Martin narrates, ON THE CONTINENT OF AFRICA, IN THE EQUATORIA FORESTS AND SAVANNAS, LIVES ONE OF PLANET EARTH'S INCREDIBLE GREAT APES.
Chris and Martin Kratt walk on a narrow dirt path away from a forest. Chris wears a green shirt and grey pants. His grey hair is short. Martin has short blond hair and wears a navy blue shirt.
[Footsteps crunching]
Martin shouts, AND WE'RE HERE IN NORTH AMERICA!
Chris says, IT'S US, THE KRATT BROTHERS. I'M CHRIS.
Martin says, I'M MARTIN. WE'VE HAD SO MANY AMAZING ADVENTURES WITH OUR FELLOW GREAT APES, THE CHIMPANZEES.
Video footage shows Martin and Chris carrying chimpanzees in a forest. Video footage shows a chimpanzee swinging on a branch.
[Rustling]
Chris says, AND EVER SINCE OUR VERY FIRST EXPERIENCES WITH THEM, A FEW THINGS REALLY STAND OUT ABOUT THESE CREATURES.
Martin says, FIRST OF ALL, CHIMPANZEES CAN REALLY MOVE THROUGH THE FOREST. REMEMBER OUR ADVENTURE IN UGANDA?
Video footage shows Martin and Chris chasing a chimpanzee in a forest.
Chris says, OH YEAH! WILD CHIMPS IN ACTION.
Chris says, THEY'RE GOING. I THINK WE MISSED THAT GATHERING. IT'S REALLY TOUGH WHEN THEY GO THROUGH THIS DENSE STUFF.
Martin says, GOING UP NOW.
[Chimpanzee hooting, leaves rustling]
Chris says, breathing heavily, HE'S FAST! ARM OVER ARM. THERE'S NO WAY...YOU CAN KEEP UP WITH THESE CHIMPS!
The chimpanzee jumps from tree to tree.
Martin says, WHOA! WHOA!...WHOA! HERE COMES ANOTHER ONE.
[Hooting, branches rustling, laughing]
Martin says, THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING IN THE TREES. FOR THAT WEIGHT AND THAT SIZE. THE WAY THAT THEY USE THE STURDY BRANCHES TO RUN ON. THE LIGHT BRANCHES TO BEND. EVEN BENDING THESE TREES AL THE WAY TO THE GROUND AND THEN THEY'RE MOBILE TERRESTRIALLY.
In the present, Chris says, IN ALL OUR TIME WITH CHIMPS, ANOTHER THING THAT'S CLEAR, IS THAT CHIMPS LIVE IN COMPLEX SOCIETIES WHERE COMMUNICATION IS KEY.
In the video footage, a large chimpanzee walks past the Kratt brothers.
[Chimpanzees hooting]
Chris says, LISTEN TO THAT. THAT'S THE CLASSIC CHIMPANZEE PAN HOOT. IT'S A CONTACT CALL, TELLING ALL THE OTHER CHIMPS, 'I'M HERE. WHERE ARE YOU?' IT'S CHIMP LANGUAGE.
In the present, Chris says, IMAGINE IF WE COULD MOVE AND CLIMB LIKE A CHIMPANZEE.
Martin says, AND COMMUNICATE LIKE THEY DO. IMAGINE IF WE HAD CHIMPANZEE POWERS.
Martin and Chris say, WHAT IF?
They jump and change into cartoon versions of themselves. Martin wears a blue jacket over a white shirt, and Chris wears a green jacket over a white shirt. Both wear beige shorts and purple hiking boots.
[Energetic theme music plays]
A person sings, ON ADVENTURE WITH THE COOLEST CREATURES, FROM THE OCEANS TO THE TREES.
Chris swings on a vine. He lands on a large orange flower. Martin rides on a bee.
[Whoosh]
The person sings, THE BROTHERS KRATT ARE GOING PLACES, YOU NEVER GET TO SEE. HANGING WITH THEIR CREATURE FRIENDS, GET READY IT'S THE HOUR.
[Beeping]
The person sings, WE'RE GONNA SAVE SOME ANIMALS TODAY WITH CREATURE POWER!

Chris and Martin use discs to activate creature powers.
[Electronic whooshing]

CHEETAH SPEED AND LIZARD GLIDE, FALCON FLIGHT AND LION PRIDE.
[Whoosh]
The person sings, GONNA GO WILD WITH WILD KRATTS, GONNA GO WILD WILD WILD KRATTS, WILD KRATTS!
An alligator snaps at Martin. Martin runs into a male lion. Chris flies into a tree.
[Snapping, whoosh]
The person sings, GONNA GO WILD WITH WILD KRATTS, GONNA GO WILD WILD WILD KRATTS. GO WILD WILD WILD KRATTS!

In a forest, a green bird with a red face and throat perches on a tree branch. The bird takes off and Chris lands on the branch. He jumps to another branch.
[Upbeat music plays, leaves rustling, grunting]

Chris drops down to a lower branch and spins around it.
[Whooshing]
Chris cheers, WOO HOO! HO HO!
Chris jumps from branch to branch on a huge tree. He grabs a vine and swings to the Tortuga.
Chris says, HA HA!
Chris lands on top of the Tortuga and jumps inside. He lands on a tree above where Martin sleeps in a hammock. Avivia, Koki, and Jimmy sleep in hammocks on the other side of the room.
[Energetic music plays, vine rustling, Chris grunting, whooshing]
Chris says, UP AND AT 'EM, BRO. TODAY'S THE BIG DAY! WAKE UP EVERYBODY! IT'S THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
[Whooshing]
Koki says, CHRIS, IT'S 5 A.M.! THE MOMENT I'M WAITING FOR IS NOON!
Chris says, C'MON! I'M JUST GETTING WARMED UP FOR LATER. WANNA JOIN ME?
Jimmy says, UM, NO THANKS. I'M GOOD!
[Aviva yawning]
Aviva says, I KNOW THIS IS THE CLIMBING ADVENTURE YOU ALWAYS DREAMED OF, BUT I WAS DREAMING TOO.
Chris says, CHIMPANZEES! IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE. THEY'RE NOT CALLED ONE OF THE "GREAT APES" FOR NOTHING.
[Martin yawning]
Martin says, ALRIGHT DUDE, THIS GREAT APE IS READY TO MEET THOSE GREAT APES.
Martin picks up a red bowl and offers Chris a bunch of green grapes.
Martin asks, GRAPES?
Chris says, NO THANKS.
AND OF ALL THE GREAT APES - GORILLAS...
Martin says, ORANGUTANS...
Chris says, BONOBOS...
Martin says, HUMANS...
Video footage shows gorillas, orangutans, and bonobos. A photograph shows a circle of children with their arms around each other’s shoulders. Video footage shows chimpanzees.
Chris says, AND CHIMPS... CHIMPS ARE ONE OF THE MOST VERSATILE CLIMBERS! AND I'M GONNA LEARN...
Chris climbs a post and jumps off the top.
[Whooshing]
Chris says, HOW TO BE A BETTER CLIMBER FROM ONE OF THE BEST TREE CLIMBERS IN THE CREATURE WORLD!
[Laughing]
He says, LET'S GO!
Chris steps on a grape and slips.
[Squelching]
Chris shouts, WHOA!
Chris slides into a pole and falls on his bottom. He holds his right ankle.
[Gentle music plays]
Chris shouts, UGH! OH! OW!
Koki says, CHRIS! ARE YOU OK?
Chris says, YEAH, I'M OK, BUT... OUCH...OH MY ANKLE!
Jimmy says, YOU SPRAINED IT PRETTY BAD.
Chris says, NO, NO I'M FINE. SEE?
Chris steps forward on his right foot and then sits on the floor. He holds his ankle.
Chris says, OW, OWW, OWWWWW!
Koki says, THAT COULD TAKE WEEKS TO HEAL.
Martin says, YEAH, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO SIT THIS OUT.
Chris says, BUT...NO CLIMBING? THE CHIMPS...
Later, Chris sits on a chair with his right ankle bandaged.
Chris says, GROUNDED.
Aviva says, YOU KNOW, THERE'LL BE OTHER CLIMBING ADVENTURES CHRIS.
Martin says, THINK OF ALL THE OTHER CLIMBING CREATURES THAT WE STILL HAVE TO MEET.
Aviva says, YOU'LL BE READY TO GO FOR THOSE!
Chris glumly says, YEAH...I GUESS.
Aviva says, WHEN YOU'RE BETTER, I'LL MAKE YOU ANY CLIMBING CREATURE POWER YOU WANT, I PROMISE.
Chris says, THANKS.
A troop of chimpanzees walk past the Tortuga. Some swing on branches in the nearby forest.
[Hooting, Martin gasping]
Martin says, CHIMPANZEES!
Aviva says, WOW!
Jimmy says, AMAZING!
[Gentle music plays, hooting, whooshing]
Koki says, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
Aviva says, A WHOLE TROOP. WITH BABIES!
A baby jumps to a tree branch and swings.
Koki says, WOW, SO CUTE!
Martin says, BUT THEY'RE ON THE MOVE. PASSING THROUGH HERE.
Chris says, YOU'D BETTER GO.
Aviva says, ARE YOU SURE?
Chris says, YEAH, YEAH...GO. GO, EVERYBODY! YOU CAN'T MISS THIS. THEY'RE TOO COOL. GO! HURRY!
Martin says, WE'LL BE BACK, CHRIS.
Jimmy says, HAVE THE KEY LIME PIE IN MY FRIDGE!
Chris says, YEAH, THE CREATURE ADVENTURE MUST GO ON.
Aviva and Koki run on a fallen tree. Chris and Jimmy climb up a crooked tree.
[Chimpanzees hooting, Martin and Jimmy grunting]
Jimmy slides back down the trunk.
Jimmy says, WHOAAA!
[Martin grunting]
Martin says, CHECK IT OUT, JIMMY. CHIMPS LIVE IN COMPLEX GROUPS CALLED COMMUNITIES. WITH ANYWHERE FROM 30 TO OVER 150 INDIVIDUALS!
[Hooting]
Jimmy asks, WHAT ARE THOSE SOUNDS? ARE THEY COMMUNICATING?
Martin says, THEY'RE SOCIAL. THEY HAVE ALL DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER AND THEY COMMUNICATE A LOT.
Jimmy says, WHOA!
Koki and Aviva climb a tree.
Aviva asks, YOU OKAY, KOKI?
Koki says, I'M COMIN'. BUT I WISH I COULD CLIMB LIKE CHRIS.
Martin jumps onto a branch beside Koki. Jimmy lands beside him on the branch.
[Whooshing, slide whistle]
Jimmy says, WHOA!
Aviva watches a baby chimpanzee jump onto an adult’s back.
Aviva says, YOU LOOK LIKE A GOOD MOM.
Martin says, YEAH, A CHIMP TAKES CARE OF HER BABY, FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS.
The baby chimpanzee jumps on a second adult’s back.
[Hooting]
Aviva says, AND YOU'RE A RASCALLY LITTLE GIRL!
[Chimpanzees hooting]
Aviva says, AND PRETTY VOCAL TOO.
Martin says, GAB, GAB, GAB, GAB. I'LL NAME YOU GABBY!
Chris appears on a screen projected from Martin’s creature suit.
[Zapping, Chris chuckling]
On the screen, Chris says, GABBY. GREAT NAME, BRO! BABY CHIMPS LOVE TO EXPLORE THEIR ENVIRONMENT, BUT THEY NEVER GET TOO FAR AWAY FROM MOM.
Zach says, AHHH, YES. THAT'S WHAT I'M AFTER.
A cutout of a chimpanzee lowers to the ground and falls. Zach, crouched behind it, stands up. He stands with his hands on his hips and faces three Zachbots.
[Whirring]
Zach says, OK, WE FOUND THE PERFECT CREATURE FOR MY PLAN.
Zach kicks the cutout into the bushes.
[Thunking, branches rustling]
Zach says, NOW GET YOUR LASER NETS READY AND SPLIT UP!
Two Zachbots pull the other Zachbot in half.
[Whirring, clanking, zapping]
Zach says, NO! NOT LITERALLY! I MEAN YOU GO THAT WAY, AND YOU GO THAT WAY!
The two Zachbots let go of the halves, and the third Zachbot snaps back together.
[Zapping, clanging]
Zach says, SEE? THAT'S WHY I NEED A NEW ASSISTANT. AND I HEARD THESE CHIMPANDAS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SO SMART! SO I NEED ONE AS MY LAB ASSISTANT. THAT'S RIGHT. YOU ARE BEING REPLACED! THEY HAVE OPPOSABLE THUMBS AND USE TOOLS, SUPPOSEDLY. NOW GO CATCH ME ONE!
Two Zachbots move away from Zach. The third Zachbot splits in half.
[Zapping, clanking, ominous music plays, Zach grumbling]
Aviva asks, WHAT DO THEY EAT?
Martin says, THEY'RE OMNIVORES. EATING ANYTHING FROM INSECTS TO FRUIT, TO LEAVES AND EVEN MEAT.
Aviva repeats, MEAT?!
Martin projects video footage of a monkey jumping off a tree as a chimpanzee climbs it.
[Beeping, leaves rustling, crunching]
Martin says, YEAH! CHIMPANZEES ACTUALLY HUNT MONKEYS.
Aviva says, WOW, REALLY? I LIKE WHEN THEY EAT FRUIT BETTER.
[Chimpanzees shrieking, hooting]
Martin says, THE "WRAA" CALL! THAT MEANS DANGER! C'MON!
[Chimpanzees shrieking]
Martin, Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy follow the fleeing chimpanzees.
[Chimpanzees shrieking, hooting]
The two Zachbots shoot a laser net around Gabby’s mom. Gabby watches from a nearby tree branch. The zachbots fly past Martin, Koki, Aviva, and Jimmy.
[Zapping, Zachbots whirring, Gabby chirping fearfully, ominous music plays]
Martin says, ZACHBOTS! THEY'VE GOT GABBY'S MOM! I'LL FIND OUT WHERE THEY'RE TAKING HER.
Martin leaps onto a tree and climbs.
[Whooshing]
Aviva says, LET'S TRACK THE TROOP! IF WE LOSE THEM, WE MIGHT NEVER FIND THEM AGAIN!
Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy follow a chimpanzee. Gabby sits alone on a tree branch. She jumps from branch to branch and lands on top of the Tortuga. She looks down at Chris.
[Distressed chirping, rustling, Chris typing, distressed chirping]
Chris says, HEY, GABBY. HOW'D YOU GET IN HERE?
Gabby climbs down to Chris and sits on his lap. He picks her up.
Chris says, AWW, DON'T WORRY. I'LL WATCH OUT FOR YOU, UNTIL WE GET YOU BACK TO YOUR MOM AND THE REST OF THE TROOP.
[Distressed chirping]
Chris steers his hovering chair out of the Tortuga. Gabby leaps from branch to branch beside him.
[Whirring, branches rustling]
Chris says, OH, YOU'RE A GOOD LITTLE CLIMBER, GABBY! I WISH I COULD CLIMB WITH YOU. BUT UNFORTUNATELY, I CAN'T RIGHT NOW.
Gabby jumps down and sits on a dirt mound. She leaps up onto the hovering chair.
[Distressed cries]
Chris says, WHAT'S WRONG?! THAT'S A DISTRESS FACE. YOU'RE IN PAIN!
Gabby turns and shows Chris red ants crawling on her back.
[Distressed cries]
Chris says, ANTS! YOU SAT ON AN ANTHILL! I'LL GET THEM OFF. YOU'RE ALL RIGHT. I'M GROOMING YOU. YOU CAN TRUST ME. FOR CHIMPS, GROOMING IS A WAY OF SHOWING FRIENDSHIP.
Gabby climbs up to the back of the chair and looks at Chris’s hair.
Chris says, YOU KNOW, YOU'RE A LOT LIKE A HUMAN TODDLER. NOT THAT SURPRISING REALLY, BECAUSE HUMANS AND CHIMPS HAVE ABOUT 98 PERCENT OF THE SAME D.N.A. WE'RE A LOT ALIKE. EVEN HOW WE COMMUNICATE. WE HUG...STOMP...AND LAUGH!
Chris watches video footage of chimpanzees. Chimpanzees hug, stomp, and laugh.
[Chimpanzee laughing]
Chris says, BUT YOU CHIMPS HAVE A WHOLE LANGUAGE OF CALLS AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS TOO. YOUR HAPPY FACE! I CAN MAKE THAT TOO.
Gabby and Chris smile at each other.
[Happy cry]
Chris says, WE'RE COMMUNICATING! CHIMP STYLE. AMAZING! YOU KNOW, YOU'RE MAKING ME FEEL A LOT BETTER ABOUT MISSING THE CLIMBING.
Beneath the full moon and a sky full of stars, Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy crouch on tree branches. Aviva and Koki crouch side by side and watch a chimpanzee build a nest.
[Leaves rustling, gentle music plays]
Aviva says, I NEVER KNEW CHIMPS BUILT NESTS FOR THE NIGHT.
Koki says, THEY SURE DO. THEY BUILD A NEW ONE EACH NIGHT WHEREVER THEY ARE, BECAUSE THEY'RE USUALLY ON THE MOVE. AND IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE DOING A PRETTY GOOD JOB TOO. HEY, JIMMY, YOU OKAY OVER THERE?
[Jimmy grunting]
Jimmy pulls a branch down and flings him up in the air. He falls and dangles from the branch by his shorts.
[Slapping, slide whistle, boing]
Jimmy says, OWW! WHOA! OOF!...OH.
Jimmy gives a thumbs up.
[Aviva and Koki laughing]
Aviva says, AT LEAST THE TROOP WILL STAY PUT FOR THE NIGHT SO WE DON'T LOSE THEM. WE STILL HAVE TO REUNITE GABBY'S MOM WITH THEM, IF WE CAN RESCUE HER FROM ZACH.
Koki says, I'M GOING TO TURN IN.
Koki lies down in the nest.
[Leaves rustling]
Aviva says, OKAY, I'M STAYING UP TO DO A LITTLE CHIMP POWER SUIT PROGRAMMING. I HAVE A FEELING WE MIGHT NEED SOME CHIMP POWER BEFORE THIS ADVENTURE IS OVER. RIGHT, KOKI?
[Typing, Koki snoring]
In the forest, Chris breaks small sticks off a branch. Gabby rides on the back of his hovering chair.
[Snapping, gentle music plays]
Chris says, C'MON. I WANT TO TEACH YOU A SPECIAL CHIMP SKILL. TOOL USE. FEW ANIMALS CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE OBJECTS AS TOOLS. BUT CHIMPS ARE SO INTELLIGENT, THAT YOU DO IT IN THE WILD!
Gabby jumps off the chair and stands beside the anthill.
Chris says, NOW YOU CAN GET REVENGE ON THOSE ANTS, GABBY. NOT SURE IF YOUR MOM TAUGHT YOU THIS YET, BUT CHIMPS ACTUALLY USE A TOOL TO EAT ANTS. THE STICK! THIS IS YOUR TOOL TO GET THE ANTS, WITHOUT GETTING BITTEN.
HERE'S WHAT YOU DO: YOU PUT THE STICK INTO THE ANTHILL, THE ANTS ATTACK AND BITE THE STICK, THINKING IT'S AN INTRUDER. AFTER A LITTLE BIT, YOU TAKE THE STICK OUT.
Chris puts the stick into the anthill, and ants crawl up. He takes it out and gives it to Gabby.
Chris says, VOILA! AN ANT POPSICLE!
Gabby eats the ants.
[Chris laughing, Gabby slurping]
Chris says, THAT'S RIGHT. YOU KNEW WHAT TO DO NEXT. TASTY, RIGHT?
Gabby puts the stick in the anthill and eats the ants.
[Gabby slurping]
Chris says, YOU GOT TO SWALLOW THE ANTS FAST THOUGH, SO THEY DON'T BITE YOUR THROAT ON THE WAY DOWN. NOW THAT'S A CHIMP HAPPY FACE.
[Rustling, Chris chuckling]
Chris says, HEY, DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SIGN LANGUAGE? IT'S A WAY OF COMMUNICATING BY MAKING SIGNS WITH YOUR HANDS. A WAY TO COMMUNICATE WHEN SOMEONE IS DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING. HANG ON!
Chris pushes a button, and a monitor lifts in front of the chair. A child with long black hair waves.
[Whirring]
Leah says, HELLO!
Chris says, SEE? MY FRIEND, LEAH, JUST SAID HELLO, USING SIGN LANGUAGE. HELLO!
Leah says, THAT CHIMP IS CUTE.
Leah signs as she speaks.
Chris says, SHE JUST SIGNED, YOU'RE REALLY CUTE. HOW DO YOU SIGN...THIS?
Chris holds up the stick. Leah puts her thumb against her pointer finger on both hands and holder the circles together. She moves them apart.
Leah says, STICK.
Chris says, AH...OK. THIS IS...STICK! STICK. YOU TRY.
Gabby signs stick.
Chris says, YES! THAT'S IT. YOU GOT IT. STICK!
[Chris chuckling, upbeat music plays]
Chris says, THANKS LEAH! BYE!
Leah says, BYE!
Chris turns off the monitor, and it folds into the chair.
[Whirring, static]
Chris says, THIS IS GREAT! YOU KNOW OUR SIGN LANGUAGE FOR STICK, AND I KNOW YOUR FACIAL LANGUAGE FOR HAPPY. WE'RE COMMUNICATING!
Gabby smiles and ruffles Chris’s hair.
[Chris laughing]
Chris says, YEAH, I'M HAPPY TOO.
In the tree, a chimpanzee wakes up beneath the pale blue sky.
[Aviva and Koki yawning]
Martin drops onto a branch between Aviva and Kokie’s nest and Jimmy’s.
[Upbeat music plays, leaves rustling]
Koki says, MARTIN? YOU'RE BACK!
Martin says, I'VE BEEN TRACKING ZACH ALL NIGHT. I FOUND HIS CAMP, BUT WE NEED A STRATEGY TO PULL OFF THIS RESCUE.
Aviva says, RESCUE? DID SOMEONE SAY RESCUE?
An animal power disc pops out of Aviva’s computer. She catches it and throws it to Martin.
[Typing, whirring, beeping, whooshing]
Martin says, NO WAY! A CHIMP DISC?!
Koki says, AMAZING! CHIMPANZEE POWER!
[Upbeat music plays]
Martin says, THIS COULD BE THE ANSWER. INSERT CHIMPANZEE POWER DISC.
[Whirring]
Martin says, TOUCH CHIMPANZEE.
Martin gently touches a chimpanzee and then leaps down to a branch.
[Slide whistle]
Martin says, AND ACTIVATE CHIMPANZEE POWER!
Martin’s suit changes and he becomes more muscular. His feet look like hands, and he curls his toes.
[Whirring, zapping, upbeat music plays]
Martin says, CHIMPANZEE POWER!
Martin leaps from branch to branch.
[Whooshing]
Martin says, WOW! I FEEL SO STRONG AND ATHLETIC.
(CLIMBING GRUNTS)
Martin says, I CAN CLIMB SO WELL NOW! I FEEL KINDA LIKE...CHRIS! NOW I KNOW WHY CHRIS - WOOHOO- LIKES CLIMBING SO MUCH!
Aviva says, OKAY MARTIN, ENOUGH CLIMBING. YOU GOT TO USE THOSE POWERS TO RESCUE THAT MOTHER CHIMP.
Koki says, WE'LL STAY WITH THE TROOP UNTIL YOU GET HER BACK.

Zach stands in front of a pavilion. Beneath the canopy top, Gabby’s mom sits behind a table. Three Zachbots stand behind Zach.
Zach says, YES, VERY GOOD!
Gabby’s mom wears a metal helmet. Zach pushes a button, and a light on top of the helmet turns red. Tools hang from the canopy above her. A Zachbot’s head is on the table.
[Beeping]
Zach says, WITH MY MIND CONTROL HELMET ATTACHED, SHE DOES WHATEVER I WANT.
Gabby’s mom grabs a tool and works on the Zachbot head.
[Buzzing]
Zach says, AND SEE, THE CHIMP DOESN'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES. HER INTELLIGENCE IS SUPERIOR. TO YOU, NOT ME. I'M STILL THE SMARTEST!
Martin hangs in a tree above Zach. He jumps down onto the canopy.
[Whooshing, gentle music plays]
Martin says, OKAY, A CHIMP IS ONE AND A HALF TIMES STRONGER THAN AN ADULT HUMAN. SO I'LL USE MY CHIMP STRENGTH IN THIS RESCUE.
Martin runs to the edge of the canopy and glares down at Zach.
Martin says, OKAY, ZACH. THAT CHIMP IS NOT GOING TO BE YOUR ASSISTANT ANYMORE!
Zach says, NICE OUTFIT, BUT IT'S NO MATCH FOR MY ZACHBOTS. GET HIM!
[Dramatic music plays, whirring]
Martin leaps for a vine. The three Zachbots fly up and chase him. Martin smiles and elbow bombs the first Zachbot. It falls apart.
[Smashing]
Martin kicks the second Zachbot, and it falls off the canopy.
[Crashing]
Martin grabs the third Zachbots hands and they push against each other.
[Creaking, whooshing]
Martin says, YOU'RE FORGETTING ABOUT CHIMP STRENGTH, ZACH. CHIMPS HAVE MORE FAST-TWITCH MUSCLES THAN A HUMAN, AND THAT MUSCLE IS THE KIND BEST FOR STRENGTH.
Martin hits the Zachbot. Martin picks up the Zachbot and leaps high into the air.
[Smashing, grunting, slide whistles]
Martin says, HUMANS HAVE MORE SLOW-TWITCH MUSCLES, WHICH ARE BEST FOR ENDURANCE.
Martin and the Zachbot fall to the ground in front of Zach.
[Slide whistle, crashing]
Zach shouts, WHOA! AHH!!!
Zach falls backwards.
Martin says, THAT'S CHIMP STRENGTH FOR YA!
Martin flexes his bicep.
Zach shouts, ARGH! HMM...
Zach sits up and takes out a device. He pushes a button. Gabby’s mom stops working and charges at Martin.
[Whirring, beeping, Martin ooking]
Gabby’s mom pushes the button on Martin’s suit.
[Beeping, whirring]
Martin says, HM?! UH-OH!
Zach says, GET HIM!
A Zachbot wraps its arm around Martin, pinning his arms to his sides.
[Whirring, dramatic music plays]
Martin says, OH! UH! AAAH!
(STRUGGLE)
Zach says, OH WHERE ARE THOSE FAST-TWITCH MUSCLES NOW?
Martin says, ZACH, LET ME GO. AND THE CHIMPANZEE TOO. SHE'S A MOM! SHE NEEDS TO GET BACK TO HER BABY NOW. CHRIS CAN'T LOOK AFTER LITTLE GABBY FOREVER.
Zach says, A BABY CHIMP... INTERESTING! WELL, I COULD USE A LITTLE MORE ASSISTANCE AROUND HERE.
Martin says, ZACH, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT...
Zach says, TOO LATE. I ALREADY DID! ZACHBOTS! LET'S GOT GET THAT CHIMP!
[Evil cackling]
In the Tortuga, Chris chases Gabby.
[Chris chuckling, Gabby hooting, chair whirring, upbeat music plays]
Chris says, YOU DON'T THINK I CAN'T CATCH YOU? OH, YOU RASCAL! HERE I COME!
Gabby takes the chair remote.
[Hooting]
Chris says, HEY! HEY NO FAIR! THAT'S MY REMOTE. OK, SO SCIENTISTS HAVE SHOWN THAT CHIMPS HAVE SOME CAPACITY TO LEARN HUMAN SIGN LANGUAGE, BUT I KNOW SOME CHIMP-STYLE GESTURES THAT YOU USE. COME HERE. C'MON, I KNOW YOU UNDERSTAND. IT'S HOW CHIMPS SAY 'COME HERE' WITH THEIR HAND OUT LIKE THIS.
Gabby gives Chris the remote.
Chris says, THANK YOU. WELL, THERE'S THAT HAPPY FACE AGAIN.
Gabby smiles at Chris.
Chris says, OH, I'LL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO LAUGH ABOUT!
Chris tickles Gabby.
[Chuckling]
In a tree, a chimpanzee with a white chin eats green fruit.
[Chimpanzee hooting]
Jimmy says, THAT CALL MUST MEAN "LET'S STOP FOR A SNACK". YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME TWICE.
Jimmy stretches out his arm.
Jimmy says, AH! AAAH! I CAN'T QUITE REACH.
[Jimmy grunting]
Koki says, IT'S COOL THAT ONE OF THESE CHIMPS FOUND THIS FRUITING TREE AND CALLED EVERYONE ELSE OVER.
[Sniffing, hooting, leaves rustling]
Aviva says, I KNOW, I NEVER KNEW THAT CHIMPS HAD SO MANY CALLS AND GESTURES FOR COMMUNICATING.
Koki says, THEY HAVE OVER 100 DIFFERENT CALLS, GESTURES, AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS THAT SCIENTISTS KNOW. THEY EVEN HAVE WAYS OF REFERRING TO EACH INDIVIDUAL WITH DIFFERENT SOUNDS.
Aviva says, HEY JIMMY, IF YOU WANT HER TO SHARE, TRY PUTTING OUT YOUR HAND LIKE THIS.
The chimpanzee with the white chin gives Jimmy a green fruit.
Jimmy says, THANKS! THAT'S THE HUMAN WAY OF SAYING, I APPRECIATE YOU.
[Jimmy munching]
Jimmy says, MM HM HM! DEE-LICIOUS!
[Communicator beeping]
Martin whispers, SHHH. DON'T SAY ANYTHING. BUT I'VE BEEN CAPTURED BY ZACH. WE'RE ON OUR WAY TO THE TORTUGA AND...
A Zachbot’s face appears on the screen and the call ends.
[Zapping, beeping, static hissing, ominous music plays]
Aviva says, UH-OH. THIS IS NOT GOOD. LITTLE GABBY IS THERE WITH CHRIS. AND CHRIS IS STILL INJURED.
Koki says, WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO HELP THEM...FAST!
At the Tortuga, Zach, his Zachbots, Gabby’s mom, and Martin stop beside a ramp.
[Whirring, beeping]
Zach says, AND...APE ASSISTANT STOP!
Zach pushes the button on the device, and Gabby’s mom stops.
Zach says, NOW, I'M GOING TO LEAVE MY ASSISTANT HERE OUTSIDE, WHILE I GO IN TO COLLECT THE LITTLE ONE. YOU...FOLLOW ME!
Two Zachbots follow Zach up the ramp.
[Whirring]
Zach says, OH, HELLO! I'M HERE FOR THAT!
The two Zachbots move towards Chris and Gabby. Gabby hugs Chris tightly.
[Whirring, distressed call, tense music plays]
Chris says, NO WAY, ZACH! SHE'S GONNA BE PICKED UP BY HER TROOP, AND HER MOM, NOT YOU.
Zach says, YEAH? WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? HAND HER OVER!
Chris says, NO. GABBY RUN!
Gabby jumps away from a Zachbot.
[Energetic music plays, whirring]
Zach says, GET BACK HERE!
Zach says, OH!
Gabby lands on Zach’s head and takes his device.
[Zach shrieking]
Zach says, HEY, THAT'S MINE!
Gabby holds the device over her head. The Zachbots charge her from different directions and crash into each other.
[Whirring, smashing, hooting]
Zach says, GIVE ME THAT BACK! I SAID, GIVE ME THAT!
Gabby climbs the tree in the Tortuga.
Zach says, DON'T MAKE ME COME UP THERE!
Chris says, WELL, THAT'S NO WAY TO TALK TO A CHIMP. BUT I KNOW CHIMP LANGUAGE. THE CHIMP GESTURE FOR "COME HERE. " COME HERE.
Zach says, I SAID, GIVE ME THAT!
Gabby jumps down and bounces off Zach’s head.
[Hooting]
Zach shouts, AH...OH! UGH!
Gabby lands on Chris’s lap and gives him the device.
[Chris chuckling]
Chris says, THANKS! YOU UNDERSTOOD!
Zach says, NO!
Chris says, SORRY ZACH, WE'RE GREAT APES WHO KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. AND GABBY'S MOM WILL NOT BE YOUR ASSISTANT ANYMORE!
[Button clicking]
Outside, Gabby’s mom shakes her head.
[Beeping, whooshing]
Martin says, YES! YOU'RE FREE!
[Grunting]
Martin says, TOUCH CHIMPANZEE AND REACTIVATE.
Martin touches Gabby’s mom. She runs up the ramp.
Martin develops chimpanzee power and breaks free of the Zachbot.
[Zapping, smashing]
Martin says, WOO!! TO THE GABBY RESCUE! HEY, ZACH...
Martin and Gabby’s mom stand by the door of the Tortuga.
Zach says, HUH? GET THEM!
A Zachbot swings at Martin, and he ducks. He leaps high and then smashes both fists on the head of the Zachbot.
[Whirring, tense music plays, Martin grunting, smashing]
Martin says, THAT'S CHIMPANZEE POWER!
Gabby’s mom jumps onto a Zachbot and hits it. She takes off the helmet.
[Whirring, banging, whirring]
Martin says, STRENGTH!
Gabby’s mom puts the helmet on Zach.
[Thunking, hooting]
Martin says, AGILITY!
Chris says, AND INTELLIGENCE!
Gabby pushes the button on Zach’s device, and the red light on the helmet glows.
[Gabby hooting, beeping]
Zach dances.
[Beeping, disco music plays, amused cries, clicking]
[Chris chuckling]
Chris says, WELL, THAT'S A NEW TWIST ON THE APE ASSISTANT.
[Martin laughing]
Martin says, YOU REALLY KNOW HOW TO MAKE AN EXIT ZACH.
Zach dances out of the Tortuga. Koki and Aviva watch him pass.
Zach says, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR CHIMPS! THEY'RE NOT GOOD ASSISTANTS ANYWAY.
[Zach whining]
[Chris laughing]
Chris asks, CAN YOU MAKE SURE ZACH GETS HOME SAFELY, AVIVA?
Aviva says, I'D BE GLAD TO!
Chris gives Avivia the device and she pushes the button. Zach does the worm.
[Beeping]
Aviva says, THERE. HE'LL DANCE RIGHT BACK TO CAMP.
Gabby and her mom hug.
[Gentle music plays]
Martin says, AWW. GABBY AND HER MOM TOGETHER AGAIN.
[Martin chuckling]
Chris says, AND YOU BROUGHT THE TROOP BACK TOO!
[Hooting]
Martin says, UH, BUT WHERE'S JIMMY?
Koki says, HE MADE SOME FRIENDS.
In the tree, Jimmy gives the chimpanzee with the white chin a fruit.
[Whooshing, rustling]
Jimmy says, HERE, TRY THIS ONE. IT'S REALLY RIPE.
[Munching]
Later, Martin leaps from a tree branch to a vine.
[Martin grunting, rustling]
Martin leaps onto the Tortuga, where Koki, Aviva, Chris, Gabby, and Jimmy wait.
[Upbeat music plays]
Martin says, HA! WELL, THAT'S CREATURE MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! WE CLIMBED WITH ONE OF THE GREATEST CLIMBERS IN THE WORLD, THE GREAT CHIMPANZEES. I'LL NEVER CLIMB THAT WELL AGAIN.
Chris says, I'M GLAD YOU GOT TO DO IT, BRO.
Aviva says, SORRY YOU DIDN'T GET TO CLIMB THIS TIME, CHRIS.
Chris says, IT'S OKAY. GABBY HELPED ME MAKE THE BEST OUT OF A BAD SITUATION. I GOT TO SEE ANOTHER SIDE OF CHIMPS THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE SEE IF I WAS CLIMBING AROUND. AND THAT WAS PRETTY SPECIAL. BYE.
Gabby waves at Chris and runs to the forest.
[Upbeat music plays]
Martin says, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE A LOT ALIKE, CHIMPANZEES HAVE THEIR OWN LANGUAGE AND WAY OF LIFE.
[Leaves rustling, hooting]
Aviva says, AND NOW THE TROOP IS TOGETHER AGAIN, AND BACK WHERE THEY BELONG - IN THEIR FOREST HOME.

Martin says, THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING IN THE TREES. FOR THAT WEIGHT AND THAT SIZE. THE WAY THAT THEY USE THE STURDY BRANCHES TO RUN ON. THE LIGHT BRANCHES TO BEND. EVEN BENDING THESE TREES AL THE WAY TO THE GROUND AND THEN THEY'RE MOBILE TERRESTRIALLY.

Chris says, UP AND AT 'EM, BRO. TODAY'S THE BIG DAY! WAKE UP EVERYBODY! IT'S THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!

Chris says, CHIMPANZEES! IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE. THEY'RE NOT CALLED ONE OF THE "GREAT APES" FOR NOTHING.
[Martin yawning]
Martin says, ALRIGHT DUDE, THIS GREAT APE IS READY TO MEET THOSE GREAT APES.
Martin picks up a red bowl and offers Chris a bunch of green grapes.
Martin asks, GRAPES?
Chris says, NO THANKS.
AND OF ALL THE GREAT APES - GORILLAS...
Martin says, ORANGUTANS...
Chris says, BONOBOS...
Martin says, HUMANS...

Chris steps on a grape and slips.

Chris shouts, WHOA!
Chris slides into a pole and falls on his bottom. He holds his right ankle.
[Gentle music plays]
Chris shouts, UGH! OH! OW!
Koki says, CHRIS! ARE YOU OK?
Chris says, YEAH, I'M OK, BUT... OUCH...OH MY ANKLE!
Jimmy says, YOU SPRAINED IT PRETTY BAD.
Chris says, NO, NO I'M FINE. SEE?
Chris steps forward on his right foot and then sits on the floor. He holds his ankle.
Chris says, OW, OWW, OWWWWW!
Koki says, THAT COULD TAKE WEEKS TO HEAL.
Martin says, YEAH, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO SIT THIS OUT.
Chris says, BUT...NO CLIMBING? THE CHIMPS...
Later, Chris sits on a chair with his right ankle bandaged.
Chris says, GROUNDED.
Aviva says, YOU KNOW, THERE'LL BE OTHER CLIMBING ADVENTURES CHRIS.
Martin says, THINK OF ALL THE OTHER CLIMBING CREATURES THAT WE STILL HAVE TO MEET.
Aviva says, YOU'LL BE READY TO GO FOR THOSE!
Chris glumly says, YEAH...I GUESS.
Aviva says, WHEN YOU'RE BETTER, I'LL MAKE YOU ANY CLIMBING CREATURE POWER YOU WANT, I PROMISE.
Chris says, THANKS.
A troop of chimpanzees walk past the Tortuga. Some swing on branches in the nearby forest.
[Hooting, Martin gasping]
Martin says, CHIMPANZEES!
Aviva says, WOW!
Jimmy says, AMAZING!
[Gentle music plays, hooting, whooshing]
Koki says, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
Aviva says, A WHOLE TROOP. WITH BABIES!
A baby jumps to a tree branch and swings.
Koki says, WOW, SO CUTE!
Martin says, BUT THEY'RE ON THE MOVE. PASSING THROUGH HERE.
Chris says, YOU'D BETTER GO.
Aviva says, ARE YOU SURE?
Chris says, YEAH, YEAH...GO. GO, EVERYBODY! YOU CAN'T MISS THIS. THEY'RE TOO COOL. GO! HURRY!
Martin says, WE'LL BE BACK, CHRIS.
Jimmy says, HAVE THE KEY LIME PIE IN MY FRIDGE!
Chris says, YEAH, THE CREATURE ADVENTURE MUST GO ON.
Aviva and Koki run on a fallen tree. Chris and Jimmy climb up a crooked tree.
[Chimpanzees hooting, Martin and Jimmy grunting]
Jimmy slides back down the trunk.
Jimmy says, WHOAAA!
[Martin grunting]
Martin says, CHECK IT OUT, JIMMY. CHIMPS LIVE IN COMPLEX GROUPS CALLED COMMUNITIES. WITH ANYWHERE FROM 30 TO OVER 150 INDIVIDUALS!
[Hooting]
Jimmy asks, WHAT ARE THOSE SOUNDS? ARE THEY COMMUNICATING?
Martin says, THEY'RE SOCIAL. THEY HAVE ALL DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER AND THEY COMMUNICATE A LOT.
Jimmy says, WHOA!
Koki and Aviva climb a tree.
Aviva asks, YOU OKAY, KOKI?
Koki says, I'M COMIN'. BUT I WISH I COULD CLIMB LIKE CHRIS.
Martin jumps onto a branch beside Koki. Jimmy lands beside him on the branch.
[Whooshing, slide whistle]
Jimmy says, WHOA!
Aviva watches a baby chimpanzee jump onto an adult’s back.
Aviva says, YOU LOOK LIKE A GOOD MOM.
Martin says, YEAH, A CHIMP TAKES CARE OF HER BABY, FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS.
The baby chimpanzee jumps on a second adult’s back.
[Hooting]
Aviva says, AND YOU'RE A RASCALLY LITTLE GIRL!
[Chimpanzees hooting]
Aviva says, AND PRETTY VOCAL TOO.
Martin says, GAB, GAB, GAB, GAB. I'LL NAME YOU GABBY!
Chris appears on a screen projected from Martin’s creature suit.
[Zapping, Chris chuckling]
On the screen, Chris says, GABBY. GREAT NAME, BRO! BABY CHIMPS LOVE TO EXPLORE THEIR ENVIRONMENT, BUT THEY NEVER GET TOO FAR AWAY FROM MOM.
Zach says, AHHH, YES. THAT'S WHAT I'M AFTER.
A cutout of a chimpanzee lowers to the ground and falls. Zach, crouched behind it, stands up. He stands with his hands on his hips and faces three Zachbots.
[Whirring]
Zach says, OK, WE FOUND THE PERFECT CREATURE FOR MY PLAN.
Zach kicks the cutout into the bushes.
[Thunking, branches rustling]
Zach says, NOW GET YOUR LASER NETS READY AND SPLIT UP!
Two Zachbots pull the other Zachbot in half.
[Whirring, clanking, zapping]
Zach says, NO! NOT LITERALLY! I MEAN YOU GO THAT WAY, AND YOU GO THAT WAY!
The two Zachbots let go of the halves, and the third Zachbot snaps back together.
[Zapping, clanging]
Zach says, SEE? THAT'S WHY I NEED A NEW ASSISTANT. AND I HEARD THESE CHIMPANDAS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SO SMART! SO I NEED ONE AS MY LAB ASSISTANT. THAT'S RIGHT. YOU ARE BEING REPLACED! THEY HAVE OPPOSABLE THUMBS AND USE TOOLS, SUPPOSEDLY. NOW GO CATCH ME ONE!
Two Zachbots move away from Zach. The third Zachbot splits in half.
[Zapping, clanking, ominous music plays, Zach grumbling]
Aviva asks, WHAT DO THEY EAT?
Martin says, THEY'RE OMNIVORES. EATING ANYTHING FROM INSECTS TO FRUIT, TO LEAVES AND EVEN MEAT.
Aviva repeats, MEAT?!
Martin projects video footage of a monkey jumping off a tree as a chimpanzee climbs it.
[Beeping, leaves rustling, crunching]
Martin says, YEAH! CHIMPANZEES ACTUALLY HUNT MONKEYS.
Aviva says, WOW, REALLY? I LIKE WHEN THEY EAT FRUIT BETTER.
[Chimpanzees shrieking, hooting]
Martin says, THE "WRAA" CALL! THAT MEANS DANGER! C'MON!
[Chimpanzees shrieking]
Martin, Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy follow the fleeing chimpanzees.
[Chimpanzees shrieking, hooting]
The two Zachbots shoot a laser net around Gabby’s mom. Gabby watches from a nearby tree branch. The zachbots fly past Martin, Koki, Aviva, and Jimmy.
[Zapping, Zachbots whirring, Gabby chirping fearfully, ominous music plays]
Martin says, ZACHBOTS! THEY'VE GOT GABBY'S MOM! I'LL FIND OUT WHERE THEY'RE TAKING HER.
Martin leaps onto a tree and climbs.
[Whooshing]
Aviva says, LET'S TRACK THE TROOP! IF WE LOSE THEM, WE MIGHT NEVER FIND THEM AGAIN!
Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy follow a chimpanzee. Gabby sits alone on a tree branch. She jumps from branch to branch and lands on top of the Tortuga. She looks down at Chris.
[Distressed chirping, rustling, Chris typing, distressed chirping]
Chris says, HEY, GABBY. HOW'D YOU GET IN HERE?
Gabby climbs down to Chris and sits on his lap. He picks her up.
Chris says, AWW, DON'T WORRY. I'LL WATCH OUT FOR YOU, UNTIL WE GET YOU BACK TO YOUR MOM AND THE REST OF THE TROOP.
[Distressed chirping]
Chris steers his hovering chair out of the Tortuga. Gabby leaps from branch to branch beside him.
[Whirring, branches rustling]
Chris says, OH, YOU'RE A GOOD LITTLE CLIMBER, GABBY! I WISH I COULD CLIMB WITH YOU. BUT UNFORTUNATELY, I CAN'T RIGHT NOW.
Gabby jumps down and sits on a dirt mound. She leaps up onto the hovering chair.
[Distressed cries]
Chris says, WHAT'S WRONG?! THAT'S A DISTRESS FACE. YOU'RE IN PAIN!
Gabby turns and shows Chris red ants crawling on her back.
[Distressed cries]
Chris says, ANTS! YOU SAT ON AN ANTHILL! I'LL GET THEM OFF. YOU'RE ALL RIGHT. I'M GROOMING YOU. YOU CAN TRUST ME. FOR CHIMPS, GROOMING IS A WAY OF SHOWING FRIENDSHIP.
Gabby climbs up to the back of the chair and looks at Chris’s hair.
Chris says, YOU KNOW, YOU'RE A LOT LIKE A HUMAN TODDLER. NOT THAT SURPRISING REALLY, BECAUSE HUMANS AND CHIMPS HAVE ABOUT 98 PERCENT OF THE SAME D.N.A. WE'RE A LOT ALIKE. EVEN HOW WE COMMUNICATE. WE HUG...STOMP...AND LAUGH!
Chris watches video footage of chimpanzees. Chimpanzees hug, stomp, and laugh.
[Chimpanzee laughing]
Chris says, BUT YOU CHIMPS HAVE A WHOLE LANGUAGE OF CALLS AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS TOO. YOUR HAPPY FACE! I CAN MAKE THAT TOO.
Gabby and Chris smile at each other.
[Happy cry]
Chris says, WE'RE COMMUNICATING! CHIMP STYLE. AMAZING! YOU KNOW, YOU'RE MAKING ME FEEL A LOT BETTER ABOUT MISSING THE CLIMBING.
Beneath the full moon and a sky full of stars, Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy crouch on tree branches. Aviva and Koki crouch side by side and watch a chimpanzee build a nest.
[Leaves rustling, gentle music plays]
Aviva says, I NEVER KNEW CHIMPS BUILT NESTS FOR THE NIGHT.
Koki says, THEY SURE DO. THEY BUILD A NEW ONE EACH NIGHT WHEREVER THEY ARE, BECAUSE THEY'RE USUALLY ON THE MOVE. AND IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE DOING A PRETTY GOOD JOB TOO. HEY, JIMMY, YOU OKAY OVER THERE?
[Jimmy grunting]
Jimmy pulls a branch down and flings him up in the air. He falls and dangles from the branch by his shorts.
[Slapping, slide whistle, boing]
Jimmy says, OWW! WHOA! OOF!...OH.
Jimmy gives a thumbs up.
[Aviva and Koki laughing]
Aviva says, AT LEAST THE TROOP WILL STAY PUT FOR THE NIGHT SO WE DON'T LOSE THEM. WE STILL HAVE TO REUNITE GABBY'S MOM WITH THEM, IF WE CAN RESCUE HER FROM ZACH.
Koki says, I'M GOING TO TURN IN.
Koki lies down in the nest.
[Leaves rustling]
Aviva says, OKAY, I'M STAYING UP TO DO A LITTLE CHIMP POWER SUIT PROGRAMMING. I HAVE A FEELING WE MIGHT NEED SOME CHIMP POWER BEFORE THIS ADVENTURE IS OVER. RIGHT, KOKI?
[Typing, Koki snoring]
In the forest, Chris breaks small sticks off a branch. Gabby rides on the back of his hovering chair.
[Snapping, gentle music plays]
Chris says, C'MON. I WANT TO TEACH YOU A SPECIAL CHIMP SKILL. TOOL USE. FEW ANIMALS CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE OBJECTS AS TOOLS. BUT CHIMPS ARE SO INTELLIGENT, THAT YOU DO IT IN THE WILD!
Gabby jumps off the chair and stands beside the anthill.
Chris says, NOW YOU CAN GET REVENGE ON THOSE ANTS, GABBY. NOT SURE IF YOUR MOM TAUGHT YOU THIS YET, BUT CHIMPS ACTUALLY USE A TOOL TO EAT ANTS. THE STICK! THIS IS YOUR TOOL TO GET THE ANTS, WITHOUT GETTING BITTEN.
HERE'S WHAT YOU DO: YOU PUT THE STICK INTO THE ANTHILL, THE ANTS ATTACK AND BITE THE STICK, THINKING IT'S AN INTRUDER. AFTER A LITTLE BIT, YOU TAKE THE STICK OUT.
Chris puts the stick into the anthill, and ants crawl up. He takes it out and gives it to Gabby.
Chris says, VOILA! AN ANT POPSICLE!
Gabby eats the ants.
[Chris laughing, Gabby slurping]
Chris says, THAT'S RIGHT. YOU KNEW WHAT TO DO NEXT. TASTY, RIGHT?
Gabby puts the stick in the anthill and eats the ants.
[Gabby slurping]
Chris says, YOU GOT TO SWALLOW THE ANTS FAST THOUGH, SO THEY DON'T BITE YOUR THROAT ON THE WAY DOWN. NOW THAT'S A CHIMP HAPPY FACE.
[Rustling, Chris chuckling]
Chris says, HEY, DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SIGN LANGUAGE? IT'S A WAY OF COMMUNICATING BY MAKING SIGNS WITH YOUR HANDS. A WAY TO COMMUNICATE WHEN SOMEONE IS DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING. HANG ON!
Chris pushes a button, and a monitor lifts in front of the chair. A child with long black hair waves.
[Whirring]
Leah says, HELLO!
Chris says, SEE? MY FRIEND, LEAH, JUST SAID HELLO, USING SIGN LANGUAGE. HELLO!
Leah says, THAT CHIMP IS CUTE.
Leah signs as she speaks.
Chris says, SHE JUST SIGNED, YOU'RE REALLY CUTE. HOW DO YOU SIGN...THIS?
Chris holds up the stick. Leah puts her thumb against her pointer finger on both hands and holder the circles together. She moves them apart.
Leah says, STICK.
Chris says, AH...OK. THIS IS...STICK! STICK. YOU TRY.
Gabby signs stick.
Chris says, YES! THAT'S IT. YOU GOT IT. STICK!
[Chris chuckling, upbeat music plays]
Chris says, THANKS LEAH! BYE!
Leah says, BYE!
Chris turns off the monitor, and it folds into the chair.
[Whirring, static]
Chris says, THIS IS GREAT! YOU KNOW OUR SIGN LANGUAGE FOR STICK, AND I KNOW YOUR FACIAL LANGUAGE FOR HAPPY. WE'RE COMMUNICATING!
Gabby smiles and ruffles Chris’s hair.
[Chris laughing]
Chris says, YEAH, I'M HAPPY TOO.
In the tree, a chimpanzee wakes up beneath the pale blue sky.
[Aviva and Koki yawning]
Martin drops onto a branch between Aviva and Kokie’s nest and Jimmy’s.
[Upbeat music plays, leaves rustling]
Koki says, MARTIN? YOU'RE BACK!
Martin says, I'VE BEEN TRACKING ZACH ALL NIGHT. I FOUND HIS CAMP, BUT WE NEED A STRATEGY TO PULL OFF THIS RESCUE.
Aviva says, RESCUE? DID SOMEONE SAY RESCUE?
An animal power disc pops out of Aviva’s computer. She catches it and throws it to Martin.
[Typing, whirring, beeping, whooshing]
Martin says, NO WAY! A CHIMP DISC?!
Koki says, AMAZING! CHIMPANZEE POWER!
[Upbeat music plays]
Martin says, THIS COULD BE THE ANSWER. INSERT CHIMPANZEE POWER DISC.
[Whirring]
Martin says, TOUCH CHIMPANZEE.
Martin gently touches a chimpanzee and then leaps down to a branch.
[Slide whistle]
Martin says, AND ACTIVATE CHIMPANZEE POWER!
Martin’s suit changes and he becomes more muscular. His feet look like hands, and he curls his toes.
[Whirring, zapping, upbeat music plays]
Martin says, CHIMPANZEE POWER!
Martin leaps from branch to branch.
[Whooshing]
Martin says, WOW! I FEEL SO STRONG AND ATHLETIC.
(CLIMBING GRUNTS)
Martin says, I CAN CLIMB SO WELL NOW! I FEEL KINDA LIKE...CHRIS! NOW I KNOW WHY CHRIS - WOOHOO- LIKES CLIMBING SO MUCH!
Aviva says, OKAY MARTIN, ENOUGH CLIMBING. YOU GOT TO USE THOSE POWERS TO RESCUE THAT MOTHER CHIMP.
Koki says, WE'LL STAY WITH THE TROOP UNTIL YOU GET HER BACK.
Martin says, RIGHT! I'LL BE BACK SOON. OH IT'S GREAT, TO BE A GREAT APE!
Zach stands in front of a pavilion. Beneath the canopy top, Gabby’s mom sits behind a table. Three Zachbots stand behind Zach.
Zach says, YES, VERY GOOD!
Gabby’s mom wears a metal helmet. Zach pushes a button, and a light on top of the helmet turns red. Tools hang from the canopy above her. A Zachbot’s head is on the table.
[Beeping]
Zach says, WITH MY MIND CONTROL HELMET ATTACHED, SHE DOES WHATEVER I WANT.
Gabby’s mom grabs a tool and works on the Zachbot head.
[Buzzing]
Zach says, AND SEE, THE CHIMP DOESN'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES. HER INTELLIGENCE IS SUPERIOR. TO YOU, NOT ME. I'M STILL THE SMARTEST!
Martin hangs in a tree above Zach. He jumps down onto the canopy.
[Whooshing, gentle music plays]
Martin says, OKAY, A CHIMP IS ONE AND A HALF TIMES STRONGER THAN AN ADULT HUMAN. SO I'LL USE MY CHIMP STRENGTH IN THIS RESCUE.
Martin runs to the edge of the canopy and glares down at Zach.
Martin says, OKAY, ZACH. THAT CHIMP IS NOT GOING TO BE YOUR ASSISTANT ANYMORE!
Zach says, NICE OUTFIT, BUT IT'S NO MATCH FOR MY ZACHBOTS. GET HIM!
[Dramatic music plays, whirring]
Martin leaps for a vine. The three Zachbots fly up and chase him. Martin smiles and elbow bombs the first Zachbot. It falls apart.
[Smashing]
Martin kicks the second Zachbot, and it falls off the canopy.
[Crashing]
Martin grabs the third Zachbots hands and they push against each other.
[Creaking, whooshing]
Martin says, YOU'RE FORGETTING ABOUT CHIMP STRENGTH, ZACH. CHIMPS HAVE MORE FAST-TWITCH MUSCLES THAN A HUMAN, AND THAT MUSCLE IS THE KIND BEST FOR STRENGTH.
Martin hits the Zachbot. Martin picks up the Zachbot and leaps high into the air.
[Smashing, grunting, slide whistles]
Martin says, HUMANS HAVE MORE SLOW-TWITCH MUSCLES, WHICH ARE BEST FOR ENDURANCE.
Martin and the Zachbot fall to the ground in front of Zach.
[Slide whistle, crashing]
Zach shouts, WHOA! AHH!!!
Zach falls backwards.
Martin says, THAT'S CHIMP STRENGTH FOR YA!
Martin flexes his bicep.
Zach shouts, ARGH! HMM...
Zach sits up and takes out a device. He pushes a button. Gabby’s mom stops working and charges at Martin.
[Whirring, beeping, Martin ooking]
Gabby’s mom pushes the button on Martin’s suit.
[Beeping, whirring]
Martin says, HM?! UH-OH!
Zach says, GET HIM!
A Zachbot wraps its arm around Martin, pinning his arms to his sides.
[Whirring, dramatic music plays]
Martin says, OH! UH! AAAH!
(STRUGGLE)
Zach says, OH WHERE ARE THOSE FAST-TWITCH MUSCLES NOW?
Martin says, ZACH, LET ME GO. AND THE CHIMPANZEE TOO. SHE'S A MOM! SHE NEEDS TO GET BACK TO HER BABY NOW. CHRIS CAN'T LOOK AFTER LITTLE GABBY FOREVER.
Zach says, A BABY CHIMP... INTERESTING! WELL, I COULD USE A LITTLE MORE ASSISTANCE AROUND HERE.
Martin says, ZACH, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT...
Zach says, TOO LATE. I ALREADY DID! ZACHBOTS! LET'S GOT GET THAT CHIMP!
[Evil cackling]
In the Tortuga, Chris chases Gabby.
[Chris chuckling, Gabby hooting, chair whirring, upbeat music plays]
Chris says, YOU DON'T THINK I CAN'T CATCH YOU? OH, YOU RASCAL! HERE I COME!
Gabby takes the chair remote.
[Hooting]
Chris says, HEY! HEY NO FAIR! THAT'S MY REMOTE. OK, SO SCIENTISTS HAVE SHOWN THAT CHIMPS HAVE SOME CAPACITY TO LEARN HUMAN SIGN LANGUAGE, BUT I KNOW SOME CHIMP-STYLE GESTURES THAT YOU USE. COME HERE. C'MON, I KNOW YOU UNDERSTAND. IT'S HOW CHIMPS SAY 'COME HERE' WITH THEIR HAND OUT LIKE THIS.
Gabby gives Chris the remote.
Chris says, THANK YOU. WELL, THERE'S THAT HAPPY FACE AGAIN.
Gabby smiles at Chris.
Chris says, OH, I'LL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO LAUGH ABOUT!
Chris tickles Gabby.
[Chuckling]
In a tree, a chimpanzee with a white chin eats green fruit.
[Chimpanzee hooting]
Jimmy says, THAT CALL MUST MEAN "LET'S STOP FOR A SNACK". YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME TWICE.
Jimmy stretches out his arm.
Jimmy says, AH! AAAH! I CAN'T QUITE REACH.
[Jimmy grunting]
Koki says, IT'S COOL THAT ONE OF THESE CHIMPS FOUND THIS FRUITING TREE AND CALLED EVERYONE ELSE OVER.
[Sniffing, hooting, leaves rustling]
Aviva says, I KNOW, I NEVER KNEW THAT CHIMPS HAD SO MANY CALLS AND GESTURES FOR COMMUNICATING.
Koki says, THEY HAVE OVER 100 DIFFERENT CALLS, GESTURES, AND FACIAL EXPRESSIONS THAT SCIENTISTS KNOW. THEY EVEN HAVE WAYS OF REFERRING TO EACH INDIVIDUAL WITH DIFFERENT SOUNDS.
Aviva says, HEY JIMMY, IF YOU WANT HER TO SHARE, TRY PUTTING OUT YOUR HAND LIKE THIS.
The chimpanzee with the white chin gives Jimmy a green fruit.
Jimmy says, THANKS! THAT'S THE HUMAN WAY OF SAYING, I APPRECIATE YOU.
[Jimmy munching]
Jimmy says, MM HM HM! DEE-LICIOUS!
[Communicator beeping]
Martin whispers, SHHH. DON'T SAY ANYTHING. BUT I'VE BEEN CAPTURED BY ZACH. WE'RE ON OUR WAY TO THE TORTUGA AND...
A Zachbot’s face appears on the screen and the call ends.
[Zapping, beeping, static hissing, ominous music plays]
Aviva says, UH-OH. THIS IS NOT GOOD. LITTLE GABBY IS THERE WITH CHRIS. AND CHRIS IS STILL INJURED.
Koki says, WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO HELP THEM...FAST!
At the Tortuga, Zach, his Zachbots, Gabby’s mom, and Martin stop beside a ramp.
[Whirring, beeping]
Zach says, AND...APE ASSISTANT STOP!
Zach pushes the button on the device, and Gabby’s mom stops.
Zach says, NOW, I'M GOING TO LEAVE MY ASSISTANT HERE OUTSIDE, WHILE I GO IN TO COLLECT THE LITTLE ONE. YOU...FOLLOW ME!
Two Zachbots follow Zach up the ramp.
[Whirring]
Zach says, OH, HELLO! I'M HERE FOR THAT!
The two Zachbots move towards Chris and Gabby. Gabby hugs Chris tightly.
[Whirring, distressed call, tense music plays]
Chris says, NO WAY, ZACH! SHE'S GONNA BE PICKED UP BY HER TROOP, AND HER MOM, NOT YOU.
Zach says, YEAH? WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? HAND HER OVER!
Chris says, NO. GABBY RUN!
Gabby jumps away from a Zachbot.
[Energetic music plays, whirring]
Zach says, GET BACK HERE!
Zach says, OH!
Gabby lands on Zach’s head and takes his device.
[Zach shrieking]
Zach says, HEY, THAT'S MINE!
Gabby holds the device over her head. The Zachbots charge her from different directions and crash into each other.
[Whirring, smashing, hooting]
Zach says, GIVE ME THAT BACK! I SAID, GIVE ME THAT!
Gabby climbs the tree in the Tortuga.
Zach says, DON'T MAKE ME COME UP THERE!
Chris says, WELL, THAT'S NO WAY TO TALK TO A CHIMP. BUT I KNOW CHIMP LANGUAGE. THE CHIMP GESTURE FOR "COME HERE. " COME HERE.
Zach says, I SAID, GIVE ME THAT!
Gabby jumps down and bounces off Zach’s head.
[Hooting]
Zach shouts, AH...OH! UGH!
Gabby lands on Chris’s lap and gives him the device.
[Chris chuckling]
Chris says, THANKS! YOU UNDERSTOOD!
Zach says, NO!
Chris says, SORRY ZACH, WE'RE GREAT APES WHO KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. AND GABBY'S MOM WILL NOT BE YOUR ASSISTANT ANYMORE!
[Button clicking]
Outside, Gabby’s mom shakes her head.
[Beeping, whooshing]
Martin says, YES! YOU'RE FREE!
[Grunting]
Martin says, TOUCH CHIMPANZEE AND REACTIVATE.
Martin touches Gabby’s mom. She runs up the ramp.
Martin develops chimpanzee power and breaks free of the Zachbot.
[Zapping, smashing]
Martin says, WOO!! TO THE GABBY RESCUE! HEY, ZACH...
Martin and Gabby’s mom stand by the door of the Tortuga.
Zach says, HUH? GET THEM!
A Zachbot swings at Martin, and he ducks. He leaps high and then smashes both fists on the head of the Zachbot.
[Whirring, tense music plays, Martin grunting, smashing]
Martin says, THAT'S CHIMPANZEE POWER!
Gabby’s mom jumps onto a Zachbot and hits it. She takes off the helmet.
[Whirring, banging, whirring]
Martin says, STRENGTH!
Gabby’s mom puts the helmet on Zach.
[Thunking, hooting]
Martin says, AGILITY!
Chris says, AND INTELLIGENCE!
Gabby pushes the button on Zach’s device, and the red light on the helmet glows.
[Gabby hooting, beeping]
Zach dances.
[Beeping, disco music plays, amused cries, clicking]
[Chris chuckling]
Chris says, WELL, THAT'S A NEW TWIST ON THE APE ASSISTANT.
[Martin laughing]
Martin says, YOU REALLY KNOW HOW TO MAKE AN EXIT ZACH.
Zach dances out of the Tortuga. Koki and Aviva watch him pass.
Zach says, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR CHIMPS! THEY'RE NOT GOOD ASSISTANTS ANYWAY.
[Zach whining]
[Chris laughing]
Chris asks, CAN YOU MAKE SURE ZACH GETS HOME SAFELY, AVIVA?
Aviva says, I'D BE GLAD TO!
Chris gives Avivia the device and she pushes the button. Zach does the worm.
[Beeping]
Aviva says, THERE. HE'LL DANCE RIGHT BACK TO CAMP.
Gabby and her mom hug.
[Gentle music plays]
Martin says, AWW. GABBY AND HER MOM TOGETHER AGAIN.
[Martin chuckling]
Chris says, AND YOU BROUGHT THE TROOP BACK TOO!
[Hooting]
Martin says, UH, BUT WHERE'S JIMMY?
Koki says, HE MADE SOME FRIENDS.
In the tree, Jimmy gives the chimpanzee with the white chin a fruit.
[Whooshing, rustling]
Jimmy says, HERE, TRY THIS ONE. IT'S REALLY RIPE.
[Munching]
Later, Martin leaps from a tree branch to a vine.
[Martin grunting, rustling]
Martin leaps onto the Tortuga, where Koki, Aviva, Chris, Gabby, and Jimmy wait.
[Upbeat music plays]
Martin says, HA! WELL, THAT'S CREATURE MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! WE CLIMBED WITH ONE OF THE GREATEST CLIMBERS IN THE WORLD, THE GREAT CHIMPANZEES. I'LL NEVER CLIMB THAT WELL AGAIN.
Chris says, I'M GLAD YOU GOT TO DO IT, BRO.
Aviva says, SORRY YOU DIDN'T GET TO CLIMB THIS TIME, CHRIS.
Chris says, IT'S OKAY. GABBY HELPED ME MAKE THE BEST OUT OF A BAD SITUATION. I GOT TO SEE ANOTHER SIDE OF CHIMPS THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE SEE IF I WAS CLIMBING AROUND. AND THAT WAS PRETTY SPECIAL. BYE.
Gabby waves at Chris and runs to the forest.
[Upbeat music plays]
Martin says, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE A LOT ALIKE, CHIMPANZEES HAVE THEIR OWN LANGUAGE AND WAY OF LIFE.
[Leaves rustling, hooting]
Aviva says, AND NOW THE TROOP IS TOGETHER AGAIN, AND BACK WHERE THEY BELONG - IN THEIR FOREST HOME.
Chris says, LIVING FREE, AND IN THE WILD.
Martin says, HEY WAIT FOR ME!
Koki says, MARTIN, THE ADVENTURE IS OVER!
Martin says, HEY, I'M GONNA KEEP LIVING THE CHIMP LIFE FOR A WHILE.
Aviva says, I ALWAYS KNEW HE'D GO APE ONE OF THESE DAYS.
[Everyone laughing]
In reality, Martin and Chris walk on the path in the forest.
Martin says, SO, CHIMPANZEES ARE INCREDIBLY ATHLETIC.
Chris says, AND SOCIAL, WITH MANY WAYS OF COMMUNICATING WITH ONE ANOTHER.
Martin says, A FEW MORE THINGS HAVE ALWAYS STRUCK US ABOUT CHIMPANZEES...
Chris and Martin says, INTELLIGENCE!
Video footage shows a chimpanzee lying in brush.
[Background chatter]
Chris says, AND I REMEMBER ONE OF THE FIRST TIMES WE WITNESSED THIS SO CLEARLY.
A chimpanzee hugs Martin, and he smiles.
Martin says, OH, YEAH!
Chris says, HEY, BUDDY!
Chris narrates, IT WAS AT A CHIMPANZEE RESCUE CENTER IN AFRICA. PLACES LIKE THIS, ALLOW ORPHAN CHIMPS TO GROW UP IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. HERE, WE HAD THE CHANCE TO SPEND SOME TIME HELPING YOUNG CHIMPS LEARN IMPORTANT CHIMP SKILLS,
Chris bangs a rock against a larger rock. Chimpanzees gather around him and watch.
[Banging]
Chris narrates, LIKE USING TOOLS. WHEN I TAUGHT THEM HOW TO USE A ROCK TO GET A SWEET TREAT, YOU COULD SEE THE INTELLIGENCE AT WORK.
Chris gives the rock to a chimpanzee.
Chris says, YOU TRY.
The chimpanzee hits a nut with the rock.
[Banging, upbeat music plays]
Chris says, YOU'RE GETTING IT. PERFECT! EXCELLENT JOB!
(TAPPING ROCK)
Chris narrates, THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE CULTURE. IN SOME CHIMPANZEE COMMUNITIES, LEARNING HOW TO CRACK OPEN THESE PALM NUTS AND GET TO THE JUICY FLESH INSIDE.
Chris says, THIS TAKES SMARTS, THIS TAKES THE ABILITY TO IMITATE AND TO LEARN.
[Rock tapping]
In the present, Martin says, NO DOUBT, CHIMPS ARE VERY SMART CREATURES. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL.
Chris says, WHEN YOU SPEND TIME WITH THEM, IT'S CLEAR THAT EACH CHIMP HAS A UNIQUE, ONE OF A KIND PERSONALITY.
Martin says, JUST LIKE US!
Chris says, BLOOP, BLOOP, BLOOP... LET'S GO, LET'S GO!
Video footage shows Martin giving a chimpanzee a piggyback ride.
[Laughing, hooting]
Martin says, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
Martin narrates, WE NOTICED SOME CHIMPS WERE GENTLE, AND SOME WERE PRETTY RAMBUNCTIOUS.
Martin says, DON'T TAKE THE MICROPHONE COVER! THE MICROPHONE COVER. OHHHH....
A chimpanzee grabs the microphone cover and runs into the forest.
[Tree rustling]
Chris asks, WHO TOOK IT? WHO TOOK MY MIC?
WHOA...THESE CHIMPS ALL HAVE THEIR OWN PERSONALITY. SOME LIKE TO FLING RIGHT INTO YOUR FACE OR THEY'RE MISCHIEVOUS AND LIKE TO TAKE YOUR MICROPHONE FOAM. OTHERS JUST LIKE TO HANG OUT WITH A FRIEND. NICE CALM AND PEACEFUL.
A chimpanzee hangs off Chris’s back.
Martin says, IS CHRIS GIVIN YOU A GOOD PIGGYBACK RIDE? HUH? IS HE? YEAH.
Martin kisses the chimpanzee’s forehead.
[Smooching, Chris chuckling]
Chris says, LET'S GO EXPLORE!
[Upbeat music plays]
In the present, Chris says, WE HOPE WE CAN ALL KEEP GETTING TO KNOW AND LEARN MORE, ABOUT OUR FELLOW GREAT APE.
Martin says, THE CHIMPANZEES! KEEP ON CREATURE ADVENTURING!
Chris says, WE'LL SEE YOU ON THE CREATURE TRAIL!
[Energetic theme music plays]
