINK IT'S A SPROUT.

The narrator says, IT'S NOT A SPROUT.

Avtar says, IT MIGHT BE CABBAGE.

Zahra says, I THINK IT'S CABBAGE.

The narrator says, WELL DONE.
IT'S PART OF A SPECIAL CABBAGE
PLANT CALLED SPRING GREENS.

Annabel says, KIND OF LIKE IT.

The narrator replies, GOOD.

Avtar says, I REALLY DON'T LIKE
THE TASTE.

The narrator says, THAT'S A SHAME.

Zahra says, I DON'T LIKE IT.
IT DOESN'T TASTE THAT GOOD.

The narrator says, OH, DEAR.
NOT EVERYONE LIKES THE TASTE.

BUT LET'S SEE IF PIPPA CAN
CHANGE THEIR MINDS, BECAUSE
SPRING GREENS ARE ONE OF THE
INGREDIENTS IN HER RECIPE.

Ingredients appear as the narrator lists them.

The narrator says, YOU'LL ALSO NEED CHERRY
TOMATOES, SHALLOTS, VEGETABLE
STOCK POWDER, BLACK PEPPER,
COOKED CHICKEN PIECES, WARM
WATER, GINGER PUREE, TOMATO
PUREE, MILD CURRY POWDER, AND
GARLIC PUREE.

SO, WHAT'S FIRST, PIPPA?

Pippa says, FIRST, I'M GOING TO PUT MY
STOCK POWDER IN THE WARM WATER.

The narrator says, ADD SOME MILD CURRY
POWDER. SQUEEZE OUT SOME TOMATO
PUREE AND ADD THIS TO THE JUG, TOO.

Pippa says, I'M PUTTING ALL OF THESE
INGREDIENTS IN TO MAKE STOCK.

Pippa tips a spoonful of puree into a mixing cup.

[Plop]

Pippa says, NOW, I'M GOING TO PUT THE
GARLIC IN.

The narrator says, THEN DO THE SAME
WITH SOME GINGER PUREE.
MIX IT, MIX IT, MIX IT!

[Splashing]

Pippa says, NOW, I'M GOING POUR IN ALL OF
THIS INTO MY CASSEROLE POT.

[Splashing]

The narrator says, ADD SOME CHERRY
TOMATOES TO THE EMPTY JUG AND
CAREFULLY CUT THEM UP.

Pippa uses safety scissors to cut tomatoes in the mixing cup.

Pippa says, I'VE BEEN TO ZIMBABWE THREE
TIMES WHEN I WAS A LITTLE BABY.

THERE'S LOTS OF ANIMALS.
THEY HAVE ELEPHANTS, LIONS,
CHAMELEONS, AND THEY ALSO HAVE
LOTS OF GIRAFFES AND CROCODILES.

The narrator says, TIP THE CHOPPED TOMATOES
INTO THE CASSEROLE DISH AS WELL.

Pippa says, I'M CUTTING SOME SHALLOTS.

The narrator says, CAREFULLY CUT THE ENDS
OFF A SHALLOT. PEEL OFF THE PAPERY SKIN.
THEN DO THE SAME WITH YOUR OTHER SHALLOT.

THEN CAREFULLY CUT THE SHALLOTS
IN HALF AND CHOP THEM INTO PIECES.

[Peeling, cutting]

Pippa says, THE SHALLOTS GIVE A
REALLY GOOD FLAVOUR TO THE NYAMA.

The narrator says, ADD YOUR SHALLOTS TO
THE CASSEROLE DISH.

Pippa says, NOW, IT'S TIME FOR MY VERY
SPECIAL INGREDIENT.

The narrator says, AND YOU KNOW WHAT
THAT IS, DON'T YOU? IT'S SPRING GREENS.

SPRING GREENS ARE THE LEAVES OF
A SPECIAL YOUNG CABBAGE PLANT.

THE LEAVES ARE PICKED BEFORE
THE CABBAGE IS FULLY GROWN,
WHEN THE LEAVES ARE STILL LOOSE
ON THE PLANT.

THE LEAVES ARE COOKED AND USED
AS AN INGREDIENT IN MANY
DIFFERENT RECIPES.

IT'S THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE
GROWN IN THE VEGETABLE GARDENS
OF PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN ANCIENT
GREECE A VERY, VERY LONG TIME AGO.

Pippa says, NOW, I'M GOING TO BREAK MY
SPRING GREENS IN LITTLE PARTS.

The narrator says, THAT'S IT.
TEAR THE SPRING GREENS INTO
SMALL PIECES.

[Tearing]

The narrator says, KEEP TEARING, PIPPA.

Pippa says, THIS IS THE FUN PART OF THE
RECIPE. I REALLY HOPE MY FRIENDS LIKE
THIS MEAL.

[Tearing]

Pippa says, NOW, IT ALL GOES IN THE
CASSEROLE POT.

I'M GOING TO COLLECT MY CHICKEN
FROM THE FRIDGE.

The narrator says, PIPPA'S MUM HAS COOKED,
COOLED, AND CUT UP SOME CHICKEN
FOR HER TO USE.

Pippa says, GOING TO PUT MY COOKED
CHICKEN INTO MY CASSEROLE.

[Grinding]

The narrator says, ADD SOME TWISTS OF
BLACK PEPPER AND MIX IT, MIX IT,
MIX IT! WOW.

THAT LOOKS GOOD ALREADY.

Pippa asks, MUM, CAN YOU COME AND PUT
THIS IN THE OVEN, PLEASE?

Rose says, OOH, LOOKS NICE.

The narrator says, DON'T FORGET TO
POP THE LID ON TOP.

Rose carries the pot to the oven.

[Thump]

The narrator says, IF YOU'D LIKE TO MAKE
PIPPA'S ZIMBABWEAN NYAMA AT HOME,

FIRST, ADD STOCK POWDER AND
MILD CURRY POWDER TO WARM WATER.

MEASURE OUT TOMATO PUREE AND
ADD THIS, TOO.

THEN ADD GARLIC PUREE...
AND GINGER PUREE.

AND MIX IT, MIX IT, MIX IT!

POUR IT INTO A CASSEROLE DISH.
CAREFULLY CUT CHERRY TOMATOES
INTO PIECES, LIKE THIS, AND ADD
THEM TO THE CASSEROLE DISH.

CAREFULLY CUT THE ENDS OFF TWO
SHALLOTS. PEEL OFF THE PAPERY SKIN.
CAREFULLY CUT THEM IN HALF AND
THEN INTO SMALL PIECES. ADD THE
CHOPPED SHALLOTS TO THE CASSEROLE DISH.

TEAR SPRING GREENS INTO SMALL
PIECES AND ADD THESE TO THE
CASSEROLE DISH, TOO.

ASK A GROWNUP TO COOK, COOL,
AND CUT UP SOME CHICKEN FOR YOU.
ADD THE CHICKEN TO THE
CASSEROLE DISH.

ADD A FEW TWISTS OF BLACK
PEPPER AND MIX IT, MIX IT, MIX IT!

PUT THE LID ON AND ASK A
GROWNUP TO PUT IT IN THE OVEN
FOR YOU.

NOW, THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TIME
FOR PIPPA TO GET THE TABLE
READY FOR HER VERY SPECIAL NYAMA.

[Dishes rattle]

Pippa places bowls and glasses on a zebra-striped tablecloth. She places a small wooden bowl at the corner of a table.

Pippa says, IT'S TRADITIONAL IN
ZIMBABWE TO WASH YOUR HANDS OVER
A BOWL BEFORE WE EAT.

AND I'M GOING TO ASK MY FRIENDS
TO DO THE SAME.

[Doorbell rings]

Pippa says, MY FRIENDS ARE HERE!

The narrator says, WELL DONE, PIPPA.
YOUR ZIMBABWEAN-THEMED TABLE
LOOKS FANTASTIC, AND THE ZEBRA
STRIPES REALLY DO STAND OUT.

Pippa opens the door.

Pippa says, HI, GUYS!

Avtar, Annabel and Zahra say, HI, PIPPA!

Pippa says, COME IN!

[Door closes]

The narrator says, NOW, EVERYONE'S WASHED
THEIR HANDS, AND THEY'RE READY TO EAT.

Annabel asks, WHY IS THERE A BROWN BOWL
HERE, PIPPA?

Pippa says, THIS IS A TRADITIONAL THING
IN ZIMBABWE, TO WASH OUR HANDS
OVER THE BOWL. AND MY MUM'S GOING
TO HELP US.

Annabel and Pippa hold their hands over the wooden bowl. Rose pours water from a clear jug over their hands.

The narrator says, WHAT A GREAT WAY TO
MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE NICE AND CLEAN
BEFORE YOU EAT.

Pippa asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY TABLE?

Avtar says, I THINK IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL.

Annabel says, I REALLY LIKE THE RIBBONS,
BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL COLOURFUL.

Zahra says, I LIKE THE GIRAFFE, BECAUSE
I LIKE THE WAY IT'S SURROUNDED BY
ALL THE PLANTS. I THINK IT ALL
LOOKS BEAUTIFUL.

Pippa says, THANK YOU.
IS EVERYBODY REALLY HUNGRY?

Avtar, Zahra, and Annabel say, YEAH!

The narrator says, LET'S HOPE SO, BECAUSE
MUM'S BACK WITH THE COOKED AND
SLIGHTLY COOLED NYAMA.

Rose puts the pot of Nyama on the table.

The narrator says, THAT LOOKS REALLY
DELICIOUS, AND THE SPRING GREENS
HAVE ADDED SOME WONDERFUL COLOUR.

MUM'S PREPARED SOME SADZA,
A DUMPLING MADE FROM MAIZE
FLOUR AND OFTEN EATEN IN
ZIMBABWE WITH NYAMA.

Zahra says, IT SMELLS REALLY GOOD.

Pippa says, USE YOUR FINGERS.
IT'S MUCH EASIER. I'LL SHOW YOU
HOW TO DO IT.

Pippa dips a piece of her sadza into the nyama in her bowl.

The narrator says, YES, DIG IN WITH YOUR
HANDS, EVERYONE, BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE
EAT THIS WAY IN ZIMBABWE.

EARLIER TODAY, PIPPA'S FRIENDS
WERE NOT ALL THAT KEEN WHEN
THEY TRIED SPRING GREENS.

DO YOU THINK THEY'LL LIKE THE
TASTE OF IT IN HER NYAMA?

Pippa asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK, GUYS?

Annabel says, REALLY GOOD.

Zahra says, THE SAUCE IS DELICIOUS.

Pippa says, I LIKE IT, TOO.

Avtar says, IT TASTES FANTASTIC, PIPPA.

Annabel says, THE BEST THING ABOUT IT IS
ALL OF IT.

Pippa says, THANK YOU.

The narrator says, WOW.
THEY ALL LOVE IT, PIPPA.
WELL DONE.

Pippa asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE
SPECIAL INGREDIENT IS?

Annabel says, CABBAGE.

Avtar says, CABBAGE.

Pippa asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE SPECIAL
INGREDIENT IS?

Zahra sasy, I THINK IT'S CABBAGE, TOO, PIPPA.

Pippa says, THE SPECIAL INGREDIENT IS
SPRING GREENS.

The narrator says, SPRING GREENS ARE THE
LEAVES OF A SPECIAL CABBAGE PLANT, SO
EVERYONE'S RIGHT.

Pippa asks, DO YOU LIKE THE TASTE OF THE
SPRING GREENS IN MY NYAMA?

Zahra says, YEAH, I LIKE IT, PIPPA.

Annabel says, I LIKED THEM BEFORE, BUT
I REALLY LIKE THEM NOW.

Avtar says, SPRING GREENS TASTE GOOD.

The narrator says, GREAT WORK, PIPPA.
IT LOOKS LIKE EVERYONE REALLY
LIKES THE TASTE OF SPRING
GREENS NOW.

Pippa says, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO
MY WORLD KITCHEN.

Pippa smiles.
