Outdoors, Owen says, HI, MY NAME IS OWEN, I’M 9 YEARS
AND THIS IS MY FAMILY.

He turns toward a man, woman and a young boy and girl standing behind him. Owen’s family members wave.

Owen says, MY FAMILY'S FROM RWANDA,
BUT I LIVE IN SAINT-JEAN-SUR

He follows his family toward a trail.

He plays on a park play set with his siblings. An “Owen Cam” shows Owen going down a slide. Owen’s family leaves the park. On a living room couch, Owen plays with a globe ball. He points to a spot on the globe.

Sunny appears and looks at the paintings. Stars replace Sunny’s eyes. Elsewhere in the bedroom, Owen stands beside a collection of small toy cars.

Owen says, THIS IS MY CAR COLLECTION.

He takes out a black, gold and blue toy car.

He says, AND THIS ONE
IS MY FAVORITE ONE.

Owen stands beneath ribbons hanging from a picture.

He says, I WON THESE FROM CROSS COUNTRY.

An animated person runs past the ribbons. Owen sits beside jerseys on the lower bunk bed.

He says, THESE ARE MY SOCCER JERSEYS,
AND THIS ONE IS IN THE F.C.

Owen looks at a teddy bear wearing a jersey that reads, Owen.

Sunny appears, winks, and gives a thumbs up. Outside, Owen plays soccer.

He narrates, I HAVE BEEN
PLAYING FOR FOUR YEARS NOW.

LET ME SHOW YOU.

Owen’s “Owen Cam” shows him kicking the soccer ball.

He kicks the ball into the a soccer net.

[Cheering]

An animated person holds a Rwandan and Canadian flag.

Owen says, GOAAAAL!

Sunny appears and puts on a crown. At home in the kitchen, Owen stands beside his mom. Different ingredients are on the island counter top in front of them.

Owen says, LET'S MAKE SOME RWANDAN MANDAZI,
ARE THE BEST DONUTS EVER.
THE INGREDIENTS
ARE PRETTY SIMPLE.

He points to the ingredients as he lists them.

He says, FLOUR, SUGAR AND EGGS.
OIL, VANILLA EXTRACT, LEMON EXTRACT.
VANILLA SUGAR, BAKING POWDER AND MILK.

Owen and his mom add the ingredients to a bowl.

Owen narrates, THEN ADD ALL THE INGREDIENTS
IN BOWL
AND MIX AND VOILA.

Owen and his mom add four eggs to a bowl with the other ingredients. Owen adds the milk, then mixes the ingredients together with his hands.

He says, I LIKE BAKING THESE WITH MY MOM.

His mom smiles. Sunny appears, smelling the ingredients, and licks their lips.

Giggling, Owen says, IT'S GOOEY AND STICKY.

He mixes the ingredients into a sticky dough. At the oven, his mom mixes the ingredients with her hand.

Owen says, MY MOM'S GOING TO DO IT
BECAUSE THE OIL IS TOO HOT.

His mom drops balls of dough into a pot of hot oil.

[Sizzling]

Owen says, SHE'S GOING TO PUT THE DONUTS
IN THE OIL.

He watches the donuts fry.

He says, BE CAREFUL, IT'S HOT.

Owen’s mom scoops the fried donuts out of the oil onto a dish lined with paper towel. Sunny appears and licks their lips. At the island, Owen holds one of the donuts.

He says, THIS IS MANDAZI
AND PEOPLE EAT IT
WITH COFFEE AND TEA.

Owen says, BUT I LIKE IT WITH JUICE
AND TO DIP IT IN CHOCOLATE.

He dips his Mandazi in chocolate and takes a bite.

He says, MMM!

Sunny appears and winks. Owen stands in front of a couch wearing the outfit that includes a skirt and straps across his bare chest. He wears a matching choker necklace with strings of beads hanging from it.

He says, THIS IS MY OUTFIT.

The straps that make an X across his chest are black and white. Owen wears a headband with tall white feathers.

Owen explains, AND THIS IS IBITAKO.
THE NECKLESS.

His skirt is wrapped around his waist. It has a blue symbol and hangs past his knees.

Owen explains, THIS IS INKINDI
AND UMUSHANANA.

He also holds a small black and white shield and a wooden spear.

Owen continues, THE DANCER WEARS A WRAPPED SKIRT
WITHOUT A SHIRT
AND STRAPS THAT
CROSS OVER THE CHEST.
JUST LIKE ME.

On his ankles, he wears bells.

Owen says, THIS A AMAYUGI.

He shakes the bells.

[Bells ringing]

Owen sits on the floor with a man who has short black hair. They both hold matching long, wooden string instruments.

Owen says, THIS MY INSTRUCTOR, DEO.

Deo waves and says, HI!

Owen says, WE'RE HERE TO LEARN
MORE ABOUT THE INANGA.
IT'S A UNIQUE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.

He plucks one of the many strings on the Inanga.

Owen narrates, IN THE PAST,
THE INANGA WAS PLAYED
BY A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN.
TODAY EVERYONE CAN PLAY IT,
I LIKE IT BECAUSE IT'S RELAXING.

Deo nods while Owen plays the Inanga.

Owen says, DEO?

Deo says, YES?

Owen asks, CAN YOU PLAY MUSIC
WHILE I'M DANCING.

Deo says, OF COURSE.

Elsewhere in the house, Deo plays the Inanga. Owen dances with his shield and spear.

Owen narrates, I’M DOING THE GUHAMIRIZA DANCE.
IT'S A POPULAR TRADITIONAL
RWANDAN DANCE
WITH MILITARY ROOTS.

He stomps his feet while he dances.

[Bells ringing]

The “Owen Cam” shows Owen smiling while he dances. Owen drops to one knee as Deo finishes singing. Owen then stands in front of Deo.
