Tommy asks, THE WHAT?

Hector says, THE NEW LITTLE GUY!

[Birds chirping, Hector yawning, gentle music plays]

Hector stretches.

Hector says, THERE WAS A PROBLEM, SO HE GOT HERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE LEGEND HAS IT THAT IT BRINGS BAD LUCK.

Tommy says, HUH? B-B-B-B-BAD LUCK?!

[Tense music plays]

Hector says, YES. THEY ALSO SAY AYE-AYES ROAM AROUND CEMETERIES AT NIGHT, AND THAT WHEN YOU LOOK INTO THEIR EYES, THEY WILL PUT AN EVIL CURSE ON YOU WITH THEIR LONG, POINTY FINGERS!

[Hector chuckling, Tommy gulping, whimpering]

Audrey says, PFF! OH, NO!

[Clanking]

Audrey picks up Tommy’s metal lunchbox. Tommy picks up a metal box.

Tommy says, HMM? MMM... OH! PHEW, I ALMOST LOST MY LUNCH THERE!

Audrey says, DAD TOLD US ABOUT THE AYE-AYE. WE WANT TO SAY HI!

[Whooshing, clanking]

Pat picks up the rest of the metal boxes. Audrey gives her Tommy’s metal lunchbox.

Pat says, OOH! GRI-GRI? HE'S ASLEEP IN HIS NEST. AYE-AYES ARE NOCTURNAL, AND HE'S JUST HAD A LONG JOURNEY.

Audrey says, AH... WE'D BETTER LET HIM SLEEP, THEN.

Tommy says, PHEW! THAT'S GOOD.

[Snapping, birds chirping]

Tommy snaps the shoulder straps on his backpack. Audrey and Pat look at him.

Tommy says, HMM?

[Upbeat music plays, Tommy giggling nervously]

Tommy asks, WHAT HAPPENED HERE?

[Marcelo screeching]

Audrey says, THE WINDOW WAS LEFT OPEN, AND THE ANIMALS GOT IN.

[Thunking]

Audrey closes the window.

Tommy says, ARGH... WHAT A MESS. TALK ABOUT UNLUCKY.

[Whooshing]

Audrey says, MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE OF GRI-GRI...

Tommy says, HUH?! YOU THINK?

Audrey says, AH, OF COURSE NOT! WE ALWAYS FORGET TO CLOSE THE WINDOW.

[Rustling]

Audrey picks up an armful of books.

Tommy says, OH, YEAH. BUT STILL, WHY'D THE ANIMALS PICK TODAY TO COME IN?

[Whimpering, whooshing]

Tommy notices a book in Audrey’s arms.

Tommy says, AH, AH! PHEW...

Round, yellow eyes stare at Tommy from beneath a bookcase.

[Tommy shouting, broom clattering, water sloshing, exciting music plays, clanking, splashing, Tommy shouting]

Tommy drops the broom and steps into the pail. He falls backwards, and the pail flies up into the air. The pail and water fall on him.

Tommy says, THE AYE-AYE! HE WAS THERE!

[Tommy whimpering, rustling]

Audrey says, GRI-GRI? WAIT, PAT SAID HE WAS SLEEPING!

[Tense music plays]

Tommy says, BUT I SAW HIM! I LOOKED HIM IN THE EYES! HE...HE CURSED ME, I JUST KNOW IT!

Audrey says, HE "CURSED YOU" OR ARE YOU JUST CLUMSY?

[Whooshing, Tommy grunting, clattering, cheerful music plays]

Tommy peers suspiciously around the room. Tommy looks beneath a potted plant and then puts the pot down.

Audrey says TOMMY, STOP. GRI-GRI ISN'T HERE!

Tommy asks, HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT? YOU DIDN'T SEE EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENED TO ME?

[Whooshing, clunking, cheerful music continues]

Tommy looks under another plant. Audrey relaxes on a chair with her hands behind her head.

Audrey says, I SAW, LIKE, LAST WEEK WHEN YOU WERE LOCKED IN THE BATHROOM, WHEN YOU ATE A HOT PEPPER, AND WHEN YOU TRIPPED ON A SNAKE. GRI-GRI WASN'T AROUND THEN.

[Rumbling, Tommy whimpering]

Tommy says, EEE! WHAT WAS THAT?

[Rumbling, birds chirping]

Tommy says, WHAT, WHADDYA—

[Whooshing, Tommy shouting, whimpering, bright music plays, popping]

Audrey pulls Tommy behind her and runs to the Vivarium. Inside, Pat opens a snake tank and opens Tommy’s lunchbox. She sets the sandwich on the tank.

Pat says, HMM?

[Tommy panting]

Audrey says, PAT! COULD YOU TELL US WHERE GRI-GRI'S NEST IS, PLEASE?

[Tommy giggling]

Audrey says, TOMMY SEEMS TO BE SEEING HIM EVERYWHERE. I WANT TO SHOW HIM THAT HE'S HERE SLEEPING PEACEFULLY IN HIS NEST.

Pat says, HIS NEST IS NEAR THE CAVE. BUT DON'T WAKE HIM UP, OKAY?

Audrey says, YES, OF COURSE! THANKS, PAT!

[Tommy whimpering, tapping]

Pat turns and reaches for the sandwich, discovering it is gone. She peers into the tank.

Audrey says, THERE!

[Grunting, bright music notes play, vine creaking]

Tommy says, CAREFUL, THE BAD LUCK WILL BE VERY POWERFUL AROUND HERE.

Audrey says, DON'T WORRY.

[Audrey grunting, thumping]

Audrey climbs the vine and looks into the empty nest.

Audrey says, EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE FINE. HUH? WHERE IS HE?

Tommy asks, DID YOU FIND HIM?

Audrey replies, UH... I DON'T GET IT. HE'S NOT HERE!

Tommy says, YOU SEE? THAT'S WHAT I TOLD YOU!

Audrey says, COME ON...

[Snapping, whooshing, shouting]

The vine breaks, and Audrey falls.

Audrey says, HMM?

[Rustling, tense music plays]

Audrey and Tommy shout, IT'S THE CURSE!

[Both screaming, leaves rustling, door creaking]

[Rustling, Tommy giggling, suspenseful music plays, Gri-Gri grunting]

Audrey picks up her walkie-talkie and runs away from the pile on the trapdoor. Gri-Gri peers over the top of the pile. In the Vivarium, Pat looks at a map with sticky notes on three locations.

Pat says, DEPARTED FROM HERE... AH, YES, OF COURSE.

[Static crackling]

Audrey, via walkie-talkie, says, AUDREY TO PAT! AUDREY TO PAT!

[Static crackling, beeping]

Pat, via walkie-talkie, says, OH! AUDREY? Y'OKAY?

[Static crackling, suspenseful music plays]

A rope lies on the floor close to Gri-Gri.

Audrey says, TOMMY, I'VE GOT AN IDEA! QUICK, DISTRACT HIM!

Tommy asks, WHAT?!

[Tommy whimpering, birds chirping]

Tommy and Gri-Gri stare at each other. Tommy holds a cloth between him and Gri-Gri. Audrey sneaks to the rope and picks it up.

[Tommy grunting, whooshing, thunking, Jack grumbling]

Gri-Gri lowers his ears and peeks at Tommy over the arm of a chair. Audrey throws the rope's end out the window, and it hits Jack’s head. She ties the other end to a tree branch in the cabin.

Tommy says, HMM?

Audrey says, THERE WE GO! QUICK, CLIMB DOWN! GRI-GRI, OVER HERE!

[Tommy panting, tense music plays]

Tommy runs to the rope and picks it up.

Tommy says, YEAH, WELL I'D LOVE TO, BUT I'M NOT EXACTLY A CLIMBING PRO!

[Whooshing]

Tommy ties the middle of the rope around his waist.

Tommy says, COME ON, TOMMY!

[Jack sniffing, vocalizing, rope creaking]

Jack tugs on the rope and pulls Tommy towards the window.

[Tommy screaming, rope creaking, thumping, Tommy grunting]

Tommy hits the window and braces his feet against either side.

Tommy says, AUDREY!

[Audrey gasping, screaming, whooshing, Tommy screaming, whooshing, creaking, thudding]

Audrey runs to Tommy and pulls on him. Gri-Gri panics and runs around the room. On the ground, Jack tugs on the rope. Gri-Gri jumps on the top of the window, and it shuts, snapping the rope. Audrey and Tommy fall backwards into the room.

Tommy asks, WHAT... WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

[Rustling, birds chirping]

Audrey stands and walks to the window. She opens it and looks down at Jack.

Tommy says, WHA...? THE JET LAG?

Pat says, YEAH, GRI-GRI CAME FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PLANET. IT'S NIGHT WHERE HE'S FROM. THAT'S WHY HE'S WIDE AWAKE. IT'LL BE BETTER IN A COUPLE OF DAYS.

Tommy says, OH... I'M SORRY, GRI-GRI. I HOPE WE CAN BE FRIENDS.

[Tommy giggling, Gri-Gri squeaking]
