Transcript: The Top Sources of Iron
Two animated brains move over a line maze. Two chomping halves of an animated pink brain join together. Text on banners over the brain reads, “Hungry Brain!”
[Upbeat music plays]
A voice says, HUNGRY BRAIN!
In an animation, a blender has green eyes and wears headphones around their neck. Text reads, “Marie Smoothie.”

Text reads, “F.E.”
[Zapping]
Marie says, THIS ESSENTIAL MINERAL IS SO HOT RIGHT NOW FOR YOUR BODY TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.
The narrator says, YEAH, AND WE'RE PROUD TO TELL YOU THAT IRON HELPS TRANSPORT OXYGEN TO CELLS IN YOUR TISSUES AND MUSCLES OF YOUR BODY.
A thermometer with “F.E.” at the bottom lowers the temperature.
[Whooshing, chiming]
Marie narrates, YOU KNOW HOW THOSE FOLKS WITH IRON DEFICIENCY OFTEN FEEL LOW IN ENERGY? THEIR BLOOD IS POORLY OXYGENATED. LOL, NEVER GONNA HAPPEN TO ME!
[Blender whirring]
Marie sings, YOO-HOO.
The narrator says, IN NATURE, IRON IS FOUND IN TWO FORMS: HEMATINIC IRON...
Graphics of steak, chicken, and shrimp appear.

Episode title: Top on Sources of Iron.
The narrator says, HERE'S THE TOP ON SOURCES OF IRON.
The number four appears on a slice of toast.
[Clicking, whooshing, dinging, upbeat music plays]
The narrator says, NUMBER FOUR: SPINACH.
Water boils in a pot.
[Bubbling]
The narrator says, EATING SPINACH IN A SALAD OR STEAMED WILL MAKE YOU AS STRONG AS POP-EYE.

Marie sings, ALL ABOARD FOR MUSCLE TOWN.
[Blender whirring]
The number three appears on a slice of toast.
[Clicking, whooshing, dinging, upbeat music plays]
The narrator says, NUMBER THREE: LENTILS. IRON FROM PLANT-BASED FOODS IS NOT AS WELL ABSORBED BY THE BODY AS THAT OF ANIMAL-BASED FOODS.
A less-than sign shows the plants as less than the shrimp, steak, mussels, and chicken. The temperature rises on the thermometer.
[Whooshing, slide whistle]
The narrator says, IF YOU WANT TO PUMP IRON WITHOUT EATING MEAT, YOU CAN CHOOSE A BOWL OF BLONDE, BROWN, CORAL, ORANGE, OR GREEN LENTILS - THEY'RE ALL RICH IN IRON.
Marie says, AND YOU CAN EAT THEM HOT OR COLD IN SALADS.
[Blender whirring]
Marie sings, LET'S GO, LENTIL.

[Clicking, whooshing, dinging, upbeat music plays]
The narrator says, NUMBER TWO: BLUE MUSSELS.
Three mussels appear in their shells.
The narrator says, MUSSELS ARE MOLLUSKS WITH A BLUEISH SHELL. THEY'RE FOUND EVERYWHERE IN THE SEA AROUND PLACES LIKE CANADA. EVEN IF THEY AREN'T EXACTLY MUSCLE-BOUND…
In an animation, a mussel swings a hammer, and a weight labelled “F.E.” rises and hits a bell.
[Dinging]
The narrator says, THE MUSSEL'S IRON CONTENT IS STRIKING.
Marie says, STRIKE WHILE THE IRON'S HOT.
[Blender whirring]
Marie sings, GO, MUSSELS.
The number one appears on a slice of toast.
[Clicking, whooshing, dinging, upbeat music plays]

Steam rises from a bowl of porridge. Small squares with “F.E.” float around the bowl. A bear appears, standing beside a clock. The bear gives a thumbs-up.
[Rattling], whooshing, upbeat music continues, clock ticking]
The narrator says, EAT IT FOR LUNCH AND YOU'LL FEEL FULL UNTIL DINNER TIME. HOT TIP: ADD SOME FRUIT RICH IN VITAMIN C, LIKE KIWIS OR RED BERRIES, AND YOUR BODY WILL ABSORB IRON EVEN BETTER.
Small “F.E.” squares fill a human body.
[Rattling]
Marie sings, A LUNCH THAT PACKS A PUNCH.
[Blender whirring]
The narrator says, ONCE THEY'RE ALL BLENDED, YOU GET A DELICIOUS BROWN...
