A child says, WHEEE!
Colourful text reads, “tvo kids” plus “Apartment Eleven Productions,” “Original.” A purple circle with a ring attached to each side appears over “Apartment Eleven.”
[Child giggles]
[Upbeat music plays]
Lisa asks, WHAT CAN WE DO WITH
A MESSY BACKYARD ALLEY, DISCARDED
POOL NOODLES AND AN OLD TREE HOUSE?
Eric and Sigfried stand in the alley. They look up at Lisa in the tree house. They point pool noodles at Lisa.
Eric says, SURRENDER YOUR
TREASURE OR WALK THE PLANK.
Lisa points a pool noodle at Eric.
Lisa says, NOT SO FAST SUCKERS.
Eric says, ARRRRRR.
[Whoosh]
Lisa says, WE FIGHT FOR ONE GIRL’S WISH
FOR A COOL NEW PIRATE-THEMED PLAYGROUND.
Eric and Sigfried say, AW.
[Upbeat music plays]

[Upbeat music plays]
Anja says, HI, I'M ANJA I'M TEN.
WELL, I REALLY LIKE
CRAFTING AND COOKING.
SOCCER TOO AND JUST LIKE WALKS
AND LIKE THE PARK OR SOMETHING.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT MY ROOM IS
THAT IT'S REALLY COZY SO IT'S A
GREAT PLACE TO READ.
WE HAVE AN ALLEY BEHIND OUR
HOUSE AND IT'S GOT SOME GREENERY
BUT IT'S REALLY GROWN IN AND
THERE'S A LOT OF GARBAGE AND
JUST LIKE OLD BRICKS AND OLD
WOOD AND LIKE A LOT OF STUFF
THAT I THINK THAT WE CAN REUSE.
SINCE THERE'S A PIRATE SHIP IN
OUR ALLEY I THINK IT SHOULD BE
PIRATE-THEMED.
Orange text outlined with red and purple reads, “Help me fix up the alley way!”
Anja says, HEY, SQUAD.
I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD
COME AND HELP ME FIX UP THE
ALLEY WAY.
Lisa says, I LOVE THESE OLD HOUSES.
Eric, Lisa, and Sigfried walk on a shady sidewalk.
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric says, YEAH NEIGHBOURHOODS
LIKE THESE ARE GREAT YOU COULD
JUST WALK ANYWHERE.
Sigfried says, YEAH, IF YOU WANT
TO GO OUT FOR A CARTON OF MILK
YOU CAN JUST WALK OR BIKE.
[Rattling wheels]
They all say, OR SCOOTER.
HEY ANJA!
Anja stops her scooter in front of Lisa.
Lisa says, RIGHT ON TIME.
Anja high fives Eric.
[Hands slap]
Anja says, HI GUYS.
Anja leads Lisa, Sigfried, and Eric into the living room of her house. Text reads, “Hi.”
Anja’s father says, NICE TO MEET YOU GUYS.
Anja says, HI, SO, THIS IS
MY SISTER, MILA.
A red arrow points to a girl with short brown hair. Orange text reads, “Sister Mila.”
[Squeak]
Sigfried says, MILA, HELLO.
Lisa says, HI.
Anja says, THIS IS MY MOTHER, MARTHA.
A red arrow points to Martha. Blue text reads, “Mom.”
[Squeak]
Martha says, HI, WELCOME.
Sigfried says, HI, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Anja says, AND THEN THIS IS MY
DAD, JORDAN.
A blue arrow points to Jordan. Green text reads, “Dad.”
[Squeak]
Sigfried says, HI JORDAN.
Eric says, WE'RE SO EXCITED
TO BE HERE TODAY…
Sigfried says, SO EXCITED.
Eric says, …TO HELP YOU GUYS OUT.
Lisa says, LET'S GO.
Eric says, LET'S GO.
[Upbeat music plays]
Sigfried says, OH, YOU'VE MADE A MODEL.
Lisa says, OH MY GOSH, THIS IS SO CUTE.
Anja points to parts of her model.
Anja says, THIS IS ACTUALLY WHAT
I'D LIKE FOR THE ALLEY.
I'D LIKE TO PUT A ROPE NETTING.
I'D LIKE TO COVER THE GROUND
WITH WOOD CHIPS AND ALSO MAYBE
DO A TIRE SWING I WAS THINKING.
WE COULD USE SOME OF
THE WOOD FOR OUR BENCH.
USE SOME OF THE
BRICKS FOR A LITTLE PATH.
Eric says, THIS...I....
Lisa says, THIS LOOKS GREAT!
Eric says, …I'M MIND BLOWN.
Anja leads Lisa, Eric, and Sigfried to the alley.
Anja says, SO, THIS IS THE ALLEY WHICH
WE'RE GONNA BE RENOVATING.
PART OF MY VISION IS TO CLEAN
UP THE PIRATE SHIP, FIX IT UP A
BIT, MAYBE FIND SOMETHING
TO GET RID OF THE GRAFFITI.
I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS WE CAN
DO IS ORGANIZE LIKE WHAT CAN BE
USED AND WHAT CAN'T BE AND
IT CAN BE REUSED.
Sigfried says, OKAY.
Lisa says, SURE, LIKE EVEN THE
WOOD BE GREAT TO BE USED AGAIN.
Anja says, LIKE, I WAS THINKING
THE BRICKS.
Lisa says, THAT TOO.
Sigfried says, THAT'S A GREAT IDEA.
Lisa suggests, LIKE A COMMUNITY CLEAN UP.
Anja says, YES, THAT WOULD BE REALLY GREAT.
Eric says, COMMUNITY CLEAN UP
INTO A PIRATE PLAYGROUND.
Anja says, YEAH.
ANOTHER THING WE COULD DO IS,
LIKE, WE COULD ASK PEOPLE TO
DONATE OR....
Sigfried says, RIGHT, TO GET
INVOLVED AND HELP OUT.
Anja says, TO GET INVOLVED, YEAH.
Sigfried says, COOL.
Lisa says, YEAH, THEY CAN DONATE
SOME OLD FURNITURE OR ITEMS
THAT THEY HAVE.
Anja says, YEAH, LIKE...
Eric says, BUT, EVEN THE THINGS
THAT THEY WOULD BE THROWING
OUT, RIGHT...
Anja says, YEAH...REUSE.
Eric says, …WE CAN LIKE
REUSE THAT.
Anja says, SO, ACTUALLY THIS SPACE
BELONGS TO THESE GUYS OVER HERE.
THAT IS A CAR DEALERSHIP.
SO, WE'LL HAVE TO ASK THEM.
Sigfried says, I THINK THEY
WILL PROBABLY SAY YES.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Amja says, I HOPE SO.
Sigfried says, YEAH.
[Upbeat music plays]
Sigfried, Lisa, Anja, and Eric pose together.
An electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD
In Anja’s house, Anja and Sigfried sit at a table with clipboards in front of them.
Sigfried asks, SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK
ABOUT ASKING SOME OF THE NEIGHBOURS
FOR STUFF THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE?
Anja says, SO, BASICALLY, ASK
THEM FOR LIKE SUPPORT.
Sigfried says, YEAH.
[Doorbell rings]
Sigfried says, EVEN SOME STUFF
THAT THEY WERE GOING TO THROW
AWAY THAT WE CAN SORT OF REUSE.
Sigfried and Anja stand on a porch. A man opens a door.
Sigfried says, HI.
The man says, HI.
Sigfried says, I'M SIGFRIED AND THIS IS ANJA,
AS YOU KNOW, AND SHE HAS AN IDEA.
SO, WHY DON'T YOU EXPLAIN IT ANJA.
An aerial view shows a row of houses. Pink text by a house highlighted with pink reads, “Anja’s house.” A green line shows the alley.
[Beeping]
Anja says, YOU KNOW HOW PART
OF THE ALLEY THAT'S RIGHT NEXT
TO THE BUILDING?
On the aerial view, the building is highlighted with yellow. Yellow text reads, “Car Dealership.”
[Beeping]
The man says, YES.
Anja says, THIS AREA ACTUALLY
BELONGS TO THE GUYS
WHO RUN THE CAR
DEALERSHIP THAT'S
RIGHT THERE.
SO, WE NEED THEM TO GIVE US
PERMISSION TO WORK ON THIS SITE.
Sigfried says, SO, WHAT WE ARE
ASKING FROM YOU GUYS IS TO GIVE
US SORT OF A LETTER OF SUPPORT
THAT WE CAN SHOW THEM.
[Ding]
The man says, I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA.
Sigfried and Anja walk past cars towards a tall glass building.
[Upbeat music continues]
Anja says, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT
TO GO TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP
BECAUSE, WELL, THIS LAND IS THEIRS
SO WE CAN GET IN A LOT OF TROUBLE
IF WE BUILD ON IT WITHOUT
THEIR PERMISSION.
A man with short hair says, HELLO, HELLO.
Sigfried says, HI, SO, I'M SIGFRIED
AND THIS IS ANJA.
A red arrow points to the man with short hair. Light orange text reads, “David.” Purple text beneath that reads, “Dealership owner.”
David says, ANJA, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Sigfried says, ANJA HAS A REALLY
GREAT IDEA THAT SHE WANTS
TO PRESENT TO YOU.
Green text by the alley in the aerial view reads, “Pirate Playground.”
Anja says, SO, ACTUALLY THERE'S
AN AREA IN THE ALLEY RIGHT
BEHIND THIS BUILDING THAT DOESN'T
REALLY HAVE ANYTHING IN IT.
THERE'S A PIRATE SHIP.
WE WOULD LIKE TO JUST SORT OF
FIX IT UP AND MAKE IT NICER.
David points to Anya’s model.
David says, WAIT A MINUTE, THAT
LOOKS LIKE MY WINDOW. THE
WINDOW OF MY BUILDING THERE.
ALL RIGHT, OKAY. YES.
Sigfried says, SHE'S MADE IT VERY ACCURATE.
[Chuckling]
David says, SURE, YEAH.
Anja says, WE NEED PERMISSION TO
BUILD SINCE IT'S YOUR LAND.
Sigfried says, WE ACTUALLY GOT
LETTERS OF SUPPORT.
David says, I’M IN.
Sigfried says, YOU'RE IN?
Text beside David reads, “I’m in.”
David says, I'M IN.
Anja says, THANK YOU.
David says, IF YOU WANT A TIRE,
I HAVE AN OLD TIRE TO GIVE YOU TOO.
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja, David, and Sigfried walk in the alley. Anja rolls a tire beside her.
David says, YOU HAVE ALL THAT.
IT'S ABOUT, YOU KNOW, EIGHT FEET,
TEN FEET, OF DIRT THERE THAT
YOU CAN WORK ON.
YOU KNOW FROM HERE TO THE WALL
THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN DO THE
WORK, YEAH. THIS IS YOURS.
GO TO WORK.
David smiles. Sigfried smiles at Anja.
Anja says, THANK YOU.
Later, Anja and Sigfried sit at the table in her house.
[Upbeat music continues]
Sigfried says, SO, WHAT IF WE
HOST SOME SORT OF EVENT
FOR THE COMMUNITY TO GET
PEOPLE ACTUALLY AWARE OF
WHAT WE'RE DOING AND MAYBE
EVEN DONATIONS TO BUY NEW
PLANTS OR MATERIALS.
Anja says, I THINK WE COULD
DO LIKE SELL COOKIES AND STUFF.
Sigfried asks, LIKE, A BAKE SALE?
Anja says, YEAH.
YOU KNOW WHO'S GONNA
LOVE THAT IS LISA.
Anja says, DEFINITELY.
Sigfried says, SHE'LL BE ALL
OVER THAT. I THINK THAT'S
A BRILLIANT IDEA.
Anja says, I THINK I MAY HAVE
SOME, LKE, SKULL AND CROSS
BONE COOKIE CUTTERS SOMEWHERE.
[Sigfried laughs]
Sigfried says, WELL, YOU BETTER
TELL HER THAT BECAUSE I THINK
SHE'S GONNA LOVE THAT.
Later, Sigfried and Anja look at their future playground in the alley. Lisa approaches.
Lisa says, HEY. HOW'S IT GOING?
Sigfried says, HI, LISA.
Anja says, HI, LISA.
Sigfried asks, HOW'S IT GOING?
Lisa replies, GOOD, HOW ARE
THINGS GOING HERE?
Sigfried says, WELL, WE'VE GOT
PERMISSION TO WORK ON THIS LAND.
Lisa says, THAT'S AMAZING.
Sigfried says, AND SO ANJA HAD
THIS REALLY GREAT IDEA...
Anja says, I WAS THINKING WE COULD
LIKE BAKE A BUNCH OF COOKIES AND
HAVE A BAKE SALE. LIKE SOME
PIRATE-THEMED COOKIES AND
SELL THEM...
Lisa says, YES, A BAKE SALE
SOUNDS LIKE AN AWESOME IDEA.
I LOVE TO BAKE SO
THIS COULD BE SO FUN.
WE COULD MAKE SOME
GOLD COIN COOKIES...
Anja says, YEAH.
WE COULD MAYBE EVEN PRESENT
IT IN LIKE A TREASURE CHEST.
Sigfried nods.
Lisa says, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.
Sigfried says, SO, WHILE YOU GUYS
DO THAT, IN THE MEANTIME, HOW
ABOUT MILA AND I WORK ON SOME
POSTERS FOR THE BAKE SALE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, LET'S GO GET STARTED.
LET'S BAKE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
Text beneath a skull reads, “Bake Sale.”
Sigfried narrates, A PIRATE-THEMED
BAKE SALE? NOW THAT'S
GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING.
Blue and green text reads, “Grassroots.”
He continues, GRASSROOTS MEANS
REGULAR PEOPLE WORKING TOGETHER
TO MAKE CHANGE.
LIKE ROOTS; THE PUSH COMES FORM
THE BOTTOM AND LIKE A SINGLE
BLADE OF GRASS COMBINES WITH
MANY BLADES WHICH MAKE A SOCCER
A FIELD, AN INDIVIDUAL PERSON
WORKS WITH MANY PEOPLE TO FORM
A MOVEMENT.
ALL OVER THE WORLD GRASSROOTS
MOVEMENTS ARE HELPING TO MAKE
AMAZING CHANGES.
PROTECTING MARINE ECOSYSTEMS
IN KENYA, CONSERVING MAN GROWN
FORESTS IN THAILAND, AND MOVING
TO WIND AND SOLAR ENERGY
IN SCANDINAVIA.
[Whooshing]
Sigfried narrates, WHEN WE'RE ALL
ALONE WE'RE LIMITED IN WHAT
WE CAN DO BUT TOGETHER WE
CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS…AND EAT
A LOT OF COOKIES.
[Upbeat music plays]
The electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
Lisa and Anja stand in a kitchen. Lisa wears a white apron with her name on it. Anja wears a red apron. Ingredients are spread out on a wooden island in front of Lisa.
Lisa says, TODAY, WE'RE GOING TO BE
BAKING SUGAR COOKIES BUT WE'RE
GONNA MAKE THEM VEGAN.
Green and purple text reads, “Vegan.”
She continues, SO, EVERYTHING THAT
WE USE IS GONNA BE PLANT-BASED
AND THAT'S REALLY GOOD BECAUSE
IT'S A LITTLE BIT BETTER FOR THE
ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE COWS
PRODUCE THIS GREENHOUSE GAS
CALLED METHANE.
SO, HAVE YOU EVER
USED VEGAN BUTTER?
Anja says, NO ACTUALLY.
Lisa says, HONESTLY, WHEN WE BAKE
IT THERE REALLY WON'T BE A DIFFERENCE.
Anja says, OKAY.
Lisa says, ALL RIGHT.
SO LET'S GET BAKING.
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja measures butter into a measuring cup.
Lisa says, FIRST THING WE NEED
IS THREE-FOURTHS CUPS OF
VEGAN BUTTER SO WE HAVE
A GOOD AMOUNT.
GREAT JOB AND WE ALSO
NEED THREE-FOURTHS OF SUGAR.
Anja pours ingredients into a bowl.
Lisa says, GOOD JOB.
AND THREE, PERFECT.
Anja says, OKAY.
Lisa says, SO, NOW I'M GONNA
ADD IN THE SUGAR.
JUST ADD IN A LITTLE BIT AT
A TIME, HAVE YOU MIX IT UP.
[Banging]
Eric, Mila, and Sigfried sit at a table making signs.
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric asks, WHAT DO THINK
ABOUT MY SIGN SO FAR?
IT'S KIND OF CHAOTIC.
Mila says, I THINK IT'S GREAT.
Eric says, AW, THANK YOU.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Eric says, I THINK YOUR SIGN IS
COMING ALONG VERY WELL
AS WELL. I LIKE…
Sigfried says, VERY NICE HANDWRITING.
Eric says, GOOD JOB, UP TOP.
Mila and Eric high five.
Eric says, OW!
In the kitchen, Lisa pours the cookie dough out of the bowl.
Anja comments, IT'S MORE LIKE
A CRUSHED UP MOUNTAIN.
Lisa says, YEAH.
JUST BREAK IT UP. OH.
ALL RIGHT. LET'S ROCK AND ROLL.
Anja flattens the dough with a rolling pin.
Anja says, THAT WOULD ACTUALLY
MAKE A LOT MORE SENSE IF WE
WERE ROLLING IT WITH A ROCK.
[Lisa laughs, rustling]
Lisa says, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT
WOULD WORK THOUGH.
SO, NOW WE GOTTA PUT IT IN THE
FRIDGE TO CHILL FOR AN HOUR.
Anja puts the dough in the refrigerator.
[Rustling]
Lisa says, OUR PIRATE PUNCH
IS LOOKING GREAT.
IT'S GREAT TO USE THESE
STRAWBERRIES BECAUSE THEY'RE
ACTUALLY LOCALLY GROWN SO THAT'S
AWESOME BECAUSE THEY TOOK A LOT
LESS EMISSIONS TO GET FROM WHERE
THEY WERE GROWN TO OUR TABLE.
Anja pours a jug of juice into a large bowl.
[Sloshing, Lisa chuckles]
Later, Anja and Lisa cut the dough into shapes.
Lisa says, LET'S GO.
I WILL MAKE THE GOLD
COINS USING THIS GLASS.
OH, THAT LOOKS PERFECT.
GREAT JOB.
Lisa narrates, IN THE OVEN THEY GO!
[Ticking, ding, upbeat music continues]
Lisa says, OKAY, SO, WE TOOK OUR
COOKIES OUT OF THE OVEN.
THEY'RE NICE AND COOLED.
Lisa sings, NOW WE CAN START DECORATING.
Anja stirs yellow icing.
[Tapping]
Anja says, AH.
[Crunching]
Anja cuts the tip off an icing bag.
Lisa says, THERE WE GO.
ALL RIGHT.
Mila opens a door to the kitchen. She wears a black pirate hat.
Mila says, HI GUYS.
Text over Mila reads, “Hey guys.” Text between Anja and Lisa reads, “Hey Mila.”
Lisa says, HEY MILA.
IT'S GOING GREAT.
WE'RE ALMOST READY.
[Jaunty music plays]
Photographs show Eric, Mila, and Sigfried dressed as pirates as they post signs about the bake sale around the neighbourhood.
Eric says, PIRATE BAKE SALE.
AR YE ARR YE ARR.
Eric waves a sign that reads, “Bake Sale.”
He says, YARR.
COME TO THE BAKE SALE.
HELLO TRAVELLERS.
HOW ARE YOU?
MOVE ON FORWARD
TO THE BAKE SALE.
[Eric cheers]
A man carries a shovel and holds a young boy’s hand.
Eric narrates, LOOK AT HOW MANY
PEOPLE SHOWED UP - DONATING USED
ITEMS FOR THE PLAYGROUND.
A man with a beard says, WE BROUGHT
YOU SOME WOOD.
Anja says, A LOT OF WOOD.
The bearded man says, A LOT OF WOOD,
DO YOU THINK YOU CAN USE IT?
Anja says, IT'S GONNA BE REALLY GREAT.
The bearded man asks, DO YOU THINK
IT'LL BE USEFUL?
Anja says, DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY. THANKS.
Eric says, OOH, THAT'S A PRETTY COOL NET.
THANK YOU, CALVIN. WOW, LOOK AT THAT.
[Chiming]
Anja says, YEAH, THAT'LL BE PERFECT.
Lisa says, WE HAVE OUR COOKIES.
OUR GOLD COIN COOKIES
IN OUR TREASURE CHEST.
Sigfried asks, AREN'T THEY LOVELY?
[Chiming]
Lisa says, YEAH, THEY'RE ALL VEGAN
AND WE ALSO HAVE SOME
PIRATE PUNCH FOR YA.
[Man speaks in French to his son]
The man with the shovel says, OKAY.
WE'LL HAVE A LITTLE BIT
OF EVERYTHING.
Lisa says, OKAY, FOR SURE.
[Laughter]
Lisa says, PEOPLE ARE LOVING
THE VEGAN COOKIES AND
PIRATE PUNCH.
[Background chatter]
Lisa says, YOU CAN JUST, I THINK,
JUST DROP IT IN A PAN.
THANK YOU.
WE'RE RAISING ENOUGH MONEY TO
BUY THE OTHER THINGS WE NEED.
[Upbeat music continues]
Anja asks, HOW MANY COOKIES WOULD
YOU LIKE?
[Background chatter continues]
Lisa says, THANK YOU.
HOW MUCH WOULD YOU LIKE, SARA?
Sigfried holds a parrot. A red arrow points to the parrot. Text beside the arrow reads, “Trouble. The parrot.”
Sigfried says, YEAH, YOU COULD
PET THE BACK OF HIS HEAD
LIKE THIS.
OH, HE WANTS TO CLIMB.
YEAH. BIRDS LOVE TO CLIMB.
Trouble climbs up Sigfried’s chest and stands on his shoulder.
Sigfried says, BUT HE'S CUTE.
[Upbeat music continues]
Lisa says, YEAH, LOOK AT THAT
DONATION BIN. THIS IS AWESOME.
Anja says, I FIND IT WENT REALLY
WELL. A LOT OF PEOPLE TURNED
OUT. A LOT MORE THAN I EXPECTED
ACTUALLY. HAVING EVERYONE, LIKE,
HELPING OUT. I REALLY LIKE IT WHEN
THINGS LIKE THAT HAPPEN.
WHEN IT'S, LIKE, ALL SORTS
OF PEOPLE COME TO HELP.
Eric says, THANK YOU VERY
MUCH FOR COMING OUT.
SUPPORTING US TODAY AND
SUPPORTING ANJA'S INITIATIVE.
BIG SHOUT OUT TO LISA AND ANJA
FOR COOKING ALL THESE COOKIES.
Lisa says, GOOD JOB.
Lisa and Anja high five.
[Hands slap]
People cheer, WOO, WOO!
[Applause]
People shout, ARRR!
Orange and red text reads, “ARRRRR!”
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Lisa narrates, THOSE VEGAN
COOKIES WERE SUCH A HIT.
VEGAN MEANS THE COOKIES WERE
MADE WITH NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS
LIKE BUTTER OR MILK.
Text behind a cow reads, “Fart.” Text in front of the cow reads, “Burp.”
[Flatulence, burping]
Eric says, LISA!
Lisa replies, THAT'S WASN'T ME.
THE COW!
Lisa narrates, FARTING IS FUNNY
BUT CLIMATE CHANGE ISN'T.
COW BURPS AND FARTS HAVE METHANE
IN THEM; A GAS THAT TRAPS HEAT
IN THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE AND
CONTRIBUTES TO CLIMATE CHANGE.
Text behind a cow reads, “Fart.” Text in front of the cow reads, “Burp.”
[Flatulence, burping]
Lisa says, IF PEOPLE CONSUME LESS
MEAT AND DAIRY, THEN FARMERS
WILL RAISE FEWER COWS AND THAT
MEANS FEWER SMELLY GASES.
VEGAN IS GUARANTEED
BURP AND FART FREE.
Eric says, BUT WHAT IF THE PERSON
BAKING THE COOKIES DOES IT?
Text behind a woman reads, “Toot.”
[Flatulence]
Lisa says, HUMAN GAS ISN'T AS HARMFUL
AS GAS PRODUCED BY COWS SO LET'S
JUST SAY VEGAN IS GUARANTEED
ANIMAL BURP AND FART FREE AND
LEAVE IT AT THAT.
Red seal reads, “Animal Burp and Fart Free Guaranteed.”
[Cow moos]
[Upbeat music plays]
Electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
In the alley, Eric, Mila, Anja, and Sigfried put on gloves.
Eric says, ALL RIGHT GANG!
WE'VE GOT THE PERMISSION
THANKS TO SIGFRIED.
WE'VE DONE THE BAKE
SALE AND RAISED THE FUNDS
THANKS TO LISA.
AND NOW IT'S TIME TO
ACTUALLY DO THE WORK.
[Glove snaps]
Sigfried says, YEP.
Eric says, GET THOSE
GLOVES ON....
Anja says, FINALLY.
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric says, LET'S START WITH
CLEAN UP. GO!
They pick up garbage in the alley.
Anja says, YOU KNOW HOW THE
WOOD IS A FLYING SEAHORSE BUT
IT'S NOT ACTUALLY FLYING?
Sigfried says, YES...
Anja says, I BET YOU WE CAN USE
THESE AS LIKE WINGS!
Eric says, ALL RIGHT, SO, LEVEL IT.
[Grunt, scraping shovel, upbeat music continues]
Anja says, I'M DIGGING WHERE
THE PATH IS GONNA GO SO THAT
WE HAVE A CLEAR IMAGE AND WE
ALSO NEED IT TO BE DUG OUT.
Eric says, WE CAN LAY THE BRICKS
LIKE THIS.
Sigfried puts on large sunglasses.
He says, SAFETY FIRST.
Sigfried sands the side of the tree house.
[Buzzing]
Eric says, GET IT IN THERE.
JUST ABOUT DONE HERE.
GOOD JOB.
Jordan says, ALL RIGHT, ANJA.
TIME TO START WORKING ON
THE BENCH.
Anja says, COOL!
Eric narrates, IT'S A BIG JOB
SO ALL HANDS ON DECK!
Anja drills a piece of the bench together.
[Buzzing, upbeat music continues]
Jordan says, THERE WE GO.
Sigfried says, YOU CAN PAINT THE
BOTTOM HERE THAT'S SUPPORTING
IT AND THE EDGES.
Anja paints.
Sigfried narrates, IF THE PLAY AREA
LOOKS GREAT, KIDS ARE MORE LIKELY
TO COME AND USE IT.
Anja says, WHY DON'T YOU DROP
IT DOWN. ALL RIGHT. IS THE STRING
LONG ENOUGH?
Eric pushes Anja in the tire swing.
[Anja cheers]
Text reads, “Yahoo!”
Eric says, THERE YOU GO.
Eric narrates, WE'RE HERE AT
OUR LAST PLANTER. OUR LAST
BEAUTIFUL PLANTER TIRE
DONATED FROM DAVID.
[Eric imitates an airplane]
Eric and Anja put a plant in the soil in the tire.
Eric says, VERY GOOD.
Anja asks, THAT'S OUR COMPOST BIN?
Sigfried says, YEAH.
I'VE DECIDED TO TURN YOUR
COMPOST BIN INTO A TREASURE
CHEST TO STAY ON THE PIRATE
THEME AND BECAUSE COMPOST
IS SUPER VALUABLE.
[Chiming]
Anja says, AND RICH.
Sigfried says, EXACTLY AND YOU
CAN USE IT FOR ALL OF THE PLANTS
THAT YOU AND ERIC JUST SO LOVELY
PLANTED HERE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja narrates, WE GOT A WHOLE LOT
OF PEOPLE TOGETHER. IT'S JUST
AMAZING THE CHANGES YOU CAN MAKE.
LET'S SAY EVERYONE'S WORKING ON
A DIFFERENT THING THEN THAT JUST
MAKES SUCH AN AMAZING DIFFERENCE.
[Grunt]
Anja says, I JUST FIND IT'S SO NICE.
SO GREAT. EVERYONE'S GONNA
LOVE IT.
HONESTLY AND I THINK IT'S
ECOLOGICAL BECAUSE IT'S A LOT OF
REUSED STUFF AND A LOT OF PEOPLE
ARE GONNA, THIS IS JUST GONNA
ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO COME OUTSIDE.
I THINK THAT'S A GOOD THING.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Eric narrates, REUSING MATERIALS
TO BUILD A PLAYGROUND IS AN
AWESOME WAY TO HELP THE
PLANET AND HAVE FUN.
OLD TIRES ARE A
BIG GARBAGE PROBLEM.
THEY'RE MADE TOUGH SO WE CAN
DRIVE ON THEM BUT THAT ALSO
MEANS IT TAKES FIFTY TO EIGHTY
YEARS FOR THEM TO BREAK DOWN.
Green and red text reads, “fifty to eighty years!”
Eric continues, LARGE PILES OF TIRES
DON'T JUST FILL UP GARBAGE DUMPS,
THEY CAN ALSO CATCH ON FIRE AND
CREATE AIR POLLUTION AND GASES
THAT WARM THE PLANET.
THE GOOD THING IS THAT PEOPLE
ARE FINDING COOL AND IMAGINATIVE
WAYS TO USE OLD TIRES, LIKE WE
DID IN ANJA'S PIRATE PLAYGROUND,
SO LESS OF THEM END UP IN
THE GARBAGE.
AND NOT JUST FOR FUN AND
CREATIVE THINGS BUT ALSO FOR
REALLY USEFUL THINGS
LIKE THESE SANDALS.
WE EVEN FIGURED OUT HOW TO
BREAK DOWN OLD TIRES AND USE
THEM TO MAKE ROADS.
PEOPLE ARE SO SMART.
NOW THAT DESERVES A COOKIE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Green text reads, “Green.” Pink text reads, “Squad.”
Electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
[Upbeat music continues]
Eric leans against a shovel. Sigfried stands beside him. Anja walks along a narrow brick path towards them in the finished playground.
Anja says, WOW, THIS IS SO AMAZING.
Eric says, I THINK THAT WE'RE DONE.
Black and white video footage shows Sigfried, David, and Anja standing in the alley. Yellow text reads, “Before.”
[Laughter]
Anja says, THANK YOU.
Sigfried says, IT'S TIME TO PLAY.
Eric says, SHE TOOK MY HAT.
GIVE ME MY HAT BACK.
NO NO NO NO NO.
[Anja laughs]
Sigfried says, HUGE SHOUT OUT
TO LISA FOR DOING THE BAKE
SALE WITH YOU GUYS AND
ACTUALLY RAISING THE MONEY
AND GETTING THE DONATIONS
TO ACTUALLY MAKE THESE THINGS
HAPPEN AND ACTUALLY GETTING THE
COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO HELP
YOU OUT AND THAT'S FANTASTIC. RIGHT?
Anja nods. She and Mila sit between Sigfried and Eric on a the bench in the alley.
Eric says, NOW WE HAVE THIS
BEAUTIFUL SPACE AND WE HAVE
TO GO.
IT'S TIME FOR ME AND SIGFRIED TO
GO BUT WE'RE GONNA CHECK UP ON
YOU IN A FEW MONTHS.
YOU REALLY MAKE
THIS PLACE YOUR OWN. OKAY?
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja says, DEFINITELY.
Sigfried says, PERFECT.
Eric says, AWESOME WORKS GUYS,
WE'RE GONNA MISS YOU.
Sigfried says, WE'LL SEE YOU.
Everyone high fives.
[Hands slapping]
Eric says, LET'S GET IN FOR
A HUG. A HUGE BENCH HUG.
Mila says, YOU'RE SQUEEZING MY HEAD.
Eric says, SQUISH SQUISH
SQUISH SQUISH SQUISH.
[Upbeat music plays]
Red text reads, “Squad.” Blue text reads, “Tip.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric stands in front of a table.
He says, I LOVED THE LOCAL BIRDS
OF MY NEIGHBOURHOOD SO BAD
I WANTED TO FEED THEM.
NOW, THIS BIRD FEEDER WAS GONNA
BE DELUXE, FLY, BIRD STOP WITH
WATER, A RESTING AREA, FOOD AND
TONS OF ANIMATED TOYS TO PLAY WITH.
I PROPOSED THIS IDEA TO MY
FATHER AND HE WAS RIGHT
ON BOARD.
WE DECIDED TO USE LEFTOVER
WOOD FROM OUR HOUSE AND YARD
RENOVATIONS AND USING ONLY THE
MATERIALS AT OUR DISPOSAL REALLY
HELPED ENGAGE OUR MINDS TO HELP
SOLVE PROBLEMS AND COME UP WITH
A CREATIVE WAY TO BUILD IT.
FINALLY THE FEEDER WAS DONE AND
I COULD FEED MY FRIENDS BUT THAT
WASN'T ALL FOR MY FATHER AND
I AS WE SEARCHED OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
FOR WOOD SCRAPS AND FOR MATERIALS
WE COULD USE IN NEW PROJECTS.
In a photograph, Eric and his father pose beside a wooden bird feeder.
Eric says, WE MADE ALL SORTS OF
GAMES LIKE PICKLE BAR RACKETS,
PICKLE BALL NETS, RINGHOOD GAMES,
WASHER TOSS GAMES AND
GARDEN BORDERS.
WE HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR
OUR FAMILY SO WE DECIDED TO
DISTRIBUTE THEM TO THE COMMUNITY.
SOON ENOUGH EVERYONE HAD THEIR
VERY OWN PICKLE BALL RACKETS AND
COULD JOIN US ON THE COURT.
WE REALLY LOVE THE IDEA ABOUT
REUSING AND RE-PURPOSING MATERIALS.
WHAT KIND OF CREATIONS
CAN YOU COME UP WITH?
[Upbeat music plays]
Green and blue text reads, “Check-in.”
Lisa, Kyle, Shakira, Eric, and Sigfried sit on a couch. A table is propped up on a wooden table in front of them.
Eric says, ARR, LET'S CHECK OUT
ANJA'S PIRATE PLAYGROUND.
Kyle says, AYE AYE, CAPTAIN.
Anja appears on the tablet screen.
[Upbeat music plays quietly]
She says, HERE WE ARE TWO MONTHS
AFTER WE FILMED HERE IN THE ALLEY
AND I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A BIT OF A
REPORT ON HOW EVERYTHING IS GOING.
SO, FIRST WE HAVE OUR
COMPOST BIN WHICH WE PAINTED TO
LOOK LIKE A TREASURE CHEST WHICH
IS ACTUALLY DOING VERY WELL.
Eric says, IT'S HOLDING UP - THE PAINT.
Anja says, THEN WE HAVE OUR PLANTS
WHICH ARE SADLY A BIT SQUISHED BUT
OTHER THAN THAT HEALTHY AND
SURPRISINGLY NICE.
Lisa says, THEY LOOK GREAT.
Shakira says, THEY STILL LOOK REALLY GOOD.
Eric says, THEY'RE DOING FINE.
Anja says, AND THEN WE HAVE
OUR TIRE SWING. A LOT OF PEOPLE
ARE USING IT.
Eric says, ANJA, IT'S HOLDING UP.
Anja says, HERE'S OUR NETTING
AND FINALLY WE HAVE OUR PIRATE
SHIP WHICH THAT TOO IS DOING
VERY WELL.
IT'S GOTTEN PRETTY DIRTY BUT
THAT'S BECAUSE A LOT OF SHOES
ARE ON IT.
Shakira says, THAT MEANS A LOT
OF PEOPLE ARE PLAYING WITH IT
SO THAT'S A WIN.
Eric says, ABSOLUTELY RIGHT,
THAT'S A WIN.
Anja says, YEAH, OTHER THAN
THAT, IT'S PRETTY GOOD.
Anja films a ragged skull and crossbones flag.
Eric says, WELL, THAT PIRATE FLAG
HAS SEEN SOME BATTLES.
[Chuckling]
Anja says, IT REALLY DOES FEEL
GOOD THAT I'VE DONE SOMETHING
THAT PEOPLE APPRECIATE.
I REALLY LIKE THAT FEELING
THAT EVERYONE'S USING IT.
I REALLY FIND IT FUNNY THAT
PEOPLE COME AND LIKE ARE TOTALLY
AMAZED BY THE TRANSFORMATION.
[Shakira laughs]
Eric says, SO, THE FACT THAT THEY
KEPT IT GOING AND THAT IT'S
ENCOURAGED KIDS TO GET OUT
AND PLAY GET OUTSIDE AND MOVE.
IT'S FANTASTIC.
Lisa says, I'M PROUD OF HOW MUCH
WORK SHE PUT INTO IT.
IT LOOKS GREAT.
Anja says, SIGFRIED?
YEAH, I REMEMBER HIS SUNGLASSES.
THEY WERE REALLY BIG
[Laughter]
Anja says, AND I REMEMBER TALKING
TO PEOPLE GOING AND ASKING PEOPLE
IF THEY WANTED TO COME TO OUR
BAKE SALE.
Sigfried says, WE HAD TO ACTUALLY
GO THERE AND ASK PEOPLE WHO
OWNED THE DEALERSHIP IF WE CAN
WORK ON THEIR LAND OR NOT AND
A LOT OF KIDS MIGHT SEE THAT AND
SORT OF STOP AND BECAUSE
IT'S DAUNTING.
SHE WAS REALLY CONFIDENT FOR
A KID TOO...
Shakira says, NATURAL...
Sigfried says, YEAH YOU CAN SEE
THAT SHE TOOK A LEAD ON IT.
Lisa says, YEAH.
BEING A KID, IT'S NOT ALWAYS
EASY TO LIKE YOU SAID GO OUT
TO ADULTS SO I'M REALLY PROUD
OF HER DOING THAT. IT TOOK
A LOT OF COURAGE.
Eric says, THIS IS GONNA SERVE
SKILLS FOR HER FOR THE REST
OF HER LIFE.
[Murmurs of agreement]
Eric says, I MEAN...
SHE'S DOING A GREAT JOB.
Lisa says, HOW TO RAISE MONEY
AS WELL WITH THE BAKE SALE.
Anja says, AND LISA...SHE'S A
GOOD BAKER. SHE'S VERY TALENTED.
Lisa says, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Anja says, WELL IT WAS FUN.
JUST LIKE TALKING WITH HER,
BAKING, EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.
[Laughter]
Eric confesses, I ATE A LOT OF
COOKIES AND THE PUNCH.
BOTH OF YOU, YOU
MADE A PERFECT TEAM.
Lisa says, YEAH, IT WAS AMAZING THAT
SHE'S NEVER BAKED WITH VEGAN
INGREDIENTS BEFORE SO IT WAS
GREAT THAT SHE WAS WILLING TO
TRY THAT AND IT TURNED OUT SO
GREAT AS WELL.
Anja says, IT WAS LIKE
EVERYONE WAS HELPING OUT.
IT WAS ALL LIKE TEAM WORK.
Shakira says, COMMUNITY EFFORT.
Anja says, I REALLY ENJOYED THAT PART.
Kyle says, EVEN THOUGH THE COMMUNITY
PLAYED A BIG PART IN IT, IT HAS TO START
SOMEWHERE RIGHT?
Sigfried says, ABSOLUTELY AND SHE
REALLY TOOK THE INITIATIVE ON IT.
Eric says, SHE'S THE PIRATE CAPTAIN.
MISS ANJA.
Kyle says, THAT'S FOR SURE.
Lisa says, ANJA, YOU'RE AN INSPIRATION.
The Green Squad cheers, GO ANJA!
End credits roll.
[Upbeat music plays]
A child says, WHEE!
Colourful text reads, “tvo kids.”
[Child giggles]
A blue eye peers out of the Apartment Eleven Productions logo. Text beneath it reads, “Apartment Eleven Productions.”
[Squeaking]
The Green Squad smiles. Yellow and red text reads, “Eric.” To the right of the text, Eric holds a reusable shopping bag and smiles. His chin-length black hair is straight and he wears a black t-shirt and brown overalls.
Red and orange text reads, “Lisa.” To the left of the text, Lisa wears her brown hair in small braids. She wears a dark red blouse with white flecks with light blue jeans.
Purple and blue text reads, “Sigfried.” To the right of the text, Sigfried wears a black beret over his pale curly blond hair. He wears a red long-sleeve shirt.
Green and blue text reads, “Shakira.” To the left of the text, a girl with long black hair turns. She wears a black sweater and ripped blue jeans. A pink floral scarf is knotted around her neck.
Dark and light blue text reads, “Kyle.” To the right of the text, Kyle wears a red backpack. His dark brown hair reaches beneath his ears.
White text reads, “TVOKIDS presents.” Below that, green text with dark green dots reads, “Green.” Below that, pink text reads, “Squad.” The Green Squad poses beneath the text.
Electronic voice sings, GREEN SQUAD.
A girl wears her brown hair pulled away from her face. She wears a pink t-shirt with black text. Blue text beside her reads, “Anja.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja says, HI, I'M ANJA I'M TEN.
WELL, I REALLY LIKE
CRAFTING AND COOKING.
SOCCER TOO AND JUST LIKE WALKS
AND LIKE THE PARK OR SOMETHING.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT MY ROOM IS
THAT IT'S REALLY COZY SO IT'S A
GREAT PLACE TO READ.
WE HAVE AN ALLEY BEHIND OUR
HOUSE AND IT'S GOT SOME GREENERY
BUT IT'S REALLY GROWN IN AND
THERE'S A LOT OF GARBAGE AND
JUST LIKE OLD BRICKS AND OLD
WOOD AND LIKE A LOT OF STUFF
THAT I THINK THAT WE CAN REUSE.
SINCE THERE'S A PIRATE SHIP IN
OUR ALLEY I THINK IT SHOULD BE
PIRATE-THEMED.
Orange text outlined with red and purple reads, “Help me fix up the alley way!”
Anja says, HEY, SQUAD.
I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD
COME AND HELP ME FIX UP THE
ALLEY WAY.
Lisa says, I LOVE THESE OLD HOUSES.
Eric, Lisa, and Sigfried walk on a shady sidewalk.
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric says, YEAH NEIGHBOURHOODS
LIKE THESE ARE GREAT YOU COULD
JUST WALK ANYWHERE.
Sigfried says, YEAH, IF YOU WANT
TO GO OUT FOR A CARTON OF MILK
YOU CAN JUST WALK OR BIKE.
[Rattling wheels]
They all say, OR SCOOTER.
HEY ANJA!
Anja stops her scooter in front of Lisa.
Lisa says, RIGHT ON TIME.
Anja high fives Eric.
[Hands slap]
Anja says, HI GUYS.
Anja leads Lisa, Sigfried, and Eric into the living room of her house. Text reads, “Hi.”
Anja’s father says, NICE TO MEET YOU GUYS.
Anja says, HI, SO, THIS IS
MY SISTER, MILA.
A red arrow points to a girl with short brown hair. Orange text reads, “Sister Mila.”
[Squeak]
Sigfried says, MILA, HELLO.
Lisa says, HI.
Anja says, THIS IS MY MOTHER, MARTHA.
A red arrow points to Martha. Blue text reads, “Mom.”
[Squeak]
Martha says, HI, WELCOME.
Sigfried says, HI, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Anja says, AND THEN THIS IS MY
DAD, JORDAN.
A blue arrow points to Jordan. Green text reads, “Dad.”
[Squeak]
Sigfried says, HI JORDAN.
Eric says, WE'RE SO EXCITED
TO BE HERE TODAY…
Sigfried says, SO EXCITED.
Eric says, …TO HELP YOU GUYS OUT.
Lisa says, LET'S GO.
Eric says, LET'S GO.
[Upbeat music plays]
Sigfried says, OH, YOU'VE MADE A MODEL.
Lisa says, OH MY GOSH, THIS IS SO CUTE.
Anja points to parts of her model.
Anja says, THIS IS ACTUALLY WHAT
I'D LIKE FOR THE ALLEY.
I'D LIKE TO PUT A ROPE NETTING.
I'D LIKE TO COVER THE GROUND
WITH WOOD CHIPS AND ALSO MAYBE
DO A TIRE SWING I WAS THINKING.
WE COULD USE SOME OF
THE WOOD FOR OUR BENCH.
USE SOME OF THE
BRICKS FOR A LITTLE PATH.
Eric says, THIS...I....
Lisa says, THIS LOOKS GREAT!
Eric says, …I'M MIND BLOWN.
Anja leads Lisa, Eric, and Sigfried to the alley.
Anja says, SO, THIS IS THE ALLEY WHICH
WE'RE GONNA BE RENOVATING.
PART OF MY VISION IS TO CLEAN
UP THE PIRATE SHIP, FIX IT UP A
BIT, MAYBE FIND SOMETHING
TO GET RID OF THE GRAFFITI.
I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS WE CAN
DO IS ORGANIZE LIKE WHAT CAN BE
USED AND WHAT CAN'T BE AND
IT CAN BE REUSED.
Sigfried says, OKAY.
Lisa says, SURE, LIKE EVEN THE
WOOD BE GREAT TO BE USED AGAIN.
Anja says, LIKE, I WAS THINKING
THE BRICKS.
Lisa says, THAT TOO.
Sigfried says, THAT'S A GREAT IDEA.
Lisa suggests, LIKE A COMMUNITY CLEAN UP.
Anja says, YES, THAT WOULD BE REALLY GREAT.
Eric says, COMMUNITY CLEAN UP
INTO A PIRATE PLAYGROUND.
Anja says, YEAH.
ANOTHER THING WE COULD DO IS,
LIKE, WE COULD ASK PEOPLE TO
DONATE OR....
Sigfried says, RIGHT, TO GET
INVOLVED AND HELP OUT.
Anja says, TO GET INVOLVED, YEAH.
Sigfried says, COOL.
Lisa says, YEAH, THEY CAN DONATE
SOME OLD FURNITURE OR ITEMS
THAT THEY HAVE.
Anja says, YEAH, LIKE...
Eric says, BUT, EVEN THE THINGS
THAT THEY WOULD BE THROWING
OUT, RIGHT...
Anja says, YEAH...REUSE.
Eric says, …WE CAN LIKE
REUSE THAT.
Anja says, SO, ACTUALLY THIS SPACE
BELONGS TO THESE GUYS OVER HERE.
THAT IS A CAR DEALERSHIP.
SO, WE'LL HAVE TO ASK THEM.
Sigfried says, I THINK THEY
WILL PROBABLY SAY YES.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Amja says, I HOPE SO.
Sigfried says, YEAH.
[Upbeat music plays]
Sigfried, Lisa, Anja, and Eric pose together.
An electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD
In Anja’s house, Anja and Sigfried sit at a table with clipboards in front of them.
Sigfried asks, SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK
ABOUT ASKING SOME OF THE NEIGHBOURS
FOR STUFF THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE?
Anja says, SO, BASICALLY, ASK
THEM FOR LIKE SUPPORT.
Sigfried says, YEAH.
[Doorbell rings]
Sigfried says, EVEN SOME STUFF
THAT THEY WERE GOING TO THROW
AWAY THAT WE CAN SORT OF REUSE.
Sigfried and Anja stand on a porch. A man opens a door.
Sigfried says, HI.
The man says, HI.
Sigfried says, I'M SIGFRIED AND THIS IS ANJA,
AS YOU KNOW, AND SHE HAS AN IDEA.
SO, WHY DON'T YOU EXPLAIN IT ANJA.
An aerial view shows a row of houses. Pink text by a house highlighted with pink reads, “Anja’s house.” A green line shows the alley.
[Beeping]
Anja says, YOU KNOW HOW PART
OF THE ALLEY THAT'S RIGHT NEXT
TO THE BUILDING?
On the aerial view, the building is highlighted with yellow. Yellow text reads, “Car Dealership.”
[Beeping]
The man says, YES.
Anja says, THIS AREA ACTUALLY
BELONGS TO THE GUYS
WHO RUN THE CAR
DEALERSHIP THAT'S
RIGHT THERE.
SO, WE NEED THEM TO GIVE US
PERMISSION TO WORK ON THIS SITE.
Sigfried says, SO, WHAT WE ARE
ASKING FROM YOU GUYS IS TO GIVE
US SORT OF A LETTER OF SUPPORT
THAT WE CAN SHOW THEM.
[Ding]
The man says, I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA.
Sigfried and Anja walk past cars towards a tall glass building.
[Upbeat music continues]
Anja says, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT
TO GO TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP
BECAUSE, WELL, THIS LAND IS THEIRS
SO WE CAN GET IN A LOT OF TROUBLE
IF WE BUILD ON IT WITHOUT
THEIR PERMISSION.
A man with short hair says, HELLO, HELLO.
Sigfried says, HI, SO, I'M SIGFRIED
AND THIS IS ANJA.
A red arrow points to the man with short hair. Light orange text reads, “David.” Purple text beneath that reads, “Dealership owner.”
David says, ANJA, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Sigfried says, ANJA HAS A REALLY
GREAT IDEA THAT SHE WANTS
TO PRESENT TO YOU.
Green text by the alley in the aerial view reads, “Pirate Playground.”
Anja says, SO, ACTUALLY THERE'S
AN AREA IN THE ALLEY RIGHT
BEHIND THIS BUILDING THAT DOESN'T
REALLY HAVE ANYTHING IN IT.
THERE'S A PIRATE SHIP.
WE WOULD LIKE TO JUST SORT OF
FIX IT UP AND MAKE IT NICER.
David points to Anya’s model.
David says, WAIT A MINUTE, THAT
LOOKS LIKE MY WINDOW. THE
WINDOW OF MY BUILDING THERE.
ALL RIGHT, OKAY. YES.
Sigfried says, SHE'S MADE IT VERY ACCURATE.
[Chuckling]
David says, SURE, YEAH.
Anja says, WE NEED PERMISSION TO
BUILD SINCE IT'S YOUR LAND.
Sigfried says, WE ACTUALLY GOT
LETTERS OF SUPPORT.
David says, I’M IN.
Sigfried says, YOU'RE IN?
Text beside David reads, “I’m in.”
David says, I'M IN.
Anja says, THANK YOU.
David says, IF YOU WANT A TIRE,
I HAVE AN OLD TIRE TO GIVE YOU TOO.
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja, David, and Sigfried walk in the alley. Anja rolls a tire beside her.
David says, YOU HAVE ALL THAT.
IT'S ABOUT, YOU KNOW, EIGHT FEET,
TEN FEET, OF DIRT THERE THAT
YOU CAN WORK ON.
YOU KNOW FROM HERE TO THE WALL
THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN DO THE
WORK, YEAH. THIS IS YOURS.
GO TO WORK.
David smiles. Sigfried smiles at Anja.
Anja says, THANK YOU.
Later, Anja and Sigfried sit at the table in her house.
[Upbeat music continues]
Sigfried says, SO, WHAT IF WE
HOST SOME SORT OF EVENT
FOR THE COMMUNITY TO GET
PEOPLE ACTUALLY AWARE OF
WHAT WE'RE DOING AND MAYBE
EVEN DONATIONS TO BUY NEW
PLANTS OR MATERIALS.
Anja says, I THINK WE COULD
DO LIKE SELL COOKIES AND STUFF.
Sigfried asks, LIKE, A BAKE SALE?
Anja says, YEAH.
YOU KNOW WHO'S GONNA
LOVE THAT IS LISA.
Anja says, DEFINITELY.
Sigfried says, SHE'LL BE ALL
OVER THAT. I THINK THAT'S
A BRILLIANT IDEA.
Anja says, I THINK I MAY HAVE
SOME, LKE, SKULL AND CROSS
BONE COOKIE CUTTERS SOMEWHERE.
[Sigfried laughs]
Sigfried says, WELL, YOU BETTER
TELL HER THAT BECAUSE I THINK
SHE'S GONNA LOVE THAT.
Later, Sigfried and Anja look at their future playground in the alley. Lisa approaches.
Lisa says, HEY. HOW'S IT GOING?
Sigfried says, HI, LISA.
Anja says, HI, LISA.
Sigfried asks, HOW'S IT GOING?
Lisa replies, GOOD, HOW ARE
THINGS GOING HERE?
Sigfried says, WELL, WE'VE GOT
PERMISSION TO WORK ON THIS LAND.
Lisa says, THAT'S AMAZING.
Sigfried says, AND SO ANJA HAD
THIS REALLY GREAT IDEA...
Anja says, I WAS THINKING WE COULD
LIKE BAKE A BUNCH OF COOKIES AND
HAVE A BAKE SALE. LIKE SOME
PIRATE-THEMED COOKIES AND
SELL THEM...
Lisa says, YES, A BAKE SALE
SOUNDS LIKE AN AWESOME IDEA.
I LOVE TO BAKE SO
THIS COULD BE SO FUN.
WE COULD MAKE SOME
GOLD COIN COOKIES...
Anja says, YEAH.
WE COULD MAYBE EVEN PRESENT
IT IN LIKE A TREASURE CHEST.
Sigfried nods.
Lisa says, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.
Sigfried says, SO, WHILE YOU GUYS
DO THAT, IN THE MEANTIME, HOW
ABOUT MILA AND I WORK ON SOME
POSTERS FOR THE BAKE SALE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, LET'S GO GET STARTED.
LET'S BAKE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
Text beneath a skull reads, “Bake Sale.”
Sigfried narrates, A PIRATE-THEMED
BAKE SALE? NOW THAT'S
GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING.
Blue and green text reads, “Grassroots.”
He continues, GRASSROOTS MEANS
REGULAR PEOPLE WORKING TOGETHER
TO MAKE CHANGE.
LIKE ROOTS; THE PUSH COMES FORM
THE BOTTOM AND LIKE A SINGLE
BLADE OF GRASS COMBINES WITH
MANY BLADES WHICH MAKE A SOCCER
A FIELD, AN INDIVIDUAL PERSON
WORKS WITH MANY PEOPLE TO FORM
A MOVEMENT.
ALL OVER THE WORLD GRASSROOTS
MOVEMENTS ARE HELPING TO MAKE
AMAZING CHANGES.
PROTECTING MARINE ECOSYSTEMS
IN KENYA, CONSERVING MAN GROWN
FORESTS IN THAILAND, AND MOVING
TO WIND AND SOLAR ENERGY
IN SCANDINAVIA.
[Whooshing]
Sigfried narrates, WHEN WE'RE ALL
ALONE WE'RE LIMITED IN WHAT
WE CAN DO BUT TOGETHER WE
CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS…AND EAT
A LOT OF COOKIES.
[Upbeat music plays]
The electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
Lisa and Anja stand in a kitchen. Lisa wears a white apron with her name on it. Anja wears a red apron. Ingredients are spread out on a wooden island in front of Lisa.
Lisa says, TODAY, WE'RE GOING TO BE
BAKING SUGAR COOKIES BUT WE'RE
GONNA MAKE THEM VEGAN.
Green and purple text reads, “Vegan.”
She continues, SO, EVERYTHING THAT
WE USE IS GONNA BE PLANT-BASED
AND THAT'S REALLY GOOD BECAUSE
IT'S A LITTLE BIT BETTER FOR THE
ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE COWS
PRODUCE THIS GREENHOUSE GAS
CALLED METHANE.
SO, HAVE YOU EVER
USED VEGAN BUTTER?
Anja says, NO ACTUALLY.
Lisa says, HONESTLY, WHEN WE BAKE
IT THERE REALLY WON'T BE A DIFFERENCE.
Anja says, OKAY.
Lisa says, ALL RIGHT.
SO LET'S GET BAKING.
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja measures butter into a measuring cup.
Lisa says, FIRST THING WE NEED
IS THREE-FOURTHS CUPS OF
VEGAN BUTTER SO WE HAVE
A GOOD AMOUNT.
GREAT JOB AND WE ALSO
NEED THREE-FOURTHS OF SUGAR.
Anja pours ingredients into a bowl.
Lisa says, GOOD JOB.
AND THREE, PERFECT.
Anja says, OKAY.
Lisa says, SO, NOW I'M GONNA
ADD IN THE SUGAR.
JUST ADD IN A LITTLE BIT AT
A TIME, HAVE YOU MIX IT UP.
[Banging]
Eric, Mila, and Sigfried sit at a table making signs.
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric asks, WHAT DO THINK
ABOUT MY SIGN SO FAR?
IT'S KIND OF CHAOTIC.
Mila says, I THINK IT'S GREAT.
Eric says, AW, THANK YOU.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Eric says, I THINK YOUR SIGN IS
COMING ALONG VERY WELL
AS WELL. I LIKE…
Sigfried says, VERY NICE HANDWRITING.
Eric says, GOOD JOB, UP TOP.
Mila and Eric high five.
Eric says, OW!
In the kitchen, Lisa pours the cookie dough out of the bowl.
Anja comments, IT'S MORE LIKE
A CRUSHED UP MOUNTAIN.
Lisa says, YEAH.
JUST BREAK IT UP. OH.
ALL RIGHT. LET'S ROCK AND ROLL.
Anja flattens the dough with a rolling pin.
Anja says, THAT WOULD ACTUALLY
MAKE A LOT MORE SENSE IF WE
WERE ROLLING IT WITH A ROCK.
[Lisa laughs, rustling]
Lisa says, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT
WOULD WORK THOUGH.
SO, NOW WE GOTTA PUT IT IN THE
FRIDGE TO CHILL FOR AN HOUR.
Anja puts the dough in the refrigerator.
[Rustling]
Lisa says, OUR PIRATE PUNCH
IS LOOKING GREAT.
IT'S GREAT TO USE THESE
STRAWBERRIES BECAUSE THEY'RE
ACTUALLY LOCALLY GROWN SO THAT'S
AWESOME BECAUSE THEY TOOK A LOT
LESS EMISSIONS TO GET FROM WHERE
THEY WERE GROWN TO OUR TABLE.
Anja pours a jug of juice into a large bowl.
[Sloshing, Lisa chuckles]
Later, Anja and Lisa cut the dough into shapes.
Lisa says, LET'S GO.
I WILL MAKE THE GOLD
COINS USING THIS GLASS.
OH, THAT LOOKS PERFECT.
GREAT JOB.
Lisa narrates, IN THE OVEN THEY GO!
[Ticking, ding, upbeat music continues]
Lisa says, OKAY, SO, WE TOOK OUR
COOKIES OUT OF THE OVEN.
THEY'RE NICE AND COOLED.
Lisa sings, NOW WE CAN START DECORATING.
Anja stirs yellow icing.
[Tapping]
Anja says, AH.
[Crunching]
Anja cuts the tip off an icing bag.
Lisa says, THERE WE GO.
ALL RIGHT.
Mila opens a door to the kitchen. She wears a black pirate hat.
Mila says, HI GUYS.
Text over Mila reads, “Hey guys.” Text between Anja and Lisa reads, “Hey Mila.”
Lisa says, HEY MILA.
IT'S GOING GREAT.
WE'RE ALMOST READY.
[Jaunty music plays]
Photographs show Eric, Mila, and Sigfried dressed as pirates as they post signs about the bake sale around the neighbourhood.
Eric says, PIRATE BAKE SALE.
AR YE ARR YE ARR.
Eric waves a sign that reads, “Bake Sale.”
He says, YARR.
COME TO THE BAKE SALE.
HELLO TRAVELLERS.
HOW ARE YOU?
MOVE ON FORWARD
TO THE BAKE SALE.
[Eric cheers]
A man carries a shovel and holds a young boy’s hand.
Eric narrates, LOOK AT HOW MANY
PEOPLE SHOWED UP - DONATING USED
ITEMS FOR THE PLAYGROUND.
A man with a beard says, WE BROUGHT
YOU SOME WOOD.
Anja says, A LOT OF WOOD.
The bearded man says, A LOT OF WOOD,
DO YOU THINK YOU CAN USE IT?
Anja says, IT'S GONNA BE REALLY GREAT.
The bearded man asks, DO YOU THINK
IT'LL BE USEFUL?
Anja says, DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY. THANKS.
Eric says, OOH, THAT'S A PRETTY COOL NET.
THANK YOU, CALVIN. WOW, LOOK AT THAT.
[Chiming]
Anja says, YEAH, THAT'LL BE PERFECT.
Lisa says, WE HAVE OUR COOKIES.
OUR GOLD COIN COOKIES
IN OUR TREASURE CHEST.
Sigfried asks, AREN'T THEY LOVELY?
[Chiming]
Lisa says, YEAH, THEY'RE ALL VEGAN
AND WE ALSO HAVE SOME
PIRATE PUNCH FOR YA.
[Man speaks in French to his son]
The man with the shovel says, OKAY.
WE'LL HAVE A LITTLE BIT
OF EVERYTHING.
Lisa says, OKAY, FOR SURE.
[Laughter]
Lisa says, PEOPLE ARE LOVING
THE VEGAN COOKIES AND
PIRATE PUNCH.
[Background chatter]
Lisa says, YOU CAN JUST, I THINK,
JUST DROP IT IN A PAN.
THANK YOU.
WE'RE RAISING ENOUGH MONEY TO
BUY THE OTHER THINGS WE NEED.
[Upbeat music continues]
Anja asks, HOW MANY COOKIES WOULD
YOU LIKE?
[Background chatter continues]
Lisa says, THANK YOU.
HOW MUCH WOULD YOU LIKE, SARA?
Sigfried holds a parrot. A red arrow points to the parrot. Text beside the arrow reads, “Trouble. The parrot.”
Sigfried says, YEAH, YOU COULD
PET THE BACK OF HIS HEAD
LIKE THIS.
OH, HE WANTS TO CLIMB.
YEAH. BIRDS LOVE TO CLIMB.
Trouble climbs up Sigfried’s chest and stands on his shoulder.
Sigfried says, BUT HE'S CUTE.
[Upbeat music continues]
Lisa says, YEAH, LOOK AT THAT
DONATION BIN. THIS IS AWESOME.
Anja says, I FIND IT WENT REALLY
WELL. A LOT OF PEOPLE TURNED
OUT. A LOT MORE THAN I EXPECTED
ACTUALLY. HAVING EVERYONE, LIKE,
HELPING OUT. I REALLY LIKE IT WHEN
THINGS LIKE THAT HAPPEN.
WHEN IT'S, LIKE, ALL SORTS
OF PEOPLE COME TO HELP.
Eric says, THANK YOU VERY
MUCH FOR COMING OUT.
SUPPORTING US TODAY AND
SUPPORTING ANJA'S INITIATIVE.
BIG SHOUT OUT TO LISA AND ANJA
FOR COOKING ALL THESE COOKIES.
Lisa says, GOOD JOB.
Lisa and Anja high five.
[Hands slap]
People cheer, WOO, WOO!
[Applause]
People shout, ARRR!
Orange and red text reads, “ARRRRR!”
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Lisa narrates, THOSE VEGAN
COOKIES WERE SUCH A HIT.
VEGAN MEANS THE COOKIES WERE
MADE WITH NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS
LIKE BUTTER OR MILK.
Text behind a cow reads, “Fart.” Text in front of the cow reads, “Burp.”
[Flatulence, burping]
Eric says, LISA!
Lisa replies, THAT'S WASN'T ME.
THE COW!
Lisa narrates, FARTING IS FUNNY
BUT CLIMATE CHANGE ISN'T.
COW BURPS AND FARTS HAVE METHANE
IN THEM; A GAS THAT TRAPS HEAT
IN THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE AND
CONTRIBUTES TO CLIMATE CHANGE.
Text behind a cow reads, “Fart.” Text in front of the cow reads, “Burp.”
[Flatulence, burping]
Lisa says, IF PEOPLE CONSUME LESS
MEAT AND DAIRY, THEN FARMERS
WILL RAISE FEWER COWS AND THAT
MEANS FEWER SMELLY GASES.
VEGAN IS GUARANTEED
BURP AND FART FREE.
Eric says, BUT WHAT IF THE PERSON
BAKING THE COOKIES DOES IT?
Text behind a woman reads, “Toot.”
[Flatulence]
Lisa says, HUMAN GAS ISN'T AS HARMFUL
AS GAS PRODUCED BY COWS SO LET'S
JUST SAY VEGAN IS GUARANTEED
ANIMAL BURP AND FART FREE AND
LEAVE IT AT THAT.
Red seal reads, “Animal Burp and Fart Free Guaranteed.”
[Cow moos]
[Upbeat music plays]
Electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
In the alley, Eric, Mila, Anja, and Sigfried put on gloves.
Eric says, ALL RIGHT GANG!
WE'VE GOT THE PERMISSION
THANKS TO SIGFRIED.
WE'VE DONE THE BAKE
SALE AND RAISED THE FUNDS
THANKS TO LISA.
AND NOW IT'S TIME TO
ACTUALLY DO THE WORK.
[Glove snaps]
Sigfried says, YEP.
Eric says, GET THOSE
GLOVES ON....
Anja says, FINALLY.
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric says, LET'S START WITH
CLEAN UP. GO!
They pick up garbage in the alley.
Anja says, YOU KNOW HOW THE
WOOD IS A FLYING SEAHORSE BUT
IT'S NOT ACTUALLY FLYING?
Sigfried says, YES...
Anja says, I BET YOU WE CAN USE
THESE AS LIKE WINGS!
Eric says, ALL RIGHT, SO, LEVEL IT.
[Grunt, scraping shovel, upbeat music continues]
Anja says, I'M DIGGING WHERE
THE PATH IS GONNA GO SO THAT
WE HAVE A CLEAR IMAGE AND WE
ALSO NEED IT TO BE DUG OUT.
Eric says, WE CAN LAY THE BRICKS
LIKE THIS.
Sigfried puts on large sunglasses.
He says, SAFETY FIRST.
Sigfried sands the side of the tree house.
[Buzzing]
Eric says, GET IT IN THERE.
JUST ABOUT DONE HERE.
GOOD JOB.
Jordan says, ALL RIGHT, ANJA.
TIME TO START WORKING ON
THE BENCH.
Anja says, COOL!
Eric narrates, IT'S A BIG JOB
SO ALL HANDS ON DECK!
Anja drills a piece of the bench together.
[Buzzing, upbeat music continues]
Jordan says, THERE WE GO.
Sigfried says, YOU CAN PAINT THE
BOTTOM HERE THAT'S SUPPORTING
IT AND THE EDGES.
Anja paints.
Sigfried narrates, IF THE PLAY AREA
LOOKS GREAT, KIDS ARE MORE LIKELY
TO COME AND USE IT.
Anja says, WHY DON'T YOU DROP
IT DOWN. ALL RIGHT. IS THE STRING
LONG ENOUGH?
Eric pushes Anja in the tire swing.
[Anja cheers]
Text reads, “Yahoo!”
Eric says, THERE YOU GO.
Eric narrates, WE'RE HERE AT
OUR LAST PLANTER. OUR LAST
BEAUTIFUL PLANTER TIRE
DONATED FROM DAVID.
[Eric imitates an airplane]
Eric and Anja put a plant in the soil in the tire.
Eric says, VERY GOOD.
Anja asks, THAT'S OUR COMPOST BIN?
Sigfried says, YEAH.
I'VE DECIDED TO TURN YOUR
COMPOST BIN INTO A TREASURE
CHEST TO STAY ON THE PIRATE
THEME AND BECAUSE COMPOST
IS SUPER VALUABLE.
[Chiming]
Anja says, AND RICH.
Sigfried says, EXACTLY AND YOU
CAN USE IT FOR ALL OF THE PLANTS
THAT YOU AND ERIC JUST SO LOVELY
PLANTED HERE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja narrates, WE GOT A WHOLE LOT
OF PEOPLE TOGETHER. IT'S JUST
AMAZING THE CHANGES YOU CAN MAKE.
LET'S SAY EVERYONE'S WORKING ON
A DIFFERENT THING THEN THAT JUST
MAKES SUCH AN AMAZING DIFFERENCE.
[Grunt]
Anja says, I JUST FIND IT'S SO NICE.
SO GREAT. EVERYONE'S GONNA
LOVE IT.
HONESTLY AND I THINK IT'S
ECOLOGICAL BECAUSE IT'S A LOT OF
REUSED STUFF AND A LOT OF PEOPLE
ARE GONNA, THIS IS JUST GONNA
ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO COME OUTSIDE.
I THINK THAT'S A GOOD THING.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Eric narrates, REUSING MATERIALS
TO BUILD A PLAYGROUND IS AN
AWESOME WAY TO HELP THE
PLANET AND HAVE FUN.
OLD TIRES ARE A
BIG GARBAGE PROBLEM.
THEY'RE MADE TOUGH SO WE CAN
DRIVE ON THEM BUT THAT ALSO
MEANS IT TAKES FIFTY TO EIGHTY
YEARS FOR THEM TO BREAK DOWN.
Green and red text reads, “fifty to eighty years!”
Eric continues, LARGE PILES OF TIRES
DON'T JUST FILL UP GARBAGE DUMPS,
THEY CAN ALSO CATCH ON FIRE AND
CREATE AIR POLLUTION AND GASES
THAT WARM THE PLANET.
THE GOOD THING IS THAT PEOPLE
ARE FINDING COOL AND IMAGINATIVE
WAYS TO USE OLD TIRES, LIKE WE
DID IN ANJA'S PIRATE PLAYGROUND,
SO LESS OF THEM END UP IN
THE GARBAGE.
AND NOT JUST FOR FUN AND
CREATIVE THINGS BUT ALSO FOR
REALLY USEFUL THINGS
LIKE THESE SANDALS.
WE EVEN FIGURED OUT HOW TO
BREAK DOWN OLD TIRES AND USE
THEM TO MAKE ROADS.
PEOPLE ARE SO SMART.
NOW THAT DESERVES A COOKIE.
[Upbeat music plays]
Green text reads, “Green.” Pink text reads, “Squad.”
Electronic voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
[Upbeat music continues]
Eric leans against a shovel. Sigfried stands beside him. Anja walks along a narrow brick path towards them in the finished playground.
Anja says, WOW, THIS IS SO AMAZING.
Eric says, I THINK THAT WE'RE DONE.
Black and white video footage shows Sigfried, David, and Anja standing in the alley. Yellow text reads, “Before.”
[Laughter]
Anja says, THANK YOU.
Sigfried says, IT'S TIME TO PLAY.
Eric says, SHE TOOK MY HAT.
GIVE ME MY HAT BACK.
NO NO NO NO NO.
[Anja laughs]
Sigfried says, HUGE SHOUT OUT
TO LISA FOR DOING THE BAKE
SALE WITH YOU GUYS AND
ACTUALLY RAISING THE MONEY
AND GETTING THE DONATIONS
TO ACTUALLY MAKE THESE THINGS
HAPPEN AND ACTUALLY GETTING THE
COMMUNITY TOGETHER TO HELP
YOU OUT AND THAT'S FANTASTIC. RIGHT?
Anja nods. She and Mila sit between Sigfried and Eric on a the bench in the alley.
Eric says, NOW WE HAVE THIS
BEAUTIFUL SPACE AND WE HAVE
TO GO.
IT'S TIME FOR ME AND SIGFRIED TO
GO BUT WE'RE GONNA CHECK UP ON
YOU IN A FEW MONTHS.
YOU REALLY MAKE
THIS PLACE YOUR OWN. OKAY?
[Upbeat music plays]
Anja says, DEFINITELY.
Sigfried says, PERFECT.
Eric says, AWESOME WORKS GUYS,
WE'RE GONNA MISS YOU.
Sigfried says, WE'LL SEE YOU.
Everyone high fives.
[Hands slapping]
Eric says, LET'S GET IN FOR
A HUG. A HUGE BENCH HUG.
Mila says, YOU'RE SQUEEZING MY HEAD.
Eric says, SQUISH SQUISH
SQUISH SQUISH SQUISH.
[Upbeat music plays]
Red text reads, “Squad.” Blue text reads, “Tip.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Eric stands in front of a table.
He says, I LOVED THE LOCAL BIRDS
OF MY NEIGHBOURHOOD SO BAD
I WANTED TO FEED THEM.
NOW, THIS BIRD FEEDER WAS GONNA
BE DELUXE, FLY, BIRD STOP WITH
WATER, A RESTING AREA, FOOD AND
TONS OF ANIMATED TOYS TO PLAY WITH.
I PROPOSED THIS IDEA TO MY
FATHER AND HE WAS RIGHT
ON BOARD.
WE DECIDED TO USE LEFTOVER
WOOD FROM OUR HOUSE AND YARD
RENOVATIONS AND USING ONLY THE
MATERIALS AT OUR DISPOSAL REALLY
HELPED ENGAGE OUR MINDS TO HELP
SOLVE PROBLEMS AND COME UP WITH
A CREATIVE WAY TO BUILD IT.
FINALLY THE FEEDER WAS DONE AND
I COULD FEED MY FRIENDS BUT THAT
WASN'T ALL FOR MY FATHER AND
I AS WE SEARCHED OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
FOR WOOD SCRAPS AND FOR MATERIALS
WE COULD USE IN NEW PROJECTS.
In a photograph, Eric and his father pose beside a wooden bird feeder.
Eric says, WE MADE ALL SORTS OF
GAMES LIKE PICKLE BAR RACKETS,
PICKLE BALL NETS, RINGHOOD GAMES,
WASHER TOSS GAMES AND
GARDEN BORDERS.
WE HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR
OUR FAMILY SO WE DECIDED TO
DISTRIBUTE THEM TO THE COMMUNITY.
SOON ENOUGH EVERYONE HAD THEIR
VERY OWN PICKLE BALL RACKETS AND
COULD JOIN US ON THE COURT.
WE REALLY LOVE THE IDEA ABOUT
REUSING AND RE-PURPOSING MATERIALS.
WHAT KIND OF CREATIONS
CAN YOU COME UP WITH?
[Upbeat music plays]
Green and blue text reads, “Check-in.”
Lisa, Kyle, Shakira, Eric, and Sigfried sit on a couch. A table is propped up on a wooden table in front of them.
Eric says, ARR, LET'S CHECK OUT
ANJA'S PIRATE PLAYGROUND.
Kyle says, AYE AYE, CAPTAIN.
Anja appears on the tablet screen.
[Upbeat music plays quietly]
She says, HERE WE ARE TWO MONTHS
AFTER WE FILMED HERE IN THE ALLEY
AND I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU A BIT OF A
REPORT ON HOW EVERYTHING IS GOING.
SO, FIRST WE HAVE OUR
COMPOST BIN WHICH WE PAINTED TO
LOOK LIKE A TREASURE CHEST WHICH
IS ACTUALLY DOING VERY WELL.
Eric says, IT'S HOLDING UP - THE PAINT.
Anja says, THEN WE HAVE OUR PLANTS
WHICH ARE SADLY A BIT SQUISHED BUT
OTHER THAN THAT HEALTHY AND
SURPRISINGLY NICE.
Lisa says, THEY LOOK GREAT.
Shakira says, THEY STILL LOOK REALLY GOOD.
Eric says, THEY'RE DOING FINE.
Anja says, AND THEN WE HAVE
OUR TIRE SWING. A LOT OF PEOPLE
ARE USING IT.
Eric says, ANJA, IT'S HOLDING UP.
Anja says, HERE'S OUR NETTING
AND FINALLY WE HAVE OUR PIRATE
SHIP WHICH THAT TOO IS DOING
VERY WELL.
IT'S GOTTEN PRETTY DIRTY BUT
THAT'S BECAUSE A LOT OF SHOES
ARE ON IT.
Shakira says, THAT MEANS A LOT
OF PEOPLE ARE PLAYING WITH IT
SO THAT'S A WIN.
Eric says, ABSOLUTELY RIGHT,
THAT'S A WIN.
Anja says, YEAH, OTHER THAN
THAT, IT'S PRETTY GOOD.
Anja films a ragged skull and crossbones flag.
Eric says, WELL, THAT PIRATE FLAG
HAS SEEN SOME BATTLES.
[Chuckling]
Anja says, IT REALLY DOES FEEL
GOOD THAT I'VE DONE SOMETHING
THAT PEOPLE APPRECIATE.
I REALLY LIKE THAT FEELING
THAT EVERYONE'S USING IT.
I REALLY FIND IT FUNNY THAT
PEOPLE COME AND LIKE ARE TOTALLY
AMAZED BY THE TRANSFORMATION.
[Shakira laughs]
Eric says, SO, THE FACT THAT THEY
KEPT IT GOING AND THAT IT'S
ENCOURAGED KIDS TO GET OUT
AND PLAY GET OUTSIDE AND MOVE.
IT'S FANTASTIC.
Lisa says, I'M PROUD OF HOW MUCH
WORK SHE PUT INTO IT.
IT LOOKS GREAT.
Anja says, SIGFRIED?
YEAH, I REMEMBER HIS SUNGLASSES.
THEY WERE REALLY BIG
[Laughter]
Anja says, AND I REMEMBER TALKING
TO PEOPLE GOING AND ASKING PEOPLE
IF THEY WANTED TO COME TO OUR
BAKE SALE.
Sigfried says, WE HAD TO ACTUALLY
GO THERE AND ASK PEOPLE WHO
OWNED THE DEALERSHIP IF WE CAN
WORK ON THEIR LAND OR NOT AND
A LOT OF KIDS MIGHT SEE THAT AND
SORT OF STOP AND BECAUSE
IT'S DAUNTING.
SHE WAS REALLY CONFIDENT FOR
A KID TOO...
Shakira says, NATURAL...
Sigfried says, YEAH YOU CAN SEE
THAT SHE TOOK A LEAD ON IT.
Lisa says, YEAH.
BEING A KID, IT'S NOT ALWAYS
EASY TO LIKE YOU SAID GO OUT
TO ADULTS SO I'M REALLY PROUD
OF HER DOING THAT. IT TOOK
A LOT OF COURAGE.
Eric says, THIS IS GONNA SERVE
SKILLS FOR HER FOR THE REST
OF HER LIFE.
[Murmurs of agreement]
Eric says, I MEAN...
SHE'S DOING A GREAT JOB.
Lisa says, HOW TO RAISE MONEY
AS WELL WITH THE BAKE SALE.
Anja says, AND LISA...SHE'S A
GOOD BAKER. SHE'S VERY TALENTED.
Lisa says, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Anja says, WELL IT WAS FUN.
JUST LIKE TALKING WITH HER,
BAKING, EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.
[Laughter]
Eric confesses, I ATE A LOT OF
COOKIES AND THE PUNCH.
BOTH OF YOU, YOU
MADE A PERFECT TEAM.
Lisa says, YEAH, IT WAS AMAZING THAT
SHE'S NEVER BAKED WITH VEGAN
INGREDIENTS BEFORE SO IT WAS
GREAT THAT SHE WAS WILLING TO
TRY THAT AND IT TURNED OUT SO
GREAT AS WELL.
Anja says, IT WAS LIKE
EVERYONE WAS HELPING OUT.
IT WAS ALL LIKE TEAM WORK.
Shakira says, COMMUNITY EFFORT.
Anja says, I REALLY ENJOYED THAT PART.
Kyle says, EVEN THOUGH THE COMMUNITY
PLAYED A BIG PART IN IT, IT HAS TO START
SOMEWHERE RIGHT?
Sigfried says, ABSOLUTELY AND SHE
REALLY TOOK THE INITIATIVE ON IT.
Eric says, SHE'S THE PIRATE CAPTAIN.
MISS ANJA.
Kyle says, THAT'S FOR SURE.
Lisa says, ANJA, YOU'RE AN INSPIRATION.
The Green Squad cheers, GO ANJA!
End credits roll.
[Upbeat music plays]
A child says, WHEE!
Colourful text reads, “tvo kids.”
[Child giggles]
A blue eye peers out of the Apartment Eleven Productions logo. Text beneath it reads, “Apartment Eleven Productions.”
[Squeaking]
