Laura and Monica appear on split screens, each sitting inside their own room. Laura wears an orange T-shirt and Monica wears a patterned blue hoodie.
A says HEY, TVOKIDS. IT'S LAURA AND MONICA HERE, AND TODAY IS NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY. BUT BEFORE WE GET STARTED WITH OUR SHOW, WE WANTED TO TAKE A MOMENT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE IMPACT THAT COLONIALISM HAS HAD ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN CANADA. UNFORTUNATELY, CANADA HAS NOT TREATED INDIGENOUS PEOPLE WITH RESPECT, AND MOVING FORWARD, THAT MUST CHANGE.
A caption appears on screen. It reads "TVOKids.com."
s says THAT'S RIGHT. FOR MORE RESOURCES, HEAD TO TVOKIDS.COM AND TAKE A LOOK AT OUR BOOK LIST FEATURING INDIGENOUS AUTHORS WHERE YOU CAN LEARN MORE.
a says ONE WAY TO SUPPORT AND STAND WITH INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN CANADA IS TO LEARN ABOUT AND CELEBRATE THEIR CULTURE. SO TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO DO JUST THAT.
s says SO, STICK AROUND TO LEARN MORE AND CELEBRATE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY.
Music plays as an animated slate shows a map unfolding. The name of the show reads "That TVOKids Show from home."
S says HEY, TVOKIDS. WELCOME TO THAT TVOKIDS SHOW AT HOME, AND TODAY, WE'RE HERE TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH.
a says THAT'S RIGHT. JUNE IS NATIONAL INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY CELEBRATE AND HONOUR INDIGENOUS HISTORY EVERY DAY AND EVERY MONTH OF THE YEAR. NOW, WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT HOW SOME PEOPLE ARE CELEBRATING AROUND THE PROVINCE, BUT FIRST, MONICA, WHAT DOES THE WORD "INDIGENOUS" MEAN?
s says THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION. SO, "INDIGENOUS" ACTUALLY MEANS ORIGINATING NATURALLY IN ONE PLACE, AND THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES WERE THE FIRST PEOPLE HERE IN CANADA. AND NOW, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT NATIONAL INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH AS WELL AS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY, "INDIGENOUS" IS ACTUALLY AN UMBRELLA TERM THAT REFERS TO ALL FIRST NATIONS, METIS, AND INUIT PEOPLE.
a says COOL, AND FUN FACT, MONICA, DID YOU KNOW THAT THE WORD "CANADA" ACTUALLY COMES FROM A HURON IROQUOIS WORD, "KANATA," WHICH MEANS VILLAGE OR SETTLEMENT? PRETTY COOLER, AND DO YOU WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING EVEN COOLER?
s says YES, OF COURSE.
a says OKAY. SO, MANY INDIGENOUS PEOPLE ACTUALLY CALL CANADA, INCLUDING NORTH AMERICA AND CENTRAL AMERICA, BY THE NAME OF TURTLE ISLAND. SO, THE NAME TURTLE ISLAND ACTUALLY CAME FROM INDIGENOUS CREATION STORIES THAT CAME LONG BEFORE ANYONE EVER CALLED THIS COUNTRY CANADA.
s says WOW. THAT'S REALLY COOL. (LAUGHING) ANOTHER FUN FACT IS THAT WE DON'T WANT TO GIVE AWAY OUR SECRET LOCATION AT THE TVO HEADQUARTERS, BUT WE ARE ON TRADITIONAL TERRITORIES.
a says THAT'S RIGHT, THE TERRITORIES OF THE MISSISSAUGA OF THE CREDIT, THE ANISHINAABE, THE CHIPPEWA, THE HAUDENOSAUNEE, AND THE WENDAT PEOPLES. AND IT'S NOW HOME TO MANY DIVERSE FIRST NATION, INUIT, AND METIS PEOPLES.
Monica says THAT'S AMAZING. AND WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOME AMAZING TVO KIDS CALLERS. LET'S INTRODUCE THEM. IT'S NIIMIN AND BIIDAABAN.
Laura says HELLO. HI, HI, YOU TWO.
Biidaaban and Niimin sit inside a room at home and wave.
A caption reads "Biidaaban and Niimin."
Laura says OKAY, DO YOU TWO WANT TO INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO THE REST OF THE TVO KIDS?
Biidaaban says SURE.
Niimin says WELL, I AM NIIMIN.
Biidaaban says AND THIS IS BIIDAABAN.
Laura says NIIMIN AND BIIDAABAN, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HANGING OUT WITH US TODAY. FIRST OFF, I WANNA KNOW. HOW DO YOU USUALLY CELEBRATE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MONTH?
Niimin says WELL, WE USUALLY GO TO POW-WOWS WHERE WE JUST CELEBRATE.
Laura says THAT'S REALLY COOL. NOW, WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS YEAR? I KNOW THIS YEAR'S A BIT DIFFERENT 'CAUSE EVERYBODY'S AT HOME. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS?
Biidaaban says I DON'T KNOW.
Niimin says YEAH, WE'RE NOT REALLY SURE YET.
Laura says YOU'RE NOT SURE YET? THAT'S TOTALLY FAIR. BUT I THINK YOU HAVE SOME AWESOME STUFF TO SHOW US, RIGHT?
Niimin says YEP.
Biidaaban says YEP.
Laura says COOL! WELL, I GUESS TELL US ABOUT YOUR DANCING.
Niimin says WELL, WE BOTH ARE FANCY SHAWL DANCERS. WHICH I THINK IS REALLY NICE.
Monica says HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN FANCY SHAWL DANCING?
Niimin says WELL, MY MOM JUST MADE MY LITTLE SISTER REGALIA. AND SHE WOULD JUST GO AROUND WALKING AND JUST LITTLE, AND JUST HOPPING AROUND.
Monica says THAT'S AMAZING. CAN WE SEE SOME OF THE REGALIA?
Niimin says YES, OF COURSE.
She holds up a beaded pattern in the shape of a green leaf against an orange background.
Monica says OH, WOW.
Niimin says THIS HERE IS FROM A CAPE.
Biidaaban holds up a sequined blue dress with red tassels and says AND THIS IS MINE TOO.
Monica says THAT'S AMAZING.
Laura says WOW.
Monica says WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT FANCY SHAWL DANCING?
Biidaaban says UM... CAUSE IT'S FUN.
Niimin says YEAH, SHE REALLY DOES PLAY.
Laura says WOW. THAT IS SO COOL. NIIMIN, DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE THING ABOUT FANCY SHAWL DANCING?
Niimin says WELL, I GUESS I DO. I JUST... I REALLY LIKE THE REGALIA AND IT JUST MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I BELONG.
Laura says I LOVE THAT. IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU BELONG, LIKE YOU'RE A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER. THAT IS SO COOL. YOU TWO ARE AMAZING. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HANGING OUT WITH US TODAY. WE ACTUALLY HAVE SOME FOOTAGE OF YOU TWO DOING SOME OF YOUR FANCY SHAWL DANCING. SO, TVO KIDS, LET'S CHECK IT OUT.
A clip plays. A title reads "Basic steps with Niimin and Biidaaban."
Both girls stand inside a living room wearing colourful beaded and tasseled attire.
Niimin says THE FIRST THING THAT WE'RE GONNA DO TO WANT TO LEARN THE BASIC STEP IS A NICE LITTLE CLAP.
As they clap, both say SO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO.
Niimin says OKAY. SO NOW THAT WE'VE GOT THAT MEMORIZED, WE COULD GO ONTO THE GROUND AND BRING THAT LITTLE CLAP ONTO THE GROUND. So...
They both kneel down on the floor and bang the floor two times with each hand as they count ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO.
As both stand back up, Niimin says NOW WE'RE GONNA BRING THAT, BUT, SO, WE'RE GONNA STAND BACK UP. EXCEPT THIS TIME WE'RE ACTUALLY GONNA BRING IT INTO OUR FEET. So...
As they stomp on the ground twice with each foot, alternatively, they count ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO, ONE, TWO. ONE.
Niimin says OKAY, SO, NOW THAT WE'VE GOT THAT PROGRAMMED INTO OUR HEADS, WE COULD GET A BIT SILLY. A BIT SILLY. I'LL GET ALL THOSE CRAZINESS OUT OF US.
She spins around as she shakes her arms and legs. Niimin watches.
Niimin says OKAY, SO, WE'RE FIRST GONNA START WITH VERY SLOW moves. So...
Biidaaban stomps slowly as she counts ONE, TWO. ONE...
(YELLING) (GRUNTING) (LAUGHING)
As they both stomp slowly, they count ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO. ONE, TWO.
The clip ends.
Laura says WELCOME BACK, TVO KIDS. I'M SO EXCITED TO WELCOME OUR NEXT GUEST, LESLIE, WHO IS AN INDIGENOUS MUSEUM EDUCATOR AT THE ROM. WELCOME, LESLIE.
Leslie pops up on screen and waves. She has long straight brown hair.
A caption reads "Leslie. ROM Indigenous Museum Educator."
Leslie says HI, TVO KIDS.
Laura says OKAY, LESLIE, I'M SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU HERE TODAY. FIRST OFF, I WANT TO KNOW, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO CELEBRATE INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH?
Leslie says WELL, BECAUSE WE'RE NOT ABLE TO GATHER IN LARGE GROUPS, I'M GOING TO BE HANGING OUT IN MY GARDEN. I CREATED A THREE SISTERS GARDEN AND SOME STRAWBERRIES. AND THIS MONTH IS "ODEMIINI-GIIZIS," WHICH MEANS "STRAWBERRY MOON." SO HOPEFULLY I'LL BE PICKING AND EATING STRAWBERRIES.
Laura says SOUNDS SO YUMMY AND SO EXCITING! UM, OKAY, LESLIE, I KNOW THAT AN IMPORTANT PART ABOUT LEARNING ABOUT CULTURE IS THE LANGUAGE. SO, I WAS HOPING THAT YOU COULD TEACH ME AND THE TVO KIDS A BIT ABOUT YOUR LANGUAGE.
Leslie says TOTALLY. IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT WE ALL SPEAK OUR OWN LANGUAGES BECAUSE IT MAKES OUR ANCESTORS HAPPY. SO, THE FIRST WORD I WANT TO TEACH YOU IS "AANIIN."
Laura says AANIIN. AWESOME.
Leslie says WHICH IS "HELLO." THE NEXT ONE IS "MIIGWECH."
Laura says MIIGWECH.
Leslie says WHICH MEANS "THANK YOU." AND "GCHI-MIIGWECH" IS A REALLY BIG THANK YOU.
Laura says GCHI-MIIGWECH.
Leslie says AWESOME. AND "BAAMAAPI."
Laura says BAAMAAPI.
Leslie says AND ALSO TRY "N'GWAABMIN."
Laura says N'GWAABMIN.
Leslie says SO BOTH OF THOSE WORDS MEAN "SEE YOU LATER." BECAUSE THERE IS NO WORD FOR "GOODBYE" IN MY LANGUAGE.
Laura says THAT'S SO COOL. WHY IS THERE NO WORD FOR GOODBYE?
Leslie says BECAUSE WE WILL ALWAYS SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN, TVO KIDS.
Laura says THAT IS SO SPECIAL. I REALLY LOVE THAT, LESLIE. CAN YOU TELL ME, AND THE TVO KIDS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY? WHAT ARE YOU WEARING? ANYTHING SPECIAL?
Leslie says I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO BE WEARING MY BEST. I LOVE WEARING EARRINGS. AND I'M GOING TO BE BRAIDING MY HAIR. SO MY HAIR IS SUPER LONG.
As she holds up her long hair, she says IT'S 55 INCHES, OR 139 CENTIMETRES LONG. SO I'M GOING TO BRAID IT. AND BRAIDING TALKS ABOUT EITHER OUR MIND, OUR BODY, AND OUR SPIRIT, OR OUR PAST, OUR PRESENT, AND OUR FUTURE. AND ONE STRAND OF HAIR ISN'T STRONG ALONE, BUT WHEN IT'S BRAIDED, IT BECOMES VERY STRONG. SO I'M GONNA DEFINITELY BRAID MY HAIR.
Laura says THAT IS SO COOL. I LOVE THAT THERE'S SUCH SYMBOLISM IN BRAIDING YOUR HAIR. THAT'S REALLY SPECIAL. LESLIE, CAN YOU SHARE WITH THE TVO KIDS IF THERE'S ANYWHERE ONLINE THAT THEY CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT INDIGENOUS HISTORY?
Leslie says TOTALLY. SO, I WORK AT THE ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM. SO YOU CAN COME ON OVER TO WWW.ROM.ON.CA. AND YOU CAN COME AND VISIT THE FIRST PEOPLES' GALLERY WHEN WE ARE OPEN AGAIN. IT'S FREE TO THE PUBLIC ALL OF THE TIME. SO WE HOPE THAT WE SEE YOU DOWN AT THE ROM VERY SOON.
Laura says THAT IS AMAZING. LESLIE, MIIGWECH. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE WITH US TODAY. WE'LL SEE YOU AGAIN SOON.
Leslie says MIIGWECH. BAAMAAPI N'GWAABMIN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING ME.
Laura says SEE YOU LATER.
Leslie says SEE YOU!
Leslie disappears.
Laura says TVO KIDS, SOME AWESOME STUFF TO LEARN THERE FROM LESLIE. AND YOU CAN ALSO GO TVOKIDS.COM AS WELL, AND CHECK OUT ONE OF OUR GAMES: WOLF JOE AND THE SEVEN TEACHINGS WHEEL. HERE'S A SNEAK PEEK ABOUT ONE OF THE TEACHINGS YOU CAN LEARN IN THE GAME.
In an animated clip, Wolf Joe, an indigenous young man wearing traditional clothes, stands next to a big blue box containing the phrase "Welcome to Turtle Bay!"
Wolf Joe says BOOZHOO!
Text reads "Joe, Nina, and Buddy want to know all about the seven teachings of their people. But where should they start? Try helping some people out and see what you can learn!"
A young boy appears near Wolf Joe.
Wolf Joe says Hello, Buddy! Would you like to help me cook?
Buddy says Okay! But I don't know how.
Wolf Joe says Don't worry. I'll teach you! We have to make enough for the whole community, so let's get started. Let's make bannock!
In animation, a hand-shaped cursor adds ingredients to a bowl and green ticks appear briefly. The hand adds milk and salt.
Wolf Joe says WELL DONE, BUDDY. KEEP IT UP.
The hand adds sugar, butter and a measuring cup.
Wolf Joe says YOU GOT IT.
Buddy says Oof! That was hard work.
Wolf Joe says Yes, you gave a lot of energy for the community today. How does that make you feel?
Buddy says I like it! It makes me feel important and helpful.
Wolf Joe says You are. And for being dedicated to your community, you've earned the teaching of the buffalo!
A golden puzzle piece with an image of a buffalo pops up.
The clip ends.

Monica says HEY, TVO KIDS! SURPRISE! THAT WAS ACTUALLY FOOTAGE OF ME PLAYING ONE OF MY FAVOURITE VIDEOGAMES: WOLF JOE AND THE SEVEN TEACHINGS WHEEL. I HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME YET. SO DO NOT TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SEVENTH TEACHING. I'LL FIND OUT ON MY OWN. ANYWAYS, WE HAVE AN AMAZING GUEST. LET'S WELCOME NYLA!
Nyla pops up on screen. She has long straight dark hair.
A caption reads "Nyla. Filmmaker."
Nyla says HEY! HOW'S IT GOING?
Monica say GOOD, HOW ARE YOU?
Nyla says I'M GOOD. THANKS. HAPPY TO BE HERE.
Monica says I'M SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU HERE. AND, LET'S JUST GET RIGHT INTO IT. I KNOW, NYLA, YOU CO-CREATED THE MARVEL COMICS SUPERHERO SNOWGUARD. COULD YOU TELL THE TVO KIDS WHO SHE IS, WHERE SHE'S FROM, AND WHAT HER SUPERPOWERS ARE?
A picture pops up on screen of a drawing of Snowguard, a young female superhero with big feathery white wings who flies over a town surrounded by snow and ice.
Nyla says YEAH, SO SNOWGUARD IS A TEENAGED SUPERHERO, MEMBER OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. AND SHE'S FROM THIS REALLY TINY COMMUNITY WAY UP IN THE ARCTIC CALLED PANG. AND SHE IS, LIKE I MENTIONED IT, A TEEN SUPERHERO. SHE IS ABLE TO HARNESS THE POWER OF SILA, WHICH IS KIND OF LIKE THIS LIFE FORCE, THIS LIFE ENERGY UP IN THE ARCTIC. AND SHE CAN TRANSFORM INTO ANIMALS, AND ALSO FLY WITH WINGS THAT SHE'S ABLE TO GROW.
Monica says THAT'S AMAZING. AND, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GET THIS QUESTION A LOT, BUT, IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Nyla says YOU KNOW, I'M ALREADY PRETTY STRONG. SO, I THINK THAT I WOULD CHOOSE TO BE ABLE TO FLY IF I COULD.
Monica says THAT'S AWESOME. I WOULD CHOOSE TELEPORTATION. 'CAUSE IT'S KIND OF LIKE FLYING, BUT THEN LIKE, IT'S LIKE MORE LOW KEY, LIKE NOBODY WILL SEE ME.
Nyla says STEALTH MODE. I LIKE IT.
Monica says ANYWAYS... (LAUGHING) SO, I KNOW THAT YOU WROTE AND DIRECTED A FEATURE FILM CALLED SLASH/BACK. AND IS IT TRUE THAT WHERE YOU FILMED THE MOVIE, IT'S ACTUALLY THE SAME LOCATION IN WHICH SNOWGUARD IS FROM?
Nyla says YEAH, WE FILMED THIS MOVIE. IT'S AN ALIEN INVASION MOVIE. A GROUP OF TEENAGE GIRLS TAKE ON A GROUP OF ALIENS. AND WE FILMED IT IN, LIKE I MENTIONED, THIS TINY COMMUNITY OF PANG, WHICH MEANT THAT OUR CREW HAD TO ALL TRAVEL TO THIS REALLY REMOTE PLACE AND LIVE THERE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS AND MAKE THIS MOVIE.
A picture shows a snow-capped mountain range enveloped by clouds.
Nyla says AND IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THESE GIGANTIC MOUNTAINS. AND IN THE SUMMER, THE SUN ACTUALLY DOESN'T SET.
Another picture shows a tranquil bay surrounded by icy mountains.
Nyla says IT'S 24 HOUR SUNLIGHT. AND SO IT WAS KIND OF THIS PERFECT PLACE TO FILM AND SPEND THE SUMMER.
Monica says THAT'S AMAZING. NYLA, WE'VE HAD SO MUCH FUN. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR STORIES WITH US. I KNOW YOU'RE AN INCREDIBLE STORYTELLER ACROSS MULTIPLE MEDIUMS, INTERACTIVE GRAPHIC NOVELS, TV, FILM. YOU DO IT ALL. AND THE TVO KIDS ARE REALLY HAPPY TO HAVE YOU HERE. THANKS SO MUCH FOR HANGING OUT WITH US.
Nyla says THANKS SO MUCH.
Monica says ALL RIGHT, SEE YA LATER.
Nyla says SEE YA!
They both wave and Nyla disappears.
(LAUGHING)
Monica says WOW! THAT WAS AMAZING! I THINK WE NEED TO INVITE LAURA BACK SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT ALL THE AMAZING THINGS WE DID HERE TODAY.
The screen splits to show Laura, who says HEY, TVO KIDS!
Monica says HEY, LAURA!
Laura says I'M BACK. MONICA, I'VE HAD SO MUCH FUN TODAY.
Monica says I DID TOO. AND IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY, WHAT CAN WE DO, LAURA?
Laura says WELL, YOU CAN CHECK OUT THE VIRTUAL EVENT PRESENTED BY SAINTE-MARIE AMONG THE HURONS AND DISCOVERY HARBOUR.
Monica says THAT'S AMAZING. AND THERE ARE AMAZING EVENTS HAPPENING ALL DAY LONG FROM 10:00 AM TO 5:00 PM ON JUNE 21ST. IT'S ALL FREE, ALL FUN. AND GUESS WHAT? YOU CAN DO IT FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME TO CELEBRATE.
Laura says I LOVE IT SO MUCH. TVO KIDS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE TODAY WITH US TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH.

Music plays as an animated slate shows a map unfolding. The name of the show reads "That TVOKids Show from home."
