Audrey stands as she slides down a rock past Karl and Pat. Karl, a slender young man with black hair and eyeglasses, watches Audrey slide past. Pat bottle-feeds a large grey kitten with black spots. Her black hair is pulled into a ponytail. Tommy rides Jack down the rock.

Audrey and Jack, still carrying Tommy, run past Jonas, a man with curly red hair. He lifts a rake over his head and spins as they pass.

The tall iron gates in front of the Shelter are open. Tommy rides his bicycle down the path, and Maeva follows him on her scooter. In front of the veterinary clinic, Audrey stands on a bench behind Jack.

Audrey AH-HA! I GOT ONE!

[Jack vocalizing, Audrey laughing]

Audrey says, OH, NO, NO! I DON'T EAT FLEAS, JACK!

Tommy says, HELLO, AUDREY! YOU'VE ALREADY STARTED OUR VETERINARY APPRENTICESHIP?

Audrey says, NO! I'M JUST HELPING JACK OUT.

[Audrey laughing, munching]

Jack eats the flea in Audrey’s hand.

Tommy says, AH.

Audrey says, OW!

[Tommy giggling]

Tommy says, WELL, THIS WEEK, I REVIEWED THE FIVE ANIMAL CLASSES. BIRDS, REPTILES, FISH, AMPHIBIANS...

[Gasping, slapping]

Tommy puts his hands on his forehead.

Tommy says, AND THE MAMMALS! I FORGOT ABOUT MAMMALS!

[Tommy groaning, Audrey laughing]

Tommy slumps against the wall.

Audrey says, DON'T WORRY, TOMMY! IT'S NOT LIKE IT'S AN EXAM!

Maeva says, I WANTED TO HAVE A HORSE VETERINARIAN. BUT THE ONLY VET AVAILABLE WAS YOUR DAD.

[Whooshing, birds chirping]

Audrey jumps off the bench.

Audrey says, MY DAD IS A VETERINARIAN FOR ALL ANIMALS. IT'S WAY BETTER!

Maeva says, WHAT ABOUT YOU? WHY DO YOU WANT TO SPEND THE DAY WITH HIM? DON'T YOU KNOW ALL OF HIS TRADE SECRETS ALREADY?

Audrey says, I KNOW A COUPLE OF THINGS, BUT IF I WANT TO BE THE BEST VETERINARIAN, I'VE GOT TO PRACTICE!

[Jack vocalizing, whooshing]

Jack picks a flea out of his hair and offers it to Maeva.

Maeva says, AH!

[Tommy and Audrey laughing]

[Hector clearing his throat, upbeat music continues]

Inside the clinic, Hector stands in an examination room.

Hector cheerfully says, I'M HECTOR, THE VETERINARIAN FOR THE REFUGE. MM, NO...

Hector says, HELLO! MY NAME'S HECTOR! AND I'M AN ANIMAL DOCTOR!

Hector poses on a counter by the window.

Hector cooly says, HI, THERE. I'M DOCTOR H. A WILDLIFE DOCTOR RIGHT HERE IN THE FLESH.

Outside, Pat stops by the window and waves to Hector.

Pat says, HMM. HELLO, HECTOR.

Hector says, AH!

[Hector grunting, thumping]

Hector startles and falls off the counter.

Pat says, YOU WANTED TO SEE ME.

[Hector clearing his throat, whooshing]

Hector stands.

Hector says, UH, YES. COULD YOU FIND EESHA FOR ME PLEASE? I PLAN TO DO A LITTLE DEMONSTRATION WITH HER FOR THE CHILDREN.

Pat says, I'M ON IT, DOCTOR H.!

[Hector chuckling nervously]

Hector says, UH, PAT... UH... CAN I ASK YOU A QUESTION?

Pat says, MMM.

Hector asks, DO YOU THINK THE CHILDREN WILL ENJOY THEIR TIME WITH ME? THEY WON'T FIND MY LESSONS TOO BORING?

Pat says, DON'T WORRY, HECTOR. YOU'RE AN AWESOME VET. JUST BE YOURSELF, AND IT'LL BE GREAT! BUT MAYBE WORK ON YOUR JOKES A BIT.

[Pat laughing]

Pat winks and backs away from the window.

Hector says, HMM?

[Hector groaning, door opening, cheerful music plays]

Later, in the examination room, Hector says, THIS WAY, EVERYONE! WATCH OUT FOR THE EQUIPMENT.

Maeva says, OH! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE BEEN HERE!

Audrey says, IF YOU'VE GOT ANY QUESTIONS, I CAN ANSWER THEM.

Maeva says, HMM...

Hector stands beside a sketch of a parrot skeleton pinned to a bulletin board.

Hector says, A GOOD VETERINARIAN KNOWS THE ANATOMY OF HIS ANIMALS DOWN TO THE BONES. THAT'S WHY THE FIRST THING WE'LL STUDY IS A PARROT SKELETON. IT'S LIKE THE REAL THING! BUT LESS TALKATIVE.

[Hector laughing]

Hector says, HMM?

[Clearing his throat]

Hector says, OKAY, NOW... FOR YOUR FIRST EXERCISE, YOU WILL REPRODUCE THIS SKELETON!

[Rattling]

Hector slides three boxes of skeleton parts across an examination table. Maeva takes the parts out of her box. Audrey furrows her eyebrows.

Audrey asks, HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO THIS?

Hector asks, AUDREY?

Audrey says, HMM?

Hector asks, YOU HAVE A QUESTION?

Audrey says, NO, IT'S OKAY! IT'S EASY!

Tommy has bones lined up neatly on the table in front of him. He takes a bone out of the box.

Tommy says, OH! I FOUND THE FURCULA! AWESOME!

Audrey says, EH...

Hector says, OKAY, THAT'S IT! TIME'S UP! EVERYONE LAY DOWN YOUR BONES!

[Hector laughing, upbeat music plays]

The children stare at Hector.

Tommy says, HMM...

[Hector clearing his throat, chuckling nervously]

Hector looks at Tommy’s assembled skeleton.

Tommy says, YOU DIDN'T SPECIFY WHETHER THE MACAW WAS FROM THE SOUTH OR NORTH OF CENTRAL AMERICA.

Hector says, OH, IT DOESN'T REALLY CHANGE ANYTHING. VERY GOOD WORK, TOMMY!

Maeva says, HMM...

Maeva’s skeleton resembles a horse with a parrot’s head.

Hector says, WAIT, WHAT THE...

Maeva asks, CAN WE GO AND SEE THE HORSE NOW?

Hector says, UH, YES, LATER.

Audrey nervously says, UH...

Audrey holds a bone over her jumbled skeleton.

Hector says, MM, IT'S NOT BAD, BUT WATCH... THIS BONE UP HERE SHOULD ACTUALLY GO... UH, UH... SOMEWHERE OVER HERE, LIKE THIS.

[Gasping, clattering]

Hector moves a bone, and the skeleton falls apart.

Audrey says, I, UH... I WASN'T FINISHED!

[Maeva laughing]

Maeva says, FOR THE DAUGHTER OF A VETERINARIAN, YOU SURE NEED A LOT MORE TRAINING!

[Audrey grumbling, whirring]

Pat, via walkie-talkie, says, HECTOR, PAT HERE! I FOUND EESHA.

Hector speaks into his walkie-talkie and says, OKAY, WE'RE COMING.

[Door clicking]

Hector opens the door.

Hector says, ALRIGHT! ONTO PRACTICAL!

Audrey says, AH, PHEW! I WON'T NEED TRAINING FOR THAT!

[Clattering]

Audrey puts a bone on her parrot's skeleton and walks away. The skeleton falls apart.


[Parrot squawking, upbeat music plays]

In the jungle, Hector and Jack walk behind the children on a path.

Hector says, CONSTRUCT A SKELETON; WHAT ON EARTH WAS I THINKING?

[Rustling, munching, Jack vocalizing]

Jack picks a mango and eats it.

Hector says, OH! OF COURSE, YOU'RE RIGHT! WE'RE NOT AT MEDICAL SCHOOL! WHAT THEY REALLY WANT IS TO SPEND TIME WITH REAL ANIMALS! THANKS, JACK!

[Hector laughing, parrot cawing, Eesha trumpeting, thumping, Audrey giggling, upbeat music plays]

Hector shakes Jack’s hand and runs after the children. Later, Hector, Audrey, Tommy, Maeva, and Jack stand by Eesha, a baby elephant. A red medical kit by Hector lies on the ground. Eesha stands up on her back legs and eats a leaf off a branch.

Hector says, A VETERINARIAN WHO TAKES HIS WORK SERIOUSLY KNOWS THE EXACT SIZE OF HIS PATIENTS. IT'S THE BEST WAY TO ASSURE THE ANIMAL GROWS WELL. LET'S MEASURE EESHA HERE, TOGETHER! CAREFUL, WITH AN ELEPHANT, IT'S EASY TO "FORGET"!

[Hector laughing, children groaning, whooshing, exciting music plays]

Hector holds his laser meter.

Hector says, YEAH... LET'S USE THIS LASER METER!

Babou swings on a vine and steals the laser meter.

Hector says, HMM?

[Babou calling excitedly]

Hector says, UH, I'LL BE RIGHT BACK!

[Whooshing, leaves rustling, exciting music plays]

Babou jumps from treetop to treetop. Hector chases him on the ground.

Hector shouts, BABOU! BABOU! NO!

[Measuring tape rattling]

Audrey picks up the measuring tape and runs towards Eesha.

Audrey says, HMM! YOU DON'T NEED A GADGET TO MEASURE EESHA! I'LL DO IT!

Tommy asks, WOULDN'T IT BE BETTER TO WAIT FOR YOUR DAD?

Audrey says, NO, NO, IT'S EASY! I CAN DO IT WITH MY EYES CLOSED!

[Audrey giggling, tape rattling, Eesha grunting, trumpeting, stomping, Audrey whimpering, tape rattling, tense music plays]

Audrey climbs a tree and hangs upside down from a branch. She extends the measuring tape beside Eesha. Eesha rears up, and the tree shakes. Audrey drops the measuring tape.

[Exciting music plays, trumpeting, children shouting, Jack vocalizing]

The measuring tape falls by Eesha, and she flees, knocking over Tommy and the medical kit. Maeva jumps and hugs Jack’s arm.

Maeva says, AH!

Hector returns with the laser meter.

Hector says, IT'S OKAY! I MANAGED TO THWART BABOU'S MONKEY BUSINESS. WHAT'S GOING ON?

Maeva says, AUDREY WAS SHOWING OFF HER VETERINARY TALENTS!

[Sad music notes play]

Hector looks up at Audrey.

Hector says, HMM? EEE!

Audrey says, I'M SO SORRY.

[Hector chuckling nervously]

Audrey says, HMM?

Hector says, OKAY! ON TO THE NEXT ONE!

[Scissors snipping, children giggling, upbeat music plays]

In a clearing, Hector cuts a bandage wrapped around an animal’s arm.

[Snipping]

Tommy wraps a bandage around Maeva’s arm.

Tommy says, HMM... HA!

[Snipping, Maeva giggling, scissors snipping, Audrey grunting, Jack’s panicked vocalizing, thumping]

Maeva wraps a bandage around Tommy’s arm and ties it with a bow. Audrey wraps a bandage around Jack’s left arm and right wrist. Jack stands and falls. Everyone gathers around and looks down at Jack.

Tommy says, OH...

Hector says, HMM?

[Giraffe grunting, upbeat music continues, children groaing]

Later, Hector swabs a giraffe’s nostril with a cotton swab. Maeva’s eyes grow large as she stands in front of Darius with a cotton swab in her hand.

Maeva says, AH!

[Bleating, splashing, thumping]

Audrey cleans Sascha, the saiga’s, nose, and he sneezes at her.

Tommy says, AH!

[Hector groaning nervously, Audrey whimpering]

Hector looks down at Audrey. Later, Hector squirts liquid from a syringe into Huan, the giant panda’s, mouth.

Maeva says, OH!

[Clicking, Maeva giggling, upbeat music continues, Hector shouting nervously, Audrey grunting, whooshing, rustling, Joyo squealing]

Tommy and Maeva put their syringes into bottles on the ground. Audrey’s syringe is stuck in the bottle. She puts the bottle between her teeth and pulls the syringe. The syringe flies and lands by Joyo on the other side of bamboo shoots. Everyone peers through the shoots and watches Joyo flee into the jungle.

Everyone says, UH...

[Audrey groaning]

Later, Audrey sits slumped on a tire swing. Tommy and Maeva sit on a nearby rock.

Maeva says, I HOPE WE GO BACK TO SEE DARIUS! HE'S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL HORSE!

Tommy says, AND HE'S ALSO QUITE FIERCE! IT'S INCREDIBLE HOW CLOSE YOU CAN GET TO HIM! YOU'D MAKE A GREAT HORSE VETERINARIAN. RIGHT, AUDREY?

[Maeva giggling]

Audrey says, UH... YES! I AGREE.

[Jack vocalizing, squelching, munching, gentle music plays]

Jack squishes fruit between two leaves and eats it. Hector lies on the leaves beside him.

Hector says, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE, JACK. ALL MY ACTIVITIES END UP A DISASTER. I'M THE WORST TEACHER IN THE WHOLE WORLD. HMM? HMM? YOU'RE RIGHT! I CAN DO THIS! THANKS, JACK!

[Hector laughing]

Hector says, OKAY! I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT IT A LOT AND, UH... WHERE DID AUDREY GO?

Tommy says, UH...

[Maeva mumbling, rustling, birds calling, animals squeaking]

Elsewhere, Audrey walks on a path in the jungle. She kicks a rock.

Audrey grumbles, HMPH! "YOU'D MAKE A GREAT VETERINARIAN! YOU'RE AWESOME, MAEVA!"

[Distant panicked animal calling, leaves rustling]

Audrey says, HUH?

[Audrey grunting]

Audrey runs through the jungle.

Audrey says, HMM?

[Audrey grunting, leaves rustling, panicked calling, whooshing, rustling, upbeat music plays, rustling]

Audrey swings on a vine and climbs over rocks. She moves leaves and sees Obi, a dendrolagus, lying on the ground with his knee bent over a tree branch.

Audrey says, OBI! DON'T MOVE! I'LL GET YOUR PAW OUTTA THERE!

[Cracking, pained crying]

Audrey moves Obi’s paw.

Audrey says, OH, SORRY! SORRY! I'LL GO GET HELP!

[Panting, Obi grunting sadly]

Audrey runs into the jungle.

[Sawing, Pat grunting, thudding, gentle music plays]

Later, Hector holds Obi’s leg as Pat saws the tree branch off. The children watch anxiously.

Audrey asks, IS IT REALLY BAD?

Hector says, HMM... DIFFICULT TO SAY. BUT I'D BETTER TAKE CARE OF IT RIGHT AWAY. I'M SO SORRY. BUT WE'LL HAVE TO TAKE A BREAK.

[Maeva grumbling]

Tommy asks, CAN WE HELP?

Hector says, UH... OF COURSE! I'M GOING TO NEED A STRONG AND STRAIGHT STICK.

[Tommy and Maeva grunting]

Tommy says, YOU GOT IT!

[Whooshing]

Tommy brings a small, straight stick to Hector.

Tommy asks, LIKE THIS?

Hector says, YES! PERFECT!

[Rustling]

Maeva gives Hector a bandage.

Maeva says, HERE'S THE BANDAGE.

Hector says, THANKS!

[Angry grumbling]

Hector says, AUDREY, A PAIR OF SCISSORS.

Audrey says, UH... OH!

[Rattling, rustling]

Maeva gives Hector the scissors.

[Snipping]

[Hands slapping, laughing, Audrey softly whimpering]

Audrey watches Tommy and Maeva high-five and waggle their fingers.

[Upbeat music plays]

Tommy, Maeva, and Jack walk through the jungle, with Pat carrying Obi.

Tommy asks, DO YOU REALIZE WE JUST SAVED AN ANIMAL?! MRS. DA COSTA ISN'T GOING TO BELIEVE HER EARS!

Maeva says, YEAH! WE REALLY DO MAKE A GREAT DUO!

[Tommy laughing, Audrey softly whimpering, footsteps rustling, birds calling]

Hector and Audrey walk behind Pat.

Hector says, HEY, IS EVERYTHING OKAY, SWEETIE? AH, I KNOW IT'S BEEN A BIT OF A MESS TODAY. BUT—

[Sad music plays, Audrey cries]

Audrey says, IT'S NOT THAT. IT'S... JUST…I'M NEVER GONNA BE A GREAT VETERINARIAN LIKE YOU.

Hector says, WHAT? BUT WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT?

Audrey says, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BANDAGE, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GIVE A SHOT, I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE MEASURING EESHA! I'M THE WORST VET IN THE WHOLE WORLD!

[Audrey whimpering]

Hector says, BUT THAT'S NOT A BIG DEAL, YOU CAN LEARN IT! YOU'LL GET IT! AND THERE'S SOMETHING YOU DO BETTER THAN ANYONE. YOU UNDERSTAND AND LISTEN TO ANIMALS! IT'S A GIFT! TRUST ME!

[Rustling]

Audrey hugs Hector.

Pat says, HECTOR! OBI IS NOT WELL AT ALL.

[Obi groaning]

Obi shakes. Later, in the clinic, Obi lies on the examination table. The children gather around him while Hector looks in a cabinet.

Hector says, HMM... HE'S GOT A FRACTURED ANKLE.

Tommy says, AH!

Hector says, I'LL GIVE HIM A LOCAL ANESTHETIC.

[Tense music plays]

Hector holds a needle and walks towards Obi.

Audrey says, DAD, WAIT! OBI HATES GETTING SHOTS!

[Obi squeaking, whooshing]

Obi jumps to the counter and climbs out the window.

Hector says, NO! OBI!

[Grunting, whooshing, tense music plays]

Audrey jumps out the window and searches for Obi.

Audrey shouts, OBI!

Tommy shouts, OBI!

Hector shouts, OBI!

Maeva shouts, OBI!

[Whooshing]

Audrey points at Obi on the roof of the clinic.

Audrey says, HE'S ON THE ROOF!

[Obi grunting nervously, tense music plays]

Obi looks at a tree branch.

Tommy says, HE'S GOING TO TRY TO JUMP TO THE TREE!

[Skidding, exclaiming]

Hector and Maeva run to Audrey and Tommy.

Hector says, OH, NO! THAT'LL MAKE HIS INJURY WORSE!

[Audrey grunting, ladder clattering]

Audrey climbs a ladder on the side of the clinic.

Audrey says, OBI! YOU'VE GOTTA COME HERE! WAIT!

[Obi squeaking, Jack vocalizing, nervous exclaiming]

Audrey says, ALRIGHT, GOT IT. I WON'T COME ANY CLOSER, OKAY?

[Panicked squealing, tense music plays]

Obi looks at the tree.

Audrey says, YOU CAN TRUST ME.

[Panicked grunting, birds chirping, Audrey chuckling softly, rustling, soft music plays, Obi grunting]

Obi looks at Audrey. He walks over and nudges Audrey's hand with his forehead.

Maeva asks, HOW DID SHE DO THAT?

[Birds chirping, whooshing]

In front of the clinic, Audrey sits on the bench with Obi snuggled in her lap. Hector gives Obi the needle and winks at Audrey.

Hector says, IT'S HER GIFT! THE SHOT WILL EASE THE PAIN WHILE I PUT ON A CAST. EXCELLENT WORK THERE, APPRENTICE!

[Upbeat music plays, children laughing]

Audrey says, HMM!

Hector says, AND WELL DONE, YOU THREE! YOU WERE ALL GREAT! I HOPE YOU STILL MANAGED TO ENJOY THE DAY DESPITE ALL THE PROBLEMS WE ENCOUNTERED.

Tommy says, HUH?! WELL, OF COURSE! IT WAS AWESOME! YOU TAUGHT US HOW TO RECONSTRUCT A SKELETON!

Audrey says, AND YOU SHOWED US HOW TO CARE FOR ANIMALS!
