Arthur and his friends say, HEY!
The singers sing, WHAT A WONDERFUL
KIND OF DAY, HEY!
D.W. closes her book.
Arthur says, HEY, DW.
Arthur waves from a TV.
D.W. says, HEY!
Arthur says, WHOA!
He stumbles.
Arthur groans, UGH!
Arthur’s glasses fall off as he falls backwards.
Emily follows Muffy down a school hallway. She pauses while Muffy continues. A title card reads, Written by Peter K. Hirsch. A person reads the title card.
They say, ARTHUR’S FIRST DAY
PART 2.
Emily enters a bathroom. Text reads, Storyboarded by Gerry Capelle, Hèlène Cossette, Allan Jeffery, Glen Kennedy, Tapani Knuutila, Tom Nesbitt, Jeremy O’Neil, Tahir Rana, Tony Tupilano.
Slink opens a locker.
Molly says, STATUS REPORT.
Slink places a book in his locker. He stands in the school hallway with Molly and Rattles.
Molly asks, HOW'S PROJECT ICEBREAKER
PROGRESSING?
Rattles says, LIKE A CHARM.
THOSE TWO NEOPHYTES HAVE NO IDEA
WHAT'S GOING ON.
He chuckles. Slink laughs.
He says, YEAH, BUNCH OF NEOPHYTES.
Rattles says, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT
WORD MEANS, DO YOU?
Slink says, SURE I DO.
IT'S LIKE A KIND OF WORM, RIGHT?
Rattles says, OH, BROTHER.
He pinches his nose.
(Crying)
The friends turn toward the sound of crying.
Molly says, ZIP IT, WE'VE GOT A
SITUATION.
Molly, Slink and Rattles find kindergartener Emily crying beside the lockers. Molly kneels beside Emily. Emily gasps. Molly moves her hair off her eyes.
She says, HEY, I KNOW YOU, YOU'RE EMILY,
RIGHT?
Emily says, UH-HUH.
Molly asks, ARE YOU LOST?
Emily sniffles.
She says, YEAH.
Molly says, COME ON, I'LL TAKE YOU BACK
TO KINDERGARTEN.
She smiles and offers Emily her hand. Emily takes Molly’s hands. Emily walks through the halls with the group of friends.
Molly says, THE FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN
CAN BE ROUGH.
Rattles says, OH, YEAH.
I REMEMBER MY FIRST DAY, I GOT
GLUE IN MY HAIR.
Skink says, THAT'S NOTHING, I LOST MY
BACKPACK AND THEN I RIPPED MY
PANTS.
Emily says, I SPILLED PAINT AND GOT IT
ALL OVER ME.
Molly says, OH, THAT'S WHAT THAT IS.
I JUST THOUGHT YOU WERE ROCKING
A PUNK LOOK.
Emily says, HUH?
Rattles says, IT'S A COMPLIMENT.
Molly says, LET'S GET YOU BACK TO THE
BATHROOM AND GET YOU CLEANED UP.
She takes Emily to the bathroom. Rattles and Slink wait in the hall. Muffy speaks with kindergarten teacher Ms. Velez.
She says, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
ONE MINUTE SHE WAS RIGHT THERE
AND THE NEXT SHE WAS GONE!
Molly says, MS. VELEZ, I THINK I FOUND
ONE OF YOUR STUDENTS.
Emily stands with the older students in the classroom doorway.
Muffy says, EMILY, I'M SO, SO SORRY!
She kneels and puts her hands on Emily’s shoulders.
Muffy says, I THOUGHT YOU WERE BEHIND ME AND
THEN YOU WEREN'T, AND…
She sighs.
She says, I GUESS I JUST WASN'T PAYING
ATTENTION.
Emily says, HMPH.
She ignores Muffy and walks away.
Ms. Velez says, THANKS, MOLLY.
She leads Emily into the classroom.
Muffy says, I'LL MAKE IT UP TO YOU.
She waves.
She says, I CAN TAKE YOU SHOPPING LATER.
She turns to Molly and her friends, who look annoyed.
Muffy says, I'M HER BIG BUDDY.
Molly says, REALLY?
WOW, LUCKY EMILY.
BET SHE'S REALLY LOOKING FORWARD
TO BEING ABANDONED AT THE MALL.
Muffy gasps.
She says, I'D NEVER DO THAT!
THAT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT.
Rattles says, AN ACCIDENT THAT MIGHT HAVE
RUINED SOMEONE'S VERY FIRST DAY
OF SCHOOL.
Molly says, MAYBE YOU SHOULD STICK TO
BEING TAKEN CARE OF.
Muffy gasps.
Molly says, YOU'RE NOT BIG BUDDY MATERIAL.
Muffy gasps dramatically as Molly, Rattles and Slink leave. Muffy looks at Emily, sitting with Ms. Velez. Emily looks angry. Muffy gulps. Elsewhere, Buster stands behind a bookshelf.
He says, LEWIS CARROL, E.E. CUMMINGS,
EMILY DICKINSON.
Buster gasps.
He says, OOH,
ODE TO THE DONUT
BY DONNY
DONMEYER!
Samir kneels on the other side of the bookshelf in the school library.
Buster says, HEY, THIS LOOKS REALLY GOOD.
Samir says, BUSTER, WE DON'T HAVE TIME.
WE HAVE TO BE BACK IN CLASS IN
FIVE MINUTES.
Buster says, RIGHT, I'LL CHECK IT OUT
LATER.
Buster and Samir search the shelves.
Buster says, AH, HERE WE GO.
THE COLLECTED POEMS OF JOHN
DONNE.
He opens the book of poems.
He asks, WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR?
Samir says, SOME SIGN OR CLUE.
TRY GOING TO THAT POEM YOUR
FRIEND WAS TALKING ABOUT.
Buster says, GOOD IDEA.
"NO MAN IS AN ISLAND," HERE WE
GO.
BINGO!
He takes a folded note out of the book.
He reads, "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE
PASSED THE SECOND TEST."
Samir cheers, YES!
Buster laughs.
He says, I HAD NO IDEA TESTS COULD BE
SO MUCH FUN!
He hands the note to Samir and returns the book to the shelf. Samir unfolds the note.
He reads, "THIS OLD WORK EARNS RESPECT!
ONLY FEW PROSPER AFTER ITS
NOWLEDGE."
Each word in the note is written on a single line, creating a stack of words rather than a regular sentence. The first letter of each word is capitalized.
Buster asks, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Samir says, I HAVE NO IDEA, BUT WE DO
KNOW ONE THING.
Buster asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Samir says, WHOEVER WROTE THIS ISN'T A
VERY GOOD SPELLER.
LOOK, THEY WROTE "KNOWLEDGE"
WITHOUT THE K.
Buster says, HM, SO WE'RE LOOKING FOR A
BAD SPELLER.
He scratches his chin. He gasps.
He says, I KNOW WHO IT IS!
Samir asks, WHO?
Buster says, ME, I'M AWFUL AT SPELLING!
He pauses.
He says, WAIT, IT CAN'T BE ME.
IF IT WAS I'D UNDERSTAND THIS
CLUE.
Samir thoughtful.
He says, UNLESS SOMEONE IS CONTROLLING
YOUR MIND, MAKING YOU DO THINGS,
AND THEN ERASING YOUR MEMORY.
Buster says, I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK,
SAMIR.
Samir says, OH, WE BETTER HURRY!
WE ONLY HAVE TWO MORE MINUTES!
Buster and Samir run out of the library. In a hallway, Alex pulls a book out of his locker.
He says, HERE'S BOOK ONE.
He hands Arthur the book.
Arthur says, THE DIZZYING DIMENSION.
Alex says, IT'S WHERE CALEB AND SAM
FIRST JUMP THROUGH THE PORTAL
TOGETHER.
Arthur says, THANKS, I CAN'T WAIT TO
START IT.
He reads a page in the book.
He reads, "TWISTING AND TURNING, HEAD OVER
FEET.
NO MATTER HOW THEY TRIED TO HOLD
ONTO ONE ANOTHER, IT WAS JUST NO
USE."
Alex closes his locker.
He says, SEE YOU INSIDE.
Arthur says, HUH?
YEAH, I'M COMING!
He slowly follows Alex while reading the book.
Buster yells, ACTIVATING THRUSTERS!
Behind Arthur, Buster and Samir run through the hall with their arms spread like wings. They imitate engine noises as they run past Arthur.
Arthur says, HEY, BUSTER, CHECK IT OUT!
I GOT THE –
Samir says, ENGAGING WARP DRIVE!
Buster follows Samir into their classroom. The friends laugh.
(Throat clearing)
Mr. Ratburn looks at his watch.
He says, ARTHUR, CARE TO JOIN US?
Arthur says, OH, SORRY!
He runs into the classroom. He glances behind him. Outside, the kindergarten class plays on a playset. D.W. plays in the sand with her classmate Ryan, and a classmate wearing a purple shirt.
She says, FIRST, YOU PUT IN SAND.
THEN YOU ADD ROCKS…
D.W. adds rocks to a bucket of sand. Her classmates watch closely.
D.W. says, …BUT THEY
HAVE TO BE SHINY.
The classmate wearing a purple shirt nods.
D.W. says, THEN MORE SAND, THEN SOME
LEAVES, A LITTLE MORE SAND,
WATER.
She pours water over the sand, rocks and leaves in the bucket.
D.W. says, GIVE IT A SHAKE, TURN IT UPSIDE
DOWN, AND VOILA!
She reveals her creation.
She says, TRIPLE-LAYER MUD CAKE.
Ryan yells, DW MADE TRIPLE-LAYER MUD
CAKE!
The classmate wearing the purple shirt says, IT'S NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!
D.W. stands.
She says, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
She takes a bow.
She says, NOW, EMILY USUALLY MAKES A MUD
FROSTING.
HEY, WHERE IS EMILY?
The classmate in the purple shirt asks, WHO'S EMILY?
D.W. says, HER!
She points to Emily, who’s sitting on a merry-go-round. Emily struggles to get a straw in a juice box.
Ryan says, OH, YOU MEAN LIVER GIRL?
He giggles.
D.W. says, HEY, DON'T CALL HER THAT!
SHE'S MY FRIEND!
Ryan says, SORRY.
D.W. says, AND IT ISN'T LIVER, IT'S
PATE, AND I LOVE IT!
Ryan says, I LOVE IT, TOO.
The classmate in the purple shirt asks, CAN YOU GET US SOME?
Emily gets the straw in her juice box, but juice sprays out and on her face.
She says, PERFECT.
D.W. says, HERE.
She hands Emily a napkin.
Emily says, THANKS.
She wipes juice off her face.
D.W. says, I WAS JUST SHOWING THESE
KIDS HOW TO MAKE TRIPLE-LAYER
MUD CAKE.
DO YOU WANT TO COME OVER AND DO
THE FROSTING?
Emily says, NOT RIGHT NOW.
D.W., I DON'T THINK I'M READY FOR
KINDERGARTEN.
D.W. sits on the merry-go-round with Emily.
She says, SURE YOU ARE.
Emily says, BUT EVERYTHING HAS GONE
WRONG!
IF THIS IS WHAT THE FIRST DAY IS
LIKE, WHAT WILL TOMORROW BE
LIKE?
Emily imagines herself in the kindergarten classroom with a drawing and a blue crayon. She drops the crayon. It rolls off the table and into a truck that hits a toy and launches a toy block into a shelf, knocking it loose. Buckets of paint fall off the shelf and onto Emily’s table. Emily screams as paint splashes everywhere.
Ryan says, AH, IT'S ON ME!
The classmate wearing the purple shirt says, SHE DID IT AGAIN!
The loose shelf falls and hits a rabbit cage. The cage opens and the rabbits escape.
(Kids screaming)
Covered in paint, the kindergartners run frantically through the room.
Ryan says, GET AWAY FROM HER!
Ms. Velez says, IT'S OKAY, IT'S OKAY.
She runs to Emily’s side.
She says, IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT, ESME.
Emily screams, IT'S EMILY!
(Gasping)
The room shakes. Outside, the entire school shakes. The wall of the kindergarten classroom falls.
(Gasping)
Emily says, OH, NO!
D.W. says, SHE DIDN'T MEAN TO DO THAT!
In reality, Emily says, KINDERGARTEN IS TOO HARD FOR
ME.
MAYBE I SHOULD JUST STAY
HOME.
D.W. asks, HOW WILL YOU LEARN ANYTHING?
Emily says, I DON'T NEED TO LEARN
ANYTHING.
I KNOW MOST OF THE ALPHABET AND
ALL THE NUMBERS UP TO SEVEN.
THAT'S PLENTY.
D.W. says, EMILY, KINDERGARTEN WILL GET
EASIER.
IF ARTHUR MADE IT THROUGH, YOU
CAN.
Emily says, HOW CAN YOU BE SURE?
D.W. says, I JUST AM.
She pulls out her mini unicorn toy.
She says, HERE.
Emily gasps.
She says, YOU'RE GIVING ME MINI UNI?
SHE WHO HAS THE POWER OF ALL THE
LOVE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD AND CAN
USE IT TO GRANT A CHILD A SINGLE
WISH?
D.W. nods.
Emily says, D.W., I CAN'T.
D.W. says, TAKE IT.
CHOOSE YOUR WISH WISELY.
Emily smiles. She nods and looks down at the Mini Uni. In Mr. Ratburn’s classroom, Muffy returns to her seat.
Francine asks, WHY WEREN'T YOU AT LUNCH?
Muffy eats a banana.
She says, OH, EMILY AND I WERE HAVING
SO MUCH FUN, I JUST LOST TRACK
OF TIME.
DID YOU GET A TATTOO?
Muffy glances at Francine’s hand where there’s a red letter T. Francine sighs.
She says, TOMMY TIBBLE DREW IT ON ME
WHEN WE WERE PLAYING COW.
NOW IT WON'T COME OFF.
Francine tries rubbing the letter.
She says, YOU SURE LUCKED OUT WITH THE
LITTLE BUDDY YOU GOT.
Muffy gulps as she finishes her banana.
She says, MM-HM.
COULD YOU THROW THIS OUT FOR ME?
Francine throws Muffy’s banana peel in a trash can.
Francine asks, WHAT'D YOU TWO WIND UP
DOING?
Muffy says, OH, IT WAS GREAT.
I SHOWED HER THE SCHOOL LIBRARY
AND THE NEW COMPUTERS, AND WE
MADE A PICTURE, AND THEN I LOST
HER, AND THEN WE MADE A DATE TO
GO SHOPPING.
Francine says, WAIT, YOU LOST HER?
Muffy says, JUST FOR A TINY BIT, LIKE 15
MINUTES, BUT I'M GOING TO MAKE
IT UP TO HER.
Francine says, WOW, IF FOURTH GRADE IS ALL
ABOUT RESPONSIBILITY, THEN I
THINK YOU JUST FLUNKED.
Mr. Ratburn says, OKAY, CLASS, LET'S HEAR YOUR
REPORTS ON THE SUMMER READING.
BINKY?
Binky walks up to the front of the class with his report.
He says, PETER PAN,
BY J.M. BARRIE.
PETER PAN IS A STORY ABOUT A BOY
WHO DOESN'T WANT TO GROW UP, AND
HE TRIES TO GET OTHER KIDS TO
FOLLOW HIM TO NEVERLAND SO THEY
CAN NEVER GROW UP EITHER.
Muffy imagines Emily sleeping.
Muffy says, EMILY, AWAKE!
Muffy is dressed like Peter Pan. She flies above Emily’s bed.
Muffy says, IT IS I, MUFFY PAN, YOUR BIG
BUDDY!
Emily says, WOW, YOU CAN FLY!
Muffy Pan says, YUP, AND I'M HERE TO TAKE
YOU TO NEVERLAND, A PLACE WHERE
YOU NEVER EVER HAVE TO GROW UP.
Emily says, YAY!
She jumps on her bed.
She says, WAIT, BUT DON'T I WANT TO GROW
UP?
IF I NEVER GROW UP, THEN I'LL
NEVER BE ABLE TO DRIVE A CAR.
Muffy Pan says, WHO WANTS TO DRIVE A CAR WHEN
YOU CAN DO THIS!
She flies around Emily’s room. Emily giggles.
Muffy Pan says, PLUS, GROWING UP MEANS “BEING
RESPONSIBLE”, AND TRUST ME, IT'S
TOO HARD.
BEING DEPENDABLE, CARING FOR
OTHER PEOPLE.
AH, WHO HAS THE TIME?
Emily says, OKAY, YOU'VE CONVINCED ME.
TEACH ME HOW TO FLY.
Muffy Pan says, IT'S EASY.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS THINK
GOOD THOUGHTS.
Emily closes her eyes.
She says, CHOCOLATE CAKE, CHOCOLATE
CAKE, CHOCOLATE CAKE.
Muffy Pan says, AND THEN WE JUST SPRINKLE
YOU WITH A LITTLE PIXIE DUST.
OH, TINKERBAILEY!
Muffy’s butler Bailey, as Tinker Bailey, sprinkles pixie dust over Emily, then disappears.
Muffy says, PERFECT, NOW YOU'RE READY!
Emily flies. She gasps, then laughs.
She says, THIS IS AMAZING!
She flies around her room.
Muffy says, OFF WE GO TO NEVERLAND!
Emily squeals as she flies out of her room after Muffy Pan.
In the sky, Emily asks, WHERE IS NEVERLAND?
Muffy Pan says, BEATS ME.
LEARNING DIRECTIONS IS VERY
GROWN UP.
I JUST USE AN APP.
Muffy Pan looks at a smart device.
She says, FIND NEVERLAND.
The phone beeps and says, TURN RIGHT HERE.
Muffy Pan and Emily turn down a street. They fly up into the clouds in the night sky.
Muffy Pan says, THERE IT IS!
Emily says, WOW!
They fly above an island.
Muffy Pan says, AND THE BEST PART IS, YOU'LL
REMAIN THE SAME AGE YOU ARE
FOREVER!
She flies through the clouds.
She says, I'VE BEEN IN THE FOURTH GRADE
FOR OVER 500 YEARS.
THAT'S EVEN LONGER THAN BINKY.
Muffy Pan pauses and looks behind her.
She says, EMILY?
WHERE'D YOU GO?
(Shouting)
(Dramatic music plays)
A pirate ship is in the water below.
Muffy Pan says, OH, NO, THE PIRATES HAVE HER!
She flies onto the ship. On the ship, Molly, Rattles and Slink as pirates, laugh.
Muffy Pan demands, HAND HER OVER!
Rattles says, HAND WHO OVER?
Muffy Pan says, EMILY, MY LITTLE BUDDY.
Molly says, HEY, EM, SOMEONE HERE TO SEE
YOU.
Molly steps aside and reveals Emily with a sandwich.
Muffy Pan says, EMILY, DON'T BE AFRAID, I'M
HERE TO RESCUE YOU.
Emily says, OH, UM, THAT'S OKAY, I'M
GOOD.
Muffy Pan says, WHAT?
Emily says, IT'S JUST THAT I FEEL SAFER
WITH THE PIRATES.
Muffy Pan says, BUT THEY'RE PIRATES!
Rattles says, WE PREFER THE TERM
"BUCCANEERS."
Emily says, AT LEAST THEY DON'T LOSE ME
LIKE YOU DO.
Muffy Pan says, THAT WAS AN ACCIDENT.
Emily says, I'M SORRY, MUFFY, BUT YOU'RE
JUST TOO IRRESPONSIBLE FOR ME.
Muffy Pan gasps.
Emily offers, SANDWICH?
Rattles says, THANKS, EM.
NORMALLY I MAKE THE SANDWICHES,
BUT THE CROCODILE TOOK MY
CONDIMENT SPREADING HAND.
Rattle has tongs as a hand. Slink takes a bite of his sandwich.
He says, MM, PATE.
Muffy Pan says, BUT I CAN BE RESPONSIBLE!
I CAN!
She cries.
Molly says, OH, GROW UP, MUFFY PAN.
She tosses Muffy Pan a tissue. Muffy Pan blows her nose loudly. The pirates laugh as they leave with Emily. In reality, Binky continues his report.
He says, AND THEN WENDY RETURNS TO
THE REAL WORLD, AND THEY ALL
LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
THE END.
Muffy says, THAT'S THE SADDEST STORY
EVER.
Binky says, REALLY?
I THOUGHT IT WAS A COMEDY.
He walks past Muffy and Francine’s desk pod. Muffy frowns. A clock reads, 2:00. Muffy walks up to Mr. Ratburn’s desk with her paper of information on Emily.
She says, MR. RATBURN, I,
I HAVE TO RESIGN FROM BEING A
BIG BUDDY.
Mr. Ratburn says, REALLY?
WHY?
Muffy says, I TOOK EMILY ON A TOUR
EARLIER AND I LOST HER.
She hands Mr. Ratburn the paper.
Mr. Ratburn says, OH, DEAR.
Muffy says, I DON'T THINK I'M READY FOR
THIS RESPONSIBILITY.
MAYBE I'M NOT READY FOR ANY
RESPONSIBILITIES.
Mr. Ratburn says, I DISAGREE, I THINK YOU
COULD BE AN EXCELLENT BIG BUDDY.
He hands Muffy a handkerchief.
Muffy says, BUT…
She blows her nose loudly.
She says, …WHY?
Mr. Ratburn says, BECAUSE WHAT YOU'RE DOING
RIGHT NOW IS RESPONSIBLE.
YOU'VE COME TO ME FOR HELP.
He slides Emily’s information back toward Muffy.
He adds, NO ONE GETS EVERYTHING RIGHT THE
FIRST TIME.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO KEEP
TRYING.
Muffy says, OKAY.
Mr. Ratburn says, MAYBE THERE'S A WAY TO SHOW
EMILY THAT YOU CAN BE THERE FOR
HER WHEN SHE NEEDS YOU.
Muffy says, HM, I WONDER.
THANKS, MR. RATBURN.
I'LL GIVE IT ANOTHER SHOT.
Muffy offers Mr. Ratburn his handkerchief.
Mr. Ratburn says, YOU CAN KEEP THAT.
NOW, BETTER HURRY, YOU DON'T
WANT TO BE LATE FOR ART CLASS.
Muffy leaves, smiling. Arthur’s class passes Buster’s in the art room doorway.
Buster says, ARTHUR!
Arthur says, BUSTER, HOW'S IT GOING?
Buster says, GREAT, I KNOW WE SAID WE'D
MEET AFTER SCHOOL, BUT I MIGHT
BE A LITTLE LATE.
Arthur says, OH.
Buster says, SAMIR AND I PASSED THE
SECOND TEST AND FOUND ANOTHER
CLUE.
He continues down the hall with his class.
Arthur says, UM, GREAT...
He joins the rest of his class in the art room. The class stands around a pottery wheel with their art teacher. Arthur wears an apron. He powers on the wheel and starts to mold clay into a circular shape as it spins. Arthur stares at the spinning clay. The clay becomes a portal as Arthur imagines himself and Buster in The Dimension of Darkness book. Buster wears his lucky jester’s hat.
Arthur says, BUSTER, WE DID IT!
WE CREATED A PORTAL INTO ANOTHER
DIMENSION.
Buster says, WHO KNOWS WHERE IT MIGHT TAKE
US?
Arthur asks, ARE YOU READY?
Buster says, I WAS BORN READY!
Arthur takes Buster’s hand. They get ready to jump into the portal.
Buster says, WAIT, DID YOU BRING YOUR LUCKY
PENCIL?
Arthur checks his pockets.
He says, I FORGOT IT AGAIN!
Buster says, I TOLD YOU, JUST TIE A STRING
TO IT AND WEAR IT AROUND YOUR
NECK!
Arthur says, I WILL, I WILL!
Buster says, IT'S OKAY, I BROUGHT THIS!
He pulls his lucky horseshoe from under his sweater that he wears around his neck. Arthur takes Buster’s hand.
Together, the friends count, ONE, TWO, THREE!
The friends jump into the portal. They scream as they’re thrown around. Buster loses his lucky hat and horseshoe.
Arthur says, YOU'VE GOT TO HOLD ON!
Arthur and Buster start to lose their grip on each other.
Buster says, I'M TRYING!
Arthur calls, BUSTER!
The friends lose their grip and they’re thrown into different universes. Arthur lands in a forest with a grunt. Buster’s lucky horseshoe necklace lands beside him.
Arthur says, BUSTER?
He picks up the horseshoe and spots an elderly aardvark sitting on a bench by a lake. Arthur joins them.
He says, HI, UM, COULD YOU TELL ME WHERE
I AM?
The aardvark says, MIRROROPOLIS, A WORLD WHERE
YOU CAN MEET YOURSELF AT
DIFFERENT AGES.
I'M THE 86-YEAR-OLD YOU.
Young Arthur says, OH, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Elderly Arthur says, YES, I'D SAY NICE TO MEET YOU
TOO, BUT I'VE ALREADY MET YOU 77
YEARS AGO.
He chuckles.
He says, SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY.
SIT, SIT.
Young Arthur sits on the bench beside Elderly Arthur.
Elderly Arthur asks, WANT HALF OF MY TUNA FISH
SANDWICH?
Young Arthur says, I DON'T LIKE TUNA FISH.
Elderly Arthur says, YOU WILL ONE DAY.
Young Arthur looks at the lucky horseshoe.
He asks, HAVE YOU SEEN BUSTER
ANYWHERE?
Elderly Arthur says, WHO?
Young Arthur says, BUSTER, YOU KNOW, OUR BEST
FRIEND, THE BUNNY.
Elderly Arthur says, OH, THERE IS ONE BUNNY HERE.
THERE HE IS NOW.
He gestures to a bunny watching the sun set.
Young Arthur says, BUSTER, THERE YOU ARE!
He runs up to the bunny.
Young Arthur says, I WAS WORRIED CAUSE I JUST FOUND
YOUR HORSESHOE AND –
The bunny turns to face Young Arthur.
Young Arthur says, OH, YOU'RE NOT BUSTER.
The bunny says, BUSTER?
WHO'S THAT?
Elderly Arthur joins Young Arthur and the bunny.
He says, OH, I REMEMBER BUSTER.
HE WAS THAT KID WHO WAS ALWAYS
GOING ON ABOUT ALIENS.
Elderly Arthur chuckles.
Young Arthur asks, WHERE IS HE?
Elderly Arthur says, NO IDEA.
YOU TWO LOSE TOUCH AFTER THIRD
GRADE.
Young Arthur says, WHAT?
NO, WE DON'T.
I WOULDN'T LET THAT HAPPEN.
Elderly Arthur says, IT'S OKAY, YOU HAVE LOTS OF
OTHER BEST FRIENDS LIKE ALEX
HERE.
He gestures to the bunny, who waves.
Young Arthur says, BUT I DON'T WANT OTHER BEST
FRIENDS!
I WAS BUSTER!
(Squawking)
Elderly Arthur says, OH, LOOK, HERE COME THE
SWANS.
Arthur, as swans, travel down the lake. Young Arthur screams. Elderly Arthur feeds the swans parts of his sandwich.
Young Arthur says, GET ME OUT OF HERE.
He screams. In reality, Arthur looks distracted as his clay spins on the pottery wheel. Francine walks up to him.
She says, UM, ARTHUR, CAN I TAKE MY
TURN NOW?
Arthur runs down a hallway. He runs into Mrs. Grimslid’s classroom.
Arthur says, EXCUSE ME, MRS. GRIMSLID?
DO YOU KNOW WHERE BUSTER IS?
Mrs. Grimslid says, WHICH ONE IS BUSTER?
She grabs her clipboard.
Arthur says, HE HAS REALLY LONG EARS.
HE'S ALWAYS SMILING.
He looks thoughtful.
He says, HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN WEARING A
REALLY SILLY HAT THIS MORNING.
Mrs. Grimslid says, OH, THE CLASS CLOWN.
BAXTER, COMMA B, PERIOD.
HE'S WITH PATEL, COMMA S,
PERIOD.
IT'S A STUDY BREAK SO TRY THE
LIBRARY.
Arthur says, THANKS!
He runs out of the classroom and down a hallway as Buster rounds the corner.
Arthur says, BUSTER!
Samir follows Buster.
Buster says, ARTHUR, THERE YOU ARE!
WE WERE LOOKING ALL OVER FOR
YOU.
Arthur says, YOU WERE?
Buster says, I TOLD SAMIR IF THERE'S
ANYONE WHO CAN HELP US FIGURE
THIS OUT, IT'S ARTHUR.
Samir says, I'M SAMIR, HI.
He waves.
Arthur says, HI.
He waves and smiles at Samir.
Samir asks, DO YOU LIKE MAGIC?
Arthur says, UM, SURE.
Buster says, LATER, SAMIR, THIS IS MORE
IMPORTANT.
Samir says, RIGHT.
Buster hands Arthur the note from the library.
Arthur reads, "THIS OLD WORK EARNS
RESPECT!
ONLY FEW PROSPER AFTER ITS
NOWLEDGE."
He looks up at Samir and Buster and says, HUH?
Buster says, ALL WE KNOW IS THAT WHOEVER
WROTE THIS IS A BAD SPELLER.
Arthur says, I'LL SAY, UNLESS THEY DID
THAT ON PURPOSE, AND I WONDER
WHY THE WORDS ARE WRITTEN THIS
WAY AND NOT ACROSS.
Samir says, YEAH, LOOK THE FIRST LETTER
OF EVERY WORD LINES UP.
Buster says, MAYBE IT'S SPELLS SOMETHING?
Arthur says, T-O-W…
Buster continues, …E-R-O-F-P-A –
He gasps.
He says, TOWER OF PAIN!
Samir asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Buster says, IT'S WHAT WE CALL THE TOP OF
THE JUNGLE GYM.
SEE, I TOLD YOU ARTHUR WOULD
HELP US.
COME ON, LET'S CHECK IT OUT.
Buster and Samir take off running with the note.
Alex calls, ARTHUR!
He walks toward Arthur.
He asks, WANT TO GO TO RECESS
WITH ME?
Arthur says, UH...
He glances at Buster and Samir running toward a set of doors.
Arthur says, UH...
He looks from Buster and Samir to Alex.
Buster says, HEY!
He pauses at the doors with Samir.
Buster says, YOU'RE COMING WITH US
RIGHT?
Arthur says, YES!
He turns to Alex and says, HEY, WANT TO COME WITH US TO
INVESTIGATE A REALLY COOL
MYSTERY?
Alex says, SURE.
Arthur says, I'LL EXPLAIN ALONG THE WAY.
He and Alex run outside after Buster and Samir. In the kindergarten room, Emily holds Mini Uni at her table.
D.W. says, WELL, DID YOU MAKE YOUR WISH
YET?
Emily says, NOT YET.
D.W. says, YOU BETTER DO IT SOON.
I'M GONNA NEED THAT BACK AT SOME
POINT.
Emily says, OKAY, I'M WISHING.
She closes her eyes.
She says, I WISH FOR –
D.W. says, SHHH!
NOT OUT LOUD.
IT HAS TO BE A SECRET.
Emily says, OKAY.
She glances at a group of her classmates laughing. She looks at a classmate joining a pair of classmates reading a book together.
The student says, OH!
Emily closes her eyes. She opens them.
She says, DONE.
THANKS.
She hands D.W. the mini unicorn.
D.W. asks, WHAT DID YOU WISH FOR?
Emily says, JUST THAT I –
D.W. says, WAIT! YOU CAN'T TELL ME.
YOU HAVE TO KEEP IT A SECRET
UNTIL IT COMES TRUE.
Emily says, THEN WHY DID YOU ASK ME?
D.W. says, SORRY, I FORGOT.
SHHHHHH.
She puts her finger to her lip.
She says, MAY THE POWER OF UNI BE WITH
YOU.
Emily and D.W. leave the table. Emily walks up to Timmy and a classmate wearing a pink dress playing with pink clay.
She says, HI, I'M EMILY.
The classmate in the pink dress makes a bunny out of clay.
She says, HI.
She and Timmy laugh when the bunny’s head nearly falls off. Emily frowns and walks away. She tries a table with two of her classmates playing with toy blocks.
Emily says, HI.
CAN I JOIN IN?
(Siren)
A fire truck drives past the classroom window. The student in the blue shirt gasps.
He says, LOOK, A FIRE ENGINE!
He points to the fire truck and the other classmate looks out the window. Emily sighs. She leaves. In the hallway, Muffy runs up to Sue Ellen at her locker.
Muffy says, SUE ELLEN, DO YOU KNOW WHAT
TIME KINDERGARTEN GETS OUT?
Sue Ellen says, UH, 2:30, IN 15 MINUTES.
Muffy gasps. She groans, runs down the hallway and into the library. All the computers are taken. Muffy runs up to the first computer where a student wearing a black shirt sits≥
Muffy asks, DO YOU MIND IF I JUST PRINT
SOMETHING REAL QUICK?
The student says, I'LL BE THROUGH IN A FEW
MINUTES.
He turns back to the computer.
Muffy says, PRETTY PLEASE?
The student shakes his head. Muffy groans. Outside, Binky plays with a toy on top of the playset. Buster, Arthur, Samir and Alex walk up. Buster starts to climb the playset.
Binky says, UH-UH-UH, WHAT'S THE
PASSWORD?
Arthur tries, PLEASE?
Binky says, NOPE.
Buster says, SAUERKRAUT.
Alex says, ABRACADABRA.
Arthur says, POPSICLE.
Binky says, NO, NO, NO.
Buster says, HOOLA-BOOLA WIKI-TIKI WOW!
Binky says, WIKI-TIKI WHAT?
WHERE'D YOU GET THAT FROM?
Samir looks thoughtful.
He says, JACK OF DIAMONDS?
Buster says, THAT WAS MY CARD!
Samir says, NO WAY, I JUST GUESSED!
Buster laughs.
He says, HEY, YOU'RE A BETTER MAGICIAN
THAN YOU KNOW.
Binky says, ACTUALLY, THERE IS NO
PASSWORD.
I WAS JUST PULLING YOUR CHAIN.
COME ON UP.
Buster, Arthur and their friends climb up the playset. They look around.
Arthur says, THERE'S NOTHING HERE.
Binky asks, LOOKING FOR THIS?
He holds up an envelope.
(Gasps)
Binky says, I FOUND IT ON THE GROUND.
He hands the envelope to Arthur.
He says, EVEN THOUGH I PUT UP THIS NO
LITTERING SIGN.
Binky points to a handmade sign.
He says, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT WITH YOU.
He rides a slide down the playset. Arthur takes a note out of the envelope.
He reads, "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE
PASSED THE THIRD TEST.
HERE IS YOUR FINAL CLUE."
A red X is marked on a map on the note.
Samir says, IT'S A MAP, BUT TO WHAT?
Alex says, WAIT, THIS LOOKS LIKE A
PLAYGROUND.
Arthur says, I THINK THIS IS A MAP OF THE
SCHOOL.
AND THE X IS RIGHT HERE.
THAT LOOKS LIKE IT'S NEAR THE
CAFETERIA.
Buster says, COME ON, LET'S GO.
The group of friends ride down the slide. In the library, the student wearing the black shirt types slowly on the computer.
Muffy says, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!
JUST LET ME PRINT ONE THING!
I HAVE TO PROVE TO EMILY THAT I
CAN BE A GOOD BIG BUDDY.
The student sighs but leaves.
Muffy says, THANK YOU!
HERE, THAT'S GOOD FOR ONE FREE
OIL CHANGE AT CROSSWIRE MOTORS!
She hands the student a card from Crosswire Motors that reads, Free Oil Change! Muffy logs into the computer. She prints the picture of her and Emily. A light flashes on the printer.
The printer says, PRINTER JAM, PRINTER JAM,
PRINTER JAM.
Muffy says, PRINTER JAM!?
She screams and pulls on her braids. In the halls, Alex looks at the map as he walks with the group of friends. They turn a corner.
Buster says, IT'S OVER THIS WAY!
The friends run toward a janitors closet.
Alex says, I THINK THIS IS IT.
Buster and Arthur walk up to the door. Arthur puts his hand on the door knob.
He asks, READY?
Buster says, I WAS BORN READY.
Samir gives a thumbs up. Arthur opens the door. Three mysterious figures wear hoods over their eyes. They stand behind a lava lamp that lights the dark room. The group of friends gasp. The mysterious figures speak with gravely voices.
The middle figure says, CONGRATULATIONS.
YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TRIAL.
The figure to the right says, HERE IS YOUR REWARD.
Buster accepts an apple.
He says, THAT'S IT?
AN APPLE?
Samir says, MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING
INSIDE THE APPLE.
The figure to the left says, NO, THERE'S NOTHING INSIDE
THE APPLE.
IT'S JUST AN APPLE.
The figure to the right speaks normally.
He says, IT'S A GOLDEN DELICIOUS.
THEY'RE VERY SWEET.
The middle figure speaks normally.
He says, HEY, YOU'RE NOT USING YOUR
VOICE.
The figure to the right says, OH, RIGHT.
He uses a gravelly voice to say, SORRY!
Arthur says, WAIT A MINUTE, I KNOW THAT
VOICE.
He pushes back the hood of the middle figure, revealing Rattles.
Rattles says, THE JIG IS UP.
Molly and Slink reveal themselves. Samir turns on the light.
Buster says, WHAT?
I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
WHAT WAS THIS ALL ABOUT?
Rattles says, WHEN I GOT TO FOURTH, I
DIDN'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS AT
FIRST, IT ACTUALLY TOOK ME A
LONG TIME TO MEET PEOPLE I
LIKED.
Molly says, ME, TOO.
Rattles says, SO, I DECIDED TO SEND WHOEVER
SAT AT MY DESK AND THE PERSON
BESIDE THEM ON A LITTLE
ADVENTURE.
Molly says, THUS BEGAN PROJECT
ICEBREAKER.
Rattles says, IT WAS JUST A WAY FOR A
COUPLE OF NEOPHYTES TO GET TO
KNOW EACH OTHER BETTER.
Slink chuckles.
He says, BUNCH OF SLIMY NEOPHYTES.
Rattles says, UGH, IT'S NOT A WORM, SLINK!
NEOPHYTE JUST BEEN SOMEONE WHO
IS NEW AT SOMETHING.
Slink says, OH.
Buster says, YOU KNOW I THINK PROJECT
ICEBREAKER ACTUALLY WORKED.
Samir says, YEAH.
Alex says, IT DID.
Arthur says, THANKS.
Molly, Rattles and Slink smile. Outside the kindergarten classroom, Muffy slides past the door panting. She runs in with Emily’s drawing. Ms. Velez notices Muffy run past her desk.
Muffy says, HUH?
The classroom is empty.
Muffy says, WHERE IS EVERYBODY!?
Ms. Velez says, THEY ALL JUST LEFT.
Muffy says, OH, NO!
She looks out the classroom window where she sees Emily getting in a car with her nanny. She gasps. Muffy runs outside. Emily’s nanny pulls away from the school.
Muffy says, WAIT, EMILY, WAIT!
She runs down a sidewalk alongside the car.
She calls, EMILY!
EMILY!
Emily’s nanny pulls over. Muffy pants as she catches up. She leans against Emily’s open window.
Emily says, MUFFY?
Muffy says, I JUST, I WANTED TO GIVE YOU
THIS.
She holds out a damaged copy of Emily’s computer drawing.
Emily asks, WHAT IS IT?
Muffy says, IT'S THE DRAWING YOU MADE
EARLIER.
REMEMBER, I SAID I'D PRINT IT
FOR YOU.
Emily looks at the drawing.
She says, OH, YEAH.
Muffy says, I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO
PRINT IT IN COLOR AND THEN IT
GOT JAMMED IN THE PRINTER.
SO, I HAD TO PULL IT OUT, BUT
THAT'S IT.
Emily says, THANKS.
Muffy says, EMILY, I'M SO, SO, SORRY
ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TODAY.
IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, I
PROMISE.
CAN I STILL BE YOUR BIG BUDDY?
Emily looks at the drawing. She smiles and looks back at Muffy.
Emily says, OKAY.
HEY, MY WISH CAME TRUE.
D.W. walks up the sidewalk toward Muffy and Emily with her mom.
Muffy says, YOUR WISH?
Emily says, YEAH, I WISHED ON MINI UNI THAT
I WOULD MAKE ONE NEW FRIEND
TODAY, AND I DID.
D.W. catches up with Muffy and Emily.
She says, SEE, I TOLD YOU IT WOULD
WORK.
Emily giggles. D.W. and her mom continue up the sidewalk.
Emily asks, WILL YOU TEACH ME HOW TO
BRAID MY HAIR LIKE YOURS?
IT LOOKS TRES CHIC.
Muffy says, YOU BET.
I PUT MY NUMBER ON THE BACK.
YOU CAN CALL ME ANY TIME.
Emily giggles.
She says, OKAY, SEE YOU TOMORROW.
Emily and Muffy wave as Emily leaves. Arthur and his friends walk together.
Arthur says, WOW, WHAT A FIRST
DAY, RIGHT?
Buster says, I KNOW.
TO BE HONEST, I WAS KIND OF
DREADING IT.
Samir says, ME TOO, BUT IT TURNED
OUT PRETTY GOOD.
Arthur says, YEAH, I'D EVEN SAY IT TURNED
OUT GREAT.
Samir says, HEY, ALEX, DO YOU LIKE MAGIC?
Alex says, SURE, WHO DOESN'T?
Arthur says, SAMIR, DON'T YOU THINK YOU
SHOULD PRACTICE A LITTLE FIRST?
The friends pause on a bridge.
Buster says, HEY, HE GOT MY CARD.
EVENTUALLY.
He eats the apple from their completed Project Icebreaker trial.
Samir says, NO, NO, NO.
THIS TIME I'VE GOT IT, REALLY.
PICK A CARD, ANY CARD.
Alex picks a card from Samir’s deck.
Samir says, LOOK AT IT.
Alex’s card is the Jack of spades.
Samir says, NOW, PUT IT BACK IN THE DECK.
Alex returns the card. Samir shuffles the deck and pulls out a card.
He says, TA-DA , EIGHT OF HEARTS.
Alex says, NOPE.
Samir guesses, FOUR OF CLUBS?
Alex says, SORRY.
The group of friends continue across the bridge.
Samir guesses, TWO OF CLUBS?
Alex says, KEEP TRYING.
Samir says, AW, MAN.

D.W. flips a page in a book featuring Arthur. She laughs.
People sing, AND I SAY HEY!
In the book, Arthur says, HEY!
The singers sing, WHAT A WONDERFUL KIND OF DAY
WHERE YOU CAN LEARN
TO WORK AND PLAY
AND GET ALONG

Arthur rides a bike.

LISTEN TO THE BEAT
LISTEN TO THE RHYTHM,
THE RHYTHM OF THE STREET
OPEN UP YOUR EYES,
OPEN UP YOUR EARS
GET TOGETHER

Arthur’s family takes a picture of him. Arthur frowns and puts his hands on his hips.
The singer sings, IT'S A SIMPLE MESSAGE
AND IT COMES FROM THE HEART.
Arthur hugs his mom.
The singer sings, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
Others sing, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
The singer sings, WELL, THAT'S THE PLACE

The singers sing, WHAT A WONDERFUL KIND OF DAY.
Arthur splashes into a pool.
The singers sing, YOU CAN LEARN

Mr. Ratburn swims in the pool.
He says, HEY!
The singers sing, WHAT A WONDERFUL KIND OF DAY
Arthur and his friends say, HEY!
The singers sing, WHAT A WONDERFUL
KIND OF DAY, HEY!
D.W. closes her book.
Arthur says, HEY, DW.
Arthur waves from a TV.
D.W. says, HEY!
Arthur says, WHOA!
He stumbles.
Arthur groans, UGH!
Arthur’s glasses fall off as he falls backwards.
Emily follows Muffy down a school hallway. She pauses while Muffy continues. A title card reads, Written by Peter K. Hirsch. A person reads the title card.
They say, ARTHUR’S FIRST DAY
PART 2.
Emily enters a bathroom. Text reads, Storyboarded by Gerry Capelle, Hèlène Cossette, Allan Jeffery, Glen Kennedy, Tapani Knuutila, Tom Nesbitt, Jeremy O’Neil, Tahir Rana, Tony Tupilano.
Slink opens a locker.
Molly says, STATUS REPORT.
Slink places a book in his locker. He stands in the school hallway with Molly and Rattles.
Molly asks, HOW'S PROJECT ICEBREAKER
PROGRESSING?
Rattles says, LIKE A CHARM.
THOSE TWO NEOPHYTES HAVE NO IDEA
WHAT'S GOING ON.
He chuckles. Slink laughs.
He says, YEAH, BUNCH OF NEOPHYTES.
Rattles says, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT
WORD MEANS, DO YOU?
Slink says, SURE I DO.
IT'S LIKE A KIND OF WORM, RIGHT?
Rattles says, OH, BROTHER.
He pinches his nose.
(Crying)
The friends turn toward the sound of crying.
Molly says, ZIP IT, WE'VE GOT A
SITUATION.
Molly, Slink and Rattles find kindergartener Emily crying beside the lockers. Molly kneels beside Emily. Emily gasps. Molly moves her hair off her eyes.
She says, HEY, I KNOW YOU, YOU'RE EMILY,
RIGHT?
Emily says, UH-HUH.
Molly asks, ARE YOU LOST?
Emily sniffles.
She says, YEAH.
Molly says, COME ON, I'LL TAKE YOU BACK
TO KINDERGARTEN.
She smiles and offers Emily her hand. Emily takes Molly’s hands. Emily walks through the halls with the group of friends.
Molly says, THE FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN
CAN BE ROUGH.
Rattles says, OH, YEAH.
I REMEMBER MY FIRST DAY, I GOT
GLUE IN MY HAIR.
Skink says, THAT'S NOTHING, I LOST MY
BACKPACK AND THEN I RIPPED MY
PANTS.
Emily says, I SPILLED PAINT AND GOT IT
ALL OVER ME.
Molly says, OH, THAT'S WHAT THAT IS.
I JUST THOUGHT YOU WERE ROCKING
A PUNK LOOK.
Emily says, HUH?
Rattles says, IT'S A COMPLIMENT.
Molly says, LET'S GET YOU BACK TO THE
BATHROOM AND GET YOU CLEANED UP.
She takes Emily to the bathroom. Rattles and Slink wait in the hall. Muffy speaks with kindergarten teacher Ms. Velez.
She says, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
ONE MINUTE SHE WAS RIGHT THERE
AND THE NEXT SHE WAS GONE!
Molly says, MS. VELEZ, I THINK I FOUND
ONE OF YOUR STUDENTS.
Emily stands with the older students in the classroom doorway.
Muffy says, EMILY, I'M SO, SO SORRY!
She kneels and puts her hands on Emily’s shoulders.
Muffy says, I THOUGHT YOU WERE BEHIND ME AND
THEN YOU WEREN'T, AND…
She sighs.
She says, I GUESS I JUST WASN'T PAYING
ATTENTION.
Emily says, HMPH.
She ignores Muffy and walks away.
Ms. Velez says, THANKS, MOLLY.
She leads Emily into the classroom.
Muffy says, I'LL MAKE IT UP TO YOU.
She waves.
She says, I CAN TAKE YOU SHOPPING LATER.
She turns to Molly and her friends, who look annoyed.
Muffy says, I'M HER BIG BUDDY.
Molly says, REALLY?
WOW, LUCKY EMILY.
BET SHE'S REALLY LOOKING FORWARD
TO BEING ABANDONED AT THE MALL.
Muffy gasps.
She says, I'D NEVER DO THAT!
THAT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT.
Rattles says, AN ACCIDENT THAT MIGHT HAVE
RUINED SOMEONE'S VERY FIRST DAY
OF SCHOOL.
Molly says, MAYBE YOU SHOULD STICK TO
BEING TAKEN CARE OF.
Muffy gasps.
Molly says, YOU'RE NOT BIG BUDDY MATERIAL.
Muffy gasps dramatically as Molly, Rattles and Slink leave. Muffy looks at Emily, sitting with Ms. Velez. Emily looks angry. Muffy gulps. Elsewhere, Buster stands behind a bookshelf.
He says, LEWIS CARROL, E.E. CUMMINGS,
EMILY DICKINSON.
Buster gasps.
He says, OOH,
ODE TO THE DONUT
BY DONNY
DONMEYER!
Samir kneels on the other side of the bookshelf in the school library.
Buster says, HEY, THIS LOOKS REALLY GOOD.
Samir says, BUSTER, WE DON'T HAVE TIME.
WE HAVE TO BE BACK IN CLASS IN
FIVE MINUTES.
Buster says, RIGHT, I'LL CHECK IT OUT
LATER.
Buster and Samir search the shelves.
Buster says, AH, HERE WE GO.
THE COLLECTED POEMS OF JOHN
DONNE.
He opens the book of poems.
He asks, WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR?
Samir says, SOME SIGN OR CLUE.
TRY GOING TO THAT POEM YOUR
FRIEND WAS TALKING ABOUT.
Buster says, GOOD IDEA.
"NO MAN IS AN ISLAND," HERE WE
GO.
BINGO!
He takes a folded note out of the book.
He reads, "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE
PASSED THE SECOND TEST."
Samir cheers, YES!
Buster laughs.
He says, I HAD NO IDEA TESTS COULD BE
SO MUCH FUN!
He hands the note to Samir and returns the book to the shelf. Samir unfolds the note.
He reads, "THIS OLD WORK EARNS RESPECT!
ONLY FEW PROSPER AFTER ITS
NOWLEDGE."
Each word in the note is written on a single line, creating a stack of words rather than a regular sentence. The first letter of each word is capitalized.
Buster asks, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Samir says, I HAVE NO IDEA, BUT WE DO
KNOW ONE THING.
Buster asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Samir says, WHOEVER WROTE THIS ISN'T A
VERY GOOD SPELLER.
LOOK, THEY WROTE "KNOWLEDGE"
WITHOUT THE K.
Buster says, HM, SO WE'RE LOOKING FOR A
BAD SPELLER.
He scratches his chin. He gasps.
He says, I KNOW WHO IT IS!
Samir asks, WHO?
Buster says, ME, I'M AWFUL AT SPELLING!
He pauses.
He says, WAIT, IT CAN'T BE ME.
IF IT WAS I'D UNDERSTAND THIS
CLUE.
Samir thoughtful.
He says, UNLESS SOMEONE IS CONTROLLING
YOUR MIND, MAKING YOU DO THINGS,
AND THEN ERASING YOUR MEMORY.
Buster says, I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK,
SAMIR.
Samir says, OH, WE BETTER HURRY!
WE ONLY HAVE TWO MORE MINUTES!
Buster and Samir run out of the library. In a hallway, Alex pulls a book out of his locker.
He says, HERE'S BOOK ONE.
He hands Arthur the book.
Arthur says, THE DIZZYING DIMENSION.
Alex says, IT'S WHERE CALEB AND SAM
FIRST JUMP THROUGH THE PORTAL
TOGETHER.
Arthur says, THANKS, I CAN'T WAIT TO
START IT.
He reads a page in the book.
He reads, "TWISTING AND TURNING, HEAD OVER
FEET.
NO MATTER HOW THEY TRIED TO HOLD
ONTO ONE ANOTHER, IT WAS JUST NO
USE."
Alex closes his locker.
He says, SEE YOU INSIDE.
Arthur says, HUH?
YEAH, I'M COMING!
He slowly follows Alex while reading the book.
Buster yells, ACTIVATING THRUSTERS!
Behind Arthur, Buster and Samir run through the hall with their arms spread like wings. They imitate engine noises as they run past Arthur.
Arthur says, HEY, BUSTER, CHECK IT OUT!
I GOT THE –
Samir says, ENGAGING WARP DRIVE!
Buster follows Samir into their classroom. The friends laugh.
(Throat clearing)
Mr. Ratburn looks at his watch.
He says, ARTHUR, CARE TO JOIN US?
Arthur says, OH, SORRY!
He runs into the classroom. He glances behind him. Outside, the kindergarten class plays on a playset. D.W. plays in the sand with her classmate Ryan, and a classmate wearing a purple shirt.
She says, FIRST, YOU PUT IN SAND.
THEN YOU ADD ROCKS…
D.W. adds rocks to a bucket of sand. Her classmates watch closely.
D.W. says, …BUT THEY
HAVE TO BE SHINY.
The classmate wearing a purple shirt nods.
D.W. says, THEN MORE SAND, THEN SOME
LEAVES, A LITTLE MORE SAND,
WATER.
She pours water over the sand, rocks and leaves in the bucket.
D.W. says, GIVE IT A SHAKE, TURN IT UPSIDE
DOWN, AND VOILA!
She reveals her creation.
She says, TRIPLE-LAYER MUD CAKE.
Ryan yells, DW MADE TRIPLE-LAYER MUD
CAKE!
The classmate wearing the purple shirt says, IT'S NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!
D.W. stands.
She says, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
She takes a bow.
She says, NOW, EMILY USUALLY MAKES A MUD
FROSTING.
HEY, WHERE IS EMILY?
The classmate in the purple shirt asks, WHO'S EMILY?
D.W. says, HER!
She points to Emily, who’s sitting on a merry-go-round. Emily struggles to get a straw in a juice box.
Ryan says, OH, YOU MEAN LIVER GIRL?
He giggles.
D.W. says, HEY, DON'T CALL HER THAT!
SHE'S MY FRIEND!
Ryan says, SORRY.
D.W. says, AND IT ISN'T LIVER, IT'S
PATE, AND I LOVE IT!
Ryan says, I LOVE IT, TOO.
The classmate in the purple shirt asks, CAN YOU GET US SOME?
Emily gets the straw in her juice box, but juice sprays out and on her face.
She says, PERFECT.
D.W. says, HERE.
She hands Emily a napkin.
Emily says, THANKS.
She wipes juice off her face.
D.W. says, I WAS JUST SHOWING THESE
KIDS HOW TO MAKE TRIPLE-LAYER
MUD CAKE.
DO YOU WANT TO COME OVER AND DO
THE FROSTING?
Emily says, NOT RIGHT NOW.
D.W., I DON'T THINK I'M READY FOR
KINDERGARTEN.
D.W. sits on the merry-go-round with Emily.
She says, SURE YOU ARE.
Emily says, BUT EVERYTHING HAS GONE
WRONG!
IF THIS IS WHAT THE FIRST DAY IS
LIKE, WHAT WILL TOMORROW BE
LIKE?
Emily imagines herself in the kindergarten classroom with a drawing and a blue crayon. She drops the crayon. It rolls off the table and into a truck that hits a toy and launches a toy block into a shelf, knocking it loose. Buckets of paint fall off the shelf and onto Emily’s table. Emily screams as paint splashes everywhere.
Ryan says, AH, IT'S ON ME!
The classmate wearing the purple shirt says, SHE DID IT AGAIN!
The loose shelf falls and hits a rabbit cage. The cage opens and the rabbits escape.
(Kids screaming)
Covered in paint, the kindergartners run frantically through the room.
Ryan says, GET AWAY FROM HER!
Ms. Velez says, IT'S OKAY, IT'S OKAY.
She runs to Emily’s side.
She says, IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT, ESME.
Emily screams, IT'S EMILY!
(Gasping)
The room shakes. Outside, the entire school shakes. The wall of the kindergarten classroom falls.
(Gasping)
Emily says, OH, NO!
D.W. says, SHE DIDN'T MEAN TO DO THAT!
In reality, Emily says, KINDERGARTEN IS TOO HARD FOR
ME.
MAYBE I SHOULD JUST STAY
HOME.
D.W. asks, HOW WILL YOU LEARN ANYTHING?
Emily says, I DON'T NEED TO LEARN
ANYTHING.
I KNOW MOST OF THE ALPHABET AND
ALL THE NUMBERS UP TO SEVEN.
THAT'S PLENTY.
D.W. says, EMILY, KINDERGARTEN WILL GET
EASIER.
IF ARTHUR MADE IT THROUGH, YOU
CAN.
Emily says, HOW CAN YOU BE SURE?
D.W. says, I JUST AM.
She pulls out her mini unicorn toy.
She says, HERE.
Emily gasps.
She says, YOU'RE GIVING ME MINI UNI?
SHE WHO HAS THE POWER OF ALL THE
LOVE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD AND CAN
USE IT TO GRANT A CHILD A SINGLE
WISH?
D.W. nods.
Emily says, D.W., I CAN'T.
D.W. says, TAKE IT.
CHOOSE YOUR WISH WISELY.
Emily smiles. She nods and looks down at the Mini Uni. In Mr. Ratburn’s classroom, Muffy returns to her seat.
Francine asks, WHY WEREN'T YOU AT LUNCH?
Muffy eats a banana.
She says, OH, EMILY AND I WERE HAVING
SO MUCH FUN, I JUST LOST TRACK
OF TIME.
DID YOU GET A TATTOO?
Muffy glances at Francine’s hand where there’s a red letter T. Francine sighs.
She says, TOMMY TIBBLE DREW IT ON ME
WHEN WE WERE PLAYING COW.
NOW IT WON'T COME OFF.
Francine tries rubbing the letter.
She says, YOU SURE LUCKED OUT WITH THE
LITTLE BUDDY YOU GOT.
Muffy gulps as she finishes her banana.
She says, MM-HM.
COULD YOU THROW THIS OUT FOR ME?
Francine throws Muffy’s banana peel in a trash can.
Francine asks, WHAT'D YOU TWO WIND UP
DOING?
Muffy says, OH, IT WAS GREAT.
I SHOWED HER THE SCHOOL LIBRARY
AND THE NEW COMPUTERS, AND WE
MADE A PICTURE, AND THEN I LOST
HER, AND THEN WE MADE A DATE TO
GO SHOPPING.
Francine says, WAIT, YOU LOST HER?
Muffy says, JUST FOR A TINY BIT, LIKE 15
MINUTES, BUT I'M GOING TO MAKE
IT UP TO HER.
Francine says, WOW, IF FOURTH GRADE IS ALL
ABOUT RESPONSIBILITY, THEN I
THINK YOU JUST FLUNKED.
Mr. Ratburn says, OKAY, CLASS, LET'S HEAR YOUR
REPORTS ON THE SUMMER READING.
BINKY?
Binky walks up to the front of the class with his report.
He says, PETER PAN,
BY J.M. BARRIE.
PETER PAN IS A STORY ABOUT A BOY
WHO DOESN'T WANT TO GROW UP, AND
HE TRIES TO GET OTHER KIDS TO
FOLLOW HIM TO NEVERLAND SO THEY
CAN NEVER GROW UP EITHER.
Muffy imagines Emily sleeping.
Muffy says, EMILY, AWAKE!
Muffy is dressed like Peter Pan. She flies above Emily’s bed.
Muffy says, IT IS I, MUFFY PAN, YOUR BIG
BUDDY!
Emily says, WOW, YOU CAN FLY!
Muffy Pan says, YUP, AND I'M HERE TO TAKE
YOU TO NEVERLAND, A PLACE WHERE
YOU NEVER EVER HAVE TO GROW UP.
Emily says, YAY!
She jumps on her bed.
She says, WAIT, BUT DON'T I WANT TO GROW
UP?
IF I NEVER GROW UP, THEN I'LL
NEVER BE ABLE TO DRIVE A CAR.
Muffy Pan says, WHO WANTS TO DRIVE A CAR WHEN
YOU CAN DO THIS!
She flies around Emily’s room. Emily giggles.
Muffy Pan says, PLUS, GROWING UP MEANS “BEING
RESPONSIBLE”, AND TRUST ME, IT'S
TOO HARD.
BEING DEPENDABLE, CARING FOR
OTHER PEOPLE.
AH, WHO HAS THE TIME?
Emily says, OKAY, YOU'VE CONVINCED ME.
TEACH ME HOW TO FLY.
Muffy Pan says, IT'S EASY.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS THINK
GOOD THOUGHTS.
Emily closes her eyes.
She says, CHOCOLATE CAKE, CHOCOLATE
CAKE, CHOCOLATE CAKE.
Muffy Pan says, AND THEN WE JUST SPRINKLE
YOU WITH A LITTLE PIXIE DUST.
OH, TINKERBAILEY!
Muffy’s butler Bailey, as Tinker Bailey, sprinkles pixie dust over Emily, then disappears.
Muffy says, PERFECT, NOW YOU'RE READY!
Emily flies. She gasps, then laughs.
She says, THIS IS AMAZING!
She flies around her room.
Muffy says, OFF WE GO TO NEVERLAND!
Emily squeals as she flies out of her room after Muffy Pan.
In the sky, Emily asks, WHERE IS NEVERLAND?
Muffy Pan says, BEATS ME.
LEARNING DIRECTIONS IS VERY
GROWN UP.
I JUST USE AN APP.
Muffy Pan looks at a smart device.
She says, FIND NEVERLAND.
The phone beeps and says, TURN RIGHT HERE.
Muffy Pan and Emily turn down a street. They fly up into the clouds in the night sky.
Muffy Pan says, THERE IT IS!
Emily says, WOW!
They fly above an island.
Muffy Pan says, AND THE BEST PART IS, YOU'LL
REMAIN THE SAME AGE YOU ARE
FOREVER!
She flies through the clouds.
She says, I'VE BEEN IN THE FOURTH GRADE
FOR OVER 500 YEARS.
THAT'S EVEN LONGER THAN BINKY.
Muffy Pan pauses and looks behind her.
She says, EMILY?
WHERE'D YOU GO?
(Shouting)
(Dramatic music plays)
A pirate ship is in the water below.
Muffy Pan says, OH, NO, THE PIRATES HAVE HER!
She flies onto the ship. On the ship, Molly, Rattles and Slink as pirates, laugh.
Muffy Pan demands, HAND HER OVER!
Rattles says, HAND WHO OVER?
Muffy Pan says, EMILY, MY LITTLE BUDDY.
Molly says, HEY, EM, SOMEONE HERE TO SEE
YOU.
Molly steps aside and reveals Emily with a sandwich.
Muffy Pan says, EMILY, DON'T BE AFRAID, I'M
HERE TO RESCUE YOU.
Emily says, OH, UM, THAT'S OKAY, I'M
GOOD.
Muffy Pan says, WHAT?
Emily says, IT'S JUST THAT I FEEL SAFER
WITH THE PIRATES.
Muffy Pan says, BUT THEY'RE PIRATES!
Rattles says, WE PREFER THE TERM
"BUCCANEERS."
Emily says, AT LEAST THEY DON'T LOSE ME
LIKE YOU DO.
Muffy Pan says, THAT WAS AN ACCIDENT.
Emily says, I'M SORRY, MUFFY, BUT YOU'RE
JUST TOO IRRESPONSIBLE FOR ME.
Muffy Pan gasps.
Emily offers, SANDWICH?
Rattles says, THANKS, EM.
NORMALLY I MAKE THE SANDWICHES,
BUT THE CROCODILE TOOK MY
CONDIMENT SPREADING HAND.
Rattle has tongs as a hand. Slink takes a bite of his sandwich.
He says, MM, PATE.
Muffy Pan says, BUT I CAN BE RESPONSIBLE!
I CAN!
She cries.
Molly says, OH, GROW UP, MUFFY PAN.
She tosses Muffy Pan a tissue. Muffy Pan blows her nose loudly. The pirates laugh as they leave with Emily. In reality, Binky continues his report.
He says, AND THEN WENDY RETURNS TO
THE REAL WORLD, AND THEY ALL
LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
THE END.
Muffy says, THAT'S THE SADDEST STORY
EVER.
Binky says, REALLY?
I THOUGHT IT WAS A COMEDY.
He walks past Muffy and Francine’s desk pod. Muffy frowns. A clock reads, 2:00. Muffy walks up to Mr. Ratburn’s desk with her paper of information on Emily.
She says, MR. RATBURN, I,
I HAVE TO RESIGN FROM BEING A
BIG BUDDY.
Mr. Ratburn says, REALLY?
WHY?
Muffy says, I TOOK EMILY ON A TOUR
EARLIER AND I LOST HER.
She hands Mr. Ratburn the paper.
Mr. Ratburn says, OH, DEAR.
Muffy says, I DON'T THINK I'M READY FOR
THIS RESPONSIBILITY.
MAYBE I'M NOT READY FOR ANY
RESPONSIBILITIES.
Mr. Ratburn says, I DISAGREE, I THINK YOU
COULD BE AN EXCELLENT BIG BUDDY.
He hands Muffy a handkerchief.
Muffy says, BUT…
She blows her nose loudly.
She says, …WHY?
Mr. Ratburn says, BECAUSE WHAT YOU'RE DOING
RIGHT NOW IS RESPONSIBLE.
YOU'VE COME TO ME FOR HELP.
He slides Emily’s information back toward Muffy.
He adds, NO ONE GETS EVERYTHING RIGHT THE
FIRST TIME.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO KEEP
TRYING.
Muffy says, OKAY.
Mr. Ratburn says, MAYBE THERE'S A WAY TO SHOW
EMILY THAT YOU CAN BE THERE FOR
HER WHEN SHE NEEDS YOU.
Muffy says, HM, I WONDER.
THANKS, MR. RATBURN.
I'LL GIVE IT ANOTHER SHOT.
Muffy offers Mr. Ratburn his handkerchief.
Mr. Ratburn says, YOU CAN KEEP THAT.
NOW, BETTER HURRY, YOU DON'T
WANT TO BE LATE FOR ART CLASS.
Muffy leaves, smiling. Arthur’s class passes Buster’s in the art room doorway.
Buster says, ARTHUR!
Arthur says, BUSTER, HOW'S IT GOING?
Buster says, GREAT, I KNOW WE SAID WE'D
MEET AFTER SCHOOL, BUT I MIGHT
BE A LITTLE LATE.
Arthur says, OH.
Buster says, SAMIR AND I PASSED THE
SECOND TEST AND FOUND ANOTHER
CLUE.
He continues down the hall with his class.
Arthur says, UM, GREAT...
He joins the rest of his class in the art room. The class stands around a pottery wheel with their art teacher. Arthur wears an apron. He powers on the wheel and starts to mold clay into a circular shape as it spins. Arthur stares at the spinning clay. The clay becomes a portal as Arthur imagines himself and Buster in The Dimension of Darkness book. Buster wears his lucky jester’s hat.
Arthur says, BUSTER, WE DID IT!
WE CREATED A PORTAL INTO ANOTHER
DIMENSION.
Buster says, WHO KNOWS WHERE IT MIGHT TAKE
US?
Arthur asks, ARE YOU READY?
Buster says, I WAS BORN READY!
Arthur takes Buster’s hand. They get ready to jump into the portal.
Buster says, WAIT, DID YOU BRING YOUR LUCKY
PENCIL?
Arthur checks his pockets.
He says, I FORGOT IT AGAIN!
Buster says, I TOLD YOU, JUST TIE A STRING
TO IT AND WEAR IT AROUND YOUR
NECK!
Arthur says, I WILL, I WILL!
Buster says, IT'S OKAY, I BROUGHT THIS!
He pulls his lucky horseshoe from under his sweater that he wears around his neck. Arthur takes Buster’s hand.
Together, the friends count, ONE, TWO, THREE!
The friends jump into the portal. They scream as they’re thrown around. Buster loses his lucky hat and horseshoe.
Arthur says, YOU'VE GOT TO HOLD ON!
Arthur and Buster start to lose their grip on each other.
Buster says, I'M TRYING!
Arthur calls, BUSTER!
The friends lose their grip and they’re thrown into different universes. Arthur lands in a forest with a grunt. Buster’s lucky horseshoe necklace lands beside him.
Arthur says, BUSTER?
He picks up the horseshoe and spots an elderly aardvark sitting on a bench by a lake. Arthur joins them.
He says, HI, UM, COULD YOU TELL ME WHERE
I AM?
The aardvark says, MIRROROPOLIS, A WORLD WHERE
YOU CAN MEET YOURSELF AT
DIFFERENT AGES.
I'M THE 86-YEAR-OLD YOU.
Young Arthur says, OH, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Elderly Arthur says, YES, I'D SAY NICE TO MEET YOU
TOO, BUT I'VE ALREADY MET YOU 77
YEARS AGO.
He chuckles.
He says, SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY.
SIT, SIT.
Young Arthur sits on the bench beside Elderly Arthur.
Elderly Arthur asks, WANT HALF OF MY TUNA FISH
SANDWICH?
Young Arthur says, I DON'T LIKE TUNA FISH.
Elderly Arthur says, YOU WILL ONE DAY.
Young Arthur looks at the lucky horseshoe.
He asks, HAVE YOU SEEN BUSTER
ANYWHERE?
Elderly Arthur says, WHO?
Young Arthur says, BUSTER, YOU KNOW, OUR BEST
FRIEND, THE BUNNY.
Elderly Arthur says, OH, THERE IS ONE BUNNY HERE.
THERE HE IS NOW.
He gestures to a bunny watching the sun set.
Young Arthur says, BUSTER, THERE YOU ARE!
He runs up to the bunny.
Young Arthur says, I WAS WORRIED CAUSE I JUST FOUND
YOUR HORSESHOE AND –
The bunny turns to face Young Arthur.
Young Arthur says, OH, YOU'RE NOT BUSTER.
The bunny says, BUSTER?
WHO'S THAT?
Elderly Arthur joins Young Arthur and the bunny.
He says, OH, I REMEMBER BUSTER.
HE WAS THAT KID WHO WAS ALWAYS
GOING ON ABOUT ALIENS.
Elderly Arthur chuckles.
Young Arthur asks, WHERE IS HE?
Elderly Arthur says, NO IDEA.
YOU TWO LOSE TOUCH AFTER THIRD
GRADE.
Young Arthur says, WHAT?
NO, WE DON'T.
I WOULDN'T LET THAT HAPPEN.
Elderly Arthur says, IT'S OKAY, YOU HAVE LOTS OF
OTHER BEST FRIENDS LIKE ALEX
HERE.
He gestures to the bunny, who waves.
Young Arthur says, BUT I DON'T WANT OTHER BEST
FRIENDS!
I WAS BUSTER!
(Squawking)
Elderly Arthur says, OH, LOOK, HERE COME THE
SWANS.
Arthur, as swans, travel down the lake. Young Arthur screams. Elderly Arthur feeds the swans parts of his sandwich.
Young Arthur says, GET ME OUT OF HERE.
He screams. In reality, Arthur looks distracted as his clay spins on the pottery wheel. Francine walks up to him.
She says, UM, ARTHUR, CAN I TAKE MY
TURN NOW?
Arthur runs down a hallway. He runs into Mrs. Grimslid’s classroom.
Arthur says, EXCUSE ME, MRS. GRIMSLID?
DO YOU KNOW WHERE BUSTER IS?
Mrs. Grimslid says, WHICH ONE IS BUSTER?
She grabs her clipboard.
Arthur says, HE HAS REALLY LONG EARS.
HE'S ALWAYS SMILING.
He looks thoughtful.
He says, HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN WEARING A
REALLY SILLY HAT THIS MORNING.
Mrs. Grimslid says, OH, THE CLASS CLOWN.
BAXTER, COMMA B, PERIOD.
HE'S WITH PATEL, COMMA S,
PERIOD.
IT'S A STUDY BREAK SO TRY THE
LIBRARY.
Arthur says, THANKS!
He runs out of the classroom and down a hallway as Buster rounds the corner.
Arthur says, BUSTER!
Samir follows Buster.
Buster says, ARTHUR, THERE YOU ARE!
WE WERE LOOKING ALL OVER FOR
YOU.
Arthur says, YOU WERE?
Buster says, I TOLD SAMIR IF THERE'S
ANYONE WHO CAN HELP US FIGURE
THIS OUT, IT'S ARTHUR.
Samir says, I'M SAMIR, HI.
He waves.
Arthur says, HI.
He waves and smiles at Samir.
Samir asks, DO YOU LIKE MAGIC?
Arthur says, UM, SURE.
Buster says, LATER, SAMIR, THIS IS MORE
IMPORTANT.
Samir says, RIGHT.
Buster hands Arthur the note from the library.
Arthur reads, "THIS OLD WORK EARNS
RESPECT!
ONLY FEW PROSPER AFTER ITS
NOWLEDGE."
He looks up at Samir and Buster and says, HUH?
Buster says, ALL WE KNOW IS THAT WHOEVER
WROTE THIS IS A BAD SPELLER.
Arthur says, I'LL SAY, UNLESS THEY DID
THAT ON PURPOSE, AND I WONDER
WHY THE WORDS ARE WRITTEN THIS
WAY AND NOT ACROSS.
Samir says, YEAH, LOOK THE FIRST LETTER
OF EVERY WORD LINES UP.
Buster says, MAYBE IT'S SPELLS SOMETHING?
Arthur says, T-O-W…
Buster continues, …E-R-O-F-P-A –
He gasps.
He says, TOWER OF PAIN!
Samir asks, WHAT'S THAT?
Buster says, IT'S WHAT WE CALL THE TOP OF
THE JUNGLE GYM.
SEE, I TOLD YOU ARTHUR WOULD
HELP US.
COME ON, LET'S CHECK IT OUT.
Buster and Samir take off running with the note.
Alex calls, ARTHUR!
He walks toward Arthur.
He asks, WANT TO GO TO RECESS
WITH ME?
Arthur says, UH...
He glances at Buster and Samir running toward a set of doors.
Arthur says, UH...
He looks from Buster and Samir to Alex.
Buster says, HEY!
He pauses at the doors with Samir.
Buster says, YOU'RE COMING WITH US
RIGHT?
Arthur says, YES!
He turns to Alex and says, HEY, WANT TO COME WITH US TO
INVESTIGATE A REALLY COOL
MYSTERY?
Alex says, SURE.
Arthur says, I'LL EXPLAIN ALONG THE WAY.
He and Alex run outside after Buster and Samir. In the kindergarten room, Emily holds Mini Uni at her table.
D.W. says, WELL, DID YOU MAKE YOUR WISH
YET?
Emily says, NOT YET.
D.W. says, YOU BETTER DO IT SOON.
I'M GONNA NEED THAT BACK AT SOME
POINT.
Emily says, OKAY, I'M WISHING.
She closes her eyes.
She says, I WISH FOR –
D.W. says, SHHH!
NOT OUT LOUD.
IT HAS TO BE A SECRET.
Emily says, OKAY.
She glances at a group of her classmates laughing. She looks at a classmate joining a pair of classmates reading a book together.
The student says, OH!
Emily closes her eyes. She opens them.
She says, DONE.
THANKS.
She hands D.W. the mini unicorn.
D.W. asks, WHAT DID YOU WISH FOR?
Emily says, JUST THAT I –
D.W. says, WAIT! YOU CAN'T TELL ME.
YOU HAVE TO KEEP IT A SECRET
UNTIL IT COMES TRUE.
Emily says, THEN WHY DID YOU ASK ME?
D.W. says, SORRY, I FORGOT.
SHHHHHH.
She puts her finger to her lip.
She says, MAY THE POWER OF UNI BE WITH
YOU.
Emily and D.W. leave the table. Emily walks up to Timmy and a classmate wearing a pink dress playing with pink clay.
She says, HI, I'M EMILY.
The classmate in the pink dress makes a bunny out of clay.
She says, HI.
She and Timmy laugh when the bunny’s head nearly falls off. Emily frowns and walks away. She tries a table with two of her classmates playing with toy blocks.
Emily says, HI.
CAN I JOIN IN?
(Siren)
A fire truck drives past the classroom window. The student in the blue shirt gasps.
He says, LOOK, A FIRE ENGINE!
He points to the fire truck and the other classmate looks out the window. Emily sighs. She leaves. In the hallway, Muffy runs up to Sue Ellen at her locker.
Muffy says, SUE ELLEN, DO YOU KNOW WHAT
TIME KINDERGARTEN GETS OUT?
Sue Ellen says, UH, 2:30, IN 15 MINUTES.
Muffy gasps. She groans, runs down the hallway and into the library. All the computers are taken. Muffy runs up to the first computer where a student wearing a black shirt sits≥
Muffy asks, DO YOU MIND IF I JUST PRINT
SOMETHING REAL QUICK?
The student says, I'LL BE THROUGH IN A FEW
MINUTES.
He turns back to the computer.
Muffy says, PRETTY PLEASE?
The student shakes his head. Muffy groans. Outside, Binky plays with a toy on top of the playset. Buster, Arthur, Samir and Alex walk up. Buster starts to climb the playset.
Binky says, UH-UH-UH, WHAT'S THE
PASSWORD?
Arthur tries, PLEASE?
Binky says, NOPE.
Buster says, SAUERKRAUT.
Alex says, ABRACADABRA.
Arthur says, POPSICLE.
Binky says, NO, NO, NO.
Buster says, HOOLA-BOOLA WIKI-TIKI WOW!
Binky says, WIKI-TIKI WHAT?
WHERE'D YOU GET THAT FROM?
Samir looks thoughtful.
He says, JACK OF DIAMONDS?
Buster says, THAT WAS MY CARD!
Samir says, NO WAY, I JUST GUESSED!
Buster laughs.
He says, HEY, YOU'RE A BETTER MAGICIAN
THAN YOU KNOW.
Binky says, ACTUALLY, THERE IS NO
PASSWORD.
I WAS JUST PULLING YOUR CHAIN.
COME ON UP.
Buster, Arthur and their friends climb up the playset. They look around.
Arthur says, THERE'S NOTHING HERE.
Binky asks, LOOKING FOR THIS?
He holds up an envelope.
(Gasps)
Binky says, I FOUND IT ON THE GROUND.
He hands the envelope to Arthur.
He says, EVEN THOUGH I PUT UP THIS NO
LITTERING SIGN.
Binky points to a handmade sign.
He says, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT WITH YOU.
He rides a slide down the playset. Arthur takes a note out of the envelope.
He reads, "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE
PASSED THE THIRD TEST.
HERE IS YOUR FINAL CLUE."
A red X is marked on a map on the note.
Samir says, IT'S A MAP, BUT TO WHAT?
Alex says, WAIT, THIS LOOKS LIKE A
PLAYGROUND.
Arthur says, I THINK THIS IS A MAP OF THE
SCHOOL.
AND THE X IS RIGHT HERE.
THAT LOOKS LIKE IT'S NEAR THE
CAFETERIA.
Buster says, COME ON, LET'S GO.
The group of friends ride down the slide. In the library, the student wearing the black shirt types slowly on the computer.
Muffy says, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!
JUST LET ME PRINT ONE THING!
I HAVE TO PROVE TO EMILY THAT I
CAN BE A GOOD BIG BUDDY.
The student sighs but leaves.
Muffy says, THANK YOU!
HERE, THAT'S GOOD FOR ONE FREE
OIL CHANGE AT CROSSWIRE MOTORS!
She hands the student a card from Crosswire Motors that reads, Free Oil Change! Muffy logs into the computer. She prints the picture of her and Emily. A light flashes on the printer.
The printer says, PRINTER JAM, PRINTER JAM,
PRINTER JAM.
Muffy says, PRINTER JAM!?
She screams and pulls on her braids. In the halls, Alex looks at the map as he walks with the group of friends. They turn a corner.
Buster says, IT'S OVER THIS WAY!
The friends run toward a janitors closet.
Alex says, I THINK THIS IS IT.
Buster and Arthur walk up to the door. Arthur puts his hand on the door knob.
He asks, READY?
Buster says, I WAS BORN READY.
Samir gives a thumbs up. Arthur opens the door. Three mysterious figures wear hoods over their eyes. They stand behind a lava lamp that lights the dark room. The group of friends gasp. The mysterious figures speak with gravely voices.
The middle figure says, CONGRATULATIONS.
YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TRIAL.
The figure to the right says, HERE IS YOUR REWARD.
Buster accepts an apple.
He says, THAT'S IT?
AN APPLE?
Samir says, MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING
INSIDE THE APPLE.
The figure to the left says, NO, THERE'S NOTHING INSIDE
THE APPLE.
IT'S JUST AN APPLE.
The figure to the right speaks normally.
He says, IT'S A GOLDEN DELICIOUS.
THEY'RE VERY SWEET.
The middle figure speaks normally.
He says, HEY, YOU'RE NOT USING YOUR
VOICE.
The figure to the right says, OH, RIGHT.
He uses a gravelly voice to say, SORRY!
Arthur says, WAIT A MINUTE, I KNOW THAT
VOICE.
He pushes back the hood of the middle figure, revealing Rattles.
Rattles says, THE JIG IS UP.
Molly and Slink reveal themselves. Samir turns on the light.
Buster says, WHAT?
I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
WHAT WAS THIS ALL ABOUT?
Rattles says, WHEN I GOT TO FOURTH, I
DIDN'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS AT
FIRST, IT ACTUALLY TOOK ME A
LONG TIME TO MEET PEOPLE I
LIKED.
Molly says, ME, TOO.
Rattles says, SO, I DECIDED TO SEND WHOEVER
SAT AT MY DESK AND THE PERSON
BESIDE THEM ON A LITTLE
ADVENTURE.
Molly says, THUS BEGAN PROJECT
ICEBREAKER.
Rattles says, IT WAS JUST A WAY FOR A
COUPLE OF NEOPHYTES TO GET TO
KNOW EACH OTHER BETTER.
Slink chuckles.
He says, BUNCH OF SLIMY NEOPHYTES.
Rattles says, UGH, IT'S NOT A WORM, SLINK!
NEOPHYTE JUST BEEN SOMEONE WHO
IS NEW AT SOMETHING.
Slink says, OH.
Buster says, YOU KNOW I THINK PROJECT
ICEBREAKER ACTUALLY WORKED.
Samir says, YEAH.
Alex says, IT DID.
Arthur says, THANKS.
Molly, Rattles and Slink smile. Outside the kindergarten classroom, Muffy slides past the door panting. She runs in with Emily’s drawing. Ms. Velez notices Muffy run past her desk.
Muffy says, HUH?
The classroom is empty.
Muffy says, WHERE IS EVERYBODY!?
Ms. Velez says, THEY ALL JUST LEFT.
Muffy says, OH, NO!
She looks out the classroom window where she sees Emily getting in a car with her nanny. She gasps. Muffy runs outside. Emily’s nanny pulls away from the school.
Muffy says, WAIT, EMILY, WAIT!
She runs down a sidewalk alongside the car.
She calls, EMILY!
EMILY!
Emily’s nanny pulls over. Muffy pants as she catches up. She leans against Emily’s open window.
Emily says, MUFFY?
Muffy says, I JUST, I WANTED TO GIVE YOU
THIS.
She holds out a damaged copy of Emily’s computer drawing.
Emily asks, WHAT IS IT?
Muffy says, IT'S THE DRAWING YOU MADE
EARLIER.
REMEMBER, I SAID I'D PRINT IT
FOR YOU.
Emily looks at the drawing.
She says, OH, YEAH.
Muffy says, I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO
PRINT IT IN COLOR AND THEN IT
GOT JAMMED IN THE PRINTER.
SO, I HAD TO PULL IT OUT, BUT
THAT'S IT.
Emily says, THANKS.
Muffy says, EMILY, I'M SO, SO, SORRY
ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TODAY.
IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, I
PROMISE.
CAN I STILL BE YOUR BIG BUDDY?
Emily looks at the drawing. She smiles and looks back at Muffy.
Emily says, OKAY.
HEY, MY WISH CAME TRUE.
D.W. walks up the sidewalk toward Muffy and Emily with her mom.
Muffy says, YOUR WISH?
Emily says, YEAH, I WISHED ON MINI UNI THAT
I WOULD MAKE ONE NEW FRIEND
TODAY, AND I DID.
D.W. catches up with Muffy and Emily.
She says, SEE, I TOLD YOU IT WOULD
WORK.
Emily giggles. D.W. and her mom continue up the sidewalk.
Emily asks, WILL YOU TEACH ME HOW TO
BRAID MY HAIR LIKE YOURS?
IT LOOKS TRES CHIC.
Muffy says, YOU BET.
I PUT MY NUMBER ON THE BACK.
YOU CAN CALL ME ANY TIME.
Emily giggles.
She says, OKAY, SEE YOU TOMORROW.
Emily and Muffy wave as Emily leaves. Arthur and his friends walk together.
Arthur says, WOW, WHAT A FIRST
DAY, RIGHT?
Buster says, I KNOW.
TO BE HONEST, I WAS KIND OF
DREADING IT.
Samir says, ME TOO, BUT IT TURNED
OUT PRETTY GOOD.
Arthur says, YEAH, I'D EVEN SAY IT TURNED
OUT GREAT.
Samir says, HEY, ALEX, DO YOU LIKE MAGIC?
Alex says, SURE, WHO DOESN'T?
Arthur says, SAMIR, DON'T YOU THINK YOU
SHOULD PRACTICE A LITTLE FIRST?
The friends pause on a bridge.
Buster says, HEY, HE GOT MY CARD.
EVENTUALLY.
He eats the apple from their completed Project Icebreaker trial.
Samir says, NO, NO, NO.
THIS TIME I'VE GOT IT, REALLY.
PICK A CARD, ANY CARD.
Alex picks a card from Samir’s deck.
Samir says, LOOK AT IT.
Alex’s card is the Jack of spades.
Samir says, NOW, PUT IT BACK IN THE DECK.
Alex returns the card. Samir shuffles the deck and pulls out a card.
He says, TA-DA , EIGHT OF HEARTS.
Alex says, NOPE.
Samir guesses, FOUR OF CLUBS?
Alex says, SORRY.
The group of friends continue across the bridge.
Samir guesses, TWO OF CLUBS?
Alex says, KEEP TRYING.
Samir says, AW, MAN.
