As an upbeat song plays, Laura, Monica and Matt run across a field.

Laura has long dark hair tied in pigtails. She wears a blue shirt, jeans and sneakers. Monica has long dark hair. She wears a sweater, jeans and sneakers. Matt has shoulder length, dark curly hair. He wears a tie-dye shirt, blue hoodie, jeans and sneakers. They’re all in their twenties.

(Upbeat music plays)

Multiple people sing: PACK UP YOUR BAGS
KISS YOUR TURTLE GOOD-BYE
COME UP AND CLIMB
WHERE WE CAN TOUCH THE SKY
SO MUCH TO SEE
SO MUCH TO DO
IN OUR TREE FORT
WE'VE GOT A SHOW FOR YOU

Laura, Monica and Matt run on a trail.

People quickly sing, THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW

Mayor Laurel pops up from a bush after the three friends run past.

Laura says, PASSWORD, PLEASE.

In a blue sky, text reads, Skull.

(Slide whistle)

People sing, LA LA LA LA
DO DO DO DO

Laura grabs a rope ladder hanging from a tree. Monica and Matt sit in the tree.

People sing, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW

An animated map unfolds, showing a path from houses to the tree fort.

In the tree fort, Laura wears her hair tied back. She wears a fuzzy purple sweater with a poppy. Laura holds a white balloon that has a decorative skull drawn on it on a plastic stick. The tree fort is decorated with other decorative skulls and skeletons.

Laura says, HELLO, TVOKIDS, AND HAPPY
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, OR DAY OF
THE DEAD.
THAT'S RIGHT.
WE ARE LEARNING ALL ABOUT DAY OF
THE DEAD TODAY WHICH IS A
MEXICAN HOLIDAY WHERE PEOPLE
ACTUALLY REMEMBER THE DECEASED
AND CELEBRATE THEIR LIVES HERE
ON EARTH.
NOW THAT MIGHT SOUND A BIT SAD BUT
IT'S ACTUALLY ALL ABOUT A
CELEBRATION OF LIFE.
CHECK IT OUT.
ALL OVER MEXICO THERE ARE HUGE
PARADES WHERE PEOPLE DRESS UP IN
COLOURFUL BRIGHT COSTUMES.

A picture is displayed of people dressed in colourful clothes. Some people’s faces are painted, others wear masks and many of the women and girls in the picture wear flower crowns. Some also carry flowers.

Laura says, IT'S ALL ABOUT HONOURING YOUR
ANCESTORS BUT ALSO USING TODAY
AS A REMINDER THAT DEATH IS
ACTUALLY JUST A PART OF LIFE.
YOU DON'T NEED TO BE AFRAID OF
IT.
SO TVOKIDS, TO LEARN A LITTLE
BIT MORE ABOUT DAY OF THE DEAD
LET'S CHECK OUT THIS CLIP FROM
MYSTERY FILES.

Laura smiles. In a video, a young boy walks with a man who’s face is painted like a decorative skull.

The boy says, YOU KNOW, HERMIONE
LEFT ME ALL THIS MAKEUP AS A CLUE.
DO YOU THINK YOU COULD SHOW ME HOW
TO DO A COOL MASK LIKE YOURS?

The man says, YEAH, FOR SURE.

The boy says, YES!

The man asks, WHAT DO YOU HAVE?

The boy holds a tube and a small paintbrush. The man takes the tube.

The man says, LET'S START WITH THIS, WHITE.

The boy says, OKAY.

(Instrumental Mariachi music plays)

The man paints the boy’s face white. He paints around the boys eyes red in a way that looks like a flower. The man adds black in the centre and over the boys eyelid. He paints the boys nose black.

The boy asks, SO WHAT EXACTLY IS THE DAY OF
THE DEAD AND WHY ISN'T IT SCARY?

The man says, WELL, IT'S A REALLY OLD
TRADITION.
IT GOES BACK TO BEFORE THE
AZTECS, SO ABOUT 4,000 YEARS AGO IN
MEXICO.
THEY BELIEVE THAT
ONCE A YEAR PEOPLE WHO DIED ARE
ALLOWED TO COME BACK AND ENJOY
TIME WITH US SO THEY COME HERE
AND EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY.

On a website, different pictures of decorated cemetery’s and a picture of a celebration for day of the dead is displayed of people in a street. Text reads, posted by E.B., with a picture of the boy.

E.B. says, KINDA LIKE A PARTY.

The man sys, YEAH, IT'S VERY MUCH A PARTY.
IT'S A CELEBRATION.

E.B. says, YOU KNOW, THIS IS SOUNDING REALLY
FAMILIAR.

Decorative details are added to the E.B.’s face paint. His mouth looks more skull’s mouth and colours are added around back lines painted on his face.

The man says, IN MEXICO PEOPLE STILL
CELEBRATE THE DAY OF THE DEAD.
WE GO TO THE CEMETERY AND WE
BRING A MEAL AND WE EAT IT
ON TOP OF THE GRAVE OF
OUR LOVED ONES.

On the website, different gravesites are decorated.

The man says, EVERYBODY IN THE FAMILY COMES
AND WE REMEMBER EVERYTHING WE
LOVED ABOUT THEM.

E.B. says, A PICNIC IN THE CEMETERY.

The man says, YEAH!
BUT IT'S FUN.
WE BRING A FEAST AND WE LEAVE IT
THERE FOR THEM AND WE DECORATE
THEIR GRAVE WITH MARIGOLD
FLOWERS.
IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

In the tree fort, Laura nods. She holds a marker and a balloon with part of a skull drawn on.

She says, OKAY, THIS IS SOUNDING
REALLY AWESOME.

Laura says, MM-HMM.

BATTERY-OPERATED TEA LIGHT TO
PUT UNDER IT AND YOU’VE GOT
YOUR OWN LITTLE LIGHT WHICH IS
REALLY COOL.

Matt says, I LOVE SUGAR SKULLS.
I’M GONNA DRAW ONE RIGHT NOW.

Laura says, YEAH,
I’M GONNA KEEP WORKING ON MY
BALLOON.

Matt starts drawing on one of the small cups with a marker.

He says, I’VE GOT, I’M GONNA DO A LITTLE MOUTH.
SOME LITTLE CIRCLES THERE.

Laura says, AND TVOKIDS, I LOVE THAT IT'S GOT
ALL THE BRIGHT COLOURS BECAUSE…

(Ding)

A smiling smart phone icon rings. Text reads, incoming call.

The phone sings, SOMEONE IS CALLING…

(Cool music plays)

The phone sings, PICK IT UP,

Laura taps the smart phone icon and it disappears.

She says, HELLO,

A person says, HI, GUYS.
IT'S JUANES.

Together, Matt and Laura say, JUANES!

Laura says, YOU’RE GOING UP IN THE SKY.

Juanes appears in the sky. He has short brown hair and wears a yellow shirt.

AND HEY, I WAS WONDERING WHAT'S
YOUR FAVOURITE PART, WHAT'S YOUR
FAVOURITE TRADITION OF DAY OF

Juanes says, MY FAVOURITE TRADITION WOULD
BE THE ALTARS AND HOW THEY SET
IT UP BECAUSE IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL
TO SEE ALL THESE THINGS THAT YOU
KNOW THAT PEOPLE, PEOPLE'S
ANCESTORS HAVE YOU KNOW WHAT
THEY LIKED.

Laura says, YEAH.

Juanes says, AND I THINK IT'S
SOMETHING REALLY COOL TO DO.

Laura says, ABSOLUTELY.

HONOURING TODAY?

Juanes says, UM, YEAH, MY GREAT
GRANDFATHER.
HE, WE CALLED HIM LIKE, UH,
GRANDPA STUFFED BEAR,
KIND OF.

Matt and Laura laugh.

Juanes says, HE WAS LIKE A LITTLE
STUFFY FOR US.
BECAUSE WHEN YOU HUGGED HIM,
IT FELT LIKE YOU WERE HUGGING
A PILLOW OR A STUFFY.

Matt says, AWW.

Juanes says, AND, YEAH.

Laura says, THAT IS SO FUN, JUANES.
