(Rhythmic music)

Serena and Emma jump up and down in their kitchen. They pour nuts into a clear glass mixing bowl and then add chicken to a frying pan full of tomatoes.

The title reads, “tvokids presents 5 Ingredient Challenge”.

Serena rests her arms on the kitchen counter. She wears blue overalls over her pink and white striped sweater. Her long dark hair is tied back.

Serena says,
ON TODAY'S
FIVE INGREDIENTS CHALLENGE,
WE ARE GOING TO MAKE
DATE SQUARES.

Ingredients are mixed in a bowl while dates are cut with scissors.

Emma stands next to Serena in front of the refrigerator. She wears a purple t-shirt. Her long dark hair is tied into a ponytail.

Text reads, “Date Squares”.

Emma says,
I LOVE DATES.

Serena adds,
AND I LOVE SQUARES!

Text reads, “5 Ingredient Challenge with Serena and Emma”.

Emma says,
TO MAKE DATE SQUARES,
YOU WILL NEED...
TWO CUPS OF PITTED DATES.

Serena says,
THREE QUARTER CUPS
OF BROWN SUGAR.

Emma says, ONE CUP OF FLOUR.

Serena says, TWO CUPS OF OATS.

Emma says,
AND THREE-QUARTER CUPS
OF BUTTER.

Emma adds,
WE ARE READY FOR
THE FIVE INGREDIENTS CHALLENGE!

Emma walks to the oven and sets a timer.

She says,
LET'S START
BY PREHEATING THE OVEN
TO 375 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT
OR 191 DEGREES CELSIUS.

Serena says,
THEN, WE CUT THE DATES
INTO SMALL PIECES
WITH KITCHEN SCISSORS.

She empties a blue measuring cup full of cut dates into a clear glass bowl on the counter.

Serena says,
ONE AND CUP NUMBER TWO.
TA-DA.

She adds a second cup of dates to the bowl. Serena taps on the bottom of the cup.

Emma pours water into the bowl of dates.

She says,
LET'S ADD A CUP OF WATER
AND MICROWAVE THE DATES
FOR EIGHT MINUTES.

Emma sets the microwave timer.

Later, the microwave beeps.

Text reads, “Ready”.

Emma uses oven mitts to carry the bowl of dates from the microwave to the counter.

Serena says,
IT'S READY!
IT'S NOW TIME TO TAKE THE BOWL
OUT FROM THE MICROWAVE
WITH OVEN MITTS.

Emma says,
IT'S VERY HOT.
IN ANOTHER SMALL
MICROWAVE OVEN SAFE BOWL,
YOU PUT THREE-QUARTER CUPS
OF BUTTER AND WE MELT
THE BUTTER FOR FORTY-FIVE
SECONDS, BUT WATCH OUT,
IT'S HOT, HOT, HOT.

Emma carries a bowl of melted butter from the microwave to the counter with her oven mitts.

Serena says,
IN ANOTHER BOWL,
WE MIX THE FLOUR,
THE BROWN SUGAR
AND THE OATS.
ONE CUP,
THREE-QUARTER CUPS.
AND NOW, THE OATS.
ONE…TWO CUPS.

Serena pours brown sugar and oats into a glass bowl. Emma adds the melted butter to the mixture.

She says,
WE ADD THE MELTED BUTTER
AND THEN WE MIX.

Emma stirs the oat mixture while Serena places a pan on the counter.

Serena says,
I'M GOING TO GRAB
THIS GLASS PAN AND NOW,
WE'RE GONNA PUT A LITTLE BIT
MORE THAN HALF OF THE MIXTURE
ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN
AND PRESS IT DOWN
WITH OUR FINGERS.
MAKE SURE YOU USE
A SQUARE PAN,
BECAUSE IF YOU USE A ROUND ONE,
THEN YOU'LL GET DATE CIRCLES.
STILL GOOD, BUT NOT THE SAME.
NOW,
I'M GONNA PUT THE DATE MIXTURE.

Serena spreads the dates over the flattened oats at the bottom of the pan.

She says,
AND NOW,
WE COVER THE WHOLE THING
WITH THE REMAINING
OF THE OATMEAL MIXTURE
AND PRESS IT DOWN AGAIN.

Emma says,
OFF TO THE OVEN
FOR TWENTY-FIVE TO THIRTY
MINUTES.

She places the date square pan in the oven.

Later, Emma and Serena put their mixing bowls in the sink.

Text reads, “Ready!”.

Serena says, IT'S READY!

Emma carries the date squares from the oven to the counter and places them on a cloth.

Serena says,
IT HAS TO COOL DOWN FIRST.
ONCE IT'S WARM,
THEN WE CAN CUT IT INTO SQUARES
AND THEN WE CAN TASTE IT.
HERE YOU GO.

Serena hands Emma a plate with a large date square on it. Emma and Serena eat the date squares.

They say, HMM!

Serena adds, WE DID IT!

Serena and Emma say,
WHAT A CHALLENGE!

Emma holds up her phone and poses for a selfie.

Emma asks, YOU READY?

Serena answers, YUP!

Emma takes the selfie. Serena stands behind her holding her date square.
