An animated sun shines brightly as a plane flies through the sky. An owl sits on a tree branch beside host Mandisa, who waves. Mandisa has black hair held back by a headband and wears denim overalls over a peach t-shirt.
An animated ladybug lands on a flower beside Mandisa. A bus drives down a street as Mandisa walks down a path. Mandisa wears a fox hand puppet crafted out of a paper bag and holds a cardboard robot. Mandisa smiles.
A title reads, Curious Crafting.
Mandisa sits at a table in a playroom. She wears a green headband and denim overalls over a peach shirt. Two children run to the tale and join her. One has long brown curly hair and the other has short red curly hair.
Both children say, LET'S MAKE A CRAFT.
Mandisa says, YES, LET'S.
Mandisa holds a plastic bottle.
She says, I HAVE THIS WATER BOTTLE THAT WE
CAN REUSE,
BUT WHAT SHOULD WE MAKE?
An airplane craft lowers beside Mandisa.
Both children say, AIRPLANE.
Mandisa holds the airplane craft.
She says, A WATER BOTTLE AIRPLANE.
DO YOU WANT TO MAKE
A WATER BOTTLE AIRPLANE
OF YOUR OWN?
Both children say, YEAH.
Mandisa says, OK, LET'S GO.
Mandisa and the children leave the table. The children collect craft supplies.
Mandisa narrates, WE'RE GOING TO NEED A BOTTLE
OF GLUE.
A GLUE STICK
AND A LARGE SINGLE HOLE PUNCH,
EMPTY WATER BOTTLES.
AND CONSTRUCTION PAPER.
Mandisa sits at the table with the children and their crafting supplies.
Mandisa says, OK, WE HAVE ALL OUR SUPPLIES,
NOW, WHAT CAN WE USE TO MAKE THE
BODY OF OUR AIRPLANE?
Both children say, WATER BOTTLES.
Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT.
Each of the children grab an empty water bottle.
Mandisa says, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE SOME
WHITE PAPER
AND WE'RE GOING TO WRAP THE
PAPER AROUND OUR WATER BOTTLE
AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO
TAPE IT DOWN.
Mandisa helps the long haired child tape down white paper wrapped around their plastic bottle.
Mandisa says, NOW, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THESE
LITTLE BLUE THINGS ARE?
Mandisa points to blue tubes made out of construction paper on either side of the airplane craft.
The long haired child says, THE JETS.
Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT THE JETS.
YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE SOME BLUE
CONSTRUCTION PAPER…
Mandisa hands the long haired child a piece of blue construction paper.
Mandisa says, …ROLL IT AROUND TO MAKE
A TUBE
AND THAT WILL BECOME
YOUR ENGINE.
The children roll their pieces of construction paper to make two engines.
The long haired child says, I MADE THE TUBES.
The curly haired child looks through two tubes like binoculars. They look at Mandisa through the tubes.
Mandisa says, ARE YOU MAKING BINOCULARS?
OK, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE THOSE
ENGINES
AND WE'RE GOING TO TAPE THEM TO
THE SIDE OF OUR AIRPLANE.
The children tape their tubes to their bottles.
Mandisa says, OK.
WHAT DOES AN AIRPLANE NEED
TO FLY?
The long haired child says, WINGS!
Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT.
I'M GOING TO GIVE ME TWO WINGS
THAT YOU CAN PUT ON EITHER SIDE
OF YOUR AIRPLANE.
The children glue yellow construction paper cut outs to their airplane crafts.
Mandisa says, LET'S GLUE ON THE TAIL TO THE
BACK OF OUR PLANE.
The children glue blue paper cut outs to their airplanes.
Mandisa says, OK.
WHAT DO WE NEED NEXT?
She spins the propeller on her plane.
The long haired child says, OUR PROPELLERS.
Mandisa says, I HAVE SOME PROPELLERS ALREADY
CUT OUT FROM
GREEN CONSTRUCTION PAPER, A
CIRCLE AND TWO BLADES.
The children collect the cut outs from Mandisa. They glue the pieces together.
Mandisa says, YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE BOTTLE
CAP FIRST.
IF YOU WANNA TAKE THAT OFF.
The long haired child removes the bottle cap as Mandisa holds the bottle.
Mandisa says, ALL RIGHT, AND THEN YOU CAN PUT
ON YOUR PROPELLER.
The long haired child slides their propeller onto the neck of the bottle.
Mandisa says, AND THEN PUT YOUR LID ON.
The children twist the caps of their water bottles back on.
Mandisa says, EXCELLENT, WOO HOO.
The long haired child spins their airplane craft’s propeller.
Mandisa says, NOW WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THE...
The long haired child says, …WINDOWS.
Mandisa says, THE WINDOWS.
I HAVE SOME BLACK CONSTRUCTION
PAPER HERE.
Mandisa places black construction paper rectangular cut outs in front of each of the children.
Mandisa says, AND THEN I HAVE A LEATHER PUNCH
THAT WE'RE GOING TO USE, TO
CREATE PERFECT LITTLE CIRCLES.
Mandisa helps the children punch out circles from the black paper with the leather punch. The children add the circles to their airplanes.
Mandisa says, THE LAST THING WE'LL DO IS
THE...
The long haired child says, …NOSE.
Mandisa says, THAT'S RIGHT, WE'RE GOING TO
MAKE ANOTHER LITTLE CIRCLE.
The curly haired child punches a hole out of red paper with the leather punch. The long haired child glues a red circle to the cap of their bottle. They hold up their finished airplane craft. The curly haired child presses their red circle onto the cap of their bottle.
Mandisa says, WOW, YOUR WATER BOTTLE AIRPLANES
LOOK AMAZING!
LET'S SHOW EACH OTHER.
Mandisa and the children play with their airplanes.
(Whistles)
Mandisa says, LET'S MAKE THEM FLY.
