Matt wears a purple shirt and black jeans. He wears his black curly hair loose.

Laura wears her long dark hair in two braids. She wears an orange teeshirt as she holds a blue shirt on a hanger out to Matt.

A Chihuahua licks Matt’s face. Monica smiles as she taps on a red tablet.

[Happy music plays]

Lucas and Laura sing,
PACK UP YOUR BAGS
KISS YOUR TURTLE GOODBYE
COME UP AND CLIMB
WHERE WE CAN TOUCH THE SKY
SO MUCH TO SEE
SO MUCH TO DO

Lucas and Laura sing, IN OUR TREE FORT
WE GOT A SHOW FOR YOU

A finger writes “TVO Kids” in wet sand.

They sing, THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW

Laura says, PASSWORD, PLEASE.
I’M WAITING.

Text reads, “Pencil.”

[Slide whistle]

Monica dances. She laughs as Matt holds his hands behind his back as he eats watermelon.

Lucas and Laura sing, LA, LA, LA, LA
DO, DO, DO, DO

An animated map unfolds, showing a path from houses to the tree fort.

Lucas and Laura sing, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH
THAT TVO KIDS SHOW

[Upbeat music plays]

Monica wears a purple hoodie and blue jeans. Matt wears a purple shirt and blue jeans. Both wear their black hair loose.

Monica waves and says, HEY, TVOKIDS.

Matt poses with his arms in the air as he says,
TO BE OR NOT TO BE.
THAT IS THE QUESTION!
I AM DOING A POEM.

Monica says, OH, POEM.
IS IT POETRY DAY?

Matt exclaims, TODAY IS POETRY DAY, AND I AM
SO SO EXCITED.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO
TO CELEBRATE.

Monica and Matt say, H'MM.

Monica asks,WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO CELEBRATE
POETRY DAY?

[Clock ticks]

Matt says, H'MM.

Monica says, WAIT A SECOND.

Matt asks, ARE YOU THINKING WHAT
I AM THINKING?

Monica says, I THINK WE ARE THINKING THE
SAME THING.

Matt and Monica say, WE CAN WRITE A POEM!

They jump excitedly around the Tree Fort.

[Children cheer]

Matt says, WE SHOULD WRITE A POEM!
HOW DO YOU WRITE A POEM?

Monica confesses, I HAVE NO IDEA.

Matt says, OKAY. THAT'S FINE.
THAT WILL BE FINE.
WE JUST NEED TO LOOK AT OTHER
STYLES OF POEMS AND THEN WE WILL
GET INSPIRED.

Matt runs away from Monica.

[Running steps]

Monica says, NOW YOU ARE
TALKING. MATT?
HELLO, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

Matt stands in front of a chalkboard. A poem on the chalkboard reads
“Clawed and sassy,
Awesome but nasty.
Trying to be flashy.”

Matt says, THIS IS A POEM THAT I
WILL NOW PERFORM IT FOR YOU.
CLAWED AND SASSY, AWESOME BUT NASTY
TRYING TO BE FLASHY.
OKAY, RIGHT?

SO THIS IS AN ACROSTIC POEM
WHERE THE FIRST LETTER OF EVERY
LINE WHEN READ VERTICALLY SPELLS
THE THEME OF THE POEM.

SO THIS IS ABOUT CATS, RIGHT?
THIS IS AWESOME.

Monica says, THAT'S COOL.
KIND OF LIKE A HIDDEN WORD BUT
NOT REALLY FEELING THE CONTENT.
YOU GOT SOMETHING ELSE FOR US, MATT?

Matt says, OKAY TOTALLY FINE.
I HAVE GOOD OPTIONS.
HOW ABOUT THIS?

Text on the chalkboard reads
“I was so sweaty
Why didn’t I bring some shorts
The summer was cruel.”

Matt reads, I WAS SO SWEATY.
WHY DIDN'T I BRING SOME SHORTS?
THE SUMMER WAS CRUEL.

H'MM? SO?

Monica says, I AM NOT REALLY
FEELING THAT ONE EITHER IF I AM
BEING HONEST.

Matt says, THAT'S OKAY.
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A HAIKU.
SEE, RIGHT?
A HAIKU FOLLOWS A FIVE, SEVEN, FIVE
STRUCTURE.

THE FIRST LINE, I WAS SO SWEATY.
WHY DIDN'T I BRING SOME SHORTS.
THE SUMMER WAS SO CRUEL.
RIGHT, RIGHT? COOL?

Monica says, EXCELLENT AT THE FIVE, SEVEN, FIVE.
YOU GOT THAT DOWN.
I DON'T KNOW, SWEATY, THOUGH.
IT'S KIND OF--

Matt says, YOU ARE RIGHT.
THOSE POEMS WEREN’T AWESOME BUT
THEY WEREN'T THAT BAD.

Monica says, THEY HAVE POTENTIAL.

A graphic of a tablet with a smiling face shakes. Text beneath it reads “Incoming Call.”

[Buzzing, singing ring tone]

Matt smiles as he dances.

Matt says, I LOVE THIS NEW RING TONE.

[Electronic music plays]

Matt laughs and asks, HEY, CALLER, ARE YOU THERE?
WHAT'S YOUR NAME?

A girl says, MEGHAN.

Monica asks, WHAT IS THE
PASSWORD FOR TODAY?

Meghan says, PENCIL.

Monica says, PENCIL, THAT'S CORRECT.
YOU ARE GOING IN THE SKY.

Monica and Matt say, PEW

Meghan appears in the sky. She wears glasses and has her black hair pulled away from her face.

Monica asks, HEY, MEGHAN, HOW'S IT GOING?

Matt says, HEY, MEGHAN!

Meghan says, GOOD.

Text reads “Meghan, age eleven.”

Monica says, MEGHAN, YOU HAVE
A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART.
YOU ARE THE FIRST
TVOKID I TALKED TO.
I TALKED TO YOU A FEW MONTHS AGO.

Matt says, OH, COOL!

Monica says, I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE YOU HERE
ON POETRY DAY.
I UNDERSTAND YOU ARE A POET EXPERT.

SO DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR
TVOKIDS WHO WANT TO WRITE
POEMS OR TVOKIDS HOSTS WHO
DON'T KNOW HOW TO WRITE A POEM?

Meghan says, YES, I DO.

Matt asks, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Meghan suggests, JUST WRITE FROM THE HEART.

Matt says, THAT'S GOOD.
I WAS KIND OF WRITING FROM NOT
FROM THE HEART.
I DON'T THINK IT WAS FROM THE
HEART. THAT'S A GREAT TIP.

AND HEY, WE WILL PLAY A GAME
WITH YOU CAUGHT CUTE TIME-OUT
AND YOU WILL TELL US WHICH ONE
YOU THINK ARE THE CUTEST.
ARE YOU READY?

Meghan says, YES.

Matt says, LET'S DO THE CHAMPION.

An announcer says, CHAMPION!

Text reads “Champion.”

A skunk stands in tall grass as it looks around.

Matt says, WE HAVE GOT A LITTLE
SKUNK HERE.
THEY ARE KNOWN TO BE STINKY,
KIND OF LIKE MY POEMS.
BUT STILL PRETTY CUTE.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Meghan says, YES.

Matt says, YOU LOVE IT.
WHAT DO YOU THINK, OUT OF TEN?
WHAT WOULD YOU GIVE IT FOR CUTENESS?

Meghan says, A FOUR.

Monica and Matt repeat, A FOUR.

Monica says, I THINK WE CAN BEAT THAT.

Matt says, I THINK WE PROBABLY CAN, TOO,
A LOW SCORE FOR THE SKUNK.

Monica says, MAYBE A PRETTY GENEROUS SCORE
FOR THE SKUNK ACTUALLY.

An announcer says, CHALLENGER.

Text reads “Challenger.”

A cat dressed in an orange shirt wiggles by a notepad, moving a pencil.

Matt says, WE LOVE AN ENTRANCE.
WE LOVE AN ENTRANCE.

THIS IS ACTUALLY THE CAT THAT THE
ACROSTIC WAS POEM WAS INSPIRED BY.
A LITTLE KITTY WRITING AWAY THERE.
MEGHAN, WHAT WOULD YOU GIVE THAT
CAT OUT OF TEN?

Meghan says, A TEN.

Mat says, TEN!

Monica says, OH, YEAH!

Matt says, A CAT LOVER.
AWESOME. THE CAT WINS.
THAT IS OUR NEW CHAMPION.

TVOKIDS, IF YOU WANT TO BE
JUST LIKE MEGHAN AND GO UP IN
THE SKY ALL YOU GOT TO DO IS
CALL THIS NUMBER AT THE BOTTOM OF
THE SCREEN.

Text reads “Call us at 1-888-886-5437.”

Matt says, MEGHAN, THANKS SO MUCH FOR
BEING HERE WITH US TODAY.
AND HANG TIGHT BECAUSE WE WILL
HEAR MORE FROM YOU LATER, OKAY?

Monica says, SEE YOU MEGHAN.
YOU ARE THE BEST.

Matt and Monica wave.

[Applause]

Monica says, IF YOU WANT TO BE
LIKE MY BESTIE MEGHAN MEGHAN IS
GOING HOME WITH THIS COOL WOLF
JOE HAT AND WE HAVE A BUNCH OF
THESE LIMITED TIME ONLY.

IF YOU CALL US RIGHT NOW YOU
COULD BE IN THE SKY AND YOU
COULD GET THIS COOL WOLF JOE HAT.
CHECK IT OUT.

Matt says, WE ARE GIVING AWAY
JOE WOLF HATS UNTIL THEY RUN OUT.

THE DAY IS GOING PRETTY FAST AND
WE STILL HAVEN'T WRITTEN A POEM.
YOU DIDN'T LIKE MY SHORT POEM?

Monica says, NOT FOR ME.
I THINK COULD YOU GET SOME HELP
WITH THAT.

I THINK WE SHOULD TALK TO A POET
EXPERT WHO IS ACTUALLY ONTARIO'S
POET LAUREATE RANDELL ADJEI.

Matt asks, WHAT IS A POET LAUREATE?

Monica explains, A POET LAUREATE IS
ACTUALLY SOMEBODY WHO HAS
BEEN APPOINTED BY THE ONTARIO
GOVERNMENT TO COMPOSE POEMS FOR
SPECIAL EVENTS AND OCCASIONS AND
THEIR POEMS HAVE BROUGHT HONOUR
TO THEMSELVES AND TO THE PEOPLE
OF ONTARIO.

IT'S A REALLY PRESTIGIOUS HONOUR.

Matt says, WHOA. OKAY.
LET'S MEET RANDELL.

Monica says, ALL RIGHT.
WELCOME TO THE TREE FORT!

Randell appears in the sky. He wears his long black hair loos and has a black beard and moustache. Randell smiles and waves.

[Applause]

Randell says, HELLO, HELLO.

Text reads “Randell Adjei, Ontario’s first Poet Laureate.”

Matt says, RANDELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR BEING HERE.

CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING THE
POET LAUREATE OF ONTARIO.
WE HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS FOR YOU.

WE ARE PERSONALLY TRYING TO
WRITE A COOL POEM TODAY.
HOW HAS POETRY HELPED YOU
OVERCOME CHALLENGES IN YOUR LIFE?

Randell says, POETRY REALLY GAVE ME AN
OPPORTUNITY TO EXPRESS MYSELF,
TO LEARN ABOUT MYSELF, TO REALLY
OPEN UP ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS
THAT I WAS GOING THROUGH, SOME OF
THE THINGS THAT I WAS
EXPERIENCING IN MY LIFE AND I
THINK POETRY IS JUST A VEHICLE
TO REALLY BE ABLE TO EXPLORE THE
SOUL AND EXPLORE THE BEING AT
THE END OF THE DAY.

Matt says, ABSOLUTELY.
THAT'S WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO
WITH OUR POEMS, TOO.

WHAT IMPACT ARE YOU HOPING TO
HAVE AS THE POET LAUREATE OF ONTARIO?

Randell says, I THINK, YOU KNOW, I REMEMBER
WHEN I USED TO TELL MY FRIENDS
AND MY FAMILY MEMBERS THAT I

WANTED TO BE A POET AND THEY
SAID A POET LIKE YOU ARE NOT
GOING TO MAKE ANY MONEY, YOU
WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS.
THE IMPACT THAT I AM HOPING TO
HAVE IS TO INSPIRE THE NEXT
GENERATION OF POETS TO KNOW THAT
YOU CAN FOLLOW YOUR DREAM.
YOU CAN FOLLOW YOUR VISION
BECAUSE YOUR VISION IS YOURS AND
IT'S NO ONE ELSE'S TO TELL YOU
WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR VISION.

I AM HOPING TO INSPIRE THAT AND
TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE USE POETRY
AS A WAY TO TALK ABOUT THEIR
HARDSHIPS, THE TRAUMA, THE
CHALLENGES AND ALSO JUST EXPRESS
THEMSELVES YOU KNOW?
I THINK THAT IS WHAT I AM REALLY
TRYING TO DO.

Monica says, YOU HAVE INSPIRED
SO MANY PEOPLE, ADULTS AND KIDS.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO TVOKIDS
WATCHING WHO MAYBE WANT TO
BECOME A WRITER?

Randell says, IF YOU WANT TO BE A WRITER
ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I CAN SAY
IS A CURIOUS INDIVIDUAL.
TRY TO LOOK AT LIFE FROM THE
PERSPECTIVE IF THIS IS LIFE I
WANT YOU TO BE HERE AND JUST
QUESTION LIFE, SMELL IT, TASTE IT.

JUST LOOK AT IT FROM DIFFERENT
PERSPECTIVES BECAUSE WE ARE ALL
HERE TO EXPERIENCE AND I THINK
AS AN ARTIST YOU HAVE TO GO OUT
AND LIVE LIFE AND GO EXPERIENCE
LIFE QUESTIONS WHY YOU LIKE
THINGS, WHY YOU DON'T LIKE
THINGS AND WRITE ABOUT IT.
WRITE ABOUT YOUR HEART.

I HAVE A MENTOR THAT SAID
SOMETHING TO ME.
SHE SAYS WRITE FOR YOURSELF AND
EDIT FOR OTHERS.

ALWAYS WRITE FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU
DESERVE TO BE SOMEONE THAT
EXPRESSES YOURSELF IN THE BEST
POSSIBLE WAY.

Monica says, ALWAYS WRITE FOR
YOURSELF AND EDIT FOR OTHERS.
THAT IS AMAZING ADVICE.

YOU ARE AN AMAZING INDIVIDUAL.
I FEEL SO GRATEFUL TO HAVE HAD
YOU HERE IN THE TREE FORT.
PLEASE COME BACK.

[Laughter]

Randell says, I’D LOVE TO COME BACK.
THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

Matt says, THANKS SO MUCH, RANDELL.
AWESOME TO MEET YOU.
HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON.

Matt and Monica smile and wave.

Randell says, LIKEWISE.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. BE WELL.

[Applause]

Matt says, RANDELL IS SO COOL.
SPEAKING OF COOL WE HAVE AN ODD
SQUAD MARATHON COMING UP.
CHECK THIS OUT.

[Serene music plays]

A buck turns his head. Two owls perch in a tree. A sheep chews quickly. A crowd runs on a street.

An announcer says, A MARATHON IS COMING.

Ms. O asks, CAN YOU FIND SOMEONE TO RUN IT?

Oscar says, I CAN RUN THIS.

An announcer says, JOIN US FOR THE ODD SQUAD
MARATHON OCTOBER ELEVENTH FROM ELEVEN-THIRTY
A.M. TO FOUR-THIRTY P.M.

Text reads “October eleventh from eleven-thirty a.m. to four-thirty p.m.“

The announcer asks, WHICH AGENTS
DO YOU WANT TO BING WATCH?

An agent says, IT WILL PROBABLY BE
THE SMARTEST DECISION OF MY LIFE.

Text reads “TVOkids.com”

The announcer says, YOU GET TO CHOOSE WHAT WE
PLAY. GO TO TVOKIDS.COM. OTTO AND OLIVE,
OTIS AND OLYMPIA, THE MOBILE
UNIT AGENT.

MAKE YOUR CHOICE ON
TVOKIDS.COM AND JOIN US
OCTOBER ELEVENTH STARTING AT
ELEVEN-THIRTY A.M..

A man in a green lounge jacket asks, ARE WE
ABOUT TO DO MORE RUNNING?

[Deep breath]

Matt says, I CAN FEEL IT.
I CAN FEEL IT.
I AM SO INSPIRED BY ALL THE
POETS WE HAD ON TODAY.
I HAVE A POEM. ARE YOU READY?

Monica says, I AM READY.

[Upbeat music plays]

Matt says, TOMATOES ARE RED.
CAKE IS SO SWEET.
WHEN I GO TO GYM CLASS
I HAVE STINKY FEET.

[Crickets chirp]

Matt says, RIGHT?
IT'S KIND OF A GOOD-- IT'S NOT
PATHETIC? YOU DON'T LIKE IT?

Monica laughs.

Monica says I THINK WE NEED TO
BRING MEGHAN BACK FOR THIS.
WE'RE INTO DEEP NEED OF HELP.

Matt says, NOT BAD.

Monica says, LET'S BRING MEGHAN UP.
MEGHAN, ARE YOU THERE?

[Applause]

Meghan appears in the sky.

Matt asks, MEGHAN, DID YOU HEAR
MY POEM?

Meghan says, YES, I DID.

Matt asks, WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT?

Meghan says, IT WAS OKAY.

Monica laughs.

[Laughter]

Matt says, IT WAS OKAY.
THAT'S FINE.
I AM WORKING ON IT.
WHAT TIPS DO YOU HAVE FOR KID POETS?

Meghan says, UM WELL--

Matt says, OR EVEN FOR ME?
LET ME ASK YOU, DO YOU HAVE A
FAVOURITE POET?

Meghan says, I DON'T REALLY.

Monica says, YOU DON'T REALLY?
YOU KNOW WHY BECAUSE YOU ARE OUR
FAVOURITE POET AND I AM
REQUESTING VERY NICELY COULD YOU
PLEASE READ ONE OF YOUR POEMS
FOR US?

Meghan says, SURE.

Monica says, COOL.

Meghan reads, ALL THE THINGS TO LEARN ON
TVO, DANIEL, LUCAS, LAURA ARE
SOME OF THE HOSTS ON THE SHOW.
AND THEY ALWAYS SHARE EVERYTHING
THAT THEY KNOW.

THE SHOW TALKS ABOUT SO MANY
DIFFERENT TOPICS, EVEN OUR PLANET
FROM THE STARS TO THE TROPICS.

I MUST ADMIT DO I NOT ENJOY MATH
BUT I DO LOVE SOCIAL STUDIES, LANGUAGE AND CRAFTS.

THE SHOW EVEN COVERS IMPORTANT ISSUES
LIKE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY AND
MAKES ME SAD TO LEARN ABOUT THE
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS AND I PRAY
FOR THOSE CHILDREN EVERY DAY.

THIS IS MY SECOND TIME READING A
POEM ON TV.
WHO KNOWS, MAYBE ONE DAY THE NEW
HOST OF TVOKIDS WILL BE ME.

KEEP WATCHING TVOKIDS SHOWS
AND YOU WILL LEARN EVERYTHING
YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Matt says, MEGHAN, THAT ROCKED!

Matt and Monica snap their fingers.

[Snapping fingers]

Matt says, I AM SNAPPING FOR YOU BECAUSE
THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE DO AT POETRY
SHOWS, I AM PRETTY SURE.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HANGING
OUT WITH US.

THAT WAS AN AWESOME, AWESOME
POEM. WE WILL SEE YOU SOON, OKAY.

Meghan says, OKAY.

Matt says, BYE, MEGHAN.

Matt and Monica wave.

[Applause]

Monica says, I LOVED THAT.
I LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT OUR OWN
SHOW. I REALLY HOPE MEGHAN BECOMES A
TVOKIDS HOST.
JUST PUTTING THAT OUT THERE.

YOU KNOW WHO ELSE IS GIVING KNOWLEDGE
TO TVOKIDS?

Matt asks, WHO’S THAT?

Monica says, LAYLA WITH THE I CAN VIDEO.

Matt says, ALL RIGHT.

Text on a flag reads “TVOkids.”

An announcer says, I CAN.

[Bird tweets, upbeat music plays]

A girl wears her blonde hair in pigtails. She wears red glasses and
a black and white striped shirt.

Layla says, HI. MY NAME IS LAYLA.
I AM SIX-YEARS OLD.

The announcer asks, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO?

Text reads “What do you like to do?”

[Scratching]

Layla colours in a colouring book.

Layla says, I LIKE COLOURING.
I LIKE TO DRESS UP AS A PRINCESS
AND PLAY LEGO.

Text reads “Colouring. Dress up. Writing.”

Layla says, I LIKE WRITING THE LETTER "A."

Layla writes a large letter “A.”

The announcer asks, WAS IT HARD TO LEARN
HOW TO WRITE?

Text reads “Was it hard to learn how to write?”

[Upbeat music plays]

Layla says, SOMETIMES I JUST LIKE
COULDN'T GET THE WORDS RIGHT AND
I DIDN'T LIKE WRITING AS I COULD.

Text reads “Get the words right.”

The announcer asks, SO WHAT DID YOU DO?

Text reads “So what did you do?”

A woman watches Layla print letters. Layla stands beside a poster on a wall.

Layla says, OKAY.
MY MOM HELPED ME TO TRACE THE
LETTER. THIS IS MY CURIOUS GEORGE ABC
CHART. I USE IT TO HELP ME WRITE MY
LETTERS. I WILL JUST GO AND LOOK AT MY
ABC CHART AND CHOOSE WHICH
LETTER IT IS.

Text reads “Which letter it is.”

The announcer asks, HOW DID LEARNING TO WRITE
MAKE YOU FEEL?

Text reads “How did learning to write make you feel?”

Layla says, BEST PART WAS HOW PROUD I
FEEL WHEN I WRITE SOMETHING AND
I WRITE IT THE PROPER WAY.
IT IS LIKE A BEAUTIFUL LINE OF
LIKE LETTERS.
I CAN AND YOU CAN, TOO.

Monica smiles as she holds an accoustic guitar. Matt stands beside her.

Matt says, TVOKIDS, WE GOT IT
WE HAVE KNOWN THE WHOLE POEM
THIS WHOLE TIME, THE GOOD-BYE SONG.
TWO, THREE, FOUR.

Monica strums her guitar.

Matt sings, SEE YOU LATER
HOPE TOMORROW WILL BE EVEN BE GREATER
RIGHT NOW IT'S TIME TO SAY
GOOD-BYE TO YOU

Matt says, IT'S BEEN AN AWESOME POETRY DAY.

Matt sings, SO LONG, SAYONARA
CLUE, SOMETHING THAT GOES SLOW.
NOW IT'S TIME TO SAY GOOD-BYE
TO YOU

[Laugh]

TVOKIDS, MAKE SURE YOU GO TO
TVOKIDS.COM AND FILL OUT THE
PUSH TWO BUTTONS POLL.

Text reads “TVOkids.com”

Matt says, IF WE GET TEN THOUSAND VOTES
YOU GET TO TELL US WHAT WE'LL DO
TO CELEBRATE WHEN WE HIT THAT MARK.

Monica says, PUSH TWO BUTTONS
WE'LL DO SILLY THINGS FOR YOU
ANYTHING YOU WANT JUST WRITE
IT IN THERE. TEN THOUSAND C'MON.

Matt says, WE GOT TO DO IT.

[Upbeat music plays]

Text reads “That TVO Kids Show.”
