Children singing, I LIKE WAFERS, THEY’RE THE BEST!

All singing, I’M TOM GATES, THAT’S MY NAME. SO JOIN IN, WITH MY FAVOURITE GAMES. GET READY, BECAUSE HERE WE GO. WELCOME TO MY BRILLIANT SHOW!

A title reads: The Brilliant World of Tom Gates. Created by Liz Pichon

Tom says, IN THIS BRILLIANT SHOW... ME AND DEREK MAKE A BIG SPLASH. FIND OUT WHAT'S IN THE DOODLE BOX. AND ROCK OUT TO WASHING THE CAR.

Singing, WELCOME TO MY BRILLIANT SHOW!

A red car is parked in the driveway of a house.

(Door creaks)

Derek walks outside, carrying a red bucket. Tom and Rooster, the dog follow him.

Derek says, CAREFUL, ROOSTER!

(Playful growl)

Tom says, HI. TODAY, WE'RE WASHING DEREK'S DAD'S CAR, AND WE'RE GETTING PAID REAL MONEY!

Derek asks, WHY DO YOU THINK MY DAD THOUGHT IT WOULD TAKE SO LONG?

Tom says, OH!

Derek says, OHHH!

Birds are perched all over the car, leaving droppings as they go.

(Birds tweet)

Derek says, THAT'S GONNA TAKE AGES!

Tom says, YEAH, BUT JUST THINK OF ALL THE WAFERS WE'LL BE ABLE TO BUY WITH THE MONEY.

(Rooster barks)

Rooster runs around the car and the birds fly off.

Derek says, COME ON, ROOSTER! GOOD DOG, ROOSTER! GOOD BOY!

(Music playing)

Animated objects appear as Tom names them.

(Bubbles popping)

Tom narrates, OK, HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO CLEAN A CAR. A FULL BUCKET OF WARM WATER, A SMALL AMOUNT OF CAR SHAMPOO, A BIG SPONGE...

(Splashing)

Tom continues, AND, BEST OF ALL, A HOSE TO WASH IT ALL OFF AT THE END.

(Water splashing)

(Barking)

Derek attaches a sprayer to the end of the hose.

Tom says, LET'S DO IT!

Rooster paws at the hose and water sprays out.

(Barking)

(Derek laughs)

Derek says, ROOSTER! OH, ROOSTER! ROOSTER, NO PLAYING WITH THE HOSE!

Tom picks up a sponge.

Tom says, OK, HOW HARD CAN THIS BE?

Birds watch from a nearby branch.

(Squawking)

(Soap bubbles popping)

Tom says, IT'S TIME TO... DRAW IT!

Text reads: Draw it.

Tom narrates, IT'S THE DOODLE BOX. I WONDER WHAT IT'S GOING TO BE.

Liz, a live-action adult, sits at a table. She has long reddish-brown hair and wears a yellow top.

Liz says, HI. LET'S SEE WHAT'S IN THE DOODLE BOX.

(Music playing)

Liz picks up a box decorated with Tom’s face and puts it on the table.

Liz says, OK, OPEN IT UP. GOT A PAIR OF RUBBER GLOVES...

Liz holds up yellow dish gloves.

Liz says, AND A PAPER CUP.

Tom says, HOW ABOUT THAT?!

Liz says, LET'S SEE WHAT WE CAN DO WITH THESE, SHALL WE? ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU GET PERMISSION TO DRAW ON ANYTHING. SO, I THINK I'M ONLY GONNA USE ONE OF THEM FOR NOW. PUT ONE ASIDE. I'M GONNA PUT THE PAPER CUP INSIDE THE RUBBER GLOVE, LIKE THIS. PUT YOUR HAND INSIDE...

Liz sticks her hand inside the cup.

Liz continues, AND PULL THE RUBBER GLOVE OVER THE CUP. AND IF YOU PUSH IT IN REALLY... LIKE THAT. LOOK, THERE YOU GO.

Liz stretches the glove over the cup.

Liz says, LOOKS LIKE A REAL HAND! OK, TUCK THAT INSIDE. I'M GOING TO USE A PERMANENT MARKER, SO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET IT ON YOUR FINGERS.

Liz uses the black marker to draw on the palm of the glove.

Liz says, LET'S SEE. LET'S DRAW AN EYE.

Liz draws two eyes.

Liz continues, NOW I'M GONNA DRAW SOME MONSTER TEETH.

Liz draws a rectangle shaped mouth with square teeth. She draws an arm on the glove.

Liz says, LET'S MAKE HIM HOLD A FLOWER.

Tom says, GREAT STUFF!

Liz sets the glove upright on the table.

Liz says, OK. JUST GOING TO PUFF IT UP AGAIN A BIT MORE, SO IT'S GOT SOME AIR INSIDE IT. ALL WE NEED IS A PAIR OF GLASSES.

Liz puts sunglasses over the eyes of the monster.

Liz says, SEE IF THIS WORKS.

(Laughs)

Tom says, AMAZING!

Liz holds up the glove.

Liz says, PERFECT. AND THERE YOU HAVE YOUR VERY OWN GLASSES HOLDER. I KNOW SOMEBODY WHO'D LIKE THIS - DELIA, DEFINITELY.

(Popping)

The glove becomes animated.

(Monster laughs)

Singing, WELCOME TO MY BRILLIANT SHOW!

Birds perch on a tree above the car.

(Squawking)

Leaves drift down to land on the car.

Tom says, WHEW! ME AND DEREK ARE CLEANING HIS DAD'S CAR TO GET SOME POCKET MONEY.

A bird hops across the hood of the car.

(Squawks)

Tom cries, SHOO, SHOO! GO AWAY! SHOO!

(Barking)

Rooster jumps on the cars and chases the bird away, leaving pawprints.

Tom says, OH, NO! ARGH! IT'S LIKE WE HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED!

(Barking)

Rooster picks up the hose in his mouth and sprays water on Tom and Derek.

Derek cries, HEY... NO, NO, NO, ROOSTER!

Tom cries, ROOSTER! ARGH!

Tom says, I THINK IT'S TIME FOR... MAKE IT!

Text reads: Make it.

A bird made out of construction paper sits on a nameplate that reads: TOM.

Tom narrates, LET'S GIVE THOSE CHEEKY BIRDS SOMETHING USEFUL TO DO. IT'S AN AWESOME TOM GATES NAME HOLDER.

(Popping)

Objects appear as Tom names them.

Tom narrates, YOU WILL NEED... TWO PIECES OF COLOURED CARD, SOME PENS FOR DECORATING, SCISSORS...

A tiny monster yells, BE CAREFUL WITH SCISSORS!

A tiny monster pops up, holding a sign that reads: Be careful with scissors!

A striped bug carries a glue stick.

The striped bug asks, AND A GLUE STICK?

Tom says, SORRY! MAYBE NEXT TIME.

The striped bug says, OHHH! ALL RIGHT.

The bug drags the glue stick away.

(Squeaking)

Tom says, GOT ALL THAT?

A green monster holds up a timer.

Tom says, HERE WE GO. LET'S GET MAKING!

(Ticking)

(Alarm bell rings)

Tom narrates, CUT YOUR CARD INTO TWO DIFFERENT-SIZED PIECES, LIKE THIS.

The top quarter is cut off a blue piece of paper.

Tom continues, ON THE BIGGER PIECE, DRAW THE OUTLINE OF A BIRD'S BODY. NOT THE WINGS - THEY COME LATER. CUT IT OUT, FLIP IT OVER AND DRAW THE SAME ON THE OTHER SIDE. ON THE SECOND PIECE OF PAPER, CUT A STRIP OFF ONE SIDE.

An orange paper is cut.

Tom narrates, KEEP THE STRIP AND SAVE THE REST FOR LATER. FOLD THE BOTTOM OF THE STRIP UP, FLIP IT OVER AND REPEAT UNTIL YOU HAVE A FAN, LIKE THIS. CHOP OFF THE LAST BIT THAT'S LEFT OVER. TRIM THE ENDS OF YOUR FAN TO MAKE THEM ROUNDED, THEN UNFOLD IT ALL, LIKE THIS. DRAW A PATTERN ON EACH SECTION AND THEN FOLD IT BACK UP AGAIN.

A black swirling pattern is drawn on the orange paper.

Tom continues, FOLD IT ALL IN HALF TO MAKE A V SHAPE. THIS WILL BE THE WINGS FOR YOUR BIRD. BRING BACK THE BIRD YOU DREW EARLIER AND CUT A SLOT IN THE BACK. MAKE SURE IT'S THE SAME WIDTH AS THE FOLDED WINGS.

(Pop)

A blue strip of paper appears.

Tom narrates, USING THE PIECE OF PAPER YOU SAVED EARLIER, CUT ANOTHER STRIP, THEN FOLD IT IN HALF LENGTHWAYS, LIKE THIS. CUT A SMALL SLIT IN ONE SIDE, STARTING AT THE FOLD, BUT NOT ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CARD. WITH THE FOLD AT THE TOP, WRITE YOUR NAME OR DRAW A PATTERN ON IT.

The name “TOM” appears on the folded blue paper in puffy black letters with a white border.

Tom continues, NOW IT'S TIME TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. STAND THE NAME CARD UP AND SLOT THE BIRD INTO THE SLIT AT THE TOP, THEN SLIDE THE FOLDED WINGS INTO THE SLOT ON THE BIRD WITH THE V SHAPE FACING UP. THIS IS THE BEST BIT. UNFOLD THE WINGS AT THE END SO YOU CAN SEE YOUR LOVELY PATTERN. BEAUTIFUL!

The orange wings of the bird are spread open.

Tom says, AMAZING! I MADE SOME FOR MY FRIENDS, AND AN EXTRA-SPECIAL ONE FOR DELIA.

The name holder for Delia is all in black.

Tom says, TWEET, TWEET!

(Wings flutter)

(Music playing)

Singing, WELCOME TO MY BRILLIANT SHOW!

The red car is sparklingly clean. Tom and Derek smile and bump fists.

(Rooster barks)

Two birds are on the hood of the car.

(Birds squawk)

(Barking continues)

A cat jumps on the car. The bird flies off.

(Cat meows)

The cat tracks pawprints over the car.

(Angry barks)

Rooster jumps on the hood of the car.

(Barking and meowing)

Tom and Derek yell, SHOO! GET OFF! SHOO! GO AWAY!

Derek says, GO AWAY! CLEAR OFF! OH, NO!

He tries to grab Rooster, but the dog chases the cat onto the roof of the car.

Tom cries, GO! GO AWAY!

The dog and cat jump off go the car. Tom grabs for them and falls into a puddle.

Derek says, CAREFUL!

Tom cries, OW!

(Tom sighs)

The birds on the tree shake their heads.

Tom and Derek are covered with water.

Tom says, THIS REALLY ISN'T WORKING OUT.

Derek says, YEAH, WE SHOULD TELL MY DAD.

Tom says, MM-HM.

Tom and Derek walk away.

Derek calls, DAD...

Rooster grabs the hose.

(Barking)

Mr. Fingle sits in the backyard, reading a book while sitting on a lawn chair.

Mr. Fingle cries, WHOA!

He jumps up and starts hanging laundry on a clothesline.

Mr. Fingle says, OH, HELLO, YOU TWO. BEEN A WHILE. MY CAR MUST BE SPARKLING BY NOW!

Derek says, ERM, NOT EXACTLY, DAD.

Tom says, I THINK WE MADE IT WORSE.

Mr. Fingle looks at the car with Derek and Tom. The car is clean.

Tom and Derek say, HUH?!

Mr. Fingle says, GUYS... WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? IT LOOKS GREAT!

(Music playing)

Rooster smiles.

Derek says, BUT...

Mr. Fingle says, NO "BUTS". WELL DONE, GUYS. HERE'S YOUR MONEY. AND A LITTLE BIT EXTRA FOR DOING SUCH A GOOD JOB.

(Music playing)

Mr. Fingle walks away. The boys look at coins in their hands.

Tom says, AMAZING!

Derek asks, WHAT SHALL WE SPEND IT ON, TOM?

Tom says, ERM, CARAMEL WAFERS, OBVIOUSLY!

Derek says, AND AN EXTRA TREAT FOR ROOSTER!

Tom says, OH, YEAH!

(Cat meows)

Rooster runs off.

(Angry barks and meows)

Feathers and leaves fly.

(Cat hisses)

(Barks and hisses continue)

Tom and Derek look horrified. The car is covered again with pawprints and leaves.

Derek says, OH, NO!

Tom says, I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING IF YOU DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING.

Derek says, ME EITHER.

Tom whispers, LET'S GO!

Tom and Derek tiptoe away.

(Rooster barks)

Rooster winks.

(Rock tune plays)

Text reads: Sing it.

Tom plays guitar and Derek play a keyboard.
