In an animation, a garbologist with brown hair and a brown beard drives a small truck through a garbage dump. The truck's roof has a propeller and a solar panel. A wide broom is on the truck's underside. On the side are a tool panel, a vacuum hose, a garbage bin, recycling bins for food and electronic waste, and a blue bin for paper, cans, and bottles.

[Upbeat music plays]

The garbologist says, YOU WANNA KNOW A SECRET? SOME OF THE BEST STORIES CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR STINKY, SLIMY, ROTTEN TRASH. DON'T BELIEVE ME? CHECK THIS OUT!

The truck takes off. Smiling garbage gathers.

Title: Garbology.

[Whirring, upbeat music continues]

The garbologist lands his truck by an open box on a street.

[Thumping, music ends, birds chirping]

The garbologist says, LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO THE CRAYON.

He holds a green crayon nub.

The garbologist says, HI, ARE YOU FEELING OKAY?

The crayon asks, WHY DO YOU ASK?

The garbologist says, BECAUSE YOU LOOK A LITTLE GREEN.

[Drum rim shot plays]

The crayon says, NEVER HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE. I'M JEALOUS OF YOUR SENSE OF HUMOUR.

The garbologist asks, REALLY?

The crayon says, CAN'T YOU TELL? I'M GREEN WITH ENVY!

[Crayon giggling]

The garbologist says, NICE ONE. WHY DON'T YOU TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?

The crayon says, I HAVE LED A CHARMED LIFE.

A drawing features a factory with solar panels on the roof.

[Whistle blowing]

The crayon says, I WAS MANUFACTURED IN A FACTORY OUT OF PARAFFIN, WHICH IS A TYPE OF WAX, AND PIGMENT, WHICH IS THE COLOUR.

An equation shows a bar of paraffin wax plus a pile of green pigment equals the green crayon. The crayon opens its eyes in a crayon box.

[Popping]

The crayon says, BUT WHEN I LEARNED I WAS GREEN, I HAVE TO ADMIT I WASN'T THRILLED. WHY COULDN'T I BE RED OR GOLD OR PERIWINKLE?

In the crayon box, the red, gold, and periwinkle crayons are highlighted.

[Chiming]

The crayon says, IN TRUTH, I WAS A LITTLE JEALOUS. BUT THEN MY BOX WAS GIVEN TO A LITTLE GIRL NAMED JANE, AND GUESS WHAT HER FAVOURITE COLOUR WAS?

Someone gives a girl with curly red hair the box of crayons.

[Thumping]

The garbologist asks, CERULEAN?

The crayon says, IT WAS GREEN!

The crayon hops from the garbologist’s hand and unrolls paper on the street.

[Birds chirping, paper rustling]

The crayon says, JANE AND I HAD A MARVELOUS TIME DRAWING FORESTS, FROGS, GATORS, CLOVERS, CACTI, VEGETABLES, EMERALDS, MARTIANS.

The crayon draws trees and then draws items as they list them.

[Whooshing, scratching]

The crayon says, OF COURSE, THERE WERE SOME CHALLENGES. HER LITTLE BROTHER HENRY LIKED TO USE ME TO DRAW SWAMP MONSTERS, NUCLEAR WASTE, AND BOOGERS, BUT I DIDN'T REALLY MIND.

The garbologist asks, NOW WHAT?

The crayon says, WELL, SINCE JANE NO LONGER PLAYS WITH CRAYONS, SHE CAN FIND ANOTHER USE FOR ME. SHE CAN USE ME TO WAX THE TRUCKS ON HER SKATEBOARD OR TURN ME INTO LIP GLOSS OR A CANDLE.

A mechanical arm waxes the skateboard trucks with the crayon, turns the crayon into a jar of green lip balm, and then into a green candle.

The garbologist says, TALK ABOUT A GREEN LIGHT. I GUESS THAT MEANS IT'S TIME TO GO.

The garbologist drops the paper into the paper recycling bin while the green candle watches from the top of the electronics recycling bin.

[Thumping, birds chirping]

The garbologist asks, ANY OTHER ADVICE?

The crayon says, BE PROUD OF YOURSELF, KIDS, NO MATTER WHAT COLOUR YOU ARE.

The garbologist says, THAT'S RIGHT, AND REMEMBER: REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE.

[Upbeat music plays]

He jumps into his truck.

[Grunting]

The garbologist says, SMELL YOU LATER.

[Whirring]
