In an animation, Andy, a garbologist with brown hair and beard, drives a small truck through a garbage dump. The truck's roof has a propeller and a solar panel. A wide broom is on the truck's underside. On the side are a tool panel, a vacuum hose, a garbage bin, recycling bins for food and electronic waste, and a blue bin for paper, cans, and bottles.

[Upbeat music plays, tires screeching]

Andy says, YOU WANNA KNOW A SECRET? SOME OF THE BEST STORIES CAN BE FOUND IN YOUR STINKY, SLIMY, ROTTEN TRASH. DON'T BELIEVE ME? CHECK THIS OUT!

The truck takes off. Smiling garbage gathers.

Title: Garbology.

[Whirring, upbeat music continues]

In the dump, Andy lands on a trash pile.

Andy says, MY NEXT GUEST NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION. THEY'RE IN PLAYROOMS EVERYWHERE: THE BUILDING BLOCK.

A yellow building block with six raised circles on one side jumps on top of a box.

[Boinging]

The block says, YO.

Andy says, WOW, BRUNO, YOU LOOK TERRIBLE. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?

The block, Bruno, says, IT'S A LONG STORY.

An equation shows a barrel of oil plus a fire plus yellow pigment. Bruno appears.

[Popping, flames whooshing, banging]

Bruno says, I STARTED OUT AS OIL, THEN THEY FIRED ME UP AND ADDED MY BEAUTIFUL COLOUR, STUFFED ME IN A BOX WITH HUNDREDS OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

Building blocks fall into a box with a picture of a castle on the front.

[Rustling, clattering]

Bruno says, THAT'S WHEN I BECAME A PART OF SOMETHING: A CREW, A SET, A FAMILY.

Andy asks, BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?

Bruno says, I'M GETTING THERE! MY PEOPLE BUILT US UP, YOU KNOW? A CASTLE, A BARBERSHOP, AN ICE CREAM PARLOUR, THEN EVERYTHING FELL APART.

The castle, the barbershop, and the ice cream parlour appear. A child puts Bruno on top of the castle and it falls apart.

[Whooshing, grunting, clattering]

Andy says, WHAT HAPPENED?

Bruno says, THE DOG ATE ME AND THEN POOPED ME OUT!

Andy says, EW!

Bruno says, YOU'RE TELLING ME. IT WAS LIGHTS OUT FOR A BIT. THAT FRENCH BULLDOG REALLY CHEWED ME UP GOOD. NEXT THING I KNOW, I'M LYING IN THE BACKYARD. A SQUIRREL TAKES ME INTO A TREE, THEN A BIRD TAKES ME AND DROPS ME IN THE SEA.

The squirrel puts Bruno in a nest, where a gull picks him up. The gull drops Bruno into the sea, and he sinks. He washes up on a beach.

[Squirrel squeaking, gull calling, splashing]

Bruno says, THEN I GOT CAUGHT IN A FISHING NET AND THEN TOSSED BACK ON LAND, AND BADDA-BING, HERE I STAND.

Andy says, WELL, AT LEAST YOU CAN GO BACK TO BEING A BUILDING BLOCK.

Bruno says, THAT'S THE POINT, ANDY. ONCE YOU'RE OUT, YOU'RE OUT. NOBODY WANTS US OLD BRICKS.

Other dented and scuffed building blocks walk to Andy, Andy.

[Grumbling]

Bruno says, WE LOST OUR SETS, WE LOST OUR FAMILIES. MILLIONS OF US ARE MADE EVERY DAY, AND BILLIONS OF US EVERY YEAR. I'M NOTHING.

Andy says, THAT'S A TON OF LOST BUILDING BLOCKS.

Bruno says, YEAH IF PEOPLE WOULD ONLY REUSE US MORE OFTEN, THERE'D BE LESS OF US.

Andy says, EXACTLY.

A mechanical arm on Andy’s truck uses the building blocks to build a building, a flower pot, and keychains.

[Truck whirring]

Andy says, THEY SHOULD BUILD NEW TOYS OR OTHER THINGS, LIKE MAILBOXES OR PLANT HOLDERS OR KEYCHAINS.

Bruno says, YEAH, THAT'S THE TICKET. GIVE ME A NEW IDENTITY, A FRESH START.

Andy says, THAT'S WHAT REUSING AND RECYCLING IS ALL ABOUT. SO REMEMBER, KIDS: REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE.

[Upbeat music plays]

He jumps into his truck.

[Grunting]

Andy says, SMELL YOU LATER.

[Whirring]
