Title: Wild Kratts.

People sing, WILD KRATTS!

In outer space, the Earth spins. A vast forest grows on the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

Chris says, IN NORTH AMERICA, THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS ARE A RANGE OF ROLLING GREEN HILLS WITH AN AMAZING ECOSYSTEM WINDING ALONG THEIR BASE.

The Kratt brothers stand in a knee-deep stream. Chris wears a green shirt and grey pants. His grey hair is short. Martin has short blond hair and wears a navy blue shirt.

[Upbeat music plays quietly; water splashes gently]

Chris says, WE'RE HERE IN A COLD CLEAR, APPALACHIAN STREAM. IT'S US, THE KRATT BROTHERS. I'M CHRIS.

Martin says, I'M MARTIN. AND THIS EXACTLY WHERE YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING FOR THE LARGEST SALAMANDER IN NORTH AMERICA. THE CHALLENGE IS, THE ROCKS ARE SLIPPERY, AND THE CURRENT'S FAST.

Martin holds out his arms and walks slowly in ankle-deep water. Chris crouches in the stream.

[Splashing]

Chris says, ANOTHER CHALLENGE IS, THIS SALAMANDER IS REALLY WELL CAMOUFLAGED.

The silhouette of a large salamander stands still beneath the water's surface.

Chris says quietly, MARTIN, BY YOUR FOOT!

Martin picks up the olive brown salamander and puts it in Chris's plastic container.

[Water splashing, cheering]

Martin says, HELLBENDER!

Chris says, AWESOME!

[Laughter, upbeat music plays]

Chris and Martin crouch beside the container on the ground before them.

Martin says, OH YEAH! NOW LET'S GET A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS HELLBENDER.

Martin picks up the salamander and puts it back into the water in the container.

[Water splashing]

Martin says, WHOA! AH, SO SLIMY! ALL THAT MUCUS, RIGHT?

Chris says, YEAH...

Martin says, AND FLAT. THE BODY'S SO FLAT. SO STREAMLINED FOR LIFE IN THESE FAST-MOVING RIVERS.

Video footage shows the salamander walking on the bottom of the stream and swimming in the shallow water.

[Water bubbling]

Chris says, AND THE TAIL IS FLAT THE OTHER WAY - UP AND DOWN - SO THAT IT CAN PROPEL THE SALAMANDER THROUGH THE WATER. THEY CAN EVEN SWIM UPSTREAM.

Martin says, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF PREDATORS AFTER THESE HELLBENDERS. MINK, BLUE HERON, OTTERS, SO SOMETIMES THEY GOTTA MAKE A FAST GETAWAY.

Video footage shows a mink, a blue heron, and an otter.

[Zapping, water bubbling, stream splashing]

Chris says, SEE HOW THEY HAVE THAT REALLY BROAD HEAD? WELL THE MOUTH RUNS ALL ALONG THAT FRONT PART, SO THEY HAVE A BIG MOUTH THAT CAN OPEN REALLY WIDE.

Martin says, AND THAT'S FOR GULPING CRAYFISH. AND NOW, AGAINST THIS BACKGROUND, YOU CAN REALLY SEE THE COLORATION WHICH GIVE IT THE POWER OF CAMOUFLAGE IN THIS SANDY, ROCKY, RIVER BOTTOM.

Martin and Chris walk beside the stream.

[Upbeat music plays]

Martin says, HELLBENDERS AND OTHER SALAMANDERS ARE SUCH COOL CREATURES.

Chris says, AND THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT KINDS, WITH AMAZING CREATURE POWERS.

Martin says IMAGINE, IF WE HAD SALAMANDER POWERS!

Martin and Chris ask, WHAT IF?

They jump and change into cartoon versions of themselves. Martin wears a blue jacket over a white shirt, and Chris wears a green jacket over a white shirt. Both wear beige shorts and purple hiking boots.

[Energetic theme music plays]

A person sings, ON ADVENTURE WITH THE COOLEST CREATURES, FROM THE OCEANS TO THE TREES.

Chris swings on a vine. He lands on a large orange flower. Martin rides on a bee.

[Whoosh]

The person sings, THE BROTHERS KRATT ARE GOING PLACES, YOU NEVER GET TO SEE. HANGING WITH THEIR CREATURE FRIENDS, GET READY IT'S THE HOUR.

[Beeping]

The person sings, WE'RE GONNA SAVE SOME ANIMALS TODAY WITH CREATURE POWER!

GONNA GO WILD WITH WILD KRATTS GONNA GO WILD WILD WILD KRATTS. WILD KRATTS!

Chris and Martin use discs to activate creature powers.

[Electronic whooshing]

The person sings, GONNA GO WILD WITH WILD KRATTS GONNA GO WILD WILD WILD!

CHEETAH SPEED AND LIZARD GLIDE, FALCON FLIGHT AND LION PRIDE.

[Whoosh]

The person sings, GONNA GO WILD WITH WILD KRATTS, GONNA GO WILD WILD WILD KRATTS, WILD KRATTS!

An alligator snaps at Martin. Martin runs into a male lion. Chris flies into a tree.

[Snapping, whoosh]

The person sings, GONNA GO WILD WITH WILD KRATTS, GONNA GO WILD WILD WILD KRATTS. GO WILD WILD WILD KRATTS!

Text reads, “Wild Kratts.” The text for the word “Wild” is yellow. The text for “Kratts” is red.

Title: Wild Kratts.
Episode title: Salamander Streaming.

Martin narrates, SALAMANDER STREAMING.

In the middle of a stream, an orange salamander climbs onto a mossy rock and then jumps back into the stream.

Text reads, “Created by Martin Kratt, Chris Kratt. Written by Martin Kratt. Directed by Chris Kratt, Louis Champagne.”

Beside the stream, Koki, Martin and Aviva sit on top of the head of the Tortuga and watch a movie projected on a giant screen in front of the forest. In the movie, a huge dinosaur chases an elephant and a turtle. The elephant and turtle run on two legs and wear clothing. Jimmy arrives carrying a large bowl of popcorn.

[Martin, Aviva, Koki laughing, chomping, lively music plays, slide whistles]

Jimmy says, GOT SOME FRESH POPPETY-POP-POPCORN!

Koki says, NOW THIS IS HOW YOU STREAM AN AFTERNOON MOVIE.

[Footsteps pattering, jaws snapping]

Chris sits on a nearby tree branch. A red squirrel runs down the trunk, across his lap, and onto the branch. The squirrel stops and nibbles on a nut.

Chris says, HEY, DON'T EAT TOO MANY OF THOSE! THEY'RE FROM THE ENDANGERED BUTTERNUT TREE.

The red squirrel runs up the branch and behind Aviva, Martin, Koki, and Jimmy while they watch the movie.

[Laughter]

Martin says, FUNNY MOVIE!

The red squirrel runs into the Tortuga on a thick cable to a grey metal box with glowing lights. The squirrel puts the nut into an open compartment in the box and runs away. Sparks fly around the nut. Outside, the movie projector turns off.

[Upbeat music plays, slide whistle, sniffing, sparks crackling, whooshing]

Martin says, WHAT?

Aviva says, HEY!

Koki says, OH NO!

Jimmy asks, WHAT'S HAPPENING?

The head of the Tortuga lowers to the ground.

[Whirring, thumping]

Aviva, Martin, Koki, and Jimmy say, WHOA!

Martin asks, WHAT IS GOING ON, KOKI?

Koki runs to a panel and pushes buttons.

[Whooshing, tapping, tense music plays]

Koki says, WE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER! AND THE BACKUP ISN'T RESPONDING!

Aviva says, ALL OUR TECHNOLOGY IS DOWN?

Martin asks, WHAT IN THE CREATURE WORLD?!

Jimmy asks, SO HOW ARE WE FINISHING THE MOVIE?

Koki says, SORRY GANG, I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THE POWER IS DEAD, AND, AND... I HAVE NO ANSWER. NO STREAMING TODAY.

Aviva says, WHAT? REALLY?!

Jimmy asks, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

[Birds chirping]

Chris says, WE CAN STILL STREAM.

Everyone else says, HUH?

Chris says, JUST ANOTHER KIND OF STREAMING... SALAMANDER STREAMING!

Jimmy asks, WHAT'S THAT?

Martin says, OOH, I KNOW!

Martin jumps down, and Chris catches him and spins him.

Martin says, SALAMANDER STREAMING! THEY'RE NOT GETTING IT.

Chris lets Martin go, and they stand side by side on the grass beside the stream.

[Upbeat music plays, quietly]

Chris says, SALAMANDER STREAMING IS GETTING MINIATURIZED, AND GOING DOWN A STREAM LOOKING FOR SALAMANDERS.

Martin says, GOING DOWN A STREAM IN TEENY TINY BOATS, LOOKING FOR SALAMANDERS.

The Kratt brothers say, THAT'S SALAMANDER STREAMING!

Jimmy says, OHHHH, OKAY...

Aviva says, INTERESTING, SOUNDS FUN.

Chris says, IT'S A RACE TO FIND AS MANY SALAMANDERS AS WE CAN, BEFORE WE GET TO THAT BRIDGE.

Chris points to a bridge downriver.

Jimmy asks, IS IT GOING TO BE SCARY OR FUN?

Chris says, THINK OF IT LIKE YOU'RE IN A VIDEO GAME.

Jimmy asks, SO IT'S REAL-LIFE RAFT CHASERS? I'M IN!

Koki says, SERIOUSLY?! WE'VE GOTTA FIX THE TORTUGA! OUR HEADQUARTERS, BASE OF OPERATIONS, HOW WE TRAVEL THE WORLD?!

Martin says, AW, C'MON KOKI. COME SALAMANDER STREAMING WITH US, JUST FOR A LITTLE BIT.

Koki says, NO! I'VE GOT TO GET THE TORTUGA RUNNING AGAIN. BESIDES, SALAMANDERS ARE TOO SLIMY.

Koki pushes buttons on the panel and sparks crackle.

[Whooshing, typing, zapping]

Beside the stream, Chris, Martin, Aviva, and Jimmy look down at the water.

Martin says, OH, I LOVE SALAMANDERS, NATURALLY. THEY'RE WATER CREATURES.

Jimmy asks, WHAT'S THE DIFF BETWEEN A LIZARD AND A SALAMANDER?

Chris says, I CAN ANSWER THAT.

Chris takes out his creature pod and projects a video of a salamander with glistening skin.

[Beeping, upbeat music plays]

Chris narrates, FIRST OFF, SALAMANDERS AREN'T LIZARDS.

HERE ARE THE DIFFERENCES. SALAMANDERS HAVE SMOOTH LITTLE FINGERS. LIZARDS HAVE CLAWS.

Video footage of salamander fingers and lizard claws appears side by side.

[Whooshing]

Chris narrates, ALSO SALAMANDERS ARE AMPHIBIANS, WHILE LIZARDS ARE REPTILES.

Martin says, BOTH HAVE NOSTRILS FOR BREATHING. BUT SALAMANDERS CAN BREATHE THROUGH SKIN, LIZARDS CAN'T. SOME SALAMANDERS LIVE MOSTLY ON LAND, AND SOME SALAMANDERS LIVE MOSTLY IN WATER. AND NEARLY EVERY SALAMANDER SPENDS SOME OF ITS LIFE IN THE WATER.

Video footage shows a black salamander with orange spots walking on rocks beneath a small waterfall. Chris’s projected video ends.

[Water splashing]

Chris asks, I WONDER IF THERE ARE ANY CLIMBING SALAMANDERS?

Martin says, ONLY SOME SALAMANDERS CLIMB, BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF SWIMMING SALAMANDERS! LET'S GO SALAMANDER STREAMING AND FIND 'EM!

OH, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO USE FOR TEENY TINY BOATS?

Chris says, I KNOW! EACH OF US HAS TO MAKE OUR OWN PERSONALIZED MINI BOAT BEFORE WE MINIATURIZE!

Martin says, GREAT IDEA. THIS'LL BE FUN!

Martin and Chris run toward the forest. Jimmy and Aviva run towards the Tortuga.

Chris asks, HMM...WHAT SHOULD I MAKE MY BOAT OUT OF?

Chris stands with his hands on his hips. Above him, a red squirrel stands on a branch and nibbles a nut. The shadow of a bird passes over the squirrel, and it drops the nut and flees. The nut bounces off Chris’s head.

[Whooshing, slide whistle, bonking, happy music plays quietly]

Chris says, UH...A BUTTERNUT...KAYAK! A BUTTERNUT KAYAK! AND MAPLE SEED PODS! PLUS A TWIG!

Chris ties a seed pod to each end of the twig.

Chris says, THIS WILL BE MY PADDLE.

Martin walks in shin-deep water in the stream. He bends down and watches crayfish on the bottom of the stream. A crayfish wiggles on its back.

Martin says, OOH, A CRAYFISH. OH, AND ANOTHER ONE, SHEDDING ITS EXOSKELETON. CRAYFISH HAVE A SKELETON ON THE OUTSIDE, AN EXTERNAL SKELETON, CALLED AN EXOSKELETON.

The crayfish sheds part of their exoskeleton.

[Popping, water quietly bubbling]

Martin says, YEAH, AS A CRAYFISH GROWS, IT SHEDS THE OLD EXOSKELETON, AND THERE'S A NEW ONE UNDERNEATH. AFTER THE CRAYFISH CRAWLS OUT AND AWAY, IT'S LEFT BEHIND.

Martin picks up the exoskeleton.

Martin says, THE CRAYFISH EXOSKELETON. OH, DOES THAT LOOK LIKE AN EPIC MINI BOAT, OR WHAT?! EVERY BOAT NEEDS A NAME AND I WILL NAME YOU... CRAY-SKEL.

Nearby, Aviva stands behind her portable worktable.

[Aviva giggling]

Aviva says, NOW MARTIN'S EVEN NAMING BOATS.

LEAVES HAVE INTERNAL FLOTATION PROPERTIES, AND I CAN JOIN THEM TOGETHER WITH MY BIOPLASMA MICRO-WELDER INTO...

Aviva welds leaves into a bowl-shaped boat. A small engine hangs off the back.

[Zapping]

Aviva sings, TA-DAAA.

Aviva says, MY LEAFY LONGBOAT!

[Giggling]

Aviva says, I JUST NAMED MINE TOO. SHE'S EVERYTHING I NEED TO WIN THIS SALAMANDER RACE, AND PROGRAM A SALAMANDER POWER SUIT ALONG THE WAY.

Jimmy says, I LIKE THIS ONE!

Jimmy holds up a twig.

Aviva says, UH, JIMMY, THAT WON'T DO. BUT...HOW...ABOUT...THIS?

Aviva twists the twig. She builds a small raft with a white sail. Two ropes hang off the sale.

[Whooshing]

Jimmy says, WOW!

Aviva says, PULL ON THIS ROPE TO CONTROL THE SAIL. BUT NOT ON THIS ONE, BECAUSE THIS ROPE KEEPS THE RAFT TIED TOGETHER.

Jimmy says, THANKS, AVIVA! I LOVE IT!

Jimmy puts his raft beside Aviva’s Leafy Longboat, Martin’s Cray-skel, and Chris’s kayak and paddle.

Chris says, OKAY, WE'LL RACE FROM HERE, DOWN TO THAT BRIDGE. EXPAND MINIATURIZER.

Chris flips the miniaturizer onto the grass, and it expands.

[Whooshing, upbeat music plays]

Chris says, AND NOW WE MINIATURIZE.

Chris, Martin, Aviva and Jimmy shrink.

[Beeping]

Martin says, TO THE TEENY-TINY BOATS!

They run to their boats and hop in.

[Whooshing, upbeat music plays]

Chris says, ON YOUR MARKS!

Aviva says, GET SET...

Martin says, GO!

Jimmy says, UH... HOW ARE WE GONNA GET TO THE STREAM NOW?

Martin says, UH...

Martin, Chris, and Aviva shout, KOOOKIIII!!

On the Tortuga, Koki puts a tool in her toolbox. She stands and puts her hands on her hips.

[Clinking]

Koki says, OUR H.Q. IS DOWN AND THEY'RE PLAYING.

The tiny boats bounce on the ground as Koki walks to them.

[Rustling, gentle music plays]

Koki says YOUR RACE LOOKS FUN, BUT I GOT TO FIX THE TORTUGA. WHAT IF WE GET IN A JAM? THERE'D BE NO WAY TO HELP.

Koki picks up the boats.

[Martin chuckling]

Martin says, THANKS, KOKI.

In the stream, Koki holds a small branch in front of the line of small boats.

Koki says, ON-YOUR-MARKS-GET-SET GO.

Martin says, WOO HOO, YEAH!

[Upbeat music plays, cheering]

Martin, Chris, Aviva, and Jimmy shout, SALAMANDER STREAMING!

Martin says, YEAH, TO THE STREAM. SALAMANDERS, AHOY!

Chris says, I LOVE THIS KIND OF STREAMING.

[Water splashing]

Martin says, ME TOO! CAUSE I REALLY LOVE SWIMMING SALAMANDERS. WOO HOO!

Jimmy says, ACTUALLY, I THINK THIS IS FUN. HOIST THE MAINSAIL!

Jimmy pulls the rope that holds his raft together.

[Creaking]

Jimmy says, UH-OH! AH!

Jimmy’s raft falls apart. Jimmy clings to a small stick.

[Splashing]

Jimmy says, HELP! THIS WATER IS...WET! WELL, AT LEAST I STILL HAVE A STICK BOAT.

He grabs a small rock in the middle of the stream. An orange and yellow salamander with a black stripe and small black spots climbs onto a nearby rock.

Jimmy says, WHOA...A SALAMANDER! HI, LITTLE GUY.

Jimmy points his creature pod at the salamander.

Jimmy says, HEY CHRIS, I FOUND A SALAMANDER. WHAT KIND IS HE?

Chris says, THAT'S A NORTHERN TWO-LINED SALAMANDER. IT HAS A LONG BODY AND TEENY TINY LEGS. AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS RACING STRIPES.

SOMETIMES THEY... JIMMY! LOOK BEHIND YOU! IT'S A SALAMANDER-EATING SALAMANDER! A PREDATORY SPRING SALAMANDER.

A red salamander with a white chin and orange stomach stands on the bank of the stream.

Chris shouts, RRRUUUUNNN!

Jimmy screams, AHHHH!!

Jimmy drops his creature pod and runs across the rocks. The spring salamander chases him.

[Splashing]

Chris says, JIMMY! JIMMY, ARE YOU THERE?

Elsewhere on the stream, Aviva uses her miniature worktable on her Leafy Longboat.

Aviva says, HMMM…BOTH OF THOSE SALAMANDERS HAD THESE FEATURES. ONE, MOIST SKIN. AND TWO, NO CLAWS. THIS IS GOOD INFO FOR A SALAMANDER POWER SUIT.

Jimmy runs to a log on the shore and drops into a hole on top. The spring salamander runs past the log.

[Jimmy panting, serious music plays softly]

Jimmy says, AW...PHEW. THAT WAS CLOSE. BUT I FOUND TWO SALAMANDERS ALREADY. I'M IN THE LEAD. HEY, OH! OH, NO! I DROPPED MY CREATURE POD. HOW AM I GONNA GET OUT OF HERE?

Jimmy looks up at the opening on top of the log. Piles of nuts surround him. Meanwhile, Chris, Martin, and Aviva float in a row on the stream.

Chris says, WELL, JIMMY'S WINNING. HE ALREADY FOUND TWO SALAMANDERS.

Martin says, YEAH, WE GOT TO CATCH UP.

Aviva says, MY TURN NEXT. SEE YA.

The stream forks. Chris floats to his right, and Chris and Aviva float over a small waterfall. They float in different directions.

[Water splashing]

Chris says, I HAVE BRING OUT MY KAYAK TRAINING. CROSS CURRENT PADDLE, EDDY REVERSE!

Chris paddles around small rocks. On the shore, a red squirrel watches the nut boat float past.

[Water splashing]

Chris says, OH HO, I LOVE BEING ON THE WATER. IN MY PERSONALIZED KAYAK, I WILL FIND SALAMANDERS. NOTHING CAN STOP ME. I'LL JUST SLIDE INTO A ROLL AND CHECK FOR SALAMANDERS UNDERWATER.

The squirrel runs to a log crossing over the top of the stream. Chris floats beneath the log and flips his kayak. The squirrel grabs his boat and carries it away from the water, causing Chris to dangle upside down.

Chris says, MMMM-HM-MMM. WHAT'S GOING ON?! WHOA!

At the Tortuga, Koki works on the backup panel.

[Squeaking, Koki sighing]

Koki asks, WHAT IN THE CREATURE WORLD POWERED DOWN THE TORTUGA? IT'S SOMETHING TECHNOLOGICAL THAT I'M JUST MISSING.

[Koki sighing]

On the shore, the red squirrel carries Chris and his boat to the log with the hole on top.

Chris shouting, WHOA, AH, AH... OOO...OOO...OOOH!

The squirrel drops the nut into the log.

[Slide whistle]

Chris shouts, AH...AAAAAHHH....OOOH! AAAH!

Chris crawls out of his kayak between piles of nuts.

[Slide whistle, Chris grunting]

Chris says, YUH!

I'M IN A RED SQUIRREL CACHE. A CACHE BEING THE PLACE WHERE A SQUIRREL HIDES NUTS.

[Chris grunting]

Chris asks, HOW AM I GONNA GET OUT OF HERE?

On the stream, Aviva floats in her Leafy Longboat.

Aviva says, OK, WHAT SALAMANDERS HAVE WE SEEN ON OUR LAST ADVENTURES?

Salamanders appear on Aviva’s worktable screen.

[Electronic zapping]

Aviva says, THE FIRE SALAMANDER AND THE HUMAN FISH .... WAIT A SECOND! I NEVER EVEN PROGRAMMED A SALAMANDER POWER SUIT, BUT WE ALREADY HAVE A LOT OF INFORMATION. BECAUSE CHECK THIS OUT. ALMOST EVERY SALAMANDER SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME BASIC BODY DESIGN. I CAN START WITH THIS, AND MAYBE I CAN MAKE A UNIVERSAL SALAMANDER POWER SUIT!

[Electronic zapping]

Chris appears on Aviva’s screen.

Chris says, THAT'D BE SALAMAZING! AND I THINK I FOUND ONE. A SALAMANDER!

[Dramatic music plays]

Jimmy climbs over the top of a pile of nuts.

Jimmy says, I'M NOT A SALAMANDER. I'M JUST LOST.

Chris says, JIMMY!

Jimmy falls in front of Chris.

[Slide whistles, upbeat music plays]

Jimmy says, UGH! PHEW. HEY, CHRIS.

Martin floats out of a fork in the river, and they float together.

Martin says, AHOY, AVIVA!

Aviva says, MARTIN!

Martin asks, HAVE YOU FOUND ANY SALAMANDERS YET?

Aviva says, NOT YET.

Aviva and Martin float over a Hellbender salamander.

[Gasping]

Aviva says, BUT HEY, LOOK! THAT LOOKS LIKE A CLASSIC SALAMANDER BODY DESIGN. BUT IT'S ALMOST 1 METER LONG! CAN A SALAMANDER BE THAT BIG?!

Martin says, OH YEAH, IT CAN. BUT ONLY IF YOU'VE FOUND THE BIGGEST SALAMANDER IN NORTH AMERICA, THE HELLBENDER. OH! WOW!

[Chuckling]

Martin says, YES! I FOUND ONE TOO.

Aviva says, TELL ME ABOUT THEM. WHERE DO THEY LIVE? WHAT DO THEY EAT?

Martin says, OH, YEAH. THEY LIVE UNDER BIG ROCKS, IN CLEAR FAST-MOVING RIVERS, LIKE THIS ONE - AND THEY EAT CRAYFISH. A HELLBENDER USES SUCTION TO CATCH CRAYFISH.

A Hellbender salamander beneath a rock eats a crayfish.

[Loud chomping]

Aviva says, I'VE GOT TO PLAY THAT BACK IN SLO-MO. THE HELLBENDER OPENS ITS MOUTH QUICKLY, AND THE WATER RUSHES IN, BRINGING THE CRAYFISH INTO THE HELLBENDER'S MOUTH. SUCTION!

Aviva replays the Hellbender catching the crayfish.

[Chomping]

Martin says, UH, DID YOU SAY CRAYFISH?

Martin’s boat disappears into the water.

[Splashing]

Martin screams, AAH!!

Aviva says, GET SOME GOOD INFO!

Martin says, I'M ON IT.

[Splashing, slide whistle]

Martin swims to the Hellbender beneath the rock.

Martin says, HELLBENDER'S ARE BEAUTIFUL, IN AN AWESOMELY UGLY WAY.

[Chuckling]

Martin says, WHOA! AND LOOK AT THOSE FOLDY-FLAPPY-FLAPS. THAT'S WHAT I'LL NAME HIM. FOLDY FLAPPY FLAPS.

On a screen, Aviva says, THAT'S A GREAT NAME, MARTIN, ONE OF YOUR BEST!

[Martin chuckling]

Martin says, THANKS, AVIVA! HEY, FOLDY FLAPPY FLAPS, LIKE EVERY HELLBENDER, BREATHES THROUGH HIS SKIN, ABSORBING OXYGEN OUT OF THE WATER. SO, HAVING FOLDS OF SKIN, GIVES HIM MORE SKIN TO BREATHE WITH.

Aviva says, BREATHING THROUGH SKIN?! THAT'S AN AMAZING ABILITY!

Martin swims up and sits on the Foldy Flappy Flaps’ back. The salamander walks on the bottom of the stream.

[Water bubbling, upbeat music plays]

Martin says, YEAH! AND CHECK THIS OUT. HELLBENDER HAS A STREAMLINE SHAPE. FLAT, WIDE, AND LOW, WHICH GIVES A HELLBENDER THE POWER, TO CRAWL ON THE BOTTOM OF RUSHING STREAMS WITHOUT BEING SWEPT AWAY. EVEN CRAWLING UPSTREAM IN THE STRONGEST CURRENTS.

Aviva says, WOW! THIS IS GREAT STUFF! STREAMLINED FOR WALKING IN RUSHING WATER.

[Beeping]

Martin says, YEAH. HEY, AND DON'T FORGET THE STRONG GRIPPING TOES, WITH NO NAILS OR CLAWS!

At the Tortuga, Koki says, I KNOW EVERY SYSTEM OF THIS SHIP BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS, BUT I'M MISSING SOMETHING! WHAT AM I MISSING?

Koki puts her head on her arms. The red squirrel runs up to her toolbox and then runs away.

On the stream, Aviva says, OKAY! SO THE UNIVERSAL SALAMANDER FEATURES ARE... MOIST SKIN, LONG BODY AND TAIL, TOES WITH NO NAILS OR CLAWS, CAN SWIM IN WATER AND WALK ON LAND.

Aviva zooms in on different features on her screen as she lists them.

[Beeping]

Aviva says, A BODY DESIGN THAT CAN DO BOTH. AND, OF COURSE, WE'VE GOT PLENTY OF VARIETY IN CUTE FACES AND COLORFUL PATTERNS TO SPICE THINGS UP.

The screen displays different salamanders.

[Beeping]

In the log, Chris stands on a pile of nuts. Jimmy balances on his shoulders and reaches for the hole at the top of the log.

[Chris grunting]

Jimmy says, STEADY, ALMOST THERE!

Chris asks, CAN YOU REACH IT?

Jimmy says, JUST A LITTLE HIGHER!

They both fall.

[Slide whistle, thumping]

Both shout, WHOA! UGH! OOOH!

Jimmy says, AWW!

Chris shakes his head.

Chris says, BRRRR! LOOKS LIKE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER WAY OUT. C'MON!

Jimmy and Chris walk into the pile of nuts. Chris pushes a nut and creates an opening to one end of the log. Outside, a green tiger salamander walks past the opening.

[Clunking, gasping, footsteps padding softly]

Chris says, A WAY OUT! WHOA. TIGER SALAMANDER.

[Chuckling]

Chris says, AND IT'S A GREEN ONE TOO!

Jimmy says, WAIT UP, TIGER SALAMANDER!

A red squirrel looks into the log. Jimmy startles and falls backwards.

[Chittering]

Jimmy says, WHOA!!

[Thumping]

The squirrel jumps to the ground and picks up a nut.

[Rustling, nibbling]

Chris says, NOT YOU AGAIN! TIGER SALAMANDER, COME BAAAAACCK! OH, WAIT. YOU'RE SO GREEN. DON'T GO! OH! OUR EXIT IS BLOCKED.

Jimmy asks, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

Chris activates his wrist device. On a rock in the stream, Martin and Aviva look at Martin’s blue creature pod. On the screen, Jimmy hides behind Chris.

[Beeping]

Chris says, MARTIN, AVIVA, COME IN! HELP, I THINK WE'RE BEING HELD CAPTIVE BY A RED SQUIRREL.

Jimmy says, WHO WON'T LET US GO!

Martin turns off his creature pod.

Aviva asks, HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET TO THEM? WE'RE TINY. AND THEY'RE ALL THE WAY UP RIVER, AND OVERLAND IN THE FOREST.

Martin says, HMM. WELL, REMEMBER THE POWER SUIT YOU'RE PROGRAMMING HAS THE POWERS OF SALAMANDERS, WHO ARE AMPHIBIANS.

Aviva says, MEANING THEY CAN MOVE ON LAND AND MOVE IN THE WATER.

Martin says, YEAH, SO LET'S ACTIVATE SALAMANDER POWERS AND RESCUE CHRIS AND JIMMY!

Aviva says, I LOVE THIS PART, SEEING HOW MY SALAMANDER POWER SUIT PROGRAMMING WORKS.

Martin says, UH, OR IF THERE'S A MALFUNCTION.

[Martin laughing]

Aviva punches Martin’s arm.

Aviva says, STOP IT!

Both say, INSERT SALAMANDER POWER DISCS.

[Upbeat music plays]

Both say, TOUCH SALAMANDER.

They touch the Hellbender salamander.

Both say, ACTIVATE SALAMANDER POWERS!

Martin and Aviva grow long tails and elongated faces. Their hands and feet grow.

[Whirring, beeping]

Martin says, OH AVIVA, REMEMBER, YOU ALWAYS GOT TO COME OUT OF THE POWER GLOWING LIKE A SUPERHERO ADVENTURE POSE.

Aviva says, HUH?! OH, YEAH. LIKE THIS!

Aviva poses.

Martin says, NICE! NOW LET'S CRAWL UPSTREAM TO SAVE CHRIS AND JIMMY!

Aviva says, TO THE CREATURE RESCUE!

Aviva and Martin walk on the bottom of the stream.

[Water bubbling, upbeat music plays]

Martin says, WOW, BEING STREAMLINED LIKE A HELLBENDER REALLY WORKS!

Aviva says, GRIP THE BOTTOM AND THE WATER JUST FLOWS OVER US.

On the Tortuga, Koki stands up beside the control panel. She kicks it.

[Drill whirring, loud thumping]

Koki says, AARGH!

A nut bounces off Koki’s head and lands beside her.

[Thudding]

Koki says, HUH?!

A red squirrel scurries across the shell of the Tortuga.

[Upbeat music plays, rustling]

Koki says, WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP THERE?

Koki puts a ladder against the shell of the Tortuga and climbs up.

[Clattering]

Koki says, HMM?

She lifts a panel, and an avalanche of nuts falls on her.

[Clattering, rustling]

Koki screams, AAHHH!!!

Koki says, WHAT IN THE WORLD?

Koki looks into the grey box and picks up a nut.

[Upbeat music continues]

Koki says, HMM?!

Koki pushes a button in the box, and the Tortuga head lifts.

[Beeping, whirring]

Koki says, THAT WAS IT? NUTTIN' BUT SOME NUTS?

In the stream, Martin and Aviva climb up on a rock and look towards the shore.

Martin says, WHOA! HOW DO WE GET TO THAT LOG? HELLBENDERS ARE WATER SPECIALISTS, NOT GREAT AT WALKING ON LAND. AND WE ACTIVATED BY TOUCHING A HELLBENDER.

Aviva says, SO, WE NEED A LAND POWER BOOST. IF WE COULD REACTIVATE WITH A TOUCH OF A LAND SALAMANDER.

[Martin gasping]

Martin asks, LIKE THIS GUY?

A green tiger salamander climbs onto a rock in the stream.

[Rustling]

Aviva says, WOW! WHAT KIND OF SALAMANDER IS THAT?

Martin and Aviva walk in the shallow water and stand beside the salamander.

Martin says, A TIGER SALANDER! OH, AND THE TIGER SALAMANDER IS ONE FAST SALAMANDER! HIS POWERS ARE PERFECT FOR A LAND CROSSING.

Aviva asks, HOW DO WE KNOW RED SQUIRRELS WON'T EAT SALAMANDERS. DOES A SALAMANDER HAVE A DEFENSE?

Martin says, YES, TIGER SALAMANDERS SECRETE A TOXIC SUBSTANCE FROM THEIR TAIL AND RAISE IT AT THE PREDATOR. I THINK THAT RED SQUIRREL WILL LEAVE US ALONE.

Aviva says, THAT SHOULD WORK.

They both touch the tiger salamander.

Both say, BOOST SALAMANDER LAND WALKING POWERS!

[Beeping, Martin chuckling, upbeat music plays]

Martin says, OH YEAH. WE'RE MOVING NOW!

They run towards the log. Martin and Aviva walk behind the red squirrel at the end of the log and climb up to the hole.

[Slide whistle]

Inside the log, Chris paces. Jimmy relaxes against a pile of nuts.

[Chris humming]

Chris says, HEY! THERE'S A BUTTERNUT SEED IN THE SQUIRREL'S CACHE.

Martin looks down through the hole.

Martin says, PSST! CHRIS, JIMMY! WE'RE HERE TO RESCUE YOU.

Jimmy says, AWESOME! BUT WATCH OUT FOR THE SQUIRREL.

Martin turns and puts his tail into the hole.

Martin says, GRAB ON!

Jimmy says, CHRIS, YOU COMING?

Chris glances at the butternut seed.

Chris says, UH, YEAH. BE THERE IN A SECOND.

Jimmy says, OKAY...BUT HURRY!

Jimmy crawls up Martin’s tail.

Chris says, HMM.

Martin says, CHRIS!

Chris crawls up Martin’s tail and sits on his back. Jimmy rides on Aviva’s back.

Martin says, ALRIGHT. LET'S GO!

Aviva and Martin walk away from the log. The squirrel watches them and follows.

[Upbeat music plays]

Jimmy says, YEE-HAAA!! COOL SALAMANDER SUITS!

Aviva says, THANKS!

[Squirrel chittering]

Jimmy says, HUH?! WHY IS THAT RED SQUIRREL CHASING US? AND THERE'S ANOTHER ONE!

Martin looks back at Chris, who has a large bump beneath his shirt.

Martin says, BRO, WHAT DID YOU TAKE?

Chris says, UH...NUTTIN'.

Martin says, UH...WHAT ABOUT THAT BUTTERNUT UNDER YOUR SHIRT?

Chris says, OH YEAH. I WANTED TO GROW A BUTTERNUT TREE TO CLIMB ON. I ONLY TOOK ONE!

Jimmy says, BUT THAT'S WHY SHE'S CHASING US! DROP THE NUT!

Chris says, AW, BUT THEY'LL EAT IT! WE NEED TO PLANT IT TO GROW MORE ENDANGERED BUTTERNUT TREES.

Jimmy says, LET'S GET OUT OF HERE. THEY'RE COMING!

[Squirrel chittering]

In the Tortuga, Koki carries her toolbox through a doorway.

[Whooshing, thunking, Koki humming]

Koki says, YES, POWER IS RESTORED!

[Happy humming]

Koki says, EVERYTHING IS BACK IN WORKING ORDER.

Koki turns on a large screen. On the screen, two red squirrels chase Aviva and Martin.

[Beeping]

Koki says, UH-OH! NOW THEY REALLY NEED THE TORTUGA!

[Aviva panting]

By the stream, Aviva says, ONE MISCALCULATION. TIGER SALAMANDERS ARE PRETTY FAST FOR SMALL AMPHIBIANS, BUT WE'RE NO MATCH FOR RED SQUIRRELS!

Martin says, BUT BECAUSE WE'RE AMPHIBIOUS, WE CAN GO SOMEWHERE SQUIRRELS DON'T LIKE TO, INTO THE WATER! BECAUSE, WE ARE SALAMANDERS. WE ARE AMPHIBIOUS AMPHIBIANS!

[Splashing]

Chris says, UM, BUT I THINK SQUIRRELS CAN SWIM.

A squirrel puts a paw in the water. A miniaturized Tortuga zooms past the squirrels and splashes them.

[Splashing, energetic music plays]

The Tortuga stops by Martin, Chris, Aviva, and Jimmy. Koki opens a hatch on top and climbs out.

[Music stops]

Aviva says, YOU GOT IT GOING, KOKI!

Koki says, YEAH! I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT. IT WAS THOSE TROUBLEMAKING SQUIRRELS.

[Chittering, rustling, gentle music plays]

The squirrels run away from the stream.

Aviva says, WE SHOULD RENAME THIS ADVENTURE, KOKI'S TORTUGA RESCUE.

Koki says, THANKS GUYS, BUT I THINK I MIGHT LIKE SALAMANDER STREAMING. OOH, THERE'S ONE!

A grey salamander with light grey splotches rests on a rock.

Martin says, A MARBLED SALAMANDER! KOKI'S FOUND ONE!

Koki says, HEY, THERE'S ANOTHER ONE...WITH SPOTS!

A purple salamander with yellow spots stands on a log.

[Upbeat music plays]

Chris says, A SPOTTED SALAMANDER! WOW! KOKI IS GOOD AT THIS.

[Martin, Chris, Aviva, and Jimmy laughing]

Martin says, YEAH.

Koki says, IS THAT A BLUE SPOTTED SALAMANDER?

A dark blue salamander with light blue spots rests on a mossy rock in the stream.

Martin says, YES, IT IS. OH, I THOUGHT I'D NEVER BE SO LUCKY TO SEE A BLUE SPOTTED SALAMANDER!

[Martin sniffles]

Aviva says, THAT'S THREE! KOKI WINS THE SALAMANDER STREAMING ADVENTURE!

[Upbeat music plays]

Martin says, WAY TO GO!

Chris cheers, YA-HOOO!

Martin says, YA GOTTA LOVE SALAMANDERS.

Chris says, LIVING FREE AND IN THE WILD!

[Upbeat music plays]

In reality, Martin and Chris sit on rocks by the edge of the stream. Martin keeps his hand on the Hellbender salamander in the container.

Chris says, SO SALAMANDERS ARE A REALLY COOL GROUP OF ANIMALS, WITH OVER 800 SPECIES AROUND THE WORLD.

Video footage shows various salamanders, including a tiny salamander on a person’s fingertip. By the stream, Martin lifts the Hellbender salamander out of the container.

Martin says, THE HELLBENDER BEING ONE OF THE COOLEST SALAMANDERS OF ALL.

Chris says AND THEY'RE RELATED TO ANOTHER GROUP OF ANIMALS, THE FROGS AND THE TOADS.

Video footage shows a toad, frog, and salamander.

[Electronic zapping]

Martin says, YEAH, SALAMANDERS, FROGS AND TOADS, THEY'RE ALL AMPHIBIANS. BUT WHAT MAKES AN AMPHIBIAN, AN AMPHIBIAN?

A small brown salamander walks on top of a log. On the bottom of a stream, a Hellbender salamander walks over pebbles.

Martin narrates, AMPHIBIANS ARE A GROUP OF CREATURES THAT LIVE ON LAND AND IN THE WATER. THEY'RE COLD BLOODED AND THEY NEED WATER AND A MOIST ENVIRONMENT TO SURVIVE. AND THEY CAN BREATHE THROUGH LUNGS, GILLS OR EVEN THEIR SKIN.

Chris says, AND HAVE A LOOK AT THE SIDES OF THIS HELLBENDER'S BODY. THERE ARE FOLDS OF SKIN THERE AND THOSE HELP THE SALAMANDER BREATHE. THE MORE FOLDS, THE MORE OXYGEN THE CAN TAKE IN.

Martin says, SINCE THEY BREATHE THROUGH THEIR SKIN, IT'S SO IMPORTANT THAT THEIR WATERY HABITAT REMAINS CLEAN.

By the stream, Martin and Chris stand beside a bearded man wearing a green ball cap. He wears a black shirt.

Martin says, HEY, WE'RE HERE AT AN AWESOME HELLBENDER STREAM, WITH HELLBENDER EXPERT, DR. BILL HOPKINS, WHO HAS BEEN STUDYING THESE INCREDIBLE SALAMANDERS FOR WHAT, THE PAST 17 YEARS?

Bill says, YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT.

Video footage shows Bill measuring a salamander. Beside him, a woman with long red hair makes notes.

Martin says, WOW! SO WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED IN THAT TIME? LIKE WHAT NEW THINGS ARE YOU FIGURING OUT ABOUT HELLBENDERS?

By the stream, Bill says, I THINK ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS WE'VE LEARNED IS THAT HELLBENDER DADS TAKE CARE OF THEIR BABIES, AND THEY TAKE CARE OF THEM FOR MONTHS.

SO WE KNOW NOW THAT DADS HANG OUT WITH THEIR BABIES FOR LIKE EIGHT MONTHS. THEY PROTECT THEM FROM BIG PREDATORS, AND THEY MAKE SURE THEY'RE GETTING ALL THE THINGS, LIKE OXYGEN, THEY NEED FROM THE WATER.

Chris says, AND THE WATER. YOU MENTIONED THE WATER. THEIR HABITAT. THESE COLD STREAMS. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT THEIR HABITAT?

Bill says, SO HELLBENDERS ARE IN A LOT OF TROUBLE. SO THAT'S ONE OF THE BIG DISCOVERIES, IS THAT THEIR POPULATIONS ARE CRASHING, AND THEY NEED REALLY CLEAN WATER, LIKE THE WATER YOU SEE HERE, TO SURVIVE. AND EVEN THOUGH THEY LIVE UNDERWATER, THEY NEED TREES. THE TREES ARE REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT FOR KEEPING THE WATER CLEAN.

Martin says, WOW! SO ANOTHER REASON IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO HAVE HEALTHY FORESTS, TO PROTECT HELLBENDERS.

Bill says, ABSOLUTELY.

Chris and Martin stand beside the stream. Martin holds the container with the Hellbender salamander.

The Kratt brothers say, WE LOVE HELLBENDERS.

Martin says, AND ALL KINDS OF SALAMANDERS.

Chris takes the Hellbender salamander out of the container.

Chris says, AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GO LIVING, BACK FREE AND IN THE WILD!

Chris releases the Hellbender salamander into the water.

[Upbeat music plays]

Martin says, KEEP ON SALAMANDER STREAMING!

Chris says, WE'LL SEE YOU ON THE CREATURE TRAIL!

[Energetic theme music plays]
