Singing, WELCOME TO MY BRILLIANT SHOW!

(Music playing)

Tom lies on a couch in his living room, reading a comic book.

Tom says, JUST FOR A CHANGE, I'M READY FOR SCHOOL EARLY! JUST WAITING FOR DEREK TO CALL.

Frank, Tom’s father, walks in, carrying a full laundry basket.

Frank says, TOM, WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE? YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE!

Tom says, I CAN'T BE LATE. DEREK HASN'T CALLED YET.

Frank says, I SAW HIM WALK PAST THE HOUSE AGES AGO!

Tom says, OH, NO, I FORGOT!

(Gasps)

Tom says, IT'S SPORTS DAY! DEREK WENT IN EARLY TO HELP SET UP.

Tom runs along a sidewalk.

(Panting)

Tom says, IT'S SPORTS DAY! I NEED SPORTS KIT!

Tom runs back.

Frank hangs the laundry on a round shaped clothesline in the yard.

(Gasps for breath)

Tom runs over and bends over with his hands on his knees.

Tom gasps, SPORT... SPORTS K-KIT.

Frank asks, WHAT DO YOU NEED?

Tom cries, EVERYTHING!

Frank says, OK!

Frank spins the clothesline. He grabs clothes off of it and drops them in Tom’s backpack.

Frank shouts, GO!

Tom says, THANKS, DAD!

Tom runs.

Frank calls, GOOD LUCK, SON!

Tom’s mother, Rita, holds a pair of shoes out of the back door.

Rita says, TRAINERS.

Tom grabs them as he runs by.

Tom says, THANKS, MUM!

Rita calls, GOOD LUCK!

Tom runs along the sidewalk again.

Tom says, IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT NOT TO FORGET YOUR P.E. KIT. IF YOU DO, MR FULLERMAN MAKES YOU WEAR SOMETHING FROM THE...

(Flies buzz, thunderclap)

Flies hover above a battered cardboard box in a school office.

Tom says, …SPARE KIT BOX.

A green mist rises from the box.

(Dramatic music)

(Children cheer)

Tom drops into his chair in his classroom.

(Tom gasps for breath)

Marvin says, HA, YOU'RE LATE!

Tom says, I'M NOT, BUT I'M TOO TIRED TO ARGUE.

Mr. Fullerman says, OK, EVERYONE, GET READY FOR SPORTS DAY, PLEASE. QUICK AS YOU CAN.

Tom reaches into his backpack. He pulls out a pair of large underpants.

(Gasps)

(Dramatic sting)

(Gasps)

Amy grins.

Amy asks, ARE YOU WEARING THOSE?

(Tom chuckles nervously)

(Music playing)

Tom remembers Frank grabbing clothes off the clothesline.

Marcus says, HA! TOM BROUGHT HIS DAD'S PANTS IN INSTEAD OF HIS P.E. SHORTS! HA-HA-HA!

Mr. Fullerman says, JUST GO TO THE OFFICE AND BORROW SOMETHING FROM THE... SPARE KIT BOX.

(Dramatic music)

(Amy gasps)

(Marcus laughs)

Tom cries, NOT THE... SPARE KIT BOX!

(Dramatic music)

(Flies buzz)

Tom says, OH, BOY! I THINK IT'S TIME TO... DRAW IT!

Text reads: Draw it.

(Music playing)

Liz, a live-action adult, sits at a table in front of a purple piece of paper. She has long reddish-brown hair and wears a short-sleeved red blouse.

Liz says, HI. LET'S SEE WHAT'S IN THE DOODLE BOX.

Liz sets a decorated box on the table.

Tom says, IT'S THE DOODLE BOX. WONDER WHAT IT'S GOING TO BE.

Liz takes a canvas bag out of the box.

Liz says, IT'S A DRAWSTRING BAG - KIND OF THING YOU PUT YOUR P.E. KIT IN. I THINK I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS.

Tom says, OH, I SEE!

Liz says, SO, WHAT YOU'RE GONNA NEED FOR THIS IS SOME FABRIC PENS, OR YOU CAN USE SOME PERMANENT MARKERS. IF YOU WANT TO WASH YOUR DRAWSTRING BAG, THEN I'D USE FABRIC PENS. SO, I'M GONNA USE PERMANENT MARKERS.

Tom says, GOT IT! THANKS, LIZ.

Liz says, SO, THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO DO IS WORK OUT WHAT YOUR DESIGN'S GOING TO BE. SO I'VE DONE MY DESIGN ON A PIECE OF CARD. I'VE LEFT A SPACE IN THE MIDDLE WHERE YOU CAN WRITE YOUR NAME, AND I'VE DONE A MONSTER AND A NICE BUG PLAYING FOOTBALL.

Tom says, GREAT STUFF!

Liz says, NEXT THING YOU HAVE TO DO, TAKE YOUR DESIGN AND SLIP IT INSIDE THE BAG. SO YOU CAN SEE YOUR DESIGN THROUGH THE BAG, WHICH IS GREAT, COS IT MEANS YOU CAN TRACE YOUR DESIGN, BUT IT ALSO MEANS THAT THE INK WON'T GO THROUGH TO THE BACK. Tom says, GOOD TIP!

Liz says, SO, I'M GOING TO START OFF BY USING A BLACK MARKER, AND I'M JUST GOING TO DO THE OUTLINE. AND THEN LET'S DRAW THE SPACE WHERE YOU CAN WRITE YOUR NAME AFTERWARDS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON'T WANT SOMEONE TO TAKE YOUR BAG.

(Laughs)

Liz draws an arrow and a square on the bag with a black marker.

Liz says, YOU DON'T WANNA GET YOUR P.E. KIT MIXED UP WITH SOMEBODY ELSE'S. ANOTHER GOOD TIP, BUT MAKE SURE YOUR BAG IS NICE AND FLAT AND THAT YOU HAVEN'T GOT TOO MANY WRINKLES, COS IT MAKES IT MUCH HARDER TO DRAW ON. SO, I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW TO DRAW A MONSTER, IF YOU HAVEN'T DRAWN ONE BEFORE.

Tom says, AWESOME!

Liz says, THEY HAVE VERY FUNNY LITTLE KIND OF EARS. IT'S A BIT LIKE DRAWING AN M. THERE'S ONE, AND ANOTHER. AND THIS MONSTER IS WEARING VERY BIG SPORTS SHORTS. AND THEN WE DO ONE BIG EYE AND THEN ONE SMALLER EYE, AND WHAT I CALL A LETTERBOX MOUTH. A FEW HAIRS. THAT'S OUR MONSTER.

Liz draws the monster standing beside the box.

Liz continues, LET'S DO ANOTHER ARROW. OK, I'M GOING TO DRAW A LITTLE BUG. I'M GONNA ADD SOME STARS AS WELL. HERE, ON THERE. GONNA COLOUR THAT ONE IN. OOH, ANOTHER GOOD TIP - BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU'RE DRAWING. IF YOUR FABRIC PENS ARE A BIT WET, OR THEY HAVEN'T QUITE DRIED OUT YET, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUT YOUR HAND OVER THEM. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT SMUDGE IT.

Liz fills in the space around the blank box with lines, stars and arrows.

Liz says, THERE YOU GO. ALL DONE. YOU CAN LEAVE IT IN BLACK AND WHITE IF YOU LIKE, BUT I THINK I'M GONNA ADD SOME COLOUR.

Tom says, I LOVE THIS BIT!

Liz uses a blue marker.

Liz says, LET'S DO A BLUE MONSTER. IT'S MY FAVOURITE BIT. BLUE FEET. DO YOU KNOW, IF YOU DO MAKE A MISTAKE, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. YOU CAN JUST BUILD YOUR MISTAKE INTO YOUR DESIGN. COVER IT WITH A STAR OR JUST ADD A LITTLE EXTRA BIT OF DESIGN ONTO IT, AND NO ONE WILL NOTICE.

(Chuckles)

Liz picks up a red marker.

Liz continues, BIT OF RED. SO, YOU CAN SEE WHY IT'S REALLY USEFUL TO HAVE THE CARD OR THE PAPER INSIDE. IT'S NOT GOING THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE. THAT'S GOOD. THAT'S WHAT WE WANT. WHERE ELSE SHALL I PUT SOME RED? I KNOW, JUST UP HERE.

Liz outlines the box in red.

Liz says, DO THE YELLOW.

She fills in the stars with a yellow marker.

Liz asks, HOW ABOUT SOME BRIGHT GREEN FOR THE BUG?

Tom says, I LOVE THE COLOURS!

Liz compares the bag to the original design.

Liz says, COPIED THE WHOLE DESIGN ONTO THE BAG. AND I SAID YOU COULD LEAVE IT PLAIN BLACK AND WHITE IF YOU WANTED TO. I THINK IT LOOKS REALLY NICE WITH LOTS OF COLOUR ON TOO.

Tom says, WOW, THAT'S COOL!

Liz holds up the bag.

Liz says, SO, THERE YOU GO - THAT'S YOUR VERY OWN DRAWSTRING BAG, ALL DRAWN ON WITH A NICE SPACE THERE LEFT FOR YOUR NAME.

Tom says, AW, THANKS, LIZ. THAT WAS GREAT! WHY DON'T YOU GIVE IT A GO?

(Whistle blows)

The drawings on the bag become animated and move.

(Monster grunts and chuckles)

(Whistle blows twice)

(Music playing)

Singing, WELCOME TO MY BRILLIANT SHOW!

(Dog howling and monster groaning)

Tom walks over to the cardboard box in the school office.

Tom says, SO, I ACCIDENTALLY FORGOT MY SHORTS FOR P.E. THAT MEANS I'VE GOT THREE CHOICES OF SHORTS. THERE'S THE BIG PAIR. YOU'D SPEND YOUR WHOLE TIME TRYING TO STOP THEM FALLING DOWN.

Tom imagines himself running to a finish line while holding up big yellow shorts.

Tom cries, YAY!

He cheers and drops the shorts.

(Tom laughs nervously)

Children shout, OH, NO! OH, TOM!

Tom takes a blue pair of shorts out of the box.

Tom says, THEN THERE'S THE RIPPED PAIR. EVERY TIME THEY GET WORN, THIS LITTLE RIP GETS A BIT BIGGER. SO SOONER OR LATER...

Tom imagines himself doing jumping jacks, then bending over while wearing the blue shorts.

(Shorts tear)

Tom blushes.

(Laughs nervously)

Tom says, AND FINALLY, THERE'S THE TEDDY SHORTS.

Tom pulls out a pair of purple shorts covered in a teddy bear pattern.

(Bear groans)

Tom says, THEY'RE GREAT... IF YOU'RE A BABY OR A TEDDY! NONE OF THEM ARE GOOD, BUT I GUESS, OUT OF THE THREE, THE BIG PAIR'S PROBABLY THE...

Brad says, THANKS! I FORGOT MY SHORTS!

Brad grabs the big yellow shorts.

Tom says, HEY, SO DID I! I WAS GONNA WEAR THEM!

Tom looks at the teddy shorts.

(Pop)

Tom says, DEFINITELY NOT. I'LL JUST HAVE TO BE CAREFUL.

Tom takes the ripped blue shorts.

(Sighs)

Tom sits down at his desk, carrying the shorts.

Tom says, ALL RIGHT.

Marcus says, OH, NO! TOM'S GOT THE TORN SHORTS. WILL THEY SURVIVE SPORTS DAY? I DON'T THINK SO.

Tom says, UGH! HE'S SO ANNOYING. I'LL BE FINE, MARCUS.

Mr. Fullerman says, GET CHANGED, PLEASE, TOM. YOU TOO, MARCUS.

Marcus says, YES, SIR!

Marcus opens a red gym bag.

Marcus gasps, OH, NO! WHERE ARE MY SHORTS?!

Amy says, DON'T WORRY, MARCUS. THERE'S ALWAYS...THE SPARE KIT BOX.

(Thunderclap)

Marcus screams, ARGH!

(Flies buzz)

Tom says, AND LUCKILY FOR YOU, THERE'S ONE PAIR OF SHORTS LEFT. I THINK IT'S TIME FOR... PLAY IT!

Text reads: Play it.

(Music playing)

Three boxes are on a green background.

Tom narrates, UH-OH! YOU FORGOT YOUR SHORTS FOR P.E. TOO! IT'S TIME TO PLAY SPARE KIT, UNLUCKY DIP. YOU'VE GOT TO REMEMBER WHICH SPARE KIT BOX CONTAINS THE ONLY GOOD PAIR OF SHORTS AND AVOID THE MASSIVE SHORTS AND THE MANKY SHORTS.

Blue shorts hover above one box, big yellow shorts above the middle box, and stained shorts above the third.

Tom cries, EURGH! THEY STINK!

Tom continues, TAKE A GOOD LOOK, BECAUSE THEY'RE GONNA GET JUMBLED UP.

The shorts drop into the boxes.

Tom says, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE SPARE KIT BOX WITH THE GOOD SHORTS IN. WATCH CAREFULLY. HERE WE GO!

(Popping)

The boxes float up and switch position.

Tom narrates, WHOA! THIS IS TRICKY. GET IT WRONG, AND YOUR P.E. LESSON COULD BE A DISASTER, JUST LIKE MINE. WHICH ONE IS IT? TIME'S NEARLY UP... NOW, CAN YOU REMEMBER WHICH SPARE KIT BOX HAS THE GOOD SHORTS IN? PICK YOUR BOX. GOT ONE? LET'S SEE WHAT'S INSIDE.

The boxes stop moving. The first box opens.

Tom says, OH, THERE'S THE MASSIVE SHORTS. HOPE YOU DIDN'T MAKE A MASSIVE MISTAKE AND PICK THAT BOX.

The second box opens.

Tom says, THERE'S THE MANKY SHORTS. YOU SHOULD'VE BEEN ABLE TO SMELL THEM A MILE OFF! SO THAT MEANS –

The third box opens.

Tom says, HA-HA! - THE LAST BOX HAS THE GOOD SHORTS! PHEW! DID YOU PICK THE RIGHT SPARE KIT BOX?

(Music playing)

Singing, WELCOME TO MY BRILLIANT SHOW!

(Howling and groaning)

Mr. Fullerman stands outside, holding a camera.

Mr. Fullerman says, ALL RIGHT, EVERYONE, SPORTS DAY PHOTO FOR THE NEWSLETTER. COME ON, CHOP CHOP. WE HAVEN'T GOT ALL DAY. ALL RIGHT, LACES ALL DONE. AT LEAST NONE OF US FORGOT OUR SHIRTS.

Tom wears the blue ripped shorts, Marcus wears the teddy shorts and Brad holds up the large yellow shorts. They stand in a line with the other students.

Mr. Fullerman says, THAT'S RIGHT, STAND UP STRAIGHT.

Further down the line, Indrani wears a giant yellow shirt.

Indrani says, OH, I’M SO EMBARRASSED!

Mr. Fullerman calls, CHEESE!

(Camera shutter clicks)

The camera flashes.
