The tall iron gates in front of the Shelter are open. Tommy rides his red bicycle down the path, drops it in front of the greenhouse, and runs inside.

[Bicycle rattling, birds chirping]

A flock of birds takes off as Tommy enters the greenhouse jungle. He eats seeds from a bag.

[Birds twittering, Tommy munching, crunching]

Tommy says, MM. HELLO, AUDREY. HELLO, PACO.

Audrey crouches in front of Paco, a green Kakapo, holding her closed fists out.

Audrey says, HELLO, TOMMY. ALRIGHT, PACO, WHICH HAND IS THE TREAT IN?

Paco taps Audrey’s left fist.

[Paco cooing]

Audrey says, YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT! GOOD JOB!

Audrey opens the fist and gives Paco a treat. He taps her right fist, and she opens it.

[Tommy laughing, Paco cooing]

Audrey says, OH, NOTHING THERE.

Tommy says, HERE, THIS IS FOR YOU, PACO. I BROUGHT YOU A PACKET OF SEEDS.

Audrey says, HUH? CAREFUL, TOMMY. IF YOU START BRINGING HIM FOOD, PACO WON'T LEAVE YOU ALONE FOR A SECOND.

Tommy says, AH. OKAY.

Tommy puts the seeds in his pocket, and some fall to the ground.

[Rustling]

A voice says, HELLO...!

The children say, HMM?

Audrey and Tommy run to a window and peek outside.

[Whooshing, birds chirping]

The voice asks, IS ANYONE THERE?

Audrey says, MRS. DA COSTA?!

Mrs. Da Costa walks by the Veterinary clinic. She wears a red dress with pale orange trim, a pale orange headband, and eyeglasses. The headband styles her curly brown hair away from her face.

Mrs. Da Costa says, HELLO! IT'S AUDREY'S TEACHER!

Audrey says, WHAT IS SHE DOING AT THE REFUGE? HIDE!

[Gentle music notes play]

Audrey ducks down beneath the window and sits on the ground.

Tommy says, SHE'S OUR TEACHER. WHY ARE WE HIDING?

Audrey whispers, SHHH! SHE MUST BE HERE BECAUSE OF MY PRESENTATION THIS MORNING ON GORILLAS!

Tommy says, MM-HMM...

In a flashback, Audrey stands in front of a class and gives a presentation. Behind her, a large drawing of a gorilla is on a whiteboard.

Audrey says, GORILLAS ARE INCREDIBLE ANIMALS! USING GESTURES AND CRIES. AND THEY MARK THEIR TERRITORY TO SHOW ANYONE WHO CROSSES THEIR PATH WHO'S THE BOSS! LIKE THIS!

Audrey drops down on all fours. She climbs up onto Mrs. Da Costa’s desk and beats her chest. Mrs. Da Costa startles away from her.

[Audrey grunting, Mrs. Da Costa shrieking, lively music plays]

Audrey falls off the desk. She stands, wearing a trashcan on her head.

[Crashing, clattering]

Audrey says, AH!

The flashback ends.

In the greenhouse, Audrey and Tommy sit on the ground.

[Tommy laughing, birds chirping]

Tommy says, NO, NO. I'M SURE THAT ISN'T IT. YOUR PRESENTATION WAS AWESOME. IT MIGHT'VE BEEN THE BEST!

Audrey says, THEN WHY HAS SHE COME TO THE REFUGE? SHE MUST'VE BEEN ANGRIER THAN I THOUGHT!

Mrs. Da Costa says, HELLO?

Hector looks out the window of the Veterinary clinic, holding a monkey.

[Monkey screeching, upbeat music plays]

Hector says, MRS. DA COSTA, WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU? I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF CARING FOR A PATIENT. BUT I'LL BE WITH YOU IN A MINUTE. HMM?

The monkey leaps out of Hector’s arms and back into the examination room.

[Monkey screeching, clattering]

Hector says, AT LEAST I HOPE.

[Chuckling]

Mrs. Da Costa says, DON'T RUSH ON MY ACCOUNT. TAKE YOUR TIME. I CAME HERE TO HAVE A LITTLE TALK WITH AUDREY.

Hector says, SHE'S, UH... UH, I THINK SHE'S IN THE GREENHOUSE. GO AND SEE HER IF YOU LIKE. I'LL JOIN YOU ONCE I'M FINISHED.

Hector ducks and a baby bottle flies over his head. The monkey leaps around the room behind him.

[Clattering, whooshing, Hector exclaiming, smashing, grumbling, playful music plays]

Hector walks away from the window.

Hector says, STOP YOUR MONKEY BUSINESS!

Mrs. Da Costa says, THIS VISIT PROMISES TO BE FASCINATING!

Mrs. Da Costa looks at the greenhouse and dances excitedly.

[Tapping]

Mrs. Da Costa says, I'M SO GLAD I CAME!

Hector appears at the window.

Hector says, UH...

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH. I'M DELIGHTED TO BE ABLE TO EXPLORE YOUR REFUGE.

Hector gives two thumbs-up.

[Clattering, Hector laughing nervously]

Mrs. Da Costa says, MM-HMM.

Mrs. Da Costa adjusts her eyeglasses and walks to the greenhouse.

[Clicking, monkey hooting, footsteps rustling]

At the window, Audrey says, WE'VE GOT TO HIDE! HURRY!

Audrey grabs Tommy’s arm and yanks him away from the window. They run past Paco. More seeds fall out of Tommy’s pocket. Paco follows the trail on the ground, eating seeds.

[Tommy exclaiming, panting, Audrey exclaiming, seeds crunching, Paco cooing]

Mrs. Da Costa enters the jungle.

Mrs. Da Costa says, AUDREY? WHERE ARE YOU? HELLO?

Paco walks away from the entrance.

[Paco grunting, birds singing, upbeat musical notes play]

Mrs. Da Costa says, HUH? HMM. HMM.

Mrs. Da Costa follows Paco.

Audrey and Tommy run in the jungle. They slide to a stop and look behind them.

[Panting, frog croaking, birds singing, leaves rustling, exclamations, skidding]

Audrey says, WHEW! THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE.

Tommy asks, WHAT ARE YOU SCARED OF? YOU MIGHT BE WORRIED ABOUT NOTHING. YOU COULD JUST ASK HER WHY SHE CAME HERE. MM!

Tommy takes the seeds out of his pocket. Water flows over a small waterfall into a stream behind Audrey.

[Munching, water flowing, birds chirping]

Audrey says, THERE'S NO WAY! SHE MIGHT BE HERE TO KICK ME OUT OF CLASS!

[Tommy gulping, upbeat musical notes play]

Tommy says, HUH? YOU THINK SHE'S THAT MAD?

Audrey says, I DON'T KNOW, BUT JUST IN CASE, WE'D BETTER HIDE UNTIL SHE DECIDES TO LEAVE!

[Paco grunting, water gushing]

Tommy says, HEY, PACO. WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?

Audrey says, HE WANTS YOU TO GIVE HIM MORE SEEDS. HE'S NOT A KAKAPO, HE'S A REAL GLUTTON.

Tommy says, SORRY, PACO, BUT I JUST FINISHED THE LAST ONE. LOOK.

Paco narrows his eyes and flaps his wings.

[Paco grumbling, squeaking, flapping]

Audrey says, SHHH! PACO! STOP IT! YOU'RE GONNA GIVE US AWAY!

Mrs. Da Costa says, AUDREY? AUDREY?!

Audrey says, WE'VE GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE! COME ON, LET'S GO!

Audrey pulls Tommy’s arm, and they run.

Tommy says, AH!

Paco follows Audrey and Tommy.

[Paco grumbling, exclamations, panting, exciting music plays]

The children stop running and hide behind a wide tree.

Audrey says, WHEW.

Paco arrives and the children run away from him.

[Paco grumbling, exclamations, screaming]

Audrey and Tommy hide beneath an overturned red wheelbarrow.

[Banging, Paco grumbling]

The children say, HMM.

Paco appears beneath the wheelbarrow. Audrey and Tommy stand and run away. They climb a rocky outcropping and hide behind a rock.

[Screaming, exclamations, panting, exciting music plays]

Audrey says, HMM?

[Birds chittering, both children sighing]

Audrey and Tommy say, MM.

Paco appears behind them and flaps his wings. Audrey and Tommy run away from Paco. Just after the children run across the path, Mrs. Da Costa walks on it and watches Paco run across it.

[Grunting, flapping, exclamations, panting, exciting music continues]

Mrs. Da Costa turns and follows Paco.

Mrs. Da Costa says, MM.

Tommy and Audrey arrive at the stream. Tommy carefully crosses on mossy rocks in the water. Audrey joyfully swings over his head on a vine. He runs across the last few rocks.

[Tommy grumbling, grunting, rustling]

Audrey shouting, YEE-HA!

Audrey and Tommy look over the top of a mossy log.

[Whooshing, birds chirping]

Audrey says, THERE'S NO WAY PACO WOULD FOLLOW US ALL THE WAY IN HERE.

Tommy says, YOU ALREADY LOST YOUR BET. THERE HE IS. WOW. DO THEY NORMALLY SWIM THAT WELL?

Paco swims across the stream.

[Water splashing, Audrey groaning]

Audrey says, DO SOMETHING, TOMMY!

Tommy runs to the edge of the stream. Paco arrives and walks onto the shore.

[Footsteps rustling, water splashing, suspenseful music plays]

Tommy whispers, GO AWAY, PACO! GO ON! GO! AH!

Paco shakes off the water.

[Flapping, Tommy exclaiming]

On the other side of the stream, Mrs. Da Costa says, OH, HELLO, TOMMY!

Tommy says, HMM? HEY. HI THERE, MRS. DA COSTA.

[Laughing nervously]

Mrs. Da Costa says, WHAT LUCK RUNNING INTO YOU. THIS ANIMAL REFUGE IS A VERITABLE LABYRINTH!

Mrs. Da Costa jumps on the rocks and crosses the stream.

[Whooshing, water splashing, rustling, upbeat music plays]

Tommy says, UH... UH, YES, WHAT A COINCIDENCE. ACTUALLY, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF... PLAYING A GAME OF HIDE-AND-SEEK WITH AUDREY... AND WITH JACK, TOO!

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH, WELL, THAT'S PERFECT. COULD YOU BRING ME TO THEM, PLEASE?

Tommy says, UH... EH, UH...

Audrey hides behind a rock.

[Audrey whimpering]

Tommy glances at Audrey and she shakes her head.

Audrey says, AH-AH.

Tommy says, OF COURSE. THEY'RE RIGHT THIS WAY.

[Laughing nervously, birds chirping]

Mrs. Da Costa says, MM?

Tommy leads Mrs. Da Costa away from Audrey. Paco follows them.

[Mrs. Da Costa chuckling, Paco squawking, music stops]

Audrey leans over the top of the log.

[Sighing]

Tommy and Mrs. Da Costa walk past Sophie, the sloth hanging from a tree branch.

[Footsteps rustling, upbeat music plays quietly]

Tommy says, UH, AUDREY AND JACK ARE REALLY, REALLY GOOD AT HIDE-AND-SEEK. IT'S VERY POSSIBLE WE MIGHT NOT EVEN FIND THEM.

A monkey jumps onto a tree trunk and slides down.

[Monkey hooting, rustling]

Mrs. Da Costa says, WOW! THIS REFUGE REALLY IS AN INCREDIBLE PLACE. IT'S A PLEASURE TO EXPLORE. HOW LUCKY IT MUST BE TO GROW UP SURROUNDED BY ANIMALS.

Tommy says, NOTHING BETTER.

Babou, the proboscis monkey, lounges on a tree branch, eating an apple. He stands and watches Tommy and Mrs. Da Costa walk beneath him. A bush shakes in front of them.

[Babou hooting, leaves rustling]

Tommy says, LOOK! THOSE LEAVES ARE MOVING! IT MIGHT BE JACK!

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH, REALLY. FINGERS CROSSED IT IS HIM! I'D LOVE TO MEET THE FAMOUS JACK FROM THE PRESENTATION. AUDREY SEEMS TO LOVE HIM TO PIECES!

Tommy says, UH... YEAH. I'LL MAKE SURE! DON'T MOVE A MUSCLE! HEH-HEH.

Tommy runs past the bush into a clearing.

[Tommy panting, birds chirping]

Tommy whispers, PSST. PSST. AUDREY?

Audrey and Jack stand up from behind a bush.

[Leaves rustling]

Audrey says, TOMMY!

[Tommy screaming]

Tommy says, HELLO, JACK.

[Jack grunting]

Audrey says, SO DID YOU DO IT? IS SHE LEAVING SOON?

Tommy says, UH, I DON'T THINK SO, NO. SHE SEEMS TO REALLY WANT TO TALK TO YOU.

Audrey says, WOW! THAT MUST MEAN SHE'S SUPER UPSET. I BETTER STAY HIDDEN. OKAY, JACK, YOU AND I HAVE TO GO AND HIDE!

[Jack grunting]

Jack runs behind a thin tree and covers his eyes. Tommy and Audrey stare at him.

Tommy says, HMM?

Audrey says, UH... YEAH, OKAY, THAT'S GOOD.

Tommy says, WHAT ABOUT ME? I DON'T KNOW HOW TO LIE. I CAN'T DISTRACT HER FOREVER.

Paco runs to Audrey and Tommy.

[Birds chirping, Paco grumbling, exclamations]

Tommy says, NO, SERIOUSLY? PACO FOUND US AGAIN?

Audrey climbs a tree.

[Grunting, squeaking]

Mrs. Da Costa says, TOMMY? AH, FINALLY. THERE YOU ARE. I KNEW THIS FUNNY BIRD WOULD LEAD ME TO YOU. DID YOU FIND AUDREY?

Tommy says, UH... THE PROBLEM IS, IT'S REALLY HARD. THE REFUGE IS VERY BIG.

Paco walks to the base of the tree. Above him, Audrey hangs upside down from a branch, sweating.

[Upbeat music plays, Paco grumbling, Audrey whimpering]

Mrs. Da Costa says, YOU'RE RIGHT! IF SHE SPENDS ALL HER FREE TIME HERE, AUDREY MUST FEEL LIKE OUR CLASSROOM IS REALLY SMALL.

Paco climbs the tree using his beak and feet.

[Paco grunting, tapping]

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH, LOOK AT THAT! A FUNNY WAY TO CLIMB!

Tommy says, HE'S A PRO. KAKAPOS ARE KNOWN TO BE EXCELLENT CLIMBERS!

[Paco grumbling, upbeat music plays]

Mrs. Da Costa says, LOOKS LIKE THAT BIRD'S GOING TO WIN YOUR GAME OF HIDE-AND-SEEK.

On the branch, Paco tugs on Audrey’s shirt.

[Mrs. Da Costa laughing, Audrey grunting]

Mrs. Da Costa says, YOU CAN GET DOWN, AUDREY! THE GAME IS OVER! WELL DONE. IT WASN'T EASY TO FIND YOU.

Audrey drops to the ground between Tommy and Mrs. Da Costa.

[Grunting, birds chirping, insects chittering, rustling]

Tommy says, UH, WOW! THAT WAS AN AWESOME HIDING PLACE, AUDREY. I WOULD'VE NEVER FOUND YOU WITHOUT PACO!

Audrey says, OH, YEAH. HELLO AGAIN, MRS. DA COSTA. WHAT BRINGS YOU TO THE REFUGE?

Mrs. Da Costa says, I CAME BECAUSE I WANTED TO TALK TO YOU. I THINK IT'S ABOUT TIME--

Audrey says, AWESOME IDEA! LET'S GO INTO THE HOUSE! THIS WAY!

Audrey grabs Mrs. Da Costa’s wrist and pulls her into a run.

[Slapping, screaming, upbeat musical notes play]

Tommy says, UH, YOUR HOUSE IS THE OTHER WAY. OH! I GET IT.

Audrey, Mrs. Da Costa, and Tommy stand by the cave entrance.

Mrs. Da Costa asks, ARE YOU SURE THIS IS THE RIGHT WAY, AUDREY?

Audrey says, IT'S A SHORTCUT. AFTER YOU.

Mrs. Da Costa enters the cave.

[Insects chittering]

Tommy says, HMM. HEY, AUDREY, WHAT'S THE PLAN EXACTLY?

Audrey says, IF I CAN SCARE MRS. DA COSTA AWAY FROM THE REFUGE BEFORE SHE TALKS TO ME, THEN MAYBE SHE'LL FORGET ABOUT KICKING ME OUTTA CLASS.

Audrey follows Mrs. Da Costa.

Tommy asks, WHY DO I GET THE FEELING THIS WON'T END WELL. AUDREY, WAIT FOR ME!

In the dark, Mrs. Da Costa says, AUDREY? AUDREY? AUDREY, ARE YOU THERE? OH!

Audrey stands with her flashlight pointed up at her face. Around her, bats hanging from the cave ceiling open their eyes.

[Squeaking]

Audrey says, HMM. LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO THE HOME OF THE... SCARY GIANT BAT! THEY'RE REALLY SCARY, HUH?

Tommy runs away.

[Tommy whimpering, whooshing, screaming]

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT. THESE BATS ARE TRULY WONDERFUL!

She claps her hands together.

[Clap]

Audrey turns her flashlight on and off.

[Clicking, dramatic music plays]

Audrey says, OH, NO! THE BATS HAVE WOKEN UP! THEY'RE ALL ATTACKING ME! RUN AWAY BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE, MRS. DA COSTA! HURRY!

Mrs. Da Costa says, OKAY, THAT'S ENOUGH, AUDREY. STOP THIS FOOLISHNESS, PLEASE.

Audrey says, HMM?

Mrs. Da Costa puts out her hand, and Audrey gives her the flashlight.

Mrs. Da Costa says, AUDREY, I'VE BEEN TRYING TO TALK TO YOU, BUT YOU REALLY HAVEN'T MADE IT EASY. YOU'VE LEFT ME NO CHOICE. I'LL TALK TO YOUR FATHER INSTEAD.

[Audrey gasping]

Audrey says, NO, DON'T! PLEASE! WAIT!

Tommy waits outside of the cave.

[Tommy panting, groaning]

Audrey says, NO! PLEASE DON'T GO! MRS. DA COSTA, I, UM--

Mrs. Da Costa says, AUDREY, IT'S TOO LATE. I NEEDED TO TALK TO YOU, BUT YOU'VE WASTED MY TIME.

Audrey says, I'M SO SORRY, MRS. DA COSTA. UH, MA'AM?

Babou drops down on a branch above Mrs. Da Costa.

[Babou grunting, whooshing]

Audrey says, WATCH YOUR GLASSES.

Mrs. Da Costa says, WHAT? ARE YOU STARTING AGAIN AFTER YOU JUST FINISHED APOLOGIZING?

Babou reaches down and steals Mrs. Da Costa’s eyeglasses off her face.

[Clicking]

Mrs. Da Costa says, HUH? OH, MY GLASSES! GIVE THEM BACK!

Babou puts on the eyeglasses and leaps away.

[Babou grunting]

Audrey runs to a vine and swings.

[Upbeat music plays, creaking]
Audrey shouts, YEE-HA!

On a branch, Audrey slides to a stop in front of Babou. He watches her move closer.

[Exclaiming, rustling]

Audrey says, HMM.

Tommy says, IT'S OKAY. UH, AUDREY'LL TAKE CARE OF IT.

Babou takes off the eyeglasses and throws them.

[Slide whistle]

Audrey says, AH!

The eyeglasses land in a bush.

[Rustling]

Mrs. Da Costa says, HUH?

Tommy says, BY, UH, THROWING THEM IN THE BRAMBLES.

Mrs. Da Costa puts her hands on her face.

[Slapping]

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH, NO, WHAT A DISASTER! WHAT'LL I DO WITHOUT MY GLASSES?

Audrey lands in front of Mrs. Da Costa and drops down on her knees.

[Vine creaking, rustling]

Audrey says, I'M REALLY, REALLY, REALLY SORRY, MRS. DA COSTA. IT WASN'T ON PURPOSE. I PROMISE YOU! PLEASE DON'T THROW ME OUT OF THE CLASS!

[Soothing music plays]

Audrey and Tommy plead, PRETTY PLEASE, MA'AM?

Mrs. Da Costa says, HUH? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? OH, DEAR, AUDREY. I'M VERY HAPPY TO HAVE YOU IN MY CLASS.

Audrey and Tommy says, HMM?

Audrey says, AH, REALLY?

Mrs. Da Costa says, YES, REALLY. YOU'RE A VERY CREATIVE, INTELLIGENT GIRL. AND I LOVE YOUR PRESENTATIONS. THEY'RE ALWAYS CAPTIVATING!

Audrey says, MY PRESENTATIONS? REALLY?

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH, YES, AUDREY, THEY ARE. AND NOW THAT I'VE HAD THE CHANCE TO EXPLORE THIS MARVELLOUS REFUGE, I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU'RE SO FULL OF ENERGY. YOU SIMPLY NEED TO LEARN HOW TO CHANNEL IT, AND THEN NOTHING CAN STOP YOU. BUT RIGHT NOW, I NEED YOUR HELP. I ABSOLUTELY MUST RETRIEVE MY GLASSES.

Tommy says, I THINK I HAVE AN IDEA!

[Upbeat music plays]

In the jumble, Jonas stands on a ladder and uses a reach extender to grab a branch. Tommy grabs it.

[Leaves rustling]

Tommy says, I NEED TO BORROW THIS FOR TWO SECONDS! THANKS, JONAS!

Later, Audrey hangs from a branch over the bramble bush. Using the reach extender, she reaches for her eyeglasses.

[Snapping]

Audrey says, THAT'S GOOD. I'M ALMOST THERE!

Audrey grabs the eyeglasses.

[Grunting, snapping, leaves rustling]

Audrey says, GOT 'EM! HERE ARE YOUR GLASSES, MRS. DA COSTA.

Mrs. Da Costa says, OH...

She puts on her eyeglasses.

[Clicking]

Mrs. Da Costa says, YES! I MUST SAY, IT'S MUCH BETTER LIKE THIS. WELL DONE. GOOD WORK, AUDREY.

Audrey jumps down to the ground.

[Grunting, rustling]

Hector locks the door of the Veterinary clinic. At the greenhouse entrance, he meets Audrey, Mrs. Da Costa, and Tommy.

[Grunting, clicking, footsteps rustling]

Hector says, AH, THERE YOU ARE. AUDREY, I HOPE YOU WERE A GOOD GIRL WITH MRS. DA COSTA.

[Birds chirping]

Mrs. Da Costa says, SHE WAS VERY WELL BEHAVED.

Audrey says, HMM?

[Upbeat music plays]

Mrs. Da Costa says, AUDREY TOOK ME TO SEE, UH, THE WILDEST PARTS OF THE REFUGE! ISN'T THAT RIGHT, AUDREY?

Audrey says, UH, YEAH, I SURE DID.

Mrs. Da Costa says, ANYWAY, THAT'S WHY I CAME HERE. TO ASK AUDREY IF SHE'D LIKE TO BE OUR GUIDE ON OUR NEXT SCHOOL OUTING. IF YOU AGREE TO HAVE IT HERE AT THE REFUGE.

Hector says, YES, OF COURSE. IT WOULD BE A PLEASURE TO HAVE YOU HERE.

Mrs. Da Costa says, THANK YOU SO MUCH. MY STUDENTS WILL LOVE THIS OUTING.

[Children giggling]

Mrs. Da Costa says, JUST ONE SMALL DETAIL. NO PLAYING HIDE-AND-SEEK NEXT TIME.

[Audrey giggling]

Hector says, HMM? HMM?

Tommy says, HMM. HIDE-AND-SEEK. UH... HIDE-AND-SEEK. AREN'T WE FORGETTING SOMETHING?
