A Female Announcer says WELCOME TO
TVO KIDS
POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.
A caption reads "Primary I-3 Teacher Robert." Robert is in his late thirties, clean-shaven with brown hair. He wears black-rimmed glasses, earrings and a blue shirt.
In a living room with a sofa and a guitar in the background, Robert says HELLO, BOYS AND GIRLS,
AND WELCOME BACK
TO ANOTHER EXCITING EPISODE
OF
TVO KIDS
POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.
MY NAME IS ROBERT
AND I'M SUPER EXCITED
TO BE HERE WITH YOU TODAY.
I HOPE YOU'RE ALL DOING WELL,
STAYING SAFE, AND DOING
YOUR BEST HAVING FUN AT HOME.
I WANTED TO GET
RIGHT INTO IT TODAY
BECAUSE TODAY WE'RE GOING TO
BE TALKING ABOUT SOME STORIES.
TALKING ABOUT STORIES,
AND ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS
THAT WE ENCOUNTER
STORIES IN OUR LIVES,
AND, HOW MUCH FUN WE HAVE
WHEN WE'RE
MAKING UP SOME STORIES,
AND WRITING OUT SOME STORIES,
AND READING
THROUGH SOME STORIES,
AND SOME WAYS THAT WE,
PERHAPS, DIDN'T THINK ABOUT
WHERE STORIES COME FROM.
HOW MANY OF YOU
LOVE TO LISTEN TO STORIES?
I KNOW THAT I DO.
I LOVE TO LISTEN TO STORIES.
AND WHERE DO YOU THINK THE IDEAS
OF SOME STORIES COME FROM?
THAT'S RIGHT.
THEY COME FROM IMAGINATION.
IMAGINATION
AND CREATIVITY, OKAY?
AND, BOYS AND GIRLS,
I'M SURE THAT YOU ALL HAVE
A WONDERFUL IMAGINATION
AND YOU'RE SUPER CREATIVE, OKAY?
AND IT TAKES THOSE THINGS
TO BE A GREAT STORYTELLER.
GREAT STORYTELLERS
TURN INTO GREAT MUSICIANS.
THEY TURN INTO GREAT WRITERS.
AND THEY END UP
BEING GREAT READERS.
ALL KINDS OF GREAT THINGS
HAPPEN FROM STORYTELLING.
AND SO, UM, WITHOUT
IMAGINATION AND CREATIVITY...
SOMETIMES IT'S FOR SCHOOL
WE USE OUR STORYTELLING POWERS.
WELL, I LIKE
TO CALL THEM POWERS.
STORYTELLING POWERS
FOR PROJECTS AT SCHOOL.
OTHER TIMES IT'S JUST
FOR RETELLING THINGS
THAT ACTUALLY
HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE.
THAT'S RIGHT.
THERE ARE STORIES THAT WE MAKE
UP WITH OUR IMAGINATIONS,
AND THEN THERE ARE STORIES
THAT ARE ACTUALLY TRUE.
LIKE, FOR EXAMPLE, OUR HISTORY,
WHEN WE SPEAK ABOUT HISTORY.
SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE LIKE,
"HISTORY!
SOMETIMES THAT CAN BE BORING."
WELL, I FIND HISTORY
TO BE SUPER EXCITING,
BECAUSE HISTORY IS SOMETHING
THAT'S HAPPENED BEFORE
THAT SOMEBODY IS RETELLING,
EITHER THROUGH A BOOK,
OR, THEY'RE RETELLING US
THROUGH WORD,
THROUGH STORYTELLING, OKAY?
NOW, HOW MANY OF YOU
LIKE BEDTIME STORIES?
I LIKE A GOOD BEDTIME STORY TOO.
AND, I HAVE FOUR
YOUNG CHILDREN AT HOME.
THAT'S RIGHT.
I HAVE FOUR
YOUNG CHILDREN AT HOME.
AND, NOT A ONE OF THEM
LIKES TO FALL ASLEEP
WITHOUT A BEDTIME STORY.
SO, I LIKE TO READ TO THEM
A LOT OF BEDTIME STORIES,
AND THEY REALLY ENJOY IT.
BUT THE ONE THING
THAT THEY ENJOY THE MOST
IS WHEN I MAKE UP
A BEDTIME STORY FOR THEM.
AND SO, I HAVE
TO USE MY CREATIVE POWERS
AND MY IMAGINATION
TO COME UP WITH BEDTIME STORIES
ALMOST EVERY NIGHT
FOR THEM TO FALL ASLEEP.
AND SO, I HAVE TO DIG
DEEP DOWN INTO MY IMAGINATION
AND TO MY CREATIVE POWERS
TO DO THAT.
AND, FINALLY THEY FALL ASLEEP
AFTERWARDS, OKAY?
SO, IT'S NOT
REALLY HARD FOR ME TO DO.
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE,
"ISN'T THAT REALLY HARD TO DO
EVERY NIGHT OR EVERY OTHER NIGHT
TO FIND A WAY
TO CREATE A STORY?"
AND I LIKE TO TELL PEOPLE,
"NO, IT'S NOT REALLY HARD TO DO,
BECAUSE THE MORE I PRACTISE IT,
THE BETTER I GET AT IT."
AND SO, BOYS AND GIRLS,
IF YOU EVER THINK ABOUT MAYBE
WANTING TO BE A STORYTELLER,
OR A WRITER ONE DAY,
ALL IT TAKES IS SOME PRACTICE.
AND THAT'S WHAT I GET
TO DO BECAUSE OF MY CHILDREN.
I GET TO SIT DOWN EVERY NIGHT
AND TELL THEM STORIES
FROM THE TOP OF MY HEAD
AND MAKE UP
SOME SILLY, SILLY STORIES
FOR THEM TO ENJOY
SO THAT THEY CAN FALL ASLEEP.
ALTHOUGH,
MAYBE THEY'RE FALLING ASLEEP
BECAUSE THEY'RE
BORED OF MY STORIES.
HM, I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT.
I'M JUST JOKING.
I THINK THEY'RE ENJOYING IT.
SO, STORIES ARE
A GREAT WAY TO BE CREATIVE.
THEY'RE A GREAT WAY
TO COMMUNICATE IDEAS.
THEY'RE A GREAT WAY
TO PRACTISE OUR WRITING.
SO, IF WE'RE ALREADY WRITING,
BOYS AND GIRLS,
IT'S A GOOD WAY
TO PRACTISE OUR WRITING.
AND OF COURSE, IT'S A GOOD WAY
TO PRACTISE OUR READING.
OKAY, THEN WE GET TO READ
SOME WONDERFUL STORIES
THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE WRITTEN.
IT'S A REALLY GREAT WAY.
AND STORIES, AS I SAID BEFORE,
CAN BE FOUND
IN ALL KINDS OF PLACES, OKAY?
BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT
STORIES CAN ALSO BE FOUND
IN MUSIC AND IN ART?
THAT'S RIGHT, BOYS AND GIRLS.
IN MUSIC AND IN ART.
MUSIC HAS A STORY BUILT INTO IT
WHEN WE HEAR THE WORDS.
OKAY, THE WORDS IN MUSIC,
OR THE LYRICS,
SOMETIMES TELL A STORY.
AND ART, WELL,
SOMETIMES PEOPLE
FEEL INSPIRED THROUGH WORDS
AND CREATE ARTWORK.
AND TODAY, BOYS AND GIRLS,
YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO DO
SOMETHING LIKE THAT TODAY.
YOU'RE GOING
TO FEEL INSPIRED A LITTLE BIT
BY LISTENING TO A SILLY,
LITTLE STORY THAT I MAKE UP.
AND, FEEL INSPIRED
TO DO SOME ARTWORK YOURSELVES.
SO, BEFORE WE GET ANY FURTHER,
AT SOME POINT
DURING THIS EPISODE,
I WANT YOU TO GO
AND GRAB SOMETHING
THAT YOU CAN WRITE WITH
AND SOMETHING
YOU CAN WRITE ON, OKAY?
SO, LIKE, A PENCIL,
A COLOURED PENCIL, A PEN,
MAYBE YOUR FAVOURITE NOTEBOOK,
OR SOME PAPER LYING AROUND
THAT YOU CAN USE.
EVEN GO INTO THE RECYCLE BIN.
IF YOU WANT, SOME CARDBOARD,
ANYTHING AT ALL.
AND YOU'RE GONNA BE USING THAT
TO FEEL INSPIRED TO DRAW SOME
ARTWORK FOR ME TODAY, OKAY?
WELL, SPEAKING OF WRITING,
AND SPEAKING OF STORIES,
I WANTED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS
EPISODE CALLED STORY WRITING DAY
TO SEE HOW THESE FRIENDS COME UP
WITH IDEAS FOR THEIR STORY.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT.
Lucas is in his twenties, with short puffy brown hair and wears jeans and an orange T-shirt.
Laura is in her twenties, with above the shoulders straight brown hair with bangs and wears jeans and a purple T-shirt.
As a song plays, Lucas and Laura walk in the woods, cross a bridge, balance on a fallen tree trunk, cross a stream, run across the city and in a park full of geese. Fast clips show them next to Greg playing and having fun in the tree fort. Greg is in his twenties, with short black hair. He wears a blue sweater.
The song says PACK UP YOUR BAGS
KISS YOUR TURTLE GOODBYE
COME UP AND CLIMB
WHERE WE CAN TOUCH THE SKY
SO MUCH TO SEE
SO MUCH TO DO
IN OUR TREE FORT
WE GOT A SHOW FOR
THAT TVOKIDS, THAT TVOKIDS
THAT TVOKIDS
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
Laura says PASSWORD PLEASE.
Lucas whispers something in Laura's ear as a caption reads "Plot."
In animation, a dialogue bubbles pop out of a map with a caption "That TVO Kids Show."
The song continues LA, LA, LA, DO, DO, DO,
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW!
Lucas and Laura stand next to a map with pictures of different characters.
Lucas and Laura say HMMMMMM.
SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT.
Laura says WE STILL DON'T KNOW THE IDENTITY
OF THE MYSTERY HOST!
Lucas says THAT'S RIGHT, BUT WE HAVE
A LOT OF SUSPECTS.
PEOPLE THAT MAYBE
COULD BE THE MYSTERY HOST.
Laura says YEAH, IT COULD BE
ANYBODY IN THE FOREST.
I MEAN, WHAT ABOUT UNSURELY?
Lucas says COULD BE UNSURELY, BUT
DO YOU THINK THAT SHE KNOWS?
Laura says SHE WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW.
Lucas says SHE'S A BIT CONFUSED.
WHAT ABOUT BIG DAN?
Laura says HE'S TOO BIG!
HE'S TOO TALL!
Lucas says WON'T FIT IN THAT CLOAK.
Laura says WELL, IT COULD BE OUR NEWS
ANCHORS, LANDON AND BRUSCHETTA.
Lucas says I THINK IT IS.
Laura says REALLY?
Lucas says THEY WERE HERE
THE DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN.
Kids say MAYBE WE CAN HELP!
Lucas and Laura say WHO SAID THAT?
Zoey and Lukas run into the studio.
Zoey is in her early teens, with long wavy brown hair and wears a mustard shirt under a dark overall. Lukas is around 11, with short straight brown hair and wears a gray and mustard shirt.
Zoey and Lukas say HEY!
Lucas says WHAT'S UP?
Laura says ZOEY AND LUKAS, HI, GUYS!
Lucas says OH, WE'RE SO STAR STRUCK!
IT'S LUKAS AND ZOEY
FROM
THE WACKY WORD SHOW.
Laura says TOTALLY.
YOU GUYS THINK YOU CAN HELP US?
They say YEAH.
Laura says WELL, I MEAN...
Zoey says OKAY, SO, WHEN WE WRITE A STORY,
WE START WITH A PROTAGONIST,
A HERO.
Hosts say OKAY.
Lukas says THEN WE FIGURE OUT
WHAT THE HERO WANTS,
AND WHAT THEY NEED TO DO,
AND GET THAT IN THE MOVIE.
Hosts say HM, OKAY.
Zoey says YEAH, SO, LIKE AN EXAMPLE.
WHY WOULD A YOUNG GIRL
WITH A PICNIC BASKET
WALK INTO
A DEEP DARK WOOD ALL ALONE?
Laura says HM, I ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW.
WELL, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE
SOMETHING PRETTY IMPORTANT
FOR HER TO DO THAT.
Lucas says YEAH,
I'M A LITTLE SCARED OF THE DARK,
SO I WOULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT
GOOD REASON, MOTIVE.
Zoey says IMPORTANT LIKE, WANTING TO HELP
HER POOR, SICK GRANDMOTHER?
Lucas says LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD DID THAT!
Laura says OF COURSE,
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD!
Hosts say OKAY.
Lukas says SEE?
YOU FIGURED IT OUT
BY WORKING BACKWARD.
Hosts say OH!
Laura says OKAY.
Zoey says SO, WHAT DID
THE MYSTERY HOST DO?
Lucas says WELL, THEY HELPED US.
Laura says A LOT, YES.
Lucas says REMEMBER WHEN LUCIUS
TRASHED THE FORT?
Laura says YES, TOTALLY!
They chuckle.
Lucas says AND THE MYSTERY HOST CLEANED IT.
Laura says THE MYSTERY HOST ALSO GOT
OUR CANDY BACK FOR US AS WELL.
Lucas says OH, YEAH, YEAH.
Laura says MM-HM.
Lukas says WELL, WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?
WHAT'S THEIR MOTIVE?
Lucas says YOU'RE RIGHT.
Zoey says SO, IF YOU FIGURE THAT OUT,
YOU'LL PROBABLY FIGURE OUT
THEIR SECRET IDENTITY.
Lucas says OKAY, THAT ACTUALLY HELPS A LOT.
Laura says HM, OKAY, THANK YOU.
YES, WE COULD TOTALLY USE THAT!
Lucas says YEAH, WE'RE GONNA FIGURE OUT
THE MYSTERY HOST'S MOTIVE.
Laura says THIS IS AMAZING.
Lucas says GOT IT.
Laura says WILL YOU GUYS STICK AROUND
AND HANG OUT WITH US
FOR THE REST OF THE DAY?
Kids say YES.
Lucas says YEAH, WE HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS
ABOUT
THE WACKY WORD SHOW,
WHICH, YOU GUYS, TVO KIDS,
IF YOU DON'T WATCH ALREADY,
YOU CAN WATCH
ON MONDAYS AT 6:00PM.
Laura says AND SATURDAYS AT 1:00PM AS WELL.
Lucas says TOTALLY.
Laura says YES.
Lucas says WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU
A
CUTE TIME OOT
VIDEO.
YOU TWO GET TO RATE IT, OKAY?
Zoey says OKAY.
Lucas says AND BE HONEST.
HERE IT COMES.
A series of pets appear with the title "Cute time oot."
A woman reads a book with a kitten on her lap.
Lucas says THIS IS A CAT, A KITTEN.
Laura says OKAY, CHECK OUT, THIS IS A CAT,
IN FACT, A KITTEN.
Zoey says THAT IS A VERY CUTE KITTEN.
Laura says A KITTEN ON A BOOK!
Lucas says A SCHOLARLY KITTEN!
Laura says BOOKS HAVE WORDS!
BOOKS HAVE WACKY WORDS.
Lucas says HE'S READING A BOOK.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS.
Zoey says OKAY, SO, IT'S VERY CUTE.
I LIKE THAT
IT'S TRYING TO LEARN.
I LIKE THAT.
Lucas says YEAH, IT'S TRYING
TO READ A BOOK.
Zoey says OKAY, YEAH, ALL RIGHT, OKAY, I'M
GOING TO RATE IT...
Lucas says OKAY.
DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH ..
Zoey says A 20 OUT OF 10.
Hosts say 20 OUT OF 10!
Laura says HUGE SCORE.
Lucas says THAT'S 200 PERCENT, OKAY.
Lukas says YEAH, THAT WAS
PRETTY CLOSE TO MY ANSWER.
MINE WAS 23 OUT OF 10.
Zoey says HE BEAT ME THERE.
Lucas says SPECIFIC, LUKAS, OKAY.
Laura says YOU GUYS LOVE THIS KITTEN.
Lucas says YEAH, THIS KITTEN
IS REALLY COOL.
Zoey says IT'S A REALLY CUTE KITTEN.
Lucas says HEY, I'D RATE IT HIGH TOO.
I'D GIVE IT A 10 OUT OF 10.
Laura says I GIVE IT A 100 OUT OF ONE!
Zoey says OH!
Lucas says THAT'S EVEN BETTER.
Zoey says THAT'S REALLY BIG.
Lucas says IT'S LIKE A THOUSAND PERCENT.
OKAY, BUT YOU'RE HERE, SO WE
WANNA TALK ABOUT...
Lucas plays the ukelele and they all sing THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW,
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW
THE WACKY WORD SHOW,
IT'S SO WACKY
Zoey sings IT'S ME ZOEY,
Lukas says I'M LUKAS
Zoey sings WE PLAY WITH WORDS
ON THE WACKY WORD SHOW
They sing WRITING'S NUMBER ONE
YEAH, WE LOVE
BOOKS AND STORIES
MAKE THAT UP,
THAT'S WHAT WE DO
IF WE MENTION WACKY WACKY,
YEAH WE DO THAT TOO
They all sing WE'VE GOT
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW
THE WACKY WORD SHOW, SO WACKY
Lucas says OH, YOU GUYS
ARE SO GOOD, EVEN LIVE!
THAT'S PERFECT.
Laura says I LOVE THAT SONG.
SO MUCH FUN.
Lucas says YEAH.
Laura says OKAY, I WANNA KNOW,
WHAT'S THE MOST
FUN PART FOR YOU GUYS?
WHAT DO YOU LOVE
ABOUT BEING ON THE SHOW?
Zoey says WELL, I LOVE THE SKITS
'CAUSE THEY'RE SUPER FUNNY.
AND WE GET TO PUT ON ACCENTS,
AND DRESS UP, AND BE CHARACTERS,
AND IT'S SUPER FUN.
Laura says YEAH, BEING CHARACTERS
IS SO MUCH FUN!
Zoey says YEAH!
Lucas says YEAH, IT'S REALLY COOL.
Laura says THAT'S AWESOME.
Lucas says SO, FOR TVO KIDS
THAT HAVEN'T WATCHED IT,
WHAT SHOULD THEY EXPECT?
Laura says YEAH!
Zoey says LOTS AND LOTS OF WACKINESS.
Lukas says AND LOTS AND LOTS OF WORDS.
Zoey says EXACTLY.
Laura says PERFECT, I LOVE IT.
Lucas says AND YOU GUYS HAVE GAMES.
YOU HAVE KIDS ON THE SHOW.
Zoey says YEP, AND SONGS AND SKITS.
Laura says AND SONGS, YES!
Zoey says SO FUN, YEAH.
Lucas says EVERY THREE MINUTES
IS LIKE ANOTHER
CRAZY THING ON THAT SHOW.
I LOVE IT; IT'S SO GOOD.
Laura says YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING.
Zoey says YEP, THANK YOU.
Laura says OKAY, THIS IS AMAZING.
WE'VE GOT A CALLER QUESTION,
WHICH MEANS IT'S...
Hosts say IT'S TIME FOR...
A loud voice shakes the studio and says WE NEED TO KNOW!
Laura says HANG TIGHT!
Lucas says IT'S BREAKING THE FORT!
Laura says THAT'S RIGHT.
WE'VE GOT A CALLER.
WE'VE GOT LAYLA ON THE LINE.
Hosts say HEY, LAYLA.
A caption reads "Layla, age 10."
Layla says HI!
Laura says HI, DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION
FOR ZOEY AND LUKAS?
Layla says I DO.
Laura says AMAZING.
WHAT IS IT?
Layla says DO YOU LIKE ACTING
AND IS IT HARD?
Laura says DO YOU LIKE ACTING
AND IS IT HARD?
Zoey says UM, YES, I LOVE ACTING.
UM, DO YOU LIKE IT?
Lukas says IT CAN BE...
I LOVE ACTING TOO.
IT CAN BE A BIT TOUGH THOUGH
DURING SOME TIMES.
Zoey says YEAH, YEAH, IT'S HARD WORK.
DEFINITELY.
Laura says YEAH.
Zoey says AND IT'S A LOT OF FUN.
Lukas says YEAH.
Lucas says SO, THERE'S
A BIG PAYOFF FOR IT, RIGHT?
SOMETIMES THE THINGS
YOU'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT
CAN BE REALLY HARD, BUT, ALSO...
Laura says YEAH, SOMETIMES IT'S GOOD
TO HAVE A NICE CHALLENGE
EVERY SO OFTEN.
Zoey says YEAH.
AND THEN YOU'RE REWARDED AFTER.
Lukas says YEAH, AND YOU ALSO GET
TO MEET A BUNCH OF NEW PEOPLE.
YOU KNOW, GO TO DIFFERENT
PLACES, HAVE SOME FUN.
Lucas says TOTALLY, THAT'S SO COOL.
OKAY, WILL YOU GUYS STICK AROUND
AND PLAY A GAME WITH US?
Zoey says OF COURSE.
Lucas says AWESOME.
WE'RE GONNA DO THAT.
BUT, TVO KIDS, JUST REMEMBER YOU
CAN WATCH
THE WACKY WORD SHOW
ON MONDAYS AT 6:00PM.
Laura says AND SATURDAYS AT 1:00PM.
IN THE MEANTIME, CHECK OUT
THIS MYTHICAL CREATURES MASHUP.
(guitar music plays)
In off, Laura says IF YOU COULD CREATE
YOUR OWN MYTHICAL CREATURE,
WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Girl 1 says HM, LET'S SEE.
Boy 1 says I WOULD WANT IT TO BE
A HALF CHEETAH, HALF MAN.
AND I'D CALL IT CHEE-MAN.
Girl 2 says A DOG MIXED WITH,
LIKE, A FERRET OR SOMETHING.
Girl 1 says THE BODY OF, LIKE, A UNICORN,
AND THE HEAD
OF A DOG THAT COULD TALK,
WITH A MAGICAL HORN,
AND THAT COMES OUT OF A LAMP.
Girl 3 says CHEETAH AND A DOG BECAUSE...
BECAUSE CHEETAHS
ARE FAST AND DOGS ARE CUTE
AND I LIKE CUTE STUFF,
AND I LIKE FAST ANIMALS.
Boy 2 says I WOULD MIX A GIANT SPIDER
AND A GIANT EYEBALL.
SO THEN... AND IT WOULD
BE MY BODYGUARD.
SO, LIKE, IF ANYBODY
WOULD COME TRY TO ATTACK ME,
IT WOULD JUST STARE AT THEM
AND THEN THEY WOULD GO AWAY.
Girl 4 says OKAY, I'D MAKE A UNICORN
PLUS A POLAR BEAR
BECAUSE THEN
I COULD SLEEP ON IT.
Boy 3 says HALF CHEETAH, HALF EAGLE.
IT CAN RUN REALLY FAST 'CAUSE
IT HAS THE LEGS OF A CHEETAH.
IT CAN FLY 'CAUSE
IT HAS WINGS LIKE AN EAGLE.
Boy 4 says AN OSTRICH
AND A...CAT.
A slate shows the Ontario bay and reads "This is not a talk show."
Lucas says WELCOME TO
THIS IS NOT A TALK SHOW.
I'M YOUR HOST, LUCAS,
AND TODAY, TVO KIDS,
YOU'RE GONNA LOVE OUR GUEST.
OUR GUEST IS SOMEONE
WE'VE NEVER MET BEFORE.
IT'S A COMMANDER AND HERO,
ALSO ASTRONAUT.
IT'S MONKEY MAN!
MONKEY MAN!
Monkey Man walks into the studio. He wears a silver suit and a monkey mask.
Monkey Man says GOOD AFTERNOON!
Lucas says HEY!
Monkey Man says HELLO, HELLO, LUCAS,
GREAT TO SEE YOU.
Lucas says YOU ARE A MONKEY MAN.
I'M NOT GONNA SHAKE YOUR HAND.
I'M JUST GONNA
LET YOU TAKE A SEAT.
YOU'RE A LITTLE
SCARY, MONKEY MAN, BUT, UM...
THANKS FOR COMING IN.
Monkey Man says THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Lucas says SO, TELL US ABOUT
ALL OF THE GOOD THINGS
YOU'VE BEEN DOING FOR THE WORLD.
YOU'RE...
Monkey Man says YES, SO I CREATED THE BANANA.
Laurel comes in. She wears a curly blond wig, glasses, a black and purple outfit and a purple band.
Laurel says OUT OF HERE, MONKEY MAN!
THIS IS MY INTERVIEW NOW.
Monkey Man says WHY, I NEVER!
Monkey Man runs away.
Laurel says THAT'S RIGHT; HEAD BACK
TO YOUR SPACE PLANET.
GOODBYE AND THANK YOU.
MAKE ROOM FOR THE MAYOR.
Lucas says LAUREL, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?
YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED
TO COME ON
TALK SHOW.
Laurel says WHAT?
Lucas says NO, WE USUALLY
HAVE OTHER GUESTS.
WE DON'T WANT TO TALK
TO YOU ON THE TALK SHOW.
Laurel says WELL, THAT GUEST HAS BEEN BUMPED
AND NOW THIS IS ABOUT ME.
SO, GET ASKING
YOUR QUESTIONS, HA!
Lucas says OKAY, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
IS MY FIRST QUESTION.
Laurel says WELL, OF COURSE, I'M HERE
TO PROMOTE THE HEROIC CAPTURE
OF THAT AWFUL MYSTERY HOST.
Lucas says I KNOW, WE HEARD THAT YOU
CAPTURED THE MYSTERY HOST.
Laurel says THAT'S RIGHT!
THE MYSTERY HOST
HAS BEEN CAPTURED.
Lucas says UH-HUH.
Laurel says AND SENT TO FOREST JAIL!
Lucas says OKAY, SO WHAT, ACTUALLY, OUR
VIEWERS REALLY WANNA KNOW IS:
"WHO IS THE MYSTERY HOST?
WHAT IS THEIR IDENTITY?"
WERE YOU...
Laurel says TO YOU, I LAUGH!
BECAUSE, I DON'T KNOW THE
IDENTITY OF THE MYSTERY HOST.
Lucas says WELL, WHY DIDN'T YOU...
Laurel says AND I DON'T WANT TO KNOW.
AND YOU WON'T KNOW, AND I WON'T
KNOW, AND NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW.
THEY'LL GO TO FOREST JAIL
AND THAT'S THAT.
Lucas says WELL, HERE'S THE THING, LAUREL.
I DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW IF IT'S
GREAT THAT THEY GO TO JAIL.
I THINK THAT THE MYSTERY HOST
SHOULD HAVE A FAIR TRIAL.
Laurel says HM.
Lucas says WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?
Laurel says TRIAL YOU SAY?
Lucas says I SAY TRIAL.
Laurel says LIKE A COURT TRIAL?
Lucas says LIKE A COURT, YEAH.
Laurel says WITH A JUDGE?
Lucas says YES, EXACTLY.
Laurel says AH!
Lucas says AND I'LL REPRESENT
THE MYSTERY HOST, AND...
Laurel says ACTUALLY, THAT SOUNDS
QUITE DELIGHTFUL.
AND IT WOULD MAKE
LUCIUS AND I EVEN MORE FAMOUS!
Lucas says WELL, ACTUALLY, IT WAS MY IDEA.
Laurel says AND, IT WOULD BE
EVEN MORE EMBARRASSING
FOR THE MYSTERY HOST ONCE
THEY'RE PRONOUNCED GUILTY
IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY.
Lucas says I THINK THEY'LL
ACTUALLY BE INNOCENT, 'CAUSE...
Laurel says WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA.
I HAD HERE TODAY!
Lucas says IT WAS MY IDEA, LAUREL!
Laurel says THERE WILL BE A TRIAL.
AND IT'LL BE HELD
THIS TUESDAY IN TREE FORT COURT.
Lucas says WHERE ARE WE...
IN THE TREE FORT?
Laurel says IN TREE FORT COURT!
Lucas says HEY, I DIDN'T SIGN UP
FOR TREE FORT COURT.
Laurel says THIS TUESDAY, THE OFFICIAL TRIAL
OF THE MYSTERY HOST.
Lucas says OH, MAN.
WHERE'S LAURA?
Laurel says MY FACE WILL BE ALL OVER IT!
Lucas says NO, WE'RE NOT...
Laurel says I'M FAMOUS!
I'M THE MAYOR.
Lucas says LAUREL, OKAY, HERE'S...
WE GOTTA ASK YOU TO LEAVE.
I'M SO SORRY.
IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE.
Laurel says OH, NOBODY ASKS...
Lucas says A COMPLETE PLEASURE HAVING YOU.
Laurel says EXCUSE ME.
NOBODY ASKS THE MYSTERY HOST
TO DO ANYTHING, OR THE MAYOR.
Lucas laughs.
Laurel says I'M THE MAYOR
AND I DECIDE TO LEAVE MYSELF.
GOODBYE.
Lucas says WELL, LAUREL, OKAY...
Laurel says GOODBYE!
Lucas says OKAY, WELL, JUST...
Laurel says SEE YOU!
Lucas says WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT...
OKAY.
OH, BROTHER.
TVO KIDS, THAT WAS
THIS IS NOT A TALK SHOW.
MAYBE WE'LL TALK
TO THAT MONKEY ANOTHER TIME.
STICK AROUND.
A Male Announcer says IT'S TIME FOR A TVO KIDS
SUPER CITIZENS AWARD!
AND THE SUPER TERRIFIC
AND ROCKING AWARD
GOES TO SHREYA.
The caption changes to "Shreya. Book author." Shreya is around 10 years old. She has shoulder-length black hair, and wears glasses and a pink T-shirt with a white horse.
Shreya says MY NAME IS SHREYA AND I WROTE
A BOOK OF SHORT STORIES
AND I DONATED THE PROCEEDS
TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL.
The Male Announcer says SHREYA WANTED TO WRITE
A CHAPTER BOOK. BUT, WITH SO MANY IDEAS
FOR DIFFERENT STORIES, SHREYA CREATED
SHORT STORIES FOR CHILDREN.
Shreya says SOME OF THE STORIES
ARE ABOUT THINGS
THAT REALLY HAPPENED TO ME,
AND SOME OF THEM
ARE JUST IDEAS I GET.
LIKE, OUR BIRD USED
TO ALWAYS ESCAPE FROM HER CAGE.
SO, I PUT IN
DIFFERENT CHARACTERS,
AND WE MADE IT INTO A STORY,
AND CALLED IT
SNOWY ESCAPES.
USUALLY I WRITE THE STORY FIRST
AND THEN I DRAW A PICTURE
TO GO ALONG WITH IT.
The Male Announcer says SHREYA DONATED
ALL THE MONEY FROM
HER BOOK TO THE SICK KIDS FOUNDATION.
Shreya says WHEN I WAS WRITING MY STORIES,
I WAS HAVING A LOT OF FUN
AND I THOUGHT THAT
THE KIDS IN THE HOSPITAL
WEREN'T HAVING AS MUCH FUN.
BUT THEN, I REALIZED
THAT IF I DONATED
THE MONEY TO THE HOSPITAL,
THEY CAN GET OUT A WHOLE LOT
FASTER TO DO THE THINGS
THAT I ENJOY DOING ALSO.
The Male Announcer says SHREYA'S BOOK
CAN BE FOUND IN SOME LIBRARIES,
SICK KIDS PLAYROOM AND SOLD ONLINE.
A picture shows Shreya holding a large check.
Shreya says I RAISED 500 DOLLARS
FOR SICK KIDS HOSPITAL.
I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE
REALLY EASY TO WRITE A BOOK,
BUT, I LEARNED THAT
YOU HAVE TO WORK REALLY HARD
AND BE PASSIONATE
AND NEVER GIVE UP.
SOMETIMES
I GOT REALLY FRUSTRATED
BECAUSE I WAS
RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS.
BUT I KEPT ON GOING.
WHEN YOU WRITE A STORY
AND SOMEONE READS IT,
IT PUTS A SMILE ON THEIR FACE,
AND YOU FEEL GOOD
TO KNOW THAT YOU DID THAT.
IT'S IMPORTANT
TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY
BECAUSE IT FEELS REALLY GOOD
TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Shreya smiles and shows a star award.
The Announcer says CONGRATULATIONS!
YOU ARE A TRUE SUPER CITIZEN!
Back in the studio, Lucas says OH, WE'RE WATCHING.
Laura says GAME TIME!
Lucas says OKAY, OKAY.
Laura says THAT'S RIGHT!
Lucas says BRING IT ON.
Laura says US AGAINST YOU!
Lucas says YEAH, WE MADE THIS GAME
UP FOR YOU GUYS.
IT'S CALLED FICTIONARY.
Laura says THAT'S TRUE.
THE NAME OF THE GAME
IS FICTIONARY.
THE WAY IT WORKS?
WE WILL READ A WORD
AND TWO DEFINITIONS.
ONE IS TRUE.
ONE IS NOT.
Lucas says ARE YOU READY?
Zoey says YES, WE'RE READY.
Lucas says OKAY.
ALL RIGHT.
THE BRAINS ARE READY.
FIRST QUESTION.
He reads OKAY, "CACOPHONY" IS THE WORD.
IS THIS A MIXTURE
OF HORRIBLE SOUNDS,
OR A BROKEN MUSICAL INSTRUMENT?
DISCUSS.
Zoey says IT SOUNDS LIKE A MIXTURE
OF HORRIBLE SOUNDS.
Lukas says YEAH, IT SOUNDS
LIKE A HORRIBLE SOUND.
Zoey says IT'S...LET'S SAY A MIXTURE
OF HORRIBLE SOUNDS.
Lucas says THEY'RE IN AGREEMENT, ALL RIGHT.
Laura says FINAL ANSWER.
Lucas says ALL RIGHT, HORRIBLE SOUNDS.
YOU'RE RIGHT.
YOU'RE RIGHT, YEP.
Kids say YES!
Laura says OKAY, WE'RE DOWN ONE.
WE'RE DOWN ONE.
Lucas says WE'RE GONNA BRING IT, OKAY.
Zoey says OKAY, OKAY, READY?
Laura says LET'S GO.
Zoey says ALL RIGHT, "HALIBALO."
Laura says HALI-WHAT?
Zoey reads IS IT A REALLY BIG SHIP, OR,
LOUD NOISES AND SHOUTING THAT
PEOPLE MAKE WHEN THEY ARE ANGRY?
Hosts yell HULLABALOO!
Lucas yells HULLABALOO!
Laura says I FEEL LIKE IT'S HULLABALOO.
Lucas says DO YOU?
Laura says 'CAUSE, 'CAUSE, YOU KNOW WHEN
YOU'RE MAD
AND YOU "HULLABALOO!"
Lucas says AH!
REALLY LOUD NOISES.
Zoey says REALLY LOUD?
THAT'S CORRECT.
Hosts yell YEAH!
Zoey says YOU GOT IT RIGHT!
Laura yells HULLABALOO!
Lucas says WE ARE THE DICTIONARY
AND SO ARE YOU GUYS.
OKAY, READY?
YOU DO THAT ONE.
Laura says OKAY, OKAY, UM, "KERFUFFLE."
A BUNCH OF FEATHERS,
OR TO MAKE A FUSS?
DISCUSS.
Lukas says I THINK IT'S TO MAKE A FUSS.
Zoey says KERFUFFLE.
KERFUFFLE!
YEAH, YOU KNOW WHAT?
IT WOULD BE.
YES, I WOULD SAY THAT IF I...
Lucas says TO MAKE A FUSS?
Laura says TO MAKE A FUSS.
Zoey says KERFUFFLE!
Laura says CORRECT!
Lucas says HEY!
Kids say YES!
Lucas says OKAY.
Zoey says THAT'S ANOTHER ONE.
Lucas says OKAY, ALL RIGHT.
YOU GUYS ARE BRINGING IT.
YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR STUFF.
Zoey says WE'RE READY TO GO.
Lukas reads "BIBBLE."
Lucas says BIBBLE?
Lukas says THE WORD "BIBBLE."
TO DRINK OFTEN,
OR A VERY SHORT CONVERSATION?
Zoey says OOH!
Laura says HUH?
Lucas says HEY.
Laura says BIBBLE!
Lucas says DID WE JUST HAVE A BIBBLE?
Laura says BIBBLE, BIBBLE.
Lucas says BIBBLE.
DO YOU THINK
IT'S A SHORT CONVERSATION?
Laura says I THINK MAYBE.
Lucas says OKAY!
Laura says LET'S GO WITH THAT.
OKAY, SHORT CONVERSATION.
Lukas says THE CORRECT ANSWER
IS "TO DRINK OFTEN."
Hosts say OHHHHH!
Zoey says YES!
SO CLOSE!
Lucas says OKAY, ONE MORE FOR FUN.
BONUS QUESTION.
"RAGAMUFFIN."
DIRTY BREAKFAST FOOD,
OR A PERSON WHO WEARS
DIRTY AND SCRUFFY CLOTHES?
HM.
Zoey says LUKAS, YOU'RE A RAGAMUFFIN.
Lucas says HEY.
Lukas says OH, NO!
I'M A RAGAMUFFIN.
Zoey says YOU KNOW WHAT?
YEP, I'M GONNA SAY...
Laura says SCRUFFY?
Zoey says YEP, SCRUFFY.
Lucas says SCRUFFY, YOU'RE RIGHT, OKAY.
Kids say YES!
Lucas says YOU'RE THE WINNERS.
HIGH-FIVES!
Laura says SCRUFFY CLOTHES, AMAZING!
YOU GUYS KNOW YOUR WACKY WORDS.
Zoey says THANK YOU!
Lukas says YES, WE DO KNOW
OUR WACKY, WACKY WORDS.
Lucas says YES, TVO KIDS, WATCH
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW.
IT'S SO GREAT.
AND, TUNE IN WITH US.
WE HAVE A BULLY EXPERT
COMING IN ON MONDAY.
SO, E-MAIL YOUR QUESTIONS
TO TVOKIDS@TVO.ORG.
Laura says ABSOLUTELY, AND ALSO SEND US
YOUR BIRTHDAYS AS WELL.
DO YOU GUYS HAVE
BIRTHDAYS COMING UP?
Kids say NO.
The caption changes to "Call us at 1-888-886-5437."
Zoey says BUT...
NO.
Lucas says NO, OKAY.
Laura says FAIR ENOUGH.
IN A COUPLE MONTHS.
Lukas says YEAH.
Lucas says WE GOTTA SAY GOODBYE.
Laura says ABSOLUTELY.
Laura says ALL RIGHT, LET'S HIT IT.
Laura plays the ukelele and they all sing SO LONG,
SEE YA LATER
I BET TOMORROW
WILL EVEN BE GREATER
BUT NOW IT'S TIME
TO SAY GOODBYE TO YOU
Lucas says AND YOU, 'CAUSE YOU GUYS ARE
TOO GOOD AT GAMES, JUST KIDDING.
They sing SO LONG,
SAYONARA
CLUE!
Kids say LEND A HAND
They sing IS THE PASSWORD FOR TOMORROW
BUT NOW, IT'S TIME
TO SAY GOODBYE TO YOU.
Lucas says THAT'S RIGHT.
I'M LUCAS.
MAKE SOME MAGIC.
Laura says I'M LAURA.
BE TRUE TO YOU.
Lukas says I'M LUKAS.
Zoey says I'M ZOEY.
They say FROM
THE WACKY WORD SHOW.
Lucas says AH, SO WACKY!
SEE YOU LATER, TVO KIDS.
(music plays)
A caption reads "Copyright 2019, The Ontario Educational Communications Authority."
Robert says WELL, I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THAT.
I KNOW I SURE DID!
I REALLY ENJOYED THAT.
UM, AS I MENTIONED EARLIER
ABOUT MY CHILDREN
AND THEIR BEDTIME STORIES,
AND HOW THEY DON'T LIKE TO SLEEP
WITHOUT A BEDTIME STORY,
ESPECIALLY THE ONES
I'VE MADE UP ON THE SPOT.
I'VE ALSO MENTIONED THAT
IT TAKES A LOT OF IMAGINATION,
AND A BIG IDEA,
AND CREATIVITY TO DO THAT.
BOYS AND GIRLS, OUR IMAGINATIONS
ARE POWERFUL TOOLS, OKAY.
AND THEY'RE SO POWERFUL THAT WE
CAN US THEM TO CREATE
WONDERFUL STORIES OURSELVES.
AND IT'S FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY.
SO WHEN WE'RE TELLING STORIES,
MAKE SURE YOU SHARE YOUR STORIES
WITH OTHER PEOPLE, THAT'S WHAT
MAKES STORY TELLING
SUCH A GREAT THING, OKAY.
AND WHEN YOU GET OLDER, AND
START DOING SOME MORE WRITING,
THAT'S WHEN SHARING YOUR STORIES
THROUGH WRITING
BECOMES SUCH A WONDERFUL TOOL
AS WELL.
UH, WHEN YOU THINK OF STORIES,
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE PIECES
THAT YOU THINK MAKE UP
A GOOD STORY?
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT
MAKE UP A GREAT STORY,
BOYS AND GIRLS?
WELL, I THINK OF THE CHARACTERS.
THE PEOPLE, OR THE THINGS,
OR THE ANIMALS.
UM, AND WHAT THESE CHARACTERS
LOOK LIKE.
WHAT KIND OF PERSONALITIES
THEY MIGHT HAVE.
ARE THEY QUIET, ARE THEY LOUD?
ARE THEY BOSSY, ARE THEY MEAN?
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS
THEY LIKE TO DO?
CHARACTERS CAN BE ANYTHING
TO ANYONE, OKAY?
ANYTHING YOU WANT TO CREATE
WITH YOUR WONDERFUL IMAGINATION.
THEY CAN BE ANYTHING THAT
YOU DECIDE YOU WANT THEM TO BE.
ONE OF MY CHILDREN'S FAVOURITE
CHARACTERS THAT I MADE UP
IS NAMED MR. PICKLES.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT,
MR. PICKLES IS ONE OF THEIR
FAVOURITES.
AND YOU GUESSED IT,
MR. PICKLES IS A PICKLE.
HE IS A PICKLE.
SO YOU CAN JUST IMAGINE WHAT A
LIVING, BREATHING PICKLE
MIGHT LOOK LIKE.
WHY DON'T I TELL YOU ONE OF THE
MR. PICKLE STORIES RIGHT NOW,
AND YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN
IMAGINATION TO DRAW
WHAT YOU THINK MR. PICKLES
MIGHT LOOK LIKE.
SO I'M GONNA TELL YOU THE
MR. PICKLES STORY,
AND WHILE I'M TELLING YOU
THE STORY,
WHY DON'T YOU, WITH YOUR
PENCIL OR PEN,
OR COLOURED PENCIL AND
YOUR PAPER,
OR WHATEVER IT IS YOU'VE DECIDED
TO DRAW ON TODAY,
DRAW OUT WHAT YOU THINK
MR. PICKLES MIGHT LOOK LIKE.
SO, NOW REMEMBER, THESE ARE
REALLY SILLY STORIES.
ONCE UPON A TIME,
THERE WAS A PICKLE.
AND IT WASN'T JUST AN
ORDINARY PICKLE.
THIS PICKLE HAD A NAME.
HIS NAME WAS MR. PICKLES.
AND MR. PICKLES WORE A SUIT.
AND HE HAD FEET AND ARMS.
AND HE WALKED AROUND.
NOW SOMETIMES HIS SUIT WAS
KIND OF TICKLY,
SO HE WAS ALWAYS SMILING AND
LAUGHING A LITTLE BIT.
AND SO HE WAS ALWAYS A VERY
HAPPY PICKLE.
NOW, MR. PICKLES ONE DAY DECIDED
THAT HE HAD TO GO
TO THE GROCERY STORE,
AND HE DECIDED HE WOULD GO
WALKING TO THE GROCERY STORE
SO HE WALKED DOWN HIS
NEIGHBOURHOOD,
AND HE ENTERED
THE GROCERY STORE,
AND HE JUST SO HAPPENED TO
DECIDE TO GO DOWN THE AISLE
WHERE THE JARS OF PICKLES AND
OLIVES AND OTHER THINGS
KEPT IN JARS WERE UP HIGH
ON THE SHELVES.
WELL, AS HE WAS COMING DOWN
THE AISLE,
SOMEBODY ACCIDENTALLY KNOCKED
DOWN A JAR OF...
YOU GUESSED IT. PICKLES.
AND A BIG JAR OF PICKLES CAME
TUMBLING DOWN
AND SHATTERED ALL OVER
THE FLOOR.
AND THERE WERE A WHOLE BUNCH OF
PICKLES LAYING ON THE GROUND.
AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF GLASS
LAYING EVERYWHERE.
MR. PICKLES STOOD BACK.
HE WAS IN SHOCK.
'CAUSE IT KIND OF ALMOST
HIT HIM.
AND EVERYBODY STARED DOWN
AT THE PICKLES.
AND THEN THEY LOOKED OVER
AT MR. PICKLES.
NOW USUALLY MR. PICKLES
DOESN'T MIND
THAT OTHER PEOPLE LOOK AT HIM.
IN FACT, HE KINDA DOESN'T...
IT KIND OF DOESN'T BOTHER
HIM AT ALL,
'CAUSE HE KNOWS HE IS AN USUAL
PICKLE, RIGHT?
HE ACTUALLY PRETENDS THAT
HE'S KIND OF FAMOUS
AND THAT'S WHY PEOPLE
LOOK AT HIM.
BUT HE WAS KIND OF GETTING A
LITTLE BIT WORRIED
BECAUSE HERE'S THIS BIG THING
OF BROKEN PICKLES
LAYING ON THE FLOOR,
AND IT'S EVERYWHERE.
A BUNCH OF BROKEN GLASS,
A BUNCH OF PICKLES, AND HIM,
IN HIS SUIT,
STANDING RIGHT THERE.
AND BEFORE HE KNEW ABOUT IT,
BEFORE HE CAN EVEN REACT,
THERE WAS SOMEBODY WITH A BIG
MOP AND A BIG PAIL,
COMING UP BEHIND HIM, READY TO
PUSH HIM INTO THE MESS
AND MOP HIM BACK INTO
THIS BUCKET.
SO WITH ALL OF HIS SPEED
AND EVERY OUNCE OF POWER HE HAD
INSIDE OF HIS LITTLE LEGS,
HE RAN AS FAST AS HE COULD.
BUT BEING A LITTLE TINY PICKLE,
HE BARELY GOT AWAY.
THE MOP WENT IN FRONT OF HIM,
IT ALMOST TRAPPED HIM.
HE WENT SIDEWAYS TO GET
OUT OF THE WAY.
HE'S PRETTY AGILE.
HE WENT BACK AND FORTH AND
BACK AND FORTH.
AND HE FINALLY GOT OUT OF
THE WAY OF THE MOP.
AND AS PEOPLE WERE STARING,
THEY WERE LOOKING DOWN THE AISLE
AND THEY WONDERED IF ONE OF THE
PICKLES JUST FELL LOOSE
OF THE MOP, SO THEY WERE
STARING AT HIM.
AND INSTEAD OF BEING FLATTERED
THAT THEY WERE STARING AT HIM,
MR. PICKLES KINDA GOT A
LITTLE BIT SCARED,
AND HE DECIDED THAT MAYBE
HE SHOULD JUST
LEAVE THE STORE ALL TOGETHER.
TODAY WAS NOT A GOOD DAY TO
GO GROCERY SHOPPING.
SO MR. PICKLES DECIDED,
"I'M LEAVING THE STORE."
SO HE WAS WALKING AS FAST
AS HE COULD,
HE DIDN'T WANT TO RUN ANYMORE TO
BRING MORE ATTENTION TO HIM.
AND AS HE WAS WALKING AS FAST
AS HE COULD,
HE WENT PAST THE FRUIT SECTION
OF THE STORE.
AND PAST THE FRUIT SECTION,
AS HE GOT TOWARDS
THE VEGETABLE SECTION,
HE HEARD A STRANGE SOUND.
AND THIS SOUND...
WAS KIND OF A WEIRD,
MUFFLED SOUND.
AND IT KIND OF SOUNDED LIKE...
(moaning softly)
AND MR. PICKLES STOPPED
AND LOOKED.
AND HE THOUGHT,
"THAT'S A STRANGE NOISE.
"WHY WOULD THERE BE A NOISE
LIKE THAT
"COMING FROM A BUNCH OF
VEGETABLES?"
AND SO HE STOPPED
AND EVEN THOUGH HE THOUGHT
HE WAS IN DANGER,
HE DECIDED THAT IT WAS A...
THAT HE WASN'T GOING TO LEAVE
RIGHT AWAY,
THAT HE WAS GOING TO INVESTIGATE
WHY THERE WERE SOME SOUNDS
COMING FROM THE VEGETABLES.
SO HE CLIMBED UP, ALL THE WAY UP
TO THE VEGETABLE STAND,
AND HE WAS LISTENING,
AND HE HEARD THE SOUND AGAIN.
AND HE HEARD THAT IT WAS COMING
FROM A BIG STACK OF VEGETABLES.
SO HE STARTED MOVING SOME
CARROTS OUT OF THE WAY.
AND THEN HE STARTED MOVING SOME
CORN OUT OF THE WAY.
AND HE MOVED SOME OTHER
VEGETABLES OUT OF THE WAY,
AND THEN HE SAW A BIG, BIG
STACK OF CELERY.
AND THEN HE HEARD SOMEBODY
TALKING.
"CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME HELP?"
AND MR. PICKLES SAID,
"IS THERE SOMEBODY THERE?"
"CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME HELP?"
AND MR. PICKLES PUSHED SOME
OF THE CELERY ASIDE,
AND THERE,
RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM,
WAS A LIVING, BREATHING,
PIECE OF CELERY.
AND HE SAID, "HELLO, MY NAME IS
MR. PICKLES.
"WHAT'S YOUR NAME?"
AND HE SAID,
"MY NAME IS MR. CELERY."
AND THEY BOTH SHOOK HANDS AND
THEY SAID, "NICE TO MEET YOU."
AT THE SAME TIME.
AND MR. PICKLES SAID,
"I DON'T MEAN TO BE RUDE,
"BUT I KIND OF NEED TO LEAVE
THE STORE RIGHT NOW,
"BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE
IT'S NOT VERY SAFE
"FOR ME TO BE HERE RIGHT NOW."
"AND I KIND OF...
IF I COULD GIVE YOU
"A LITTLE BIT OF ADVICE,
"I THINK MAYBE IT'S NOT SAFE FOR
YOU TO BE HERE RIGHT NOW."
AND MR. CELERY SAID,
"OH, WHY NOT?"
AND HE SAID, "WELL, SOMEBODY
MIGHT BUY YOU
"AND PUT YOU IN A SALAD,
OR PUT YOU IN A STIR-FRY
"OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT."
MR. CELERY, HIS EYES WENT REALLY
BIG AND BRIGHT.
"I DIDN'T EVEN THINK
ABOUT THAT!"
HE SAID, "WOULD YOU LIKE
TO JOIN ME?"
AND HE SAID, "CAN YOU HELP ME
GET OUT OF HERE?"
AND THEY HELD EACH OTHER'S HANDS
AND THEY JUMPED DOWN
OFF THE VEGETABLE STAND,
AND THEY WENT RIGHT OUT THE
STORE TOGETHER.
AND EVER SINCE THEN,
THEY'VE BEEN BEST FRIENDS.
THE END.
NOW THAT'S WHEN MR. PICKLES
MET MR. CELERY.
THAT IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE
STORIES...
I SHOULD SAY, IT'S ONE OF MY
CHILDREN'S FAVOURITE STORIES.
UM, AND AGAIN, IT'S...
IT'S ONE OF THE ONES THAT I MAKE
UP AT THE TOP OF MY HEAD
AS WE GO ALONG, AND IT'S HELPED
THEM GO TO SLEEP.
SO I WANTED TO ASK YOU,
HOW DID YOU DO WITH
YOUR MR. PICKLES PICTURES?
WERE YOU DRAWING AS I WAS
TELLING THE STORY?
I'M SURE THEY ALL LOOK AMAZING,
BOYS AND GIRLS.
UM, NOW,
I WANTED TO ASK YOU
A LITTLE BIT
ABOUT YOUR PICTURES,
BUT BEFORE I DO THAT,
YOU'VE PROBABLY BEEN SITTING
AROUND A LITTLE BIT,
AND YOU'VE PROBABLY BEEN
DRAWING A LITTLE BIT,
AND IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME FOR
YOU TO SIT AND DRAW.
AND I'M WONDERING IF MAYBE YOU
WANTED TO MOVE AROUND
A LITTLE BIT AND HAVE A LITTLE
BIT OF A BODY BREAK.
SO I'M WONDERING IF YOU WANTED
TO DO THAT RIGHT NOW.
WE CAN HAVE A LITTLE BIT
OF A BODY BREAK.
SO EVERYBODY STAND UP
REAL QUICK.
EVERYBODY STAND UP.
THIS WON'T TAKE LONG.
EVERYBODY STRETCH THEIR ARMS UP
REALLY, REALLY HIGH.
JUST GET THEMSELVES READY, OKAY?
AND WE'RE GOING TO PLAY
A LITTLE GAME.
AND IT'S...
IT'S A FUN LITTLE GAME
BECAUSE AFTER YOU STRETCH YOUR
BODY UP REALLY, REALLY HIGH,
YOU PUT YOUR ARMS DOWN AND
SHAKE IT ALL OUT,
AND IF YOU LIKE ICE CREAM...
IF YOU LIKE ICE CREAM,
I'M GONNA ASK YOU TO JUMP
ON ONE FOOT.
SO JUST HOP AROUND ON
ONE FOOT, OKAY?
SO THAT'S IF YOU LIKE ICE CREAM,
OKAY?
OKAY, AND IF YOU LIKE...
BUBBLEGUM, THEN DO SOME
JUMPING JACKS.
SO MY ICE CREAM PEOPLE,
YOU JUMP ON ONE FOOT,
AND MY BUBBLEGUM PEOPLE,
YOU DO SOME JUMPING JACKS.
GO AHEAD.
I'M SURE YOU'RE DOING
A GREAT JOB.
ALL RIGHT, LET'S CHANGE IT UP.
LET'S CHANGE IT UP.
NOW IF YOU LIKE, UH, SOME PIZZA,
SO IF YOU LIKE PIZZA,
I WANT YOU TO HOP AROUND
LIKE A BUNNY.
SO TWO FEET, LIKE A BUNNY, OKAY?
BUT IF YOU LIKE HAMBURGERS,
I WANT YOU TO BALANCE
ON ONE FOOT.
I WANT YOU TO BALANCE.
TEST OUT YOUR BALANCE
ON ONE FOOT.
SO IF YOU LIKE HAMBURGERS,
YOU'RE GONNA BALANCE
ON ONE FOOT,
AND IF YOU LIKE PIZZA,
I'M GOING TO ASK YOU TO HOP
AROUND LIKE A BUNNY.
GO AHEAD, GIVE THAT A TRY.
YES, GOOD!
SEE, ISN'T IT NICE
JUST TO MOVE AROUND
A LITTLE BIT?
GOT THOSE BODIES-- GET THOSE
BODIES MOVING A LITTLE BIT,
MAYBE WAKE UP THOSE MUSCLES,
THOSE BONES.
OKAY, AND NOTICE THAT
THE GAME HAD US USING A LITTLE
BIT OF OUR IMAGINATIONS.
WE WERE TALKING ABOUT EATING
CERTAIN FOODS
AS WE WERE MOVING AROUND,
EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE
ANY PIZZA FOR YOU.
OR ICE CREAM FOR YOU,
OR BUBBLEGUM FOR YOU.
SORRY ABOUT THAT,
WE COULD HAVE IMAGINED THAT WE
HAD THOSE THINGS.
OKAY, SPEAKING OF "IMAGINE,"
I WONDER WHAT OUR FRIENDS AT
CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT
THINK ABOUT STORIES, WRITING,
AND IMAGINATION.
WELL, LET'S TAKE A LOOK
TOGETHER, SHALL WE?
Ella is around 10 years old. She has dark brown hair and wears a purple T-shirt.
In a clip, Ella says HI, I'M ELLA! IF I COULD BE
ANYTHING, I WOULD BE A WRITER!
A song plays as an animation shows kids imagining different professions.
It goes IMAGINE, IMAGINE
IMAGINE POWERFUL
IMAGINE COMICAL
IMAGINE MAGICAL
CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT
Ella says HI, I'M ELLA!
IF I COULD BE ANYTHING,
I WOULD BE A WRITER.
A WRITER, OR AUTHOR,
IS SOMEONE WHO WRITES STORIES.
A WRITER COULD WRITE
FOR MAGAZINES OR NEWSPAPERS.
OR EVEN WRITE PLAYS OR MOVIES!
BEING A WRITER WOULD BE
LOTS OF FUN.
I LOVE BEING CREATIVE.
I WOULD GET ALL COMFORTABLE
IN MY CHAIR.
THEN I'LL START WRITING.
AS A WRITER, I WOULD WRITE ABOUT
ANYTHING I COULD IMAGINE.
I COULD CREATE AMAZING
CHARACTERS.
THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE OR
CREATURES
THAT MY STORY IS ABOUT.
SOME WOULD BE ADVENTUROUS!
ADVENTURE STORIES HAVE
LOTS OF ACTION.
Cartoons recreate Ella's stories.
She continues MY ADVENTURE WOULD BE
ABOUT A BRAVE GIRL
WHO SAVES THE CITY FROM A BIG
PURPLE MONSTER!
AND SOME OF MY STORIES WOULD
BE MYSTERIES.
LIKE WHO STOLE THE MONEY FROM
THE PIGGY BANK?!
MYSTERIES HAVE DETECTIVES IN
THEM WHO LOOK FOR CLUES
AND STUDY ALL THE CHARACTERS
IN THE STORY
TO SOLVE THE MYSTERY.
DUN-DUN-DUN
AH-HAH! IT WAS YOU, DOGGIE!
IT WAS YOU, DOGGIE,
WHO ROBBED THE PIGGY BANK!
(siren wailing)
AS A WRITER, MY STORIES COULD
TAKE PLACE ANYWHERE,
LIKE OUTER SPACE.
ZOOM! ZOOM!
MY FAVOURITE KIND OF STORY TO
WRITE WOULD BE SCIENCE FICTION.
I WOULD IMAGINE WHAT THINGS
WOULD BE LIKE
AND WHAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT
IN THE FUTURE.
MAYBE INSTEAD OF WALKING
TO SCHOOL,
WE COULD ALL TAKE A SPACESHIP.
AND OUR CLASSROOM WOULD BE
ON THE MOON!
I WOULD MAKE UP FUNNY CHARACTERS
IN MY STORIES.
THERE WILL BE A DENTIST
NAMED EMILY.
SHE WILL LIVE ON A PINK PLANET
WITH HER PINK DOG, MOLAR.
IN THIS STORY, A BABY ALIEN
HAS A STAR STUCK
IN HIS BIG, PINK TEETH.
ALIENS LIKE TO EAT STARS.
OH, AND CHEESE.
EMILY WILL USE HER DENTIST TOOLS
TO GET THE STAR OUT.
THE DENTIST WILL REMIND THE BABY
ALIEN TO FLOSS EVERY DAY.
THE BABY ALIEN WILL BE SO HAPPY!
SOMETIMES AS A WRITER,
IT'S HARD TO COME UP WITH
LOTS OF UNIQUE IDEAS
FOR A STORY.
SO WHEN I HAVE TROUBLE,
I DO MY CRAZY DANCE
TO LOOSEN UP ALL MY IDEAS.
I WOULD WRITE A FANTASY STORY.
IT WOULD BE ABOUT A MAGICAL
CATERPILLAR NAMED MOLLY.
MOLLY SEARCHES THE WORLD
FOR A GOLDEN GRASSHOPPER
WHO WAS LOST BY AN EVIL QUEEN.
AS A WRITER, IT'S IMPORTANT
TO HAVE A GOOD PLOT.
THAT'S THE BEGINNING, MIDDLE
AND END OF MY STORY.
WHEN MOLLY THE CATERPILLAR
FINDS THE GOLDEN GRASSHOPPER,
IT LEADS TO THE WILLOW FIELDS.
MOLLY BREAKS
THE EVIL QUEEN'S SPELL.
IN RETURN,
MOLLY THE CATERPILLAR TURNS INTO
A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY.
THE END.
MY STORY WOULD BE
IN ALL THE BOOKSTORES
AND LIBRARIES,
SO EVERYONE COULD READ THEM.
I LOVE BEING A WRITER.
A song says CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING ANYTHING
YOU WANT TO BE
CAN YOU IMAGINE THERE'S
A WORLD FULL OF FANTASY
AND IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT LOTS
IT BECOMES SO REAL
DID YOU KNOW, DID YOU KNOW
DID YOU KNOW
THAT YOU CAN DO ANYTHING
YOU WANT TO DO
IMAGINE THIS OR THAT
THINK OF SOMETHING NEW
AND YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE
A THING OR TWO
ANYTHING YOU WANT
IT'S REALLY UP TO YOU
BA-BA-BA-BA
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-BA BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-BA
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-BA BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
CAN YOU IMAGINE
THAT
Ella says I'M ELLA, AND I AM A WRITER.
IMAGINE THAT!
The end credits roll.
Robert says WELL, THAT WAS GREAT,
BOYS AND GIRLS.
I REALLY ENJOYED THAT
"CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT" EPISODE.
UH, I WANTED TO SHOW YOU
SOME PICTURES.
I KNOW THAT YOU WERE DRAWING
SOME PICTURES OF MR. PICKLES,
AND I HOPE YOU WERE
ENJOYING THAT.
BUT I WANTED TO SHOW YOU
SOME PICTURES,
NOT THAT I WAS DRAWING,
BUT THAT MY OWN CHILDREN DREW.
JUST A COUPLE OF THEM
DREW SOME PICTURES.
AND I'M GOING TO HOLD IT UP TO
THE CAMERA FOR YOU.
THERE'S MR. PICKLES RIGHT HERE.
SO, THAT'S HOW ONE OF
MY CHILDREN
SORT OF PICTURED
HOW MR. PICKLES WOULD LOOK
WITH HIS SUIT ON.
AND HE'S GOT A HAT ON THERE.
HE LOOKS PRETTY HAPPY.
HE'S GOT A BIG SMILE.
AND... ..ONE OF MY YOUNGER CHILDREN
DREW THIS ONE.
REALLY LIKES MR. PICKLES.
AND SO, MR. PICKLES, AGAIN,
HE'S GOT A GREAT BIG SMILE
THERE.
I'M NOT SURE IF YOU CAN TELL,
BUT HE HAS A GREAT BIG SMILE
THERE,
AND HE LOOKS LIKE
HE'S ENJOYING HIMSELF.
NOW, I WANTED YOU TO NOTICE
THAT...
I'M NOT SURE IF YOU DID NOTICE
OR NOT.
THAT IN BOTH PICTURES,
WHETHER IT WAS THIS ONE
OR THIS ONE,
THAT MR. PICKLES, OUR CHARACTER,
HE WAS JUST KIND OF
FLOATING AROUND THERE.
SO, WE HAVE OUR MAIN CHARACTER,
MR. PICKLES,
AND WE TALKED ABOUT
HOW CHARACTERS WERE
AN IMPORTANT PART OF STORIES.
AND MR. PICKLES IS JUST KIND OF
FLOATING AROUND THERE
IN THIS SORT OF SPACE.
AND I WANTED TO TALK TO YOU
ABOUT THE FACT THAT
THERE ARE PLACES IN STORIES
THAT WE TALK ABOUT, TOO.
SO, WE KNOW THAT FOR A STORY
THAT THERE'S A MAIN PLACE
IN EACH STORY,
OR AT LEAST
ONE MAIN PLACE IN EACH STORY
THAT WE TALK ABOUT.
AND THE PLACES THAT THE
CHARACTER OR CHARACTERS GO TO
ARE CALLED THE SETTING, OKAY?
SO, THE SETTING OR SETTINGS.
AND I WONDER, IN YOUR PICTURES...
I CAN'T SEE YOUR PICTURES
RIGHT NOW.
BUT I'M WONDERING,
WHEN YOU DREW YOUR MR. PICKLES,
IF YOU DREW THE GROCERY STORE.
I WONDER IF SOME OF YOU DREW
THE AISLE
WHERE THE OTHER PICKLES WERE
OR IF SOME OF YOU DREW,
YOU KNOW,
WHERE THE VEGETABLE STAND WAS
WHERE MR. CELERY WAS FOUND.
SO, I'M JUST CURIOUS TO FIND OUT
IF SOME OF YOU DREW THE SETTING.
SO, DID ANY OF YOU DRAW
THE GROCERY STORE?
DID ANY OF YOU DRAW
INSIDE THE GROCERY STORE?
I'M JUST WONDERING
IF ANY OF YOU HAD DONE THAT,
BECAUSE MY CHILDREN
JUST FOCUSED ON THE CHARACTER.
THEY JUST WANTED TO DRAW
MR. PICKLES.
AND THAT'S OKAY, BECAUSE
I JUST KIND OF TOLD THEM,
"HEY, CAN YOU DRAW A PICTURE
OF MR. PICKLES FOR ME?
"'CAUSE I WANTED TO SHARE IT
WITH MY FRIENDS
ON
TVOKIDS POWER HOUR
OF LEARNING."
AND THEY WERE, LIKE, "YEAH,
FOR SURE. I'D LOVE TO DO THAT."
UM, ANOTHER PART
OF A GOOD STORY...
ANOTHER PART OF A GOOD STORY.
SO, WE'VE GOT CHARACTERS;
WE'VE GOT SETTING.
SO, WE GOT THOSE PEOPLE, THINGS
AND OTHER THINGS
THAT CREATE THE CHARACTERS.
AND WE'VE GOT THE PLACES,
WHICH IS THE SETTING.
IS-- ANOTHER GOOD PART OF
A STORY IS CALLED THE PROBLEM.
OKAY?
NOW, BOYS AND GIRLS,
CAN ANY OF YOU TELL ME
WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS
IN THE MR. PICKLES STORY?
WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM?
AND PERHAPS THERE WAS MORE THAN
ONE PROBLEM
IN THE MR. PICKLES STORY.
THAT'S RIGHT. THAT'S RIGHT.
SO, MR. PICKLES
HAD HIS OWN PROBLEM.
HE WAS ABOUT TO GET
SWEPT UP INTO A BUCKET,
OR MOPPED UP INTO A BUCKET,
RIGHT?
WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER RANDOM
PICKLES AND BROKEN GLASS.
AND OUR NEW FRIEND, MR. CELERY,
HE KIND OF HAD A PROBLEM, TOO.
HE JUST DIDN'T REALIZE IT
AT THE TIME.
THAT HE WAS LAYING THERE,
BEING READY TO BE SOLD
AT THE STORE,
MAYBE TO END UP
IN SOMEBODY'S SALAD, RIGHT?
AND SO, THEY BOTH HAD
THEIR OWN PROBLEM, OKAY?
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT
MR. CELERY WAS NOT EATEN
AND MR. PICKLES
WAS NOT SCOOPED INTO A BUCKET,
AND THEY BECAME FAST FRIENDS.
BUT THERE WERE A FEW THINGS
THAT HAPPENED
KIND OF IN BETWEEN THAT, RIGHT?
THERE WAS A FEW THINGS
THAT HAPPENED
KIND OF IN BETWEEN THAT,
BEFORE THEY BECAME FAST FRIENDS
AND EVERYTHING BECAME OKAY
AND EVERYTHING ENDED, OKAY?
AND THOSE THINGS ARE IMPORTANT
TO THE STORY.
THOSE THINGS ARE CALLED
THE KEY EVENTS, OKAY?
UH, SO THOSE KEY EVENTS LEAD US
O WHAT WE CALL THE SOLUTION,
OR HOW THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED.
AND SO, THOSE KEY EVENTS
ARE THOSE LITTLE TINY THINGS
THAT HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE STORY
THAT HELP US SOLVE THE PROBLEM
GOING THROUGH THE STORY.
AND WHEN WE SOLVE THE PROBLEM,
THAT'S THE SOLUTION, OKAY?
WOW.
A LITTLE TINY, SILLY STORY
LIKE MR. PICKLES...
IT'S A SILLY BEDTIME STORY,
AND IT HAS ALL THESE KEY THINGS.
IT HAS ALL THESE KEY THINGS
FOR US TO REMEMBER.
AND WHEN YOU WANT TO BE
A GOOD STORYTELLER,
YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER
THE CHARACTERS, THE SETTING,
THE PROBLEM.
YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER
THOSE KEY EVENTS, THE SOLUTION.
AND IT REALLY PUTS
OUR IMAGINATION TO TASK,
BUT OUR IMAGINATION
AND CREATIVITY
ARE POWERFUL TOOLS,
AND I KNOW THAT WE CAN ALL DO
A GREAT JOB
WITH OUR STORYTELLING
SUPERPOWERS
AND BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
NOW, DO YOU REMEMBER EARLIER
WHEN I MENTIONED THAT
WE HEAR STORIES AND WE KNOW
STORIES FROM EVERYWHERE?
THEY COME UP FROM EVERYWHERE.
WELL, IT'S TRUE.
SOME OF YOU DREW SOME
NICE ARTWORK BASED ON STORIES.
BUT YOU ALSO KNOW THAT STORIES
ARE IN BOOKS AND ARE SPOKEN.
SO, WE MENTIONED THAT.
AND SOME STORIES
ARE MADE FROM IMAGINATION.
THOSE ARE CALLED
FICTIONAL STORIES.
SO, THE ONES THAT PEOPLE MAKE UP
ARE CALLED FICTIONAL STORIES,
WHILE OTHER STORIES
ARE ABOUT REAL EVENTS,
REAL THINGS
THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED,
AND THOSE ARE CALLED NONFICTION,
OKAY?
SO, THE ONES THAT ARE ABOUT
REAL EVENTS ARE NONFICTION,
AND THE ONES THAT ARE MADE UP
ARE CALLED FICTION OR FICTIONAL,
OKAY?
I'D ALSO MENTIONED THAT MUSIC
PLAYS A BIG ROLE
IN STORYTELLING.
THERE ARE SOME TYPES OF MUSIC
WHERE THE LYRICS, OKAY,
THE WORDS IN THE STORY...
THE WORDS IN THE MUSIC
TELL A STORY.
OKAY?
AND THE LYRICS IN A SONG
CAN BE STORY-LIKE.
SO, FOR EXAMPLE,
I BET YOU I CAN PLAY A SONG
WITH MY GUITAR BACK HERE.
I BET YOU
I CAN PLAY A SONG,
AND IT'D PROBABLY BE
A LITTLE SILLY SONG,
MAYBE A LITTLE PART OF A SONG,
ABOUT MR. PICKLES.
AND I BET YOU I COULD MAKE YOU
LAUGH A LITTLE BIT WITH IT.
AND IT'LL BE LIKE
A LITTLE BIT OF A STORY
WITH SOME GUITAR-PLAYING.
SO, I'M GOING TO DO THAT
RIGHT NOW
AND JUST SEE IF YOU ENJOY THAT.
Now, he holds a guitar.
He continues OKAY, BOYS AND GIRLS.
I HAVE MY GUITAR.
AND AS PROMISED,
I'M GOING TO PLAY A LITTLE TUNE.
NOT A FULL SONG.
MAYBE SOMETHING JUST LITTLE
ABOUT MR. PICKLES.
AND I, UM,
I THINK IT'S A LITTLE BIT SILLY
AND A LITTLE BIT FUNNY,
JUST LIKE THE MR. PICKLES STORY.
AND IT GOES A LITTLE BIT
LIKE THIS.
(strumming chords on guitar)
He sings MY NAME IS MR., MR. PICKLES
I WEAR A SUIT
SOMETIMES IT TICKLES
I WALK AROUND ALL DAY
PEOPLE STARE
I'M OKAY WITH THAT
IN FACT, I DON'T CARE
I LIKE TO MAKE FRIENDS
OH, YES, SIRREE
LIKE MY GOOD BUDDY
MR. CELERY.
As he sings, the two drawings of Mister Pickles appear.
He says AND BOYS AND GIRLS,
I COULD PROBABLY GO ON AND ON
WITH THAT SONG.
IT'S A LITTLE BIT FUNNY
BUT IT'S A LITTLE BIT SILLY,
AND AGAIN,
IT'S JUST, LIKE, PROOF
THAT MUSIC CAN BE
LIKE STORYTELLING AS WELL,
WHERE THE LYRICS,
THE SONGS IN THE STORY,
GET CARRIED THROUGH
BY THE INSTRUMENT.
AND WE PUT IT ALL TOGETHER,
AND ANYONE WHO HAS HEARD
THE MR. PICKLES STORIES NOW
CAN HAVE A GOOD LAUGH ABOUT
THE SONG.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
I MIGHT WRITE DOWN THAT SONG
AND MAKE IT A WHOLE SONG,
NOT JUST A LITTLE TINY SONG,
AND SING IT FOR MY CHILDREN
AS WELL
TO MAKE THEM LAUGH.
WELL, BOYS AND GIRLS, I HAD A
LOT OF FUN PLAYING THAT FOR YOU.
THE SONG IS A LITTLE BIT SILLY,
AND I HOPE THAT YOU HAD FUN
LISTENING TO IT.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
IT'S ABOUT STORYTELLING
THROUGH MUSIC,
SO ANY OF YOU CAN MAKE UP
A SONG LYRIC AS WELL.
YOU CAN MAYBE FINISH UP
THE MR. PICKLES SONG
IF YOU WANT TO.
SO, THE LAST PART OF MY LYRICS
SAID,
"I LIKE TO MAKE FRIENDS,
YES, SIRREE.
LIKE MY GOOD FRIEND,
MR. CELERY."
WELL, MAYBE YOU CAN TALK
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MR. CELERY
IN YOUR SONG,
AND MAYBE YOU CAN DRAW A PICTURE
OF MR. CELERY AS WELL
WITH YOUR SONG.
THERE'S LOTS OF DIFFERENT WAYS
WE CAN TELL STORIES:
THROUGH OUR ARTWORK
AND THROUGH OUR LYRICS,
AND THROUGH OUR WORDS,
OF COURSE.
THROUGH OUR WRITING
AND ENJOYING IT THAT WAY.
REMEMBER,
USE THOSE CREATIVE SUPERPOWERS.
THOSE ARE GOING TO HELP YOU.
WE LEARNED A GREAT DEAL TODAY
ABOUT STORIES.
WE LEARNED THAT STORIES
CAN BE FOUND EVERYWHERE.
WE ALSO LEARNED THAT
IT'S OUR AMAZING IMAGINATIONS,
AND THAT
OUR GREAT CREATIVE ABILITIES
CAN CREATE STORIES
ABOUT REAL THINGS.
AND THINGS-- AND THEN, THAT
WE CAN ALSO TALK ABOUT THINGS
THAT HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED.
WE KNOW THAT MUSIC AND ART,
EVEN MY SILLY, SILLY SONG
THAT YOU HEARD
AND PROBABLY LAUGHED AT
A LITTLE BIT...
I KNOW THAT I LAUGHED.
WE KNOW THAT THOSE ARE
THOSE ARE SOME FUNNY THINGS
THAT WE CAN CREATE OURSELVES.
WE ALSO LEARNED THAT THERE ARE
CERTAIN PARTS OF A STORY
THAT MAKE GREAT STORIES, OKAY?
REMEMBER WE TALKED ABOUT
THE CHARACTER
AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE SETTING,
OKAY?
SO, THE CHARACTER
IS THOSE PEOPLE OR THINGS
THAT WE TALK ABOUT IN THE STORY.
THE SETTING IS THOSE PLACES
THAT THOSE PEOPLE OR THINGS
THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT,
WHERE IT'S ALL TAKING PLACE,
RIGHT?
THE SETTING.
AND THE PROBLEM, THAT'S WHEN
WE EXPLORE WHAT'S WRONG.
OKAY? THAT'S THE PROBLEM.
WHAT'S GOING ON?
AND IN MR. PICKLES' STORY,
THERE WERE A FEW PROBLEMS, OKAY?
MAYBE IN YOUR STORIES, THERE
JUST NEEDS TO BE ONE BIG PROBLEM
AND THAT'S ALL, OKAY?
AND THAT'S OKAY.
WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT
THOSE KEY ELEMENTS,
THOSE IMPORTANT THINGS,
THOSE IMPORTANT LITTLE THINGS
THAT LEAD US INTO THE SOLUTION
OF THE PROBLEM,
HOW THE PROBLEM GETS SOLVED.
THOSE ARE JUST, YOU KNOW,
HOW THINGS GET SOLVED, OKAY?
AND OF COURSE, AT THE END,
THE SOLUTION, OKAY?
WHEN THINGS GET SOLVED
FOR THE CHARACTERS.
OKAY?
SO, THAT'S THE IMPORTANT THING
IS AT THE END,
WE ADD THAT SOLUTION
FOR THE CHARACTERS AND
HOW EVERYTHING GETS WRAPPED UP,
AND THE STORY ENDS THAT WAY.
OKAY?
WELL, BOYS AND GIRLS,
I REALLY ENJOYED SPENDING TIME
WITH YOU TODAY.
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED
SPENDING SOME TIME WITH ME.
AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU NEXT TIME
ON
TVOKIDS POWER HOUR
OF LEARNING.
I'VE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME
WITH YOU,
AND I WISH YOU A HAPPY DAY.
STAY HAPPY AND STAY SAFE.
TAKE CARE, EVERYONE.
BYE FOR NOW.
(music plays)
A final slate reads "TVO Kids would like to thank all the teachers involved in the Power Hour of Learning as they continue to teach the children of Ontario from their homes."
The caption changes to "Copyright 2021. The Ontario Educational Communications Authority."
A Female Announcer says WELCOME TO
TVO KIDS
POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.
A caption reads "Primary I-3 Teacher Robert." Robert is in his late thirties, clean-shaven with brown hair. He wears black-rimmed glasses, earrings and a blue shirt.
In a living room with a sofa and a guitar in the background, Robert says HELLO, BOYS AND GIRLS,
AND WELCOME BACK
TO ANOTHER EXCITING EPISODE
OF
TVO KIDS
POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.
MY NAME IS ROBERT
AND I'M SUPER EXCITED
TO BE HERE WITH YOU TODAY.
I HOPE YOU'RE ALL DOING WELL,
STAYING SAFE, AND DOING
YOUR BEST HAVING FUN AT HOME.
I WANTED TO GET
RIGHT INTO IT TODAY
BECAUSE TODAY WE'RE GOING TO
BE TALKING ABOUT SOME STORIES.
TALKING ABOUT STORIES,
AND ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS
THAT WE ENCOUNTER
STORIES IN OUR LIVES,
AND, HOW MUCH FUN WE HAVE
WHEN WE'RE
MAKING UP SOME STORIES,
AND WRITING OUT SOME STORIES,
AND READING
THROUGH SOME STORIES,
AND SOME WAYS THAT WE,
PERHAPS, DIDN'T THINK ABOUT
WHERE STORIES COME FROM.
HOW MANY OF YOU
LOVE TO LISTEN TO STORIES?
I KNOW THAT I DO.
I LOVE TO LISTEN TO STORIES.
AND WHERE DO YOU THINK THE IDEAS
OF SOME STORIES COME FROM?
THAT'S RIGHT.
THEY COME FROM IMAGINATION.
IMAGINATION
AND CREATIVITY, OKAY?
AND, BOYS AND GIRLS,
I'M SURE THAT YOU ALL HAVE
A WONDERFUL IMAGINATION
AND YOU'RE SUPER CREATIVE, OKAY?
AND IT TAKES THOSE THINGS
TO BE A GREAT STORYTELLER.
GREAT STORYTELLERS
TURN INTO GREAT MUSICIANS.
THEY TURN INTO GREAT WRITERS.
AND THEY END UP
BEING GREAT READERS.
ALL KINDS OF GREAT THINGS
HAPPEN FROM STORYTELLING.
AND SO, UM, WITHOUT
IMAGINATION AND CREATIVITY...
SOMETIMES IT'S FOR SCHOOL
WE USE OUR STORYTELLING POWERS.
WELL, I LIKE
TO CALL THEM POWERS.
STORYTELLING POWERS
FOR PROJECTS AT SCHOOL.
OTHER TIMES IT'S JUST
FOR RETELLING THINGS
THAT ACTUALLY
HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE.
THAT'S RIGHT.
THERE ARE STORIES THAT WE MAKE
UP WITH OUR IMAGINATIONS,
AND THEN THERE ARE STORIES
THAT ARE ACTUALLY TRUE.
LIKE, FOR EXAMPLE, OUR HISTORY,
WHEN WE SPEAK ABOUT HISTORY.
SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE LIKE,
"HISTORY!
SOMETIMES THAT CAN BE BORING."
WELL, I FIND HISTORY
TO BE SUPER EXCITING,
BECAUSE HISTORY IS SOMETHING
THAT'S HAPPENED BEFORE
THAT SOMEBODY IS RETELLING,
EITHER THROUGH A BOOK,
OR, THEY'RE RETELLING US
THROUGH WORD,
THROUGH STORYTELLING, OKAY?
NOW, HOW MANY OF YOU
LIKE BEDTIME STORIES?
I LIKE A GOOD BEDTIME STORY TOO.
AND, I HAVE FOUR
YOUNG CHILDREN AT HOME.
THAT'S RIGHT.
I HAVE FOUR
YOUNG CHILDREN AT HOME.
AND, NOT A ONE OF THEM
LIKES TO FALL ASLEEP
WITHOUT A BEDTIME STORY.
SO, I LIKE TO READ TO THEM
A LOT OF BEDTIME STORIES,
AND THEY REALLY ENJOY IT.
BUT THE ONE THING
THAT THEY ENJOY THE MOST
IS WHEN I MAKE UP
A BEDTIME STORY FOR THEM.
AND SO, I HAVE
TO USE MY CREATIVE POWERS
AND MY IMAGINATION
TO COME UP WITH BEDTIME STORIES
ALMOST EVERY NIGHT
FOR THEM TO FALL ASLEEP.
AND SO, I HAVE TO DIG
DEEP DOWN INTO MY IMAGINATION
AND TO MY CREATIVE POWERS
TO DO THAT.
AND, FINALLY THEY FALL ASLEEP
AFTERWARDS, OKAY?
SO, IT'S NOT
REALLY HARD FOR ME TO DO.
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE,
"ISN'T THAT REALLY HARD TO DO
EVERY NIGHT OR EVERY OTHER NIGHT
TO FIND A WAY
TO CREATE A STORY?"
AND I LIKE TO TELL PEOPLE,
"NO, IT'S NOT REALLY HARD TO DO,
BECAUSE THE MORE I PRACTISE IT,
THE BETTER I GET AT IT."
AND SO, BOYS AND GIRLS,
IF YOU EVER THINK ABOUT MAYBE
WANTING TO BE A STORYTELLER,
OR A WRITER ONE DAY,
ALL IT TAKES IS SOME PRACTICE.
AND THAT'S WHAT I GET
TO DO BECAUSE OF MY CHILDREN.
I GET TO SIT DOWN EVERY NIGHT
AND TELL THEM STORIES
FROM THE TOP OF MY HEAD
AND MAKE UP
SOME SILLY, SILLY STORIES
FOR THEM TO ENJOY
SO THAT THEY CAN FALL ASLEEP.
ALTHOUGH,
MAYBE THEY'RE FALLING ASLEEP
BECAUSE THEY'RE
BORED OF MY STORIES.
HM, I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT.
I'M JUST JOKING.
I THINK THEY'RE ENJOYING IT.
SO, STORIES ARE
A GREAT WAY TO BE CREATIVE.
THEY'RE A GREAT WAY
TO COMMUNICATE IDEAS.
THEY'RE A GREAT WAY
TO PRACTISE OUR WRITING.
SO, IF WE'RE ALREADY WRITING,
BOYS AND GIRLS,
IT'S A GOOD WAY
TO PRACTISE OUR WRITING.
AND OF COURSE, IT'S A GOOD WAY
TO PRACTISE OUR READING.
OKAY, THEN WE GET TO READ
SOME WONDERFUL STORIES
THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE WRITTEN.
IT'S A REALLY GREAT WAY.
AND STORIES, AS I SAID BEFORE,
CAN BE FOUND
IN ALL KINDS OF PLACES, OKAY?
BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT
STORIES CAN ALSO BE FOUND
IN MUSIC AND IN ART?
THAT'S RIGHT, BOYS AND GIRLS.
IN MUSIC AND IN ART.
MUSIC HAS A STORY BUILT INTO IT
WHEN WE HEAR THE WORDS.
OKAY, THE WORDS IN MUSIC,
OR THE LYRICS,
SOMETIMES TELL A STORY.
AND ART, WELL,
SOMETIMES PEOPLE
FEEL INSPIRED THROUGH WORDS
AND CREATE ARTWORK.
AND TODAY, BOYS AND GIRLS,
YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO DO
SOMETHING LIKE THAT TODAY.
YOU'RE GOING
TO FEEL INSPIRED A LITTLE BIT
BY LISTENING TO A SILLY,
LITTLE STORY THAT I MAKE UP.
AND, FEEL INSPIRED
TO DO SOME ARTWORK YOURSELVES.
SO, BEFORE WE GET ANY FURTHER,
AT SOME POINT
DURING THIS EPISODE,
I WANT YOU TO GO
AND GRAB SOMETHING
THAT YOU CAN WRITE WITH
AND SOMETHING
YOU CAN WRITE ON, OKAY?
SO, LIKE, A PENCIL,
A COLOURED PENCIL, A PEN,
MAYBE YOUR FAVOURITE NOTEBOOK,
OR SOME PAPER LYING AROUND
THAT YOU CAN USE.
EVEN GO INTO THE RECYCLE BIN.
IF YOU WANT, SOME CARDBOARD,
ANYTHING AT ALL.
AND YOU'RE GONNA BE USING THAT
TO FEEL INSPIRED TO DRAW SOME
ARTWORK FOR ME TODAY, OKAY?
WELL, SPEAKING OF WRITING,
AND SPEAKING OF STORIES,
I WANTED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS
EPISODE CALLED STORY WRITING DAY
TO SEE HOW THESE FRIENDS COME UP
WITH IDEAS FOR THEIR STORY.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT.
Lucas is in his twenties, with short puffy brown hair and wears jeans and an orange T-shirt.
Laura is in her twenties, with above the shoulders straight brown hair with bangs and wears jeans and a purple T-shirt.
As a song plays, Lucas and Laura walk in the woods, cross a bridge, balance on a fallen tree trunk, cross a stream, run across the city and in a park full of geese. Fast clips show them next to Greg playing and having fun in the tree fort. Greg is in his twenties, with short black hair. He wears a blue sweater.
The song says PACK UP YOUR BAGS
KISS YOUR TURTLE GOODBYE
COME UP AND CLIMB
WHERE WE CAN TOUCH THE SKY
SO MUCH TO SEE
SO MUCH TO DO
IN OUR TREE FORT
WE GOT A SHOW FOR
THAT TVOKIDS, THAT TVOKIDS
THAT TVOKIDS
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
Laura says PASSWORD PLEASE.
Lucas whispers something in Laura's ear as a caption reads "Plot."
In animation, a dialogue bubbles pop out of a map with a caption "That TVO Kids Show."
The song continues LA, LA, LA, DO, DO, DO,
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW!
Lucas and Laura stand next to a map with pictures of different characters.
Lucas and Laura say HMMMMMM.
SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT.
Laura says WE STILL DON'T KNOW THE IDENTITY
OF THE MYSTERY HOST!
Lucas says THAT'S RIGHT, BUT WE HAVE
A LOT OF SUSPECTS.
PEOPLE THAT MAYBE
COULD BE THE MYSTERY HOST.
Laura says YEAH, IT COULD BE
ANYBODY IN THE FOREST.
I MEAN, WHAT ABOUT UNSURELY?
Lucas says COULD BE UNSURELY, BUT
DO YOU THINK THAT SHE KNOWS?
Laura says SHE WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW.
Lucas says SHE'S A BIT CONFUSED.
WHAT ABOUT BIG DAN?
Laura says HE'S TOO BIG!
HE'S TOO TALL!
Lucas says WON'T FIT IN THAT CLOAK.
Laura says WELL, IT COULD BE OUR NEWS
ANCHORS, LANDON AND BRUSCHETTA.
Lucas says I THINK IT IS.
Laura says REALLY?
Lucas says THEY WERE HERE
THE DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN.
Kids say MAYBE WE CAN HELP!
Lucas and Laura say WHO SAID THAT?
Zoey and Lukas run into the studio.
Zoey is in her early teens, with long wavy brown hair and wears a mustard shirt under a dark overall. Lukas is around 11, with short straight brown hair and wears a gray and mustard shirt.
Zoey and Lukas say HEY!
Lucas says WHAT'S UP?
Laura says ZOEY AND LUKAS, HI, GUYS!
Lucas says OH, WE'RE SO STAR STRUCK!
IT'S LUKAS AND ZOEY
FROM
THE WACKY WORD SHOW.
Laura says TOTALLY.
YOU GUYS THINK YOU CAN HELP US?
They say YEAH.
Laura says WELL, I MEAN...
Zoey says OKAY, SO, WHEN WE WRITE A STORY,
WE START WITH A PROTAGONIST,
A HERO.
Hosts say OKAY.
Lukas says THEN WE FIGURE OUT
WHAT THE HERO WANTS,
AND WHAT THEY NEED TO DO,
AND GET THAT IN THE MOVIE.
Hosts say HM, OKAY.
Zoey says YEAH, SO, LIKE AN EXAMPLE.
WHY WOULD A YOUNG GIRL
WITH A PICNIC BASKET
WALK INTO
A DEEP DARK WOOD ALL ALONE?
Laura says HM, I ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW.
WELL, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE
SOMETHING PRETTY IMPORTANT
FOR HER TO DO THAT.
Lucas says YEAH,
I'M A LITTLE SCARED OF THE DARK,
SO I WOULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT
GOOD REASON, MOTIVE.
Zoey says IMPORTANT LIKE, WANTING TO HELP
HER POOR, SICK GRANDMOTHER?
Lucas says LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD DID THAT!
Laura says OF COURSE,
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD!
Hosts say OKAY.
Lukas says SEE?
YOU FIGURED IT OUT
BY WORKING BACKWARD.
Hosts say OH!
Laura says OKAY.
Zoey says SO, WHAT DID
THE MYSTERY HOST DO?
Lucas says WELL, THEY HELPED US.
Laura says A LOT, YES.
Lucas says REMEMBER WHEN LUCIUS
TRASHED THE FORT?
Laura says YES, TOTALLY!
They chuckle.
Lucas says AND THE MYSTERY HOST CLEANED IT.
Laura says THE MYSTERY HOST ALSO GOT
OUR CANDY BACK FOR US AS WELL.
Lucas says OH, YEAH, YEAH.
Laura says MM-HM.
Lukas says WELL, WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?
WHAT'S THEIR MOTIVE?
Lucas says YOU'RE RIGHT.
Zoey says SO, IF YOU FIGURE THAT OUT,
YOU'LL PROBABLY FIGURE OUT
THEIR SECRET IDENTITY.
Lucas says OKAY, THAT ACTUALLY HELPS A LOT.
Laura says HM, OKAY, THANK YOU.
YES, WE COULD TOTALLY USE THAT!
Lucas says YEAH, WE'RE GONNA FIGURE OUT
THE MYSTERY HOST'S MOTIVE.
Laura says THIS IS AMAZING.
Lucas says GOT IT.
Laura says WILL YOU GUYS STICK AROUND
AND HANG OUT WITH US
FOR THE REST OF THE DAY?
Kids say YES.
Lucas says YEAH, WE HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS
ABOUT
THE WACKY WORD SHOW,
WHICH, YOU GUYS, TVO KIDS,
IF YOU DON'T WATCH ALREADY,
YOU CAN WATCH
ON MONDAYS AT 6:00PM.
Laura says AND SATURDAYS AT 1:00PM AS WELL.
Lucas says TOTALLY.
Laura says YES.
Lucas says WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU
A
CUTE TIME OOT
VIDEO.
YOU TWO GET TO RATE IT, OKAY?
Zoey says OKAY.
Lucas says AND BE HONEST.
HERE IT COMES.
A series of pets appear with the title "Cute time oot."
A woman reads a book with a kitten on her lap.
Lucas says THIS IS A CAT, A KITTEN.
Laura says OKAY, CHECK OUT, THIS IS A CAT,
IN FACT, A KITTEN.
Zoey says THAT IS A VERY CUTE KITTEN.
Laura says A KITTEN ON A BOOK!
Lucas says A SCHOLARLY KITTEN!
Laura says BOOKS HAVE WORDS!
BOOKS HAVE WACKY WORDS.
Lucas says HE'S READING A BOOK.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS.
Zoey says OKAY, SO, IT'S VERY CUTE.
I LIKE THAT
IT'S TRYING TO LEARN.
I LIKE THAT.
Lucas says YEAH, IT'S TRYING
TO READ A BOOK.
Zoey says OKAY, YEAH, ALL RIGHT, OKAY, I'M
GOING TO RATE IT...
Lucas says OKAY.
DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH ..
Zoey says A 20 OUT OF 10.
Hosts say 20 OUT OF 10!
Laura says HUGE SCORE.
Lucas says THAT'S 200 PERCENT, OKAY.
Lukas says YEAH, THAT WAS
PRETTY CLOSE TO MY ANSWER.
MINE WAS 23 OUT OF 10.
Zoey says HE BEAT ME THERE.
Lucas says SPECIFIC, LUKAS, OKAY.
Laura says YOU GUYS LOVE THIS KITTEN.
Lucas says YEAH, THIS KITTEN
IS REALLY COOL.
Zoey says IT'S A REALLY CUTE KITTEN.
Lucas says HEY, I'D RATE IT HIGH TOO.
I'D GIVE IT A 10 OUT OF 10.
Laura says I GIVE IT A 100 OUT OF ONE!
Zoey says OH!
Lucas says THAT'S EVEN BETTER.
Zoey says THAT'S REALLY BIG.
Lucas says IT'S LIKE A THOUSAND PERCENT.
OKAY, BUT YOU'RE HERE, SO WE
WANNA TALK ABOUT...
Lucas plays the ukelele and they all sing THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW,
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW
THE WACKY WORD SHOW,
IT'S SO WACKY
Zoey sings IT'S ME ZOEY,
Lukas says I'M LUKAS
Zoey sings WE PLAY WITH WORDS
ON THE WACKY WORD SHOW
They sing WRITING'S NUMBER ONE
YEAH, WE LOVE
BOOKS AND STORIES
MAKE THAT UP,
THAT'S WHAT WE DO
IF WE MENTION WACKY WACKY,
YEAH WE DO THAT TOO
They all sing WE'VE GOT
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW
THE WACKY WORD SHOW, SO WACKY
Lucas says OH, YOU GUYS
ARE SO GOOD, EVEN LIVE!
THAT'S PERFECT.
Laura says I LOVE THAT SONG.
SO MUCH FUN.
Lucas says YEAH.
Laura says OKAY, I WANNA KNOW,
WHAT'S THE MOST
FUN PART FOR YOU GUYS?
WHAT DO YOU LOVE
ABOUT BEING ON THE SHOW?
Zoey says WELL, I LOVE THE SKITS
'CAUSE THEY'RE SUPER FUNNY.
AND WE GET TO PUT ON ACCENTS,
AND DRESS UP, AND BE CHARACTERS,
AND IT'S SUPER FUN.
Laura says YEAH, BEING CHARACTERS
IS SO MUCH FUN!
Zoey says YEAH!
Lucas says YEAH, IT'S REALLY COOL.
Laura says THAT'S AWESOME.
Lucas says SO, FOR TVO KIDS
THAT HAVEN'T WATCHED IT,
WHAT SHOULD THEY EXPECT?
Laura says YEAH!
Zoey says LOTS AND LOTS OF WACKINESS.
Lukas says AND LOTS AND LOTS OF WORDS.
Zoey says EXACTLY.
Laura says PERFECT, I LOVE IT.
Lucas says AND YOU GUYS HAVE GAMES.
YOU HAVE KIDS ON THE SHOW.
Zoey says YEP, AND SONGS AND SKITS.
Laura says AND SONGS, YES!
Zoey says SO FUN, YEAH.
Lucas says EVERY THREE MINUTES
IS LIKE ANOTHER
CRAZY THING ON THAT SHOW.
I LOVE IT; IT'S SO GOOD.
Laura says YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING.
Zoey says YEP, THANK YOU.
Laura says OKAY, THIS IS AMAZING.
WE'VE GOT A CALLER QUESTION,
WHICH MEANS IT'S...
Hosts say IT'S TIME FOR...
A loud voice shakes the studio and says WE NEED TO KNOW!
Laura says HANG TIGHT!
Lucas says IT'S BREAKING THE FORT!
Laura says THAT'S RIGHT.
WE'VE GOT A CALLER.
WE'VE GOT LAYLA ON THE LINE.
Hosts say HEY, LAYLA.
A caption reads "Layla, age 10."
Layla says HI!
Laura says HI, DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION
FOR ZOEY AND LUKAS?
Layla says I DO.
Laura says AMAZING.
WHAT IS IT?
Layla says DO YOU LIKE ACTING
AND IS IT HARD?
Laura says DO YOU LIKE ACTING
AND IS IT HARD?
Zoey says UM, YES, I LOVE ACTING.
UM, DO YOU LIKE IT?
Lukas says IT CAN BE...
I LOVE ACTING TOO.
IT CAN BE A BIT TOUGH THOUGH
DURING SOME TIMES.
Zoey says YEAH, YEAH, IT'S HARD WORK.
DEFINITELY.
Laura says YEAH.
Zoey says AND IT'S A LOT OF FUN.
Lukas says YEAH.
Lucas says SO, THERE'S
A BIG PAYOFF FOR IT, RIGHT?
SOMETIMES THE THINGS
YOU'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT
CAN BE REALLY HARD, BUT, ALSO...
Laura says YEAH, SOMETIMES IT'S GOOD
TO HAVE A NICE CHALLENGE
EVERY SO OFTEN.
Zoey says YEAH.
AND THEN YOU'RE REWARDED AFTER.
Lukas says YEAH, AND YOU ALSO GET
TO MEET A BUNCH OF NEW PEOPLE.
YOU KNOW, GO TO DIFFERENT
PLACES, HAVE SOME FUN.
Lucas says TOTALLY, THAT'S SO COOL.
OKAY, WILL YOU GUYS STICK AROUND
AND PLAY A GAME WITH US?
Zoey says OF COURSE.
Lucas says AWESOME.
WE'RE GONNA DO THAT.
BUT, TVO KIDS, JUST REMEMBER YOU
CAN WATCH
THE WACKY WORD SHOW
ON MONDAYS AT 6:00PM.
Laura says AND SATURDAYS AT 1:00PM.
IN THE MEANTIME, CHECK OUT
THIS MYTHICAL CREATURES MASHUP.
(guitar music plays)
In off, Laura says IF YOU COULD CREATE
YOUR OWN MYTHICAL CREATURE,
WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Girl 1 says HM, LET'S SEE.
Boy 1 says I WOULD WANT IT TO BE
A HALF CHEETAH, HALF MAN.
AND I'D CALL IT CHEE-MAN.
Girl 2 says A DOG MIXED WITH,
LIKE, A FERRET OR SOMETHING.
Girl 1 says THE BODY OF, LIKE, A UNICORN,
AND THE HEAD
OF A DOG THAT COULD TALK,
WITH A MAGICAL HORN,
AND THAT COMES OUT OF A LAMP.
Girl 3 says CHEETAH AND A DOG BECAUSE...
BECAUSE CHEETAHS
ARE FAST AND DOGS ARE CUTE
AND I LIKE CUTE STUFF,
AND I LIKE FAST ANIMALS.
Boy 2 says I WOULD MIX A GIANT SPIDER
AND A GIANT EYEBALL.
SO THEN... AND IT WOULD
BE MY BODYGUARD.
SO, LIKE, IF ANYBODY
WOULD COME TRY TO ATTACK ME,
IT WOULD JUST STARE AT THEM
AND THEN THEY WOULD GO AWAY.
Girl 4 says OKAY, I'D MAKE A UNICORN
PLUS A POLAR BEAR
BECAUSE THEN
I COULD SLEEP ON IT.
Boy 3 says HALF CHEETAH, HALF EAGLE.
IT CAN RUN REALLY FAST 'CAUSE
IT HAS THE LEGS OF A CHEETAH.
IT CAN FLY 'CAUSE
IT HAS WINGS LIKE AN EAGLE.
Boy 4 says AN OSTRICH
AND A...CAT.
A slate shows the Ontario bay and reads "This is not a talk show."
Lucas says WELCOME TO
THIS IS NOT A TALK SHOW.
I'M YOUR HOST, LUCAS,
AND TODAY, TVO KIDS,
YOU'RE GONNA LOVE OUR GUEST.
OUR GUEST IS SOMEONE
WE'VE NEVER MET BEFORE.
IT'S A COMMANDER AND HERO,
ALSO ASTRONAUT.
IT'S MONKEY MAN!
MONKEY MAN!
Monkey Man walks into the studio. He wears a silver suit and a monkey mask.
Monkey Man says GOOD AFTERNOON!
Lucas says HEY!
Monkey Man says HELLO, HELLO, LUCAS,
GREAT TO SEE YOU.
Lucas says YOU ARE A MONKEY MAN.
I'M NOT GONNA SHAKE YOUR HAND.
I'M JUST GONNA
LET YOU TAKE A SEAT.
YOU'RE A LITTLE
SCARY, MONKEY MAN, BUT, UM...
THANKS FOR COMING IN.
Monkey Man says THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Lucas says SO, TELL US ABOUT
ALL OF THE GOOD THINGS
YOU'VE BEEN DOING FOR THE WORLD.
YOU'RE...
Monkey Man says YES, SO I CREATED THE BANANA.
Laurel comes in. She wears a curly blond wig, glasses, a black and purple outfit and a purple band.
Laurel says OUT OF HERE, MONKEY MAN!
THIS IS MY INTERVIEW NOW.
Monkey Man says WHY, I NEVER!
Monkey Man runs away.
Laurel says THAT'S RIGHT; HEAD BACK
TO YOUR SPACE PLANET.
GOODBYE AND THANK YOU.
MAKE ROOM FOR THE MAYOR.
Lucas says LAUREL, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?
YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED
TO COME ON
TALK SHOW.
Laurel says WHAT?
Lucas says NO, WE USUALLY
HAVE OTHER GUESTS.
WE DON'T WANT TO TALK
TO YOU ON THE TALK SHOW.
Laurel says WELL, THAT GUEST HAS BEEN BUMPED
AND NOW THIS IS ABOUT ME.
SO, GET ASKING
YOUR QUESTIONS, HA!
Lucas says OKAY, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
IS MY FIRST QUESTION.
Laurel says WELL, OF COURSE, I'M HERE
TO PROMOTE THE HEROIC CAPTURE
OF THAT AWFUL MYSTERY HOST.
Lucas says I KNOW, WE HEARD THAT YOU
CAPTURED THE MYSTERY HOST.
Laurel says THAT'S RIGHT!
THE MYSTERY HOST
HAS BEEN CAPTURED.
Lucas says UH-HUH.
Laurel says AND SENT TO FOREST JAIL!
Lucas says OKAY, SO WHAT, ACTUALLY, OUR
VIEWERS REALLY WANNA KNOW IS:
"WHO IS THE MYSTERY HOST?
WHAT IS THEIR IDENTITY?"
WERE YOU...
Laurel says TO YOU, I LAUGH!
BECAUSE, I DON'T KNOW THE
IDENTITY OF THE MYSTERY HOST.
Lucas says WELL, WHY DIDN'T YOU...
Laurel says AND I DON'T WANT TO KNOW.
AND YOU WON'T KNOW, AND I WON'T
KNOW, AND NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW.
THEY'LL GO TO FOREST JAIL
AND THAT'S THAT.
Lucas says WELL, HERE'S THE THING, LAUREL.
I DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW IF IT'S
GREAT THAT THEY GO TO JAIL.
I THINK THAT THE MYSTERY HOST
SHOULD HAVE A FAIR TRIAL.
Laurel says HM.
Lucas says WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?
Laurel says TRIAL YOU SAY?
Lucas says I SAY TRIAL.
Laurel says LIKE A COURT TRIAL?
Lucas says LIKE A COURT, YEAH.
Laurel says WITH A JUDGE?
Lucas says YES, EXACTLY.
Laurel says AH!
Lucas says AND I'LL REPRESENT
THE MYSTERY HOST, AND...
Laurel says ACTUALLY, THAT SOUNDS
QUITE DELIGHTFUL.
AND IT WOULD MAKE
LUCIUS AND I EVEN MORE FAMOUS!
Lucas says WELL, ACTUALLY, IT WAS MY IDEA.
Laurel says AND, IT WOULD BE
EVEN MORE EMBARRASSING
FOR THE MYSTERY HOST ONCE
THEY'RE PRONOUNCED GUILTY
IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY.
Lucas says I THINK THEY'LL
ACTUALLY BE INNOCENT, 'CAUSE...
Laurel says WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA.
I HAD HERE TODAY!
Lucas says IT WAS MY IDEA, LAUREL!
Laurel says THERE WILL BE A TRIAL.
AND IT'LL BE HELD
THIS TUESDAY IN TREE FORT COURT.
Lucas says WHERE ARE WE...
IN THE TREE FORT?
Laurel says IN TREE FORT COURT!
Lucas says HEY, I DIDN'T SIGN UP
FOR TREE FORT COURT.
Laurel says THIS TUESDAY, THE OFFICIAL TRIAL
OF THE MYSTERY HOST.
Lucas says OH, MAN.
WHERE'S LAURA?
Laurel says MY FACE WILL BE ALL OVER IT!
Lucas says NO, WE'RE NOT...
Laurel says I'M FAMOUS!
I'M THE MAYOR.
Lucas says LAUREL, OKAY, HERE'S...
WE GOTTA ASK YOU TO LEAVE.
I'M SO SORRY.
IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE.
Laurel says OH, NOBODY ASKS...
Lucas says A COMPLETE PLEASURE HAVING YOU.
Laurel says EXCUSE ME.
NOBODY ASKS THE MYSTERY HOST
TO DO ANYTHING, OR THE MAYOR.
Lucas laughs.
Laurel says I'M THE MAYOR
AND I DECIDE TO LEAVE MYSELF.
GOODBYE.
Lucas says WELL, LAUREL, OKAY...
Laurel says GOODBYE!
Lucas says OKAY, WELL, JUST...
Laurel says SEE YOU!
Lucas says WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT...
OKAY.
OH, BROTHER.
TVO KIDS, THAT WAS
THIS IS NOT A TALK SHOW.
MAYBE WE'LL TALK
TO THAT MONKEY ANOTHER TIME.
STICK AROUND.
A Male Announcer says IT'S TIME FOR A TVO KIDS
SUPER CITIZENS AWARD!
AND THE SUPER TERRIFIC
AND ROCKING AWARD
GOES TO SHREYA.
The caption changes to "Shreya. Book author." Shreya is around 10 years old. She has shoulder-length black hair, and wears glasses and a pink T-shirt with a white horse.
Shreya says MY NAME IS SHREYA AND I WROTE
A BOOK OF SHORT STORIES
AND I DONATED THE PROCEEDS
TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL.
The Male Announcer says SHREYA WANTED TO WRITE
A CHAPTER BOOK. BUT, WITH SO MANY IDEAS
FOR DIFFERENT STORIES, SHREYA CREATED
SHORT STORIES FOR CHILDREN.
Shreya says SOME OF THE STORIES
ARE ABOUT THINGS
THAT REALLY HAPPENED TO ME,
AND SOME OF THEM
ARE JUST IDEAS I GET.
LIKE, OUR BIRD USED
TO ALWAYS ESCAPE FROM HER CAGE.
SO, I PUT IN
DIFFERENT CHARACTERS,
AND WE MADE IT INTO A STORY,
AND CALLED IT
SNOWY ESCAPES.
USUALLY I WRITE THE STORY FIRST
AND THEN I DRAW A PICTURE
TO GO ALONG WITH IT.
The Male Announcer says SHREYA DONATED
ALL THE MONEY FROM
HER BOOK TO THE SICK KIDS FOUNDATION.
Shreya says WHEN I WAS WRITING MY STORIES,
I WAS HAVING A LOT OF FUN
AND I THOUGHT THAT
THE KIDS IN THE HOSPITAL
WEREN'T HAVING AS MUCH FUN.
BUT THEN, I REALIZED
THAT IF I DONATED
THE MONEY TO THE HOSPITAL,
THEY CAN GET OUT A WHOLE LOT
FASTER TO DO THE THINGS
THAT I ENJOY DOING ALSO.
The Male Announcer says SHREYA'S BOOK
CAN BE FOUND IN SOME LIBRARIES,
SICK KIDS PLAYROOM AND SOLD ONLINE.
A picture shows Shreya holding a large check.
Shreya says I RAISED 500 DOLLARS
FOR SICK KIDS HOSPITAL.
I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE
REALLY EASY TO WRITE A BOOK,
BUT, I LEARNED THAT
YOU HAVE TO WORK REALLY HARD
AND BE PASSIONATE
AND NEVER GIVE UP.
SOMETIMES
I GOT REALLY FRUSTRATED
BECAUSE I WAS
RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS.
BUT I KEPT ON GOING.
WHEN YOU WRITE A STORY
AND SOMEONE READS IT,
IT PUTS A SMILE ON THEIR FACE,
AND YOU FEEL GOOD
TO KNOW THAT YOU DID THAT.
IT'S IMPORTANT
TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY
BECAUSE IT FEELS REALLY GOOD
TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Shreya smiles and shows a star award.
The Announcer says CONGRATULATIONS!
YOU ARE A TRUE SUPER CITIZEN!
Back in the studio, Lucas says OH, WE'RE WATCHING.
Laura says GAME TIME!
Lucas says OKAY, OKAY.
Laura says THAT'S RIGHT!
Lucas says BRING IT ON.
Laura says US AGAINST YOU!
Lucas says YEAH, WE MADE THIS GAME
UP FOR YOU GUYS.
IT'S CALLED FICTIONARY.
Laura says THAT'S TRUE.
THE NAME OF THE GAME
IS FICTIONARY.
THE WAY IT WORKS?
WE WILL READ A WORD
AND TWO DEFINITIONS.
ONE IS TRUE.
ONE IS NOT.
Lucas says ARE YOU READY?
Zoey says YES, WE'RE READY.
Lucas says OKAY.
ALL RIGHT.
THE BRAINS ARE READY.
FIRST QUESTION.
He reads OKAY, "CACOPHONY" IS THE WORD.
IS THIS A MIXTURE
OF HORRIBLE SOUNDS,
OR A BROKEN MUSICAL INSTRUMENT?
DISCUSS.
Zoey says IT SOUNDS LIKE A MIXTURE
OF HORRIBLE SOUNDS.
Lukas says YEAH, IT SOUNDS
LIKE A HORRIBLE SOUND.
Zoey says IT'S...LET'S SAY A MIXTURE
OF HORRIBLE SOUNDS.
Lucas says THEY'RE IN AGREEMENT, ALL RIGHT.
Laura says FINAL ANSWER.
Lucas says ALL RIGHT, HORRIBLE SOUNDS.
YOU'RE RIGHT.
YOU'RE RIGHT, YEP.
Kids say YES!
Laura says OKAY, WE'RE DOWN ONE.
WE'RE DOWN ONE.
Lucas says WE'RE GONNA BRING IT, OKAY.
Zoey says OKAY, OKAY, READY?
Laura says LET'S GO.
Zoey says ALL RIGHT, "HALIBALO."
Laura says HALI-WHAT?
Zoey reads IS IT A REALLY BIG SHIP, OR,
LOUD NOISES AND SHOUTING THAT
PEOPLE MAKE WHEN THEY ARE ANGRY?
Hosts yell HULLABALOO!
Lucas yells HULLABALOO!
Laura says I FEEL LIKE IT'S HULLABALOO.
Lucas says DO YOU?
Laura says 'CAUSE, 'CAUSE, YOU KNOW WHEN
YOU'RE MAD
AND YOU "HULLABALOO!"
Lucas says AH!
REALLY LOUD NOISES.
Zoey says REALLY LOUD?
THAT'S CORRECT.
Hosts yell YEAH!
Zoey says YOU GOT IT RIGHT!
Laura yells HULLABALOO!
Lucas says WE ARE THE DICTIONARY
AND SO ARE YOU GUYS.
OKAY, READY?
YOU DO THAT ONE.
Laura says OKAY, OKAY, UM, "KERFUFFLE."
A BUNCH OF FEATHERS,
OR TO MAKE A FUSS?
DISCUSS.
Lukas says I THINK IT'S TO MAKE A FUSS.
Zoey says KERFUFFLE.
KERFUFFLE!
YEAH, YOU KNOW WHAT?
IT WOULD BE.
YES, I WOULD SAY THAT IF I...
Lucas says TO MAKE A FUSS?
Laura says TO MAKE A FUSS.
Zoey says KERFUFFLE!
Laura says CORRECT!
Lucas says HEY!
Kids say YES!
Lucas says OKAY.
Zoey says THAT'S ANOTHER ONE.
Lucas says OKAY, ALL RIGHT.
YOU GUYS ARE BRINGING IT.
YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR STUFF.
Zoey says WE'RE READY TO GO.
Lukas reads "BIBBLE."
Lucas says BIBBLE?
Lukas says THE WORD "BIBBLE."
TO DRINK OFTEN,
OR A VERY SHORT CONVERSATION?
Zoey says OOH!
Laura says HUH?
Lucas says HEY.
Laura says BIBBLE!
Lucas says DID WE JUST HAVE A BIBBLE?
Laura says BIBBLE, BIBBLE.
Lucas says BIBBLE.
DO YOU THINK
IT'S A SHORT CONVERSATION?
Laura says I THINK MAYBE.
Lucas says OKAY!
Laura says LET'S GO WITH THAT.
OKAY, SHORT CONVERSATION.
Lukas says THE CORRECT ANSWER
IS "TO DRINK OFTEN."
Hosts say OHHHHH!
Zoey says YES!
SO CLOSE!
Lucas says OKAY, ONE MORE FOR FUN.
BONUS QUESTION.
"RAGAMUFFIN."
DIRTY BREAKFAST FOOD,
OR A PERSON WHO WEARS
DIRTY AND SCRUFFY CLOTHES?
HM.
Zoey says LUKAS, YOU'RE A RAGAMUFFIN.
Lucas says HEY.
Lukas says OH, NO!
I'M A RAGAMUFFIN.
Zoey says YOU KNOW WHAT?
YEP, I'M GONNA SAY...
Laura says SCRUFFY?
Zoey says YEP, SCRUFFY.
Lucas says SCRUFFY, YOU'RE RIGHT, OKAY.
Kids say YES!
Lucas says YOU'RE THE WINNERS.
HIGH-FIVES!
Laura says SCRUFFY CLOTHES, AMAZING!
YOU GUYS KNOW YOUR WACKY WORDS.
Zoey says THANK YOU!
Lukas says YES, WE DO KNOW
OUR WACKY, WACKY WORDS.
Lucas says YES, TVO KIDS, WATCH
THE WACKY WACKY WORD SHOW.
IT'S SO GREAT.
AND, TUNE IN WITH US.
WE HAVE A BULLY EXPERT
COMING IN ON MONDAY.
SO, E-MAIL YOUR QUESTIONS
TO TVOKIDS@TVO.ORG.
Laura says ABSOLUTELY, AND ALSO SEND US
YOUR BIRTHDAYS AS WELL.
DO YOU GUYS HAVE
BIRTHDAYS COMING UP?
Kids say NO.
The caption changes to "Call us at 1-888-886-5437."
Zoey says BUT...
NO.
Lucas says NO, OKAY.
Laura says FAIR ENOUGH.
IN A COUPLE MONTHS.
Lukas says YEAH.
Lucas says WE GOTTA SAY GOODBYE.
Laura says ABSOLUTELY.
Laura says ALL RIGHT, LET'S HIT IT.
Laura plays the ukelele and they all sing SO LONG,
SEE YA LATER
I BET TOMORROW
WILL EVEN BE GREATER
BUT NOW IT'S TIME
TO SAY GOODBYE TO YOU
Lucas says AND YOU, 'CAUSE YOU GUYS ARE
TOO GOOD AT GAMES, JUST KIDDING.
They sing SO LONG,
SAYONARA
CLUE!
Kids say LEND A HAND
They sing IS THE PASSWORD FOR TOMORROW
BUT NOW, IT'S TIME
TO SAY GOODBYE TO YOU.
Lucas says THAT'S RIGHT.
I'M LUCAS.
MAKE SOME MAGIC.
Laura says I'M LAURA.
BE TRUE TO YOU.
Lukas says I'M LUKAS.
Zoey says I'M ZOEY.
They say FROM
THE WACKY WORD SHOW.
Lucas says AH, SO WACKY!
SEE YOU LATER, TVO KIDS.
(music plays)
A caption reads "Copyright 2019, The Ontario Educational Communications Authority."
Robert says WELL, I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THAT.
I KNOW I SURE DID!
I REALLY ENJOYED THAT.
UM, AS I MENTIONED EARLIER
ABOUT MY CHILDREN
AND THEIR BEDTIME STORIES,
AND HOW THEY DON'T LIKE TO SLEEP
WITHOUT A BEDTIME STORY,
ESPECIALLY THE ONES
I'VE MADE UP ON THE SPOT.
I'VE ALSO MENTIONED THAT
IT TAKES A LOT OF IMAGINATION,
AND A BIG IDEA,
AND CREATIVITY TO DO THAT.
BOYS AND GIRLS, OUR IMAGINATIONS
ARE POWERFUL TOOLS, OKAY.
AND THEY'RE SO POWERFUL THAT WE
CAN US THEM TO CREATE
WONDERFUL STORIES OURSELVES.
AND IT'S FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY.
SO WHEN WE'RE TELLING STORIES,
MAKE SURE YOU SHARE YOUR STORIES
WITH OTHER PEOPLE, THAT'S WHAT
MAKES STORY TELLING
SUCH A GREAT THING, OKAY.
AND WHEN YOU GET OLDER, AND
START DOING SOME MORE WRITING,
THAT'S WHEN SHARING YOUR STORIES
THROUGH WRITING
BECOMES SUCH A WONDERFUL TOOL
AS WELL.
UH, WHEN YOU THINK OF STORIES,
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE PIECES
THAT YOU THINK MAKE UP
A GOOD STORY?
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT
MAKE UP A GREAT STORY,
BOYS AND GIRLS?
WELL, I THINK OF THE CHARACTERS.
THE PEOPLE, OR THE THINGS,
OR THE ANIMALS.
UM, AND WHAT THESE CHARACTERS
LOOK LIKE.
WHAT KIND OF PERSONALITIES
THEY MIGHT HAVE.
ARE THEY QUIET, ARE THEY LOUD?
ARE THEY BOSSY, ARE THEY MEAN?
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS
THEY LIKE TO DO?
CHARACTERS CAN BE ANYTHING
TO ANYONE, OKAY?
ANYTHING YOU WANT TO CREATE
WITH YOUR WONDERFUL IMAGINATION.
THEY CAN BE ANYTHING THAT
YOU DECIDE YOU WANT THEM TO BE.
ONE OF MY CHILDREN'S FAVOURITE
CHARACTERS THAT I MADE UP
IS NAMED MR. PICKLES.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT,
MR. PICKLES IS ONE OF THEIR
FAVOURITES.
AND YOU GUESSED IT,
MR. PICKLES IS A PICKLE.
HE IS A PICKLE.
SO YOU CAN JUST IMAGINE WHAT A
LIVING, BREATHING PICKLE
MIGHT LOOK LIKE.
WHY DON'T I TELL YOU ONE OF THE
MR. PICKLE STORIES RIGHT NOW,
AND YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN
IMAGINATION TO DRAW
WHAT YOU THINK MR. PICKLES
MIGHT LOOK LIKE.
SO I'M GONNA TELL YOU THE
MR. PICKLES STORY,
AND WHILE I'M TELLING YOU
THE STORY,
WHY DON'T YOU, WITH YOUR
PENCIL OR PEN,
OR COLOURED PENCIL AND
YOUR PAPER,
OR WHATEVER IT IS YOU'VE DECIDED
TO DRAW ON TODAY,
DRAW OUT WHAT YOU THINK
MR. PICKLES MIGHT LOOK LIKE.
SO, NOW REMEMBER, THESE ARE
REALLY SILLY STORIES.
ONCE UPON A TIME,
THERE WAS A PICKLE.
AND IT WASN'T JUST AN
ORDINARY PICKLE.
THIS PICKLE HAD A NAME.
HIS NAME WAS MR. PICKLES.
AND MR. PICKLES WORE A SUIT.
AND HE HAD FEET AND ARMS.
AND HE WALKED AROUND.
NOW SOMETIMES HIS SUIT WAS
KIND OF TICKLY,
SO HE WAS ALWAYS SMILING AND
LAUGHING A LITTLE BIT.
AND SO HE WAS ALWAYS A VERY
HAPPY PICKLE.
NOW, MR. PICKLES ONE DAY DECIDED
THAT HE HAD TO GO
TO THE GROCERY STORE,
AND HE DECIDED HE WOULD GO
WALKING TO THE GROCERY STORE
SO HE WALKED DOWN HIS
NEIGHBOURHOOD,
AND HE ENTERED
THE GROCERY STORE,
AND HE JUST SO HAPPENED TO
DECIDE TO GO DOWN THE AISLE
WHERE THE JARS OF PICKLES AND
OLIVES AND OTHER THINGS
KEPT IN JARS WERE UP HIGH
ON THE SHELVES.
WELL, AS HE WAS COMING DOWN
THE AISLE,
SOMEBODY ACCIDENTALLY KNOCKED
DOWN A JAR OF...
YOU GUESSED IT. PICKLES.
AND A BIG JAR OF PICKLES CAME
TUMBLING DOWN
AND SHATTERED ALL OVER
THE FLOOR.
AND THERE WERE A WHOLE BUNCH OF
PICKLES LAYING ON THE GROUND.
AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF GLASS
LAYING EVERYWHERE.
MR. PICKLES STOOD BACK.
HE WAS IN SHOCK.
'CAUSE IT KIND OF ALMOST
HIT HIM.
AND EVERYBODY STARED DOWN
AT THE PICKLES.
AND THEN THEY LOOKED OVER
AT MR. PICKLES.
NOW USUALLY MR. PICKLES
DOESN'T MIND
THAT OTHER PEOPLE LOOK AT HIM.
IN FACT, HE KINDA DOESN'T...
IT KIND OF DOESN'T BOTHER
HIM AT ALL,
'CAUSE HE KNOWS HE IS AN USUAL
PICKLE, RIGHT?
HE ACTUALLY PRETENDS THAT
HE'S KIND OF FAMOUS
AND THAT'S WHY PEOPLE
LOOK AT HIM.
BUT HE WAS KIND OF GETTING A
LITTLE BIT WORRIED
BECAUSE HERE'S THIS BIG THING
OF BROKEN PICKLES
LAYING ON THE FLOOR,
AND IT'S EVERYWHERE.
A BUNCH OF BROKEN GLASS,
A BUNCH OF PICKLES, AND HIM,
IN HIS SUIT,
STANDING RIGHT THERE.
AND BEFORE HE KNEW ABOUT IT,
BEFORE HE CAN EVEN REACT,
THERE WAS SOMEBODY WITH A BIG
MOP AND A BIG PAIL,
COMING UP BEHIND HIM, READY TO
PUSH HIM INTO THE MESS
AND MOP HIM BACK INTO
THIS BUCKET.
SO WITH ALL OF HIS SPEED
AND EVERY OUNCE OF POWER HE HAD
INSIDE OF HIS LITTLE LEGS,
HE RAN AS FAST AS HE COULD.
BUT BEING A LITTLE TINY PICKLE,
HE BARELY GOT AWAY.
THE MOP WENT IN FRONT OF HIM,
IT ALMOST TRAPPED HIM.
HE WENT SIDEWAYS TO GET
OUT OF THE WAY.
HE'S PRETTY AGILE.
HE WENT BACK AND FORTH AND
BACK AND FORTH.
AND HE FINALLY GOT OUT OF
THE WAY OF THE MOP.
AND AS PEOPLE WERE STARING,
THEY WERE LOOKING DOWN THE AISLE
AND THEY WONDERED IF ONE OF THE
PICKLES JUST FELL LOOSE
OF THE MOP, SO THEY WERE
STARING AT HIM.
AND INSTEAD OF BEING FLATTERED
THAT THEY WERE STARING AT HIM,
MR. PICKLES KINDA GOT A
LITTLE BIT SCARED,
AND HE DECIDED THAT MAYBE
HE SHOULD JUST
LEAVE THE STORE ALL TOGETHER.
TODAY WAS NOT A GOOD DAY TO
GO GROCERY SHOPPING.
SO MR. PICKLES DECIDED,
"I'M LEAVING THE STORE."
SO HE WAS WALKING AS FAST
AS HE COULD,
HE DIDN'T WANT TO RUN ANYMORE TO
BRING MORE ATTENTION TO HIM.
AND AS HE WAS WALKING AS FAST
AS HE COULD,
HE WENT PAST THE FRUIT SECTION
OF THE STORE.
AND PAST THE FRUIT SECTION,
AS HE GOT TOWARDS
THE VEGETABLE SECTION,
HE HEARD A STRANGE SOUND.
AND THIS SOUND...
WAS KIND OF A WEIRD,
MUFFLED SOUND.
AND IT KIND OF SOUNDED LIKE...
(moaning softly)
AND MR. PICKLES STOPPED
AND LOOKED.
AND HE THOUGHT,
"THAT'S A STRANGE NOISE.
"WHY WOULD THERE BE A NOISE
LIKE THAT
"COMING FROM A BUNCH OF
VEGETABLES?"
AND SO HE STOPPED
AND EVEN THOUGH HE THOUGHT
HE WAS IN DANGER,
HE DECIDED THAT IT WAS A...
THAT HE WASN'T GOING TO LEAVE
RIGHT AWAY,
THAT HE WAS GOING TO INVESTIGATE
WHY THERE WERE SOME SOUNDS
COMING FROM THE VEGETABLES.
SO HE CLIMBED UP, ALL THE WAY UP
TO THE VEGETABLE STAND,
AND HE WAS LISTENING,
AND HE HEARD THE SOUND AGAIN.
AND HE HEARD THAT IT WAS COMING
FROM A BIG STACK OF VEGETABLES.
SO HE STARTED MOVING SOME
CARROTS OUT OF THE WAY.
AND THEN HE STARTED MOVING SOME
CORN OUT OF THE WAY.
AND HE MOVED SOME OTHER
VEGETABLES OUT OF THE WAY,
AND THEN HE SAW A BIG, BIG
STACK OF CELERY.
AND THEN HE HEARD SOMEBODY
TALKING.
"CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME HELP?"
AND MR. PICKLES SAID,
"IS THERE SOMEBODY THERE?"
"CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME HELP?"
AND MR. PICKLES PUSHED SOME
OF THE CELERY ASIDE,
AND THERE,
RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM,
WAS A LIVING, BREATHING,
PIECE OF CELERY.
AND HE SAID, "HELLO, MY NAME IS
MR. PICKLES.
"WHAT'S YOUR NAME?"
AND HE SAID,
"MY NAME IS MR. CELERY."
AND THEY BOTH SHOOK HANDS AND
THEY SAID, "NICE TO MEET YOU."
AT THE SAME TIME.
AND MR. PICKLES SAID,
"I DON'T MEAN TO BE RUDE,
"BUT I KIND OF NEED TO LEAVE
THE STORE RIGHT NOW,
"BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE
IT'S NOT VERY SAFE
"FOR ME TO BE HERE RIGHT NOW."
"AND I KIND OF...
IF I COULD GIVE YOU
"A LITTLE BIT OF ADVICE,
"I THINK MAYBE IT'S NOT SAFE FOR
YOU TO BE HERE RIGHT NOW."
AND MR. CELERY SAID,
"OH, WHY NOT?"
AND HE SAID, "WELL, SOMEBODY
MIGHT BUY YOU
"AND PUT YOU IN A SALAD,
OR PUT YOU IN A STIR-FRY
"OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT."
MR. CELERY, HIS EYES WENT REALLY
BIG AND BRIGHT.
"I DIDN'T EVEN THINK
ABOUT THAT!"
HE SAID, "WOULD YOU LIKE
TO JOIN ME?"
AND HE SAID, "CAN YOU HELP ME
GET OUT OF HERE?"
AND THEY HELD EACH OTHER'S HANDS
AND THEY JUMPED DOWN
OFF THE VEGETABLE STAND,
AND THEY WENT RIGHT OUT THE
STORE TOGETHER.
AND EVER SINCE THEN,
THEY'VE BEEN BEST FRIENDS.
THE END.
NOW THAT'S WHEN MR. PICKLES
MET MR. CELERY.
THAT IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE
STORIES...
I SHOULD SAY, IT'S ONE OF MY
CHILDREN'S FAVOURITE STORIES.
UM, AND AGAIN, IT'S...
IT'S ONE OF THE ONES THAT I MAKE
UP AT THE TOP OF MY HEAD
AS WE GO ALONG, AND IT'S HELPED
THEM GO TO SLEEP.
SO I WANTED TO ASK YOU,
HOW DID YOU DO WITH
YOUR MR. PICKLES PICTURES?
WERE YOU DRAWING AS I WAS
TELLING THE STORY?
I'M SURE THEY ALL LOOK AMAZING,
BOYS AND GIRLS.
UM, NOW,
I WANTED TO ASK YOU
A LITTLE BIT
ABOUT YOUR PICTURES,
BUT BEFORE I DO THAT,
YOU'VE PROBABLY BEEN SITTING
AROUND A LITTLE BIT,
AND YOU'VE PROBABLY BEEN
DRAWING A LITTLE BIT,
AND IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME FOR
YOU TO SIT AND DRAW.
AND I'M WONDERING IF MAYBE YOU
WANTED TO MOVE AROUND
A LITTLE BIT AND HAVE A LITTLE
BIT OF A BODY BREAK.
SO I'M WONDERING IF YOU WANTED
TO DO THAT RIGHT NOW.
WE CAN HAVE A LITTLE BIT
OF A BODY BREAK.
SO EVERYBODY STAND UP
REAL QUICK.
EVERYBODY STAND UP.
THIS WON'T TAKE LONG.
EVERYBODY STRETCH THEIR ARMS UP
REALLY, REALLY HIGH.
JUST GET THEMSELVES READY, OKAY?
AND WE'RE GOING TO PLAY
A LITTLE GAME.
AND IT'S...
IT'S A FUN LITTLE GAME
BECAUSE AFTER YOU STRETCH YOUR
BODY UP REALLY, REALLY HIGH,
YOU PUT YOUR ARMS DOWN AND
SHAKE IT ALL OUT,
AND IF YOU LIKE ICE CREAM...
IF YOU LIKE ICE CREAM,
I'M GONNA ASK YOU TO JUMP
ON ONE FOOT.
SO JUST HOP AROUND ON
ONE FOOT, OKAY?
SO THAT'S IF YOU LIKE ICE CREAM,
OKAY?
OKAY, AND IF YOU LIKE...
BUBBLEGUM, THEN DO SOME
JUMPING JACKS.
SO MY ICE CREAM PEOPLE,
YOU JUMP ON ONE FOOT,
AND MY BUBBLEGUM PEOPLE,
YOU DO SOME JUMPING JACKS.
GO AHEAD.
I'M SURE YOU'RE DOING
A GREAT JOB.
ALL RIGHT, LET'S CHANGE IT UP.
LET'S CHANGE IT UP.
NOW IF YOU LIKE, UH, SOME PIZZA,
SO IF YOU LIKE PIZZA,
I WANT YOU TO HOP AROUND
LIKE A BUNNY.
SO TWO FEET, LIKE A BUNNY, OKAY?
BUT IF YOU LIKE HAMBURGERS,
I WANT YOU TO BALANCE
ON ONE FOOT.
I WANT YOU TO BALANCE.
TEST OUT YOUR BALANCE
ON ONE FOOT.
SO IF YOU LIKE HAMBURGERS,
YOU'RE GONNA BALANCE
ON ONE FOOT,
AND IF YOU LIKE PIZZA,
I'M GOING TO ASK YOU TO HOP
AROUND LIKE A BUNNY.
GO AHEAD, GIVE THAT A TRY.
YES, GOOD!
SEE, ISN'T IT NICE
JUST TO MOVE AROUND
A LITTLE BIT?
GOT THOSE BODIES-- GET THOSE
BODIES MOVING A LITTLE BIT,
MAYBE WAKE UP THOSE MUSCLES,
THOSE BONES.
OKAY, AND NOTICE THAT
THE GAME HAD US USING A LITTLE
BIT OF OUR IMAGINATIONS.
WE WERE TALKING ABOUT EATING
CERTAIN FOODS
AS WE WERE MOVING AROUND,
EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE
ANY PIZZA FOR YOU.
OR ICE CREAM FOR YOU,
OR BUBBLEGUM FOR YOU.
SORRY ABOUT THAT,
WE COULD HAVE IMAGINED THAT WE
HAD THOSE THINGS.
OKAY, SPEAKING OF "IMAGINE,"
I WONDER WHAT OUR FRIENDS AT
CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT
THINK ABOUT STORIES, WRITING,
AND IMAGINATION.
WELL, LET'S TAKE A LOOK
TOGETHER, SHALL WE?
Ella is around 10 years old. She has dark brown hair and wears a purple T-shirt.
In a clip, Ella says HI, I'M ELLA! IF I COULD BE
ANYTHING, I WOULD BE A WRITER!
A song plays as an animation shows kids imagining different professions.
It goes IMAGINE, IMAGINE
IMAGINE POWERFUL
IMAGINE COMICAL
IMAGINE MAGICAL
CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT
Ella says HI, I'M ELLA!
IF I COULD BE ANYTHING,
I WOULD BE A WRITER.
A WRITER, OR AUTHOR,
IS SOMEONE WHO WRITES STORIES.
A WRITER COULD WRITE
FOR MAGAZINES OR NEWSPAPERS.
OR EVEN WRITE PLAYS OR MOVIES!
BEING A WRITER WOULD BE
LOTS OF FUN.
I LOVE BEING CREATIVE.
I WOULD GET ALL COMFORTABLE
IN MY CHAIR.
THEN I'LL START WRITING.
AS A WRITER, I WOULD WRITE ABOUT
ANYTHING I COULD IMAGINE.
I COULD CREATE AMAZING
CHARACTERS.
THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE OR
CREATURES
THAT MY STORY IS ABOUT.
SOME WOULD BE ADVENTUROUS!
ADVENTURE STORIES HAVE
LOTS OF ACTION.
Cartoons recreate Ella's stories.
She continues MY ADVENTURE WOULD BE
ABOUT A BRAVE GIRL
WHO SAVES THE CITY FROM A BIG
PURPLE MONSTER!
AND SOME OF MY STORIES WOULD
BE MYSTERIES.
LIKE WHO STOLE THE MONEY FROM
THE PIGGY BANK?!
MYSTERIES HAVE DETECTIVES IN
THEM WHO LOOK FOR CLUES
AND STUDY ALL THE CHARACTERS
IN THE STORY
TO SOLVE THE MYSTERY.
DUN-DUN-DUN
AH-HAH! IT WAS YOU, DOGGIE!
IT WAS YOU, DOGGIE,
WHO ROBBED THE PIGGY BANK!
(siren wailing)
AS A WRITER, MY STORIES COULD
TAKE PLACE ANYWHERE,
LIKE OUTER SPACE.
ZOOM! ZOOM!
MY FAVOURITE KIND OF STORY TO
WRITE WOULD BE SCIENCE FICTION.
I WOULD IMAGINE WHAT THINGS
WOULD BE LIKE
AND WHAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT
IN THE FUTURE.
MAYBE INSTEAD OF WALKING
TO SCHOOL,
WE COULD ALL TAKE A SPACESHIP.
AND OUR CLASSROOM WOULD BE
ON THE MOON!
I WOULD MAKE UP FUNNY CHARACTERS
IN MY STORIES.
THERE WILL BE A DENTIST
NAMED EMILY.
SHE WILL LIVE ON A PINK PLANET
WITH HER PINK DOG, MOLAR.
IN THIS STORY, A BABY ALIEN
HAS A STAR STUCK
IN HIS BIG, PINK TEETH.
ALIENS LIKE TO EAT STARS.
OH, AND CHEESE.
EMILY WILL USE HER DENTIST TOOLS
TO GET THE STAR OUT.
THE DENTIST WILL REMIND THE BABY
ALIEN TO FLOSS EVERY DAY.
THE BABY ALIEN WILL BE SO HAPPY!
SOMETIMES AS A WRITER,
IT'S HARD TO COME UP WITH
LOTS OF UNIQUE IDEAS
FOR A STORY.
SO WHEN I HAVE TROUBLE,
I DO MY CRAZY DANCE
TO LOOSEN UP ALL MY IDEAS.
I WOULD WRITE A FANTASY STORY.
IT WOULD BE ABOUT A MAGICAL
CATERPILLAR NAMED MOLLY.
MOLLY SEARCHES THE WORLD
FOR A GOLDEN GRASSHOPPER
WHO WAS LOST BY AN EVIL QUEEN.
AS A WRITER, IT'S IMPORTANT
TO HAVE A GOOD PLOT.
THAT'S THE BEGINNING, MIDDLE
AND END OF MY STORY.
WHEN MOLLY THE CATERPILLAR
FINDS THE GOLDEN GRASSHOPPER,
IT LEADS TO THE WILLOW FIELDS.
MOLLY BREAKS
THE EVIL QUEEN'S SPELL.
IN RETURN,
MOLLY THE CATERPILLAR TURNS INTO
A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY.
THE END.
MY STORY WOULD BE
IN ALL THE BOOKSTORES
AND LIBRARIES,
SO EVERYONE COULD READ THEM.
I LOVE BEING A WRITER.
A song says CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING ANYTHING
YOU WANT TO BE
CAN YOU IMAGINE THERE'S
A WORLD FULL OF FANTASY
AND IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT LOTS
IT BECOMES SO REAL
DID YOU KNOW, DID YOU KNOW
DID YOU KNOW
THAT YOU CAN DO ANYTHING
YOU WANT TO DO
IMAGINE THIS OR THAT
THINK OF SOMETHING NEW
AND YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE
A THING OR TWO
ANYTHING YOU WANT
IT'S REALLY UP TO YOU
BA-BA-BA-BA
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-BA BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-BA
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-BA BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
BA-BA-DUP-BA-DUP
CAN YOU IMAGINE
THAT
Ella says I'M ELLA, AND I AM A WRITER.
IMAGINE THAT!
The end credits roll.
Robert says WELL, THAT WAS GREAT,
BOYS AND GIRLS.
I REALLY ENJOYED THAT
"CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT" EPISODE.
UH, I WANTED TO SHOW YOU
SOME PICTURES.
I KNOW THAT YOU WERE DRAWING
SOME PICTURES OF MR. PICKLES,
AND I HOPE YOU WERE
ENJOYING THAT.
BUT I WANTED TO SHOW YOU
SOME PICTURES,
NOT THAT I WAS DRAWING,
BUT THAT MY OWN CHILDREN DREW.
JUST A COUPLE OF THEM
DREW SOME PICTURES.
AND I'M GOING TO HOLD IT UP TO
THE CAMERA FOR YOU.
THERE'S MR. PICKLES RIGHT HERE.
SO, THAT'S HOW ONE OF
MY CHILDREN
SORT OF PICTURED
HOW MR. PICKLES WOULD LOOK
WITH HIS SUIT ON.
AND HE'S GOT A HAT ON THERE.
HE LOOKS PRETTY HAPPY.
HE'S GOT A BIG SMILE.
AND... ..ONE OF MY YOUNGER CHILDREN
DREW THIS ONE.
REALLY LIKES MR. PICKLES.
AND SO, MR. PICKLES, AGAIN,
HE'S GOT A GREAT BIG SMILE
THERE.
I'M NOT SURE IF YOU CAN TELL,
BUT HE HAS A GREAT BIG SMILE
THERE,
AND HE LOOKS LIKE
HE'S ENJOYING HIMSELF.
NOW, I WANTED YOU TO NOTICE
THAT...
I'M NOT SURE IF YOU DID NOTICE
OR NOT.
THAT IN BOTH PICTURES,
WHETHER IT WAS THIS ONE
OR THIS ONE,
THAT MR. PICKLES, OUR CHARACTER,
HE WAS JUST KIND OF
FLOATING AROUND THERE.
SO, WE HAVE OUR MAIN CHARACTER,
MR. PICKLES,
AND WE TALKED ABOUT
HOW CHARACTERS WERE
AN IMPORTANT PART OF STORIES.
AND MR. PICKLES IS JUST KIND OF
FLOATING AROUND THERE
IN THIS SORT OF SPACE.
AND I WANTED TO TALK TO YOU
ABOUT THE FACT THAT
THERE ARE PLACES IN STORIES
THAT WE TALK ABOUT, TOO.
SO, WE KNOW THAT FOR A STORY
THAT THERE'S A MAIN PLACE
IN EACH STORY,
OR AT LEAST
ONE MAIN PLACE IN EACH STORY
THAT WE TALK ABOUT.
AND THE PLACES THAT THE
CHARACTER OR CHARACTERS GO TO
ARE CALLED THE SETTING, OKAY?
SO, THE SETTING OR SETTINGS.
AND I WONDER, IN YOUR PICTURES...
I CAN'T SEE YOUR PICTURES
RIGHT NOW.
BUT I'M WONDERING,
WHEN YOU DREW YOUR MR. PICKLES,
IF YOU DREW THE GROCERY STORE.
I WONDER IF SOME OF YOU DREW
THE AISLE
WHERE THE OTHER PICKLES WERE
OR IF SOME OF YOU DREW,
YOU KNOW,
WHERE THE VEGETABLE STAND WAS
WHERE MR. CELERY WAS FOUND.
SO, I'M JUST CURIOUS TO FIND OUT
IF SOME OF YOU DREW THE SETTING.
SO, DID ANY OF YOU DRAW
THE GROCERY STORE?
DID ANY OF YOU DRAW
INSIDE THE GROCERY STORE?
I'M JUST WONDERING
IF ANY OF YOU HAD DONE THAT,
BECAUSE MY CHILDREN
JUST FOCUSED ON THE CHARACTER.
THEY JUST WANTED TO DRAW
MR. PICKLES.
AND THAT'S OKAY, BECAUSE
I JUST KIND OF TOLD THEM,
"HEY, CAN YOU DRAW A PICTURE
OF MR. PICKLES FOR ME?
"'CAUSE I WANTED TO SHARE IT
WITH MY FRIENDS
ON
TVOKIDS POWER HOUR
OF LEARNING."
AND THEY WERE, LIKE, "YEAH,
FOR SURE. I'D LOVE TO DO THAT."
UM, ANOTHER PART
OF A GOOD STORY...
ANOTHER PART OF A GOOD STORY.
SO, WE'VE GOT CHARACTERS;
WE'VE GOT SETTING.
SO, WE GOT THOSE PEOPLE, THINGS
AND OTHER THINGS
THAT CREATE THE CHARACTERS.
AND WE'VE GOT THE PLACES,
WHICH IS THE SETTING.
IS-- ANOTHER GOOD PART OF
A STORY IS CALLED THE PROBLEM.
OKAY?
NOW, BOYS AND GIRLS,
CAN ANY OF YOU TELL ME
WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS
IN THE MR. PICKLES STORY?
WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM?
AND PERHAPS THERE WAS MORE THAN
ONE PROBLEM
IN THE MR. PICKLES STORY.
THAT'S RIGHT. THAT'S RIGHT.
SO, MR. PICKLES
HAD HIS OWN PROBLEM.
HE WAS ABOUT TO GET
SWEPT UP INTO A BUCKET,
OR MOPPED UP INTO A BUCKET,
RIGHT?
WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER RANDOM
PICKLES AND BROKEN GLASS.
AND OUR NEW FRIEND, MR. CELERY,
HE KIND OF HAD A PROBLEM, TOO.
HE JUST DIDN'T REALIZE IT
AT THE TIME.
THAT HE WAS LAYING THERE,
BEING READY TO BE SOLD
AT THE STORE,
MAYBE TO END UP
IN SOMEBODY'S SALAD, RIGHT?
AND SO, THEY BOTH HAD
THEIR OWN PROBLEM, OKAY?
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT
MR. CELERY WAS NOT EATEN
AND MR. PICKLES
WAS NOT SCOOPED INTO A BUCKET,
AND THEY BECAME FAST FRIENDS.
BUT THERE WERE A FEW THINGS
THAT HAPPENED
KIND OF IN BETWEEN THAT, RIGHT?
THERE WAS A FEW THINGS
THAT HAPPENED
KIND OF IN BETWEEN THAT,
BEFORE THEY BECAME FAST FRIENDS
AND EVERYTHING BECAME OKAY
AND EVERYTHING ENDED, OKAY?
AND THOSE THINGS ARE IMPORTANT
TO THE STORY.
THOSE THINGS ARE CALLED
THE KEY EVENTS, OKAY?
UH, SO THOSE KEY EVENTS LEAD US
O WHAT WE CALL THE SOLUTION,
OR HOW THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED.
AND SO, THOSE KEY EVENTS
ARE THOSE LITTLE TINY THINGS
THAT HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE STORY
THAT HELP US SOLVE THE PROBLEM
GOING THROUGH THE STORY.
AND WHEN WE SOLVE THE PROBLEM,
THAT'S THE SOLUTION, OKAY?
WOW.
A LITTLE TINY, SILLY STORY
LIKE MR. PICKLES...
IT'S A SILLY BEDTIME STORY,
AND IT HAS ALL THESE KEY THINGS.
IT HAS ALL THESE KEY THINGS
FOR US TO REMEMBER.
AND WHEN YOU WANT TO BE
A GOOD STORYTELLER,
YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER
THE CHARACTERS, THE SETTING,
THE PROBLEM.
YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER
THOSE KEY EVENTS, THE SOLUTION.
AND IT REALLY PUTS
OUR IMAGINATION TO TASK,
BUT OUR IMAGINATION
AND CREATIVITY
ARE POWERFUL TOOLS,
AND I KNOW THAT WE CAN ALL DO
A GREAT JOB
WITH OUR STORYTELLING
SUPERPOWERS
AND BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
NOW, DO YOU REMEMBER EARLIER
WHEN I MENTIONED THAT
WE HEAR STORIES AND WE KNOW
STORIES FROM EVERYWHERE?
THEY COME UP FROM EVERYWHERE.
WELL, IT'S TRUE.
SOME OF YOU DREW SOME
NICE ARTWORK BASED ON STORIES.
BUT YOU ALSO KNOW THAT STORIES
ARE IN BOOKS AND ARE SPOKEN.
SO, WE MENTIONED THAT.
AND SOME STORIES
ARE MADE FROM IMAGINATION.
THOSE ARE CALLED
FICTIONAL STORIES.
SO, THE ONES THAT PEOPLE MAKE UP
ARE CALLED FICTIONAL STORIES,
WHILE OTHER STORIES
ARE ABOUT REAL EVENTS,
REAL THINGS
THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED,
AND THOSE ARE CALLED NONFICTION,
OKAY?
SO, THE ONES THAT ARE ABOUT
REAL EVENTS ARE NONFICTION,
AND THE ONES THAT ARE MADE UP
ARE CALLED FICTION OR FICTIONAL,
OKAY?
I'D ALSO MENTIONED THAT MUSIC
PLAYS A BIG ROLE
IN STORYTELLING.
THERE ARE SOME TYPES OF MUSIC
WHERE THE LYRICS, OKAY,
THE WORDS IN THE STORY...
THE WORDS IN THE MUSIC
TELL A STORY.
OKAY?
AND THE LYRICS IN A SONG
CAN BE STORY-LIKE.
SO, FOR EXAMPLE,
I BET YOU I CAN PLAY A SONG
WITH MY GUITAR BACK HERE.
I BET YOU
I CAN PLAY A SONG,
AND IT'D PROBABLY BE
A LITTLE SILLY SONG,
MAYBE A LITTLE PART OF A SONG,
ABOUT MR. PICKLES.
AND I BET YOU I COULD MAKE YOU
LAUGH A LITTLE BIT WITH IT.
AND IT'LL BE LIKE
A LITTLE BIT OF A STORY
WITH SOME GUITAR-PLAYING.
SO, I'M GOING TO DO THAT
RIGHT NOW
AND JUST SEE IF YOU ENJOY THAT.
Now, he holds a guitar.
He continues OKAY, BOYS AND GIRLS.
I HAVE MY GUITAR.
AND AS PROMISED,
I'M GOING TO PLAY A LITTLE TUNE.
NOT A FULL SONG.
MAYBE SOMETHING JUST LITTLE
ABOUT MR. PICKLES.
AND I, UM,
I THINK IT'S A LITTLE BIT SILLY
AND A LITTLE BIT FUNNY,
JUST LIKE THE MR. PICKLES STORY.
AND IT GOES A LITTLE BIT
LIKE THIS.
(strumming chords on guitar)
He sings MY NAME IS MR., MR. PICKLES
I WEAR A SUIT
SOMETIMES IT TICKLES
I WALK AROUND ALL DAY
PEOPLE STARE
I'M OKAY WITH THAT
IN FACT, I DON'T CARE
I LIKE TO MAKE FRIENDS
OH, YES, SIRREE
LIKE MY GOOD BUDDY
MR. CELERY.
As he sings, the two drawings of Mister Pickles appear.
He says AND BOYS AND GIRLS,
I COULD PROBABLY GO ON AND ON
WITH THAT SONG.
IT'S A LITTLE BIT FUNNY
BUT IT'S A LITTLE BIT SILLY,
AND AGAIN,
IT'S JUST, LIKE, PROOF
THAT MUSIC CAN BE
LIKE STORYTELLING AS WELL,
WHERE THE LYRICS,
THE SONGS IN THE STORY,
GET CARRIED THROUGH
BY THE INSTRUMENT.
AND WE PUT IT ALL TOGETHER,
AND ANYONE WHO HAS HEARD
THE MR. PICKLES STORIES NOW
CAN HAVE A GOOD LAUGH ABOUT
THE SONG.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
I MIGHT WRITE DOWN THAT SONG
AND MAKE IT A WHOLE SONG,
NOT JUST A LITTLE TINY SONG,
AND SING IT FOR MY CHILDREN
AS WELL
TO MAKE THEM LAUGH.
WELL, BOYS AND GIRLS, I HAD A
LOT OF FUN PLAYING THAT FOR YOU.
THE SONG IS A LITTLE BIT SILLY,
AND I HOPE THAT YOU HAD FUN
LISTENING TO IT.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
IT'S ABOUT STORYTELLING
THROUGH MUSIC,
SO ANY OF YOU CAN MAKE UP
A SONG LYRIC AS WELL.
YOU CAN MAYBE FINISH UP
THE MR. PICKLES SONG
IF YOU WANT TO.
SO, THE LAST PART OF MY LYRICS
SAID,
"I LIKE TO MAKE FRIENDS,
YES, SIRREE.
LIKE MY GOOD FRIEND,
MR. CELERY."
WELL, MAYBE YOU CAN TALK
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MR. CELERY
IN YOUR SONG,
AND MAYBE YOU CAN DRAW A PICTURE
OF MR. CELERY AS WELL
WITH YOUR SONG.
THERE'S LOTS OF DIFFERENT WAYS
WE CAN TELL STORIES:
THROUGH OUR ARTWORK
AND THROUGH OUR LYRICS,
AND THROUGH OUR WORDS,
OF COURSE.
THROUGH OUR WRITING
AND ENJOYING IT THAT WAY.
REMEMBER,
USE THOSE CREATIVE SUPERPOWERS.
THOSE ARE GOING TO HELP YOU.
WE LEARNED A GREAT DEAL TODAY
ABOUT STORIES.
WE LEARNED THAT STORIES
CAN BE FOUND EVERYWHERE.
WE ALSO LEARNED THAT
IT'S OUR AMAZING IMAGINATIONS,
AND THAT
OUR GREAT CREATIVE ABILITIES
CAN CREATE STORIES
ABOUT REAL THINGS.
AND THINGS-- AND THEN, THAT
WE CAN ALSO TALK ABOUT THINGS
THAT HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED.
WE KNOW THAT MUSIC AND ART,
EVEN MY SILLY, SILLY SONG
THAT YOU HEARD
AND PROBABLY LAUGHED AT
A LITTLE BIT...
I KNOW THAT I LAUGHED.
WE KNOW THAT THOSE ARE
THOSE ARE SOME FUNNY THINGS
THAT WE CAN CREATE OURSELVES.
WE ALSO LEARNED THAT THERE ARE
CERTAIN PARTS OF A STORY
THAT MAKE GREAT STORIES, OKAY?
REMEMBER WE TALKED ABOUT
THE CHARACTER
AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE SETTING,
OKAY?
SO, THE CHARACTER
IS THOSE PEOPLE OR THINGS
THAT WE TALK ABOUT IN THE STORY.
THE SETTING IS THOSE PLACES
THAT THOSE PEOPLE OR THINGS
THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT,
WHERE IT'S ALL TAKING PLACE,
RIGHT?
THE SETTING.
AND THE PROBLEM, THAT'S WHEN
WE EXPLORE WHAT'S WRONG.
OKAY? THAT'S THE PROBLEM.
WHAT'S GOING ON?
AND IN MR. PICKLES' STORY,
THERE WERE A FEW PROBLEMS, OKAY?
MAYBE IN YOUR STORIES, THERE
JUST NEEDS TO BE ONE BIG PROBLEM
AND THAT'S ALL, OKAY?
AND THAT'S OKAY.
WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT
THOSE KEY ELEMENTS,
THOSE IMPORTANT THINGS,
THOSE IMPORTANT LITTLE THINGS
THAT LEAD US INTO THE SOLUTION
OF THE PROBLEM,
HOW THE PROBLEM GETS SOLVED.
THOSE ARE JUST, YOU KNOW,
HOW THINGS GET SOLVED, OKAY?
AND OF COURSE, AT THE END,
THE SOLUTION, OKAY?
WHEN THINGS GET SOLVED
FOR THE CHARACTERS.
OKAY?
SO, THAT'S THE IMPORTANT THING
IS AT THE END,
WE ADD THAT SOLUTION
FOR THE CHARACTERS AND
HOW EVERYTHING GETS WRAPPED UP,
AND THE STORY ENDS THAT WAY.
OKAY?
WELL, BOYS AND GIRLS,
I REALLY ENJOYED SPENDING TIME
WITH YOU TODAY.
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED
SPENDING SOME TIME WITH ME.
AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU NEXT TIME
ON
TVOKIDS POWER HOUR
OF LEARNING.
I'VE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME
WITH YOU,
AND I WISH YOU A HAPPY DAY.
STAY HAPPY AND STAY SAFE.
TAKE CARE, EVERYONE.
BYE FOR NOW.
(music plays)
