(RHYTHMIC MUSIC)

Serena and Emma jump up and down in their kitchen. They pour nuts into a clear glass mixing bowl and then add chicken to a frying pan full of tomatoes.

The title reads, ?tvokids presents 5 Ingredients Challenge?.

Serena stands in front of the kitchen counter. She wears a colourful apron over a white long-sleeved shirt. Her long dark hair is pulled back.

Serena says, ON TODAY'S
FIVE INGREDIENTS CHALLENGE,
CHEF MARLOW IS GOING TO TEACH US
SOME TIPS AND TRICKS ON...

Serena drums the counter and points to Chef Marlow.

Marlow says, LOOKING SHARP!

Serena says, IN THE KITCHEN, OF COURSE.

Chef Marlow waves. He wears a chef's jacket with a brown apron over top. He has medium-length brown hair and a neatly trimmed beard.

Text reads, ?Looking Sharp!?

Marlow says, HERE ARE MY THREE RULES
ON HOW TO STAY SHARP
WHILE USING
SHARP KITCHEN TOOLS.

Serena says, RULE NUMBER 1:
SET YOURSELF UP
FOR A SUCCESS.

Marlow says, BEFORE YOU START CHOPPING,
MAKE SURE YOUR WORK STATION
IS COMFORTABLE AND SAFE.
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE
AN L-SHAPE
WITH YOUR ARMS WHEN YOU PLACE
YOUR HANDS ON THE COUNTER.
YEAH, LIKE SO!
IF THE COUNTER IS TOO HIGH,
STAND ON A STEP STOOL,
OR TRY THE KITCHEN TABLE.

Serena uses a stool to reach the counter comfortably.

Marlow continues,
YOUR CUTTING BOARD
SHOULD ALWAYS STAY PUT.
PLACE A DAMP KITCHEN TOWEL
UNDERNEATH
TO KEEP IT FROM
SLIDING AROUND.

Serena wets a towel and wrings it out. She lays it flat on the counter and places her cutting board over it.

Serena says, YUP, IT DOESN'T MOVE.
RULE NUMBER 2:
CHOOSE THE RIGHT TOOL
FOR THE JOB.

Marlow says, CHOOSING THE RIGHT KNIFE
IS DIFFICULT,
EVEN FOR ADULTS!
FEAR NOT, YOUNG CHEFS.
FOLLOW MY TIPS,
AND YOU'LL MAKE
THE RIGHT CHOICES EVERY TIME.
FIRST, LOOK AT THE TIP
OF THE KNIFE.
IF IT'S ROUNDED,
LIKE THIS BUTTERKNIFE,
AND IT'S NOT VERY SHARP,
IT'S BEST USED
FOR SPREADING.

Serena spreads butter on a slice of bread with a rounded butter knife.

Marlow continues, AND IF IT'S POINTY,
THAT MEANS...

Serena says, IT'S SHARP!

Marlow says, EXACTEMENDO.
YES, A CHEF'S KNIFE
CAN DO IT ALL.
IT CAN CHOP,
MINCE,
SLICE...

Serena says, AND DICE.
LIKE THE PEPPERS
AND HAM
IN OUR MUFFLED EGGS.

Marlow says, THE POINTY KNIVES
COME IN ALL SIZES.
A BIGGER KNIFE
WILL GIVE YOU MORE POWER.
AND A SMALLER KNIFE
WILL GIVE YOU MORE PRECISION.

Serena says, IF YOU'RE A ROOKIE
IN THE KITCHEN,
STICK WITH THE SMALLER KNIVES.
THEY'RE EASIER TO CONTROL.

Marlow says, FINALLY,
LOOK AT THE EDGE OF THE KNIFE.
WE ALREADY KNOW
WHAT A STRAIGHT EDGE CAN DO.
THE WAVY EDGE
OF A SERRATED KNIFE
HELPS YOU SLICE SOFT FOOD
WITHOUT SQUISHING IT.

Marlow slices fresh baguette bread with ease.

Serena says, RULE NUMBER 3:
PROTECT YOUR FINGERS.

Marlow says, NOW THAT WE'VE SET UP
OUR STATION,
AND SELECTED OUR KNIVES,
IT'S TIME TO LEARN
HOW TO USE IT SAFELY.
WHEN YOU ARE HOLDING
A SMALLER KNIFE,
DON'T STICK
YOUR FINGERS OUT
OVER THE BLADE.
ALL FIVE FINGERS
AROUND THE HANDLE.
USE YOUR OTHER HAND
TO HOLD ON TO THE INGREDIENT.
CURLING YOUR FINGERS IN.
IF YOU NEED TO CUT SOMETHING
DOWN THE MIDDLE,
MAKE A BRIDGE WITH YOUR HAND,
THE KNIFE GOES
UNDER THE BRIDGE,
AND AWAY FROM YOUR FINGERS.
NO MATTER WHAT,
KEEP BLADES
AWAY FROM YOUR FINGERS.
DON'T CUT OR GRATE THINGS
THAT ARE TOO SMALL,
AND ALWAYS CUT AWAY
FROM YOUR HANDS AND BODY.

Marlow demonstrates the cutting methods on a cucumber. Serena peels a cucumber pulling the peeler safely away from her.

Marlow says, FANTASTIC!
IF YOU'RE NOT READY
TO USE SHARP KNIVES,
PRACTICE CUTTING
SOFT FOOD WITH A BUTTER KNIFE.
TO BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE.

Serena says, BUT DON'T LET THAT
STOP YOU FROM COOKING.

Marlow says, QUITE RIGHT.

Serena says, CHOOSE TASKS
THAT YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WITH,
AND ASK AN ADULT
TO DO THE KNIFE WORK FOR YOU.

Marlow says, AND REMEMBER,
ACCIDENTS HAPPEN,
EVEN TO SUPER
EXPERIENCED CHEFS.
IF YOU CUT YOURSELF,
DON'T WORRY.
STAY CALM
AND FIND AN ADULT.

Serena says, AND THAT'S HOW YOU STAY SHARP
WHILE USING
SHARP KITCHEN TOOLS.

Marlow says, SEE YOU NEXT TIME FOR MORE
KITCHEN TIPS AND TRICKS.
