AND AN IMPORTANT MEMBER
OF HER COMMUNITY,
AND SHE'S ALWAYS READY FOR FUN
SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS!

During winter, Emily walks through a neighbourhood with a girl who has her tightly braided hair in pigtails.

The narrator says, LOOKS LIKE WE'RE READY.
ARE YOU?
WELL, LET'S GO!

[Upbeat music plays]

An animated sun, Sunny, waves. Over colourful art on a brick wall are different pictures of children. Sunny appears on the wall with text that reads, TVOKids Presents, Sunny’s Quest.

On a staircase, Emily says, MY NAME IS EMILY,
AND I'M NINE YEARS OLD.

She turns to two others on the staircase with her.

She says, THIS IS MY FAMILY.
THIS IS MY BROTHER.
AND THIS IS MY MOM.

Emily’s mom and brother wave.

Emily says, MY FAMILY'S FROM GHANA,
BUT I'M FROM FINDLAY
CREEK, ONTARIO, SO THAT MAKES ME
A PROUD CANADIAN
GHANAIAN.

She points to Canada and Ghana’s flags that appear above her. In front of a fireplace, Emily plays with a globe ball.

She narrates, FINLAY CREEK IS A SMALL
BUT MIGHTY SUBURB OF OTTAWA.

Ottawa is marked on a map.

Emily narrates, BOTH MY PARENTS ARE BORN IN GHANA.

A dotted line connects Ottawa to Ghana on the map.

In front of the fireplace, Emily says, THIS IS THE GHANAIAN FLAG.

The Ghanaian flag is shown.

Emily says, THE GHANAIAN FLAG HAS THREE
HORIZONTAL COLORS: RED,
YELLOW AND GREEN,
AND A BLACK STAR IN THE CENTER.

She walks out of a changing room wearing a colourful outfit.

Emily says, I'M FULL OF KENTE CLOTH!

She throws her hands in the air and poses in the Kente cloth.

Emily narrates, KENTE IS A VERY POPULAR FABRIC.
IT REPRESENTS THE GHANIAN
HISTORY AND CULTURE.

She dances.

She continues, I LOVE THE KENTE CLOTH
BECAUSE THE DESIGNS ARE
SO BEAUTIFUL
AND I LOVE THE COLORS.

Sunny appears and dances alongside Emily.

Emily narrates, I AM DANCING
ADOWA, WHICH IS A POPULAR
AND LIVELY GHANAIAN DANCE,
WHICH WAS A WAR DANCE.

She moves her hands and kicks her feet while dancing. With her brother, Emily sits at a table with a game.

Emily says, MY BROTHER AND I ALWAYS HAVE FUN
PLAYING OWARE.

She moves pebbles across a row.

Emily narrates, OWARE
IS A BOARD GAME.
ALSO KNOWN AS AFRICAN CHESS.
THE GAME HAS BEEN PLAYED IN WEST
AFRICA FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS.

Her brother moves pebbles across a row.

Emily says, I LOVE THIS GAME BECAUSE MY AUNT
GAVE ME THIS BOARD.
THE BOARD CONTAINS TWO ROWS
AND SIX
PITS EACH.

She picks up pebbles from a pit.

Emily says, OK, MY TURN.

She starts dropping pebbles in the pits.

Emily explains, WHEN YOU START THE GAME,
YOU ALWAYS START WITH FOUR
PEBBLES.
THE GOAL OF THE GAME
IS TO GET THE MOST PEBBLES.
A PLAYER GRABS ALL THE BEADS,
DROPPING THEM IN EACH PITS.
THE GAME IS OVER
WHEN A PLAYER CAPTURES
25 PEBBLES OR MORE.

She drops pebbles from one of the pits in a cup.

In the kitchen, Emily says, SOMETHING ELSE
THAT I ALSO ENJOY IS
GHANIAN CHOCOLATE.
I LIKE GHANAIAN CHOCOLATE
BECAUSE IT TASTES
RICHER THAN OTHER CHOCOLATE.

A bar of chocolate is open in front of her.

Emily says, NO WONDER GHANA IS THE SECOND
LARGEST PRODUCER OF COCOA
BEANS IN THE WORLD.

She takes a bite of the chocolate bar.

She says, MMM!
THIS IS THE
BEST CHOCOLATE IN THE WORLD!

Emily takes another bite of chocolate. Sunny appears and licks their lips. Emily snaps her fingers and her outfit changes to a girl guide uniform.

She says, NOW I'M READY TO SELL
GIRL GUIDE
COOKIES TO MY COMMUNITY.

In the living room, Emily kneels behind boxes of chocolate with the girl who wears her tightly braided hair in pigtails.

Emily says, THIS IS MY FRIEND
BRIANA FROM GIRL GUIDES.

Briana smiles and waves.

Emily says, I LOVE GIRL GUIDES
BECAUSE WE LEARN ABOUT CANADA
AND WE HELP OUR COMMUNITY.

She and Brianna pack boxes of cookies in a box.

Emily says, AT GIRL GUIDES.
WE ALWAYS HAVE FUN TOGETHER.
THERE'S ALWAYS AN ACTIVITY
TO DO.

She says to Briana, LET'S GO SELL SOME COOKIES.

The two friends carry their boxes outside.

Emily narrates, GIRL GUIDES OF CANADA
IS AN ORGANIZATION
FOR GIRLS LIKE ME.
IT EMPOWERS EVERY GIRL
TO DISCOVER HERSELF
AND BE EVERYTHING
SHE WANTS TO BE.

Sunny appears and puts on a crown. Emily and Briana walk through Emily’s neighbourhood.

Emily asks, WHICH HOUSE
SHOULD WE DO FIRST?

She points to one of the houses and walks up to the door with Briana. Emily rings the doorbell.

[Doorbell ringing]

A boy and two girls answer the door.

Emily and Briana ask, WOULD YOU GUYS LIKE TO BUY
GIRL GUIDE COOKIES?

The boy says, YES, 4 BOXES PLEASE.

Emily and Briana hand over four boxes of cookies. The boy pays Emily.

[Cash register dinging]

Animated dollar signs rain down.

Briana says, THANK YOU.

The boy says, NO PROBLEM.

Emily rings the doorbell of another house.

[Doorbell ringing]

A woman answers the door with a young girl.

The woman says, HELLO.

Emily and Briana say, HI!

Emily asks, WOULD YOU GUYS LIKE SOME
GIRL GUIDE COOKIES?

The woman says, YES PLEASE. WE WOULD LOVE
SOME!

Briana gives the woman a box of cookies.

The woman says, THANK YOU.

Briana gives the young girl a box of cookies.

She says, HERE YOU GO.

The woman and young girl say, THANK YOU!

The woman says, HERE YOU GO.

She pays Briana.

[Cash register dinging]

Animated dollar signs rain down.

Briana says, THANK YOU.

The woman says, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Emily says, BYE.

The woman says, BYE.

Emily and Briana walk down the street with their boxes of cookies. In a bedroom, pink curtains cover a window.

Emily narrates, WELCOME TO MY ROOM!

In front of the bed, Emily holds up a cat painting and a dog painting.

She says, I MADE
THESE TWO PAINTINGS.

The dog wears a red collar.

Emily narrates, IN GHANA
THERE ARE MANY LANGUAGES.
IN TWI, ONE OF THE LANGUAGES,
KRAMAN MEANS DOG AND
OKRA MEANS CAT.

She stands in front of a wall of art.

Emily says, THIS IS ME AND MY MOM’S
ART STUDIO,
WHERE ALL THE MAGIC HAPPENS.

She sits in front of an easel and works on a dog painting.

She narrates, MY FAVORITE COLORS
ARE BLUE AND GREEN.
I ENJOY PAINTING
BECAUSE IT'S LIKE AN EXPERIMENT
EVERY TIME.

Paintings of people and landscapes decorate the room.

Emily says, SPEAKING OF EXPERIMENTS…

She stands behind a table between two girls.

She says, WELCOME TO MY LAB!

Emily and the girls put on lab coats.

She narrates, BUT FIRST SAFETY.

The three girls put on disposable gloves and safety glasses.

Emily says, I EVEN HAVE
MY ASSISTANT AND MY TWO FRIENDS,
MEGAN AND MAËVA.

The friends are joined by a woman with long blond hair and glasses.

Emily says, I WANNA SHOW HOW FUN SCIENCE IS.

She and her friends pop vapor bubbles.

[Popping]

Emily says, WE'RE DOING THE BUBBLE
VAPOR EXPERIMENT.
ALL WE NEED IS SOME
FOOD COLORING, SOME WATER,
SOME SOAP, SOME DRY ICE
AND SOME TONGS.

She points to each item that is on a table. Maëva adds drops of food coloring to liquid in an Erlenmeyer flask. Emily mixes the colouring in. She holds pieces of dry ice with a pair of tongs.

The blond haired woman says, HERE WE GO.

Emily says, HERE WE GO!

She drops the dry ice in the flask. The liquid bubbles and releases a bubbly vapor from the flask.

The girls say, WOAH!

Maëva says, MY PLAN WORKED!

Megan adds more dry ice to the flask, creating more vapor.

Emily says, WHOO!

Maëva says, THIS IS FUN.

Emily picks up some of the bubbles with her tongs.

She asks, CAN WE TOUCH IT?

The blond haired woman says, YEAH. YOU CAN TOUCH IT.

Emily and Maëva grab handfuls of the bubbles.

Emily says, WHOA!
IT'S SO NICE!

Maëva says, WOAH, IT’S SO COLD.

Emily says, WHOA.

The three friends play with the bubbly vapor. Sunny appears with stars as eyes.

Emily narrates, I CAN'T WAIT
TO BE A SCIENCE TEACHER.

She pops bubbles between her hands.

[Cheerful music plays]

Sunny bursts out of a gift box and blows a party horn. Text reads, Sunny’s Surprise! In the science lab, Emily’s mom sits beside Emily with a tablet.

She says, EMILY,
I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU.
BECAUSE YOU LOVE SCIENCE SO MUCH
AND WANT TO TEACH IT SOMEDAY,
THERE'S A SPECIAL
SOMEONE THAT WANTED TO
SAY A FEW THINGS ABOUT THIS
SUBJECT TO YOU.

Emily plays a video on the tablet of a man with short black hair and glasses.

The man says, HEY, EMILY,
I’M GREG FRANKSON.
I’M A TEACHER, AUTHOR, AND A SPOKEN
WORD ARTIST.
I'VE COME TO LEARN
THAT YOU WANT TO BE A TEACHER,
AND THAT'S FANTASTIC.

Emily smiles.

Greg continues, YOU REALLY GET TO HELP PEOPLE
TO LEARN,
AND YOU CAN OPEN UP THE WORLD
TO THEM AND ENCOURAGE THEM
TO GO FOR THEIR DREAMS.
DO THAT THING
THAT YOU REALLY LOVE TO DO,
AND DON'T LET ANYONE EVER TELL
YOU THAT IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
AND ALL THE
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
THAT YOU'RE INVOLVED
IN, LIKE GIRL GUIDES,
I HAVE NO DOUBT IN MY MIND
THAT YOU'RE
GOING TO BE A GREAT TEACHER.

Emily grins.

[Emily giggling]

Emily says, THANK
YOU FOR THE ENCOURAGING WORDS,
AND I'LL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW
MY DREAMS OF BEING A TEACHER.

[Soft music plays]

On the staircase of her house, Emily says, THANK YOU FOR HANGING OUT
WITH ME AND MY GHANAIAN FAMILY.
I HOPE YOU HAD FUN LEARNING
ABOUT THE GHANAIAN CULTURE.
