Transcript: Xavier
A child says, WHEEE!
Colourful text reads, “tvo kids” plus “Apartment Eleven Productions,” “Original.” A purple circle with a ring attached to each side appears over “Apartment Eleven.”
[Child giggles]
Three people play street hockey in front of a two-storey house. The branches of a large tree are bare. The hockey players wear helmets.
[Clunking, upbeat music plays]
Shakira, a teenaged girl with long brown hair says, WOW. HE'S REALLY GOOD.
Lisa, a teenaged girl with curly brown hair, says, YEAH.
I DON'T LIKE OUR CHANCES.
Kyle, a slender teenaged boy, bounces an orange ball on the end of his stick.
Lisa asks, KYLE, YOU WITH US?
Shakira says, AREN'T YOU FORGETTING SOMETHING?
Kyle, the boy, says, OH, YEAH.
Kyle shoots the ball into an empty net.
Red and white text reads, “Goal!!”
[Buzzer, cheering]
Lisa says, WAY TO GO, KYLE,
BUT WE'VE GOT A DIFFERENT
GOAL FOR TODAY.
Shakira says, WE GOT
TO HELP A YOUNG PLAYER MAKE HIS
HOCKEY ROUTINE GREEN.
Kyle asks, DID SOMEBODY MENTION GOALS?
Kyle shoots the ball into the empty net. Red and white text reads, “Goal!!”
[Slapping shot, buzzer, Kyle cheers]
Kyle says, OH, YEAH.
Kyle plays air guitar with his hockey stick.
[Upbeat electric guitar riff, Kyle cheers]
[Upbeat music plays]
The Green Squad smiles. Yellow and red text reads, “Eric.” To the right of the text, Eric holds a reusable shopping bag and smiles. His chin-length black hair is straight and he wears a black t-shirt and brown overalls.
Red and orange text reads, “Lisa.” To the left of the text, Lisa wears her brown hair in small braids. She wears a dark red blouse with white flecks with light blue jeans.
Purple and blue text reads, “Sigfried.” To the right of the text, Sigfried wears a black beret over his pale curly blond hair. He wears a red long-sleeve shirt.
Green and blue text reads, “Shakira.” To the left of the text, Shakira wears a black sweater and ripped blue jeans. A pink floral scarf is knotted around her neck.
Dark and light blue text reads, “Kyle.” To the right of the text, Kyle wears a red backpack. His dark brown hair reaches beneath his ears.
White text reads, “TVOKIDS presents.” Below that, green text with dark green dots reads, “Green.” Below that, pink text reads, “Squad.” The Green Squad poses beneath the text.
Electronic voice sings, GREEN SQUAD.
A boy with straight red hair sits on a carpet by a fireplace. He wears a black long-sleeve shirt and tan pants. His hands are folded over his bent left knee as he casually leans back against sofa. Blue text reads, “Xavier.” The text turns green and disappears.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier says, HI. MY NAME IS XAVIER.
I LIVE WITH MY MOM,
MY DAD, MY THREE SISTERS
AND MY DOG NAMED AXEL.
In a photograph, Xavier poses between his mother and father. They each hold a hockey stick. His father wears a Philadelphia Flyers hockey jersey. Xavier wears a white, black, and red jersey with the number sixty-seven on the chest. His mother wears a striped black, red and white sweater. A shiny sign hanging from the top of an open garage reads, “Happy Birthday.”
In a second photograph, Xavier stands on a log as his mother and three older sisters pose in front of it. The sister on the let wears a floral blouse and black skirt. Her long blonde hair falls over her shoulders. His mother stands to his blonde-haired sister’s left. On his mother’s other side stands a teenager with straight brown hair. She wears a blue denim dress. Beside her stands a woman with curly blonde hair who wears a grey halter top and grey pants.
A third photograph shows Xavier sitting on a hay bale by two pumpkins. He smiles as his tall thin grey dog sits in front of him.
Xavier says, I LIKE TO PLAY BOARD
GAMES, CRIB WITH MY PARENTS,
AND I LIKE TO COOK WITH MY PARENTS
AS WELL.
Axel plays an electric guitar. Animated green music notes and the word “La” fly from the guitar as he play.
[Electric guitar riff]
He says, I LIKE TO PLAY ELECTRIC GUITAR
AS WELL, AND I PLAY ANY KIND OF
MUSIC THAT COMES TO MY MIND.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier says, I LIKE TO PLAY BASEBALL
AND THEN I LIKE TO GOLF
WITH MY FAMILY.
I LOVE ALL KINDS OF SPORTS,
BUT MY FAVORITE,
IT HAS TO BE HOCKEY.
Xavier skates on ice with his teammates. He wears a black helmet and a blue hockey jersey with his name in white on the back and a large red number ten outlined with white. He holds a hockey stick as he skates past pucks scattered on the ice. Xavier hits a puck.
[Whistle, scraping, hockey sticks hit puck]
He says, I'M A HUGE HOCKEY FAN AND
I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR TEN YEARS,
BUT I REALLY WANT MY SPORTS
TO BE MORE ECO FRIENDLY
AND GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.
AND I ALSO WANT TO TRY TO REDUCE
THE AMOUNT OF PLASTIC BOTTLES
THAT HAVE BEEN GETTING
THROWN AWAY.
I SEE THE AMOUNT OF EQUIPMENT
THAT PEOPLE ARE BUYING, BUT
I WANT TO TRY TO REDUCE THAT.
SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO DO
LOADS OF LAUNDRY LIKE
ONCE OR TWICE A DAY, AND THAT'S
NOT INCLUDING ALL OF OUR SPORTS
STUFF THAT WE DO. IT'S USING
UP POWER.
THE REASON I'M CONCERNED
ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT,
IS BECAUSE I KNOW
THAT EARTH IS SUFFERING
BECAUSE OF POLLUTION AND STUFF,
IT'S RUINING THE EARTH.
Xavier hits a puck on the ice.
[Slap shot]
Xavier sits on the carpet by the fireplace. Orange, red, and purple text beside Xavier reads, “You have to help me out!”
Xavier says, SQUAD...
YOU HAVE TO HELP ME OUT.
Kyle, Lisa, and Shakira walk on a street. They wear black fall coats.
[Upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, YOU KNOW XAVIER IS
PRETTY BUSY PLAYING HOCKEY.
BUT HE ALSO FOUND TIME
TO JOIN THE ECO CLUB IN SCHOOL.
Shakira says, THAT'S AWESOME.
ME TOO.
Kyle says, ECO CONSCIOUS AND
LOVES HOCKEY. I THINK WE’RE
GOING TO GET ALONG GREAT.
Lisa says, I'M SO EXCITED TO
MEET YOU XAVIER.
Kyle and Shakira say, ME TOO.
Shakira knocks on a house door.
[Knocking, barking]
Xavier opens the door. Text reads, “Hi.”
Xavier, Shakira, Lisa, and Kyle say, HI.
Xavier says, COME ON IN.
Shakira says, THANK YOU.
NICE TO MEET YOU.
Lisa says, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Xavier says, THIS IS MY FAMILY.
Voices say, HI.
A red arrow points at Xavier’s mother. Green text reads, “Mom.” A blue arrow points at Xavier’s father. Yellow text reads, “Dad.” A light orange arrow points at Xavier’s sister with long blonde hair. Red text reads, “Sister Melodie.”
[Blooping]
Xavier says, THIS IS MY MOM.
THIS IS MY DAD.
AND THAT'S MY SISTER.
Lisa says, NICE TO MEET YOU,
AND WHO'S THIS?
Lisa pets Axel.
Xavier says, THIS IS MY DOG.
HIS NAME IS AXEL.
A yellow arrow points to Axel. Blue text reads, “Dog Axel.”
Lisa says, AWWW.
Kyle says, SO WE HEAR THAT
XAVIER IS A LITTLE SPORTS CRAZY.
WHO DOES HE TAKE AFTER?
Xavier says, THAT'S FROM MY DAD.
[Chuckling]
Xavier’s father says, I'VE BEEN KNOWN
TO HIT THE ICE ONCE IN A WHILE.
Lisa says, OH, THAT'S COOL.
Shakira says, I THINK YOU CAN MAKE
YOUR ICE TIME A LITTLE GREENER.
Lisa asks, READY TO HEAD TO THE ARENA?
Red text over a red and yellow background reads, “Let’s do it!”
Xavier says, YEAH. LET’S DO IT!
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier, Lisa, and Shakira sit on a bench by a sidewalk. Kyle stands behind the bench. Green text reads, “Green.” Pink text reads, “Squad.”
A voice sings, GREEN SQUAD.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier opens a glass door and Lisa enters a building in front of him.
Lisa says, A KEY GOAL ON XAVIER'S
WISH LIST IS TO REDUCE HOW
MANY PLASTIC BOTTLES HIS
TEAM USES.
Lisa says, SO WHAT'S THE BIGGEST
ISSUE THAT YOU WANT TO TACKLE?
Xavier says, PROBABLY ABOUT HOW
THERE'S SO MANY PLASTIC BOTTLES
IN THE GARBAGE CANS.
Lisa says, ALL RIGHT.
WELL, LET'S TAKE A LOOK.
Lisa looks into waste bins.
Lisa says, YEAH,
THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT KINDS
OF SINGLE USE PLASTICS IN HERE.
SO THERE'S LIKE ENERGY DRINK
BOTTLES, SPORTS DRINK BOTTLES.
WHY DO YOU THINK THAT WE'RE
FINDING SO MUCH OF THAT IN HERE?
Xavier says, PROBABLY BECAUSE
YOU NEED TO STAY HYDRATED.
YOU KEEP THE ADRENALINE
PUMPING WHILE PLAYING SPORTS.
Lisa says, YEAH, I MEAN,
I THINK WE CAN BOTH AGREE
HOCKEY IS A PRETTY INTENSE SPORT
AND IT'S SUPER IMPORTANT FOR
ATHLETES TO STAY HYDRATED
WHEN THEY'RE EXERCISING OUT
ON THE ICE.
AND SPORTS DRINKS LIKE THIS CONTAIN
A LOT OF LIKE IMPORTANT MINERALS
LIKE SALTS,WHICH ARE REALLY GOOD
FOR MAINTAINING THE FLUID BALANCE
IN THE BODY.
Xavier says, YEAH. AND PLUS, I LIKE
THEM TO. THEY DO TASTE GOOD.
[Lisa laughs, upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, YEAH, THEY DO.
An animated yellow face licks its lips.
Xavier says, THEY DO TASTE GOOD.
Lisa says, THEY DO TASTE GOOD.
SO I THINK WE JUST NEED TO FIND
A WAY TO HAVE, YOU KNOW, THE
GOOD MINERALS AND THE TASTING
GOOD, BUT ALSO WITHOUT THE SINGLE
USE PLASTIC.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Lisa narrates, NOW, THOSE WERE THE
BOTTLES IN THE RECYCLING BIN.
LET'S LOOK IN THE GARBAGE CAN.
YUP. THERE'S SOME IN HERE, TOO.
Lisa says, A LOT OF THESE PLASTIC
DRINK BOTTLES ARE MADE OUT OF
P.E.T., WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST
RECYCLABLE KINDS OF PLASTIC.
BUT ONLY ONE IN THREE BOTTLES
GETS RECYCLED IN NORTH AMERICA.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS?
Xavier says, STOP USING P.E.T. BOTTLES.
Lisa asks, READY TO HEAD HOME
AND COME UP WITH SOME SOLUTIONS?
They high five.
[Hands slap]
Xavier says, YEAH.
[Whooshing]
Back at Xavier’s house, he and Lisa stand behind a kitchen island. He shakes a plastic bottle and puts it down on the island.
[Gentle music plays]
Xavier says, THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
[Thunk]
Lisa says, FOR SURE,
IT'S THE SINGLE USE PLASTICS.
SO WHAT WE CAN DO TO AVOID USING
THOSE IS WE CAN ACTUALLY BUY
SAME SPORTS DRINK,
BUT IN POWDERED FORM
AND MAKE IT OURSELVES
TO AVOID USING THOSE.
Lisa takes a plastic lid off a can and slides the can towards Xavier.
[Thunk]
Lisa says, OPEN UP THE LID,
AND YOU PUT FIVE SCOOPS OF
POWDER IN THERE.
Xavier and Lisa count, ONE, TWO,
THREE, FOUR, FIVE.
Xavier scoops powder into a juice jug.
Lisa says, YOU GONNA WANNA
TO ADD WATER UP TO THE ONE
LITRE LINE.
Water pours into the jug. Xavier stirs blue liquid with a spoon.
[Sloshing, thumping]
Lisa says, CHEERS.
Lisa and Xavier click their glasses together and sip the drink.
[Clinking]
Lisa says, THAT'S GOOD.
SO DO YOU NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN THE REGULAR ONE
AND POWDERED ONE?
Xavier says, NO, NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL.
Lisa says, YEAH, ME NEITHER.
SO THERE'S ACTUALLY AN EVEN
BETTER OPTION, WHICH IS TO MAKE
OUR OWN SPORTS DRINKS.
Xavier says, THAT'S GOING TO BE INTERESTING.
Lisa says, OKAY, SO TO START, WE'RE GOING
TO NEED HALF A CUP OF SUGAR.
THERE WE GO.
Xavier pours sugar and salt into a glass measuring cup. Purple text over a dark orange background reads, “One half cup equals one hundred and twenty-five millilitres.” “One half teaspoon equals two point five millilitres.”
[Blooping]
Lisa says, AND THEN WE NEED
HALF A TEASPOON OF SALT.
Lisa pours water into the measuring cup. Purple text over a dark orange background reads, “One cup equals two hundred and fifty mililitres.”
[Sloshing]
Lisa says, AND THEN WE'RE GOING
TO ADD A CUP OF HOT WATER
TO GET THIS ALL TO DISSOLVE.
Xavier stirs the liquid with a metal spoon. Purple text over a dark orange background reads, “One cup equals two hundred and fifty mililitres.” “Two tablespoons equals sixty mililitres.”
[Clinking, pouring water]
Lisa says, NOW WE WILL POUR IT INTO A JUG
AND ADD ONE CUP OF ORANGE JUICE
AND SOME LEMON JUICE.
Lisa and Xavier tap glasses and sip the juice.
[Clink, lips smack]
Xavier says, IT'S NOT AS GOOD
AS THE OTHER ONE
BECAUSE AT THE BEGINNING
IT DIDN'T TASTE AS GOOD.
IT MOSTLY JUST TASTED LEMON
AND SALT. THEN AFTER THAT,
THE TASTE STARTED TO KICK IN.
AND YOU GOT THE GOOD PART.
Lisa says, YEAH, IT'S PRETTY GOOD.
SO I WOULD SAY THAT
OUR MAKE YOUR OWN SPORTS
DRINK WAS A SUCCESS.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Xavier says, I THINK IT WENT WELL. YEAH.
Lisa says, AGREED.
NOW, FOR THE REAL TEST, LET'S
TRY IT OUT WITH YOUR TEAMMATES.
Hockey plays skate on the ice.
[Hockey sticks slap ice, upbeat music plays]
Lisa and Shakira stand beside white board with two headings on it, “Drink A” and “Drink B.” Blue text beneath Lisa reads, “Drink A – Blue Powdered Sports Drink.” Green text beside that reads, “Vs.” Red text beneath Shakira reads, “Drink B – Red Homemade Version.”
Lisa says, SO I THINK WE'RE READY
FOR THE TASTE TEST TO START.
IT'LL BE INTERESTING TO SEE
WHICH DRINKS THE PLAYERS
LIKE BETTER.
Shakira says, I'M BETTING ON BLUE
BUT I'M GOING TO KEEP SCORE
AND SEE.
A player skates to the side of the rink and Lisa gives him a drink.
Lisa says, ALL RIGHT.
AND NOW THIS ONE.
The player tries a second drink.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
The player says, A.
A blue letter “A” appears.
Lisa says, A. OKAY.
Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink A” heading.
Players sit on a bench and try the drinks.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
A second player says, A.
Lisa says, WHAT ABOUT YOU?
A third player says, A.
A blue letter “A” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink A” heading.
Lisa says, OKAY, PERFECT.
THANK YOU.
OK, A OR B?
A blue letter “A” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink A” heading.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
A third player says, B.
Lisa says, B, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
A red letter “B” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink B” heading.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
A fourth player says, B.
A red letter “B” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink B” heading.
Lisa asks, WHAT ABOUT YOU?
A fifth player says, B.
A red letter “B” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink B” heading.
[Background shouting]
Shakira says, B, IT S ALMOST A TIE.
I REALLY THOUGHT THAT
A WAS GONNA WIN
BUT B IS CATCHING UP SO....
Lisa says, GAME'S GETTING CLOSE.
Xavier tries the drinks.
Xavier says, A.
Lisa asks, WHICH ONE WON?
Blue text reads, “Blue.”
Xavier says, Blue.
Lisa says, THAT WAS THE
ONE THAT WE MADE WITH, LIKE,
THE POWDER AND THE WATER. RIGHT.
Lisa says, AND THEN DRINK B WAS
THE ONE THAT WE MADE HOMEMADE.
SO NOW YOU'VE GOT TO
CONVINCE YOUR TEAM.
SO YOU HAVE A COMPETITION
OF WHOEVER CAN AVOID
BRINGING THE MOST SINGLE USE
PLASTIC BOTTLES OVER THE
ENTIRE SEASON.
[Slap shots]
Shakira says, YOU CAN EVEN MAKE
A TALLY CHART LIKE THIS ONE
IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM.
Xavier says, WE COULD HAVE A
COMPETITION IN BETWEEN THE
LINES AT SOME POINT TOO.
Lisa says, YEAH. THAT WOULD
BE GOOD.
AND ALL THE DIFFERENT LINES
CAN COMPETE, AND WHOEVER AVOIDS
USING THE MOST SINGLE USE
PLASTIC BOTTLES WOULD WIN.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Lisa says, SO NOW THAT WE HAVE
THAT SORTED, KYLE'S GOING TO
HELP YOU WITH SOMETHING
A LITTLE LESS SWEET SMELLING.
Xavier nods.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
Lisa narrates, XAVIOR WANTS
HIS TEAM TO SEND PLASTIC BOTTLES
TO THE PENALTY BOX FOREVER.
Lisa holds an animated sign that reads, “Penalty!!”
[Whistle, upbeat music continues]
Lisa narrates, IN THE SPORTS WORLD,
THERE'S PLASTIC ALMOST EVERYWHERE.
NOT JUST PLASTIC BOTTLES,
BUT LOTS OF ORGANIZATIONS ARE
STEPPING UP THEIR GREEN GAME.
[Bat hits ball]
Lisa narrates, A PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL
TEAM IS DOING AWAY
WITH PLASTIC STRAWS
AT THEIR HOME GAMES
THAT COULD GET RID OF
TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND
STRAWS IN JUST ONE SEASON.
The number two hundred thousand flashes.
Lisa says, HOME RUN.
SUPPLIER OF CLOTHES AND FOOTWEAR
FOR A MAJOR SAILING COMPETITION
REDUCED ITS PACKAGING BY HALF.
IT SAVED OVER ELEVEN THOUSAND
KILOGRAMS OF PLASTIC EACH YEAR.
The number eleven thousand flashes. Text reads, “Ahoy!”
Lisa says, AND AT A RECENT OLYMPIC GAMES,
MILLIONS OF RECYCLED PLASTIC BOTTLES
WERE USED TO MAKE SIXTY-SEVEN
HUNDRED STADIUM SEATS.
BIG WIN! BIG SALLY. TAP DANCE.
[Upbeat music plays]
A voice sings, GREEN SQUAD.
Kyle narrates, PLAYING SPORTS, ADDS
TO THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY
THAT XAVIER S FAMILY USES TO DO
LAUNDRY. SO LET'S CHECK OUT
WHAT'S IN YOUR HOCKEY BAG.
In his house, Xavier drops his hockey bag on the floor.
[Thump, zipper unzips]
Xavier says, THERE YOU GO.
Kyle sniffs a piece of clothing. Animated green vapour rises from it.
Kyle says, OH!
Xavier asks, THAT BAD?
Kyle says, WORSE.
Xavier says, WOW. OKAY.
WE'VE GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO.
ARE YOU THE ONE THAT DOES
YOUR LAUNDRY NORMALLY?
Xavier says, I MEAN, IT IS MY
EQUIPMENT, SO, YEAH.
Kyle says, EXCELLENT.
YOU'VE BEEN TRAINED WELL,
BUT I THINK WE CAN FIX
YOUR LAUNDRY ROUTINE
TO MAKE IT CLEAN AND GREEN.
Xavier says, ALL RIGHT.
Text reads, “Laundry. Green Squad Style.”
[Bubbling, upbeat music plays, beeping]
Kyle says, STEP ONE.
TURN IT TO COLD.
TURNING THE TEMPERATURE DOWN
ACTUALLY USES LESS ENERGY.
YOU CAN ACTUALLY SAVE
SEVEN HUNDRED KILOGRAMS
OF CARBON DIOXIDE PER YEAR
BY PUTTING IT ON COLD.
Text reads, “Seven hundred kilograms of carbon dioxide.”
Kyle explains, THAT'S THE EQUIVALENT
OF LIKE, FOURTEEN XAVIERS.
Fourteen small Xaviers stand together wearing their hockey uniforms.
[Popping]
Xavier says, WOW.
Kyle holds a bottle of laundry detergent.
Kyle says, STEP TWO.
THE THING ABOUT THESE IS THAT
A LOT OF THESE ARE ACTUALLY
NOT RECYCLED.
OVER SIX HUNDRED MILLION LAUNDRY
DETERGENT BOTTLES ACTUALLY END
UP IN LANDFILLS OVER THE COURSE
OF A YEAR.
Text reads, “Six hundred million.”
Kyle says, SO THERE ACTUALLY
IS A COUPLE OF ALTERNATIVES.
Text reads, “Laundry strips.” An orange arrow points to a package in Kyle’s hand.
Kyle says, OUR FIRST ONE IS LAUNDRY
STRIPS. THEY COME IN THIS COMPOSTABLE
CARDBOARD PACKAGING AND ALL YOU
NEED TO DO IS RIP THEM UP, THROW
THEM INSIDE YOUR WASHING MACHINE
AND THOSE CONCENTRATED SOAP STRIPS
WILL CLEAN EVERYTHING UP.
[Rustling]
Xavier asks, THIS?
Kyle says, YEAH. SO
YOU'RE GOING TO RIP THEM UP
TO LITTLE TINY PIECES
AND JUST THROW THEM ALL IN
AND THEY'LL DISSOLVE INSIDE.
Xavier asks, THAT EASY?
Kyle replies, THAT EASY.
THAT'S IT. DONE.
[Machine door slams]
Kyle says, STEP TWO, ANOTHER OPTION.
[Bubbling, upbeat music plays]
Xavier and Kyle sit at the kitchen island.
Xavier asks, ARE WE'RE REALLY GOING TO
MAKE OUR OWN LAUNDRY SOAP?
ABSOLUTELY. AND IT'S ACTUALLY
WAY EASIER THAN YOU THINK.
YOU ONLY NEED THREE INGREDIENTS.
THE FIRST WASHING SODA.
THIS IS JUST GOING TO SOFTEN UP
THE WATER.
Text reads, “One and a half cups equals three hundred and seventy-five millilitres.”
Kyle says, THEN WE'RE ALSO GOING TO ADD
BAKING SODA AND EPSOM SALT.
Text reads, “One and a half cups equals three hundred and seventy-five millilitres.” “One half cup equals one hundred and twenty-five millilitres.”
Kyle says, THE GREAT THING ABOUT
THIS IS THAT THERE'S NO HARMFUL
ADDITIVES. YOU CAN MAKE IT AT HOME
AND IT'S SUPER SIMPLE TO MAKE.
ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS GIVE IT
A GOOD SHAKE. PERFECT.
IF WE'RE DOING A WARM WATER
WASH OR A HOT WATER WASH,
WE WON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING.
WE'LL JUST THROW IT RIGHT IN.
BUT SINCE WE'RE DOING
THE COLD WATER WASH,
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO
DISSOLVE IT IN HOT WATER FIRST.
[Tapping, bubbling]
In the laundry room, Kyle opens the washing machine.
[Click]
Kyle says, SO NOW THAT
OUR FIRST LOAD IS DONE,
NOW WE GET TO THE DRYING PART.
Xavier says, AND WE'RE GOING
TO AIR DRY BECAUSE IT'S BETTER
FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, RIGHT?
Kyle says, ABSOLUTELY.
SO NOW WE'RE GOING TO USE
THE HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP
AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO PUT
THIS WHERE WE WOULD NORMALLY
PUT DETERGENT AND NOW PUT ON
ANOTHER COLD WASH.
[Beeping]
Xavier says, TURN THIS UP TO COLD.
Kyle says, ONE MORE WASH AND
WE'RE READY FOR THE SNIFF TEST.
[Bubbling]
Later, Shakira, Lisa, Xavier’s father, Melodie, Xavier’s mother, Kyle and Xavier stand by the kitchen island.
[Upbeat music plays]
Kyle says, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
WELCOME TO THE SNIFF TEST.
TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO BE COMPARING
ECO FRIENDLY LAUNDRY METHODS.
AND JUST TO COMPARE,
WE ALSO HAVE THIS UNWASHED,
TERRIBLE SMELLING LAUNDRY
THAT WE HAVEN'T DONE YET.
SO WE'RE JUST GOING TO SNIFF
THAT FIRST. AND YOU'RE GOING
TO GIVE ME A SCORE OUT OF TEN.
[Shakira gags, Lisa giggles]
Lisa says, YEAH.
THAT'S NOT GOOD.
I'M GOING TO GIVE IT A ONE.
Text reads, “One slash ten.”
Lisa says, YOU REALLY GOT
A GOOD WHIFF THERE.
Xavier’s father says, YEAH.
Melodie says, UGH.
Xavier says, A SIX.
Text reads, “Six slash ten.”
[Laughter]
Kyle says, IT SOUNDS LIKE UNWASHED
CLOTHING. PRETTY LOW SCORE.
SO LET'S SEE WHAT WASHED
LOAD NUMBER ONE SMELLS LIKE.
THIS WAS WASHED USING AN ECO
FRIENDLY LAUNDRY MATERIAL.
LET'S SEE HOW IT DID.
Everyone sniff a shirt.
Shakira says, OH, IT SMELLS REALLY GOOD.
Lisa says, YEAH, SMELLS NICE.
Xavier’s father says, THAT DOES SMELL NICE.
I GIVE IT A NINE.
Text reads, “Nine slash ten.”
Kyle says, SO IT SOUNDS LIKE
IT SMELLS CLEAN, BUT DO YOU
GUYS THINK IT LOOKS CLEAN?
Xavier’s father says, YEAH, LOOKS GOOD.
Lisa says, LOOKS LIKE TO ME, EVEN LIKE.
THE WHITES LOOK REALLY WHITE.
Melodie says, WOW IT SMELLS
REALLY GOOD.
Xavier’s mother says, OH WOW,
IT DOES SMELL GOOD.
[Xaviers inhales and exhales deeply]
Kyle says, SO ACROSS THE BOARD,
WE'VE SEEN SOME HIGH SCORES
FROM THE FIRST ECO
FRIENDLY METHOD.
SO THIS IS OUR SECOND ECO
FRIENDLY LAUNDRY METHOD.
Shakira says, OH, IT ALSO SMELLS REALLY GOOD.
I GIVE IT AN EIGHT. I LIKE THE OTHER
ONE EVEN BETTER BUT THIS ONE
ALSO SMELLS REALLY GOOD.
Text reads, “Eight slash ten.”
Lisa says, ALSO GOOD.
I DO LIKE THE OTHER ONE BETTER.
Xavier’s father says, YEAH, I AGREE.
I LIKE THE OTHER ONE BETTER.
I GIVE THIS A SEVEN.
Text reads, “Seven slash ten.”
Melodie says, I KIND OF LIKED
THIS ONE BETTER BECAUSE IT
DIDN'T SMELL VERY STRONG.
JUST SMELT LIKE CLEAN.
Xavier’s mother says, I'M WITH MELODIE
ON THIS ONE. I LIKE THIS ONE BETTER.
Melodie says, GIVE IT A TEN.
Text reads, “Ten slash ten.”
Xavier’s mother says, YEAH.
Kyle says, NOW WE'RE GOING TO
SHOW YOU WHAT WE USE.
DRUM ROLL, PLEASE.
[Hands slap island]
Kyle says, FOR OUR FIRST BATCH.
WE HAVE THESE LAUNDRY STRIPS.
THESE WERE WHAT YOU GUYS
THOUGHT WAS SO GREAT.
GOT AN AVERAGE SCORE OF NINE,
AND THEY WERE SUPER EASY TO USE.
WEREN'T THEY XAV?
Xavier says, YEAH.
Kyle says, LET'S MOVE ON TO THE
SECOND ONE. WE GOT LAUNDRY SOAP,
WE ACTUALLY, XAV AND I, MADE
THIS OURSELVES.
SOME OF YOU GUYS WEREN'T
CRAZY ABOUT IT,
BUT OTHERS GAVE IT
A TEN OUT OF TEN.
I THOUGHT THIS ONE SMELT
GREAT AS WELL. GOOD JOB.
Xavier says, YOU DON'T NEED STINK
TO BE ECOFRIENDLY.
Xavier and Kyle high five.
[Xavier cheers, hands slap]
Shakira says, THAT'S AWESOME.
ARE YOU READY FOR THIRD PERIOD?
Xavier says, YEAH I AM.
Shakira says, I HAVE A REALLY
FUN CHALLENGE FOR YOU.
Xavier says, LET’S DO IT.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Kyle says, I LOVE THE SMELL
OF FRESH LAUNDRY.
XAVIER'S ECO FRIENDLY WASHING
ROUTINE PASSED EVERYONE'S
SNIFF TEST WITH FLYING COLORS
AND AIR DRYING HIS CLOTHES
INSTEAD OF THROWING THEM
IN THE DRYER, ALSO HELPS THE
ENVIRONMENT IN A BIG WAY.
HANGING CLOTHES OUTSIDE
OR ON A RACK IN THE HOUSE
CAN REDUCE HOUSEHOLD CARBON
FOOTPRINT BY....WAIT...
HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK?
TWO HUNDRED KILOGRAMS A YEAR.
Text reads, “Two hundred kilograms.”
[Clicking, beep]
Kyle says, NO. HIGHER.
HIGHER THAN THAT.
[Whooshing, clicking, beep]
Text reads, “Eleven hundred kilograms.”
Kyle says, IT CAN REDUCE IT BY A MASSIVE
ELEVEN HUNDRED KILOGRAMS A YEAR.
THAT'S THE WEIGHT OF SIXTY-FIVE
HUNDRED HOCKEY PUCKS.
I WONDER HOW FAST I COULD SHOOT
THAT MANY PUCKS?
START THE TIMER.
PWEM. PWEM. PWEM.
Kyle hits the puck.
[Slap shots]
Xavier, Lisa Kyle, and Shakira pose together. Yellow and red text below them reads, “Green Squad.”
A voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
[Upbeat music plays]
In his house, Shakira watches Xavier carry his hockey bag.
Shakira says, XAVIER'S ALSO CONCERNED
ABOUT ALL THE NEW HOCKEY
EQUIPMENT PLAYERS NEED EVERY YEAR.
BUT THERE'S A SOLUTION.
[Thunk]
Shakira says, WOW.
SO WHAT'S THE CHALLENGE HERE?
Xavier says, TRYING TO REDUCE THE
AMOUNT OF HOCKEY EQUIPMENT
YOU HAVE TO BUY EACH YEAR.
Shakira asks, DO YOU WANT TO START
OFF BY SHOWING ME WHAT YOU HAVE
TO WEAR FOR HOCKEY?
Xavier says, ALRIGHT.
Xavier takes equipment out of his bag and puts it on.
Shakira narrates, BUYING NEW EQUIPMENT
MEANS MORE PLASTICS IN THE WORLD
AND THE MANUFACTURING
AND SHIPPING CAUSE POLLUTION.
Shakira says, SO WHAT'S
WITH THE MISMATCHED SOCKS?
Xavier says, SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
I JUST CAN'T PLAY HOCKEY IF I'M
NOT WEARING MISMATCHED SOCKS.
[Shakira laughs]
Shakira says, IT’S YOUR GOOD LUCK CHARM.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Shakira says, ANYTHING WE CAN
DO TO REDUCE OVERCONSUMPTION
MEANS LESS TO THROW AWAY
IN LANDFILLS.
Shakira says, SO YOU'VE BEEN
PLAYING HOCKEY SINCE YOU'RE,
LIKE, THIS HIGH, RIGHT?
Shakira holds out her hand. Xavier pushes it down to thigh level.
Xavier says, THIS HIGH.
[Shakira laughs]
Shakira says, WOW, THAT'S MANY,
MANY YEARS.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE TO BUY
ALL THIS EQUIPMENT?
Xavier says, I SAY EVERY YEAR, ALMOST.
Shakira asks, WHAT DO YOU DO
WITH IT WHEN YOU'RE DONE?
Xavier replies, WE JUST KEEP IN
THE GARAGE.
Shakira says, SO I KNOW
YOU ALREADY HAVE A PLAN ON
HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM.
WHAT IS IT?
Xavier says, SO BASICALLY,
I INVITE ALL OF MY FRIENDS
OVER OR PEOPLE I KNOW WHO
PLAY HOCKEY AND BASICALLY
THEY BRING THEIR EQUIPMENT
OR EQUIPMENT THAT DOESN'T
FIT THEM ANYMORE AND WE
JUST SWAP IT.
[Thumping]
Xavier says, SO BASICALLY AN
EQUIPMENT SWAP.
Shakira says, THAT'S A REALLY
GOOD IDEA.
WHY DON'T YOU USE YOUR DAD'S
PHONE TO INVITE THEM OVER?
Text reads, “Equipment swap.” “Okay!” “Can’t wait.” “So fun!” “Yay! Gear Swap!” “Epic.”
[Popping, upbeat music continues]
Xavier says, LET'S DO IT.
Lisa, Xavier, and Shakira stand in a garage. Piles of hockey gear lie on a plastic table.
Lisa asks, SO WHERE
DOES ALL THIS STUFF COME FROM?
Xavier says, IT COMES FROM ME
AND MY PARENTS AND MY SISTERS.
Shakira says, WHAT DO YOU THINK
WE SHOULD DO? A ONE FOR ONE SWAP
OR TAKE WHAT YOU NEED?
Xavier says, TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.
LEAVE WHAT YOU DON'T NEED.
Shakira says, GREAT TIME OF THE
YEAR TO DO THIS. IT'S THE HOLIDAY
SEASON COMING UP, SO IT'S LIKE
GIVING GIFTS TO YOUR TEAMMATES.
[Upbeat music continues]
Shakira says, WELCOME TO THE EQUIPMENT SWAP.
A girl backs into the garage. She drags a large red bag.
[Thumping]
Lisa says, HI!
Shakira says, SO YOU CAN TAKE THE
PIECES YOU WANT TO GIVE AWAY
AND PUT THEM ON THIS TABLE.
AND THEN YOU CAN TAKE A LOOK
AROUND AND SEE WHAT YOU WANT.
Xavier says, ALL RIGHT? YEAH.
GOT SOME SKATES.
A teenager says, MAINLY GLOVES
AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT.
Shakira says, THESE GLOVES ARE PRETTY COOL.
A young teenager laces up a pair of skates.
Shakira asks, HOW DO THEY FEEL?
YOU LIKE THEM? PRETTY COOL.
Lisa says, GOOD FIT, GOOD JOB.
A young teenager with short light brown hair tries on a chest protector.
Lisa asks, FEELS GOOD.
FEEL LIKE YOU CAN
PLAY HOCKEY IN IT?
The teenager with short brown hair says, YEAH.
[Thump]
Shakira says, LOOK AT THAT,
YOU HAVE A FULL NEW UNIFORM.
Text reads, “Equipment Swap.”
[Whoosh, upbeat music continues]
Shakira narrates, MOST OF THESE
HOCKEY KIDS FOUND SOMETHING
THAT THEY NEEDED THAT FIT THEM.
AND THAT MEANS THEY WON'T NEED
TO BUY THEM BRAND NEW,
WHICH IS GREAT FOR THE PLANET.
Shakira asks, SO, XAVIER,
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT
YOUR FIRST EVER EQUIPMENT SWAP?
Xavier says, I THINK IT WENT WELL.
WE GOT THIS GUY
NEW ENTIRE GEAR, SO.
[Thumping]
Lisa says, HEAD TO TOE.
Shakira says, AND YOU FOUND SOME
PIECES, TOO, BEFORE, RIGHT?
Xavier says, YEAH, I FOUND SOME GLOVES.
Shakira asks, WOULD YOU WANT TO DO
AN EQUIPMENT SWAP EVERY SEASON?
Xavier says, YEAH, I WOULD.
AND WOULD YOU ALL COME?
Teenagers shout, YEAH!
Red text on a red and yellow burst reads, “Yeah!” “Yeah!” “Yeah!”
[Upbeat music plays, cheering]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Shakira narrates, SUCCESSFUL EQUIPMENT
SWAP, CHECK!
[Ding]
She asks, BUT WHAT ABOUT STUFF
YOU CAN'T SWAP?
LIKE BROKEN HOCKEY STICKS?
I'M SURE KYLE HAS BROKEN A FEW.
[Rattling]
Kyle narrates, HEY. THAT'S BECAUSE OF MY
AMAZINGLY POWERFUL SLAP SHOT.
[Slap shot]
Shakira rolls her eyes.
She narrates, OBVI.
MOST STICKS ARE MADE OF
MATERIALS THAT DON'T DECOMPOSE,
BUT THERE ARE COMPANIES
THAT UPCYCLE THEM INTO THINGS
LIKE CHAIRS, BOTTLE OPENERS
AND BARBECUE TOOLS.
OTHER SPORTS EQUIPMENT
CAN CLOG UP LANDFILLS, TOO.
[Popping]
She asks, DID YOU KNOW THAT MORE
THAN THREE HUNDRED MILLION
TENNIS BALLS ARE MANUFACTURED
EVERY YEAR AROUND THE WORLD?
MILLIONS OF THEM
ARE THROWN AWAY.
THE GOOD NEWS
IS THAT MAJOR TENNIS
EVENTS ARE BREAKING
DOWN, USED BALLS
AND INCORPORATING THEM
INTO COURT SURFACES.
GAME, SET, MATCH.
Kyle, Xavier, Shakira and Lisa sit on a bench. Xavier waves.
[Upbeat music plays]
Green text reads, “Green.” Pink text reads, “Squad.”
In the garage, Shakira moves equipment on the table. She turns to Xavier and Lisa.
[Upbeat music continues]
Shakira says, NOT MUCH LEFT.
I THINK THOSE ARE A SUCCESS.
HOW DO YOU. FEEL?
Xavier says, I FEEL GREAT.
A LOT OF PEOPLE SHOWED UP.
EVERYONE FOUND
WHAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR
AND THERE'S NOT MUCH LEFT.
Lisa says, GREAT JOB.
SO WE'LL BE CHECKING BACK IN
TO SEE HOW EVERYTHING GOES.
AND I HOPE YOUR LINE WINS
THE COMPETITION TO AVOID
USING SINGLE USE PLASTICS
AND MAKE YOUR OWN SPORTS DRINKS.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Shakira says, AND KEEP
US POSTED ON THE LAUNDRY.
Xavier says, YEAH.
[Chuckling]
Lisa says, SO IT'S BEEN FUN.
Shakira says, SUPER FUN.
WE'LL CHECK IN A FEW WEEKS.
Lisa, Xavier, and Shakira high five.
[Hands slap, Shakira cheers]
Red and blue text reads, “Squad Tip.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, YOU HERE ARE A FEW
TIPS TO MAKE YOUR TRIP
TO THE GROCERY STORE
MORE ECO FRIENDLY.
MY NEAREST GROCERY
STORE IS A CLOSE DRIVE,
BUT IT'S TOO FAR TO WALK.
SO. I LIKE TO RIDE MY BIKE.
IT WAS A BIT DIFFICULT
AT FIRST FIGURING OUT
HOW TO RIDE MY BIKE AND
CARRY GROCERIES, BUT NOW
I HAVE BACKPACK, SO
I'M CARRYING LOTS OF GROCERIES
AND IT DOESN'T INTERFERE
WITH MY RIDING AT ALL.
YOU CAN ALSO ADD A CARRY
ATTACHMENT TO YOUR BIKE
IF YOU WANT TO CARRY
EVEN MORE GROCERIES
OR IF YOUR GROCERY STORE
IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE,
YOU CAN USE A TROLLEY.
ANOTHER GREAT GROCERY STORE
TIP IS TO USE REUSABLE PRODUCE BAGS.
THE PRODUCE BAGS THAT THEY
HAVE AT THE GROCERY STORE
ARE MADE FROM SINGLE USE
PLASTICS THAT GET THROWN
AWAY RIGHT AFTER THEY'RE USED.
I STARTED USING REUSABLE PRODUCE
BAGS BECAUSE WHEN I GO TO THE
GROCERY STORE, I BUY LOTS OF
DIFFERENT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.
BUT ALL THOSE DIFFERENT KINDS
OF PRODUCE HAVE TO BE SEPARATED
BECAUSE THEY COST DIFFERENT AMOUNTS.
SO WHEN I LOOK AT MY CART AND I SAW
ALL THESE SINGLE USE PLASTICS,
I KNEW THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY.
SO NOW I USE THIS
REUSABLE PRODUCE BAG
SO THAT I CAN PICK UP MY FRUITS
AND VEGETABLES IN THE MOST ECO
FRIENDLY WAY POSSIBLE.
[Upbeat music plays]
The Green Squad poses. Blue and green text reads, “Check-in.”
Kyle, Signfried, Lisa, Eric, and Shakira sit on a couch. A tablet is propped up on a wooden table in front of them.
Kyle says, LET'S SEE
IF XAVIER REACHED
HIS ECO “GOALS”.
Kyle makes air quotes as he says “Goals.”
[Groaning]
Eric says, I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.
Xavier appears on the tablet screen.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier says, IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN
HAVING THE HOMEMADE POWDER
AND DRINKS.
AND USING MY OWN BOTTLES A LOT
LATELY AND YEAH, IT WAS FUN.
I MISS KYLE THOUGH.
[Water pours, thumping, Lisa laughs]
Kyle says, THANK YOU.
Xavier says, I'VE BEEN USING
THE POWDERED SPORTS DRINK A LOT.
I FEEL LIKE I'M I WILL NEED
TO PERSUADE SOME OF MY
TEAMMATES TO STOP USING
SINGLE USE BOTTLES.
THAT'S GONNA BE A
STRUGGLE THOUGH.
FOR THE LINE RACE
I HAVE A GOOD FEELING
LIKE MY TEAM’S GOING TO WIN.
[Chuckling]
Xavier says, GOOD LUCK.
Sigfried says, IT CAN BE REALLY DIFFICULT
TO PERSUADE OTHER PEOPLE,
ESPECIALLY MAKING LIFE CHANGES
LIKE THIS.
SO IT DOESN'T SURPRISE ME
THAT HE'S GOING TO HAVE
A HARD TIME WITH IT,
BUT HOPEFULLY HE'S UP
TO THE CHALLENGE.
Eric says, YEAH, I LOVE HIS ATTITUDE
AND ATTITUDE ABOUT THE SPORT
AND HIS TEAMMATES,
PERSUADING HIS TEAMMATES.
Lisa adds, EVEN EVEN THE
LINE COMPETITION.
Eric says, I MEAN, YOU CAN TELL
HE'S GOING TO BE A GREAT
HOCKEY CAPTAIN.
Kyle says, OH, YEAH. AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
I THINK HE'S GOING TO WIN
THE LINE RACE, I BELIEVE IT.
Shakira says, I THINK THAT TOO.
On the tablet, Xavier points to a load of laundry.
Kyle says, EW.
Xavier says, HEY SQUAD, ME AND MY
FAMILY, WE'VE GOTTEN USED TO
USING THE LAUNDRY STRIPS NOW.
WE'VE BEEN USING THEM FOR,
I'M PRETTY SURE, EVERY SINGLE
LOAD THAT WE'VE DONE.
MY CLOTHES, I DON'T THINK THEY'VE
BEEN SMELLING THAT BAD.
[Laughter]
Kyle says, OH, NO, THEY SMELL BAD.
Xavier says, I'D HAVE TO ASK MY
SISTER BUT I DON'T THINK SHE
WANTS TO DO ANOTHER SNIFF TEST
BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T ENJOY THE
LAST ONE.
[Laughter, click, beeping]
Xavier says, WE’VE BEEN USING THE CLOTHING
RACK, WHICH IS RIGHT BEHIND ME
TO HANG ALL OF OUR STUFF TO DRY.
[Dinging]
Xavier says, YEAH, YEAH.
NOW WE JUST WATCH
SATISFYING LAUNDRY.
[Laughter]
Kyle says, THE LAUNDRY STRIPS
ARE SUCH A GREAT WAY
TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW,
YOU'RE HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT
AND ALSO NOT TAKING OUT
EVERYBODY IN THE HOUSE
WITH THIS TERRIBLE ODOR.
[Laughter]
Lisa says, AS LONG AS THE STRIPS
GET THE SMELL OUT. PERFECT.
Shakira says, AND I THINK IT'S ALSO
REALLY GREAT HE'S USING THE
CLOTHING RACK TO TO DRY.
THAT'S REALLY, REALLY COOL
THAT HE'S INCORPORATING
THAT AS WELL.
Xavier says, JUST WANT TO TALK
ABOUT THE EQUIPMENT SWAP.
I THINK IT WENT REALLY WELL.
MY FRIENDS REALLY ENJOYED IT.
I FEEL LIKE MAYBE NEXT YEAR
I COULD ALSO DO A SWAP OF
LIKE BASEBALL EQUIPMENT,
TENNIS RACKETS, FOOTBALL,
ANY KIND OF SPORTS.
Shakira says, THE CLOTHING
SWAP WE DID TOGETHER.
AND IT WAS SO SUCCESSFUL.
SO I FEEL LIKE HE CAN INSPIRE
ALL HIS OTHER TEAMMATES
AND OTHER TEAMS AS WELL.
Sigfried says, ANOTHER GOOD
EXAMPLE THAT'S SECOND
HAND IS LIKE A FANTASTIC WAY
TO GO.
Shakira says, YEAH.
Xavier says, ANOTHER WAY
I COULD BECOME MORE GREEN
IS MAYBE CARPOOL WITH MY FRIENDS
TO GO TO THE HOCKEY ARENA
BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF ROOM
IN MY DAD’S TRUCK.
SO YOU COULD PUT LIKE THREE
HOCKEY BAGS AND I COULD CARPOOL
WITH MY FRIENDS.
Kyle says, I THINK THE FACT THAT HE'S
COMING UP WITH ALL THESE IDEAS,
ESPECIALLY THE CARPOOLING,
WHICH IS A GREAT IDEA,
HE'S REALLY ON TRACK TO BECOME
A GREAT ENVIRONMENTALIST.
Shakira says, AND IT SHOWS HOW
MUCH HE'S GROWN AS A LEADER.
YOU KNOW, WE JUST GAVE HIM
THE LITTLE SEEDS, BUT HE REALLY
MADE EVERYTHING GROW.
AND HONESTLY,
I'M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY WITH
HOW EVERYTHING TURNED OUT.
Lisa says, I THINK
HE REALLY REACHED HIS GOALS.
[Chuckling]
Kyle says, AND HE WAS DEFINITELY
ON THE BALL.
The Green Squad cheers, XAVIER SCORES!
End credits roll.
[Upbeat music plays]
A child says, WHEE!
Colourful text reads, “tvo kids.”
[Child giggles]
A blue eye peers out of the Apartment Eleven Productions logo. Text beneath it reads, “Apartment Eleven Productions.”
[Squeaking]
Colourful text reads, “tvo kids” plus “Apartment Eleven Productions,” “Original.” A purple circle with a ring attached to each side appears over “Apartment Eleven.”
[Child giggles]
Three people play street hockey in front of a two-storey house. The branches of a large tree are bare. The hockey players wear helmets.
[Clunking, upbeat music plays]
Shakira, a teenaged girl with long brown hair says, WOW. HE'S REALLY GOOD.
Lisa, a teenaged girl with curly brown hair, says, YEAH.
I DON'T LIKE OUR CHANCES.
Kyle, a slender teenaged boy, bounces an orange ball on the end of his stick.
Lisa asks, KYLE, YOU WITH US?
Shakira says, AREN'T YOU FORGETTING SOMETHING?
Kyle, the boy, says, OH, YEAH.
Kyle shoots the ball into an empty net.
Red and white text reads, “Goal!!”
[Buzzer, cheering]
Lisa says, WAY TO GO, KYLE,
BUT WE'VE GOT A DIFFERENT
GOAL FOR TODAY.
Shakira says, WE GOT
TO HELP A YOUNG PLAYER MAKE HIS
HOCKEY ROUTINE GREEN.
Kyle asks, DID SOMEBODY MENTION GOALS?
Kyle shoots the ball into the empty net. Red and white text reads, “Goal!!”
[Slapping shot, buzzer, Kyle cheers]
Kyle says, OH, YEAH.
Kyle plays air guitar with his hockey stick.
[Upbeat electric guitar riff, Kyle cheers]
[Upbeat music plays]
The Green Squad smiles. Yellow and red text reads, “Eric.” To the right of the text, Eric holds a reusable shopping bag and smiles. His chin-length black hair is straight and he wears a black t-shirt and brown overalls.
Red and orange text reads, “Lisa.” To the left of the text, Lisa wears her brown hair in small braids. She wears a dark red blouse with white flecks with light blue jeans.
Purple and blue text reads, “Sigfried.” To the right of the text, Sigfried wears a black beret over his pale curly blond hair. He wears a red long-sleeve shirt.
Green and blue text reads, “Shakira.” To the left of the text, Shakira wears a black sweater and ripped blue jeans. A pink floral scarf is knotted around her neck.
Dark and light blue text reads, “Kyle.” To the right of the text, Kyle wears a red backpack. His dark brown hair reaches beneath his ears.
White text reads, “TVOKIDS presents.” Below that, green text with dark green dots reads, “Green.” Below that, pink text reads, “Squad.” The Green Squad poses beneath the text.
Electronic voice sings, GREEN SQUAD.
A boy with straight red hair sits on a carpet by a fireplace. He wears a black long-sleeve shirt and tan pants. His hands are folded over his bent left knee as he casually leans back against sofa. Blue text reads, “Xavier.” The text turns green and disappears.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier says, HI. MY NAME IS XAVIER.
I LIVE WITH MY MOM,
MY DAD, MY THREE SISTERS
AND MY DOG NAMED AXEL.
In a photograph, Xavier poses between his mother and father. They each hold a hockey stick. His father wears a Philadelphia Flyers hockey jersey. Xavier wears a white, black, and red jersey with the number sixty-seven on the chest. His mother wears a striped black, red and white sweater. A shiny sign hanging from the top of an open garage reads, “Happy Birthday.”
In a second photograph, Xavier stands on a log as his mother and three older sisters pose in front of it. The sister on the let wears a floral blouse and black skirt. Her long blonde hair falls over her shoulders. His mother stands to his blonde-haired sister’s left. On his mother’s other side stands a teenager with straight brown hair. She wears a blue denim dress. Beside her stands a woman with curly blonde hair who wears a grey halter top and grey pants.
A third photograph shows Xavier sitting on a hay bale by two pumpkins. He smiles as his tall thin grey dog sits in front of him.
Xavier says, I LIKE TO PLAY BOARD
GAMES, CRIB WITH MY PARENTS,
AND I LIKE TO COOK WITH MY PARENTS
AS WELL.
Axel plays an electric guitar. Animated green music notes and the word “La” fly from the guitar as he play.
[Electric guitar riff]
He says, I LIKE TO PLAY ELECTRIC GUITAR
AS WELL, AND I PLAY ANY KIND OF
MUSIC THAT COMES TO MY MIND.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier says, I LIKE TO PLAY BASEBALL
AND THEN I LIKE TO GOLF
WITH MY FAMILY.
I LOVE ALL KINDS OF SPORTS,
BUT MY FAVORITE,
IT HAS TO BE HOCKEY.
Xavier skates on ice with his teammates. He wears a black helmet and a blue hockey jersey with his name in white on the back and a large red number ten outlined with white. He holds a hockey stick as he skates past pucks scattered on the ice. Xavier hits a puck.
[Whistle, scraping, hockey sticks hit puck]
He says, I'M A HUGE HOCKEY FAN AND
I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR TEN YEARS,
BUT I REALLY WANT MY SPORTS
TO BE MORE ECO FRIENDLY
AND GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.
AND I ALSO WANT TO TRY TO REDUCE
THE AMOUNT OF PLASTIC BOTTLES
THAT HAVE BEEN GETTING
THROWN AWAY.
I SEE THE AMOUNT OF EQUIPMENT
THAT PEOPLE ARE BUYING, BUT
I WANT TO TRY TO REDUCE THAT.
SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO DO
LOADS OF LAUNDRY LIKE
ONCE OR TWICE A DAY, AND THAT'S
NOT INCLUDING ALL OF OUR SPORTS
STUFF THAT WE DO. IT'S USING
UP POWER.
THE REASON I'M CONCERNED
ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT,
IS BECAUSE I KNOW
THAT EARTH IS SUFFERING
BECAUSE OF POLLUTION AND STUFF,
IT'S RUINING THE EARTH.
Xavier hits a puck on the ice.
[Slap shot]
Xavier sits on the carpet by the fireplace. Orange, red, and purple text beside Xavier reads, “You have to help me out!”
Xavier says, SQUAD...
YOU HAVE TO HELP ME OUT.
Kyle, Lisa, and Shakira walk on a street. They wear black fall coats.
[Upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, YOU KNOW XAVIER IS
PRETTY BUSY PLAYING HOCKEY.
BUT HE ALSO FOUND TIME
TO JOIN THE ECO CLUB IN SCHOOL.
Shakira says, THAT'S AWESOME.
ME TOO.
Kyle says, ECO CONSCIOUS AND
LOVES HOCKEY. I THINK WE’RE
GOING TO GET ALONG GREAT.
Lisa says, I'M SO EXCITED TO
MEET YOU XAVIER.
Kyle and Shakira say, ME TOO.
Shakira knocks on a house door.
[Knocking, barking]
Xavier opens the door. Text reads, “Hi.”
Xavier, Shakira, Lisa, and Kyle say, HI.
Xavier says, COME ON IN.
Shakira says, THANK YOU.
NICE TO MEET YOU.
Lisa says, NICE TO MEET YOU.
Xavier says, THIS IS MY FAMILY.
Voices say, HI.
A red arrow points at Xavier’s mother. Green text reads, “Mom.” A blue arrow points at Xavier’s father. Yellow text reads, “Dad.” A light orange arrow points at Xavier’s sister with long blonde hair. Red text reads, “Sister Melodie.”
[Blooping]
Xavier says, THIS IS MY MOM.
THIS IS MY DAD.
AND THAT'S MY SISTER.
Lisa says, NICE TO MEET YOU,
AND WHO'S THIS?
Lisa pets Axel.
Xavier says, THIS IS MY DOG.
HIS NAME IS AXEL.
A yellow arrow points to Axel. Blue text reads, “Dog Axel.”
Lisa says, AWWW.
Kyle says, SO WE HEAR THAT
XAVIER IS A LITTLE SPORTS CRAZY.
WHO DOES HE TAKE AFTER?
Xavier says, THAT'S FROM MY DAD.
[Chuckling]
Xavier’s father says, I'VE BEEN KNOWN
TO HIT THE ICE ONCE IN A WHILE.
Lisa says, OH, THAT'S COOL.
Shakira says, I THINK YOU CAN MAKE
YOUR ICE TIME A LITTLE GREENER.
Lisa asks, READY TO HEAD TO THE ARENA?
Red text over a red and yellow background reads, “Let’s do it!”
Xavier says, YEAH. LET’S DO IT!
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier, Lisa, and Shakira sit on a bench by a sidewalk. Kyle stands behind the bench. Green text reads, “Green.” Pink text reads, “Squad.”
A voice sings, GREEN SQUAD.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier opens a glass door and Lisa enters a building in front of him.
Lisa says, A KEY GOAL ON XAVIER'S
WISH LIST IS TO REDUCE HOW
MANY PLASTIC BOTTLES HIS
TEAM USES.
Lisa says, SO WHAT'S THE BIGGEST
ISSUE THAT YOU WANT TO TACKLE?
Xavier says, PROBABLY ABOUT HOW
THERE'S SO MANY PLASTIC BOTTLES
IN THE GARBAGE CANS.
Lisa says, ALL RIGHT.
WELL, LET'S TAKE A LOOK.
Lisa looks into waste bins.
Lisa says, YEAH,
THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT KINDS
OF SINGLE USE PLASTICS IN HERE.
SO THERE'S LIKE ENERGY DRINK
BOTTLES, SPORTS DRINK BOTTLES.
WHY DO YOU THINK THAT WE'RE
FINDING SO MUCH OF THAT IN HERE?
Xavier says, PROBABLY BECAUSE
YOU NEED TO STAY HYDRATED.
YOU KEEP THE ADRENALINE
PUMPING WHILE PLAYING SPORTS.
Lisa says, YEAH, I MEAN,
I THINK WE CAN BOTH AGREE
HOCKEY IS A PRETTY INTENSE SPORT
AND IT'S SUPER IMPORTANT FOR
ATHLETES TO STAY HYDRATED
WHEN THEY'RE EXERCISING OUT
ON THE ICE.
AND SPORTS DRINKS LIKE THIS CONTAIN
A LOT OF LIKE IMPORTANT MINERALS
LIKE SALTS,WHICH ARE REALLY GOOD
FOR MAINTAINING THE FLUID BALANCE
IN THE BODY.
Xavier says, YEAH. AND PLUS, I LIKE
THEM TO. THEY DO TASTE GOOD.
[Lisa laughs, upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, YEAH, THEY DO.
An animated yellow face licks its lips.
Xavier says, THEY DO TASTE GOOD.
Lisa says, THEY DO TASTE GOOD.
SO I THINK WE JUST NEED TO FIND
A WAY TO HAVE, YOU KNOW, THE
GOOD MINERALS AND THE TASTING
GOOD, BUT ALSO WITHOUT THE SINGLE
USE PLASTIC.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Lisa narrates, NOW, THOSE WERE THE
BOTTLES IN THE RECYCLING BIN.
LET'S LOOK IN THE GARBAGE CAN.
YUP. THERE'S SOME IN HERE, TOO.
Lisa says, A LOT OF THESE PLASTIC
DRINK BOTTLES ARE MADE OUT OF
P.E.T., WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST
RECYCLABLE KINDS OF PLASTIC.
BUT ONLY ONE IN THREE BOTTLES
GETS RECYCLED IN NORTH AMERICA.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS?
Xavier says, STOP USING P.E.T. BOTTLES.
Lisa asks, READY TO HEAD HOME
AND COME UP WITH SOME SOLUTIONS?
They high five.
[Hands slap]
Xavier says, YEAH.
[Whooshing]
Back at Xavier’s house, he and Lisa stand behind a kitchen island. He shakes a plastic bottle and puts it down on the island.
[Gentle music plays]
Xavier says, THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
[Thunk]
Lisa says, FOR SURE,
IT'S THE SINGLE USE PLASTICS.
SO WHAT WE CAN DO TO AVOID USING
THOSE IS WE CAN ACTUALLY BUY
SAME SPORTS DRINK,
BUT IN POWDERED FORM
AND MAKE IT OURSELVES
TO AVOID USING THOSE.
Lisa takes a plastic lid off a can and slides the can towards Xavier.
[Thunk]
Lisa says, OPEN UP THE LID,
AND YOU PUT FIVE SCOOPS OF
POWDER IN THERE.
Xavier and Lisa count, ONE, TWO,
THREE, FOUR, FIVE.
Xavier scoops powder into a juice jug.
Lisa says, YOU GONNA WANNA
TO ADD WATER UP TO THE ONE
LITRE LINE.
Water pours into the jug. Xavier stirs blue liquid with a spoon.
[Sloshing, thumping]
Lisa says, CHEERS.
Lisa and Xavier click their glasses together and sip the drink.
[Clinking]
Lisa says, THAT'S GOOD.
SO DO YOU NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN THE REGULAR ONE
AND POWDERED ONE?
Xavier says, NO, NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL.
Lisa says, YEAH, ME NEITHER.
SO THERE'S ACTUALLY AN EVEN
BETTER OPTION, WHICH IS TO MAKE
OUR OWN SPORTS DRINKS.
Xavier says, THAT'S GOING TO BE INTERESTING.
Lisa says, OKAY, SO TO START, WE'RE GOING
TO NEED HALF A CUP OF SUGAR.
THERE WE GO.
Xavier pours sugar and salt into a glass measuring cup. Purple text over a dark orange background reads, “One half cup equals one hundred and twenty-five millilitres.” “One half teaspoon equals two point five millilitres.”
[Blooping]
Lisa says, AND THEN WE NEED
HALF A TEASPOON OF SALT.
Lisa pours water into the measuring cup. Purple text over a dark orange background reads, “One cup equals two hundred and fifty mililitres.”
[Sloshing]
Lisa says, AND THEN WE'RE GOING
TO ADD A CUP OF HOT WATER
TO GET THIS ALL TO DISSOLVE.
Xavier stirs the liquid with a metal spoon. Purple text over a dark orange background reads, “One cup equals two hundred and fifty mililitres.” “Two tablespoons equals sixty mililitres.”
[Clinking, pouring water]
Lisa says, NOW WE WILL POUR IT INTO A JUG
AND ADD ONE CUP OF ORANGE JUICE
AND SOME LEMON JUICE.
Lisa and Xavier tap glasses and sip the juice.
[Clink, lips smack]
Xavier says, IT'S NOT AS GOOD
AS THE OTHER ONE
BECAUSE AT THE BEGINNING
IT DIDN'T TASTE AS GOOD.
IT MOSTLY JUST TASTED LEMON
AND SALT. THEN AFTER THAT,
THE TASTE STARTED TO KICK IN.
AND YOU GOT THE GOOD PART.
Lisa says, YEAH, IT'S PRETTY GOOD.
SO I WOULD SAY THAT
OUR MAKE YOUR OWN SPORTS
DRINK WAS A SUCCESS.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Xavier says, I THINK IT WENT WELL. YEAH.
Lisa says, AGREED.
NOW, FOR THE REAL TEST, LET'S
TRY IT OUT WITH YOUR TEAMMATES.
Hockey plays skate on the ice.
[Hockey sticks slap ice, upbeat music plays]
Lisa and Shakira stand beside white board with two headings on it, “Drink A” and “Drink B.” Blue text beneath Lisa reads, “Drink A – Blue Powdered Sports Drink.” Green text beside that reads, “Vs.” Red text beneath Shakira reads, “Drink B – Red Homemade Version.”
Lisa says, SO I THINK WE'RE READY
FOR THE TASTE TEST TO START.
IT'LL BE INTERESTING TO SEE
WHICH DRINKS THE PLAYERS
LIKE BETTER.
Shakira says, I'M BETTING ON BLUE
BUT I'M GOING TO KEEP SCORE
AND SEE.
A player skates to the side of the rink and Lisa gives him a drink.
Lisa says, ALL RIGHT.
AND NOW THIS ONE.
The player tries a second drink.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
The player says, A.
A blue letter “A” appears.
Lisa says, A. OKAY.
Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink A” heading.
Players sit on a bench and try the drinks.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
A second player says, A.
Lisa says, WHAT ABOUT YOU?
A third player says, A.
A blue letter “A” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink A” heading.
Lisa says, OKAY, PERFECT.
THANK YOU.
OK, A OR B?
A blue letter “A” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink A” heading.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
A third player says, B.
Lisa says, B, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
A red letter “B” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink B” heading.
Lisa asks, A OR B?
A fourth player says, B.
A red letter “B” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink B” heading.
Lisa asks, WHAT ABOUT YOU?
A fifth player says, B.
A red letter “B” appears. Shakira puts a checkmark under the “Drink B” heading.
[Background shouting]
Shakira says, B, IT S ALMOST A TIE.
I REALLY THOUGHT THAT
A WAS GONNA WIN
BUT B IS CATCHING UP SO....
Lisa says, GAME'S GETTING CLOSE.
Xavier tries the drinks.
Xavier says, A.
Lisa asks, WHICH ONE WON?
Blue text reads, “Blue.”
Xavier says, Blue.
Lisa says, THAT WAS THE
ONE THAT WE MADE WITH, LIKE,
THE POWDER AND THE WATER. RIGHT.
Lisa says, AND THEN DRINK B WAS
THE ONE THAT WE MADE HOMEMADE.
SO NOW YOU'VE GOT TO
CONVINCE YOUR TEAM.
SO YOU HAVE A COMPETITION
OF WHOEVER CAN AVOID
BRINGING THE MOST SINGLE USE
PLASTIC BOTTLES OVER THE
ENTIRE SEASON.
[Slap shots]
Shakira says, YOU CAN EVEN MAKE
A TALLY CHART LIKE THIS ONE
IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM.
Xavier says, WE COULD HAVE A
COMPETITION IN BETWEEN THE
LINES AT SOME POINT TOO.
Lisa says, YEAH. THAT WOULD
BE GOOD.
AND ALL THE DIFFERENT LINES
CAN COMPETE, AND WHOEVER AVOIDS
USING THE MOST SINGLE USE
PLASTIC BOTTLES WOULD WIN.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Lisa says, SO NOW THAT WE HAVE
THAT SORTED, KYLE'S GOING TO
HELP YOU WITH SOMETHING
A LITTLE LESS SWEET SMELLING.
Xavier nods.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
Lisa narrates, XAVIOR WANTS
HIS TEAM TO SEND PLASTIC BOTTLES
TO THE PENALTY BOX FOREVER.
Lisa holds an animated sign that reads, “Penalty!!”
[Whistle, upbeat music continues]
Lisa narrates, IN THE SPORTS WORLD,
THERE'S PLASTIC ALMOST EVERYWHERE.
NOT JUST PLASTIC BOTTLES,
BUT LOTS OF ORGANIZATIONS ARE
STEPPING UP THEIR GREEN GAME.
[Bat hits ball]
Lisa narrates, A PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL
TEAM IS DOING AWAY
WITH PLASTIC STRAWS
AT THEIR HOME GAMES
THAT COULD GET RID OF
TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND
STRAWS IN JUST ONE SEASON.
The number two hundred thousand flashes.
Lisa says, HOME RUN.
SUPPLIER OF CLOTHES AND FOOTWEAR
FOR A MAJOR SAILING COMPETITION
REDUCED ITS PACKAGING BY HALF.
IT SAVED OVER ELEVEN THOUSAND
KILOGRAMS OF PLASTIC EACH YEAR.
The number eleven thousand flashes. Text reads, “Ahoy!”
Lisa says, AND AT A RECENT OLYMPIC GAMES,
MILLIONS OF RECYCLED PLASTIC BOTTLES
WERE USED TO MAKE SIXTY-SEVEN
HUNDRED STADIUM SEATS.
BIG WIN! BIG SALLY. TAP DANCE.
[Upbeat music plays]
A voice sings, GREEN SQUAD.
Kyle narrates, PLAYING SPORTS, ADDS
TO THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY
THAT XAVIER S FAMILY USES TO DO
LAUNDRY. SO LET'S CHECK OUT
WHAT'S IN YOUR HOCKEY BAG.
In his house, Xavier drops his hockey bag on the floor.
[Thump, zipper unzips]
Xavier says, THERE YOU GO.
Kyle sniffs a piece of clothing. Animated green vapour rises from it.
Kyle says, OH!
Xavier asks, THAT BAD?
Kyle says, WORSE.
Xavier says, WOW. OKAY.
WE'VE GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO.
ARE YOU THE ONE THAT DOES
YOUR LAUNDRY NORMALLY?
Xavier says, I MEAN, IT IS MY
EQUIPMENT, SO, YEAH.
Kyle says, EXCELLENT.
YOU'VE BEEN TRAINED WELL,
BUT I THINK WE CAN FIX
YOUR LAUNDRY ROUTINE
TO MAKE IT CLEAN AND GREEN.
Xavier says, ALL RIGHT.
Text reads, “Laundry. Green Squad Style.”
[Bubbling, upbeat music plays, beeping]
Kyle says, STEP ONE.
TURN IT TO COLD.
TURNING THE TEMPERATURE DOWN
ACTUALLY USES LESS ENERGY.
YOU CAN ACTUALLY SAVE
SEVEN HUNDRED KILOGRAMS
OF CARBON DIOXIDE PER YEAR
BY PUTTING IT ON COLD.
Text reads, “Seven hundred kilograms of carbon dioxide.”
Kyle explains, THAT'S THE EQUIVALENT
OF LIKE, FOURTEEN XAVIERS.
Fourteen small Xaviers stand together wearing their hockey uniforms.
[Popping]
Xavier says, WOW.
Kyle holds a bottle of laundry detergent.
Kyle says, STEP TWO.
THE THING ABOUT THESE IS THAT
A LOT OF THESE ARE ACTUALLY
NOT RECYCLED.
OVER SIX HUNDRED MILLION LAUNDRY
DETERGENT BOTTLES ACTUALLY END
UP IN LANDFILLS OVER THE COURSE
OF A YEAR.
Text reads, “Six hundred million.”
Kyle says, SO THERE ACTUALLY
IS A COUPLE OF ALTERNATIVES.
Text reads, “Laundry strips.” An orange arrow points to a package in Kyle’s hand.
Kyle says, OUR FIRST ONE IS LAUNDRY
STRIPS. THEY COME IN THIS COMPOSTABLE
CARDBOARD PACKAGING AND ALL YOU
NEED TO DO IS RIP THEM UP, THROW
THEM INSIDE YOUR WASHING MACHINE
AND THOSE CONCENTRATED SOAP STRIPS
WILL CLEAN EVERYTHING UP.
[Rustling]
Xavier asks, THIS?
Kyle says, YEAH. SO
YOU'RE GOING TO RIP THEM UP
TO LITTLE TINY PIECES
AND JUST THROW THEM ALL IN
AND THEY'LL DISSOLVE INSIDE.
Xavier asks, THAT EASY?
Kyle replies, THAT EASY.
THAT'S IT. DONE.
[Machine door slams]
Kyle says, STEP TWO, ANOTHER OPTION.
[Bubbling, upbeat music plays]
Xavier and Kyle sit at the kitchen island.
Xavier asks, ARE WE'RE REALLY GOING TO
MAKE OUR OWN LAUNDRY SOAP?
ABSOLUTELY. AND IT'S ACTUALLY
WAY EASIER THAN YOU THINK.
YOU ONLY NEED THREE INGREDIENTS.
THE FIRST WASHING SODA.
THIS IS JUST GOING TO SOFTEN UP
THE WATER.
Text reads, “One and a half cups equals three hundred and seventy-five millilitres.”
Kyle says, THEN WE'RE ALSO GOING TO ADD
BAKING SODA AND EPSOM SALT.
Text reads, “One and a half cups equals three hundred and seventy-five millilitres.” “One half cup equals one hundred and twenty-five millilitres.”
Kyle says, THE GREAT THING ABOUT
THIS IS THAT THERE'S NO HARMFUL
ADDITIVES. YOU CAN MAKE IT AT HOME
AND IT'S SUPER SIMPLE TO MAKE.
ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS GIVE IT
A GOOD SHAKE. PERFECT.
IF WE'RE DOING A WARM WATER
WASH OR A HOT WATER WASH,
WE WON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING.
WE'LL JUST THROW IT RIGHT IN.
BUT SINCE WE'RE DOING
THE COLD WATER WASH,
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO
DISSOLVE IT IN HOT WATER FIRST.
[Tapping, bubbling]
In the laundry room, Kyle opens the washing machine.
[Click]
Kyle says, SO NOW THAT
OUR FIRST LOAD IS DONE,
NOW WE GET TO THE DRYING PART.
Xavier says, AND WE'RE GOING
TO AIR DRY BECAUSE IT'S BETTER
FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, RIGHT?
Kyle says, ABSOLUTELY.
SO NOW WE'RE GOING TO USE
THE HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP
AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO PUT
THIS WHERE WE WOULD NORMALLY
PUT DETERGENT AND NOW PUT ON
ANOTHER COLD WASH.
[Beeping]
Xavier says, TURN THIS UP TO COLD.
Kyle says, ONE MORE WASH AND
WE'RE READY FOR THE SNIFF TEST.
[Bubbling]
Later, Shakira, Lisa, Xavier’s father, Melodie, Xavier’s mother, Kyle and Xavier stand by the kitchen island.
[Upbeat music plays]
Kyle says, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
WELCOME TO THE SNIFF TEST.
TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO BE COMPARING
ECO FRIENDLY LAUNDRY METHODS.
AND JUST TO COMPARE,
WE ALSO HAVE THIS UNWASHED,
TERRIBLE SMELLING LAUNDRY
THAT WE HAVEN'T DONE YET.
SO WE'RE JUST GOING TO SNIFF
THAT FIRST. AND YOU'RE GOING
TO GIVE ME A SCORE OUT OF TEN.
[Shakira gags, Lisa giggles]
Lisa says, YEAH.
THAT'S NOT GOOD.
I'M GOING TO GIVE IT A ONE.
Text reads, “One slash ten.”
Lisa says, YOU REALLY GOT
A GOOD WHIFF THERE.
Xavier’s father says, YEAH.
Melodie says, UGH.
Xavier says, A SIX.
Text reads, “Six slash ten.”
[Laughter]
Kyle says, IT SOUNDS LIKE UNWASHED
CLOTHING. PRETTY LOW SCORE.
SO LET'S SEE WHAT WASHED
LOAD NUMBER ONE SMELLS LIKE.
THIS WAS WASHED USING AN ECO
FRIENDLY LAUNDRY MATERIAL.
LET'S SEE HOW IT DID.
Everyone sniff a shirt.
Shakira says, OH, IT SMELLS REALLY GOOD.
Lisa says, YEAH, SMELLS NICE.
Xavier’s father says, THAT DOES SMELL NICE.
I GIVE IT A NINE.
Text reads, “Nine slash ten.”
Kyle says, SO IT SOUNDS LIKE
IT SMELLS CLEAN, BUT DO YOU
GUYS THINK IT LOOKS CLEAN?
Xavier’s father says, YEAH, LOOKS GOOD.
Lisa says, LOOKS LIKE TO ME, EVEN LIKE.
THE WHITES LOOK REALLY WHITE.
Melodie says, WOW IT SMELLS
REALLY GOOD.
Xavier’s mother says, OH WOW,
IT DOES SMELL GOOD.
[Xaviers inhales and exhales deeply]
Kyle says, SO ACROSS THE BOARD,
WE'VE SEEN SOME HIGH SCORES
FROM THE FIRST ECO
FRIENDLY METHOD.
SO THIS IS OUR SECOND ECO
FRIENDLY LAUNDRY METHOD.
Shakira says, OH, IT ALSO SMELLS REALLY GOOD.
I GIVE IT AN EIGHT. I LIKE THE OTHER
ONE EVEN BETTER BUT THIS ONE
ALSO SMELLS REALLY GOOD.
Text reads, “Eight slash ten.”
Lisa says, ALSO GOOD.
I DO LIKE THE OTHER ONE BETTER.
Xavier’s father says, YEAH, I AGREE.
I LIKE THE OTHER ONE BETTER.
I GIVE THIS A SEVEN.
Text reads, “Seven slash ten.”
Melodie says, I KIND OF LIKED
THIS ONE BETTER BECAUSE IT
DIDN'T SMELL VERY STRONG.
JUST SMELT LIKE CLEAN.
Xavier’s mother says, I'M WITH MELODIE
ON THIS ONE. I LIKE THIS ONE BETTER.
Melodie says, GIVE IT A TEN.
Text reads, “Ten slash ten.”
Xavier’s mother says, YEAH.
Kyle says, NOW WE'RE GOING TO
SHOW YOU WHAT WE USE.
DRUM ROLL, PLEASE.
[Hands slap island]
Kyle says, FOR OUR FIRST BATCH.
WE HAVE THESE LAUNDRY STRIPS.
THESE WERE WHAT YOU GUYS
THOUGHT WAS SO GREAT.
GOT AN AVERAGE SCORE OF NINE,
AND THEY WERE SUPER EASY TO USE.
WEREN'T THEY XAV?
Xavier says, YEAH.
Kyle says, LET'S MOVE ON TO THE
SECOND ONE. WE GOT LAUNDRY SOAP,
WE ACTUALLY, XAV AND I, MADE
THIS OURSELVES.
SOME OF YOU GUYS WEREN'T
CRAZY ABOUT IT,
BUT OTHERS GAVE IT
A TEN OUT OF TEN.
I THOUGHT THIS ONE SMELT
GREAT AS WELL. GOOD JOB.
Xavier says, YOU DON'T NEED STINK
TO BE ECOFRIENDLY.
Xavier and Kyle high five.
[Xavier cheers, hands slap]
Shakira says, THAT'S AWESOME.
ARE YOU READY FOR THIRD PERIOD?
Xavier says, YEAH I AM.
Shakira says, I HAVE A REALLY
FUN CHALLENGE FOR YOU.
Xavier says, LET’S DO IT.
[Upbeat music plays]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Kyle says, I LOVE THE SMELL
OF FRESH LAUNDRY.
XAVIER'S ECO FRIENDLY WASHING
ROUTINE PASSED EVERYONE'S
SNIFF TEST WITH FLYING COLORS
AND AIR DRYING HIS CLOTHES
INSTEAD OF THROWING THEM
IN THE DRYER, ALSO HELPS THE
ENVIRONMENT IN A BIG WAY.
HANGING CLOTHES OUTSIDE
OR ON A RACK IN THE HOUSE
CAN REDUCE HOUSEHOLD CARBON
FOOTPRINT BY....WAIT...
HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK?
TWO HUNDRED KILOGRAMS A YEAR.
Text reads, “Two hundred kilograms.”
[Clicking, beep]
Kyle says, NO. HIGHER.
HIGHER THAN THAT.
[Whooshing, clicking, beep]
Text reads, “Eleven hundred kilograms.”
Kyle says, IT CAN REDUCE IT BY A MASSIVE
ELEVEN HUNDRED KILOGRAMS A YEAR.
THAT'S THE WEIGHT OF SIXTY-FIVE
HUNDRED HOCKEY PUCKS.
I WONDER HOW FAST I COULD SHOOT
THAT MANY PUCKS?
START THE TIMER.
PWEM. PWEM. PWEM.
Kyle hits the puck.
[Slap shots]
Xavier, Lisa Kyle, and Shakira pose together. Yellow and red text below them reads, “Green Squad.”
A voice says, GREEN SQUAD.
[Upbeat music plays]
In his house, Shakira watches Xavier carry his hockey bag.
Shakira says, XAVIER'S ALSO CONCERNED
ABOUT ALL THE NEW HOCKEY
EQUIPMENT PLAYERS NEED EVERY YEAR.
BUT THERE'S A SOLUTION.
[Thunk]
Shakira says, WOW.
SO WHAT'S THE CHALLENGE HERE?
Xavier says, TRYING TO REDUCE THE
AMOUNT OF HOCKEY EQUIPMENT
YOU HAVE TO BUY EACH YEAR.
Shakira asks, DO YOU WANT TO START
OFF BY SHOWING ME WHAT YOU HAVE
TO WEAR FOR HOCKEY?
Xavier says, ALRIGHT.
Xavier takes equipment out of his bag and puts it on.
Shakira narrates, BUYING NEW EQUIPMENT
MEANS MORE PLASTICS IN THE WORLD
AND THE MANUFACTURING
AND SHIPPING CAUSE POLLUTION.
Shakira says, SO WHAT'S
WITH THE MISMATCHED SOCKS?
Xavier says, SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
I JUST CAN'T PLAY HOCKEY IF I'M
NOT WEARING MISMATCHED SOCKS.
[Shakira laughs]
Shakira says, IT’S YOUR GOOD LUCK CHARM.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Shakira says, ANYTHING WE CAN
DO TO REDUCE OVERCONSUMPTION
MEANS LESS TO THROW AWAY
IN LANDFILLS.
Shakira says, SO YOU'VE BEEN
PLAYING HOCKEY SINCE YOU'RE,
LIKE, THIS HIGH, RIGHT?
Shakira holds out her hand. Xavier pushes it down to thigh level.
Xavier says, THIS HIGH.
[Shakira laughs]
Shakira says, WOW, THAT'S MANY,
MANY YEARS.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE TO BUY
ALL THIS EQUIPMENT?
Xavier says, I SAY EVERY YEAR, ALMOST.
Shakira asks, WHAT DO YOU DO
WITH IT WHEN YOU'RE DONE?
Xavier replies, WE JUST KEEP IN
THE GARAGE.
Shakira says, SO I KNOW
YOU ALREADY HAVE A PLAN ON
HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM.
WHAT IS IT?
Xavier says, SO BASICALLY,
I INVITE ALL OF MY FRIENDS
OVER OR PEOPLE I KNOW WHO
PLAY HOCKEY AND BASICALLY
THEY BRING THEIR EQUIPMENT
OR EQUIPMENT THAT DOESN'T
FIT THEM ANYMORE AND WE
JUST SWAP IT.
[Thumping]
Xavier says, SO BASICALLY AN
EQUIPMENT SWAP.
Shakira says, THAT'S A REALLY
GOOD IDEA.
WHY DON'T YOU USE YOUR DAD'S
PHONE TO INVITE THEM OVER?
Text reads, “Equipment swap.” “Okay!” “Can’t wait.” “So fun!” “Yay! Gear Swap!” “Epic.”
[Popping, upbeat music continues]
Xavier says, LET'S DO IT.
Lisa, Xavier, and Shakira stand in a garage. Piles of hockey gear lie on a plastic table.
Lisa asks, SO WHERE
DOES ALL THIS STUFF COME FROM?
Xavier says, IT COMES FROM ME
AND MY PARENTS AND MY SISTERS.
Shakira says, WHAT DO YOU THINK
WE SHOULD DO? A ONE FOR ONE SWAP
OR TAKE WHAT YOU NEED?
Xavier says, TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.
LEAVE WHAT YOU DON'T NEED.
Shakira says, GREAT TIME OF THE
YEAR TO DO THIS. IT'S THE HOLIDAY
SEASON COMING UP, SO IT'S LIKE
GIVING GIFTS TO YOUR TEAMMATES.
[Upbeat music continues]
Shakira says, WELCOME TO THE EQUIPMENT SWAP.
A girl backs into the garage. She drags a large red bag.
[Thumping]
Lisa says, HI!
Shakira says, SO YOU CAN TAKE THE
PIECES YOU WANT TO GIVE AWAY
AND PUT THEM ON THIS TABLE.
AND THEN YOU CAN TAKE A LOOK
AROUND AND SEE WHAT YOU WANT.
Xavier says, ALL RIGHT? YEAH.
GOT SOME SKATES.
A teenager says, MAINLY GLOVES
AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT.
Shakira says, THESE GLOVES ARE PRETTY COOL.
A young teenager laces up a pair of skates.
Shakira asks, HOW DO THEY FEEL?
YOU LIKE THEM? PRETTY COOL.
Lisa says, GOOD FIT, GOOD JOB.
A young teenager with short light brown hair tries on a chest protector.
Lisa asks, FEELS GOOD.
FEEL LIKE YOU CAN
PLAY HOCKEY IN IT?
The teenager with short brown hair says, YEAH.
[Thump]
Shakira says, LOOK AT THAT,
YOU HAVE A FULL NEW UNIFORM.
Text reads, “Equipment Swap.”
[Whoosh, upbeat music continues]
Shakira narrates, MOST OF THESE
HOCKEY KIDS FOUND SOMETHING
THAT THEY NEEDED THAT FIT THEM.
AND THAT MEANS THEY WON'T NEED
TO BUY THEM BRAND NEW,
WHICH IS GREAT FOR THE PLANET.
Shakira asks, SO, XAVIER,
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT
YOUR FIRST EVER EQUIPMENT SWAP?
Xavier says, I THINK IT WENT WELL.
WE GOT THIS GUY
NEW ENTIRE GEAR, SO.
[Thumping]
Lisa says, HEAD TO TOE.
Shakira says, AND YOU FOUND SOME
PIECES, TOO, BEFORE, RIGHT?
Xavier says, YEAH, I FOUND SOME GLOVES.
Shakira asks, WOULD YOU WANT TO DO
AN EQUIPMENT SWAP EVERY SEASON?
Xavier says, YEAH, I WOULD.
AND WOULD YOU ALL COME?
Teenagers shout, YEAH!
Red text on a red and yellow burst reads, “Yeah!” “Yeah!” “Yeah!”
[Upbeat music plays, cheering]
Shakira, Sigfried, Eric, Kyle, and Lisa dance. Yellow and red text above them reads, “Green Beat.”
[Upbeat music continues]
Shakira narrates, SUCCESSFUL EQUIPMENT
SWAP, CHECK!
[Ding]
She asks, BUT WHAT ABOUT STUFF
YOU CAN'T SWAP?
LIKE BROKEN HOCKEY STICKS?
I'M SURE KYLE HAS BROKEN A FEW.
[Rattling]
Kyle narrates, HEY. THAT'S BECAUSE OF MY
AMAZINGLY POWERFUL SLAP SHOT.
[Slap shot]
Shakira rolls her eyes.
She narrates, OBVI.
MOST STICKS ARE MADE OF
MATERIALS THAT DON'T DECOMPOSE,
BUT THERE ARE COMPANIES
THAT UPCYCLE THEM INTO THINGS
LIKE CHAIRS, BOTTLE OPENERS
AND BARBECUE TOOLS.
OTHER SPORTS EQUIPMENT
CAN CLOG UP LANDFILLS, TOO.
[Popping]
She asks, DID YOU KNOW THAT MORE
THAN THREE HUNDRED MILLION
TENNIS BALLS ARE MANUFACTURED
EVERY YEAR AROUND THE WORLD?
MILLIONS OF THEM
ARE THROWN AWAY.
THE GOOD NEWS
IS THAT MAJOR TENNIS
EVENTS ARE BREAKING
DOWN, USED BALLS
AND INCORPORATING THEM
INTO COURT SURFACES.
GAME, SET, MATCH.
Kyle, Xavier, Shakira and Lisa sit on a bench. Xavier waves.
[Upbeat music plays]
Green text reads, “Green.” Pink text reads, “Squad.”
In the garage, Shakira moves equipment on the table. She turns to Xavier and Lisa.
[Upbeat music continues]
Shakira says, NOT MUCH LEFT.
I THINK THOSE ARE A SUCCESS.
HOW DO YOU. FEEL?
Xavier says, I FEEL GREAT.
A LOT OF PEOPLE SHOWED UP.
EVERYONE FOUND
WHAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR
AND THERE'S NOT MUCH LEFT.
Lisa says, GREAT JOB.
SO WE'LL BE CHECKING BACK IN
TO SEE HOW EVERYTHING GOES.
AND I HOPE YOUR LINE WINS
THE COMPETITION TO AVOID
USING SINGLE USE PLASTICS
AND MAKE YOUR OWN SPORTS DRINKS.
Xavier says, YEAH.
Shakira says, AND KEEP
US POSTED ON THE LAUNDRY.
Xavier says, YEAH.
[Chuckling]
Lisa says, SO IT'S BEEN FUN.
Shakira says, SUPER FUN.
WE'LL CHECK IN A FEW WEEKS.
Lisa, Xavier, and Shakira high five.
[Hands slap, Shakira cheers]
Red and blue text reads, “Squad Tip.”
[Upbeat music plays]
Lisa says, YOU HERE ARE A FEW
TIPS TO MAKE YOUR TRIP
TO THE GROCERY STORE
MORE ECO FRIENDLY.
MY NEAREST GROCERY
STORE IS A CLOSE DRIVE,
BUT IT'S TOO FAR TO WALK.
SO. I LIKE TO RIDE MY BIKE.
IT WAS A BIT DIFFICULT
AT FIRST FIGURING OUT
HOW TO RIDE MY BIKE AND
CARRY GROCERIES, BUT NOW
I HAVE BACKPACK, SO
I'M CARRYING LOTS OF GROCERIES
AND IT DOESN'T INTERFERE
WITH MY RIDING AT ALL.
YOU CAN ALSO ADD A CARRY
ATTACHMENT TO YOUR BIKE
IF YOU WANT TO CARRY
EVEN MORE GROCERIES
OR IF YOUR GROCERY STORE
IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE,
YOU CAN USE A TROLLEY.
ANOTHER GREAT GROCERY STORE
TIP IS TO USE REUSABLE PRODUCE BAGS.
THE PRODUCE BAGS THAT THEY
HAVE AT THE GROCERY STORE
ARE MADE FROM SINGLE USE
PLASTICS THAT GET THROWN
AWAY RIGHT AFTER THEY'RE USED.
I STARTED USING REUSABLE PRODUCE
BAGS BECAUSE WHEN I GO TO THE
GROCERY STORE, I BUY LOTS OF
DIFFERENT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.
BUT ALL THOSE DIFFERENT KINDS
OF PRODUCE HAVE TO BE SEPARATED
BECAUSE THEY COST DIFFERENT AMOUNTS.
SO WHEN I LOOK AT MY CART AND I SAW
ALL THESE SINGLE USE PLASTICS,
I KNEW THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY.
SO NOW I USE THIS
REUSABLE PRODUCE BAG
SO THAT I CAN PICK UP MY FRUITS
AND VEGETABLES IN THE MOST ECO
FRIENDLY WAY POSSIBLE.
[Upbeat music plays]
The Green Squad poses. Blue and green text reads, “Check-in.”
Kyle, Signfried, Lisa, Eric, and Shakira sit on a couch. A tablet is propped up on a wooden table in front of them.
Kyle says, LET'S SEE
IF XAVIER REACHED
HIS ECO “GOALS”.
Kyle makes air quotes as he says “Goals.”
[Groaning]
Eric says, I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.
Xavier appears on the tablet screen.
[Upbeat music plays]
Xavier says, IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN
HAVING THE HOMEMADE POWDER
AND DRINKS.
AND USING MY OWN BOTTLES A LOT
LATELY AND YEAH, IT WAS FUN.
I MISS KYLE THOUGH.
[Water pours, thumping, Lisa laughs]
Kyle says, THANK YOU.
Xavier says, I'VE BEEN USING
THE POWDERED SPORTS DRINK A LOT.
I FEEL LIKE I'M I WILL NEED
TO PERSUADE SOME OF MY
TEAMMATES TO STOP USING
SINGLE USE BOTTLES.
THAT'S GONNA BE A
STRUGGLE THOUGH.
FOR THE LINE RACE
I HAVE A GOOD FEELING
LIKE MY TEAM’S GOING TO WIN.
[Chuckling]
Xavier says, GOOD LUCK.
Sigfried says, IT CAN BE REALLY DIFFICULT
TO PERSUADE OTHER PEOPLE,
ESPECIALLY MAKING LIFE CHANGES
LIKE THIS.
SO IT DOESN'T SURPRISE ME
THAT HE'S GOING TO HAVE
A HARD TIME WITH IT,
BUT HOPEFULLY HE'S UP
TO THE CHALLENGE.
Eric says, YEAH, I LOVE HIS ATTITUDE
AND ATTITUDE ABOUT THE SPORT
AND HIS TEAMMATES,
PERSUADING HIS TEAMMATES.
Lisa adds, EVEN EVEN THE
LINE COMPETITION.
Eric says, I MEAN, YOU CAN TELL
HE'S GOING TO BE A GREAT
HOCKEY CAPTAIN.
Kyle says, OH, YEAH. AND YOU KNOW WHAT?
I THINK HE'S GOING TO WIN
THE LINE RACE, I BELIEVE IT.
Shakira says, I THINK THAT TOO.
On the tablet, Xavier points to a load of laundry.
Kyle says, EW.
Xavier says, HEY SQUAD, ME AND MY
FAMILY, WE'VE GOTTEN USED TO
USING THE LAUNDRY STRIPS NOW.
WE'VE BEEN USING THEM FOR,
I'M PRETTY SURE, EVERY SINGLE
LOAD THAT WE'VE DONE.
MY CLOTHES, I DON'T THINK THEY'VE
BEEN SMELLING THAT BAD.
[Laughter]
Kyle says, OH, NO, THEY SMELL BAD.
Xavier says, I'D HAVE TO ASK MY
SISTER BUT I DON'T THINK SHE
WANTS TO DO ANOTHER SNIFF TEST
BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T ENJOY THE
LAST ONE.
[Laughter, click, beeping]
Xavier says, WE’VE BEEN USING THE CLOTHING
RACK, WHICH IS RIGHT BEHIND ME
TO HANG ALL OF OUR STUFF TO DRY.
[Dinging]
Xavier says, YEAH, YEAH.
NOW WE JUST WATCH
SATISFYING LAUNDRY.
[Laughter]
Kyle says, THE LAUNDRY STRIPS
ARE SUCH A GREAT WAY
TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW,
YOU'RE HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT
AND ALSO NOT TAKING OUT
EVERYBODY IN THE HOUSE
WITH THIS TERRIBLE ODOR.
[Laughter]
Lisa says, AS LONG AS THE STRIPS
GET THE SMELL OUT. PERFECT.
Shakira says, AND I THINK IT'S ALSO
REALLY GREAT HE'S USING THE
CLOTHING RACK TO TO DRY.
THAT'S REALLY, REALLY COOL
THAT HE'S INCORPORATING
THAT AS WELL.
Xavier says, JUST WANT TO TALK
ABOUT THE EQUIPMENT SWAP.
I THINK IT WENT REALLY WELL.
MY FRIENDS REALLY ENJOYED IT.
I FEEL LIKE MAYBE NEXT YEAR
I COULD ALSO DO A SWAP OF
LIKE BASEBALL EQUIPMENT,
TENNIS RACKETS, FOOTBALL,
ANY KIND OF SPORTS.
Shakira says, THE CLOTHING
SWAP WE DID TOGETHER.
AND IT WAS SO SUCCESSFUL.
SO I FEEL LIKE HE CAN INSPIRE
ALL HIS OTHER TEAMMATES
AND OTHER TEAMS AS WELL.
Sigfried says, ANOTHER GOOD
EXAMPLE THAT'S SECOND
HAND IS LIKE A FANTASTIC WAY
TO GO.
Shakira says, YEAH.
Xavier says, ANOTHER WAY
I COULD BECOME MORE GREEN
IS MAYBE CARPOOL WITH MY FRIENDS
TO GO TO THE HOCKEY ARENA
BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF ROOM
IN MY DAD’S TRUCK.
SO YOU COULD PUT LIKE THREE
HOCKEY BAGS AND I COULD CARPOOL
WITH MY FRIENDS.
Kyle says, I THINK THE FACT THAT HE'S
COMING UP WITH ALL THESE IDEAS,
ESPECIALLY THE CARPOOLING,
WHICH IS A GREAT IDEA,
HE'S REALLY ON TRACK TO BECOME
A GREAT ENVIRONMENTALIST.
Shakira says, AND IT SHOWS HOW
MUCH HE'S GROWN AS A LEADER.
YOU KNOW, WE JUST GAVE HIM
THE LITTLE SEEDS, BUT HE REALLY
MADE EVERYTHING GROW.
AND HONESTLY,
I'M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY WITH
HOW EVERYTHING TURNED OUT.
Lisa says, I THINK
HE REALLY REACHED HIS GOALS.
[Chuckling]
Kyle says, AND HE WAS DEFINITELY
ON THE BALL.
The Green Squad cheers, XAVIER SCORES!
End credits roll.
[Upbeat music plays]
A child says, WHEE!
Colourful text reads, “tvo kids.”
[Child giggles]
A blue eye peers out of the Apartment Eleven Productions logo. Text beneath it reads, “Apartment Eleven Productions.”
[Squeaking]
