[Upbeat music plays]

The tall iron gates in front of the Shelter are open. Tommy rides his red bicycle down the path and drops it in front of the greenhouse. He takes off his red helmet and drops it on the ground.

Audrey shouts, TOMMY!

Tommy says, HMM?

[Bicycle rattling]

Audrey shouts, TOMMY! HURRY UP!

Tommy says, WHOA...!

[Audrey laughing]

Tommy says, HELLO, AUDREY!

Audrey grabs Tommy’s hand and pulls him into the greenhouse. His bicycle and helmet fall to the ground.

[Bicycle crashing, whooshing, birds chirping, flapping]

Tommy says, WHOA!

Tommy says, SO? WHO'S THIS NEW RESIDENT? IS IT A NEW FRIEND FOR JILOU?

Audrey says, MM-HMM.

Tommy says, A LITTLE BROTHER FOR STICKY?

Audrey says, MM-HMM!

Tommy says, OH! A BRAND NEW BUDDY FOR MILO? WOOHOO!

Audrey says, NOPE!

Audrey pushes aside leaves on a bush.

[Leaves rustling]

Audrey says, IT'S A BABY ELEPHANT!

Tommy says, WOW!

Hector says, TOMMY... THIS IS EESHA!

[Tommy giggling, Eesha quietly trumpeting]

Hector says, SHE'LL BE STAYING WITH US UNTIL SHE'S OLD ENOUGH TO JOIN A SANCTUARY IN INDIA.

Tommy says, OH WOW, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! AN ACTUAL ASIAN ELEPHANT IN REAL LIFE! IN FRONT OF MY EYES!

[Loud trumpeting]

Tommy says, AAAH!

Tommy runs away, runs into Jack’s back, and falls.

[Smacking]

Jack carries Tommy back to Hector, Audrey, and Eesha.

Tommy says, SO, WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

Audrey says, CALM DOWN... EVERYTHING'S OKAY, EESHA... EVERYTHING'S...

Eesha cowers away from Audrey.

[Trumpeting, soft music plays]

Audrey says, OH!

Tommy says, THAT'S WEIRD... ANIMALS AREN'T USUALLY AFRAID OF AUDREY.

Hector says, EESHA COMES FROM A CIRCUS THAT WAS SHUT DOWN BECAUSE THEY WERE MISTREATING THE ANIMALS. SHE'S NEVER MET A HUMAN SHE FEELS IS TRUSTWORTHY...

Tommy says, BUT... THAT'S HORRIBLE! POOR EESHA...

[Jack grunting, Eesha trumpets softly, gentle music plays]

Audrey says, DOES IT MAKE YOU SAD TO SEE HER LIKE THIS, JACK? DON'T WORRY, WE'RE GOING TO SHOW HER THAT LIFE AT THIS REFUGE WILL BE VERY DIFFERENT. BECAUSE WE'RE DIFFERENT AS WELL!

Audrey hugs Jack and Tommy.

Hector says, THANKS, SWEETIE, I KNEW I COULD COUNT ON YOU! I NEED TO EXAMINE EESHA, BUT IN ORDER TO DO THAT, SHE NEEDS TO CALM DOWN
A LITTLE BIT.

[Birds chirping, Tommy grunting]

Audrey says, WE'LL DO WHATEVER WE CAN! BUT WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP HER?

Eesha rubs against a tree.

[Scratching, soft trumpeting]

Hector says, WELL, ELEPHANTS REALLY LIKE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR SKIN. SO MAYBE YOU TWO CAN PAMPER HER A BIT. YOU'LL HAVE TO INSPECT HER FROM HEAD TO TOE TO REMOVE ALL THAT DIRT AND GRIME ENCRUSTED ON HER BODY AND GIVE HER A BATH! EESHA WILL LOVE THAT!

Audrey and Tommy say, MESSAGE RECEIVED!

[Jack ooking]

Hector says, THANKS A LOT KIDS, GOOD LUCK!

Audrey says, LET'S DO IT, TOMMY! EESHA 'S WAITING FOR US!

[Tommy giggling, agreeing]

Audrey says, COME, EESHA! WE'RE GONNA BRING YOU TO THE WATERFALL AND GET YOU CLEANED UP! COME HERE!

Eesha backs away from the children. They look at each other and raise their eyebrows.

[Soft trumpeting, gentle music plays, both vocalizing]

Audrey says, HUH? DON'T YOU WORRY, EESHA. I'M YOUR FRI...

Eesha runs away from Audrey.

[Trumpeting, leaves rustling, stomping]

Tommy says, I DON'T THINK SHE WANT TO GO ANYWHERE WITH US.

Eesha’s trunk pokes out of a bush.

[Rustling, Eesha grunting, gentle music plays]

Audrey says, IF ONLY THERE WAS SOMETHING WE COULD DO TO CONVINCE HER SHE CAN TRUST US.

Tommy says, WELL... ELEPHANTS HAVE A VERY DEVELOPED SENSE OF SMELL. SO IT'S POSSIBLE SHE DOESN'T LIKE SOMETHING ABOUT OUR ODOR...

Audrey says, MAYBE IF WE JUST SMELLED MORE LIKE ELEPHANTS, SHE'D SEE SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE AFRAID OF US. OH! MY MOM HAS A COLLECTION OF ANIMAL ODORS IN HER LAB! MAYBE SHE'S GOT ONE FOR ELEPHANTS! JACK! YOU STAY WITH HER, OKAY?

Jack makes an okay sign with his thumb and forefinger.

[Grunting]

Audrey says, THANK YOU, JACK!

Jack approaches Eesha. Eesha panics and flees.

[Soft trumpeting, loud trumpeting, Jack hooting]

In the laboratory, Audrey says, HERE THEY ARE! THESE ARE CALLED PHEROMONES. LET'S SEE!

Audrey puts a bin on the floor and takes off the lid. She and Tommy sort through the bottles.

Audrey says, THE SUGAR GLIDER, THAT'S THE PROBOSCIS...

Tommy says, THE KAKAPO, THE CLOUDED LEOPARD...

Audrey says, THAT'S THE GOLDEN TAMARIN... THE KINKAJOU...

Tommy says, OH! THIS BOTTLE'S GOT NOTHING ON THE LABEL!

Audrey says, OH WELL... IT'S GOTTA BE THAT ONE THEN!

Tommy says, UH... WELL, JUST TO BE SAFE, I'M GONNA KEEP LOOKING! THE MOUNTAIN GORILLA... THE GIANT BAT...

Audrey opens the bottle and shakes pheromones all over her arms.

[Shaking]

Tommy says, HEH! THE KANGAROO...

[Sniffing]

Audrey says, THAT'S WEIRD... IT DOESN'T SMELL LIKE ANYTHING.

Tommy says, OH?! WELL, THAT'S NORMAL! US HUMANS CAN'T SMELL ANIMAL PHEROMONES.

Audrey says, AH, I DIDN'T KNOW THAT...

Audrey gives Tommy the bottle. He shakes it.

Tommy says, WHAT?! DID YOU USE THE WHOLE THING?

Audrey says, UH... WELL, YEAH. NOW, EESHA WILL DEFINITELY RECOGNIZE A FAMILIAR SMELL!

Tommy says, OH...

Tommy and Audrey leave the laboratory. Nearby birds take off as the children approach.

[Birds chattering, flapping]

Tommy and Audrey say, MM?

Audrey says, OH, HEY THERE, STICKY!

Sticky, a sugar glider glides towards Audrey, then drops to the ground and runs away.

[Gentle music plays, Sticky squeaks, birds chirping]

Audrey says, OH! UH... OKAY... SEE YOU LATER, STICKY...

Tommy puts his hand on his chin and looks at Audrey. Tal the tortoise approaches Audrey, then stops and sniffs. Tal winces and flees.

[Tal sniffing, grunting]

Audrey says, TAL! WHAT? ARE YOU RUNNING AWAY TOO?!

Tal hides in his shell.

[Whimpering, popping]

Tommy says, HUH?

Audrey says, OH... HUH? HELLO, JUNIPER!

Juniper, a grey Darwin fox, awakens and sniffs Audrey’s hand. Juniper’s eyes widen, and she runs away from Audrey.

[Squeaking, footsteps running, birds chirping]

Audrey says, HEY! WAIT! OKAY, WHAT'S GOING ON? WHY ARE ALL THE ANIMALS RUNNING AWAY?

[Upbeat music plays]

Tommy says, IT'S YOUR ODOR! I THINK THEY PROBABLY JUST DON'T RECOGNIZE YOU WITH THE ELEPHANT PHEROMONES!

Audrey says, WHAT? BUT THAT'S TERRIBLE...

Tommy says, NOT TO WORRY! WE'LL USE THIS TIME TO GET EESHA TO START TO TRUST US! OKAY?

Audrey says, YOU'RE RIGHT... THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO GET EESHA FEELING COMFORTABLE HERE!

Audrey points up, and a lizard falls out of a tree. The lizard skitters away.

[Slide whistle, thumping, lizard squeaking]

Audrey says, IT'LL ALL BE FINE...PATIENCE, AUDREY... THERE SHE IS!

Eesha eats leaves from a bush. Jack hides behind a tree and watches her.

[Leaves rustling]

Audrey says, HELLO, JACK! ALL GOOD?

Jack sniffs, covers his nose, and runs away.

[Jack sniffing, grunting]

Audrey frowns.

Audrey says, HMM?

Audrey and Tommy say, OH!

Eesha runs away from Audrey and Tommy.

[Trumpeting]

Audrey says, EESHA?! WAIT!

Tommy asks, DO YOU THINK IT'S POSSIBLE THAT WE MIXED UP THE PHEROMONES?

A babirusa wags his tail. Audrey pets him.

[Snorting]

Audrey says, AH! JOYO! AT LEAST YOU LOVE ME NO MATTER WHAT!

Tommy says, OH... GUESS, WE WERE WRONG...

Audrey says, HM? AH?! AAAH!

Audrey runs into a pond.

[Water splashing]

Audrey says, I HAVE TO GET RID OF THESE DARNED BABIRUSA PHEROMONES!

Audrey takes a shower.

[Water splashing, upbeat music plays]

Audrey says, OH?

Jack covers his nose and runs away.

[Jack grunting, Audrey growling]

Audrey and Joyo roll on the ground. Audrey rubs mud on her face and into her hair. A small grey animal hops into a hole.

[Snorting, rustling, Audrey giggling, frightened squeaking, whooshing]

At the laboratory, Tommy runs outside with a perfume bottle and sprays Audrey.

[Spraying]

Audrey says, AAH!

Audrey walks behind some bushes. Animals stampede away from her. Joyo runs behind them.

[Thumping, squeaking, screeching]

Audrey lies facedown on a log.

[Sad music plays]

Audrey says, THIS IS A DISASTER, TOMMY... NO MATTER WHAT I DO, IT SCARES THE ANIMALS AWAY... AND NOW EVEN JOYO'S ABANDONED ME.

Tommy sits on the edge of the other side of the log, holding his nose.

[Tommy grunting, rustling]

Tommy says, AH... THERE HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF SOLUTION. WHAT IF WE TRIED TO MASK YOUR SMELL WITH A BIG SKUNK FART?

Audrey says, NO...I EVEN SCARE THE SKUNKS AWAY. I THINK YOU'RE JUST GONNA HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF EESHA ON YOUR OWN...

Tommy falls off the log.

[Thumping]

Tommy says, UH! WHAT?! ALONE? BUT YOU SURE? WHAT IF I MESS IT ALL UP!

Audrey takes a pair of walkie-talkies out of her pocket.

Audrey says, I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DO THIS, TOMMY! I BROUGHT THIS SO I CAN HELP YOU OUT! THIS WAY, WE CAN DO IT TOGETHER EVEN IF WE AREN'T ACTUALLY TOGETHER!

[Birds singing]

Tommy says, WELL, OKAY... IF THAT'S THE ONLY WAY, IT'S WORTH A SHOT...

Eesha stands alone in a clearing. Tommy watches her from behind a bush.

[Trumpeting softly]

Tommy whispers into his walkie-talkie, TOMMY TO AUDREY, I CAN SEE HER! WHAT DO I DO?

[Static flickering]

In on a nearby tree branch, Audrey puts down her binoculars.

[Birds chirping, tense music plays]

Audrey says, into her walkie-talkie, GOOD... LET'S START YOU OFF WITH SOMETHING EASY. YOU JUST HAVE TO INSPECT HER SKIN. LIKE MY DAD MENTIONED BEFORE! YOU CAN DO THIS! IF SHE SENSES THAT YOU'RE NERVOUS, THEN SHE WILL BE TOO.

A parrot flies towards Audrey’s branch, then quickly changes direction.

[Flapping, parrot squawking]

Tommy says, OH!

[Tommy whimpering]

Tommy says, OOH... UH-HUH.

Audrey, via walkie-talkie, says, STAND UP STRAIGHT. HEAD UP HIGH. CHIN FORWARD. SHOULDERS BACK.

[Tommy grunting]

Tommy stands with his hand on his hip, his back arched, and his feet pointing at each other.

Tommy whispers into his walkie-talkie, UH... LIKE THIS?

Audrey whispers into her walkie-talkie, UH, YEAH... NOW SLOWLY APPROACH EESHA, BE GENTLE BUT ALSO BE FIRM. GO ON!

Audrey, via walkie-talkie, says, ARE YOU READY?

Tommy whispers into his walkie-talkie, YEAH... READY... OH, WHOA!

Eesha approaches Tommy. He loses his balance and falls flat on his face. Eesha rears up and then runs away from him.

[Thumping, Eesha trumpeting]

Audrey, via walkie-talkie, says, OKAY... THAT WAS JUST YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT! WE'LL GET THERE! GO ON, LET'S TRY AGAIN!

[Birds chirping]

Tommy says, OH...

Tommy shouting, EESHA!

[Leaves rustling, static flickering]

Tommy, via walkie-talkie, says, AUDREY! COME IN, AUDREY!

Audrey drops onto her branch.

Audrey says, OH?

Tommy, via walkie-talkie, I FOUND HER.

[Beeping]

Audrey says into her walkie-talkie, WELL DONE! ALRIGHT, TRY AGAIN! AND DON'T FORGET, SHOW CONFIDENCE! IF YOU DOUBT YOURSELF, EESHA WILL DOUBT YOU TOO.

[Tommy whimpering, leaves rustling]

Tommy carries a long brush and a bucket close to Eesha and puts them on the ground.

[Clanking]

Tommy says, HELLO, EESHA... UH... IT'S TIME FOR BRUSHING... IS IT OKAY IF I COME CLOSER TO YOU?

Eesha takes a step backwards.

[Grunting]

Tommy says, UH... A LITTLE SLOWER? UH, NO, HOLD ON. DON'T RUN AWAY... PRETTY PLEASE.

Tommy picks up the brush.

[Birds chirping, creaking]

Tommy says, MAYBE IT'LL BE EASIER WITH THIS!

Eesha’s eyes widen and she rears up on her back legs. Tommy dives away.

[Panicked trumpeting, thumping]

Tommy says, AH! I GUESS NOT!

Eesha lands on Tommy’s walkie-talkie.

[Crunching]

Tommy says, AH!

Audrey says into her walkie-talkie, TOMMY? TOMMY? IS EVERYTHING OKAY?

Eesha flees through the jungle, knocking down tree branches.

[Tense music plays, leaves rustling, trumpeting, crashing]

Audrey says into her walkie-talkie, TOMMY!

Audrey swings on vines and lands in the clearing. Tommy sits on a rock, with his shoulders slumping.

[Vines creaking, birds chirping]

Audrey says, OH! YOU'RE OKAY! I WAS WORRIED YOU MIGHT'VE BEEN TRAMPLED.

Tommy says, OH... NO... I'M JUST FINE... BUT I THINK I REALLY MESSED THINGS UP FOR GOOD WITH EESHA. I GIVE UP...

Audrey sits beside Tommy on the rock and he jumps to his feet. Tommy covers his nose and sits back down on the edge of the rock.

[Whooshing]

Tommy says, WHOA! I'M SORRY! YOU JUST STILL SMELL REALLY, REALLY AWFUL... ANYWAY, I DON'T SMELL, AND, EESHA STILL LIKES ME EVEN LESS THAN YOU...

Audrey says, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, TOMMY. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. IT'S NORMAL, IT'LL BE HARD TO GET CLOSE TO HER.

Tommy says, BUT WHY THOUGH? I JUST WANT TO HELP HER.

[Sad music plays, birds chirping]

Audrey says, MY DAD TOLD ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EESHA'S LIFE AT THE CIRCUS. THEY DIDN'T FEED HER AND WOULD HIT HER WITH A STICK TO TEACH HER THE TRICKS THEY WANTED HER TO DO.

In a flashback, Eesha cowers in a small cage. A person’s shadow falls over her.

[Footsteps tapping, animal wailing]

The flashback ends.

Tommy says, SO THAT'S WHY SHE'S SO SCARED OF THE BRUSH!

Audrey says, YEAH! AND IF WE CAN'T FIND A WAY TO GET THROUGH TO HER, SHE MAY NEVER BE ABLE TO TRUST HUMANS AGAIN.

Tommy says, YOU'RE RIGHT! WE CAN'T GIVE UP ON HER NOW! WE'LL FIND A WAY TO DO IT! FOR EESHA!

Audrey and Tommy shout, EESHA!

[Trumpeting]

Audrey and Tommy say, AH!

Eesha stands tangled in vines. Audrey runs to her.

[Trumpeting, vines creaking]

Audrey says, AH! EESHA!

Tommy says, BACK UP, AUDREY... THE SMELL IS REALLY STRESSING HER OUT. LET ME TRY AND HELP HER!

Tommy slowly approaches Eesha as she trembles.

[Trumpeting]

Tommy says, DON'T BE SCARED, EESHA!

[Trumpeting]

Tommy calmly says, CALM DOWN, EESHA... I'M JUST HERE TO HELP YOU! IF I PULL RIGHT HERE, THAT SHOULD FREE YOUR LEFT FOOT!

The vine falls off her left foot. Eesha shakes her free foot.

[Vines rustling, birds chirping]

Tommy says, YOU SEE? YOU CAN TRUST ME! RIGHT THERE... AND THERE...

Tommy frees Eesha.

[Vines rustling, happy trumpeting, Tommy chuckling]

Tommy says, JUST A BIT... WHOA! OOH!

Eesha lifts Tommy onto her back.

[Vines creaking, trumpeting]

Tommy says, OH, THANKS A LOT FOR TRUSTING ME, EESHA!

Tommy untangles the rest of the vines.

[Vines rustling, Eesha trumpeting, Tommy giggling]

Audrey says, YAHOO!

[Giggling]

Tommy says, HUH?

Audrey says, WELL DONE, TOMMY! UH... CAN I COME CLOSER TO YOU GUYS NOW?

Tommy says, YES! BUT ON ONE CONDITION!

In the jungle, Hector carries his medical kit.

[Hector humming, Eesha trumpeting, children laughing in the distance, splashing]

Eesha sprays Audrey with water.

Hector says, OH? WELL, I SEE YOU KIDS GOT HER TO TAKE HER BATH... AH... AH... TCHOO!

Tommy says, UH...

Eesha sprays water on Hector.

[Water splashing, children laughing]

Audrey says, HER NAME'S EESHA, DAD! I DON'T KNOW AN ATCHOO!

Hector shakes water off his beard and recoils from Audrey.

[Hector grunting, splashing, upbeat music plays]

Hector says, OH! YUCK! WHAT IS THAT SMELL?

Audrey says, SORRY, DAD! THAT'S ME... I CAN'T SEEM TO GET RID OF IT.

Tommy explains, MORE SPECIFICALLY, IT'S A BUNCH OF PHEROMONES MIXED WITH MY GRANDMOTHER'S PERFUME.

Hector says, OH... I SEE! DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT, SWEETIE, TO GET RID OF THAT SMELL, YOU JUST NEED TO TAKE A GOOD BATH AND IT'LL BE GONE TOMORROW!

[Slide whistle]

Audrey says, OH! THANKS, DAD!

Audrey jumps up and hugs Hector.

[Splashing]

Hector whimpers, OH...

Audrey says, I WAS SCARED THAT I'D SMELL LIKE THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE AND NO ONE WOULD EVER WANNA COME NEAR ME!

Hector says, UH...

[Tommy chuckling]

Tommy says, I GUESS EESHA ISN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO'S GONNA TAKE A BATH TODAY!

[Audrey and Tommy laughing]

[Upbeat music plays]
