Tommy shouts, AUDREY! AH! HEY! WHOA!

[Whooshing, smacking, Tommy shouting]

A sugar glider hits Tommy’s face.

Tommy asks, WHO TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS?!

[Audrey laughing]

In an examination room, Audrey stands with one foot on a ladder.

Audrey says, HANG ON!

[Tommy grunting, whooshing]

The sugar glider clings to Tommy’s face as he hops backwards.

Audrey says, I'M GONNA...YOU NEED TO STOP MOVING!

[Chittering]

Audrey says, OH!

[Chittering, Audrey giggling]

Tommy asks, WHAT'S WRONG WITH STICKY? HE'S NOT USUALLY SO WILD!

[Audrey laughing, upbeat music plays, chittering]

Audrey says, THIS ISN'T STICKY! THIS IS ACTUALLY OUR NEWEST RESIDENT, USKA!

Tommy says, OH! AW...WELCOME TO THE REFUGE, USKA.WHERE'S SHE FROM?

[Whooshing]

Hector looks into the examination room.

Hector says, HER PREVIOUS OWNERS ABANDONED HER, SO WE TOOK HER IN. SUGAR GLIDERS AREN'T MEANT TO BE PETS ANYWAY.

[Squeaking, chittering]

Audrey says, POOR USKA HAS SPENT HER WHOLE LIFE IN AN APARTMENT, SO WE'RE TRYING TO SEE IF WE CAN GET HER TO GLIDE. CAN WE GO SHOW HER HER NEW HOME, DAD?

Hector says, YES, I'M DONE EXAMINING HER.

[Tommy giggling gleefully]

Hector continues, BUT DON'T FORGET, USKA WAS RAISED LIKE A HOUSEHOLD PET, SO SHE'S NOT USED TO A JUNGLE ENVIRONMENT. BE CARE…

[Door slamming]

Audrey cheers, WOO-HOO!

Tommy cheers, YEAH!

Hector shrugs.

Hector says, HMM? BE CAREFUL. AH, THOSE KIDS...

[Hector chuckling]

[Birds chirping, bright music plays]

In the Greenhouse, Babou watches Audrey, Tommy, and Uska from a branch; Audrey carries Uska on her arm.

Audrey says, STICKY! STICKY! WE HAVE A NEW FRIEND WE'D LIKE YOU TO MEET! SO, WHADDYA THINK? YOUR NEW HOME IS PRETTY COOL, HUH?

[Animals chittering, birds calling, Marcelo chittering, whooshing, rustling]

Jonas says, OH! HEY! OH!

[Gasping, leaves rustling, clunking, dramatic music plays]

Tommy says, WHOA!

[Thumping, chittering, upbeat music plays]

Jonas stumbles onto a pathway and puts down a leaf blower.

Audrey says, OH, HELLO, JONAS! YOU HAVEN'T SEEN STICKY, HAVE YA? WE'D LIKE HIM TO MEET USKA!

Jonas says, PLEASURE TO MEET YOU, USKA! WELCOME TO THE REFUGE! HAVE A LOOK BY THE BANKSIAS, STICKY'S USUALLY AROUND THERE.

Tommy says, OH, YEAH! THOSE ARE SUGAR GLIDERS FAVOURITE FLOWERS!

[Thunking, Jack vocalizing excitedly, blower revving]

Jack lands by Audrey. Behind her, Jonas kneels beside the leaf blower.

Audrey says, HELLO THERE, JACK! THIS HERE IS USKA.

[Jack vocalizing, Uska chittering, blower whirring, Uska growling, Audrey stammering]

Jonas stands with the leaf blower on his back.

Jonas says, THERE WE GO. GO IT STARTED AH, WHAT'S WRONG?

[High-pitched growling]

Uska climbs a tree and looks down at Jack.

Audrey says, UH... USKA, DON'T BE SCARED! JACK IS VERY NICE!

[Blower whirring, panicked squeaking, blower whirring, upbeat music plays]

Uska leaps away on branches.

Tommy says, HURRY, WE NEED TO CATCH HER!

[Jack vocalizing]

Jack makes the American Sign Language sign for Sorry.

Audrey says, NO NEED TO BE SORRY, JACK. YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG.

[Panting, squeaking, whooshing, squeaking, thudding, sniffing, Joyo snorting]

Uska glides towards a branch and switches direction when she sees another animal perched there. She lands on the ground in front of Joyo, a babirusa.

[High-pitched growling, startled squealing]

Uska jumps and growls at Joyo, and he runs away from her.

Audrey says, OVER THERE!

Tommy says, HUH?

Audrey says, THERE'S SOMETHING HIDING IN THE BUSHES!

[Blower whirring]

Leaves blow past Audrey and Tommy. Audrey covers her ears.

Audrey shouts, AH!

Tommy says, HEY, STOP THAT, JONAS!

Jonas says, OH, HUH? BUT... BUT WHY?

[Nervous squeaking, birds singing]

Tommy kneels and looks under a bush.

Tommy says, THERE SHE IS.

Audrey says, SHH.

Jonas says, OKAY, I GET IT, I'LL GO CLEAN SOMEWHERE ELSE. JUST DOING MY JOB...

[Blower clicking, footsteps rustling]

Tommy says, POOR USKA. YOU LOOK SCARED TO DEATH.

[Blower whirring]

Jonas clears leaves behind Tommy and Audrey. Tommy glares at him.

Tommy says, HERE, C'MON! ARGH...COME ON!

[Crunching, dramatic music plays]

Tommy shouts, YOW!

Tommy says, SHE BIT ME!

Tommy stands and holds his hand. Uska runs away.

Audrey says, WHAT? ARE YOU OKAY, TOMMY?

Tommy says, YEA, BUT IT REALLY HURT.

[Nervous squeaking, Tommy grunts, rustling, birds chirping]

Uska runs up a tree and trembles as she watches Audrey and Tommy from a branch. Audrey approaches the tree.

Audrey says, OH, COME BACK, USKA. EVERYTHING'S OKAY.

Tommy says, AUDREY, CAREFUL! SHE'LL BITE YOU TOO!

[Tommy groaning, nervous squeaking, whooshing, grunting]

Tommy looks at his hand. Audrey swings up onto the branch with Uska.

Audrey says, NO ONE HERE WANTS TO HURT YOU. THERE... IT'S OKAY, USKA.

[Rustling, squeaking, gentle music plays]

Uska jumps onto Audrey’s hand. Audrey leans back against the tree and pets Uska.

Tommy says, I'M GONNA GO TO THE CLINIC TO DISINFECT THIS BITE.

Audrey says, HUH? UH...

[Slapping]

Audrey startles and then smacks her forehead with her palm.

Audrey says, NO! ACTUALLY, WE HAVE ANTISEPTIC IN THE CABIN! COME, I'LL SHOW YA.

Tommy says, BUT THE CLINIC'S CLOSER. WHY DON'T YOU WANT ME TO GO?

Audrey says, WAIT, STOP!

Tommy says, HMM?

Audrey says, IF MY DAD FINDS OUT SHE BIT YOU, THEN HE'LL REFUSE TO KEEP USKA.

[Tommy gasping, sad music plays]

Tommy asks, BUT WHY?

Audrey replies, IT'S THE NUMBER ONE RULE IN THE REFUGE, SO THAT THE ANIMALS CAN ALL LIVE TOGETHER IN THE GREENHOUSE.

[Uska chittering]

Tommy asks, BUT WHAT IF SHE BITES SOMEONE ELSE?

Audrey replies, SHE WON'T! NEVER AGAIN. SHE WAS JUST BEING A LITTLE SKITTISH. RIGHT, USKA? C'MON, TOMMY! WE'LL GO DISINFECT YOUR HAND.

[Tommy grunting, animals calling, whooshing, birds chirping, bottle tapping]

Audrey grabs Tommy and runs to the cabin. At the cabin, Tommy pours disinfectant on a cotton ball and wipes the bite.

Tommy says, OKAY, I FINISHED THE BOTTLE. OOF! IT ACTUALLY WASN'T THAT BAD. SHE ONLY REALLY NICKED ME.

[Tommy chuckling, Uska chittering, upbeat music plays]

Uska runs up a shelving unit.

Audrey says, HMM, AND I THINK USKA IS ALSO FEELING MUCH BETTER! GO ON, JUMP!

[Smacking, Tommy shouting, whooshing, slide whistle, lively music plays]

Uska jumps off the top shelf and hits Tommy’s face. He stands and waves his arms.

Tommy asks, WHO KEEPS TURNING OFF THE DARN LIGHTS?! AH!

[Chittering, Audrey chuckling]

Audrey takes Uska off Tommy’s face.

Tommy says, UH...

[Nervous chuckling]

Tommy says, SHE GLIDES WELL, BUT HER LANDINGS STILL NEED A BIT OF WORK.

Audrey says, LET'S GO FIND STICKY. I'M SURE WHEN SHE MAKES A NEW FRIEND, USKA WILL FEEL RIGHT AT HOME! AND YOU'LL NEVER BITE ANYONE AGAIN, AGREED?

[Uska chittering, sniffing, birds chirping, flapping, upbeat music plays, rustling, sniffing, Sticky chittering]

In the jungle, Uska jumps onto the banksia flowers. Sticky watches from a high branch.

Audrey says, STICKY!

[Chittering]

Audrey says, COME AND MEET YOUR NEW FRIEND! HOLD HER FOR A SECOND.

[Tommy wincing]

Tommy says, UH... NO, I'LL WAIT TO HOLD STICKY. COME ON DOWN, STICKY! YOU REMEMBER ME, RIGHT?

[Squeaking, whooshing]

Sticky glides down to Tommy’s arm.

Tommy says, HMM?

[Tommy laughing, sugar gliders chittering]

Audrey says, LOOK AT THAT! THEY LOVE EACH OTHER ALREADY!

[Blower whirring, Uska hissing]

Uska leaps at Sticky, and they run in circles around his chest and back.

Tommy says, AH! WHOA! HEY! AH, AH, AH!

[Audrey gasping, lively music plays]

Tommy says, AUDREY! DO SOMETHING!

Audrey says, USKA, STOP IT! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

[Thudding]

Tommy falls to the ground, and Uska and Sticky run in opposite directions.

Tommy says, AH!

[Tommy groaning]

Audrey says, GOTCHA!

[Crunching]

Audrey picks Uska up, and Uska bites her.

Audrey says, OW!

[Chittering]

Tommy says, SHE BIT YOU, DIDN'T SHE?

Audrey says, IT'S NO BIG DEAL.

Tommy says, OH, YEAH? WHEN SHE BIT ME, YOU SAID SHE WAS JUST SKITTISH. BUT NOW, SHE ATTACKED STICKY! SHE BIT YOU! WHY'RE YOU PROTECTING HER?

[Audrey sniffling, chittering, sad music plays]

Audrey says, BECAUSE SHE'S ALREADY BEEN ABANDONED ONCE, AND I DON'T WANT TO PUT HER THROUGH THAT AGAIN! PLEASE DON'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT THIS.

Tommy says, HMM... OKAY. I'LL GO GET YOU THE ANTISEPTIC FROM THE CLINIC.

Audrey says, THANK YOU. IT'LL BE OKAY, USKA. I PROMISE.

[Chittering]

Audrey says, MMM!

At the Veterinary clinic, Tommy opens a cupboard and takes a bottle of antiseptic.

Tommy says, OH...

[Nervous grunting, panting, thumping, clattering]

Tommy runs out of the clinic and straight into Hector. He drops the antiseptic bottle.

Hector says, AH, TOMMY! EVERYTHING OKAY WITH USKA? HMM?

Tommy says, UH, YEAH, EVERYTHING'S GREAT!

[Tommy fake laughing, tense music plays]

Hector picks up the bottle. Tommy grabs the bottle and runs.

Tommy says, UH, REALLY, REALLY GREAT! SHE'S FANTASTIC! WELL, I GOTTA GET GOING! SEE YA, LATER!

Hector says, HOLD ON A SEC!

Tommy says, HUH?

Hector says WHY DO YOU NEED ANTISEPTIC?

[Tommy whimpering]

[Birds chirping, Uska squeaking, Audrey giggling, Jack vocalizing]

In a clearing in the greenhouse, Audrey and Jack play with Uska. Tommy arrives with slumped shoulders, looking at the ground.

Audrey says, AH, TOMMY! I HAVE AN IDEA THAT'LL HELP US UNDERSTAND WHY USKA IS BEING AGGRESSIVE. DAD?

Hector walks into the clearing, carrying an animal carrier.

Hector says, I'M VERY SORRY, AUDREY. BUT IF USKA IS BEING AGGRESSIVE, WE CAN'T KEEP HER. YOU KNOW THE RULE.

[Sad music plays, Uska chittering]

Audrey says, BUT, BUT, BUT...HMPH! YOU TOLD HIM?!

Tommy says, I HAD TO TELL HIM. SHE COULD BITE SOMEONE ELSE, OR EVEN ATTACK OTHER ANIMALS!

Audrey says, BUT SHE JUST GOT HERE TODAY, DAD! WE HAVE TO GIVE HER TIME TO ADAPT.

Hector says, I KNOW THIS IS HARD, AUDREY, BUT USKA NEEDS TO BE TAKEN SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY'RE BETTER EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM.

[Clanking, Uska squeaking]

Hector lifts the gate on the carrier.

Audrey says, OH...

[Audrey whimpering, sad squeaking, gate clattering]

Audrey puts Uska in the carrier and shuts the gate.

Hector says, I PROMISE, IT'S BETTER FOR HER.

[Jack vocalizing, clattering]

Hector takes the carrier.

Audrey says, DAD!

Hector says, I'M REALLY SORRY. I TRIED MY BEST NOT TO TELL HIM.

Audrey says, BUT YOU TOLD HIM ANYWAY, AND YOU ABANDONED USKA. WE ALL ABANDONED USKA. I KNOW WE DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE, BUT IT'S JUST SO UNFAIR, YA KNOW? USKA REALLY LIKED STICKY, AT FIRST. AND THEN SHE SUDDENLY SEEMED TO BE AFRAID OF SOMETHING.

[Blower whirring]

Jonas arrives with the leaf blower.

Tommy shouts, AHH!

Audrey and Tommy shout, STOP IT, JONAS!

Jonas says, WHAT DID YOU SAY? OH, SORRY!

[Jack vocalizing]

Jack covers his ears.

Tommy says, I AGREE WITH YOU, JACK. IT'S TOO LOUD!

[Blower whirring, upbeat music plays, whooshing, birds chirping]

Audrey turns and points at the blower.

Audrey says, OH? OF COURSE! IT'S THE BLOWER! IT'S TOO LOUD! IT TURNED ON AND STARTLED USKA BOTH TIMES SHE BIT US!

Tommy says, WAIT, SO YOU THINK USKA WAS JUST SCARED OF THE BLOWER? IT'S NOT 'CAUSE SHE'S AGGRESSIVE? WELL, THAT MAKES SENSE. STICKY'S USED TO THOSE LOUD NOISES, BUT SHE ISN'T!

Audrey says, WE HAVE TO GO TELL MY DAD BEFORE HE TAKES HER AWAY!

Tommy shouts, AH!

Audrey grabs Tommy’s hand and yanks him behind her.

[Jack vocalizing]

Audrey says, DAD!

[Birds singing, truck door slamming, Audrey panting, chittering, skidding]

In front of the Veterinary clinic, Hector sits in the driver’s seat of a truck, and Uska’s carrier rests in the passenger seat. Audrey and Tommy slide in front of the truck and block it.

Audrey says, DAD! WAIT! USKA IS NOT AGGRESSIVE! IT WAS BECAUSE OF JONAS'S BLOWER! SHE'S AFRAID OF LOUD NOISES, THAT'S WHY... THAT'S WHY SHE BIT US!

Hector says, I'M SORRY, AUDREY. BUT THE REFUGE IS NEVER GOING TO BE CALM AND QUIET. THERE'S ALWAYS GONNA BE LOUD NOISES THAT CAN SET HER OFF. WE JUST CAN'T TAKE THAT RISK.

[Tommy panting, engine revving]

Hector says, OKAY, I'M OFF.

Tommy says, I THOUGHT SHE SHOULD GO AT FIRST TOO, BUT MAYBE WE CAN HELP HER GET USED TO THE NOISES IN THE REFUGE? IT'S AT LEAST WORTH A TRY, RIGHT?

Audrey says, I'M BEGGING YOU! YOU KNOW WE CAN DO IT!

Hector says, OKAY, THEN. I'LL GIVE YOU ONE LAST CHANCE.

Hector gives Audrey the animal carrier.

Audrey says, THANKS!

Tommy cheers, YEAH!

[Both giggling]

[Upbeat music plays]

In the greenhouse, Audrey, Tommy, and Hector gather on a rocky outcropping. Audrey holds Uska, and Hector kneels beside the leaf blower.

Audrey says, SEE, USKA? IT'S NICE AND CALM HERE. AND WE ALSO BROUGHT YOU PLENTY OF TOYS.

[Squeaking, chittering]

Uska pushes a ball and chases it. She grabs it and rolls with it.

Audrey asks, READY FOR PHASE TWO, TOMMY?

Tommy holds Sticky.

Tommy says, MM-HMM!

Audrey says, ALRIGHT, SO NOW, USKA HAS TO PLAY NICELY WITH STICKY WITHOUT BEING AGGRESSIVE.

Tommy says, DON'T WORRY, STICKY. WE'LL BE RIGHT HERE IN CASE THERE'S ANY KIND OF PROBLEM.

[Chittering, playful squeaking]

Sticky and Uska sniff noses. Sticky chases a ball, and Uska follows him.

Audrey says, AND NOW, THE HARDEST PART. OKAY, DAD. USKA IS DISTRACTED. GO AHEAD.

Hector says, I'M TURNING ON THE BLOWER NOW! AH, I REALLY HOPE THIS'LL WORK.

[Blower whirring, Uska hissing, suspenseful music plays]

Uska stops running, and Sticky crashes into her bottom. She turns around and hisses. Audrey takes off her ear protectors.

Audrey says, EVERYTHING'S OKAY, USKA. IT'S JUST A SILLY BLOWER. YOU'RE NOT IN ANY REAL DANGER.

[Sticky chittering, Audrey gasping]

Audrey rolls the ball, and Sticky chases it. Uska chases Sticky.

Audrey says, AH!

[Laughing, happy music plays]

Everyone smiles and watches the sugar gliders play.

Audrey says, IT WORKED! USKA DIDN'T ATTACK STICKY! LOOK, THEY'RE PLAYING!

[Laughing, happy music plays]

In a montage, Jack holds Uska in his palm. Audrey and Tommy watch with big, shiny eyes. Behind them, Jonas uses a chainsaw on a bush. Another time, Joyo and Uska look into a bowl. Pat uses a mallet on a nail behind them. Uska and Sticky cling to the banksia flowers.

[Animal screeching, upbeat music plays]

Later, Sticky chases Uska across branches. Below, Audrey, Hector, Tommy, and Jack watch.

Hector says, I'M VERY PROUD OF YOU, SWEETIE. BECAUSE OF YOU, USKA CAN STAY WITH US.

[Audrey chuckling]

Tommy says, WHERE SHE'LL BE ABLE TO IMPROVE ON HER LANDINGS! USKA! GO ON, JUMP!

[Tommy laughing, chittering, smacking, thudding, Tommy grunting]

Jack and Tommy hold out their arms. Sticky lands on Jack’s arm, and Uska lands on Tommy’s face.

Tommy says, WHOA! OOF!

[Squeaking]

Tommy takes Uska off his face.

Audrey says, WELL, WE STILL HAVE WORK TO DO.

[Laughing, Jack vocalizing]

[Upbeat music plays]
