Transcript: What's your season? | Primary Lesson | TVOkids
A female narrator says, “WELCOME TO
TVO KIDS POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.”
Text reads, “Today’s junior lesson,
What’s Your Season”
Andrea begins,
“HI, EVERYONE.
I'M TEACHER ANDREA
AND WELCOME
TO TVO'S POWER HOUR
OF LEARNING.
I'M SO EXCITED
YOU COULD JOIN ME TODAY
BECAUSE TODAY WE'RE GOING TO BE
EXPLORING THE SEASONS.
IN CANADA AND OTHER COUNTRIES,
WE HAVE FOUR SEASONS.
THIS MEANS CHANGES
IN WEATHER,
TEMPERATURE,
AND DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.
LET'S GET STARTED
BY NAMING THE FOUR SEASONS.
SO, TAKE A MOMENT
AND THINK ABOUT IT.
WHAT ARE THE FOUR SEASONS
THAT WE HAVE HERE IN CANADA?
LET'S WRITE THIS
ON THE BOARD TOGETHER.”
Andrea takes out a marker and approaches
a large piece of paper labeled “The
Four Seasons”.
She continues,
”OUR FIRST SEASON...
AND THIS ISN'T
IN ANY ORDER,
SO JUST CALL IT OUT
TO ME.
I THINK I HEARD SOMEONE
SAY SUMMER.
SO, SUMMER IS A SEASON
WE HAVE HERE IN CANADA.”
Andrea writes “Summer” on the page in
red marker.
She continues,
“WHAT'S ANOTHER SEASON
WE HAVE?
SOMEONE SAID FALL,
AND THAT WOULD BE CORRECT.”
Andrea writes fall on the page.
She adds,
“OUR THIRD SEASON?
MAYBE THIS IS
YOUR FAVOURITE SEASON.
WINTER!
ALL RIGHT, WINTER.”
Andrea writes winter on the page.
She continues,
“AND OUR LAST SEASON?
THAT'S RIGHT- SPRING.”
Andrea writes spring.
She goes on to say,
“NOW, EACH OF THESE SEASONS
BRINGS DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES,
DIFFERENT TYPES
OF WEATHERS,
AND THAT MEANS
DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.
SO, IN THE SUMMER
WE MIGHT GET TO WEAR
OUR SHORT SLEEVES AND SHORTS,
IN THE FALL IS WHEN WE START
TO SEE THE LEAVES CHANGE COLOUR,
IN THE WINTER IS WHEN WE PUT ON
OUR HEAVY JACKETS,
OUR MITTS AND OUR HATS,
AND WE GET TO DO SOME
PRETTY GOOD ACTIVITIES
LIKE TOBOGGANING
AND SKATING.
AND IN THE SPRING IS WHEN
WE START TO HEAR THE BIRDS
START TO CHIRP
AND THE WEATHER STARTS
TO GET A LITTLE NICER.
NOW, LET'S JOIN
THE CANADA CREW, MO AND BEBE,
AS THEY EXPLORE
THE VARIOUS SEASONS.”
Rain falls outside Bebe the beaver’s
dam. Bebe looks out the window.
(sighing)
Mo the moose reads a book.
Bebe looks at him. Then turns back
to the window.
(Sighing louder)
Mo asks,
“WHAT'S THE MATTER,
BEBE?”
Bebe replies,
“WELL, WE'VE BEEN COOPED UP
IN HERE ALL WINTER
AND NOW THAT IT'S FINALLY
SPRINGTIME,
IT'S RAIN, RAIN,
AND MORE RAIN!”
Mo says, “I WISH IT WOULD
STOP TOO, BEBE,
BUT THERE'S NOTHING
WE CAN DO ABOUT IT.”
(gasping)
Bebe asks, “OR IS THERE?”
Mo asks, “HM?”
(Clearing throat)
Bebe sings,
“RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY
COME AGAIN ANOTHER--
(Gasping)
The sun shines as the rain stops
Bebe says, “--DAY?”
Mo adds, “WHOA!”
Bebe replies, “HEY, IT WORKED!
I DID IT,
I MADE THE RAIN STOP!”
(Laughing)
Mo says, “WOULD YOU
LOOK AT THAT?
NICE WORK, BEBE!”
Bebe responds,
“WHY, THANK YOU,
MY GOOD MOOSE.”
(Giggling)
(Thunder crashing)
Mo and Bebe say, “WHOA!"
It rains again.
Mo adds, “AH.
CHECKERS, MAYBE?”
Bebe tilts her head.
A female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI
NEW BRUNSWICK,
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
QUEBEC, ONTARIO, MANITOBA
AND THERE ARE MORE
BC, ALBERTA,
SASKATCHEWAN
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES,
NUNAVUT, YUKON
BEBE, MO, AND GAVIN
WE'RE THE CANADA CREW
LET'S GO EXPLORE CANADA TOO
CANADA CREW!”
Text reads, “The Canada Crew.
Created by Ben Mazzotta”
The Canadian flag flaps in the
wind as rain falls on Bebe’s dam.
Text reads, “Seasons”
Bebe rests her chin on her fist as
she sits at a table. Mo approaches her.
(Sighing)
Mo says, “HEY, BEBE.”
Bebe replies, “HEY, MO.”
Mo asks, “STILL DOWN
ABOUT THE RAIN?”
Bebe responds,
“HOW CAN YOU TELL?”
Mo says, “WELL, I'VE GOT
JUST THE THING
THAT'LL LIFT
YOUR SPIRITS.”
Bebe says, “OH, YEAH?”
Mo nods.
He says. “MM-HM.”
(Chuckling)
(Grunting)
Mo rests a scrapbook on the table.
Mo says, “TA-DA!”
Bebe replies, “AH!”
Mo adds, “IT'S A SCRAPBOOK I MADE
JUST FOR YOU.
IT'S CALLED
THE FOUR SEASONS
OF BEBE AND MO!”
Bebe responds, “AW!”
Mo continues,
“CHECK IT OUT!”
(Giggling)
Mo says, “HERE WE GO. YEAH.
AS YOU KNOW,
CANADA HAS FOUR SEASONS.”
Text on the pages of the scrapbook
read, “Spring, Summer, Fall,
and Winter
Mo continues,
“FIRST WE HAVE SPRINGTIME.
THE SNOW MELTS,
THE DAYS ARE STARTING
TO GET LONGER.
THE FLOWERS AND PLANTS
ARE BLOOMING--”
Bebe interrupts, “AND IT'S RAINING.
ALL THE TIME.
HMPH.”
Mo says, “WELL,
NOT ALL THE TIME.
NEXT COMES SUMMER,
THE WARMEST SEASON OF ALL!”
Flashback. Bebe buries Mo under sand
on a beach.
Bebe adds, “AW, SUMMER.
THE SUN IS SHINING BRIGHT,
THE DAYS ARE LONGER,
THE FLOWERS AND PLANTS
ARE FULL-GROWN.
IT'S GLORIOUS!”
(Mo chuckling)
Bebe continues, “HEY,
I REMEMBER THAT DAY!
I TOTALLY
BURIED YOU GOOD.
HEH HEH!”
Mo responds, “YEAH.
IT TOOK ME WEEKS TO GET
ALL THE SAND OUTTA MY FUR.”
(Giggling)
Mo adds, “THEN COMES FALL.
THE WEATHER IS STARTING
TO CHANGE.
IT GETS COLDER
AND THE DAYS GET SHORTER.”
Bebe interrupts,
“AND THE BEST PART IS ALL
THE LEAVES ON THE TREES
CHANGE COLOURS
AND FALL TO THE GROUND.”
Mo says, “OH, YEAH!”
(Chuckling)
Mo adds, “MY FAVOURITE.
AND THEN FINALLY
COMES WINTER!
THE WEATHER
IS MUCH COLDER.
YOU HAVE TO DRESS WARM.
THE DAYS
ARE MUCH SHORTER,
THE TREES HAVE LOST
ALL THEIR LEAVES.”
Bebe says, “OH, OH, AND THERE'S
LOTS AND LOTS OF SNOW
TO BUILD STUFF
LIKE SNOW MOOSES!”
(Chuckling)
Bebe adds, “AW.”
Mo responds, “AH, FUN TIMES.”
(Sighing)
Bebe adds,
“YEAH. HEHE.”
(Goose honking)
Mo says,
“YOU KNOW WHAT THAT
SOUND MEANS!”
Bebe replies, “UH-HUH!”
Mo continues,
“IT'S GAVIN THE GOOSE!”
(Giggling)
Bebe responds,
“I WONDER WHERE
HE'S CALLING FROM TODAY.”
Mo replies, “HMM.”
Mo picks up an orange tablet.
He accepts a video chat from
Gavin, the Canada Goose.
(Beeping)
Gavin says, “HELLO? HELLO?”
Mo replies, “GAVIN?”
Gavin asks, “IS THAT YOU, MO?”
Mo answers, “YEAH,
AND BEBE'S HERE TOO.”
Gavin says, “OH, HEY BEBE!
KINDA HARD TO SEE YOU
WITH ALL THIS FOG EVERYWHERE.
COOL THOUGH, ISN'T IT?”
Mo adds, “I'LL SAY!
I'VE NEVER SEEN
SO MUCH FOG
IN ALL MY LIFE!”
Gavin says,
“ME NEITHER!
I CAN BARELY SEE
MY OWN WINGS!
WHERE'D YOU GO?
WHE--
OH, THERE YOU ARE.”
(Chuckling)
Bebe asks,
“WHERE ARE YOU,
GAVIN?”
Gavin answers,
“THE LAST I CHECKED,
I WAS IN THE GRAND BANKS,
IN THE PROVINCE OF
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR.
Newfoundland and Labrador are
highlighted on a red map of Canada.
Gavin continues,
“THE FOGGIEST PLACE
ON EARTH!”
Text reads, “Fun Fact”
Gavin adds, “FOG IS A CLOUD!
BUT INSTEAD OF BEING
HIGH IN THE SKY,
IT'S CLOSE TO THE GROUND.
WELL, I'M OFF TO
MY NEXT DESTINATION.
TALK SOON!”
(Chuckling)
Gavin swims into the side
of a tugboat.
(Clanging)
(Foghorn sound)
Gavin says, “ON SECOND THOUGHT,
MAYBE I'LL WAIT
UNTIL THE FOG CLEARS.”
(Groaning)
Gavin slides down the side of the boat.
Mo says, “SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA,
GAVIN.”
Bebe adds, “YEAH.”
Mo adds, “SEE YA.”
Bebe states, “OH, OH, HEY!
I HAVE AN IDEA!
WHY DON'T WE CALL DAVE
AT THE WEATHER OFFICE?
I'M SURE HE CAN TELL US
WHEN IT'S GONNA STOP RAINING.”
Mo says, “YEAH,
GREAT IDEA, BEBE!”
(Dialing)
Dave says, “HI THERE, YOU TWO!”
Mo replies, “HI, DAVE!”
Dave asks,
“HOW CAN I HELP YOU TODAY?”
Mo answers,
“UH, WE'RE CALLING TO SEE
WHAT THE WEATHER FORECAST IS.”
Dave adds, “WELL, CANADA'S
A REALLY BIG COUNTRY,
SO THE WEATHER CAN BE DIFFERENT
DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE.”
Bebe asks, “SO, WHAT'S THE WEATHER
GONNA BE LIKE WHERE WE LIVE?”
Dave responds,
“WELL, LET'S LOOK AT MY WEATHER
TRACKING COMPUTER TO FIND OUT.”
Dave points at a location in northern
Ontario on a map on his computer.
Dave continues, “HMM. SEE THIS HERE?
IT'S REALLY, REALLY BIG CLOUD
FULL OF RAIN,
WHICH MEANS IT LOOKS LIKE RAIN
FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.”
Bebe says, “AH, NUTS!
I WISH
IT NEVER RAINED!”
(Chuckling)
Dave replies,
“DON'T SAY THAT, BEBE.
AS MUCH AS
YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT,
RAIN IS VERY IMPORTANT.
AND ALL OF THE PLANTS
AND THE FLOWERS,
THEY NEED TO GROW AGAIN
IN THE SPRING.
AND WHAT DO THEY NEED
TO GROW BIG AND STRONG?”
Bebe answers, “SUNSHINE!
LOTS AND LOTS
OF SUNSHINE!”
Dave replies,
“YOU'RE RIGHT, SUNSHINE,
BUT THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE
THAT THEY NEED.”
Bebe says, “WATER.”
Dave says, “EXACTLY,
AND THAT IS WHY RAIN IS SO
IMPORTANT IN THE SPRINGTIME!”
Bebe responds, “I GUESS.”
Mo says, “THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,
DAVE.”
Dave replies, “MY PLEASURE, YOU TWO.”
Mo puts away the tablet
He says, “WAIT A SECOND!”
Bebe asks, “WHAT?”
(Chuckling)
Mo continues,
“I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T
THINK OF THIS SOONER!”
Bebe asks, “WHAT? WHAT?!”
(Chuckling)
Mo adds, “JUST BECAUSE IT'S RAINING
DOESN'T MEAN WE CAN'T
GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY ANYWAY.”
(Gasping)
Bebe says, “HEY, YOU'RE
TOTALLY RIGHT!
SO WE GET A LITTLE WET.
NO BIG DEAL.”
Mo looks unsure.
He says, “RIGHT.”
Bebe adds, “WE'LL JUMP AND SPLASH
IN ALL THE PUDDLES!”
Mo says, “OH, YEAH, TOTALLY!
YEAH.”
Bebe states, “OH, THIS IS
GONNA BE GREAT!
COME ON, MO, LET'S GET GOING
BEFORE THE RAIN STOPS!”
Mo says, “OH, BUT-- BUT BEBE,
WHAT ARE WE GONNA--”
The female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI
NEW BRUNSWICK,
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
QUEBEC, ONTARIO, MANITOBA
AND THERE ARE MORE
BC, ALBERTA,
SASKATCHEWAN
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES,

“BECAUSE WE HAVE DIFFERENT
SEASONS IN CANADA,
IT MEANS THAT WE CAN HAVE
DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.
LET'S REJOIN THE CANADA CREW,
MO AND BEBE,
AS THEY EXPLORE ONE OF CANADA'S
FAVOURITE SPORTS.”
(Wind whooshing)
Bebe skates on a frozen lake near
a mountain.
She says, “OH, HERE COMES NUMBER 1
FOR THE FOREST FLYERS,
SKATING DOWN THE ICE!
IT'S CANADIAN HOCKEY SUPERSTAR
BEBE THE BEAVER!”
(Panting)
Bebe continues, “SHE SHOOTS--”
Bebe shoots a puck at a net made of
wooden logs.
Bebe says, “SHE SCORES!
AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!”
(Giggling)
Bebe adds, “AND NOW, SKATING
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER,
GIVE IT UP
FOR BEBE'S TEAMMATE,
MO THE MOOSE!”
Mo shakes his head
He replies, “NN-MM.
NN-MM, NN-MM, NN-MM!”
Bebe says, “MO?”
Mo responds, “I--
I CAN'T DO IT, BEBE.
MOOSE WERE DEFINITELY
NOT BUILT FOR SKATING.”
Bebe says, “OH, NONSENSE.
IF I CAN DO IT,
SO CAN YOU, MO.”
Mo asks, “BUT-- BUT--
WHAT IF I FALL?”
Bebe replies,
“FALLING IS NORMAL, MO.
I FELL LOTS OF TIMES
WHEN I WAS LEARNING TO SKATE.”
Mo responds, “YOU DID?”
Bebe adds,
“BUT I GOT RIGHT BACK UP
AND TRIED, TRIED,
TRIED AGAIN.”
Mo says,
“WELL, ALL RIGHT, THEN.”
(Grunting)
Mo continues, “HERE--
I GO!
(Straining)
Mo skates backwards.
He says, “WHOA. WHOA!”
Bebe adds,
“YEAH, THAT'S IT, MO.
LOOKIN' REALLY GOOD!”
Mo replies, “WHOA, WHOA!
WHOA, WHOA-WHOA-WHOA!”
Bebe instructs,
“TURN, TURN, TURN!”
(Mo screaming)
Mo says, “YEESH.”
Bebe adds, “TRY--
UH, MO, YOU MIGHT
WANNA LOOK OUT FOR THAT--”
(Crashing)
Bebe continues, “--SNOWBANK.”
Mo’s feet stick out the top of
a snowbank.
(Sighing)
The female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI
NEW BRUNSWICK,
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
QUEBEC, ONTARIO, MANITOBA
AND THERE ARE MORE
BC, ALBERTA,

WE'RE THE CANADA CREW

CANADA CREW!”
Text reads, “The Canada Crew.
Created by Ben Mazzotta”
The Canadian flag flaps in the
breeze as snow falls on Bebe’s dam.
Text reads, “Sports”
(Wind Whooshing)
Mo looks at the orange tablet. Bebe
rushes to him carrying a hockey stick.
(Panting)
Bebe says,
“THE CLOCK TICKS DOWN
THE SECONDS
AS BEBE SKATES
DOWN THE ICE!”
Bebe runs away from Mo.
Mo asks, “HMM.
DID YOU KNOW
THAT HOCKEY
IS CANADA'S OFFICIAL
WINTER SPORT, BEBE?”
Bebe replies, “OH, I CAN SEE WHY!
IT'S AWESOME!
SHE TAKES LEFT,
THEN RIGHT.
OH, WHADDA MOVE!”
Mo continues, “IT EVEN SAYS HERE
THAT CANADIANS INVENTED
THE GAME OF HOCKEY.”
Bebe responds, “YOU DON'T SAY.
HUH.
SHE TAKES THE SHOT!”
(Clatter)
The puck bounces around the dam.
Mo and Bebe duck.
(Clanging)
Bebe says, “WHOA!”
(Clatter)
She adds, “OOPSY.
OH, BOY, OH, BOY,
I JUST LOVE
PLAYING HOCKEY!”
Bebe sings,
“I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH
JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH”
OF THAT SWEET OLD HOCKEY GAME”
(Laughing)
Mo says, “OH, CHECK THIS OUT!
IT SAYS THE FIRST ORGANIZED
INDOOR HOCKEY GAME
WAS PLAYED IN THE CITY
OF MONTREAL
Mo scrolls through black and white
hockey photos on the tablet.
Bebe replies, “WHOA!
COOL OLD TIMEY UNIFORMS!”
Mo adds, “NOT LONG AFTER THAT,
ALL KINDS OF HOCKEY LEAGUES
WERE STARTED,
AND HOCKEY TURNED INTO THE GAME
WE KNOW AND LOVE TODAY.”
Bebe responds, “COOL!
HEHE.”
(Goose honking)
Bebe says,
“OH, YOU KNOW WHAT
THAT SOUND MEANS-
IT'S GAVIN CALLING!”
Mo responds, “I WONDER WHERE
HE'S CALLING FROM TODAY.”
Mo answers a video chat from Gavin.
(Beeping)
Gavin sits in the front row of a
packed arena.
He says, “OH, HEY YOU TWO!
OH, GO-GO-GO-GO-GO, YEAH!”
Gavin watches a lacrosse game.
(Laughing, crowd cheering)
Mo asks, “HEY, GAVIN.
WHERE ARE YOU TODAY?”
Gavin answers, “I'M HERE
AT A LACROSSE GAME.
IT'S CANADA'S OFFICIAL
SUMMER SPORT, YOU KNOW.”
Bebe responds, “LACROSSE?
WHAT'S THAT?”
Gavin replies, “IT'S A SPORT
THAT'S KINDA LIKE HOCKEY
EXCEPT THERE ARE
A FEW DIFFERENCES.
CAN YOU SEE
WHAT THEY ARE?”
Bebe says,
“HMM, THE PLAYERS WEAR HELMETS
AND HAVE PADDING LIKE HOCKEY,
BUT GET AROUND
BY RUNNING ON A FLOOR
INSTEAD OF
SKATING ON ICE.
HMM.”
Mo adds, “OH, AND--
AND ALL THEIR STICKS
HAVE A BASKET
ON THE END OF IT,
WHICH THEY USE TO PASS
AND SHOOT THE BALL?”
A goal is scored at the lacrosse game
(Crowd cheering)
Bebe says, “WOW, SWEET GOAL!
HAHA.”
Text reads, “Fun Fact”
Gavin says,
“LACROSSE WAS INVENTED
BY FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE
HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS
OF YEARS AGO,
MAKING IT THE OLDEST SPORT
IN CANADA.”
(Chuckling)
(Gasping)
Bebe asks, “SO LACROSSE IS OLDER
THAN HOCKEY?”
Gavin answers, “OH, YEAH.
IT'S ONE OF THE FIRST SPORTS
PLAYED HERE IN CANADA.”
Bebe says, “HEY, WE SHOULD START
OUR OWN LACROSSE TEAM!
HOCKEY IN THE WINTER
AND LACROSSE IN THE SUMMER!”
Mo responds, “HO-HO!”
Gavin adds, “GREAT IDEA, BEBE!
I'M AN EXCELLENT GOALIE.”
A ball hits Gavin in the head. He falls.
(Boinking)
He gets up.
Gavin says, “SEE WHAT I MEAN?”
(Dizzy groaning)
Gavin falls again
Mo replies, “HEH. SEE YA, GAVIN.”
Bebe adds, “BYE, GAVIN!”
(Giggling)
Bebe says, “HEY, MO?”
Mo replies, “HM?”
Bebe asks, “WHAT SAY WE HIT THE RINK
FOR SOME MORE PRACTICE?”
Mo responds, “I-- UH, BEBE,
I DON'T KNOW.”
Bebe says, “WELL, PRACTICE MAKES
PERFECT, YOU KNOW.
PLUS, I HAVE A LITTLE
SURPRISE FOR YOU!”
Mo looks surprised.
He says, “REALLY?”
Bebe nods.
She replies, “MM-HM.”
Mo and Bebe wear hockey helmets
as they stand behind the boards at
an indoor hockey rink.
(Gasping)
Bebe says, “HEY, LOOK, MO.
IT'S DARRYL SITTLER-
HE'S MY FAVOURITE
HOCKEY PLAYER OF ALL TIME!”
Mo adds, “PRETTY NEAT.”
Darryl says, “HEY THERE, YOU TWO!”
Bebe replies, “HI, DARRYL!”
Darryl skates toward Mo and Bebe.
He says, “HEY, MO.
BEBE TELLS ME YOU NEED
A LITTLE HELP WITH YOUR SKATING.”
Mo responds, “OH, YEAH.
I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER
LEARN HOW TO SKATE.”
Darryl replies, “SURE YOU WILL.
IT JUST TAKES
A LITTLE BIT OF PRACTICE.”
Mo asks, “WELL, WAS IT HARD
FOR YOU TO LEARN
HOW TO SKATE
AND PLAY HOCKEY?”
Darryl answers,
“IT'S A LITTLE HARD,
BUT YOU JUST--
YOU NEVER GIVE UP.
YOU JUST KEEP
WORKIN' ON IT.”
Bebe asks,
“WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART
ABOUT PLAYING HOCKEY?”
Darryl responds,
“I JUST LOVE IT.
YOU GET THE FANS,
SCORE A GOAL,
THEY CHEER FOR YA.”
Bebe adds, “AND YOU GET TO BE
ON A TEAM,
AND YOU GET
TO SCORE GOALS,
AND IF YOU'RE THE GOALIE,
YOU GET TO MAKE AMAZING SAVES
LIKE-- CHA!
OR, UM, UH-- TAA!
OR, UM-- PING!”
(Giggling)
Darryl says,
“AND ALL THAT STUFF TOO.
COME ON, MO,
LET'S GET YA SKATING.”
Bebe continues,
“OKAY, COME ON, MO.
LET'S GO!
LET'S GO, LET'S GO!”
Mo replies, “NO-- DON'T PUSH--”
He steps onto the ice.
Darryl says, “TAKE MY HAND.
I GOT YOU.
NICE AND EASY,
GOOD JOB.
DON'T WORRY,
I GOTCHA.”
Mo replies, “OKAY. OKAY.”
Bebe adds, “LET'S GO SKATING!”
She holds her hockey stick as she
skates onto the ice.
Mo says, “WHOA! UNGH.”
Bebe says, “AH, AND SHE
TAKES A SHOT.”
(Puck whooshing)
Bebe adds, “AND SHE SCORES!
I'M AWESOME!”
Darryl lets go of Mo’s hand.
Mo says, “WHAT--
HUH? WHA?
HA! HEY!”
Darryl says, “CHECK IT OUT, MO.
YOU'RE SKATING!”
Mo adds, “AH! HEY, I'M SKATING!
I'M DOING IT!
BEBE, LOOK AT ME!
WHOA!
WHOA!”
(Chuckling)
Bebe says, “WAY TO GO, MO!”
Mo adds, “YEAH!”
Daryl continues,
“AND ONCE YOU LEARN
HOW TO SKATE,
NOW YOU CAN PLAY HOCKEY.”
Mo replies, “WHOA, I CAN'T
WA--
WHOA, WHOA!
--WAIT.”
(Chuckling)
Mo adds, “’SCUSE ME.”
Mo skates around the rink.
The female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Text continues, “Little Engine

Andrea adds, “NOW, LET'S DO
SOME MORE EXPLORING
ABOUT THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES
YOU CAN DO DURING THE SEASONS.
FOR THIS NEXT ACTIVITY,
I'M GONNA NEED YOUR HELP.
HERE I HAVE AN ACTIVITY
OF KIDS SWIMMING.
WHERE DO YOU THINK
THIS ACTIVITY MIGHT GO?
DO YOU THINK THIS IS
A SUMMER, FALL,
WINTER,
OR SPRING ACTIVITY?
NOW, NORMALLY,
WE MIGHT THINK OF THIS ACTIVITY
AS A SUMMER ACTIVITY.
BUT BECAUSE WE HAVE
INDOOR SWIMMING POOLS,
IT'S POSSIBLE FOR US
TO SWIM IN THE FALL,
THE SPRING,
AND THE WINTER.
SO, THIS ACTIVITY IS REALLY
AN ALL-YEAR-ROUND ACTIVITY.
SO, LET'S PUT IT IN THE SPRING,
JUST FOR NOW.”
Andrea sticks a cartoon of three kids
swimming on the section of the paper
labeled “Spring”.
Andrea adds,
“HOW ABOUT THIS NEXT ACTIVITY-
SKIING?
SKIING IS A WINTER ACTIVITY
BECAUSE IN ORDER TO SKI,
YOU NEED SNOW,
AND THAT WE WOULD FIND
IN THE WINTER.
SO, LET'S PUT OUR SKIING
ACTIVITY IN OUR WINTER COLUMN.”
Andrea sticks a picture of a girl
holding skis under the title “Winter”.
She continues,
“HOW ABOUT PLAYING SOCCER?
WHERE DO YOU THINK
YOU MIGHT PLACE THIS ONE?
I'LL GIVE YOU A MOMENT
TO THINK ABOUT IT.”
Andrea puts tape on a picture
of kids playing soccer.
She says, “IF YOU SAID EITHER
SUMMER, FALL, OR SPRING,
I THINK YOU'D BE CORRECT.
BECAUSE THIS ACTIVITY,
AS LONG AS THE WEATHER
IS PRETTY GOOD,
WE'RE ABLE TO DO
THIS KIND OF ACTIVITY.
SO, WE CAN PUT IT
IN THE SUMMER,
WE COULD PUT IT
IN THE FALL,
OR WE COULD DO IT
IN THE SPRING.
UNFORTUNATELY, SOCCER OUTSIDE
WOULDN'T BE A WINTER SPORT.
LET'S PUT IT
IN THE FALL FOR NOW.”
Andrea sticks the soccer picture under
the title “Fall”.
She continues, “HOW ABOUT
THIS NEXT ACTIVITY?
MAYBE YOU'VE
DONE THIS ACTIVITY
WITH YOUR FRIENDS
OR YOUR FAMILY-
BUILDING A SNOWMAN?
IF YOU SAID WINTER
YOU'D BE RIGHT,
BECAUSE THIS ACTIVITY REQUIRES
SOME GOOD PACKING SNOW.”
Andrea stick a picture of kids building
a snowman under the picture of the
girl with the skis.
Andrea says, “SO, LET'S PUT THIS ACTIVITY
IN OUR WINTER SECTION.”
Andrea picks up another picture.
She asks, “HOW ABOUT
THIS ONE RIGHT HERE?
ENJOYING A DAY
AT THE BEACH.
I THINK THIS ACTIVITY--
YOU'RE RIGHT.
I'D PUT IT
IN THE SUMMER SECTION.”
SO, LET'S PUT OUR BEACH DAY
IN THE SUMMER SECTION.
Andrea sticks a picture of two girls
standing on the beach with a flamingo
in the summer section.
Andrea continues,
“AND HOW ABOUT THIS ACTIVITY
RIGHT HERE- SKATING?
PERHAPS YOU'VE DONE
THIS ACTIVITY.
THIS ACTIVITY REQUIRES
THE ICE TO FREEZE
AND BECOME A FROZEN LAKE
OR A FROZEN POND
SO THAT
WE CAN SKATE ON IT.
THIS REQUIRES THE WEATHER
TO BE QUITE COLD,
SO WHERE DO YOU THINK
WE MIGHT PUT THIS?
IF YOU SAID OUR WINTER SECTION,
YOU'D BE RIGHT.”
Andrea add a picture of two girls
skating to the other pictures in the
winter section.
She continues, “AND WHAT ABOUT
OUR LAST ACTIVITY HERE?
HERE ARE TWO KIDS
PLAYING ON THE MONKEY BARS.
WHERE WOULD
THIS ACTIVITY GO?
IF YOU SAID THE SUMMER,
THE FALL, OR THE SPRING,
I THINK YOU'D BE RIGHT,
BECAUSE WE JUST NEED THE WEATHER
TO BE A LITTLE BIT BETTER
FOR THIS ACTIVITY TO HAPPEN.
BUT, SINCE THE KIDS ARE WEARING
SHORT-SLEEVE SHIRTS,
AND WE USUALLY DO THAT
WHEN THE WEATHER IS REALLY NICE,
LET'S PUT THIS
IN OUR SUMMER SECTION.”
Andrea sticks a picture of two kids hanging
from monkey bars under the beach picture.
Andrea adds,
“AND THERE WE HAVE ALL
OUR SEASONAL ACTIVITIES.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR YOUR HELP.
I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.
NOW, IN ADDITION
TO ACTIVITIES
THAT WE HAVE
IN OUR VARIOUS SEASONS,
WE ALSO HAVE FESTIVALS.
LET'S GO AND VISIT
A VERY SPECIAL WINTER FESTIVAL
WE HAVE RIGHT HERE
IN CANADA.”
A graphic reads, “TVO K News”
A dark-haired man with glasses says,
“WELCOME BACK TO TVOK NEWS!
NOW, WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART
ABOUT WINTER?
FOR ME,
IT'S DEFINITELY THE SNOW.
THE MORE, THE BETTER!
THERE'S SO MUCH
I LIKE TO DO IN THE SNOW.
TOBOGGAN, SNOWSHOE,
I LIKE TO GET OUT THERE
WITH MY FRIENDS
AND MAKE SNOW ANGELS
AND BUILD FORTS.
SO MUCH FUN!
IF YOU'RE A SNOW PERSON
LIKE ME,
YOU WOULD LOVE
THE QUEBEC WINTER CARNIVAL.
CARNIVAL DE QUÉBEC.
IT'S ONE OF THE LARGEST
WINTER FESTIVALS IN THE WORLD.
NOW, I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY
BEEN TO THE CARNIVAL,
BUT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED
TO GO.
MAYBE THIS YEAR
WILL BE MY LUCKY YEAR!
IT STARTS THIS FRIDAY,
FEBRUARY THE 8TH,
AND GOES UNTIL SUNDAY,
FEBRUARY THE 17TH.
THE FIRST CARNIVAL
WAS 125 YEARS AGO IN 1894.
HERE'S A PICTURE!”
A black and white photograph shows
a tall building on the edge of a
frozen canal.
The dark-haired man adds, “NOW,
IT WASN'T UNTIL 1955
THAT THE FESTIVAL
BECAME AN ANNUAL EVENT,
CELEBRATED EVERY YEAR.
THE MASCOT OF THE FESTIVAL
IS BONHOMME.
HE LOOKS LIKE
A GIANT SNOWMAN.
HE'S THE KING
OF THE FESTIVITIES
AND HIS JOB IS TO BRING JOY
OF THE WINTER TO EVERYONE.
EVERY YEAR,
THE MAYOR OF QUÉBEC CITY
GIVES BONHOMME
THE KEYS TO THE CITY,
WHICH CONFIRMS HIM AS THE
AMBASSADOR TO THE CARNIVAL.”
The dark-haired man adds, “SO COOL!
THERE'S LOTS TO SEE AND DO.
THERE'S A DAYTIME
AND NIGHTTIME PARADE,
CANOE RACING ON THE FROZEN
SAINT LAWRENCE RIVER,
THERE'S LIVE MUSIC,
AND LOTS OF GREAT FOOD TO TRY,
AND OF COURSE,
YOU HAVE TO GO SEE
BONHOMME'S ICE PALACE!
SO, IF YOU CAN,
GO CHECK IT OUT.
BUT IN THE MEANTIME,
I'M HOPING FOR MORE SNOW!
I WANNA MAKE MY OWN
BONHOMME DE NEIGE.

Lucas says,
“WOO! SO GOOD.”
Denise continues,
“OUR NEXT MOVE

THIS ONE'S
A LITTLE BIT TRICKY.
YOU'RE GONNA PUT YOUR ARMS

(Grunting)
Denise says, “RIDE THE WAVE!
FANTASTIC WORK.
WHEW.
PHEW!
THAT WAS AN AMAZING
EFFORT, TVOKIDS.
NOW, IT'S SUPER
IMPORTANT TO HYDRATE.
SO, MAKE SURE YOU GET
YOUR WATER IN.
AND WHEN YOU'RE FINISHED
WITH YOUR WATER,
DO A LITTLE STRETCH.
LAURA, LUCAS,
HAD AN AMAZING TIME.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.”
Lucas replies,
“THANK YOU, DENISE.”
Laura adds,
“THANK YOU SO MUCH,
TEACHER DENISE!
THAT WAS AWESOME.
MY HEART RATE IS UP.
LUCAS,
HOW ARE YOU FEELING?”
Lucas responds,
“UH, I'M DEFINITELY
FEELING A LITTLE SWEATY.
I'M FEELING
REALLY GOOD
AND I ALSO FEEL LIKE
I KIND OF GOT INSPIRED
BY ALL THE
SUMMER MOVES.
I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR THE
SUMMER THAT'S COMING OUR WAY.”
Laura says, “ME TOO!
WE SHOULD PROBABLY
STRETCH IT OUT
AND DRINK SOME WATER.
ALL RIGHT,”
Lucas adds, “LET'S DO THAT!”
Laura continues, “JOIN US NEXT TIME
FOR POWER UP!”
Lucas says, “BYE, TVOKIDS!”
Text reads, “A special thanks to OPHEA,
and the OPHEA ambassador team of
H&PE teachers getting us all moving!”
Andrea says, “OUR NEXT SUMMER ACTIVITY
IS AN ACTIVITY
THAT PERHAPS YOU,
YOUR FRIENDS, OR YOUR FAMILY
MIGHT ALREADY BE ENJOYING.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK.”
Andrea stands on a downtown
condo’s rooftop patio.
She says, “HI, EVERYONE, AND WELCOME
TO DOWNTOWN TORONTO.
NOW, THIS NEXT
SUMMER ACTIVITY
I'M GOING TO
INTRODUCE YOU TO
YOU, YOUR FRIENDS, OR YOUR
FAMILY MIGHT ALREADY BE DOING.
ALL YOU NEED
IS SOME SUNSHINE, WATER,
SOIL, AND SOME SEEDS
OR PERHAPS SOME PLANTS.
NOW, IF YOU GUESSED GARDENING
YOU'D BE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
TODAY I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE YOU
TO MY CONDO'S COMMUNITY GARDEN.
NOW, IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW
WHAT A COMMUNITY GARDEN IS,
IT'S A LARGE PIECE OF LAND
THAT'S SECTIONED OFF
INTO SMALLER PIECES
AND GIVEN TO PEOPLE
SO THAT THEY CAN GROW THEIR OWN
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.
LET'S TAKE A TOUR
OF WHAT PEOPLE AT MY CONDO
ARE CHOOSING TO GROW.”
Andrea walks past plants.
She continues,
“HERE WE HAVE SOME PARSLEY.
SOME BASIL OVER HERE.
SOMEONE'S GROWING SOME
VERY BEAUTIFUL CHERRY TOMATOES,
SO THOSE ARE THE SMALL,
LITTLE TOMATOES.
WE HAVE SOME MINT.
NOW, THIS ONE LOOKS
LIKE IT'S A FLOWER GARDEN.
SO, IT'S GONNA HAVE A COUPLE
OF DIFFERENT FLOWERS OVER HERE.
SOME ONIONS.
LETTUCE.
HERE WE HAVE SOME PEPPERS.
YELLOW PEPPERS
AND ORANGE PEPPERS.
AND SOME SWISS CHARD.”
Andrea adds, “NOW THAT YOU'VE
TAKEN A LOOK
AT SOME PLANTS THAT PEOPLE
ARE CHOOSING TO GROW
AT MY CONDO
COMMUNITY GARDEN,
LET'S TAKE A LOOK
AT A SNEAK PEEK
OF THE TVO MPOWER GAME,
PLANT LAB.”
A video game screen reads,
“Plant lab, Play!”
Text reads “Make predictions, perform
experiments, determine the probability of
an outcome, and make comparisons.”
A female voice in the video game says,
“DRAG TO ARRANGE POTS
FROM LEAST--
WHEN YOU'RE HAPPY
WITH YOUR PREDICTION,
TAP TO RUN
AT LEAST TEN TRIALS.
LET'S SEE WHICH PLANTS RECEIVE
THE MOST BURSTS OF LIGHT.”
(GAME NOISES)
Flower pots are dragged in front of a
window with a computer mouse.
Credits read, “TVO, m Power, create
your free account today!”
Andrea says, “IF YOU HAVEN'T
TRIED GARDENING ALREADY,
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
IT'S A GREAT WAY TO ENJOY NATURE
AND GROW YOUR OWN FOOD.
ON THE TOPIC OF GARDENING,
LET'S JOIN MARISSA,
AN 11-YEAR-OLD OJIBWE GIRL
FROM CURVE LAKE, ONTARIO,
AS SHE GOES OUT
TO HARVEST WILD RICE.”
A male narrator says,
“MEET MARISSA.
SHE BOMBS THE TRAILS
IN THE BACKYARD.
SHE'S GONNA SHOW YOU
HOW TO HARVEST WILD RICE!”
Marissa shouts, “WOOHOO!”
The narrator continues,
“THEN, WATCH HER TURN THE RICE
INTO A DELICIOUS DISH!”
Marissa says, “THAT SMELLS
REALLY GOOD!”
The narrator says, “LET'S GO!”
Marissa nods as she eats.
Photographs of kids are hung on a
clothesline in front of a cartoon
mountain.
A gray bird is perched on the clothesline
(Squawking)
Text reads, “Raven's Quest”
(Squawking)
Marissa sits on a dock on a sunny day.
She says, “AANIIN, HELLO.
MY NAME IS MARISSA,
I'M 11 YEARS OLD,
I'M OJIBWE,
AND I LIVE
IN CURVE LAKE, ONTARIO.”
Curve Lake is located on a map.
Marissa continues,
“I LIKE LIVING HERE
BECAUSE IT'S QUIET,
AND VERY OUTDOORSY.
PEOPLE ARE HAPPY
IN OUR COMMUNITY.
I'M PROUD OF LIVING
IN CURVE LAKE.
THIS IS MY FRIEND KRISTA.
AANIIN!
IT'S FALL HARVEST TIME
AND WE'RE ABOUT
TO GO RICING.”
Marissa adds,
"RICING" IS THE WORD WE USE
WHEN WE GO IN A CANOE AND START
HARVESTING THE WILD RICE.
WILD RICE GROWS IN THE LAKE
NEAR THE EDGE OF THE WATER.
WILD RICE IS BASICALLY
A SEED FROM A PLANT
THAT GROWS INTO THE WATER.
I'M USING THESE TWO STICKS.
YOU USE ONE STICK
TO PULL THE RICE STALK
INTO THE CANOE,
AND THEN YOU KNOCK IT
WITH THE OTHER.“
The Raven flexes its muscles.
Marissa says,
“THIS IS REALLY FUN,
BUT LIKE,
THIS IS
REALLY HARD WORK.
WOOHOO!
THIS IS A TRADITIONAL WAY
TO HARVEST THE RICE.
WHEN WE FINISH
HARVESTING THE WILD RICE,
WE SOAK IT
TO GET ALL THE BUGS OUT.”
A ladybug crawls past the boat.
Marissa continues,
“DO YOU WANNA KNOW
THE OJIBWE WORD FOR WILD RICE?
IT'S "MANOMIN".
MANOMIN.
THAT'S THE OJIBWE WORD
FOR WILD RICE.
THIS IS MY HOUSE.
COME ON!”
Marissa runs across her lawn and
into her house.
She says,
“THIS IS MY DOG, BLUE.
CAN YOU GUESS
WHY HIS NAME IS BLUE?
LOOK AT HIS EYES.
HE HAS ONE BLUE EYE
AND ONE BROWN EYE.
THIS IS MY BIRD.
ITS NAME IS BIRDIE.
I KNOW, VERY BASIC.
BUT WE DON'T KNOW
IF IT'S A BOY OR A GIRL.
HERE'S MY ROOM!”
Marissa steps onto her bed.
Medals and plaques hang from
the wall.
Marissa says, “SO, I LIKE TO PLAY HOCKEY.
OUR TEAM'S NAME
IS NIMKIINS KWE,
WHICH MEANS "THUNDER WOMAN".
MY POSITION IS RIGHT WING,
AND IN 2017,
WE UNFORTUNATELY GOT SILVER,
BUT WE KINDA TOUGHED UP
AND IN 2018,
WE GOT GOLD.”
(Crows cheering)
Marissa’s team celebrates on the ice.
She says, “SO, YOU CAN DO
ANYTHING YOU WANT.
YOU JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE
IN YOURSELF.
THIS IS REALLY SPECIAL STAFF
THAT I GOT MADE
FROM MY UNCLE DAVE.
HE HAD IT ALL DECORATED
WITH SOME DUCK FEATHERS,
AND IT HAS
THE MEDICINE WHEEL COLOURS,
THE FOUR COLOURS.
I REALLY LIKE IT BECAUSE
IT'S LIKE A SUPER UNIQUE STAFF.
IT HAS MY FAVOURITE COLOUR,
PURPLE,
AND IT HAS THIS
REALLY COOL DREAMCATCHER
THAT MY UNCLE MADE.
THIS IS MY HAIRPIECE.
I WEAR IT AT A POW WOW.
I PUT IT IN MY HAIR
WHEN MY HAIR IS BRAIDED,
AND I DANCE WITH IT.
I HAVE TWO OPTIONS.
I HAVE ONE WITH LIKE,
JUST A FEATHER
AND THEN THE OTHER
IS JUST PURPLE
AND IT HAS LIKE LITTLE FUZZIES
AND EVERYTHING.
I CAN EITHER WEAR
WHATEVER OPTION I WANT TO
OR I CAN WEAR BOTH OF THEM
AT THE SAME TIME.”
Marissa adds, “THIS IS MY
BEST FRIEND APRIL.”
April says, “HEY!”
Marissa continues, “AND WE LIKE
TO RIDE TRAILS.”
Marissa and April ride bikes on a dirt path.
(Giggling)
Marissa says, “ME AND APRIL
ARE REALLY GOOD FRIENDS
BECAUSE WE'VE GROWN UP
WITH EACH OTHER.
WE'VE KNOWN EACH OTHER
SINCE JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN,
WHICH IS
QUITE A LONG TIME.”
Marissa rides down a hill. Text reads
“Marissa Cam”
Marissa continues, “WE'RE REALLY NICE
TO EACH OTHER.
WE HAVE LIKE,
REALLY GREAT MOMENTS
AND LAUGH A LOT
WHEN WE SEE EACH OTHER.
SHE'S JUST A REALLY GREAT
AND GOOD PERSON.”
April and Marissa hug near a lake.
Marissa adds,
“I'M ON MY WAY TO MEET
THE CHIEF OF CURVE LAKE.
LET'S GO!”
A sign on a building reads, “Curve Lake
First Nation, Government Services Building”.
Marissa enters the building. She walks
into a room labeled “Council chambers”.
A woman seated at a large table
says, “COME ON IN, MARISSA!”
Marissa replies, “AANIIN, NAN.”
The woman asks, “HOW YOU DOIN'?”
Marissa answers, “GOOD.”
The woman adds, “THAT'S GREAT.”
Marissa says,
“MY GRANDMA IS THE CHIEF
OF CURVE LAKE.”
The Chief asks,
“SO, HAVE YOU BEEN
ON THE LAKE?
HAVE YOU
CHECKED THE RICE?”
Marissa answers, “YEP.”
The Chief replies
“YEAH? MANOMIN, RIGHT?”
Marissa says, “SHE'S A REALLY
GREAT LEADER.
SHE'S BRAVE,
SHE IS REALLY WISE.
AND SOMEDAY I HOPE
TO BE CHIEF LIKE HER.”
The Chief says, “OKAY, I HAVE
SOMETHING ELSE TO GET
TO, SO--”
Marissa responds, “OKAY.”
The Chief replies, “OKAY!
HAVE A GOOD
REST OF THE DAY
AND I'LL
SEE YOU LATER.”
Marissa says, “OKAY.”
The Chief adds, “ALL RIGHT.
LOVE YOU.”
Marissa replies, “LOVE YOU.”
The Chief says “THANK YOU.
BUH-BYE”.
Marissa replies, “BYE.”
Marissa leaves the council chambers.
She continues, “NOW THAT WE'VE HARVESTED
THE WILD RICE,
IT'S TIME TO ROAST IT.
COME ON, APRIL,
HELP ME.
WE PUT THE WILD RICE
INTO A POT
OVER THE COALS
TO ROAST IT,
AND ROASTING IT
MAKES IT EASIER
TO TAKE THE SHELLS OFF.
MY DAD HELPS US DRY
AND ROAST THE WILD RICE.”
Marissa shakes a pot on a fire pit.
Smoke rises.
(Coughing)
Marissa adds, “THEN WE PUT IT
ON A BIG SHEET…”
Marissa and April empty the rice
onto a bed sheet on the lawn.
Marissa says, “AND TOSS IT IN THE AIR.
THIS SEPARATES THE RICE GRAINS
FROM THE HUSKS.
THE BITS OF STEM
AND THE HARD SHELL
GET BLOWN AWAY
IN THE WIND.
WE CALL THIS WINNOWING.
AFTER WE THROW IT
INTO THE AIR,
WE CRUSH IT A BIT
WITH OUR FEET.
WHEN YOU'RE CRUSHING IT
WITH YOUR FEET,
YOU'RE HELPING THE SEEDS
POP OUT OF THEIR SHELL.
MOVE OVER.
AT THE END, YOU GOTTA PICK OUT
THE SEEDS ONE BY ONE.
AND THEN IT'S READY
TO EAT OR TO COOK WITH.
OOH, THAT'S A GOOD PILE.”
Marissa and April hop in the kitchen.
Marissa says, “WELCOME TO THE--
APRIL & MARISSA
COOKING SHOW!
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO BE MAKING
WILD RICE PUDDING-
JULIE'S RECIPE.
JULIE'S MY COUSIN.
WHAT YOU'RE GONNA NEED
IS FOUR CUPS
OF COOKED WILD RICE,
ONE HALF CUP OF CREAM,
EIGHT EGGS…”
Marissa cracks eggs over a pot.
She adds, “ONE CUP OF MAPLE
SYRUP. ONE TABLESPOON
OF NUTMEG.”
April says, “AND ADD RAISINS
IF YOU LIKE.”
Marissa says, “BUT WE'RE NOT
GONNA ADD RAISINS
'CAUSE NOBODY
LIKES THEM, SO.”
April comments,
“IT'S TURNING YELLOW.”
Marissa pours milk over a tray
of wild rice.
She reads,
“BAKE AT 350 UNTIL TOP IS BROWN
AND CRACKS A BIT."
A timer in front of the oven winds down.
The rice pudding is pulled out of the oven
And laid on a counter.
Marissa says, “MMM, THAT SMELLS
REALLY GOOD.”
April adds, “UH-HUH.”
Marissa and April say, “TASTE TEST!”
A portion of rice pudding is placed
on Marissa’s plate.
She says, “LET'S TRY IT.”
(Giggling)
April says, “THAT'S REALLY GOOD.
Marissa adds, “MM-HM.
OH, YES.
YOU CAN REALLY TASTE
THE NUTMEG.”
April says, “DELISH.”
Marissa replies, “THIS IS SO GOOD!”
(Giggling)
Marissa says, “GIGA-WAABAMIN,
GOODBYE. THANKS FOR VISITING
CURVE LAKE.”
The raven flies from one branch
to another
(Squawking)
A kid says “WHEE”
Text reads, “TVO Kids. Apartment
11 Productions.”
(Giggling)
Andrea says, “NOW, WE'VE LOOKED
AT SOME WINTER ACTIVITIES
AND SOME SUMMER ACTIVITIES.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK
AT THE SEASON OF SPRING.”
Lucas and Laura hurry across a bridge.
They run through a thick forest. Lucas
and Laura stretch out their arms as they
balance on a fallen tree trunk. They cross
a babbling brook. Lucas has dark hair and
an orange t-shirt. Laura has long brown
hair. She wears a pink t-shirt. They cross
under a wooden bridge and run past
numerous locations.
Lucas and Laura sing the theme song,
“PACK UP YOUR BAGS
KISS YOUR TURTLE GOODBYE
COME UP AND CLIMB
WHERE WE CAN TOUCH THE SKY
SO MUCH TO SEE
SO MUCH TO DO
IN OUR TREE FORT,
WE GOT A SHOW FOR YOU
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW,
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW,
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW”
(Geese Squawking)
Lucas whispers in Laura’s ear.
Text reads “Daffodil”
(Slide whistle)
Lucas climbs a rope ladder in a forest.
The theme song continues,
“LA, LA, LA, LA.
DO, DO, DO, DO.
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW.”
Text reads, “That TVO Kids show”
A dark-haired woman with pigtails
waves on a screen in the sky.
Laura says, “OKAY, MONICA,

Monica responds, “I'M SO READY!”
Laura replies, “OKAY, AMAZING
BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE
SPRINGTIME SCAVENGER HUNTS,
WHICH IS WHAT YOU'RE
GONNA BE ON NOW!

I GAVE YOU?”
Monica says, “I GOT YOUR
MAILBOX LETTER.
OKAY, LOOK.
I WENT TO MY MAILBOX
AND I FOUND A LIST
OF SCAVENGER HUNT ITEMS
FOR SPRING.
I'M SO EXCITED, I'M GONNA TRY
AND GET EVERYTHING ON THIS LIST.”
Laura responds, “OKAY, YES.
HERE'S THE CATCH,
THOUGH, MONICA.
YOU ONLY HAVE 15 MINUTES
TO FIND ALL OF THEM!”
Monica says, “15 MINUTES?
HOW AM I GONNA DO THAT?
WAIT-- OKAY,
I HAVE MY BINOCULARS.
I NEED--
I NEED A JAR OF PEANUTS.
I NEED, UH--
I NEED MY PICTURE--
I NEED TO TAKE PICTURES!
OKAY, I DON'T KNOW
HOW I'M GONNA DO THIS
BUT I GOTTA GO.
BYE, LAURA.”
Laura replies, “OKAY, HURRY!
YES, THE CLOCK
IS TICKING!
GO FIND SIGNS OF SPRING.
THAT'S RIGHT, TVOKIDS.
I HAVE SENT MONICA ON
A SPRINGTIME SCAVENGER HUNT
SO SHE IS OUT SEARCHING
FOR LITTLE SIGNS OF SPRING
THAT ARE STARTING
TO SHOW UP,
AND CHECK IT OUT.
WE'VE GOT SOME SIGNS OF SPRING
IN THE TREE FORT!
CAN YOU FIND THEM?”
(Foghorn honking)
Laura rushes to a tuba.
She says, “OH!
GONNA GET THAT CALL FIRST.”
(Horn honking again)
Laura says,
“HELLO, WHO'S CALLING?”
(Feedback on telephone line)
A girl on a phone says,
“SAMANVITHA.”
Laura replies, “SAMANVITHA!
WHAT'S THE PASSWORD
FOR THE FORT TODAY?”
Samanvitha answers, “DAFFODIL?”
Laura replies, “DAFFODIL, YES!
WHICH IS TOTALLY
A SIGN OF SPRING.
SAMANVITHA, YOU ARE GOING
IN THE SKY!”
Samanvitha appears on a screen
in the sky.
Laura asks, “HEY, SAMANVITHA!
HOW ARE YOU?”
Samanvitha answers, “GOOD.”
Laura adds,
“GOOD! WELCOME TO THE FORT
FOR SIGNS OF SPRING DAY.
I AM SO EXCITED.
HOW ARE YOU FEELING
ABOUT SPRING?”
Samanvitha replies, “EXCITED.”
Laura says, “EXCITED, YES!
OKAY, WHAT--
WHAT ARE SOME
OF YOUR FAVOURITE PARTS
ABOUT SPRING?”
Samanvitha responds,
“THE FLOWERS.”
Laura replies, “THE FLOWERS!
OKAY, SAMANVITHA,
I HAVE TO SAY,
THAT IS ALSO, I THINK,
MY FAVOURITE PART-
THE BEAUTIFUL COLOURS,
THE BEAUTIFUL SMELLS.
UM, OKAY.
SAMANVITHA,
CHECK IT OUT.
CAN YOU SPOT
ANY SIGNS OF SPRING
IN THE TREE FORT TODAY?”
IS THERE ANYTHING

(Chittering)
Laura responds, “OH. YEAH!
RACCOONS,

IN THEIR DENS
THROUGHOUT WINTER
AND THEN THEY START
TO COME OUT
WHEN THE WEATHER'S
GETTING WARM.
AND-- WHAT'S THAT?
OH!
SAMANVITHA,
HE'S SAYING
THAT PO IS ACTUALLY
A SIGN OF SPRING!
RACCOONS ARE
A SIGN OF SPRING.

(Squeaking)
Laura asks, “WHAT'S THAT?
NO, WE DON'T WANT
ANY GARBAGE.
NO.
OKAY, GOODBYE, PO.
SEE YA LATER!

Samanvitha responds, “I THINK
IT'S REALLY CUTE.”
Laura replies, “IT'S CUTE?
WHAT WOULD YOU RATE IT
OUT OF TEN?”
Samanvitha says, “UM,
7.5 OUT OF 10.”
Laura replies, “7.5, PRETTY GOOD.
LET'S SEE
HOW IT DOES
UP AGAINST
THE CHALLENGER.”
Text reads, “Challenger”
(Gasping)
Laura continues, “I LOVE THESE!
THESE ARE BABY FOXES
AND THEY SEEM TO BE PLAYING
IN A MEADOW FOR SPRING.
I LOVE THIS ONE.
SAMANVITHA,
WHAT WOULD YOU RATE THIS ON?”
Samanvitha replies,
“I WOULD RATE THIS
A 10 OUT OF 10.”
Laura says, “10 OUT OF 10!
YES!
THE BABY FOXES ARE
THE WINNERS FOR SPRING.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR HANGING OUT
IN THE FORT TODAY,
SAMANVITHA.
I HOPE YOU CALL
BACK AGAIN SOON!
BYE.”
Samanvitha replies, “BYE!”
Laura continues, “OH, THOSE BABY FOXES
WERE SO CUTE!
BUT I WONDER HOW MONICA IS DOING
ON HER SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT.
MONICA!”
A video of Monica appears in the sky.
She says, “LAURA, I FOUND
SOMETHING INCREDIBLE.
WHAT DID YOU FIND?!
DO YOU WANNA SEE
WHAT IT IS?”
Laura replies,
“YES, SHOW ME PLEASE!”
Monica responds,
“OKAY, CHECK IT OUT.
I HAVE, I THINK,
LILIES OF THE VALLEY--”
Laura says, “WHOA!”
Monica continues,
“--BUT THEY'RE THIS NICE,
BEAUTIFUL WHITE FLOWERS.
LOOK AT THEM.
THEY'RE SPROUTING!
THEY'RE ONE
OF THE FIRST FLOWERS
THAT I'VE SEEN SPROUTED SO FAR
ON MY SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT.”
Laura replies, “OKAY, I HAVE TO SAY,
I ALSO SAW SOME SOME FLOWERS
SPROUTING THIS MORNING
AND IT GOT ME SO EXCITED,
JUST THE LITTLE GREEN SPROUTS
POPPING UP.
THAT IS SO AWESOME.
WAY TO GO, MONICA!
HAVE YOU FOUND
ANYTHING ELSE?”
Monica answers,
“WELL, THERE'S
LOTS OF SQUIRRELS
AND I'M TRYING
TO GET THEM TO--
EAT SOME
OF THESE PEANUTS.
BUT WE'LL SEE.
MAYBE WHEN WE COME BACK
I'LL HAVE ONE.”
Laura replies,
“OKAY, WELL I'M GONNA
HOLD YOU TO IT.
LIKE I SAID,
YOU ONLY HAVE 15 MINUTES
TO FIND EVERYTHING
ON THE LIST.
UM, BUT
TO HELP YOU OUT,
I THOUGHT WE COULD LEARN
A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT SPRING.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?”
Monica responds, “SOUNDS GREAT.”
Laura says, “OKAY.
LET'S CHECK THIS OUT.”
A girl smells a flower.
A male narrator says,
“MMM, SMELL THAT FRESH AIR.
FEEL THAT SUNSHINE
ON YOUR FACE
AND THAT BREEZE
ON YOUR HANDS!
STOP AND LISTEN
TO THOSE BIRDS SINGING.
SPRINGTIME IS HERE,
TVOKIDS!
SEE YA LATER, WINTER.
IT'S TIME TO GET OUTSIDE
AND HAVE SOME FUN.
IT'S TIME TO PUT ON
YOUR RAIN BOOTS
AND SPLASH
IN SOME PUDDLES.
IT'S TIME FOR A GOOD,
OLD-FASHIONED
SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT.”
Text on a chalkboard outside reads,
“Scavenger hunt starts here”.
The narrator adds,
“NOT SURE WHAT TO LOOK FOR
ON YOUR SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT?
IF YOU SPOT A BIRD'S NEST
OR A ROBIN FLYING,
THAT'S A SIGN OF SPRING.
GREEN LEAVES AND GREEN GRASS
ARE GOOD SIGNS TOO.
AND SO ARE PINECONES!
DO YOU SEE ANY PLANTS
POKING THROUGH THE SOIL?
OR HOW ABOUT
SOME SPRING FLOWERS?
DAFFODILS, TULIPS,
HYACINTHS AND CROCUSES ARE ALL
SIGNS THAT SPRING IS HERE!
TREE BUDS,
INSECTS,
WORMS,
SPRING, SPRING, SPRING!
SQUIRRELS AND CHIPMUNKS ARE
RUNNING AROUND FOR A REASON.
SPRING IS FINALLY HERE.
WOOHOO!”
Laura says, “HEY, TVOKIDS.
WELCOME BACK.
I'M SO EXCITED
TO WELCOME OUR NEXT GUEST.
GIVE IT UP FOR J'NET!
J'NET IS THE INDIGENOUS OUTREACH
AND LEARNING COORDINATOR
AT THE ROM!
HEY, J'NET!”
J’net replies, “HELLO,
THANKS FOR INVITING ME.”
Laura replies, “THANKS FOR BEING
HERE TODAY.
OKAY,
LET'S START OFF.
TELL ME AND THE TVOKIDS
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE
INDIGENOUS VOICES SERIES
THAT HAPPENS
AT THE ROM.”
J’net says, “EXCELLENT.
THE INDIGENOUS
VOICES SERIES
IS A FREE ONLINE
EDUCATION WEBINAR
FOR GRADE--
KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 12.
IF YOU VISIT
OUR WEBSITE
AND LOOK AT ROM AT HOME,
YOU CAN REGISTER FOR FREE.
A WHOLE BUNCH
OF DIFFERENT TOPICS,
SOME BRAVE TOPICS.
ALL OF THEM INCLUDE A LITTLE
BIT OF ART IN SOME WAY.
SO, THERE'S A RESIDENTIAL
SCHOOL TOPIC COMING UP
AND THERE'S ALSO SOME GRASS
DANCE AND POW WOW DANCE,
AND EVEN AN INUIT
DRUM DANCING WORKSHOP.
THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT
TWO SPIRIT IDENTITY
AND ALSO SOMETHING ABOUT
GENOCIDE AWARENESS MONTH.
SO, WE COVER
A BIT OF EVERYTHING
FOR ALL GRADES.”
Laura states, “THAT IS INCREDIBLE.
SOUNDS LIKE THERE'S SO MUCH
TO LEARN THERE, J'NET.
SO AWESOME.
UM, NOW WHAT CAN WE
LEARN ABOUT SPRING?”
J’net replies, “WELL, I'M EXCITED
TO BE INVITED TODAY.
I THOUGHT I WOULD
SHARE A STORY
THAT COMES FROM
MY NUU-CHAH-NULTH HOMELANDS
WHICH IS MORE THAN
4,500 KILOMETRES AWAY.
SOME OF OUR VIEWERS MIGHT
KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE
TO LIVE FAR AWAY
FROM HOME.
WELL, SO DO I.
AND IN MY HOMELANDS,
INSTEAD OF SAYING
THE WORD "CHIEF"--
I'M A NUU-CHAH-NULTH
PERSON--
WE SAY THE WORD
"HA'WIIH",
WHICH IS
"CARETAKER OF AN AREA",
OF SOME LAND.
AND THERE WAS
A LONG TIME AGO
WHEN A HA'WIIH
HAD A YOUNG BOY
WHO WAS 12, TURNING 13,
COMING OF AGE,
AND THAT BOY WAS GONNA
HAVE A CEREMONY
TO HAVE A-- UM,
A VERY PRIVATE CEREMONY
COMING OF AGE
WHERE HE WOULD SIT
AROUND A SACRED FIRE,
AND IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE
FOR ONLY FOUR NIGHTS.
AND THIS HA'WIIH,
THIS LEADER,
WAS SO EXCITED TO SHOW OFF
HIS BOY COMING OF AGE,
HE INVITED GUESTS FROM HERE,
THERE, AND EVERYWHERE.
AND PEOPLE FEASTED
AND WAITED
WHILE THIS BOY SAT WITH THE FIRE
ON HIS VISION QUEST.
AND AFTER THE END
OF HIS FOUR DAYS
HE DIDN'T
HAVE A SONG.
WHICH IS OKAY, 'CAUSE SOMETIMES
YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET A SONG.
BUT HIS FATHER WAS FEELING
REALLY PRIDEFUL
AND WANTED HIS BOY
TO GET A SONG,
SO HE MADE HIM
STAY OUT THERE LONGER.
AND SOME PEOPLE,
INCLUDING HIS MOTHER,
WERE VERY UPSET.
"NO, NO, NO, YOU'RE ONLY
SUPPOSED TO STAY
"FOR FOUR DAYS,
NOT ANY LONGER."
AFTER FIVE DAYS,
GUESTS STARTED TO LEAVE.
SIX DAYS, OH,
THE WORD GOT OUT
THAT THIS WAS
VERY WRONG.
SEVEN, EIGHT DAYS.
THE FATHER WENT OUT
ALL BY HIMSELF
'CAUSE ALL THE GUESTS
HAD LEFT.
AND WHEN THE FATHER
WENT OUT THERE,
HE COULDN'T
FIND THE BOY,
BUT HE DID FIND
THIS RED-CHESTED BIRD
THAT WE ALL NOW KNOW
AS A ROBIN.
AND THIS BIRD WHIPPED
IN AND AROUND THE LEADER
AND LANDED ON A BRANCH
AND SAID,
"FATHER, IT'S ME.
"THE CREATOR
TOOK PITY ON ME
"AND TURNED ME
INTO THIS ROBIN
"TO REMIND YOU THAT THESE
CEREMONIES FOR SPRING
"ONLY HAPPEN ONCE
THE ROBIN HAS ARRIVED."
J’net adds,
“AND SO, THAT'S A REALLY GOOD
LESSON IN STAYING HUMBLE,
SO THAT THIS--
THIS FATHER
WHO WANTED TO BE
REALLY PROUD OF HIS SON
COULD BE PROUD OF HIS SON
EVEN WITHOUT A SONG.
YOU KNOW?”
Laura replies, “ABSOLUTELY.
YEAH!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STORY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING
THAT WITH US, J'NET.”
J’net says, “THANKS!”
Laura continues, “AMAZING.
I'VE GOT A CRAFT HERE
THAT I THINK YOU'RE GONNA
ACTUALLY SHOW ME HOW TO DO,
SO LET'S
TAKE A LOOK AT IT.
UM, I THINK YOU'VE GOT
ONE FINISHED, RIGHT?”
J’net replies, “EXACTLY RIGHT.
I HAVE ONE FINISHED,
AND THIS IS WHAT WE'RE--
WE'RE GONNA DO-- A CIRCLE
IN THE MIDDLE OF A PAGE
IS GONNA BE A REALLY
GREAT PLACE TO START.
AND I JUST WANTED TO SHOW
SUPER, SUPER QUICK
THAT WHEN I WAS GETTING READY
FOR YOUR EPISODE,
I HAD SO MUCH FUN,
I WENT OUT OF MY WAY
TO PUT AN EXTRA BIT
OF SPARKLE AND BLING ON.”
J’net holds a painting of a tree. The
tree is separated into four sections.
Each of the four sections of the tree
are drawn in a different season.
Laura says, “WHAT?!
LOOK AT
ALL THAT GLITTER!
IT LOOKS AMAZING,
J'NET!”
J’net adds, “FOR SURE,
THERE'S NO ARM TWIST
THAT THE STUDENTS
OR ANYONE TUNING IN
HAS TO HAVE THE SPARKLE.”
(Chuckling)
J’net continues, “BUT I LEARNED
A HARD LESSON.
I WOULD PUT IT
ON CARD STOCK NEXT TIME
BECAUSE IT DRIED
FUNNY.
BUT IF YOU START
WITH A CIRCLE--
I HAPPEN TO HAVE
A COMPASS.
I'M NOT SURE
WHAT YOU HAVE THERE,
BUT WE COULD LOOK
AT YOUR SCREEN.”
Laura replies, “I'VE GOT MY CIRCLE
ALREADY DRAWN OUT,
AND I'VE SPLIT IT
INTO FOUR PIECES.”
J’net says, “EXCELLENT.
SO--”
I'LL SHOW THE STUDENTS
HOW I DID THAT.
I FOLDED MY PAPER
IN HALF,
AND THEN I FOLDED
IN HALF TO THE EDGE.
AND THEN YOU'LL SEE
THAT WE HAVE FOUR CIR--
AND THEN WE PUT FOUR LINES
IN THE MIDDLE, YEAH?”
Laura adds, “YES, PERFECT.
SO, ONCE I GOT
THESE LINES--
SO I DRAW A TREE,
RIGHT?
AND I MAKE THE BRANCHES
HIT ALL THE QUADRANTS?”
J’net says, “EXACTLY.
SO, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE
SUPER-DUPER FANCY.
YOU COULD ADD
MORE BRANCHES LATER
OR SMALLER BRANCHES
OFF OF IT,
BUT JUST AS LONG AS THEY
ALL MEET AT THE EDGE.”
Laura replies, “AMAZING.
OKAY.”
J’net continues, “AND THEN
IN EACH SECTION--
LIKE,
THE FIRST SECTION,
WE'RE ALL ABOUT BLOSSOMS
RIGHT NOW, AREN'T WE?
SO WE WOULD DRAW--
I PUT SMALL LEAVES,
'CAUSE ALL THE LEAVES AT
THIS TIME OF YEAR ARE SMALL,
WITH A WHOLE BUNCH
OF BLOSSOMS.”
Laura adds, “SO, I'M ADDING SOME OF
MY PINK BLOSSOMS AS WELL.
SO, TVOKIDS,
EACH QUADRANT IS GOING
TO BE A DIFFERENT SEASON.
SO, THIS IS
AN AWESOME CRAFT
THAT IS A PERFECT THING
TO DO AT SPRING,
BECAUSE SPRING IS
THE FIRST QUADRANT, RIGHT?”
J’net adds, “EXACTLY.”
Laura continues, “AWESOME.
OOH! OKAY.
SO, NOW I'M ADDING
SOME OF MY GREEN LEAVES
TO MY SUMMER QUADRANT.”
J’net says, “EXACTLY.
AND THEN IN THE FALL
OR AUTUMN,
YOU WANNA ADD FRUIT--”
(Gasping)
J’net adds,
“--AND YOU WANNA ADD COLOURFUL
FALL-COLOURED LEAVES,
LIKE ORANGE--”
Laura says, “I DIDN'T EVEN
THINK OF FRUIT!
THAT'S SUCH A GOOD IDEA.”
J’net says, “--AND YELLOW.
IT COULD BE-- IT COULD BE
FRUIT LIKE AN APPLE
OR FRUIT LIKE A PEAR.
AND I WANTED TO SHOW
THAT FOR WINTER,
YOU DON'T HAVE
TO DO ANYTHING
BUT ONE OF THE THINGS
I DID WAS I LEFT
A LITTLE BIT OF BLUE
OFF THE TIP OF THE BRANCH
TO MAKE IT FAKE LIKE SNOW.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN
SEE THAT UP CLOSE AT ALL,
BUT SEE HOW I COLOURED
THE BACKGROUND BLUE?
AND JUST OVER THE BRANCH
I LEFT THAT LITTLE PATCH WHITE
JUST ABOVE IT,
TO PRETEND THAT THAT
WAS ACTUALLY SNOW
ON THE TOP
OF THE BRANCH.
TRYING TO BE--”
(Unclear)
J’net continues,
“FOR FALL, YOU CAN SEE
I EVEN HAD LEAVES
FALLING ON THE GROUND
BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS
AT THE FALL.”
Laura says, “ABSOLUTELY.
OKAY, THIS IS
SO MUCH FUN, J'NET.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR JOINING US.
I GONNA KEEP WORKING
ON MY TREE.
AND TVOKIDS, REMEMBER,
YOU CAN CHECK OUT
THE INDIGENOUS VOICES
SERIES AT THE ROM.
THANKS, J'NET!”
J’net replies, “THANK YOU, BUH-BYE!”
Laura responds, “BYE!”
(Applause)
Monica appears on the screen. She
uses binoculars as she looks up.
Laura says, “OKAY. OH, MONICA!
HOW'S IT GOING?
DID YOU FIND
ANYTHING ELSE?”
Monica answers, “IT'S AMAZING.
I FOUND ALMOST EVERYTHING
ON THIS LIST.
I SEE BIRD NESTS,
BIRDS SINGING,
I CAN SEE--
THERE WERE PUDDLES
AND THERE'S SOME ANIMAL
PRINTS IN THE GROUND.
THERE'S ACTUALLY
SOME LITTLE FLOWERS
PUSHING OUT OF THE GROUND
RIGHT HERE!
THEY MIGHT BE DAFFODILS.
I CAN'T BE SURE.”
Laura replies, “WHAT?!
HEY, "DAFFODIL" IS
THE PASSWORD FOR TODAY,
SO THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.
MONICA,
I HAVE TO SAY,
I'M REALLY IMPRESSED
AT HOW MANY THINGS
YOU FOUND SO FAR!”
Monica states,
“THIS HAS BEEN SO MUCH FUN.
OH! I FOUND A PINECONE.
THAT'S THE SECOND-LAST
THING ON MY LIST.
THERE'S ONE LAST THING.
OH!
I SEE IT OVER THERE.
I THINK IT'S A CHIPMUNK.
ALL RIGHT,
WISH ME LUCK, TVOKIDS.”
Laura says, “OKAY, GOOD LUCK!
BYE-BYE, MONICA.
WOW! SHE CAN RUN--”
(Laughing)
Laura continues, “--REALLY FAST!
THAT WAS VERY, VERY FAST.
TVOKIDS, CHECK IT OUT.
MONICA IS OUT THERE TODAY.
SHE'S FINDING
SIGNS OF SPRING.
WE'VE GOT SIGNS OF SPRING
IN THE FORT,
AND YOU CAN HEAD OUTSIDE
AND LOOK FOR SOME SIGNS
OF SPRING OF YOUR OWN
AND THEN REMEMBER
TO SEND THEM IN TO US
AT TVOKIDS.COM.
I'M GONNA KEEP WORKING
ON THIS CRAFT.
SEE YOU LATER!”
Text reads, “That TVO Kids Show”
Andrea says, “THANK YOU, EVERYONE,
FOR JOINING ME TODAY
ON TVO'S POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.
I'M TEACHER ANDREA AND I LOOK
FORWARD TO SEEING YOU NEXT TIME.
BYE FOR NOW!”
Text reads, “TVO would like to thank all the
teachers involved in the Power Hour of Learning
at they continue to teach the children of Ontario
from their homes.”
Credits read, “TVO Kids Power Hour of
Learning. TVO.”
TVO KIDS POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.”
Text reads, “Today’s junior lesson,
What’s Your Season”
Andrea begins,
“HI, EVERYONE.
I'M TEACHER ANDREA
AND WELCOME
TO TVO'S POWER HOUR
OF LEARNING.
I'M SO EXCITED
YOU COULD JOIN ME TODAY
BECAUSE TODAY WE'RE GOING TO BE
EXPLORING THE SEASONS.
IN CANADA AND OTHER COUNTRIES,
WE HAVE FOUR SEASONS.
THIS MEANS CHANGES
IN WEATHER,
TEMPERATURE,
AND DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.
LET'S GET STARTED
BY NAMING THE FOUR SEASONS.
SO, TAKE A MOMENT
AND THINK ABOUT IT.
WHAT ARE THE FOUR SEASONS
THAT WE HAVE HERE IN CANADA?
LET'S WRITE THIS
ON THE BOARD TOGETHER.”
Andrea takes out a marker and approaches
a large piece of paper labeled “The
Four Seasons”.
She continues,
”OUR FIRST SEASON...
AND THIS ISN'T
IN ANY ORDER,
SO JUST CALL IT OUT
TO ME.
I THINK I HEARD SOMEONE
SAY SUMMER.
SO, SUMMER IS A SEASON
WE HAVE HERE IN CANADA.”
Andrea writes “Summer” on the page in
red marker.
She continues,
“WHAT'S ANOTHER SEASON
WE HAVE?
SOMEONE SAID FALL,
AND THAT WOULD BE CORRECT.”
Andrea writes fall on the page.
She adds,
“OUR THIRD SEASON?
MAYBE THIS IS
YOUR FAVOURITE SEASON.
WINTER!
ALL RIGHT, WINTER.”
Andrea writes winter on the page.
She continues,
“AND OUR LAST SEASON?
THAT'S RIGHT- SPRING.”
Andrea writes spring.
She goes on to say,
“NOW, EACH OF THESE SEASONS
BRINGS DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES,
DIFFERENT TYPES
OF WEATHERS,
AND THAT MEANS
DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES.
SO, IN THE SUMMER
WE MIGHT GET TO WEAR
OUR SHORT SLEEVES AND SHORTS,
IN THE FALL IS WHEN WE START
TO SEE THE LEAVES CHANGE COLOUR,
IN THE WINTER IS WHEN WE PUT ON
OUR HEAVY JACKETS,
OUR MITTS AND OUR HATS,
AND WE GET TO DO SOME
PRETTY GOOD ACTIVITIES
LIKE TOBOGGANING
AND SKATING.
AND IN THE SPRING IS WHEN
WE START TO HEAR THE BIRDS
START TO CHIRP
AND THE WEATHER STARTS
TO GET A LITTLE NICER.
NOW, LET'S JOIN
THE CANADA CREW, MO AND BEBE,
AS THEY EXPLORE
THE VARIOUS SEASONS.”
Rain falls outside Bebe the beaver’s
dam. Bebe looks out the window.
(sighing)
Mo the moose reads a book.
Bebe looks at him. Then turns back
to the window.
(Sighing louder)
Mo asks,
“WHAT'S THE MATTER,
BEBE?”
Bebe replies,
“WELL, WE'VE BEEN COOPED UP
IN HERE ALL WINTER
AND NOW THAT IT'S FINALLY
SPRINGTIME,
IT'S RAIN, RAIN,
AND MORE RAIN!”
Mo says, “I WISH IT WOULD
STOP TOO, BEBE,
BUT THERE'S NOTHING
WE CAN DO ABOUT IT.”
(gasping)
Bebe asks, “OR IS THERE?”
Mo asks, “HM?”
(Clearing throat)
Bebe sings,
“RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY
COME AGAIN ANOTHER--
(Gasping)
The sun shines as the rain stops
Bebe says, “--DAY?”
Mo adds, “WHOA!”
Bebe replies, “HEY, IT WORKED!
I DID IT,
I MADE THE RAIN STOP!”
(Laughing)
Mo says, “WOULD YOU
LOOK AT THAT?
NICE WORK, BEBE!”
Bebe responds,
“WHY, THANK YOU,
MY GOOD MOOSE.”
(Giggling)
(Thunder crashing)
Mo and Bebe say, “WHOA!"
It rains again.
Mo adds, “AH.
CHECKERS, MAYBE?”
Bebe tilts her head.
A female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI
NEW BRUNSWICK,
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
QUEBEC, ONTARIO, MANITOBA
AND THERE ARE MORE
BC, ALBERTA,
SASKATCHEWAN
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES,
NUNAVUT, YUKON
BEBE, MO, AND GAVIN
WE'RE THE CANADA CREW
LET'S GO EXPLORE CANADA TOO
CANADA CREW!”
Text reads, “The Canada Crew.
Created by Ben Mazzotta”
The Canadian flag flaps in the
wind as rain falls on Bebe’s dam.
Text reads, “Seasons”
Bebe rests her chin on her fist as
she sits at a table. Mo approaches her.
(Sighing)
Mo says, “HEY, BEBE.”
Bebe replies, “HEY, MO.”
Mo asks, “STILL DOWN
ABOUT THE RAIN?”
Bebe responds,
“HOW CAN YOU TELL?”
Mo says, “WELL, I'VE GOT
JUST THE THING
THAT'LL LIFT
YOUR SPIRITS.”
Bebe says, “OH, YEAH?”
Mo nods.
He says. “MM-HM.”
(Chuckling)
(Grunting)
Mo rests a scrapbook on the table.
Mo says, “TA-DA!”
Bebe replies, “AH!”
Mo adds, “IT'S A SCRAPBOOK I MADE
JUST FOR YOU.
IT'S CALLED
THE FOUR SEASONS
OF BEBE AND MO!”
Bebe responds, “AW!”
Mo continues,
“CHECK IT OUT!”
(Giggling)
Mo says, “HERE WE GO. YEAH.
AS YOU KNOW,
CANADA HAS FOUR SEASONS.”
Text on the pages of the scrapbook
read, “Spring, Summer, Fall,
and Winter
Mo continues,
“FIRST WE HAVE SPRINGTIME.
THE SNOW MELTS,
THE DAYS ARE STARTING
TO GET LONGER.
THE FLOWERS AND PLANTS
ARE BLOOMING--”
Bebe interrupts, “AND IT'S RAINING.
ALL THE TIME.
HMPH.”
Mo says, “WELL,
NOT ALL THE TIME.
NEXT COMES SUMMER,
THE WARMEST SEASON OF ALL!”
Flashback. Bebe buries Mo under sand
on a beach.
Bebe adds, “AW, SUMMER.
THE SUN IS SHINING BRIGHT,
THE DAYS ARE LONGER,
THE FLOWERS AND PLANTS
ARE FULL-GROWN.
IT'S GLORIOUS!”
(Mo chuckling)
Bebe continues, “HEY,
I REMEMBER THAT DAY!
I TOTALLY
BURIED YOU GOOD.
HEH HEH!”
Mo responds, “YEAH.
IT TOOK ME WEEKS TO GET
ALL THE SAND OUTTA MY FUR.”
(Giggling)
Mo adds, “THEN COMES FALL.
THE WEATHER IS STARTING
TO CHANGE.
IT GETS COLDER
AND THE DAYS GET SHORTER.”
Bebe interrupts,
“AND THE BEST PART IS ALL
THE LEAVES ON THE TREES
CHANGE COLOURS
AND FALL TO THE GROUND.”
Mo says, “OH, YEAH!”
(Chuckling)
Mo adds, “MY FAVOURITE.
AND THEN FINALLY
COMES WINTER!
THE WEATHER
IS MUCH COLDER.
YOU HAVE TO DRESS WARM.
THE DAYS
ARE MUCH SHORTER,
THE TREES HAVE LOST
ALL THEIR LEAVES.”
Bebe says, “OH, OH, AND THERE'S
LOTS AND LOTS OF SNOW
TO BUILD STUFF
LIKE SNOW MOOSES!”
(Chuckling)
Bebe adds, “AW.”
Mo responds, “AH, FUN TIMES.”
(Sighing)
Bebe adds,
“YEAH. HEHE.”
(Goose honking)
Mo says,
“YOU KNOW WHAT THAT
SOUND MEANS!”
Bebe replies, “UH-HUH!”
Mo continues,
“IT'S GAVIN THE GOOSE!”
(Giggling)
Bebe responds,
“I WONDER WHERE
HE'S CALLING FROM TODAY.”
Mo replies, “HMM.”
Mo picks up an orange tablet.
He accepts a video chat from
Gavin, the Canada Goose.
(Beeping)
Gavin says, “HELLO? HELLO?”
Mo replies, “GAVIN?”
Gavin asks, “IS THAT YOU, MO?”
Mo answers, “YEAH,
AND BEBE'S HERE TOO.”
Gavin says, “OH, HEY BEBE!
KINDA HARD TO SEE YOU
WITH ALL THIS FOG EVERYWHERE.
COOL THOUGH, ISN'T IT?”
Mo adds, “I'LL SAY!
I'VE NEVER SEEN
SO MUCH FOG
IN ALL MY LIFE!”
Gavin says,
“ME NEITHER!
I CAN BARELY SEE
MY OWN WINGS!
WHERE'D YOU GO?
WHE--
OH, THERE YOU ARE.”
(Chuckling)
Bebe asks,
“WHERE ARE YOU,
GAVIN?”
Gavin answers,
“THE LAST I CHECKED,
I WAS IN THE GRAND BANKS,
IN THE PROVINCE OF
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR.
Newfoundland and Labrador are
highlighted on a red map of Canada.
Gavin continues,
“THE FOGGIEST PLACE
ON EARTH!”
Text reads, “Fun Fact”
Gavin adds, “FOG IS A CLOUD!
BUT INSTEAD OF BEING
HIGH IN THE SKY,
IT'S CLOSE TO THE GROUND.
WELL, I'M OFF TO
MY NEXT DESTINATION.
TALK SOON!”
(Chuckling)
Gavin swims into the side
of a tugboat.
(Clanging)
(Foghorn sound)
Gavin says, “ON SECOND THOUGHT,
MAYBE I'LL WAIT
UNTIL THE FOG CLEARS.”
(Groaning)
Gavin slides down the side of the boat.
Mo says, “SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA,
GAVIN.”
Bebe adds, “YEAH.”
Mo adds, “SEE YA.”
Bebe states, “OH, OH, HEY!
I HAVE AN IDEA!
WHY DON'T WE CALL DAVE
AT THE WEATHER OFFICE?
I'M SURE HE CAN TELL US
WHEN IT'S GONNA STOP RAINING.”
Mo says, “YEAH,
GREAT IDEA, BEBE!”
(Dialing)
Dave says, “HI THERE, YOU TWO!”
Mo replies, “HI, DAVE!”
Dave asks,
“HOW CAN I HELP YOU TODAY?”
Mo answers,
“UH, WE'RE CALLING TO SEE
WHAT THE WEATHER FORECAST IS.”
Dave adds, “WELL, CANADA'S
A REALLY BIG COUNTRY,
SO THE WEATHER CAN BE DIFFERENT
DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE.”
Bebe asks, “SO, WHAT'S THE WEATHER
GONNA BE LIKE WHERE WE LIVE?”
Dave responds,
“WELL, LET'S LOOK AT MY WEATHER
TRACKING COMPUTER TO FIND OUT.”
Dave points at a location in northern
Ontario on a map on his computer.
Dave continues, “HMM. SEE THIS HERE?
IT'S REALLY, REALLY BIG CLOUD
FULL OF RAIN,
WHICH MEANS IT LOOKS LIKE RAIN
FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.”
Bebe says, “AH, NUTS!
I WISH
IT NEVER RAINED!”
(Chuckling)
Dave replies,
“DON'T SAY THAT, BEBE.
AS MUCH AS
YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT,
RAIN IS VERY IMPORTANT.
AND ALL OF THE PLANTS
AND THE FLOWERS,
THEY NEED TO GROW AGAIN
IN THE SPRING.
AND WHAT DO THEY NEED
TO GROW BIG AND STRONG?”
Bebe answers, “SUNSHINE!
LOTS AND LOTS
OF SUNSHINE!”
Dave replies,
“YOU'RE RIGHT, SUNSHINE,
BUT THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE
THAT THEY NEED.”
Bebe says, “WATER.”
Dave says, “EXACTLY,
AND THAT IS WHY RAIN IS SO
IMPORTANT IN THE SPRINGTIME!”
Bebe responds, “I GUESS.”
Mo says, “THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,
DAVE.”
Dave replies, “MY PLEASURE, YOU TWO.”
Mo puts away the tablet
He says, “WAIT A SECOND!”
Bebe asks, “WHAT?”
(Chuckling)
Mo continues,
“I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T
THINK OF THIS SOONER!”
Bebe asks, “WHAT? WHAT?!”
(Chuckling)
Mo adds, “JUST BECAUSE IT'S RAINING
DOESN'T MEAN WE CAN'T
GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY ANYWAY.”
(Gasping)
Bebe says, “HEY, YOU'RE
TOTALLY RIGHT!
SO WE GET A LITTLE WET.
NO BIG DEAL.”
Mo looks unsure.
He says, “RIGHT.”
Bebe adds, “WE'LL JUMP AND SPLASH
IN ALL THE PUDDLES!”
Mo says, “OH, YEAH, TOTALLY!
YEAH.”
Bebe states, “OH, THIS IS
GONNA BE GREAT!
COME ON, MO, LET'S GET GOING
BEFORE THE RAIN STOPS!”
Mo says, “OH, BUT-- BUT BEBE,
WHAT ARE WE GONNA--”
The female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI
NEW BRUNSWICK,
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
QUEBEC, ONTARIO, MANITOBA
AND THERE ARE MORE
BC, ALBERTA,
SASKATCHEWAN
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES,

AS THEY EXPLORE ONE OF CANADA'S
FAVOURITE SPORTS.”
(Wind whooshing)
Bebe skates on a frozen lake near
a mountain.
She says, “OH, HERE COMES NUMBER 1
FOR THE FOREST FLYERS,
SKATING DOWN THE ICE!
IT'S CANADIAN HOCKEY SUPERSTAR
BEBE THE BEAVER!”
(Panting)
Bebe continues, “SHE SHOOTS--”
Bebe shoots a puck at a net made of
wooden logs.
Bebe says, “SHE SCORES!
AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!”
(Giggling)
Bebe adds, “AND NOW, SKATING
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER,
GIVE IT UP
FOR BEBE'S TEAMMATE,
MO THE MOOSE!”
Mo shakes his head
He replies, “NN-MM.
NN-MM, NN-MM, NN-MM!”
Bebe says, “MO?”
Mo responds, “I--
I CAN'T DO IT, BEBE.
MOOSE WERE DEFINITELY
NOT BUILT FOR SKATING.”
Bebe says, “OH, NONSENSE.
IF I CAN DO IT,
SO CAN YOU, MO.”
Mo asks, “BUT-- BUT--
WHAT IF I FALL?”
Bebe replies,
“FALLING IS NORMAL, MO.
I FELL LOTS OF TIMES
WHEN I WAS LEARNING TO SKATE.”
Mo responds, “YOU DID?”
Bebe adds,
“BUT I GOT RIGHT BACK UP
AND TRIED, TRIED,
TRIED AGAIN.”
Mo says,
“WELL, ALL RIGHT, THEN.”
(Grunting)
Mo continues, “HERE--
I GO!
(Straining)
Mo skates backwards.
He says, “WHOA. WHOA!”
Bebe adds,
“YEAH, THAT'S IT, MO.
LOOKIN' REALLY GOOD!”
Mo replies, “WHOA, WHOA!
WHOA, WHOA-WHOA-WHOA!”
Bebe instructs,
“TURN, TURN, TURN!”
(Mo screaming)
Mo says, “YEESH.”
Bebe adds, “TRY--
UH, MO, YOU MIGHT
WANNA LOOK OUT FOR THAT--”
(Crashing)
Bebe continues, “--SNOWBANK.”
Mo’s feet stick out the top of
a snowbank.
(Sighing)
The female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI

Created by Ben Mazzotta”
The Canadian flag flaps in the
breeze as snow falls on Bebe’s dam.
Text reads, “Sports”
(Wind Whooshing)
Mo looks at the orange tablet. Bebe
rushes to him carrying a hockey stick.
(Panting)
Bebe says,
“THE CLOCK TICKS DOWN
THE SECONDS
AS BEBE SKATES
DOWN THE ICE!”
Bebe runs away from Mo.
Mo asks, “HMM.
DID YOU KNOW
THAT HOCKEY
IS CANADA'S OFFICIAL
WINTER SPORT, BEBE?”
Bebe replies, “OH, I CAN SEE WHY!
IT'S AWESOME!
SHE TAKES LEFT,
THEN RIGHT.
OH, WHADDA MOVE!”
Mo continues, “IT EVEN SAYS HERE
THAT CANADIANS INVENTED
THE GAME OF HOCKEY.”
Bebe responds, “YOU DON'T SAY.
HUH.
SHE TAKES THE SHOT!”
(Clatter)
The puck bounces around the dam.
Mo and Bebe duck.
(Clanging)
Bebe says, “WHOA!”
(Clatter)
She adds, “OOPSY.
OH, BOY, OH, BOY,
I JUST LOVE
PLAYING HOCKEY!”
Bebe sings,
“I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH
JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH”
OF THAT SWEET OLD HOCKEY GAME”
(Laughing)
Mo says, “OH, CHECK THIS OUT!
IT SAYS THE FIRST ORGANIZED
INDOOR HOCKEY GAME
WAS PLAYED IN THE CITY
OF MONTREAL
Mo scrolls through black and white
hockey photos on the tablet.
Bebe replies, “WHOA!
COOL OLD TIMEY UNIFORMS!”
Mo adds, “NOT LONG AFTER THAT,
ALL KINDS OF HOCKEY LEAGUES
WERE STARTED,
AND HOCKEY TURNED INTO THE GAME
WE KNOW AND LOVE TODAY.”
Bebe responds, “COOL!
HEHE.”
(Goose honking)
Bebe says,
“OH, YOU KNOW WHAT
THAT SOUND MEANS-
IT'S GAVIN CALLING!”
Mo responds, “I WONDER WHERE
HE'S CALLING FROM TODAY.”
Mo answers a video chat from Gavin.
(Beeping)
Gavin sits in the front row of a
packed arena.
He says, “OH, HEY YOU TWO!
OH, GO-GO-GO-GO-GO, YEAH!”
Gavin watches a lacrosse game.
(Laughing, crowd cheering)
Mo asks, “HEY, GAVIN.
WHERE ARE YOU TODAY?”
Gavin answers, “I'M HERE
AT A LACROSSE GAME.
IT'S CANADA'S OFFICIAL
SUMMER SPORT, YOU KNOW.”
Bebe responds, “LACROSSE?
WHAT'S THAT?”
Gavin replies, “IT'S A SPORT
THAT'S KINDA LIKE HOCKEY
EXCEPT THERE ARE
A FEW DIFFERENCES.
CAN YOU SEE
WHAT THEY ARE?”
Bebe says,
“HMM, THE PLAYERS WEAR HELMETS
AND HAVE PADDING LIKE HOCKEY,
BUT GET AROUND
BY RUNNING ON A FLOOR
INSTEAD OF
SKATING ON ICE.
HMM.”
Mo adds, “OH, AND--
AND ALL THEIR STICKS
HAVE A BASKET
ON THE END OF IT,
WHICH THEY USE TO PASS
AND SHOOT THE BALL?”
A goal is scored at the lacrosse game
(Crowd cheering)
Bebe says, “WOW, SWEET GOAL!
HAHA.”
Text reads, “Fun Fact”
Gavin says,
“LACROSSE WAS INVENTED
BY FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE
HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS
OF YEARS AGO,
MAKING IT THE OLDEST SPORT
IN CANADA.”
(Chuckling)
(Gasping)
Bebe asks, “SO LACROSSE IS OLDER
THAN HOCKEY?”
Gavin answers, “OH, YEAH.
IT'S ONE OF THE FIRST SPORTS
PLAYED HERE IN CANADA.”
Bebe says, “HEY, WE SHOULD START
OUR OWN LACROSSE TEAM!
HOCKEY IN THE WINTER
AND LACROSSE IN THE SUMMER!”
Mo responds, “HO-HO!”
Gavin adds, “GREAT IDEA, BEBE!
I'M AN EXCELLENT GOALIE.”
A ball hits Gavin in the head. He falls.
(Boinking)
He gets up.
Gavin says, “SEE WHAT I MEAN?”
(Dizzy groaning)
Gavin falls again
Mo replies, “HEH. SEE YA, GAVIN.”
Bebe adds, “BYE, GAVIN!”
(Giggling)
Bebe says, “HEY, MO?”
Mo replies, “HM?”
Bebe asks, “WHAT SAY WE HIT THE RINK
FOR SOME MORE PRACTICE?”
Mo responds, “I-- UH, BEBE,
I DON'T KNOW.”
Bebe says, “WELL, PRACTICE MAKES
PERFECT, YOU KNOW.
PLUS, I HAVE A LITTLE
SURPRISE FOR YOU!”
Mo looks surprised.
He says, “REALLY?”
Bebe nods.
She replies, “MM-HM.”
Mo and Bebe wear hockey helmets
as they stand behind the boards at
an indoor hockey rink.
(Gasping)
Bebe says, “HEY, LOOK, MO.
IT'S DARRYL SITTLER-
HE'S MY FAVOURITE
HOCKEY PLAYER OF ALL TIME!”
Mo adds, “PRETTY NEAT.”
Darryl says, “HEY THERE, YOU TWO!”
Bebe replies, “HI, DARRYL!”
Darryl skates toward Mo and Bebe.
He says, “HEY, MO.
BEBE TELLS ME YOU NEED
A LITTLE HELP WITH YOUR SKATING.”
Mo responds, “OH, YEAH.
I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER
LEARN HOW TO SKATE.”
Darryl replies, “SURE YOU WILL.
IT JUST TAKES
A LITTLE BIT OF PRACTICE.”
Mo asks, “WELL, WAS IT HARD
FOR YOU TO LEARN
HOW TO SKATE
AND PLAY HOCKEY?”
Darryl answers,
“IT'S A LITTLE HARD,
BUT YOU JUST--
YOU NEVER GIVE UP.
YOU JUST KEEP
WORKIN' ON IT.”
Bebe asks,
“WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART
ABOUT PLAYING HOCKEY?”
Darryl responds,
“I JUST LOVE IT.
YOU GET THE FANS,
SCORE A GOAL,
THEY CHEER FOR YA.”
Bebe adds, “AND YOU GET TO BE
ON A TEAM,
AND YOU GET
TO SCORE GOALS,
AND IF YOU'RE THE GOALIE,
YOU GET TO MAKE AMAZING SAVES
LIKE-- CHA!
OR, UM, UH-- TAA!
OR, UM-- PING!”
(Giggling)
Darryl says,
“AND ALL THAT STUFF TOO.
COME ON, MO,
LET'S GET YA SKATING.”
Bebe continues,
“OKAY, COME ON, MO.
LET'S GO!
LET'S GO, LET'S GO!”
Mo replies, “NO-- DON'T PUSH--”
He steps onto the ice.
Darryl says, “TAKE MY HAND.
I GOT YOU.
NICE AND EASY,
GOOD JOB.
DON'T WORRY,
I GOTCHA.”
Mo replies, “OKAY. OKAY.”
Bebe adds, “LET'S GO SKATING!”
She holds her hockey stick as she
skates onto the ice.
Mo says, “WHOA! UNGH.”
Bebe says, “AH, AND SHE
TAKES A SHOT.”
(Puck whooshing)
Bebe adds, “AND SHE SCORES!
I'M AWESOME!”
Darryl lets go of Mo’s hand.
Mo says, “WHAT--
HUH? WHA?
HA! HEY!”
Darryl says, “CHECK IT OUT, MO.
YOU'RE SKATING!”
Mo adds, “AH! HEY, I'M SKATING!
I'M DOING IT!
BEBE, LOOK AT ME!
WHOA!
WHOA!”
(Chuckling)
Bebe says, “WAY TO GO, MO!”
Mo adds, “YEAH!”
Daryl continues,
“AND ONCE YOU LEARN
HOW TO SKATE,
NOW YOU CAN PLAY HOCKEY.”
Mo replies, “WHOA, I CAN'T
WA--
WHOA, WHOA!
--WAIT.”
(Chuckling)
Mo adds, “’SCUSE ME.”
Mo skates around the rink.
The female singer sings,
“NOVA SCOTIA, PEI
NEW BRUNSWICK,
NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
QUEBEC, ONTARIO, MANITOBA
AND THERE ARE MORE
BC, ALBERTA,
SASKATCHEWAN
NORTHWEST TERRITORIES,
NUNAVUT, YUKON
EASTERN MARITIMES,
WESTERN PRAIRIES
PROVINCES TEN,
TERRITORIES THREE”

Andrea adds, “NOW, LET'S DO
SOME MORE EXPLORING
ABOUT THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES
YOU CAN DO DURING THE SEASONS.
FOR THIS NEXT ACTIVITY,
I'M GONNA NEED YOUR HELP.
HERE I HAVE AN ACTIVITY
OF KIDS SWIMMING.
WHERE DO YOU THINK
THIS ACTIVITY MIGHT GO?
DO YOU THINK THIS IS
A SUMMER, FALL,
WINTER,
OR SPRING ACTIVITY?
NOW, NORMALLY,
WE MIGHT THINK OF THIS ACTIVITY
AS A SUMMER ACTIVITY.
BUT BECAUSE WE HAVE
INDOOR SWIMMING POOLS,
IT'S POSSIBLE FOR US
TO SWIM IN THE FALL,
THE SPRING,
AND THE WINTER.
SO, THIS ACTIVITY IS REALLY
AN ALL-YEAR-ROUND ACTIVITY.
SO, LET'S PUT IT IN THE SPRING,
JUST FOR NOW.”
Andrea sticks a cartoon of three kids
swimming on the section of the paper
labeled “Spring”.
Andrea adds,
“HOW ABOUT THIS NEXT ACTIVITY-
SKIING?
SKIING IS A WINTER ACTIVITY
BECAUSE IN ORDER TO SKI,
YOU NEED SNOW,
AND THAT WE WOULD FIND
IN THE WINTER.
SO, LET'S PUT OUR SKIING
ACTIVITY IN OUR WINTER COLUMN.”
Andrea sticks a picture of a girl
holding skis under the title “Winter”.
She continues,
“HOW ABOUT PLAYING SOCCER?
WHERE DO YOU THINK
YOU MIGHT PLACE THIS ONE?
I'LL GIVE YOU A MOMENT
TO THINK ABOUT IT.”
Andrea puts tape on a picture
of kids playing soccer.
She says, “IF YOU SAID EITHER
SUMMER, FALL, OR SPRING,
I THINK YOU'D BE CORRECT.
BECAUSE THIS ACTIVITY,
AS LONG AS THE WEATHER
IS PRETTY GOOD,
WE'RE ABLE TO DO
THIS KIND OF ACTIVITY.
SO, WE CAN PUT IT
IN THE SUMMER,
WE COULD PUT IT
IN THE FALL,
OR WE COULD DO IT
IN THE SPRING.
UNFORTUNATELY, SOCCER OUTSIDE
WOULDN'T BE A WINTER SPORT.
LET'S PUT IT
IN THE FALL FOR NOW.”
Andrea sticks the soccer picture under
the title “Fall”.
She continues, “HOW ABOUT
THIS NEXT ACTIVITY?
MAYBE YOU'VE
DONE THIS ACTIVITY
WITH YOUR FRIENDS
OR YOUR FAMILY-
BUILDING A SNOWMAN?
IF YOU SAID WINTER
YOU'D BE RIGHT,
BECAUSE THIS ACTIVITY REQUIRES
SOME GOOD PACKING SNOW.”
Andrea stick a picture of kids building
a snowman under the picture of the
girl with the skis.
Andrea says, “SO, LET'S PUT THIS ACTIVITY
IN OUR WINTER SECTION.”
Andrea picks up another picture.
She asks, “HOW ABOUT
THIS ONE RIGHT HERE?
ENJOYING A DAY
AT THE BEACH.
I THINK THIS ACTIVITY--
YOU'RE RIGHT.
I'D PUT IT
IN THE SUMMER SECTION.”
SO, LET'S PUT OUR BEACH DAY
IN THE SUMMER SECTION.
Andrea sticks a picture of two girls
standing on the beach with a flamingo
in the summer section.
Andrea continues,
“AND HOW ABOUT THIS ACTIVITY
RIGHT HERE- SKATING?
PERHAPS YOU'VE DONE
THIS ACTIVITY.
THIS ACTIVITY REQUIRES
THE ICE TO FREEZE
AND BECOME A FROZEN LAKE
OR A FROZEN POND
SO THAT
WE CAN SKATE ON IT.
THIS REQUIRES THE WEATHER
TO BE QUITE COLD,
SO WHERE DO YOU THINK
WE MIGHT PUT THIS?
IF YOU SAID OUR WINTER SECTION,
YOU'D BE RIGHT.”
Andrea add a picture of two girls
skating to the other pictures in the
winter section.
She continues, “AND WHAT ABOUT
OUR LAST ACTIVITY HERE?
HERE ARE TWO KIDS
PLAYING ON THE MONKEY BARS.
WHERE WOULD
THIS ACTIVITY GO?
IF YOU SAID THE SUMMER,
THE FALL, OR THE SPRING,
I THINK YOU'D BE RIGHT,
BECAUSE WE JUST NEED THE WEATHER
TO BE A LITTLE BIT BETTER
FOR THIS ACTIVITY TO HAPPEN.
BUT, SINCE THE KIDS ARE WEARING
SHORT-SLEEVE SHIRTS,
AND WE USUALLY DO THAT
WHEN THE WEATHER IS REALLY NICE,
LET'S PUT THIS
IN OUR SUMMER SECTION.”
Andrea sticks a picture of two kids hanging
from monkey bars under the beach picture.
Andrea adds,
“AND THERE WE HAVE ALL
OUR SEASONAL ACTIVITIES.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR YOUR HELP.
I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.
NOW, IN ADDITION
TO ACTIVITIES
THAT WE HAVE
IN OUR VARIOUS SEASONS,
WE ALSO HAVE FESTIVALS.
LET'S GO AND VISIT
A VERY SPECIAL WINTER FESTIVAL
WE HAVE RIGHT HERE
IN CANADA.”
A graphic reads, “TVO K News”
A dark-haired man with glasses says,
“WELCOME BACK TO TVOK NEWS!
NOW, WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART
ABOUT WINTER?
FOR ME,
IT'S DEFINITELY THE SNOW.
THE MORE, THE BETTER!
THERE'S SO MUCH
I LIKE TO DO IN THE SNOW.
TOBOGGAN, SNOWSHOE,
I LIKE TO GET OUT THERE
WITH MY FRIENDS
AND MAKE SNOW ANGELS
AND BUILD FORTS.
SO MUCH FUN!
IF YOU'RE A SNOW PERSON
LIKE ME,
YOU WOULD LOVE
THE QUEBEC WINTER CARNIVAL.
CARNIVAL DE QUÉBEC.
IT'S ONE OF THE LARGEST
WINTER FESTIVALS IN THE WORLD.
NOW, I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY
BEEN TO THE CARNIVAL,
BUT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED
TO GO.
MAYBE THIS YEAR
WILL BE MY LUCKY YEAR!
IT STARTS THIS FRIDAY,
FEBRUARY THE 8TH,
AND GOES UNTIL SUNDAY,
FEBRUARY THE 17TH.
THE FIRST CARNIVAL
WAS 125 YEARS AGO IN 1894.
HERE'S A PICTURE!”
A black and white photograph shows
a tall building on the edge of a
frozen canal.
The dark-haired man adds, “NOW,
IT WASN'T UNTIL 1955
THAT THE FESTIVAL
BECAME AN ANNUAL EVENT,
CELEBRATED EVERY YEAR.
THE MASCOT OF THE FESTIVAL
IS BONHOMME.
HE LOOKS LIKE
A GIANT SNOWMAN.
HE'S THE KING
OF THE FESTIVITIES
AND HIS JOB IS TO BRING JOY
OF THE WINTER TO EVERYONE.
EVERY YEAR,
THE MAYOR OF QUÉBEC CITY
GIVES BONHOMME
THE KEYS TO THE CITY,
WHICH CONFIRMS HIM AS THE
AMBASSADOR TO THE CARNIVAL.”
The dark-haired man adds, “SO COOL!
THERE'S LOTS TO SEE AND DO.
THERE'S A DAYTIME
AND NIGHTTIME PARADE,
CANOE RACING ON THE FROZEN
SAINT LAWRENCE RIVER,
THERE'S LIVE MUSIC,
AND LOTS OF GREAT FOOD TO TRY,
AND OF COURSE,
YOU HAVE TO GO SEE
BONHOMME'S ICE PALACE!
SO, IF YOU CAN,
GO CHECK IT OUT.
BUT IN THE MEANTIME,
I'M HOPING FOR MORE SNOW!
I WANNA MAKE MY OWN
BONHOMME DE NEIGE.
STAY TUNED FOR OUR FEATURE STORY
COMING UP NEXT.”
A graphic reads, “TVO K News”
Andrea says,
“NOW THAT WE'VE EXPLORED SOME
WINTER ACTIVITIES AND FESTIVALS,
LET'S JOIN TEACHER DENISE
AS SHE GUIDES US THROUGH
A SPECIAL SUMMER ACTIVITY.”
(Theme music playing)
A graphic reads, “Power up”
Stars rotate.
Lucas says, “WHAT'S UP,
TVOKIDS?
YOU GUYS ARE HANGIN' OUT
WITH LUCAS AND LAURA,
AND IT IS FEELIN' LIKE
SUMMER IN HERE TODAY.
HOW DO YOU FEEL,
LAURA?”
Laura replies, “IT DEFINITELY IS.
CHECK IT OUT,
I'VE GOT MY BEACH TOWEL,
MY SUNGLASSES.
I'M IN
MY BATHING SUIT,
I'M READY TO--
I'M READY
FOR SUMMER!”
Lucas adds, “I TOTALLY AM TOO.
UM, SO,
LET'S GET LOUNGING!
WHADDYA SAY?”
Laura answers, “I SAY

(Chuckling)
Lucas says, “OKAY.
MAYBE WE
WON'T LOUNGE,
BUT WE'LL DEFINITELY
HAVE AN AWESOME WORKOUT.
NOW, TVOKIDS,
YOU JUST WANNA MAKE SURE
THAT YOU HAVE
A SAFE SPACE TO DO THIS,
YOU GET A MAT TO PUT DOWN
ON THE GROUND,
AND GRAB SOME WATER
SO YOU CAN STAY HYDRATED.
PLEASE WELCOME OUR HEALTH
AND PHYS ED TEACHER-
IT'S DENISE!”
Denise replies, “HI, TVOKIDS.
AMAZING,
NICE TO MEET YOU.
UH, MY NAME IS DENISE.
AND WHEN I'M NOT A HEALTH
AND PHYS ED TEACHER,
I'M AN AMBASSADOR FOR OPHEA,
AND WE WORK TO SUPPORT
GETTING STUDENTS MOVING.
SO, THAT'S OVER
TWO MILLION KIDS!
I WOULD LOVE TO JOIN YOU TODAY
WITH FIVE MOVES,
AND LAURA WILL BE MODIFYING
THOSE FOR YOU.”
Laura waves as she sits in a chair.
Denise continues,
“HI! WAVE TO LAURA!
AND LUCAS IS THERE
DOING THE MOVES AS WELL.
OKAY,
LET'S GET STARTED
WITH OUR FIRST
SUMMER MOVE.
SO, SKIPPING ROPE.
YOU'RE GONNA PRETEND
YOU HAVE A ROPE,
AND YOU'RE JUST
GOING TO SKIP.
TWO FEET,
USING THOSE ARMS AS WELL
SO YOU'RE GETTING

WHERE YOU CRISS-CROSS
THE ARMS.
NICE!
YOU'RE GONNA
HOP ON ONE FOOT.
TRY HOPPING
ON ONE FOOT.
YOU'RE GONNA GO BACK

Denise adds, “GOOD JOB, LAURA!

SHOULDERS? NICE!
CRISS-CROSS.

WE'RE GONNA
GET OURSELVES READY
TO GET SOME REALLY FAST

FAKE THEM OUT,

LAURA, ARE YOU GOING
FOR A THREE-POINTER?
AND SHOOT!
WOO!
EXCELLENT.”
Denise instructs,
“WE'RE GONNA MOVE ON
TO SOME HOPSCOTCH.
HERE WITH HOPSCOTCH,
I WANT YOU TO THINK ABOUT
ONE FOOT FOR BALANCE,
BUT YOU CAN USE TWO.
HOP, HOP, HOP,
FEET APART.
HOP, HOP, HOP,
FEET APART.
THEN YOU'RE GONNA RETRY
WITH THE OTHER LEG.
ALL RIGHT.
LET'S SEE LUCAS
HOP, HOP, HOP,

GREAT!
HOP, HOP, HOP,

LAURA,
KEEP WORKING.
MOVE THAT FOOT.

LET'S TRY IT
WITH TWO FEET TOGETHER.
HOPPING ON TWO FEET.
HOP, HOP, HOP
AS HIGH AS YOU CAN,
FEET APART.
HOP, HOP, HOP,
FEET APART.
GO THROUGH AND TRY THAT
ONE MORE TIME.
YOU GOT IT.
WAY TO GO,
TVOKIDS!”
Lucas says,
“WOO! SO GOOD.”
Denise continues,
“OUR NEXT MOVE
IS SCOOTERING.
THIS ONE'S
A LITTLE BIT TRICKY.
YOU'RE GONNA PUT YOUR ARMS
OUT ON YOUR HANDLEBARS.
YOU'RE GONNA PUSH
WITH ONE FOOT.
YOU'RE BALANCING
ON YOUR SCOOTER.
MOVING
FROM SIDE TO SIDE.
OKAY?
LAURA? SHE'S MOVIN'
SIDE TO SIDE.”
Lucas says, “NICE!”
Denise continues,
“TURN THOSE WHEELS.
BEAUTIFUL.
I SEE AN AWESOME
TREE OUT THERE.”
(Chuckling)
Lucas says, “TOTALLY.”
Denise says,
“HOW ARE YOU GOIN'?”
Lucas replies,
“I'M GETTING
MY BALANCE!”
Denise continues,
“SWITCH LEGS
IF YOU HAVEN'T.
TRY AND SCOOTER
ON THE OTHER LEG.
BALANCE.
BALANCE ON THAT OTHER LEG.
PUSH. PUSH. PUSH.
AH, ENJOY THE RIDE.”
Lucas says, “WOO!”
Denise adds, “PUSH, PUSH, PUSH!
ENJOY THE RIDE.”
Lucas adds, “NICE!”
Denise says,
“OKAY, FOLKS.
HERE WE GO FOR
OUR LAST EXERCISE.
THAT'S THE KAYAK.
WE'RE SEATED IN OUR KAYAK,
GRAB YOUR PADDLE.
KAYAK, KAYAK, KAYAK, KAYAK.
RAISE YOUR PADDLE,
AND RIDE THE WAVES!”
LET'S SEE.
DO IT WITH ME,
LUCAS.
AND LAURA.
PADDLE, PADDLE,
PADDLE, PADDLE.
RIDE THE WAVES!”
Lucas says, “HEY!”
Denise adds, “WOO!
PADDLE, PADDLE,
PADDLE, PADDLE.
YOU'VE GOT IT,
TVOKIDS!
AMAZING!
KEEP GOIN'!
OH!
THAT WAS
A BIG SPLASH.
I GOT WET. ECK.
RIDE THE WAVE!
HERE WE GO. AH!
MY SIDES ARE GETTING
A LITTLE BIT TIRED.
WE'RE ALMOST
FINISHED.
WAY TO GO!
THIS IS AMAZING!
I CAN SEE THE SHORE.
HERE IT COMES!
LAST FOUR PADDLES--”
(Grunting)
Denise says, “RIDE THE WAVE!
FANTASTIC WORK.
WHEW.
PHEW!
THAT WAS AN AMAZING
EFFORT, TVOKIDS.
NOW, IT'S SUPER
IMPORTANT TO HYDRATE.
SO, MAKE SURE YOU GET
YOUR WATER IN.
AND WHEN YOU'RE FINISHED
WITH YOUR WATER,
DO A LITTLE STRETCH.
LAURA, LUCAS,
HAD AN AMAZING TIME.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.”
Lucas replies,
“THANK YOU, DENISE.”
Laura adds,
“THANK YOU SO MUCH,
TEACHER DENISE!
THAT WAS AWESOME.
MY HEART RATE IS UP.
LUCAS,
HOW ARE YOU FEELING?”
Lucas responds,
“UH, I'M DEFINITELY
FEELING A LITTLE SWEATY.
I'M FEELING
REALLY GOOD
AND I ALSO FEEL LIKE
I KIND OF GOT INSPIRED
BY ALL THE
SUMMER MOVES.
I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR THE
SUMMER THAT'S COMING OUR WAY.”
Laura says, “ME TOO!
WE SHOULD PROBABLY
STRETCH IT OUT
AND DRINK SOME WATER.
ALL RIGHT,”
Lucas adds, “LET'S DO THAT!”
Laura continues, “JOIN US NEXT TIME
FOR POWER UP!”
Lucas says, “BYE, TVOKIDS!”
Text reads, “A special thanks to OPHEA,
and the OPHEA ambassador team of
H&PE teachers getting us all moving!”
Andrea says, “OUR NEXT SUMMER ACTIVITY
IS AN ACTIVITY
THAT PERHAPS YOU,
YOUR FRIENDS, OR YOUR FAMILY
MIGHT ALREADY BE ENJOYING.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK.”
Andrea stands on a downtown
condo’s rooftop patio.
She says, “HI, EVERYONE, AND WELCOME
TO DOWNTOWN TORONTO.
NOW, THIS NEXT
SUMMER ACTIVITY
I'M GOING TO
INTRODUCE YOU TO
YOU, YOUR FRIENDS, OR YOUR
FAMILY MIGHT ALREADY BE DOING.
ALL YOU NEED
IS SOME SUNSHINE, WATER,
SOIL, AND SOME SEEDS
OR PERHAPS SOME PLANTS.
NOW, IF YOU GUESSED GARDENING
YOU'D BE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
TODAY I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE YOU
TO MY CONDO'S COMMUNITY GARDEN.
NOW, IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW
WHAT A COMMUNITY GARDEN IS,
IT'S A LARGE PIECE OF LAND
THAT'S SECTIONED OFF
INTO SMALLER PIECES
AND GIVEN TO PEOPLE
SO THAT THEY CAN GROW THEIR OWN
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.
LET'S TAKE A TOUR
OF WHAT PEOPLE AT MY CONDO
ARE CHOOSING TO GROW.”
Andrea walks past plants.
She continues,
“HERE WE HAVE SOME PARSLEY.
SOME BASIL OVER HERE.
SOMEONE'S GROWING SOME
VERY BEAUTIFUL CHERRY TOMATOES,
SO THOSE ARE THE SMALL,
LITTLE TOMATOES.
WE HAVE SOME MINT.
NOW, THIS ONE LOOKS
LIKE IT'S A FLOWER GARDEN.
SO, IT'S GONNA HAVE A COUPLE
OF DIFFERENT FLOWERS OVER HERE.
SOME ONIONS.
LETTUCE.
HERE WE HAVE SOME PEPPERS.
YELLOW PEPPERS
AND ORANGE PEPPERS.
AND SOME SWISS CHARD.”
Andrea adds, “NOW THAT YOU'VE
TAKEN A LOOK
AT SOME PLANTS THAT PEOPLE
ARE CHOOSING TO GROW
AT MY CONDO
COMMUNITY GARDEN,
LET'S TAKE A LOOK
AT A SNEAK PEEK
OF THE TVO MPOWER GAME,
PLANT LAB.”
A video game screen reads,
“Plant lab, Play!”
Text reads “Make predictions, perform
experiments, determine the probability of
an outcome, and make comparisons.”
A female voice in the video game says,
“DRAG TO ARRANGE POTS
FROM LEAST--
WHEN YOU'RE HAPPY
WITH YOUR PREDICTION,
TAP TO RUN
AT LEAST TEN TRIALS.
LET'S SEE WHICH PLANTS RECEIVE
THE MOST BURSTS OF LIGHT.”
(GAME NOISES)
Flower pots are dragged in front of a
window with a computer mouse.
Credits read, “TVO, m Power, create
your free account today!”
Andrea says, “IF YOU HAVEN'T
TRIED GARDENING ALREADY,
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
IT'S A GREAT WAY TO ENJOY NATURE
AND GROW YOUR OWN FOOD.
ON THE TOPIC OF GARDENING,
LET'S JOIN MARISSA,
AN 11-YEAR-OLD OJIBWE GIRL
FROM CURVE LAKE, ONTARIO,
AS SHE GOES OUT
TO HARVEST WILD RICE.”
A male narrator says,
“MEET MARISSA.
SHE BOMBS THE TRAILS
IN THE BACKYARD.
SHE'S GONNA SHOW YOU
HOW TO HARVEST WILD RICE!”
Marissa shouts, “WOOHOO!”
The narrator continues,
“THEN, WATCH HER TURN THE RICE
INTO A DELICIOUS DISH!”
Marissa says, “THAT SMELLS
REALLY GOOD!”
The narrator says, “LET'S GO!”
Marissa nods as she eats.
Photographs of kids are hung on a
clothesline in front of a cartoon
mountain.
A gray bird is perched on the clothesline
(Squawking)
Text reads, “Raven's Quest”
(Squawking)
Marissa sits on a dock on a sunny day.
She says, “AANIIN, HELLO.
MY NAME IS MARISSA,
I'M 11 YEARS OLD,
I'M OJIBWE,
AND I LIVE
IN CURVE LAKE, ONTARIO.”
Curve Lake is located on a map.
Marissa continues,
“I LIKE LIVING HERE
BECAUSE IT'S QUIET,
AND VERY OUTDOORSY.
PEOPLE ARE HAPPY
IN OUR COMMUNITY.
I'M PROUD OF LIVING
IN CURVE LAKE.
THIS IS MY FRIEND KRISTA.
AANIIN!
IT'S FALL HARVEST TIME
AND WE'RE ABOUT
TO GO RICING.”
Marissa adds,
"RICING" IS THE WORD WE USE
WHEN WE GO IN A CANOE AND START
HARVESTING THE WILD RICE.
WILD RICE GROWS IN THE LAKE
NEAR THE EDGE OF THE WATER.
WILD RICE IS BASICALLY
A SEED FROM A PLANT
THAT GROWS INTO THE WATER.
I'M USING THESE TWO STICKS.
YOU USE ONE STICK
TO PULL THE RICE STALK
INTO THE CANOE,
AND THEN YOU KNOCK IT
WITH THE OTHER.“
The Raven flexes its muscles.
Marissa says,
“THIS IS REALLY FUN,
BUT LIKE,
THIS IS
REALLY HARD WORK.
WOOHOO!
THIS IS A TRADITIONAL WAY
TO HARVEST THE RICE.
WHEN WE FINISH
HARVESTING THE WILD RICE,
WE SOAK IT
TO GET ALL THE BUGS OUT.”
A ladybug crawls past the boat.
Marissa continues,
“DO YOU WANNA KNOW
THE OJIBWE WORD FOR WILD RICE?
IT'S "MANOMIN".
MANOMIN.
THAT'S THE OJIBWE WORD
FOR WILD RICE.
THIS IS MY HOUSE.
COME ON!”
Marissa runs across her lawn and
into her house.
She says,
“THIS IS MY DOG, BLUE.
CAN YOU GUESS
WHY HIS NAME IS BLUE?
LOOK AT HIS EYES.
HE HAS ONE BLUE EYE
AND ONE BROWN EYE.
THIS IS MY BIRD.
ITS NAME IS BIRDIE.
I KNOW, VERY BASIC.
BUT WE DON'T KNOW
IF IT'S A BOY OR A GIRL.
HERE'S MY ROOM!”
Marissa steps onto her bed.
Medals and plaques hang from
the wall.
Marissa says, “SO, I LIKE TO PLAY HOCKEY.
OUR TEAM'S NAME
IS NIMKIINS KWE,
WHICH MEANS "THUNDER WOMAN".
MY POSITION IS RIGHT WING,
AND IN 2017,
WE UNFORTUNATELY GOT SILVER,
BUT WE KINDA TOUGHED UP
AND IN 2018,
WE GOT GOLD.”
(Crows cheering)
Marissa’s team celebrates on the ice.
She says, “SO, YOU CAN DO
ANYTHING YOU WANT.
YOU JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE
IN YOURSELF.
THIS IS REALLY SPECIAL STAFF
THAT I GOT MADE
FROM MY UNCLE DAVE.
HE HAD IT ALL DECORATED
WITH SOME DUCK FEATHERS,
AND IT HAS
THE MEDICINE WHEEL COLOURS,
THE FOUR COLOURS.
I REALLY LIKE IT BECAUSE
IT'S LIKE A SUPER UNIQUE STAFF.
IT HAS MY FAVOURITE COLOUR,
PURPLE,
AND IT HAS THIS
REALLY COOL DREAMCATCHER
THAT MY UNCLE MADE.
THIS IS MY HAIRPIECE.
I WEAR IT AT A POW WOW.
I PUT IT IN MY HAIR
WHEN MY HAIR IS BRAIDED,
AND I DANCE WITH IT.
I HAVE TWO OPTIONS.
I HAVE ONE WITH LIKE,
JUST A FEATHER
AND THEN THE OTHER
IS JUST PURPLE
AND IT HAS LIKE LITTLE FUZZIES
AND EVERYTHING.
I CAN EITHER WEAR
WHATEVER OPTION I WANT TO
OR I CAN WEAR BOTH OF THEM
AT THE SAME TIME.”
Marissa adds, “THIS IS MY
BEST FRIEND APRIL.”
April says, “HEY!”
Marissa continues, “AND WE LIKE
TO RIDE TRAILS.”
Marissa and April ride bikes on a dirt path.
(Giggling)
Marissa says, “ME AND APRIL
ARE REALLY GOOD FRIENDS
BECAUSE WE'VE GROWN UP
WITH EACH OTHER.
WE'VE KNOWN EACH OTHER
SINCE JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN,
WHICH IS
QUITE A LONG TIME.”
Marissa rides down a hill. Text reads
“Marissa Cam”
Marissa continues, “WE'RE REALLY NICE
TO EACH OTHER.
WE HAVE LIKE,
REALLY GREAT MOMENTS
AND LAUGH A LOT
WHEN WE SEE EACH OTHER.
SHE'S JUST A REALLY GREAT
AND GOOD PERSON.”
April and Marissa hug near a lake.
Marissa adds,
“I'M ON MY WAY TO MEET
THE CHIEF OF CURVE LAKE.
LET'S GO!”
A sign on a building reads, “Curve Lake
First Nation, Government Services Building”.
Marissa enters the building. She walks
into a room labeled “Council chambers”.
A woman seated at a large table
says, “COME ON IN, MARISSA!”
Marissa replies, “AANIIN, NAN.”
The woman asks, “HOW YOU DOIN'?”
Marissa answers, “GOOD.”
The woman adds, “THAT'S GREAT.”
Marissa says,
“MY GRANDMA IS THE CHIEF
OF CURVE LAKE.”
The Chief asks,
“SO, HAVE YOU BEEN
ON THE LAKE?
HAVE YOU
CHECKED THE RICE?”
Marissa answers, “YEP.”
The Chief replies
“YEAH? MANOMIN, RIGHT?”
Marissa says, “SHE'S A REALLY
GREAT LEADER.
SHE'S BRAVE,
SHE IS REALLY WISE.
AND SOMEDAY I HOPE
TO BE CHIEF LIKE HER.”
The Chief says, “OKAY, I HAVE
SOMETHING ELSE TO GET
TO, SO--”
Marissa responds, “OKAY.”
The Chief replies, “OKAY!
HAVE A GOOD
REST OF THE DAY
AND I'LL
SEE YOU LATER.”
Marissa says, “OKAY.”
The Chief adds, “ALL RIGHT.
LOVE YOU.”
Marissa replies, “LOVE YOU.”
The Chief says “THANK YOU.
BUH-BYE”.
Marissa replies, “BYE.”
Marissa leaves the council chambers.
She continues, “NOW THAT WE'VE HARVESTED
THE WILD RICE,
IT'S TIME TO ROAST IT.
COME ON, APRIL,
HELP ME.
WE PUT THE WILD RICE
INTO A POT
OVER THE COALS
TO ROAST IT,
AND ROASTING IT
MAKES IT EASIER
TO TAKE THE SHELLS OFF.
MY DAD HELPS US DRY
AND ROAST THE WILD RICE.”
Marissa shakes a pot on a fire pit.
Smoke rises.
(Coughing)
Marissa adds, “THEN WE PUT IT
ON A BIG SHEET…”
Marissa and April empty the rice
onto a bed sheet on the lawn.
Marissa says, “AND TOSS IT IN THE AIR.
THIS SEPARATES THE RICE GRAINS
FROM THE HUSKS.
THE BITS OF STEM
AND THE HARD SHELL
GET BLOWN AWAY
IN THE WIND.
WE CALL THIS WINNOWING.
AFTER WE THROW IT
INTO THE AIR,
WE CRUSH IT A BIT
WITH OUR FEET.
WHEN YOU'RE CRUSHING IT
WITH YOUR FEET,
YOU'RE HELPING THE SEEDS
POP OUT OF THEIR SHELL.
MOVE OVER.
AT THE END, YOU GOTTA PICK OUT
THE SEEDS ONE BY ONE.
AND THEN IT'S READY
TO EAT OR TO COOK WITH.
OOH, THAT'S A GOOD PILE.”
Marissa and April hop in the kitchen.
Marissa says, “WELCOME TO THE--
APRIL & MARISSA
COOKING SHOW!
TODAY WE'RE GOING TO BE MAKING
WILD RICE PUDDING-
JULIE'S RECIPE.
JULIE'S MY COUSIN.
WHAT YOU'RE GONNA NEED
IS FOUR CUPS
OF COOKED WILD RICE,
ONE HALF CUP OF CREAM,
EIGHT EGGS…”
Marissa cracks eggs over a pot.
She adds, “ONE CUP OF MAPLE
SYRUP. ONE TABLESPOON
OF NUTMEG.”
April says, “AND ADD RAISINS
IF YOU LIKE.”
Marissa says, “BUT WE'RE NOT
GONNA ADD RAISINS
'CAUSE NOBODY
LIKES THEM, SO.”
April comments,
“IT'S TURNING YELLOW.”
Marissa pours milk over a tray
of wild rice.
She reads,
“BAKE AT 350 UNTIL TOP IS BROWN
AND CRACKS A BIT."
A timer in front of the oven winds down.
The rice pudding is pulled out of the oven
And laid on a counter.
Marissa says, “MMM, THAT SMELLS
REALLY GOOD.”
April adds, “UH-HUH.”
Marissa and April say, “TASTE TEST!”
A portion of rice pudding is placed
on Marissa’s plate.
She says, “LET'S TRY IT.”
(Giggling)
April says, “THAT'S REALLY GOOD.
Marissa adds, “MM-HM.
OH, YES.
YOU CAN REALLY TASTE
THE NUTMEG.”
April says, “DELISH.”
Marissa replies, “THIS IS SO GOOD!”
(Giggling)
Marissa says, “GIGA-WAABAMIN,
GOODBYE. THANKS FOR VISITING
CURVE LAKE.”
The raven flies from one branch
to another
(Squawking)
A kid says “WHEE”
Text reads, “TVO Kids. Apartment
11 Productions.”
(Giggling)
Andrea says, “NOW, WE'VE LOOKED
AT SOME WINTER ACTIVITIES
AND SOME SUMMER ACTIVITIES.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK
AT THE SEASON OF SPRING.”
Lucas and Laura hurry across a bridge.
They run through a thick forest. Lucas
and Laura stretch out their arms as they
balance on a fallen tree trunk. They cross
a babbling brook. Lucas has dark hair and
an orange t-shirt. Laura has long brown
hair. She wears a pink t-shirt. They cross
under a wooden bridge and run past
numerous locations.
Lucas and Laura sing the theme song,
“PACK UP YOUR BAGS
KISS YOUR TURTLE GOODBYE
COME UP AND CLIMB
WHERE WE CAN TOUCH THE SKY
SO MUCH TO SEE
SO MUCH TO DO
IN OUR TREE FORT,
WE GOT A SHOW FOR YOU
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW,
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW,
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW”
(Geese Squawking)
Lucas whispers in Laura’s ear.
Text reads “Daffodil”
(Slide whistle)
Lucas climbs a rope ladder in a forest.
The theme song continues,
“LA, LA, LA, LA.
DO, DO, DO, DO.
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.
THAT TVOKIDS SHOW.”
Text reads, “That TVO Kids show”
A dark-haired woman with pigtails
waves on a screen in the sky.
Laura says, “OKAY, MONICA,
ARE YOU READY?”
Monica responds, “I'M SO READY!”
Laura replies, “OKAY, AMAZING
BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE
SPRINGTIME SCAVENGER HUNTS,
WHICH IS WHAT YOU'RE
GONNA BE ON NOW!
YOU GOT THE LIST
I GAVE YOU?”
Monica says, “I GOT YOUR
MAILBOX LETTER.
OKAY, LOOK.
I WENT TO MY MAILBOX
AND I FOUND A LIST
OF SCAVENGER HUNT ITEMS
FOR SPRING.
I'M SO EXCITED, I'M GONNA TRY
AND GET EVERYTHING ON THIS LIST.”
Laura responds, “OKAY, YES.
HERE'S THE CATCH,
THOUGH, MONICA.
YOU ONLY HAVE 15 MINUTES
TO FIND ALL OF THEM!”
Monica says, “15 MINUTES?
HOW AM I GONNA DO THAT?
WAIT-- OKAY,
I HAVE MY BINOCULARS.
I NEED--
I NEED A JAR OF PEANUTS.
I NEED, UH--
I NEED MY PICTURE--
I NEED TO TAKE PICTURES!
OKAY, I DON'T KNOW
HOW I'M GONNA DO THIS
BUT I GOTTA GO.
BYE, LAURA.”
Laura replies, “OKAY, HURRY!
YES, THE CLOCK
IS TICKING!
GO FIND SIGNS OF SPRING.
THAT'S RIGHT, TVOKIDS.
I HAVE SENT MONICA ON
A SPRINGTIME SCAVENGER HUNT
SO SHE IS OUT SEARCHING
FOR LITTLE SIGNS OF SPRING
THAT ARE STARTING
TO SHOW UP,
AND CHECK IT OUT.
WE'VE GOT SOME SIGNS OF SPRING
IN THE TREE FORT!
CAN YOU FIND THEM?”
(Foghorn honking)
Laura rushes to a tuba.
She says, “OH!
GONNA GET THAT CALL FIRST.”
(Horn honking again)
Laura says,
“HELLO, WHO'S CALLING?”
(Feedback on telephone line)
A girl on a phone says,
“SAMANVITHA.”
Laura replies, “SAMANVITHA!
WHAT'S THE PASSWORD
FOR THE FORT TODAY?”
Samanvitha answers, “DAFFODIL?”
Laura replies, “DAFFODIL, YES!
WHICH IS TOTALLY
A SIGN OF SPRING.
SAMANVITHA, YOU ARE GOING
IN THE SKY!”
Samanvitha appears on a screen
in the sky.
Laura asks, “HEY, SAMANVITHA!
HOW ARE YOU?”
Samanvitha answers, “GOOD.”
Laura adds,
“GOOD! WELCOME TO THE FORT
FOR SIGNS OF SPRING DAY.
I AM SO EXCITED.
HOW ARE YOU FEELING
ABOUT SPRING?”
Samanvitha replies, “EXCITED.”
Laura says, “EXCITED, YES!
OKAY, WHAT--
WHAT ARE SOME
OF YOUR FAVOURITE PARTS
ABOUT SPRING?”
Samanvitha responds,
“THE FLOWERS.”
Laura replies, “THE FLOWERS!
OKAY, SAMANVITHA,
I HAVE TO SAY,
THAT IS ALSO, I THINK,
MY FAVOURITE PART-
THE BEAUTIFUL COLOURS,
THE BEAUTIFUL SMELLS.
UM, OKAY.
SAMANVITHA,
CHECK IT OUT.
CAN YOU SPOT
ANY SIGNS OF SPRING
IN THE TREE FORT TODAY?”
IS THERE ANYTHING
YOU SEE?”
Samanvitha answers,
“A BUCKET OF ROSES?”
Laura says, “YES!
A BUCKET OF--
OF ROSES, YES!
AND WE'VE GOT TULIPS.
SAMANVITHA, AMAZING!
WE'VE ALSO GOT
SOME BIRDS
AND OF COURSE,
OUR CHERRY BLOSSOM TREES ARE--
OH! CHECK IT OUT!”
A raccoon with purple hair appears.
(Chittering)
Laura continues,
“UM, HEY, PO!
WE'VE APPARENTLY GOT
A SPECIAL GUEST,
PO TODAY.
UH, WHAT'S THAT?”
(Chittering)
Laura responds, “OH. YEAH!
RACCOONS,
THEY TOTALLY HIDE OUT
IN THEIR DENS
THROUGHOUT WINTER
AND THEN THEY START
TO COME OUT
WHEN THE WEATHER'S
GETTING WARM.
AND-- WHAT'S THAT?
OH!
SAMANVITHA,
HE'S SAYING
THAT PO IS ACTUALLY
A SIGN OF SPRING!
RACCOONS ARE
A SIGN OF SPRING.
PRETTY COOL!”
(Squeaking)
Laura asks, “WHAT'S THAT?
NO, WE DON'T WANT
ANY GARBAGE.
NO.
OKAY, GOODBYE, PO.
SEE YA LATER!
OKAY. SAMANVITHA,
WILL YOU HELP ME OUT
WITH SOME
CUTE TIME OOT VIDEOS?”
Samanvitha answers, “YES.”
Laura replies, “YES! OKAY.
LET'S CHECK IT OUT.
HERE'S THE CHAMPION.”
Text reads, “Champion”
Laura adds, “OKAY, SO THIS
IS A SKATEBOARDING DOG.
UM, IT'S PRETTY
GOOD AT IT.
SAMANVITHA,
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS?”
Samanvitha responds, “I THINK
IT'S REALLY CUTE.”
Laura replies, “IT'S CUTE?
WHAT WOULD YOU RATE IT
OUT OF TEN?”
Samanvitha says, “UM,
7.5 OUT OF 10.”
Laura replies, “7.5, PRETTY GOOD.
LET'S SEE
HOW IT DOES
UP AGAINST
THE CHALLENGER.”
Text reads, “Challenger”
(Gasping)
Laura continues, “I LOVE THESE!
THESE ARE BABY FOXES
AND THEY SEEM TO BE PLAYING
IN A MEADOW FOR SPRING.
I LOVE THIS ONE.
SAMANVITHA,
WHAT WOULD YOU RATE THIS ON?”
Samanvitha replies,
“I WOULD RATE THIS
A 10 OUT OF 10.”
Laura says, “10 OUT OF 10!
YES!
THE BABY FOXES ARE
THE WINNERS FOR SPRING.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR HANGING OUT
IN THE FORT TODAY,
SAMANVITHA.
I HOPE YOU CALL
BACK AGAIN SOON!
BYE.”
Samanvitha replies, “BYE!”
Laura continues, “OH, THOSE BABY FOXES
WERE SO CUTE!
BUT I WONDER HOW MONICA IS DOING
ON HER SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT.
MONICA!”
A video of Monica appears in the sky.
She says, “LAURA, I FOUND
SOMETHING INCREDIBLE.
WHAT DID YOU FIND?!
DO YOU WANNA SEE
WHAT IT IS?”
Laura replies,
“YES, SHOW ME PLEASE!”
Monica responds,
“OKAY, CHECK IT OUT.
I HAVE, I THINK,
LILIES OF THE VALLEY--”
Laura says, “WHOA!”
Monica continues,
“--BUT THEY'RE THIS NICE,
BEAUTIFUL WHITE FLOWERS.
LOOK AT THEM.
THEY'RE SPROUTING!
THEY'RE ONE
OF THE FIRST FLOWERS
THAT I'VE SEEN SPROUTED SO FAR
ON MY SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT.”
Laura replies, “OKAY, I HAVE TO SAY,
I ALSO SAW SOME SOME FLOWERS
SPROUTING THIS MORNING
AND IT GOT ME SO EXCITED,
JUST THE LITTLE GREEN SPROUTS
POPPING UP.
THAT IS SO AWESOME.
WAY TO GO, MONICA!
HAVE YOU FOUND
ANYTHING ELSE?”
Monica answers,
“WELL, THERE'S
LOTS OF SQUIRRELS
AND I'M TRYING
TO GET THEM TO--
EAT SOME
OF THESE PEANUTS.
BUT WE'LL SEE.
MAYBE WHEN WE COME BACK
I'LL HAVE ONE.”
Laura replies,
“OKAY, WELL I'M GONNA
HOLD YOU TO IT.
LIKE I SAID,
YOU ONLY HAVE 15 MINUTES
TO FIND EVERYTHING
ON THE LIST.
UM, BUT
TO HELP YOU OUT,
I THOUGHT WE COULD LEARN
A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT SPRING.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?”
Monica responds, “SOUNDS GREAT.”
Laura says, “OKAY.
LET'S CHECK THIS OUT.”
A girl smells a flower.
A male narrator says,
“MMM, SMELL THAT FRESH AIR.
FEEL THAT SUNSHINE
ON YOUR FACE
AND THAT BREEZE
ON YOUR HANDS!
STOP AND LISTEN
TO THOSE BIRDS SINGING.
SPRINGTIME IS HERE,
TVOKIDS!
SEE YA LATER, WINTER.
IT'S TIME TO GET OUTSIDE
AND HAVE SOME FUN.
IT'S TIME TO PUT ON
YOUR RAIN BOOTS
AND SPLASH
IN SOME PUDDLES.
IT'S TIME FOR A GOOD,
OLD-FASHIONED
SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT.”
Text on a chalkboard outside reads,
“Scavenger hunt starts here”.
The narrator adds,
“NOT SURE WHAT TO LOOK FOR
ON YOUR SPRING SCAVENGER HUNT?
IF YOU SPOT A BIRD'S NEST
OR A ROBIN FLYING,
THAT'S A SIGN OF SPRING.
GREEN LEAVES AND GREEN GRASS
ARE GOOD SIGNS TOO.
AND SO ARE PINECONES!
DO YOU SEE ANY PLANTS
POKING THROUGH THE SOIL?
OR HOW ABOUT
SOME SPRING FLOWERS?
DAFFODILS, TULIPS,
HYACINTHS AND CROCUSES ARE ALL
SIGNS THAT SPRING IS HERE!
TREE BUDS,
INSECTS,
WORMS,
SPRING, SPRING, SPRING!
SQUIRRELS AND CHIPMUNKS ARE
RUNNING AROUND FOR A REASON.
SPRING IS FINALLY HERE.
WOOHOO!”
Laura says, “HEY, TVOKIDS.
WELCOME BACK.
I'M SO EXCITED
TO WELCOME OUR NEXT GUEST.
GIVE IT UP FOR J'NET!
J'NET IS THE INDIGENOUS OUTREACH
AND LEARNING COORDINATOR
AT THE ROM!
HEY, J'NET!”
J’net replies, “HELLO,
THANKS FOR INVITING ME.”
Laura replies, “THANKS FOR BEING
HERE TODAY.
OKAY,
LET'S START OFF.
TELL ME AND THE TVOKIDS
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE
INDIGENOUS VOICES SERIES
THAT HAPPENS
AT THE ROM.”
J’net says, “EXCELLENT.
THE INDIGENOUS
VOICES SERIES
IS A FREE ONLINE
EDUCATION WEBINAR
FOR GRADE--
KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 12.
IF YOU VISIT
OUR WEBSITE
AND LOOK AT ROM AT HOME,
YOU CAN REGISTER FOR FREE.
A WHOLE BUNCH
OF DIFFERENT TOPICS,
SOME BRAVE TOPICS.
ALL OF THEM INCLUDE A LITTLE
BIT OF ART IN SOME WAY.
SO, THERE'S A RESIDENTIAL
SCHOOL TOPIC COMING UP
AND THERE'S ALSO SOME GRASS
DANCE AND POW WOW DANCE,
AND EVEN AN INUIT
DRUM DANCING WORKSHOP.
THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT
TWO SPIRIT IDENTITY
AND ALSO SOMETHING ABOUT
GENOCIDE AWARENESS MONTH.
SO, WE COVER
A BIT OF EVERYTHING
FOR ALL GRADES.”
Laura states, “THAT IS INCREDIBLE.
SOUNDS LIKE THERE'S SO MUCH
TO LEARN THERE, J'NET.
SO AWESOME.
UM, NOW WHAT CAN WE
LEARN ABOUT SPRING?”
J’net replies, “WELL, I'M EXCITED
TO BE INVITED TODAY.
I THOUGHT I WOULD
SHARE A STORY
THAT COMES FROM
MY NUU-CHAH-NULTH HOMELANDS
WHICH IS MORE THAN
4,500 KILOMETRES AWAY.
SOME OF OUR VIEWERS MIGHT
KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE
TO LIVE FAR AWAY
FROM HOME.
WELL, SO DO I.
AND IN MY HOMELANDS,
INSTEAD OF SAYING
THE WORD "CHIEF"--
I'M A NUU-CHAH-NULTH
PERSON--
WE SAY THE WORD
"HA'WIIH",
WHICH IS
"CARETAKER OF AN AREA",
OF SOME LAND.
AND THERE WAS
A LONG TIME AGO
WHEN A HA'WIIH
HAD A YOUNG BOY
WHO WAS 12, TURNING 13,
COMING OF AGE,
AND THAT BOY WAS GONNA
HAVE A CEREMONY
TO HAVE A-- UM,
A VERY PRIVATE CEREMONY
COMING OF AGE
WHERE HE WOULD SIT
AROUND A SACRED FIRE,
AND IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE
FOR ONLY FOUR NIGHTS.
AND THIS HA'WIIH,
THIS LEADER,
WAS SO EXCITED TO SHOW OFF
HIS BOY COMING OF AGE,
HE INVITED GUESTS FROM HERE,
THERE, AND EVERYWHERE.
AND PEOPLE FEASTED
AND WAITED
WHILE THIS BOY SAT WITH THE FIRE
ON HIS VISION QUEST.
AND AFTER THE END
OF HIS FOUR DAYS
HE DIDN'T
HAVE A SONG.
WHICH IS OKAY, 'CAUSE SOMETIMES
YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET A SONG.
BUT HIS FATHER WAS FEELING
REALLY PRIDEFUL
AND WANTED HIS BOY
TO GET A SONG,
SO HE MADE HIM
STAY OUT THERE LONGER.
AND SOME PEOPLE,
INCLUDING HIS MOTHER,
WERE VERY UPSET.
"NO, NO, NO, YOU'RE ONLY
SUPPOSED TO STAY
"FOR FOUR DAYS,
NOT ANY LONGER."
AFTER FIVE DAYS,
GUESTS STARTED TO LEAVE.
SIX DAYS, OH,
THE WORD GOT OUT
THAT THIS WAS
VERY WRONG.
SEVEN, EIGHT DAYS.
THE FATHER WENT OUT
ALL BY HIMSELF
'CAUSE ALL THE GUESTS
HAD LEFT.
AND WHEN THE FATHER
WENT OUT THERE,
HE COULDN'T
FIND THE BOY,
BUT HE DID FIND
THIS RED-CHESTED BIRD
THAT WE ALL NOW KNOW
AS A ROBIN.
AND THIS BIRD WHIPPED
IN AND AROUND THE LEADER
AND LANDED ON A BRANCH
AND SAID,
"FATHER, IT'S ME.
"THE CREATOR
TOOK PITY ON ME
"AND TURNED ME
INTO THIS ROBIN
"TO REMIND YOU THAT THESE
CEREMONIES FOR SPRING
"ONLY HAPPEN ONCE
THE ROBIN HAS ARRIVED."
J’net adds,
“AND SO, THAT'S A REALLY GOOD
LESSON IN STAYING HUMBLE,
SO THAT THIS--
THIS FATHER
WHO WANTED TO BE
REALLY PROUD OF HIS SON
COULD BE PROUD OF HIS SON
EVEN WITHOUT A SONG.
YOU KNOW?”
Laura replies, “ABSOLUTELY.
YEAH!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STORY.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING
THAT WITH US, J'NET.”
J’net says, “THANKS!”
Laura continues, “AMAZING.
I'VE GOT A CRAFT HERE
THAT I THINK YOU'RE GONNA
ACTUALLY SHOW ME HOW TO DO,
SO LET'S
TAKE A LOOK AT IT.
UM, I THINK YOU'VE GOT
ONE FINISHED, RIGHT?”
J’net replies, “EXACTLY RIGHT.
I HAVE ONE FINISHED,
AND THIS IS WHAT WE'RE--
WE'RE GONNA DO-- A CIRCLE
IN THE MIDDLE OF A PAGE
IS GONNA BE A REALLY
GREAT PLACE TO START.
AND I JUST WANTED TO SHOW
SUPER, SUPER QUICK
THAT WHEN I WAS GETTING READY
FOR YOUR EPISODE,
I HAD SO MUCH FUN,
I WENT OUT OF MY WAY
TO PUT AN EXTRA BIT
OF SPARKLE AND BLING ON.”
J’net holds a painting of a tree. The
tree is separated into four sections.
Each of the four sections of the tree
are drawn in a different season.
Laura says, “WHAT?!
LOOK AT
ALL THAT GLITTER!
IT LOOKS AMAZING,
J'NET!”
J’net adds, “FOR SURE,
THERE'S NO ARM TWIST
THAT THE STUDENTS
OR ANYONE TUNING IN
HAS TO HAVE THE SPARKLE.”
(Chuckling)
J’net continues, “BUT I LEARNED
A HARD LESSON.
I WOULD PUT IT
ON CARD STOCK NEXT TIME
BECAUSE IT DRIED
FUNNY.
BUT IF YOU START
WITH A CIRCLE--
I HAPPEN TO HAVE
A COMPASS.
I'M NOT SURE
WHAT YOU HAVE THERE,
BUT WE COULD LOOK
AT YOUR SCREEN.”
Laura replies, “I'VE GOT MY CIRCLE
ALREADY DRAWN OUT,
AND I'VE SPLIT IT
INTO FOUR PIECES.”
J’net says, “EXCELLENT.
SO--”
I'LL SHOW THE STUDENTS
HOW I DID THAT.
I FOLDED MY PAPER
IN HALF,
AND THEN I FOLDED
IN HALF TO THE EDGE.
AND THEN YOU'LL SEE
THAT WE HAVE FOUR CIR--
AND THEN WE PUT FOUR LINES
IN THE MIDDLE, YEAH?”
Laura adds, “YES, PERFECT.
SO, ONCE I GOT
THESE LINES--
SO I DRAW A TREE,
RIGHT?
AND I MAKE THE BRANCHES
HIT ALL THE QUADRANTS?”
J’net says, “EXACTLY.
SO, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE
SUPER-DUPER FANCY.
YOU COULD ADD
MORE BRANCHES LATER
OR SMALLER BRANCHES
OFF OF IT,
BUT JUST AS LONG AS THEY
ALL MEET AT THE EDGE.”
Laura replies, “AMAZING.
OKAY.”
J’net continues, “AND THEN
IN EACH SECTION--
LIKE,
THE FIRST SECTION,
WE'RE ALL ABOUT BLOSSOMS
RIGHT NOW, AREN'T WE?
SO WE WOULD DRAW--
I PUT SMALL LEAVES,
'CAUSE ALL THE LEAVES AT
THIS TIME OF YEAR ARE SMALL,
WITH A WHOLE BUNCH
OF BLOSSOMS.”
Laura adds, “SO, I'M ADDING SOME OF
MY PINK BLOSSOMS AS WELL.
SO, TVOKIDS,
EACH QUADRANT IS GOING
TO BE A DIFFERENT SEASON.
SO, THIS IS
AN AWESOME CRAFT
THAT IS A PERFECT THING
TO DO AT SPRING,
BECAUSE SPRING IS
THE FIRST QUADRANT, RIGHT?”
J’net adds, “EXACTLY.”
Laura continues, “AWESOME.
OOH! OKAY.
SO, NOW I'M ADDING
SOME OF MY GREEN LEAVES
TO MY SUMMER QUADRANT.”
J’net says, “EXACTLY.
AND THEN IN THE FALL
OR AUTUMN,
YOU WANNA ADD FRUIT--”
(Gasping)
J’net adds,
“--AND YOU WANNA ADD COLOURFUL
FALL-COLOURED LEAVES,
LIKE ORANGE--”
Laura says, “I DIDN'T EVEN
THINK OF FRUIT!
THAT'S SUCH A GOOD IDEA.”
J’net says, “--AND YELLOW.
IT COULD BE-- IT COULD BE
FRUIT LIKE AN APPLE
OR FRUIT LIKE A PEAR.
AND I WANTED TO SHOW
THAT FOR WINTER,
YOU DON'T HAVE
TO DO ANYTHING
BUT ONE OF THE THINGS
I DID WAS I LEFT
A LITTLE BIT OF BLUE
OFF THE TIP OF THE BRANCH
TO MAKE IT FAKE LIKE SNOW.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN
SEE THAT UP CLOSE AT ALL,
BUT SEE HOW I COLOURED
THE BACKGROUND BLUE?
AND JUST OVER THE BRANCH
I LEFT THAT LITTLE PATCH WHITE
JUST ABOVE IT,
TO PRETEND THAT THAT
WAS ACTUALLY SNOW
ON THE TOP
OF THE BRANCH.
TRYING TO BE--”
(Unclear)
J’net continues,
“FOR FALL, YOU CAN SEE
I EVEN HAD LEAVES
FALLING ON THE GROUND
BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS
AT THE FALL.”
Laura says, “ABSOLUTELY.
OKAY, THIS IS
SO MUCH FUN, J'NET.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
FOR JOINING US.
I GONNA KEEP WORKING
ON MY TREE.
AND TVOKIDS, REMEMBER,
YOU CAN CHECK OUT
THE INDIGENOUS VOICES
SERIES AT THE ROM.
THANKS, J'NET!”
J’net replies, “THANK YOU, BUH-BYE!”
Laura responds, “BYE!”
(Applause)
Monica appears on the screen. She
uses binoculars as she looks up.
Laura says, “OKAY. OH, MONICA!
HOW'S IT GOING?
DID YOU FIND
ANYTHING ELSE?”
Monica answers, “IT'S AMAZING.
I FOUND ALMOST EVERYTHING
ON THIS LIST.
I SEE BIRD NESTS,
BIRDS SINGING,
I CAN SEE--
THERE WERE PUDDLES
AND THERE'S SOME ANIMAL
PRINTS IN THE GROUND.
THERE'S ACTUALLY
SOME LITTLE FLOWERS
PUSHING OUT OF THE GROUND
RIGHT HERE!
THEY MIGHT BE DAFFODILS.
I CAN'T BE SURE.”
Laura replies, “WHAT?!
HEY, "DAFFODIL" IS
THE PASSWORD FOR TODAY,
SO THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.
MONICA,
I HAVE TO SAY,
I'M REALLY IMPRESSED
AT HOW MANY THINGS
YOU FOUND SO FAR!”
Monica states,
“THIS HAS BEEN SO MUCH FUN.
OH! I FOUND A PINECONE.
THAT'S THE SECOND-LAST
THING ON MY LIST.
THERE'S ONE LAST THING.
OH!
I SEE IT OVER THERE.
I THINK IT'S A CHIPMUNK.
ALL RIGHT,
WISH ME LUCK, TVOKIDS.”
Laura says, “OKAY, GOOD LUCK!
BYE-BYE, MONICA.
WOW! SHE CAN RUN--”
(Laughing)
Laura continues, “--REALLY FAST!
THAT WAS VERY, VERY FAST.
TVOKIDS, CHECK IT OUT.
MONICA IS OUT THERE TODAY.
SHE'S FINDING
SIGNS OF SPRING.
WE'VE GOT SIGNS OF SPRING
IN THE FORT,
AND YOU CAN HEAD OUTSIDE
AND LOOK FOR SOME SIGNS
OF SPRING OF YOUR OWN
AND THEN REMEMBER
TO SEND THEM IN TO US
AT TVOKIDS.COM.
I'M GONNA KEEP WORKING
ON THIS CRAFT.
SEE YOU LATER!”
Text reads, “That TVO Kids Show”
Andrea says, “THANK YOU, EVERYONE,
FOR JOINING ME TODAY
ON TVO'S POWER HOUR OF LEARNING.
I'M TEACHER ANDREA AND I LOOK
FORWARD TO SEEING YOU NEXT TIME.
BYE FOR NOW!”
Text reads, “TVO would like to thank all the

at they continue to teach the children of Ontario
from their homes.”
