Transcript: Self-compassion
A title reads "TVO Kids presents."
In animation, the opening of the show rolls.
As the sun comes up between the mountains, colourful letters with different mood facial expressions form the name of the show. It reads "How do you feel?"
Akin is in his early teens, with slightly long braided brown hair and wears a white sweater and black pants.
Akins sits behind a table in his backyard.
He says OH, HEY GUYS! CHECK IT OUT!
He shows a colourful representation of his backyard inside a cardboard box.
He says I'M BUILDING A DIORAMA.
IT STILL NEEDS WORK, BUT YOU
CAN'T RUSH THE PROCESS.
GOTTA WAIT FOR THIS PAINT
TO DRY.
I LOVE MAKING MINIATURES, BUT
IT TAKES A LOT OF PATIENCE
AND A LOT OF ME FORGIVING
THESE CLUMSY HANDS.
I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE DOING
YOUR BEST.
WORKING ON DETAILED, TINY,
TEENY, INSEE WEENIE ART PROJECTS
REMINDS ME HOW IMPORTANT IT IS
TO PRACTICE SELF-COMPASSION.
SELF-COMPASSION IS WHEN WE
DECIDE TO BE KIND TO OURSELVES,
LIKE WE'D BE KIND TO
A FRIEND.
FOR EXAMPLE, IF I MAKE A MISTAKE
ON MY DIORAMA,
INSTEAD OF THINKING...
OH, NO!! I CUT DOWN THE
LITTLE TREE
WITH MY BIG CLUMSY SCISSORS.
AKIN, HOW COULD YOU?!?
I CAN CHOOSE TO BE KIND TO
MYSELF INSTEAD.
THINKING SOMETHING LIKE...
IT'S TOO BAD ABOUT THE
LITTLE TREE,
BUT EVERYONE MAKES
MISTAKES SOMETIMES!
PLUS, THOSE SCISSORS WERE
WAY TOO BIG!
NOW, WE KNOW.
Holding smaller scissors, he says NOW, WE KNOW.
Then, he sits and says NEXT TIME YOU FEEL THOSE
NEGATIVE THOUGHTS COMING ON,
TRY TO CHOOSE KINDNESS INSTEAD.
IT FEELS GOOD TO BE ON YOUR
OWN TEAM.
[chime]
He high-fives with a miniature of himself inside the box.
Music plays as the end credits roll.
