The name of the show appears in colourful letters on an animated sky. It reads "TVO Kids Power hour of learning. Teacher edition."

The caption changes to "Today's primary lesson: Odd and even numbers."

The announcer says WELCOME TO
TVOKIDS
POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.

The caption changes to "Primary 1 to 3. Teacher Renée."

Teacher Marcia is in her thirties, with long curly brown hair and wears glasses and a black blouse with lace details.

She sits comfortably at home and says HI, EVERYONE! I'M RENEE!
HOW ARE YOU TODAY?
I HOPE YOU'RE ALL HAVING A
WONDERFUL DAY.
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO DO SOME
MATH TOGETHER.
AND WE'RE GOING TO DO
SOME LEARNING.
IN ORDER FOR US TO DO
SOME LEARNING,
WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE
OF A COUPLE OF THINGS.
CAN YOU SEE ME?
CAN YOU HEAR ME?
ARE YOU IN A PLACE WHERE
YOU CAN LEARN?
ARE YOU COMFY?
ARE YOU COMFY IN YOUR CHAIR?
AND ARE YOU IN A SPACE THAT
DOESN'T HAVE ANY DISTRACTIONS?
IF YOU SAID YES TO THOSE THINGS,
THEN WE'RE READY TO GO!
NOW WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING
SOME MATH TOGETHER.
WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR MATH,
WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING
AT SOME NUMBERS,
WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT
SOME PICTURES,
AND WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING
AT SOME MANIPULATIVES.
THOSE MAY BE SOME NEW WORDS,
BUT DON'T WORRY.
WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT THOSE NEW
WORDS TOGETHER,
AND AS WE LOOK AT THOSE NEW
WORDS TOGETHER,
I'M GOING TO EXPLAIN THEM.
I'M ALSO GOING TO STOP FOR
SOME THINK TIME.
ANYONE KNOW WHAT THINK TIME IS?
THINK TIME IS WHEN I'M
GOING TO PAUSE
AND I'M GONNA WAIT.
SOMETIMES WHEN I ASK A QUESTION,
OR WHEN ANYBODY ASKS A QUESTION,
WE NEED TO TAKE SOME TIME TO
LET OUR BRAINS THINK.
SOMETIMES WE NEED TO LET OUR
BRAIN THINK OF, MAYBE,
SOMETHING IT CAN CONNECT TO.
MAYBE LET OUR BRAINS THINK ABOUT
SOMETHING WE ALREADY KNOW.
THINK TIME IS GOOD.
SO I'LL ASK A QUESTION
AND I'LL ALWAYS GIVE YOU
SOME THINK TIME.
SO LET'S TRY.
LET'S SEE. IF I'M GOING TO ASK
A QUESTION ABOUT...
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?
LET'S GIVE YOU SOME THINK TIME.
DO YOU HAVE AN ANSWER FOR ME?
SOMETIMES THE ANSWER THAT WE GET
AFTER A LITTLE BIT OF THINK TIME
IS MUCH BETTER
THAN THE ANSWER THAT WE GET
WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO THINK
REALLY QUICKLY.
SO LET'S GET INTO SOME MATH.
AND REMEMBER,
USE YOUR THINK TIME.
LET'S LOOK AT TWO SETS
OF NUMBERS.

Two sets of numbers, one odd and one even, appear on screen.

Teacher Renée says WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT OUR
SLIDE.
LET'S TAKE A PEAK.
HERE WE'VE GOT TWO SETS OF
NUMBERS.
IN THE PINK, WE HAVE ONE, THREE,
FIVE, SEVEN, AND NINE.
AND IN THE GREEN,
WE'VE GOT
TWO, FOUR, SIX,
AND EIGHT.
NOW OUR PROBLEM FOR TODAY
IS WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT ODD
AND EVEN NUMBERS.
SO WE HAVE TWO GROUPS
OF NUMBERS.
WHICH ONES ARE ODD,
AND WHICH ONES ARE EVEN?
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
SOMETIMES WHEN WE HAVE
A MATH PROBLEM,
IT'S A GOOD IDEA
TO LOOK AT IT
IN DIFFERENT WAYS.
YOU CAN WRITE IT DOWN,
YOU CAN DRAW A PICTURE,
OR YOU CAN USE MANIPULATIVES.
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO USE
SOME MANIPULATIVES.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
A MANIPULATIVE IS SOMETHING
THAT YOU CAN TOUCH
AND SEE AND PLAY WITH
AND MOVE,
AND TO TRY AND ACT OUT
THE PROBLEM.
YOU CAN USE LEGO,
MARBLES, ROCKS,
PIECES OF POPCORN,
YOU COULD USE ANYTHING, REALLY.
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO USE
LITTLE BEARS.
SO LET'S CHECK IT OUT.
SO WE HAVE OUR TWO SETS
OF NUMBERS.
NOW HOW DO WE FIGURE OUT WHICH
NUMBERS ARE ODD
AND WHICH NUMBERS ARE EVEN?
NOW WHEN WE HAVE A MATH PROBLEM,
WE CAN DO A COUPLE OF THINGS.
WE CAN DRAW IT OUT,
WE CAN USE WORDS,
WE CAN USE NUMBERS,
OR WE CAN USE SOMETHING CALLED
MANIPULATIVES.
THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING
TO DO TODAY.
A MANIPULATIVE IS JUST SOMETHING
YOU CAN PLAY WITH.
IT COULD BE MARBLES, POPCORN,
IT COULD BE LEGOS.
BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT CAN USE
TO ACT OUT THE MATH PROBLEM.
SO WHAT WE'RE GOING TO USE TODAY
TO HELP US ACT OUT
THE MATH PROBLEM ARE SOME BEARS.
HERE'S MY BOWL OF BEARS.
AND THIS IS WHAT WE'RE GOING
TO USE, OUR LITTLE BEARS.
THIS IS WHAT WE'RE GOING TO USE
FOR OUR MANIPULATIVES.
LET'S CHECK THEM OUT.

She shows tiny plastic toy bears and says SO THESE ARE OUR LITTLE BEARS.
NOW AN ODD NUMBER,
WE CAN'T SHARE EQUALLY
BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE.
SO LET'S SAY YOU AND I
BOTH WANT A BEAR,
BUT THERE'S ONLY ONE BEAR.
CAN YOU AND I SHARE THAT
BEAR EQUALLY?
THAT MEANS WE BOTH GET THE SAME
NUMBER OF BEARS?
NO, RIGHT?
WE CAN'T SHARE THAT EQUALLY.
BUT NOW WHAT IF WE
HAD TWO BEARS?
NOW THERE ARE TWO BEARS
AND YOU WANT ONE,
AND I WANT ONE.
CAN WE SHARE THOSE BEARS?
YEAH, WE TOTALLY COULD.
YOU COULD HAVE ONE BEAR,
AND I COULD HAVE ONE BEAR.
SO THE NUMBER ONE,
ONE BEAR, THE NUMBER ONE,
IS AN ODD NUMBER,
BECAUSE IT CAN'T BE SHARED
EQUALLY WITH TWO PEOPLE.
BUT IF WE ADD A BEAR,
THE NUMBER TWO IS AN EVEN NUMBER
BECAUSE TWO CAN BE SHARED
EQUALLY BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE.
WHAT IF WE ADD ANOTHER BEAR?
NOW WE HAVE THREE BEARS.
THERE'S THREE BEARS, BUT IT'S
STILL YOU AND I SHARING.
SO HOW COULD WE SHARE THESE
BEARS EQUALLY
BETWEEN EACH OTHER?
CAN WE SHARE THREE OF THEM
EQUALLY BETWEEN EACH OTHER?
THAT MEANS WE WOULD BOTH HAVE
THE SAME AMOUNT.
CAN WE SHARE THESE BEARS SO WE
BOTH HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT?
NO, WE CAN'T. YOU'RE RIGHT.
SO THAT MEANS THREE
IS AN ODD NUMBER.
REMEMBER, ODD NUMBERS MEAN WE
CAN'T SHARE EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE TWO OF US,
BUT AN EVEN NUMBER MEANS WE CAN
SHARE EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE TWO OF US.
ALL RIGHT,
LET'S ADD ANOTHER BEAR.
NOW THERE'S FOUR BEARS.
IF WE HAVE FOUR BEARS,
CAN WE SHARE FOUR EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE TWO OF US?
YES, I COULD HAVE TWO.
ONE, TWO.
AND YOU COULD HAVE TWO.
ONE, TWO.
SO WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT ODD
AND EVEN NUMBERS?
EVEN NUMBERS WE CAN SHARE.
THAT'S RIGHT.
SO CAN WE SHARE THIS EQUALLY,
IF I GET TWO AND YOU GET TWO?
IS THAT EQUALLY BETWEEN US?
YES, THAT'S RIGHT.
AWESOME.
SO THAT MEANS FOUR IS
AN EVEN NUMBER.
OKAY, GOT ANOTHER ONE.
NOW WE HAVE FIVE BEARS.
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE.
WHOOPS. HE'S TRYING TO RUN AWAY.
WHAT ABOUT FIVE?
CAN WE SHARE FIVE EQUALLY
BETWEEN YOU AND I?
THAT MEANS CAN WE DIVIDE THEM UP
SO WE HAVE THE SAME NUMBER?
IF I HAVE THE TOP THREE,
ONE, TWO, THREE,
AND YOU HAVE THE BOTTOM TWO,
ONE, TWO,
IS THAT EQUAL?
NO, THAT'S NOT EQUAL.
SO THAT MEANS ONE, TWO, THREE,
FOUR, FIVE...
FIVE IS AN ODD NUMBER.
ALL RIGHT,
LET'S TRY ANOTHER ONE.
HERE'S ANOTHER BEAR FRIEND.
LET'S COUNT OUR BEARS.
TRY IT IN FRENCH THIS TIME.
UN, DEUX, TROIS, QUATRE,
CINQ, SIX.
LOOK! NOW YOU CAN COUNT THEM
IN FRENCH!
WANT TO TRY THAT AGAIN?
UN, DEUX, TROIS, QUATRE,
CINQ, SIX.
YOU'VE GOT SIX BEARS NOW.
NOW CAN YOU AND I SHARE SIX
BEARS EQUALLY TOGETHER?
I THINK SO.
IF I HAVE THE TOP THREE,
ONE, TWO, THREE,
AND YOU HAVE THESE BOTTOM THREE,
ONE, TWO, THREE,
THAT'S EQUAL!
AWESOME.
LET'S ADD ANOTHER BEAR.
SO, WHAT DID WE LEARN ABOUT
THE NUMBER SIX?
IS SIX ODD OR EVEN?
SIX IS EVEN. WELL DONE!
LET'S TAKE ANOTHER BEAR.
WHAT ABOUT THE NUMBER SEVEN?
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE
NUMBER SEVEN?
CAN WE SHARE SEVEN EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE TWO OF US?
NOPE. WE CAN'T SHARE SEVEN
EQUALLY.
SO SEVEN IS AN ODD NUMBER.
LET'S GET ANOTHER BEAR.
WHAT ABOUT EIGHT?
GOT EIGHT BEARS.
IS EIGHT AN EVEN NUMBER?
CAN WE SHARE EIGHT EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE TWO OF US?
LET'S COUNT. IF I HAVE ONE, TWO,
THREE, FOUR,
THAT MEANS YOU HAVE ONE, TWO,
THREE, FOUR.
THAT'S EQUAL!
SO EIGHT IS AN EQUAL NUMBER.
AN EVEN NUMBER, SORRY.
EIGHT IS AN EVEN NUMBER.
LET'S ADD ONE MORE.
NOW HOW MANY DO WE HAVE?
WANT TO TRY IT IN FRENCH AGAIN?
UN, DEUX, TROIS, QUATRE,
CINQ, SIX, SEPT, HUIT, NEUF.
HOW MANY IS THAT? THAT IS ONE,
TWO, THREE, FOUR,
FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE.
WE'VE GOT NINE LITTLE BEARS
OVER HERE.
CAN WE SHARE NINE EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE TWO OF US?
HMM, LET'S THINK ABOUT IT.
IF YOU GET THE TOP ONES,
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE,
IS THE BOTTOM EQUAL?
NO, SO THAT MEANS NINE
IS AN ODD NUMBER.
ONE MORE BEAR.
NOW HOW MANY DO WE HAVE?
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE,
SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN.
WE'VE NOW GOT TEN BEARS.
TEN BEARS, ODD OR EVEN NUMBER?
TEN WOULD BE EVEN.
THERE ARE FIVE AT THE TOP
AND FIVE AT THE BOTTOM.
NOW LET'S GO LOOK AT OUR SLIDE
OF NUMBERS AGAIN.
LET'S GO CHECK THEM OUT AND SEE
IF WE CAN FIND
WHICH GROUP OF NUMBERS ARE ODD
AND WHICH GROUP OF NUMBERS
ARE EVEN.
WE'RE BACK TO OUR NUMBERS AGAIN.
WE HAVE TWO SETS.
ONE, THREE, FIVE, SEVEN,
AND NINE.
AND THE GREEN,
ZERO, TWO, FOUR,
SIX, AND EIGHT.
SO OUR QUESTION FOR TODAY
WAS WHICH NUMBERS
ARE ODD NUMBERS,
AND WHICH NUMBERS
ARE EVEN?
REMEMBER, AN ODD NUMBER
CAN'T BE SHARED EQUALLY
BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE.
AN EVEN NUMBER CAN BE SHARED
EQUALLY BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE.
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK?
ONE, THREE, FIVE,
SEVEN, AND NINE ARE...
ODD NUMBERS! THAT'S RIGHT!
AND ZERO, TWO, FOUR,
SIX, AND EIGHT
ARE WHAT KIND OF
NUMBERS?
EVEN! THAT'S RIGHT!
WELL DONE!
SO I THINK IT'S TIME FOR A BIT
OF A BRAIN BREAK.
WE LEARNED ABOUT GROUPS
AND WE LEARNED ABOUT HOW WE CAN
DIVIDE GROUPS.
WE'RE GONNA WATCH
WOLF JOE,
AND WOLF JOE AND TEAM SUPREME
ARE GOING TO DO SOMETHING ELSE
IN A GROUP.
I WANT YOU TO LOOK AND I WANT
YOU TO NOTICE,
WHAT IS WOLF JOE DOING
IN A GROUP?
LET'S WATCH!

An episode of Wolf Joe rolls.

The name of the show reads "Wolf Joe."

3 indigenous young friends roam the forests looking for adventures in nature.

Joe has brown hair and a braid and he wears a blue hooded sweatshirt with a paw print on the front and a head piece.

Nina has long brown hair in pigtail braids and wears a yellow hooded sweatshirt with a paw print on the front and a headpiece.

Buddy has short brown hair and wears a green hooded sweatshirt with a paw print on the front.

The kids hood up to turn to their animal spirits.

Joe says I'M JOE.
WOLF SPIRIT, GO!

Nina says I'M NINA!
LYNX SPIRIT, GO!

Buddy tumbles as he walks on a floating lodge and says WHOOA-- OOPS.

Buddy says I'M BUDDY THE BEAR.
BEAR SPIRIT, GO!

They all say SMUDGE!
GO! GO! GO!

Joe says EVERYBODY READY?

They join hands and say
GO! WOLF! JOE!

The name of the episode reads "Team Supreme."

Joe and grandpa Mishoom play football in the yard while grandma Kookum watches.

Joe says JOE RUNS UP THE FIELD!
HE'S UNSTOPPABLE!

Mishoom says I'M OPEN, JOE!

Joe says WHOO-HOO!
ONCE AGAIN,
IT'S JOE FOR THE WIN!

Koocum says REMEMBER, THE TURTLE BAY
CHALLENGE
IS ABOUT WORKING AS A TEAM.

Joe says WE'VE GOT THAT COVERED, KOOKUM.

I'VE BEEN PRACTICING WITH
MISHOOM FOR WEEKS.
WE'RE THE TEAM SUPREME!

Mishoom says HEH, WELL, THIS TEAM SUPREME
NEEDS TO PRACTICE SLING BALL,
THE MOST IMPORTANT CHALLENGE.
(GRUNTING)

Joe says AW, MY WORST SPORT.

Mishoom says READY?
(INDIGENOUS CHANTING)

Mishoom lies on his back, ties the sling to his feet and throws the ball.

He says SLING!
HM...

Now Joe tries.

Mishoom says SLING!
WHOOPS! KOOKUM, LOOK OUT!

Kookum catches the ball.

Joe says WOW! AMAZING CATCH.

Koocum says THANKS, JOE.

Mishoom says GOOD JOB!
(MAN GRUNTING)

A fisherman walks by. He seems to have troubles with his fishing rod.

He gets it hooked in his waterdog and says UH-OH.
HI, I'M LOOKING FOR THE FELLA
THAT RUNS THE EXPEDITION
SUPPLY STORE.

Mishoom says THAT'S ME. HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
(CHUCKLING)

The fisherman says I WANT TO HIRE A FISHING GUIDE.

Joe says WELL, YOU CAME TO THE
RIGHT PLACE.
MY MISHOOM IS THE BEST
GUIDE AROUND.

The fisherman says I HEARD!
CAN YOU TAKE ME OUT NOW?
I'M GOOD TO GO.

Joe says BUT MISHOOM!

Mishoon unhooks him and says WELL, OKAY, I'LL MEET YOU DOWN
AT THE DOCKS
ONCE I GET MY GEAR.

The fisherman says GREAT. THANKS!

The man trips on a rock and says WHOA!
SEE YOU SOON.

Joe says BUT MISHOOM, WHAT ABOUT THE
TURTLE BAY CHALLENGE?

Mishoom says DON'T WORRY, JOE.
I'VE GOT THE PERFECT
REPLACEMENT. KOOKUM!

Joe says KOOKUM?

Koocum says YOU BET YA!

At the store, Joe looks at an old picture of Kookum on the wall and says KOOKUM, I KNOW YOU USED TO BE
A GOOD ATHLETE...

Mishoom says SHE WAS A GREAT ATHLETE.

Joe says IT'S JUST THAT MISHOOM AND I
HAVE BEEN PRACTICING FOR WEEKS.

Mishoom says TRUST THE EAGLE, JOE.
IT WILL WATCH OVER YOUR TEAM,
PROTECTING AND GUIDING YOU
IF YOU LET IT.
SEE YOU LATER!

Kokum throws him an apple.

Mishoom says MIIGWECH, KOOKUM!

On a boat, Mishoom says HERE WE ARE,
THE PERFECT FISHING SPOT.
PLUS WE HAVE A GREAT VIEW OF THE
TURTLE BAY CHALLENGE.

The fisherman says I'VE GOT A BITE!
(GRUNTING)

The fisherman says IT'S A BIG ONE! WHOA-OH!

Mishoom says OH, HERE. HMM.
HOLD ON.
(GRUNTING)

Meanwhile in Turtle Bay, the teams stretch for the challenge.

(GRUNTING)
(WHISTLE BLOWING)

Eva blows the whistle and says WELCOME TO THE TURTLE BAY
CHALLENGE!
THE TEAM THAT EARNS
THE MOST POINTS
IN ALL THREE EVENTS WILL WIN!
CHALLENGE ONE IS
LACROSSE!

Koocum says MY FAVOURITE.
(LOON CALLING)

Mishoon watches the challenge with binoculars and says NICE AND EASY.
LET THE FISHING POLE
DO THE WORK.

The fisherman says LIKE THIS?
(GRUNTING)

Without looking at him, Mishoon says PERFECT. LOOKING GOOD.

(GASPING)

He drops the rod in the water and grabs another one.

Meanwhile, the lacrosse game starts.

Koocum says I'M OPEN, JOE!

Joe says I'VE GOT THIS!

Buddy says NOW NINA'S GOT IT!

Joe says HEY, WHAT?!

Nina says COMING AT YOU, MOM!

Joe says YOU CAN'T GET BY ME!

Nina says OH YEAH?

Joe says NO!

Kookum catches the ball.

Joe says OH, NICE!

Koocum says HERE YOU GO, JOE!

Team Joe and Kookum scores.

(CHEERING)
(WHISTLE BLOWING)

KOOKUM AND JOE
WIN CHALLENGE ONE.

On the boat, Mishoon says YAY! WAY TO GO, TEAM SUPREME!

The boat starts rocking.

The fisherman says WHOA! WHOA! WHOA!

Joe says YES!

Koocum says YES!
(WHISTLE BLOWING)

Eva blows the whistle and says CHALLENGE TWO
IS THE CANOE PORTAGE.
EACH TEAM WILL RACE TO THEIR
CANOES, THEN PICK THEM UP,
AND CARRY THEM TO THE FINISH
LINE TOGETHER!

Joe says MISHOOM AND I PRACTICED THE
CANOE PORTAGE A LOT.
BUT I'VE NEVER DONE IT WITH YOU,
KOOKUM.

Koocum says NO PROBLEM, JOE.
IT'S JUST LIKE RIDING A BIKE.
EXCEPT YOU'RE CARRYING A CANOE
OVER YOUR HEAD.

Buddy says YEAH! AND YOU CAN'T SEE
WHERE YOU'RE GOING.
(GROANING)

Joe says DON'T WORRY, KOOKUM.

Koocum says WHO'S WORRIED?

Joe says I'M SUPER STRONG!
(GRUNTING)

Joe says HUH? WHOA! AH!
WHAT?

Kokum easily lifts the canoe and says AND I'M SUPER-DUPER STRONG!
(GRUNTING)

Buddy struggles to lift his canoe and says WHOA! WHOA! WHOA!
SORRY!

Koocum says LET'S GO, PARTNER. TOGETHER!

Joe says YOU GOT IT, PARTNER!
(PANTING)

Buddy says THIS WAY?
(CHIEF MADWE SHOUTING)
NOPE.

Chief Madwe says WHOA!

Nina says HOPE YOU LIKE COMING IN SECOND!

Joe says I LIKE BEING IN FIRST BETTER!

Nina says OH YEAH? ME TOO!
YES!
(WHISTLE BLOWING)
(GRUNTING)

Eva blows the whistle and says THE WINNERS
OF THE CANOE PORTAGE ARE...
NINA AND CAPTAIN CODY.

(CROWD APPLAUDING)

The fisherman says I'VE GOT A BITE!
(GRUNTING)
IT'S A BIG ONE!

Mishoom says WHOA! HEH-HEH!
IT'S SURE PUTTING UP A FIGHT.

As he struggles to get the catch out of the water, he throws the paddles away from the boat.

The fisherman says GOT AN EXTRA PADDLE?

Mishoom says SURE. BACK AT THE STORE.

Eva says NOW FOR THE FINAL TURTLE BAY
CHALLENGE.
SLING BALL!

Joe says SLING BALL? AW...

Koocum says WE'RE TEAM SUPREME, AREN'T WE?

Mishoom says HELP!
CAN SOMEONE GIVE US A HAND HERE?

Buddy says MISHOOM NEEDS OUR HELP!

Joe says IT'S TIME FOR...
SPIRIT POWER!
HOOD UP! I'M JOE.
WOLF SPIRIT, LET'S GO!

Nina says LYNX EARS. NINA, LEAP!
LYNX SPIRIT, SO NEAT!

Buddy says BUDDY'S HERE. I'M BRAVE.
BEAR SPIRIT! READY TO SAVE!

Joe says SPIRIT POWER!
WE'RE COMING, MISHOOM!

The kids run to the pier.

Nina grabs a flotation device and says CATCH THIS, MISHOOM!
LYNX TOSS!

Buddy throws another one and says BEAR STRENGTH!
(GRUNTING)

He gets the rope tangled in his ankle.

He says IT'S UP TO YOU, JOE!

Joe says GOT IT! EXCEPT IF BUDDY AND NINA
COULDN'T THROW FAR ENOUGH,
MAYBE I CAN'T EITHER.

Koocum says DON'T GIVE UP NOW, JOE.
REMEMBER, YOUR LEGS ARE STRONGER
THAN YOUR ARMS.

Joe says HMM...
THE ROPE AROUND THE LIFE
PRESERVER IS LIKE A SLING BALL!

Nina and Buddy say THROW, JOE, THROW!

Joe says HERE IT COMES, MISHOOM!
SLING BALL-STYLE!

He throws the device with his feet.

(GRUNTING)
(GRUNTING)

Mishoom catches it and says GOT IT!
WAY TO GO, JOE!

Joe says OKAY, NOW PULL! WOLF POWER!
(GRUNTING)

The kids pull from the rope to get the boat back to the pier.

Nina says LYNX GRIP!
(GRUNTING)

Buddy says BEAR STRENGTH!
(GRUNTING)

Nina says IT'S TOO HEAVY!

Buddy says WHAT DO WE DO?
WE CAN'T PULL IT ALONE.

Joe gasps and says BUT THE EAGLE TELLS US
TO WORK AS A TEAM.
KOOKUM! CAPTAIN CODY!
CHIEF MADWE!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Captain Cody says ON OUR WAY.

Koocum says WE'RE COMING, KIDS.

Joe says OKAY, EVERYBODY PULL!
(SPEAKING INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE)

Joe says PULL!
(SIGHING)

They all pull the boat back to the pier.

Mishoom says THANKS FOR THE RESCUE,
TEAM SUPREME!

The fisherman says ALMOST GOT IT.
OH, SHE'S A BIG ONE!
WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!
A LOG?
I'M GOOD TO GO.

Mishoom says SEE YOU LATER.

The fisherman trips again and almost drops the log and the fishing rod.

He says WHOA! OOF.
YIKES.

Mishoom says SO JOE, HOW DID TEAM SUPREME DO
AT THE TURTLE BAY CHALLENGE?

Joe says GREAT, THANKS TO KOOKUM.

Koocum says AWW, I COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT
WITHOUT YOU, JOE.
DON'T YOU THINK WE MADE A GREAT
TEAM?

Joe says WE SURE DID.

Mishoom says HEH, I KNEW YOU WOULD.
THAT'S WHY YOU'VE EARNED
THE TEACHING
THAT THE EAGLE BRINGS US
IN THE SEVEN TEACHINGS WHEEL.

Koocum says FOR SHOWING THAT LOVE IS ALL
ABOUT TRUSTING EACH OTHER.
WE ARE ALL STRONGER
WHEN WE PULL TOGETHER.
(WHISTLE BLOWING)

Eva blows the whistle and says THIS YEAR'S TURTLE BAY
CHALLENGE WINNERS
ARE NINA, BUDDY, AND JOE!

Koocum says YOU'RE ALL WINNERS IN OUR BOOK.

Joe says THANKS, PARTNER.
BUT WE HAD HELP!
IT TOOK ALL OF US TO BE
A TEAM SUPREME.

He howls and everyone cheers.

(HOWLING)
(APPLAUDING, CHEERING)

Music plays as the end credits roll.

Teacher Renée says WELCOME BACK, EVERYONE!
WHAT DID JOE LEARN?
DID YOU NOTICE?
JOE LEARNED THAT LOVE IS ALL
ABOUT TRUSTING EACH OTHER.
AND ISN'T THAT WONDERFUL?
THAT WHEN WE TRUST EACH OTHER,
THAT MEANS WE WANT WHAT'S BEST
FOR EACH OTHER.
THAT ALSO MEANS THAT WE KNOW
EACH OTHER'S STRENGTHS
AND WEAKNESSES.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO BE
ONE OF YOUR STRENGTHS SOON?
BEING ABLE TO FIGURE OUT
YOUR ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS.
SO LET'S GO BACK TO OUR SLIDES
AND WE'LL DO A COUPLE OF
PROBLEMS TOGETHER.
OKAY, LET'S PRACTICE.
WE HAVE THE NUMBER 23.
NOW 23 IS INTERESTING
BECAUSE 23 HAS TWO DIGITS.
THERE'S ONE, TWO.
A DIGIT IS ANOTHER WORD
FOR NUMBER.
NOW 23, LET'S LOOK AT BOTH OF
THOSE NUMBERS SEPARATELY
FOR A SECOND.
THE NUMBER TWO.
CAN TWO BE SHARED EQUALLY
WITH TWO PEOPLE?
YES, BOTH OF THEM WOULD GET ONE,
RIGHT?
WHAT ABOUT THE NUMBER THREE?
IF WE HAD THREE BEARS,
CAN WE SHARE OUR THREE BEARS
EQUALLY WITH TWO PEOPLE?
NO. THAT WOULDN'T WORK.
SO THE NUMBER 23 HAS AN EVEN
NUMBER, TWO,
AND AN ODD NUMBER, THREE.
SO WHICH ONE IS IT?
IS IT EVEN OR ODD?
WANT TO KNOW A TRICK?
WHENEVER YOU'RE LOOKING
AT A NUMBER,
NO MATTER HOW MANY DIGITS
IT HAS,
YOU'RE ALWAYS GOING TO FOCUS ON
THIS LAST ONE.
SO IN 23, WE'RE JUST GOING TO
LOOK AT THE THREE.
WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT
THE LAST NUMBER.
THREE IS AN ODD NUMBER,
SO THAT MEANS 23 IS
AN ODD NUMBER.
LET'S PRACTICE A LITTLE.
HERE IS THE NUMBER 76.
WE HAVE A SEVEN AND A SIX.
76.
NOW WHICH NUMBER ARE WE
GOING TO FOCUS ON?
ARE WE GOING TO FOCUS ON
THE SEVEN?
NO, WE'RE GOING TO FOCUS ON
THE SIX.
THAT'S RIGHT.
NOW SIX, ODD OR EVEN NUMBER?
IF I HAD SIX BEARS,
COULD I SHARE MY SIX BEARS
WITH TWO PEOPLE EQUALLY?
YEAH, YOU'RE RIGHT. WE CAN.
SO 76, WE'RE GOING TO FOCUS ON
THE SIX RIGHT HERE.
IS 76 AN ODD OR EVEN NUMBER?
IT'S EVEN! WELL DONE.
LET'S SEE IF I CAN TRICK YOU.
WHAT IF WE HAVE A BIG NUMBER?
437.
NOW WE HAVE ONE, TWO, THREE
DIGITS.
WHICH ONE ARE WE GOING TO
FOCUS ON?
FIRST ONE? NOPE.
SECOND? NO.
THIS LAST ONE RIGHT HERE.
SEVEN.
SO IS SEVEN ODD OR EVEN?
SEVEN IS AN ODD NUMBER.
WELL DONE!
SO THE NUMBER 437,
ODD OR EVEN?
ODD! PERFECT.
WANT TO TRY SOME MORE?
LET'S LOOK AT ANOTHER NUMBER.
16.
A ONE AND A SIX.
WHICH NUMBER ARE WE GOING TO
FOCUS ON?
THE ONE IN THE ONE'S COLUMN?
THAT'S RIGHT, THE SIX.
SO IS SIX ODD OR EVEN?
SIX IS...
EVEN! THAT'S RIGHT!
SO THE NUMBER 16 WOULD BE
AN EVEN NUMBER.
WELL DONE.
HOW ABOUT 85?
85. WE HAVE AN EIGHT,
WHICH WE KNOW IS AN EVEN NUMBER,
AND WE'VE GOT A FIVE.
WHICH NUMBER ARE WE GOING TO
FOCUS ON?
THE LAST DIGIT.
RIGHT, THE FIVE.
AND FIVE IS AN...
ODD NUMBER, GREAT.
SO 85 IS AN ODD NUMBER.
LET'S TRY ANOTHER ONE.
497.
HMM.
WHICH ONE ARE WE GOING TO
LOOK AT?
HERE'S OUR TRICKY ONE.
WHICH DIGIT ARE WE GOING TO
FOCUS ON?
THE SEVEN, THAT'S RIGHT.
SO SEVEN, IS IT ODD OR EQUAL?
SEVEN IS AN ODD NUMBER.
SO 497
IS AN ODD NUMBER.
WELL DONE! VERY GOOD.
YOU GUYS ARE EXPERTS.
LET'S SEE. LET'S TRY AGAIN.
96. A NINE AND A SIX.
IS 96 ODD OR EVEN.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
EVEN! WELL DONE.
GOOD JOB.
OOH. HERE'S A TRICKY ONE.

The number 30 appears on the slide.

Teacher Renée says A THREE AND A ZERO.
REMEMBER, ZERO IS A NUMBER.
ZERO HAS A VALUE.
SO, WE CAN'T FORGET ABOUT ZERO.
IF YOU HAD ZERO BEARS.
AND YOU HAVE ZERO BEARS
AND YOU AND I ARE GOING TO SHARE
SOME BEARS,
BUT THERE'S NO BEARS.
SO, IF I HAVE NO BEARS,
CAN I SHARE ANY OF
MY BEARS WITH YOU?
NOPE. SO, YOU HAVE NO BEARS
AND I HAVE NO BEARS.
IS IT EQUAL?
DO WE BOTH HAVE ZERO?
YUP, YOU'RE RIGHT.
WE BOTH HAVE ZERO BEARS.
SO, IT CAN BE SHARED EQUALLY
BETWEEN THE TWO OF US.
SO, THEN, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
WE'RE GOING TO FOCUS
ON THIS LAST NUMBER.
WE'RE GOING TO
FOCUS ON THE ZERO,
AND WE KNOW ZERO CAN BE
SHARED EQUALLY BETWEEN US.
SO, IS ZERO AN ODD
OR EVEN NUMBER?
THAT'S RIGHT. EVEN.
SO, 30. ODD OR EVEN?
EVEN, WELL DONE.
AND OUR TRICKY ONE.
389.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
ODD! THAT'S RIGHT,
BECAUSE THE NUMBER NINE
TELLS US IT'S AN ODD NUMBER.
WELL DONE!
YOU SOLVED THOSE
PROBLEMS VERY WELL.
AND WE USED PICTURES TO BE
ABLE TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS.
REMEMBER, WHEN WE'RE
SOLVING MATH PROBLEMS,
WE USE OUR PICTURES,
WORDS, AND MANIPULATIVES.
SO, I'VE BEEN SITTING
IN THIS CHAIR FOR A WHILE.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
I THINK IT'S TIME
FOR A BODY BREAK.
LET'S GO BECOME SUPERHEROES
AND MOVE OUR BODY A LITTLE BIT.

(music plays)

Images of a warehouse full of art on its walls appear.

Mickeey pops out of a graffiti art on a wall.

Mickeey is in his twenties, with short puffy black hair and he wears rolled up jeans, a blue T-shirt with a print on the front, a purple and white neck scarf, and red bomber jacket and snickers.

Mickeey says HEY, WHAT'S UP?
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO
BE LEARNING ONE OF
MY FAVOURITE DANCES.
IT'S CALLED
THE ROCKSTAR.

A caption reads "Rockstar 1."

Mickeey dances and says LET'S KICK IT OFF
WITH THE FEET, YOU GUYS.
EASY PEASY.
ALL YOU GOTTA
DO IS STEP OUT,
YOU'RE GONNA TAKE
YOUR KNEES IN
TO COME OUT AGAIN,
AND THEN YOU'RE
GONNA LEAN DOWN
TO THAT SIDE.
FIVE, SIX,
SEVEN, EIGHT.
DOWN IN OUT...
DOWN IN OUT.
STEP IN OUT...
STEP IN OUT.
ALRIGHT, CHECK OUT
MY HANDS, YOU GUYS.
WE'RE GOING TO BE
STRUMMING ON OUR GUITAR.
AND IT'S GOING TO BE
IN THE SHAPE OF AN L.
YOUR FIRST STEP,
TAKE THAT DOWN.
HIT, HIT TO
MAKE AN L.
ONE AND TWO, GO.
THREE AND FOUR.
FIVE AND SIX.
SEVEN AND EIGHT.
NICE.
NOW LET'S DO IT WITH MUSIC
AND FRIENDS, SHALL WE?
HERE WE GO!

(music plays)

Melissa and Daniel appear.

Daniel is in his twenties, with short curly brown hair and he wears glasses, jeans, a yellow shirt and a black cap hat.

Melissa is in her twenties, with long straight brown hair with bangs and she wears black leggings, a green top, a green and black bomber jacket and an orange beanie.

They start dancing.

Mickeey says LET'S GO, GUYS.
HERE WE GO.
STEP IN OUT.
STEP IN OUT.
AND STRUM IN AN L.
STRUM IN AND L.
WOO!
YOU'RE A ROCKSTAR!
ONE MORE TIME.
HERE WE GO.
AND STEP IN OUT.
STEP IN OUT.
AND STRUM
IN AN L.
WAHOO!
[applause]
[slapping]

They clap and high-five.

Mickeey says AND GUESS WHAT.
YOU JUST MOVED
WITH MICKEEY.
SEE YA.

He jumps back in the graffiti.

The clip ends.

Teacher Renée says I FEEL BETTER. HOW ABOUT YOU?
I'M READY TO COME BACK
TO MY NICE, CALM SPOT.
I'M READY TO DO SOME LEARNING.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN
TO A MOVIE THEATRE?
ANYONE REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS
LIKE TO GO TO A MOVIE THEATRE?
LET'S CHECK OUT A PICTURE.

A picture shows 7 kids sitting on the front chairs at a movie theatre.

Teacher Renée says HERE IS A MOVIE THEATRE.
ALL THE CHAIRS ARE
ARRANGED IN ROWS,
THAT MEANS IN LINES.
THEY'RE IN LINES
THAT ARE HORIZONTAL,
AND EVERYONE IS
LOOKING AT THE SCREEN.
I WONDER WHAT MOVIE
THEY'RE GOING TO WATCH.
REMEMBER,
WE TALKED ABOUT DIFFERENT WAYS
OF SOLVING MATH PROBLEMS.
SO, I'M GOING TO
GIVE YOU A MATH PROBLEM
AND WE'RE GOING TO SOLVE IT.
REMEMBER OUR DIFFERENT
WAYS TO SOLVE MATH PROBLEMS?
WE SAID WE COULD
SOLVE MATH PROBLEMS
USING MANIPULATIVES, YES,
LIKE OUR LITTLE
BEARS THAT WE USED,
AND YOU CAN ALSO SOLVE MATH
PROBLEMS BY USING PICTURES.
SO, I'M GOING TO
GIVE YOU SOME QUESTIONS,
AND WE'RE GOING TO USE
PICTURES TO TRY AND SOLVE THEM.
NOW, YOU'RE GOING
TO USE THE PICTURES
AND YOU'RE GOING TO
USE YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS.
DO YOU REMEMBER
WHICH NUMBERS WERE ODD?
ONE, THREE, FIVE,
SEVEN, AND NINE.
GOOD JOB.
DO YOU REMEMBER
WHICH ONES WERE EVEN?
ZERO, RIGHT? REMEMBER ZERO.
ZERO, TWO, FOUR, SIX, AND EIGHT.
ALRIGHT.
LET'S GET TO OUR PROBLEM.

A graph appears on a slide that shows 7 rows of seats at a theatre. The first line has 6 chairs in red. The second is an 8-seat row with seats 1 and 2 crossed out. row 3 has 8 seats all available. Row 4 is an 8 seat row with seats 4, 5, and 6 unavailable. Row 5 is a 10-seat row with seats 6, 7, and 8 unavailable. Row 6 is a 12-seat row with seats 4, 5, and 8 unavailable. Row 7 is a 12-seater with seats 3 to 5 unavailable.

Teacher Renée says THESE ARE THEATRE SEATS.
HERE IS THE ROWS THAT
EVERYONE IS GOING TO SIT IN.
AND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU TODAY
IS I WANT YOU TO FIND YOUR SEAT.
SO, WE'RE GOING TO USE
PICTURES TO TRY AND HELP US.
OUR ROW.
THESE ARE THE ROWS, RIGHT?
THEY'RE SEATS THAT ARE PLACED
AND ORGANIZED IN
HORIZONTAL LINES.
AND THESE ARE THE SEAT NUMBERS,
AND X MEANS YOU CAN'T SIT THERE.
YOU CAN ONLY SIT WHERE
YOU SEE A NUMBER.
IF THERE'S AN X,
YOU CAN'T SIT THERE.
MAYBE IT'S BROKEN,
MAYBE SOMEONE'S
ALREADY SITTING THERE,
CAN'T SIT THERE.
OKAY, YOU READY?
HERE'S YOUR FIRST PROBLEM.
YOU'RE GOING TO SEE A MOVIE.
YOU CAN ONLY SIT
IN AN EVEN-NUMBERED ROW,
AND AN EVEN NUMBERED SEAT.
SO, LET'S THINK ABOUT THAT.
WHERE COULD YOU SIT?
YOU NEED AN EVEN-NUMBERED ROW
AND AN EVEN-NUMBERED SEAT.
LET'S THINK ABOUT
YOUR ROW FIRST.
WHERE COULD YOU SIT?
I'M GOING TO GIVE
YOU SOME THINK TIME.
THINK TIME IS IMPORTANT.
SO, THINK TIME.
EVEN-NUMBERED ROW.
GOT IT? ALRIGHT.
LET'S SEE WHICH ARE
EVEN-NUMBERED ROWS.
TWO, FOUR, AND SIX.
DID YOU PICK ROW
TWO, FOUR, OR SIX?
YES? WELL DONE!
SO, YOU'VE GOT THE RIGHT ROW.
NOW, WHAT ABOUT THE SEAT?
IN ROW TWO,
WHAT SEAT COULD YOU...
WHAT SEAT COULD YOU
SIT IN IN ROW TWO?
YOU COULD SIT IN SEAT
FOUR, SIX, OR EIGHT.
DID YOU PICK ONE OF THOSE?
WHAT ABOUT FOUR ROW?
WHICH SEATS?
SEAT TWO OR SEAT EIGHT.
ALRIGHT, WHAT ABOUT SIX?
YOU HAVE LOTS OF OPTIONS THERE.
YOU CAN SIT IN SEAT TWO, SIX,
10, OR 12.
THE NUMBER 10 AND 12,
THESE ARE TWO-DIGIT NUMBERS,
AND WE'RE GOING TO
FOCUS ON THE LAST DIGIT.
ZERO IS AN EVEN NUMBER
AND SO IS TWO.
SO, DID YOU PICK
ANY ONE OF THESE?
IF YOU PICKED ANY ONE OF
THESE ONES THAT ARE CIRCLED,
YOU'RE RIGHT!
THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT
HAS MANY DIFFERENT ANSWERS.
SO, MAYBE YOU HAVE
A DIFFERENT ANSWER THAN
SOMEONE ELSE IN THE ROOM.
THAT'S OKAY.
AS LONG AS IT'S ONE OF
THESE ONES THAT ARE CIRCLED,
YOU'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.
READY FOR ANOTHER?
OKAY.

The same graph appears.

Teacher Renée says SO, OUR QUESTION FOR THIS ONE
IS I WANT YOU TO FIND
AN ODD-NUMBERED ROW
AND AN ODD-NUMBERED SEAT.
CAN YOU FIND THAT?
AN ODD-NUMBERED ROW
AND AN ODD-NUMBERED SEAT.
DID YOU FIND THEM?
WELL, YOU'D BE
LOOKING AT ROW ONE,
ROW THREE,
FIVE, OR SEVEN.
DID YOU PICK ONE
OF THOSE ROWS?
WELL DONE, BECAUSE THOSE
ARE ODD-NUMBERED ROWS.
WHAT ABOUT
ODD-NUMBERED SEATS?
IN ROW ONE YOU CAN SIT IN
SEAT ONE, THREE, OR FIVE.
IN ROW TWO,
YOU WOULDN'T BE SITTING THERE,
'CAUSE THAT'S AN EVEN NUMBER,
THAT'S RIGHT.
ROW THREE,
YOU COULD SIT IN SEAT ONE,
THREE, FIVE,
OR SEVEN.
ROW FIVE, HERE'S YOUR OPTIONS.
ONE, THREE, FIVE, NINE.
AND SEVEN, THERE YOU GO.
ONE, SEVEN, NINE, AND 11.
IS THAT WHAT YOU GOT?
YES? WELL DONE!
NOW, SINCE YOU ARE SUCH EXPERTS,
I WANT TO SEE
IF I CAN TRICK YOU.
WE'RE GOING TO WORK BACKWARDS.
CHECK THIS OUT.
HERE ARE OUR SEATS.
WE'RE GOING TO
SEE ANOTHER MOVIE,
WE'RE GOING TO PICK A SEAT.
THIS TIME I WANT YOU
TO TELL ME THE RULE.
WHERE ARE YOU ALLOWED TO SIT?
I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU
WHAT THE OPTIONS ARE,
AND YOU'RE GOING TO SEE IF
YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT SEAT,
WHAT RULE WAS THERE
FOR YOU TO SIT.
LET'S SEE.

The same graph appears. Rows 1, 3, 5, and 7 are marked. Then seats 2, 4, and 6 are marked for row 1; seats 2, 4, 6, and 8 are marked for row 3; seats 2, 4, and 10 are marked for row 5; and seats 2, 6, 8, 10, and 12 are marked for row 7.

Teacher Renée says NOW, THIS ONE'S TRICKY.
WHAT ROW
AND WHAT SEAT?
WHAT'S THE RULE?
SO, FOR OUR ROWS,
ARE WE LOOKING AT
ODD OR EVEN NUMBERS?
ODD, THAT'S RIGHT. GOOD.
WHAT ABOUT OUR SEATS?
ODD OR EVEN NUMBERS?
EVEN! WELL DONE.
SO, THE RULE FOR
THIS ONE WOULD BE
TO FIND YOUR SEAT,
YOU NEED TO SIT
AT AN ODD-NUMBERED ROW,
BUT AN EVEN-NUMBERED SEAT.
WELL DONE, YOU'RE EXPERTS NOW.
CAN'T FOOL YOU. GOOD JOB.
THAT WAS SOME GREAT WORK.
NOW, NEXT TIME YOU GO
TO THE MOVIE THEATRE,
YOU'LL BE AN EXPERT ON
HOW TO FIND YOUR SEAT.
YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE
IF YOUR SEAT IN
AN ODD OR EVEN ROW.
REMEMBER, ROWS GO HORIZONTALLY.
AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO
SEE IF YOU ARE SITTING
IN AN ODD OR EVEN SEAT.
NOW, LET'S LOOK AT
A NUMBER LINE FOR A SECOND.
LET'S CHECK OUT OUR SLIDES
AND WE'LL LOOK AT A NUMBER LINE,
AND HOW WE CAN SEE
MATH ALL AROUND US.
SO, WE KNOW WHAT THIS IS?
THIS IS A NUMBER LINE,
THAT'S RIGHT.
IT STARTS AT ZERO,
AND, BECAUSE OF
THE ARROW AT THE END,
IT GOES ON FOREVER.
SO, IT GOES UP TO THE LONGEST,
BIGGEST NUMBER YOU COULD
POSSIBLY THINK OF.
THAT'S HOW LONG THIS
NUMBER LINE WOULD GO.
NOW, WE'RE GOING TO LOOK
AND WE'RE GOING TO LABEL
OUR NUMBERS ODD OR EVEN.
I WANT TO SEE IF YOU CAN
NOTICE ANYTHING INTERESTING.
SO, ZERO. ODD OR EVEN NUMBER?
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
CAN YOU SHARE EQUALLY?
IF I HAVE NOTHING.
I HAVE ZERO BEARS.
HOW MANY BEARS WOULD
YOU HAVE IF I SHARED?
ZERO. THAT'S RIGHT.
SO, ZERO IS AN...
EVEN NUMBER. GOOD.
WHAT ABOUT ONE? ODD OR EVEN?
ONE IS?
ODD. GOOD.
WHAT ABOUT TWO?
ODD OR EVEN?
EVEN, GOOD.
THREE? ODD OR EVEN?
ODD.
FOUR?
EVEN. GOOD. FIVE?
ODD.
SIX?
EVEN, GOOD JOB.
SEVEN?
ODD.
AND EIGHT?
EVEN.
SO, LOOK AT OUR
LABELS AT THE BOTTOM.
WHAT DO YOU NOTICE
ABOUT OUR NUMBERS?
THEY GO EVEN, ODD,
EVEN, ODD, EVEN, ODD.
DO YOU KNOW OUR
SPECIAL MATH WORD FOR THAT?
FOR SOMETHING THAT REPEATS?
IT'S A PATTERN.
YES, THAT'S RIGHT.
IT'S A PATTERN.
RIGHT HERE WE HAVE
A REPEATING PATTERN,
AND THIS PATTERN OF
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS
WILL REPEAT FOREVER
BECAUSE OUR NUMBER LINE
WILL CONTINUE FOREVER.
AND THAT PATTERN OF ODD AND EVEN
NUMBERS WILL NEVER CHANGE.
NOW, WE'VE LOOKED AT
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS
ON A NUMBER LINE,
WE LOOKED AT ODD
AND EVEN NUMBERS
FOR OUR MATH PROBLEM,
ABOUT THE THEATRE CHAIRS,
AND WE EVEN LOOKED AT
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS IN
HOW WE BREAK THEM DOWN,
AND WHY ARE THEY ODD OR EVEN.
BUT I WANT YOU TO
THINK ABOUT SOMETHING.
WHAT ABOUT AROUND YOU?
WHAT ABOUT EVEN WHERE
YOU'RE SITTING RIGHT NOW?
DO YOU NOTICE
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS?
SO, I WENT ON A WALK
AND I TOOK SOME PICTURES.
WANT TO SEE THE PICTURES I TOOK?
WHEN WE LOOK AT THE PICTURES,
I WANT YOU TO SEE
IF YOU CAN SEE
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS.
LET'S SEE.

A picture of a bicycle appears on screen.

Teacher Renée says GOT A BICYCLE.
NOW, ON OUR BICYCLE,
DO YOU NOTICE
ANYTHING THAT WOULD SAY,
"HM, THERE'S AN ODD
AND EVEN NUMBER?"
I'M GOING TO GIVE
YOU SOME THINK TIME.
TAKE A LOOK AT THE BICYCLE.
SO, WHAT DO YOU NOTICE?
LET'S LOOK AT THE SEAT
ON THE BICYCLE.
HOW MANY SEATS DOES
THIS BICYCLE HAVE?
THIS BICYCLE HAS ONE SEAT.
THAT'S RIGHT. ONE SEAT.
ONE, ODD OR EVEN NUMBER?
ODD. GOOD JOB.
ONE IS AN ODD NUMBER.
WHAT ABOUT THE NUMBER OF
WHEELS ON THIS BICYCLE?
NOW, THERE'S A SHADOW
AT THE BOTTOM.
WE'RE NOT GOING TO
COUNT THOSE WHEELS.
JUST THE WHEELS ON THE BICYCLE.
HOW MANY WHEELS ARE
THERE ON THIS BICYCLE?
THERE ARE TWO WHEELS
ON THIS BICYCLE.
GREAT, AND TWO.
ODD OR EVEN NUMBER?
TWO IS AN EVEN NUMBER.
YES, THAT'S RIGHT.
WHAT ABOUT IF WE INCLUDE
THE SHADOW AT THE BOTTOM?
HOW MANY WHEELS DO WE HAVE THEN?
YOU HAVE ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR.
FOUR IS A WHAT KIND OF NUMBER?
ODD OR EVEN?
EVEN, GOOD JOB.
SEE WHAT ELSE WE
FOUND ON OUR WALK.

A picture of a 3-leaf clover appears.

(GASPING)

Teacher Renée says WHAT'S THAT?
YOU KNOW WHAT KIND
OF PLANT THAT IS?
IT'S A CLOVER.
I WANT YOU TO LOOK AT
THE LEAVES ON THIS CLOVER.
THIS ONE'S KIND OF TRICKY
BECAUSE EACH LEAF HAS A LINE
DOWN THE MIDDLE, AND SOMETIMES
THAT LINE DOWN THE MIDDLE
COULD MAKE YOU THINK THAT
THERE ARE TWO LEAVES THERE.
THERE'S NOT TWO LEAVES.
IT'S JUST ONE LEAF WITH A LINE
DOWN THE MIDDLE.
NOW, IF WE COUNT THESE LEAVES,
HOW MANY ARE THERE?
ONE, TWO, THREE.
SO, THREE IS
WHAT KIND OF NUMBER?
IT'S AN EVEN NUMBER. WELL DONE.
LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE WE'VE FOUND.

A picture of a puppy appears.

Teacher Renée says OH, IT'S A DOGGY.
HIS NAME'S CHIP.
HI, CHIP.
LET'S LOOK AT CHIP.
HOW MANY LEGS DOES CHIPPY HAVE?
CHIP, HOW MANY LEGS DO YOU HAVE?
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR.
CHIP HAS FOUR LEGS.
ODD OR EVEN NUMBER?
EVEN, WELL DONE.
WHAT ABOUT HIS NOSE?
HOW MANY NOSES DOES CHIP HAVE?
ONE. ONE NOSE. ODD OR EVEN?
ODD. WELL DONE.
WHAT ELSE?
A SCHOOL BUS.
WE'LL LOOK AT A COUPLE OF
THINGS ON THIS SCHOOL BUS,
BUT YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE
TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION.
LOOK AT THE WHEELS ON THE BUS.
HOW MANY WHEELS DOES
OUR SCHOOL BUS HAVE?
LET'S SEE.
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR.
FOUR WHEELS ON OUR SCHOOL BUS.
WHAT ABOUT THE WORD "BUS?"
CAN YOU SEE ON OUR
SCHOOL BUS WHERE IT SAYS BUS?
YEAH, RIGHT HERE AT THE TOP.
NOW, HOW MANY LETTERS
DOES THE WORD "BUS" HAVE?
ONE, TWO, THREE. THERE YOU GO.
THREE LETTERS. THE WORD
"BUS" HAS THREE LETTERS.
WELL DONE.
WANT ONE MORE?
OKAY, ONE MORE. LET'S SEE.
LET'S SEE IF WE CAN TRICK YOU.
LOOK AT THIS NUMBER ON THE BUS.
SEE THAT BIG LONG NUMBER?
213639.
SEE THAT BIG LONG NUMBER?
NOW, SEE IF YOU CAN USE
EVERYTHING THAT WE LEARNED.
IS THAT BIG LONG
NUMBER ODD OR EVEN?
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
HM.
DID YOU SAY ODD?
YOU'RE RIGHT.
IT IS AN ODD NUMBER.
BUT WHY? HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?
'CAUSE THAT'S
A BIG, HUGE NUMBER.
BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW
THAT'S AN ODD NUMBER?
DID YOU LOOK AT THE NUMBER NINE?
YOU DID? WELL DONE.
SO, YOU KNEW THAT ALL
YOU NEEDED TO LOOK AT,
ALL YOU NEEDED TO FOCUS ON,
WAS THAT LAST DIGIT.
THE NUMBER NINE.
WELL DONE, AND THAT TOLD YOU
THAT THE WHOLE NUMBER
WAS AN ODD NUMBER.
WELL DONE.
DO YOU KNOW WHERE ALL
THOSE PICTURES WERE TAKEN?
THOSE PICTURES WERE TAKEN JUST
WALKING AROUND MY NEIGHBOURHOOD.
I THINK IF YOU TAKE
A WALK AROUND WHERE YOU LIVE,
OR EVEN CHECK OUT THE HOUSE,
I THINK YOU COULD FIND
SOME THINGS THAT HAVE
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS, TOO.
WANT TO SEE SOMETHING COOL?
WE CAN ACTUALLY DO A TRICK
WITH ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS,
AND KNOWING YOUR
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS
WILL HELP MAKE THIS TRICK.
YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO
THIS TRICK AT HOME, TOO.
SO, FOLLOW ALONG AND SEE
WHO YOU CAN TRICK AT HOME.
LET'S WATCH SOME TRICKS
ON MATHXPLOSION.

(music plays)

An animated clip shows a big orange X on a blue background. It explodes and letters and numbers come out of it in all directions and float around.

Mathemagician Eric appears on screen. He's in his mid-twenties. He has short dark brown hair and a beard. He wears a red T-shirt with the show's logo, blue jeans and red Tennis shoes.

The screen turns red and the logo of the show appears next. It reads "MathXplosion." Meanwhile, cones, cubes and dices float around it.

Kids voices sing a song with lyrics that go
WHAT A HIT
IT'S NOT A TRICK
IT'S MATHXPLOSION
JUST FOR YOU
COOL AND NEW
MATHXPLOSION!

Eric stands in his workroom with 3 cups on the table. Two cups are facing up and one cup is facing down.

He says HEY! DID YOU KNOW THAT
IN EXACTLY THREE MOVES,
FLIPPING TWO CUPS
AND ONLY TWO CUPS
AT A TIME IN EACH MOVE,
AND NOT REPEATING
THE SAME MOVE TWICE,
I CAN ARRANGE THESE THREE CUPS
TO ALL FACE DOWN?
DON'T BLINK, IT HAPPENS FAST.
OH, AND WATCH CLOSELY TO BE SURE
I DON'T REPEAT ANY MOVES.
READY? HERE WE GO.

In the first move he flips two cups at the time, one facing up and the other facing down. Then flips the first one back up again and the third one and then the first two that are now facing up he flips down.

He says ONE.
TWO.
THREE.
SEE HOW I FLIPPED TWO CUPS AT
A TIME IN EXACTLY THREE MOVES?
NOT ONE MOVE.
NOT TWO MOVES.
BUT EXACTLY THREE MOVES.

He snaps his finger and pours water from the cups.

He says COOL.
YOU CAN AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS
WITH THIS CLEVER PUZZLE.
THE KEY IS TO FLIP
THE CUPS IN PAIRS.
SO, TWO AT A TIME.
IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT THAT TWO
IS AN EVEN NUMBER.
IN MATH, EVEN MEANS THE NUMBER
CAN BE DIVIDED BY TWO.
YOU NEED TO DO TWO THINGS
TO MAKE THIS WORK.
ARRANGE THE CUPS THE RIGHT WAY
SO YOU CAN SOLVE THE PUZZLE.

The cups at the ends are facing up and the cup in the middle is facing down.

Eric says NEXT, DISTRACT YOUR AUDIENCE.
LOOK AT THE SQUIRREL! OKAY.
IN THIS CASE,
THREE MOVES ARE THE DISTRACTION.
YOU CAN PICK ANY NUMBER.
FRANKLY, IT WOULD BE OVER TOO
FAST IF I SOLVED IT IN ONE MOVE.

He demonstrates flipping down the two cups at the end.

Then he puts them back up and says THREE IS MORE FUN.
START WITH ONE CUP DOWN,
TWO CUPS UP.
THAT MEANS TWO CUPS WILL NEED
TO BE FLIPPED DOWN.
THINK OF ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS.
I CAN SOLVE THE PUZZLE
BECAUSE THE NUMBER OF CUPS
I HAVE TO FLIP DOWN
IS AN EVEN NUMBER.
IF THE NUMBER OF CUPS TO FLIP
DOWN IS AN ODD NUMBER.
THAT JUST WON'T WORK.
ONE CUP WILL ALWAYS
FACE THE WRONG WAY.
WHEN YOU FLIP TWO CUPS
AT A TIME, THERE ARE ONLY
THREE MOVES YOU CAN MAKE.
FLIP CUPS ONE AND TWO.
FLIP CUPS TWO AND THREE.
OR ONE AND THREE, LIKE SO.
ONE.
TWO.
AND LOOKY HERE, THREE.
TA-DA!
ALL CUPS ARE FACE DOWN.

Eric now draws a button on a chalkboard and says THIS CUP TRICK ISN'T
THE ONLY ODD THING
YOU CAN DO WITH ODD
AND EVEN NUMBERS.

An animation shows two boys and a jar full of cookies to share.

Eric says WHEN YOU DIVIDE AN EVEN
NUMBER OF OBJECTS BY TWO,
YOU CAN ALWAYS SHARE
EQUALLY BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE.
IF THERE ARE SIX COOKIES,
SIX IS AN EVEN NUMBER
AND TWO PEOPLE CAN HAVE
AN EQUAL NUMBER OF COOKIES.
THREE EACH.
BUT IF YOU TRY AND DIVIDE
SEVEN COOKIES BY TWO,
YOU WILL HAVE ONE
COOKIE LEFT OVER
BECAUSE SEVEN IS AN ODD NUMBER.
CHALLENGE YOUR FRIENDS TO GET
ALL THREE CUPS TO FACE UP.
BUT START WITH ONLY
ONE CUP FACING DOWN.
YOU KNOW IT CAN'T BE DONE
BECAUSE ONE IS NOT
AN EVEN NUMBER.
IT'S ODD NUMBER.
BUT THEY CAN KEEP TRYING
AND TRYING AND TRYING.
(LAUGHING)

He laughs and says IT'S NOT MAGIC. IT'S MATH.

The clip ends.

Teacher Renée says WHAT A FUN TRICK.
I THINK WHAT I'M GOING
TO DO AFTERWARDS,
IS I'M GOING TO GET SOME CUPS
AND SEE WHO I CAN TRICK
WITH MY ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS.
LOOK AT ALL THE AMAZING
THINGS THAT WE LEARNED TODAY.
WE LEARNED ALL ABOUT
ODD AND EVEN NUMBERS.
WE LEARNED ONE, THREE,
FIVE, SEVEN, AND NINE
ARE ODD NUMBERS.
WE LEARNED ZERO, TWO,
FOUR, SIX, AND EIGHT
ARE EVEN NUMBERS.
WE ALSO STARTED LOOKING AT
HOW MATH IS ALL AROUND US.
MATH IS IN YOUR HOUSE,
MATH IS OUT IN THE COMMUNITY,
MATH IS ALL OVER.
AND WE ALSO LOOKED AT DIFFERENT
WAYS TO SOLVE MATH PROBLEMS.
WE TALKED ABOUT USING
PICTURES, WORDS,
NUMBERS, AND MANIPULATIVES,
AND WE GOT SOME HELP FROM
OUR FRIENDS, THE BEARS.
YOU DID A WONDERFUL JOB TODAY.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING,
LISTENING,
AND PAYING ATTENTION.
I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE
A WONDERFUL DAY,
AND I'LL SEE YOU SOON.
BYE!

Now music plays as the end credits for Power Hour of Learning roll.

A caption reads "TVO Kids would like to thank all the teachers involved in the Power Hour of Learning as they continue to teach the children of Ontario from their homes."
